Kim Braly has officially entered the putter shaft business, everyone.  I introduce you to the KBS CT Tour putter shaft.  KBS designed this stepless putter shaft to have a stiffer structure throughout the shaft and specifically in the tip to provide more stability.  Available in straight, single bend, and double bend with multiple finish options, golfers everywhere can get that smooth feel and performance KBS is known for but in a putter shaft.

Normally I’d remove this section for a simple steel shaft, but there are OPTIONS for the KBS CT Tour putter shaft.  Knowing golfers like our putters to have sweet looks, KBS made the CT Tour available in chrome and brushed chrome.  Oh, you want a black shaft like the guys on Tour? Good news, KBS also offers the CT Tour in matte black and a more polished black PVD.  Well done, KBS. Thank you for bringing some putter shaft color options to retail!

How Does it Feel?

The feel portion of the KBS CT Tour putter shaft is the most important part of the review.  I’m going to shoot you straight though. You aren’t going to use this shaft and immediately go, “wow, this has totally revolutionized putting as we know it!” BUT, the CT Tour is easily the best steel putter shaft on the market in my opinion.  First, the general profile of the CT Tour is much firmer, especially in the tip.  Given you don’t really flex a putter shaft, you may wonder why this is important. The firmer profile makes the putter feel easier to control and gave me better head awareness.  Generally speaking, the shaft being more stout made me feel much more in control of my putting stroke.

One point I want to make is more of a general observation.  Most putters I’ve had over the years have had the typical steel shaft you all know and love.  Given steel putter shafts are usually just a piece of steel to join your hands to the putter head, very little goes into their design…and it shows.  The feel will be inconsistent whether it’s weight, balance, or bend. What I appreciate most about the CT Tour is that the feel is very consistent with good balance and response.  Don’t undervalue these traits. Consistent feel and better control ultimately equals more putts.

On-Course Performance

KBS says the CT Tour is the first shaft to “incorporate KBS Golf Shaft Technology into your game on the green.”  To me this means it has the same smooth profile and feedback that the KBS Tour iron shaft is known for. This will be subjective to the individual, but I do believe this to be the case with the CT Tour putter shaft.  It’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, but the CT Tour makes the putter feel notably better than the steel shafts I’m used to. With that better balance and head awareness I mentioned earlier, I had much better control and was more consistent with my putts.

Mind you, the CT Tour shaft is largely designed to make you a better putter due to a much improved feel.  The design isn’t to provide different balance points for more stability or take out the yips. It’s purely to make the putter feel better and more reliable for better control.

Final Thoughts

I appreciate the introduction of the KBS CT Tour putter shaft to the market.  While I think there’s certainly a place for all these new innovative multi-material putter shafts, there’s no reason we don’t deserve a quality steel shaft for our putters.  As the narrative goes, I use my putter in a round more than any other club in the bag. Why wouldn’t I want the same quality in a putter shaft that I demand in the rest of my bag?  With the KBS CT Tour, I feel like I have that. The feel is spot on and I find the shaft to be flat out more reliable than any other steel putter shaft.

Much difference between this and just using a ctaper xflex in your putter?

Haven’t tried it so couldn’t tell you, but given this one is tuned for actually being in a putter, I would assume it would be better.

Do you know whether the .370 tip will fit a Cameron Studio Select No1? The guy who is going to install the shaft says it will, but the web site says their shafts don’t fit Cameron putters. Thanks for your review of the putter shaft.

It will not fit. He would likely bore out the hosel to make it fit accordingly. I’d advise against it unless you’re never going to sell the putter.

Great shafts but poor Customer Service. I have purchased & installed north of 10 KBS putter shafts. Recently I purchased both limited edition White & OD green putter shafts thinking this was a great concept, unfortunately it was poorly executed. First issue: Factory Shaft band placement. The band on both is really high on the shaft as if it is an iron shaft. When trimming this to play 35” in a Scotty Cameron the shaft band is half covered by the grip. This result is even with tip & butt trimming. If you try to just butt trim it will completely cover the band. Second issue: If you are expecting the OD green to show up as OD green, you will be very disappointed. Color is not even close! Probably 10 shades off, much lighter. I contacted Customer Service to report the issued, after one email they essentially vanished. Don’t bother leaving an honest review of their product on their website. It is censored & will remain in approval limbo. Kim would be proud.

Every shaft I’ve ever bought straight from KBS came with the shaft label having to be applied to the shaft after building. Did you buy the shaft straight from them? And what color is OD green supposed to be?

I’ve purchased many, many KBS shafts…yes they all had shaft bands included for the purchaser to affix. However, the putter shaft in question just arrived and DOES have the band pre-installed and YES, it is WAY HIGH UP TOWARDS THE but and will certajnly be covered by the grip on install !!!!

Hi Bill. How does this shaft compare to the FST Stepless? FST is the stock shaft in all evnroll putters. I have an evnroll er1.2 and am considering this shaft but I hear that FST makes shafts for KBS so maybe there is some similarity?

It has a more consistent feel and is more rigid. Much better in my opinion.

Will the .355 tip fit in a Scotty Cameron Newport 2? Thanks!

I think it’s supposed to, but I can’t definitively say yes. I know Cameron’s use a weird tip size/shape.

I’m not sure what tip size the Ardmore takes, but I think the CT Tour is only available in .370 in double bend.

Spotted: KBS GPS, CT Tour putter shafts

Kim Braly-founded KBS has been a leader in golf shafts for 15 years. They are well known for iron and wedge shafts but make shafts for your entire bag, including the putter.

The CT Tour putter shafts have been very popular over the years and offer more stability and a stiffer feel in a steel putter shaft.

This week at the Zurich Classic, we spotted a few of the new KBS Tour GPS (Graphite Putter Shaft) graphite putter shafts. The GPS shaft is made from premium composite materials, offering added stability and reduced deflection for more accuracy on longer putts. Getting the ball started on the right line is key and the GPS offers reduced face rotation when the putt is struck on the heel and toe of the putter.

KBS is offering the KBS in a 120g weight and a few color options.

KBS CT Tour Putter shafts were also spotted in a couple of new multi-color finishes with some custom shaft labels. The KBS CT Tour is a steel shaft designed with added stability and a little bit of a stiffer feel.

TaylorMade today unveiled the fourth iteration of its high-toe-peaked Hi-Toe wedges, appropriately named Hi-Toe 4.

“Hi-Toe wedges are a great option for any player who gains confidence from a wedge with a larger face and full-face grooves to ensure maximum spin regardless of where you strike it on the face,” said Matt Bovee, Global Category Director – Irons and Wedges at TaylorMade. “Now with Spin Tread Raw face technology and a new array of grinds, the Hi-Toe 4 has more performance and versatility than ever before.”

• Larger toe mass pad: Increased in size from Hi-Toe 3, the larger pad makes the Hi-Toe 4 more forgiving.

All Terrain grinds

TaylorMade is offering Hi-Toe 4 wedges in five machine-milled “All Terrain grinds,” which are design to span the entire spectrum of playing conditions.

TaylorMade’s description of each grind below.

All Terrain Standard Grind (ATS): “The most versatile and all-encompassing of the Hi-Toe 4 grinds is the ATS. It’s suitable for players that prefer a neutral face angle at address, fits all swing types, and can be used in a wide variety of playing conditions. Its increased four-way camber allows for liberal face manipulation and gives golfers plenty of options to hit different shots with both an open and closed clubface. The ATS grind is available in the full menu of lofts ranging from 50° to 60°.”

All Terrain Versatility Grind (ATV): “Golfers with shallow angles of attack or that play off tight, firm turf are going to benefit from this asymmetric bounce and concave sole. This multifunctional design and increased effective bounce in the open face position allow for plenty of face manipulation and shot versatility. The ATV grind comes in lofts of 56°, 58° and 60°.”

All Terrain XTRA Grind (ATX): “The ATX grind is a new grind that uses three independent sole surfaces to create a multifunctional, wider sole that plays with mid-range bounce. The leading edge prevents digging while the midsole ensures stability, and the aggressive trailing edge fosters a quick exit from the turf. Loft options in the ATX grind are 56°, 58°and 60°.”

All Terrain C Grind (ATC): “The ATC grind offers our lowest bounce option with its unique, reverse C-sole design. Noticeable heel and toe relief make this grind a trusted choice for shallow players and firm conditions. The ATC grind is available in both 58° and 60° lofts.”

All Terrain Wide Grind (ATW): “Featuring the widest sole and the most forgiving profile in the Hi-Toe 4 family, the ATW grind is designed to inspire ultimate confidence for golfers that seek clean, consistent contact. Which KBS putter shaft best suits your game?

The super stable graphite KBS GPS putter shaft boosts the MOI of putters by upping stability over steel alternatives. But which of the brands four putter shaft options best suits you?

We’ve done a lot of testing over the last 18 months on driver and iron shafts and the theme trending through most is upping MOI through increased shaft stability. Shaft engineers have have now learned creating super stable tip sections makes it possible to better control how clubfaces deflect at impact. A feature which effectively narrows dispersion on off centre strikes, and the theory works just as well for putters as it does irons and drivers.

Multi-material stability putter shafts have been used in some of the best putters on the market for a while now, 2023 is the year KBS joins the party. Here’s a look at the new graphite KBS GPS putter shaft and the brands three steel putter shaft models, to highlight which best suits your game.  

The GPS (Graphite Putter Shaft)

KBS are most well-known for creating brilliant steel iron shafts. Over recent years though the brand has ventured deeper and deeper into the graphite shaft market. The brand already creates some brilliant graphite wood and iron shafts. So the next logical step had to be a graphite putter shaft that offered golfers tangible gains in feel and stability.

By discovering that when carbon fiber shafts are wrapped correctly, with the correct premium materials in the right areas of the shaft, engineers have realized graphite shafts can better resist twist than steel. With this style of construction, the new GPS (Graphite Putter Shaft) improves the consistency of off-center hits. It’s an idea capable of shaving shots from your scorecard and dramatically cutting your three-putt percentage.

The GPS is already cutting through on tour too. It was in the bag of DP World Tour winner Tom McKibbin in June 2023, pretty much immediately after it launched. If your perception of graphite shafts is loose, flexible, and unstable there couldn’t be a better time to consign that sort of thinking to the past.

Expect the GPS to be stiff without adding weight. To get the same level of anti-twist performance from a steel shaft it would have to be considerably heavier. We really like how KBS liken the difference between their steel putter shafts and the GPS to their TGI and PGI graphite irons shafts. Where the TGI ( Tour Graphite Iron shaft ) is firm with a stout fast feel off the face, and the PGI ( Players Graphite Iron shaft ) has much more of a melting feel through impact, just like the GPS putter shaft. The feel is so good a bunch of pros have already commented on the model being the best-felling putter shaft they’ve ever tried.    

In our book, if you’re looking for the ultimate putter fitting, a stability shaft has to be just as much part of your thinking as the right head, grip, and weight set-up. And if we’re talking stability shafts they don’t come much better than the KBS GPS.

The One-Step

The KBS One-Step launched when the whole conversation around stability putter shafts first came to the table. The model has straight side walls and one big step (hence the name) towards the tip section. This steel model is designed to improve stability and is especially good at keeping you on the straight and narrow when head weights increase.

The model outperforms the brand’s other steel putter shafts in terms of stability, but you will need to accept it’s unconventional and pronounced single-step look. A feature that some players will find distracting. Former world #1 Lydia Ko used this shaft for some time, so it comes with good pedigree and form.

We like how the model’s long parallel tip section allows club makers to dial in a firmer or softer feel. And how the model is designed to reduce vibration whilst transmitting a pure amplified feel to the hands.

The CT-Tour

RRP: $34.95 – $54.95 (depending on finish)

Weight: 124g

The KBS C-Taper iron shaft is well known for feeling incredibly stout and hardwork. The CT-Tour putter shaft aims to replicate that firm, anti-loose feel within the putting arena. The CT-Tour is stepless, with a constant taper design and it has appeared as a stock shaft within the TaylorMade Spider putter family.

Like the One-Step, the model is great at coping with heavier head weights but, unlike the One-Step, there’s no unconventional One-Step design halfway down the shaft. Both Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson have posted some of their best putting numbers ever using this popular shaft. The model also features in Cobra’s 3D Printed and Vintage putter models.

An excellent choice to nudge up the MOI of your putter. Particularly if you don’t want to pay more to buy into the latest trend of stability graphite putter shafts, or struggle to accept the KBS One-Step. If a very smooth feel is your number one goal from a steel putter shaft the KBS Tour putter might well be a better option.

The Tour iron shaft is the mothership of every shaft created by KBS. All other models produced by the company no matter whether they’re for a driver, hybrid or wedge are worked off the original Tour. With each being tuned to offer differences in ball flight or feel. It should come as no surprise then this was the brands first ever putter shaft.

Like the CT-Tour the Tour has been a stock shaft for TaylorMade putters, KBS also regularly make it for Evnroll , Bettinardi and Axis 1 putters too. Golfers should expect a stiff stable structure, with good energy transfer but ultimately a more smooth and responsive feel.

A great option if the goal of your next putter fitting is ultimate feel rather than upping stability performance to help with consistency.

How can stepped and stepless putter shafts feel different?

We control feel by increasing and reducing the outside diameters of each shaft, plus how much they weigh. The C-Taper iron shaft is firm, lower launching and lower spinning, which we control from the outside diameters and wall thickness.

Very few people used to take putter head weight into consideration when choosing a putter shaft, but we’re now creating the perfect complement to any head weight with our family of various shafts. You’d be amazed at how different a 130g CT-Tour putter shaft feels compared to a 105g version of the same shaft.

How much has changed in putter shaft design over the last decade?

All KBS shafts are designed from the butt end to the tip to transfer energy efficiently and give a great feel. It’s why KBS are well known for producing great feeling shafts. We started out with the Tour putter shaft 10+ years ago, it was a simple version of the original iron shaft, but over time putter head weights have increased.

And if there’s more weight on the end, the shaft needs to be more stable to generate a similar feel and stability performance. We’ve learned over time and adapted our putter shafts to suit the 350g+ head weight putters that golfers are now much more regularly using. We’re jumping into the weight space which has previously been ignored.

When steel KBS putter shafts have been so popular with some of the very best players in the world how do you go about introducing them to a new concept like the graphite GPS?   

We’ve seen massive success on tour with the CT-Tour putter shaft over the last five years, so we designed the new GPS in the context of weight around it. The secret was to create feel and stability in a 120g graphite shaft that felt amazing.

I liken it to our TGI (Tour Graphite Iron shaft) and PGI (Players’ Graphite Iron shaft) graphite iron shafts. Where the TGI feels quick and shots fly off the face fast (that’s our successful CT-Tour putter shaft), the PGI has more of a melting feel through impact, so golfers can feel shots compress off the face, like the GPS putter shaft.

It’s early days but more and more tour players are trying the GPS as they look to experiment and find form. Tommy Fleetwood already has one that he’s testing right now.

KBS Tour FST Shaft Review – Specs, Flex Weight

Everyone wants to be able to game the same shafts they see the pros use.

That’s why a lot of players tend to gravitate towards KBS shafts. KBS is one of the leading shaft manufacturers in the world because their shafts are tour-proven.

They are known for affording the player maximum control and accuracy.

But let’s face it. Not all of us swing our irons like the pros. You have to really be aware of the type of player you are if you want to lower your score.

To that end, KBS does make shafts for us mortals. Case in point: the KBS Tour FST shaft.

Today we will be taking a look at the KBS Tour FST and letting you know who should be gaming it.

KBS Tour FST Shaft Overview

The whole point of the KBS Tour FST shaft is to help slower swingers transfer maximum energy from their swing to the ball.

The KBS Tour FST shaft comes in both relatively light and heavyweight versions so any kind of player should be able to find the right fit.

We really liked the looks of the KBS Tour FST shaft. It distinguishes itself with a black nickel finish which to us, looks more like gunmetal.

It still bears the classic “KBS” lettering in red and black in a block in the middle of the shaft.

So right away, you can tell that this is a KBS shaft; but you can also tell that there is something different about it.

The KBS Tour FST is also a low torque shaft. Despite weight savings in the steps, the KBS Tour FST resists twisting and warping very well.

So you still get that smooth, stable KBS feel from a more accessible steel iron shaft. When we tested the KBS Tour FST, we noticed very little activity.

However, the reaction that was present revealed itself in the mid/low section of the shaft.

If you are not a fan of whippy shafts and need more stability as you load up on the shaft, the  KBS Tour FST is certainly worth a look.

Why is the KBS Tour FST So Popular?

We can think of a few reasons why this shaft is a hit among amateur players but for us, the KBS Tour FST was a hit because it offers classic KBS feel.

While it can be said that the KBS Tour FST is a stout shaft, it never feels boardy. Even in the stiffest flex, you get a smooth transition that you feel you can work with.

How Does the KBS Tour FST Shaft Perform?

It’s odd, but we would say that the KBS Tour FST shaft feels active without actually being active.

What we mean is that when we tested it, we noticed that it felt light in the hands and while it doesn’t bend much, you feel like all of your swing energy is getting through to the ball.

This shaft just sort of begs to be swung.

The KBS Tour FST naturally produces a mid launch window and it’s very easy to get a beautiful baby draw out of it.

It was producing spin rates just under the 7,000 RPM threshold with our 7-iron so the spin is relatively low.

We’re not going to lie, you still need a moderate swing speed in order to get optimal distance from this shaft. We’re talking at least 85 MPH with your 7-iron.

But if you can manage that, the KBS Tour FST will reward you with improved accuracy, smooth feel and a considerable distance boost.

For instance, our testers were averaging a distance of 156.1 yards (7-iron) after three swings with the KBS Tour FST.

The KBS Tour FST also helped us thread the needle beautifully on narrow fairways and allowed us to work the ball masterfully around the pin.

KBS Tour FST Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

For moderate swing speed players (85 – 90 MPH) the regular or stiff flex would likely work well.

For faster swingers (90+ MPH) we would recommend the extra stiff flex.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

If you have a moderate tempo, the 110g version may work.

The 120g and 130g versions should be reserved for fast swingers with aggressive tempos.

The KBS Tour FST is a good shaft because it allows players of varying tempos to really load up without losing any accuracy or stability.

They should fit. It should be a standard putter shaft size

Can you tell me if this shaft will fit a Nickent Prophecy tour series 4? The current shaft is 34”- can the CT Tour Double Bend be cut down? If not can you recommend a shaft?

Can you find out the hosel/tip size of the putter head? If it's 0.370" then it will fit.

I have an old Yes! Tracy putter with a double bend shaft. Would KBS CT Tour double bend shaft fit my putter? The shaft looks like it goes directly into the head. Thanks!

As long as you select the correct tip size (either 0.355" or 0.370") for that putter head, it will fit.

Will this putter tip fit my Ping Sigma Fetch?

Ping Sigma putters usually take 0.355" tip shaft size - so as long as you select that tip size, it should fit.

What is the offset in this shaft? Also will it fit a 2015 Golo?

This is a half shaft offset.

Ordered KBS CT Tour Double-Bend for Odyssey Toulon Chicago putter. Hosel diameter was correct as advertised and assembled nicely with some glass shafting beads. However, the double-bend was not identical to the original Odyssey shaft and created terrible loft, lie, and face angles in multiple offset alignments (using digital Mitchell machine). Will be a great club after all, but beware installation will likely require significant bending to achieve reasonable loft and lie. Ex: Initial install at standard loft resulted in 63 lie angle.

The finish on this shaft fits my hydro blast TM putter. Stock stepped shaft looked like crap.

I just saw this short write-up on the forthcoming putter shaft offerings from KBS:

Unfortunately there was little substantive info provided. Anybody have any details about the technology in these shafts, how they compare to other putter shafts, etc.? I hope the Golf WRX team at the PGA Merch Show get some pictures of these, too.

It might finally be possible to buy a black single bend putter shaft what a day. Also if I remember correctly these shafts are supposed to be stiffer and produce less flex and vibrations. Similar to the new callaway and stability shafts.

I love the look of them.

I wonder how they will compare in price to the stability shafts.

Thanks for posting the link. I will be eager to hear any reviews others might have on these, too, especially as compared to the graphite putter shafts on the market.

Price point is aggressive! Yikes!

Only .370...wonder how different it is than putting a C-Taper in a putter. I've done it before but sold the putter before I really gave it a shot.

So what's the scoop on these? Looks like they are stiff with a stiff tip. Similar to other recent "stable" putter shafts.

Really disappointed in the .370 tip size. I was pretty excited for these to come around, but I'm not sure that I own any putters that will fit. Hopefully more options coming down the line.

I believe these are a uniform, thicker wall throughout design..a very stiff part.

What putters are still .355? Byron? Older Scottys? Maybe some PINGs?

Most Scottys with a plumbers neck are 0.355 are'nt they? My Button Back Newport 2 screams for a black shaft but I think its 0.355 on that one.

Every plumbers neck Scotty I have resifted has used a .355. Same with Byron, Bettinardi, Tyson Lamb, Ping.

Hopefully we see additional sizes coming out, because it seems as if a large chunk of the putter world has been left out on this one. Would love to see a flare tip as well for my flow necks.

All Scotty putters that I am aware of , using a single bend shaft , use a .355"

made for / preprioritory tip shaft. The one exception being the Studio Design

#5 . Which used a ridiculous small and hard to find .285" tip .

I have recently put one in my TM Spider. The shaft is entirely reinforced from the butt to the tip. It is MUCH more stable. You can feel the stiffness of the shaft, but with that said I noticed very little decrease in overall feel. I was expecting it to lose all feel but it is actually a very nice feeling shaft. Very satisfied with it.

I have one but mostly because of it being matt black. It is a little stuffer when bending it by hand vs the usual TT shaft. Putting with it there isn’t much difference in feel.

I also have a stability shaft with the same hosel and grip that I can put on the same putter head (machine M1). That shaft is a whole different feel and is awesome.

Anyone tipping these yet?

Why would you tip it? They are already really stiff.

I would really like to know this as well. I'm having a 33" putter built with a longish flow neck and I have the KBS shaft to put in it. My problem is with that length of putter if I just install the shaft and then butt trim to length my grip will hang all the way down into where the shaft starts to taper down. A lot of guys talk about tip trimming .370 putter shafts several inches with no problem but if I take an inch or two out of this already very stiff shaft is it going to seriously effect the feel?

Edit to add: I already called KBS and didn't gain much there.. I guess with the shaft being so new and probably not a lot of them out there yet he didn't have much info for me.

Might have to throw one in my Method001 to match my CT95's coming in.

The putter shaft has been out for years. They are just expanding the line with more colors and sizes/bends.

They dont seem to be in a hurry to make them in .355. I sent an email a month ago, they have no time frame on when the .355s will be ready.
