Had an incredible time in our escape campervan. It has been the stand out p art of our trip of the US, offering flexibility, fun and something different. I was wary of driving the van as I am used to driving a much smaller vehicle on the other side of road! But Emmanuel at the San Fransisco branch was so friendly and took plenty of time to talk through the van and its features, put us at ease and encourage us to have some great adventures. Pick up and drop off were smooth with no issues regarding trying to get money out of us etc. Like the idea of the swap cupboard for people to leave leftover food and toiletries. Vans are pretty old and show some signs of wear but fully functioning and we had no issues while on the road. Cant wait till we can do this again! ... Read More

Would rent again! My husband and I picked up in Las Vegas and did a week lo ng trip throughout Utah in one of the Mavericks. The Maverick vans are old and we had some small issues with the van throughout the trip, but the Las Vegas team was responsive and took care of us when we got back. When we rent again we'll splurge for one of the newer vehicles. ... Read More

(Translated by Google) We had a great time. The staff are very VERY friendl y and explain everything in detail. The van was great, the bed in the van very comfortable and very easy to set up. The small kitchen in the back had everything you need (fridge, cooker, sink) you can book the cooking set, but I have no idea what it contains because we didn't book it. The curtains in the van darken the interior very well for sleeping. We really enjoyed the time and would definitely do it again. But then for a longer period of time. Oh my gosh, we had the BEST time with our campervan! I think the layout is just great! Husband and wife. Bed was great. Heads up that the depot is in Oakland, so really not near SFO. We were very fortunate to have friends who picked us up from the "real" airport and took us over to the depot. Important things to bring: whisk broom, cigarette to USB charger, flashlight/lantern, lightweight sleeping bag. Our bedding kit had a comforter. So lovely and snuggy in Yosemite, but too hot for coastal beach areas. I would absolutely ! rent from this company again!! ... Read More

(Translated by Google) We had a great time with our Maverick campervan. Bef ore departure and for questions, always a very fast response from the service center via email, very nice. Great service at Escape Campervans LA, friendly and helpful staff. We had no problems with the campervan. The solar panel worked well, so no problems during the day or while driving. (Original) We hebben een super tijd met onze Maverick campervan gehad. We currently have 5 models in our fleet:

  • Big Sur : Ford T-350
  • Mavericks : Ford E150

Read about our campervan packing tips .

How will I get by without a bathroom in the campervan?

While our Big Sur , Mavericks , and Santa Cruz models don’t have bathrooms, our renters do just fine using campground facilities and public restrooms, and practicing Leave No Trace principles when dispersed camping. It is a matter of your own comfort level, but the freedom that campervan travel gives you compared to RVs is worth it for many!

How many people can travel in the camper with me?

  • Big Sur : Seats 5, sleeps up to 5 (2-3 in queen bed, 2 in rooftop sleeper if added).
  • Mavericks : Seats 5, sleeps up to 5 (2-3 in queen bed, 2 in rooftop sleeper if added).

  • Jeep Camper :  Seats up to 5 (designed for 2) and sleeps 2 (rooftop sleeper).

Seating is according to how many seat belts are available in each vehicle. You can always add the rooftop sleeper (Big Sur and Mavericks only, standard on Jeep Camper) or bring along our ground tent accessory to sleep more people. Bedding kits are available for rent to accommodate the number of people in your party.

Can I buy the van?

We occasionally sell our more “experienced” campervans—fit out, paint job, and all! Experience RV Camping

Rent an rv and come camping.

Perhaps you’ve always wanted to try staying in an RV or you’d like to experience Campland and don’t own an RV. Did you know you can rent an RV or travel trailer from a local company? Campland does not rent RVs. Below is a list of local rental companies.

Many RV rental companies will deliver the RV, travel trailer, or motorhome for you at your reserved site including taking care of the hook-ups. They will also pick up the RV from the site at the end of your stay. Campland on the Bay does not rent RVs on-site and has no affiliation with or responsibility for the RV rental companies or their RVs.

We love tent campers too, so if you have a tent, please consider that.

Here are some local RV rental companies :

(listed in alphabetical order)

ALBERTS RV RENTALS – 858-598-5829 [email protected]

CAMP ‘N STYLE RV RENTALS – 877-965-RENT

It is important to know the size and length of the RV, travel trailer or motorhome you are planning to rent when you make the campsite reservation . In the summer, we have very high occupancy and you must have a campsite reserved in order for the RV or travel trailer to be used at our resort.

We regret to inform our valued guests that Campland on the Bay is not accepting delivery of any trailers or motorhomes from Trailer Time Rentals to our resort. Campland will continue to accept Travel Time Rentals, a trusted local RV rental company.

We recommend that guests consider other options, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

RV Rentals Delivered and Setup at Your Campsite (Cost and Expert Tips)

NOTE*** The content on this page may contain affiliate links, we may make a commission. And, as an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.   More information: disclosure page .

Do you want to go glamping in an RV but want the experience to be as stress-free as possible?   An RV offers the comfort of home but driving and setting it up can be a steep learning curve. Plus, towing a travel trailer can be tricky and it’s easy to damage your own vehicle and the camper.  If you don’t want to drive an RV or tow a travel trailer, having an RV delivered and set up at your campsite is an excellent option!

We rent out our travel trailer and have delivered it for our renters.  In addition, we are part of groups with thousands of RV owners who rent out their rigs.  I’ll tell you about how much it will cost to have an RV delivered.  Then, make sure to read the list of questions you must ask before having a camper delivered.   After helping my own renters and reading through all the issues of other RV owners, I want to help you avoid any expensive problems that could ruin your vacation.

Can you have an RV delivered to a campsite?

An RV can be delivered and set up at a campsite for $50 to $200.  The delivery fee generally includes a flat fee plus an additional per-mile cost. For example, RV delivery may cost between $50 to  $150 for the first 50 to 100 miles. Some companies will deliver for an additional $1 to $3 per mile after the flat fee.

Why Have an RV Delivered and Setup at a Campsite

I80 Lakeside Campground North Platte Nebraska campsite on the lake

When you arrive at your campsite you can enjoy camping right away without all the work of setting up the RV.  If you have a camper delivered, the owner will set everything up for camping. They will hook up the connections to electricity, water, and sewer. You will not have to make any electrical box connections or deal with the yucky sewer hoses.

In addition, the camper will be level and stable for you. The owner will lower the stabilizing jacks and make sure the camper is completely level. To a newbie, this may not seem like a big deal, but if your camper is not level many accessories might not work properly.

You will still need to learn to run all of the necessary equipment in the camper. But don’t worry any owner who delivers already has this in the arrangement.  (More about this in the FAQ section below)

You will likely meet the owner at the campsite, with your new home already set up for you. They will then walk you through a tour and give you in-depth training on how to work all of the accessories and appliances that make having an RV so comfy. You will learn things like how to start the gas propane stove, turn on the TV, convert the dinette into a bed for extra sleeping, and work the toilet.

Some campgrounds may already have travel trailers set up on site.  You can simply call and reserve a camper. When you arrive everything will be set up and you’ll be glamping in no time.

Cost of Having an RV Delivered and Set-Up

An RV can be delivered and set up at a campsite for a flat fee plus an additional per-mile cost. For example, RV delivery may cost between $50 to  $150 for the first 50 to 100 miles. Some companies will deliver for an additional $1 to $3 per mile after the flat fee.

The cost to have an RV delivered and set up for you at your campsite will be between $50 and $300.

Here are examples of RVs that you can have delivered to a campground, the distance and the cost.

Have an RV delivered to Yosemite National Park

For example, you can have a Travel Trailer delivered and set up at Yosemite National Park for $100. This 25 foot Jayco travel trailer sleeps 7 and is only 25 feet long. With its short length, it can fit in the National Park campgrounds. The rental rate is only $115 a night plus fees and insurance. This is less than many hotels near the entrance of the park.

How to Have an RV Delivered to Your Campsite

Having an RV delivered to your campsite requires finding an RV near your destination that is deliverable. Many popular locations may have companies that deliver RVs. Our best recommendation is to find an RV on Outdoorsy that can be delivered.

Head over to the Outdoorsy website and you enter your destination. This will bring up a page with all the RVs available near your destination.

travel camp rentals

Then you can filter by RVs that you can have delivered. Choosing the “deliverable” filter will narrow down your search.

travel camp rentals

You can read through the different options and click on one that you are interested in. Once you click, you will see the option to deliver and you will get the cost of delivery.

travel camp rentals

Before jumping in and reserving an RV to be delivered at a campsite you will want to know some information from the owner. In addition to everything you should ask before renting an RV, It is important that you ask these questions before having a travel trailer delivered.

Additional resources- Read 11 Important Questions to Ask before Renting a Travel Trailer.

RVezy also offers delivery services. You can check the delivery filter to see which RVs can be delivered to your desired camp.

A screenshot of RVezy filter to see which RV's are available to be delivered

Important Questions to Ask Before Having an RV Delivered

What is the total camper delivery and set-up fee.

In general, owners will charge a base delivery and set up fee for up to a certain distance. For example, an owner may charge you $100 to deliver to a campsite within 50 miles. The fee should include both delivery and pick up. (Remember this is 2 round trips for the owner).  In addition, some owners will be willing to deliver even further for a per-mile fee. This fee ranges from $.50 per mile to $3 or more per mile.

Is Setting-up the RV Included in the Fee?

The whole point of having a travel trailer delivered and set up is so that you can be glamping in minutes. I suggest double-checking that the delivery fee also includes setting up the travel trailer.  The owner should level the rig, open up the slides, hook up the electrical, water, and sewer before you arrive.

Does the Delivery Fee Include Dumping and Flushing the Tanks?

After using a camper, the black and gray water tanks need to be dumped and cleaned.  You clean the black water tank by flushing it with clean water. If the camper is at a full hookup site, the tanks can be cleaned with a separate hose at the same water spigot. Otherwise, the trailer will need to be taken to the dump station and the tanks flushed.

I have seen some owners charge an additional fee for flushing the tanks even when they are picking up the trailer. Just make sure to ask if the fee includes this service or if this service is an additional cost.

Does the Campground Allow Rental RVs to be Delivered?

Due to insurance purposes, some campgrounds do not allow rental RVs to be delivered without the renter onsite. Don’t worry, the owner will frequently know the rules about local campgrounds. In order to have your rental RV at the campsite, you will need to meet the owner outside and be with the owner at check-in.  They will still park the RV and get everything set up for you. You will also get full training on operating and enjoying your rental.

Final Thoughts on Making Your Vacation Easier with an RV Delivery

Having an RV delivered and set up at a campsite is an excellent idea.   Many RVs are located within a delivery distance from some of the best national parks. You will not have to worry about driving, parking, or hooking everything up. In fact, some owners require that they deliver their rigs.

If you don’t want to worry about towing a trailer and setting up,  you can have a travel trailer delivered to a campsite.

Before renting an RV make sure to ask lots of questions. Some important questions, like insurance coverage or using the awning, could save you thousands of dollars and headaches. Read through all the resources we have for you

Moterra Campervan At Dusk in Joshua Tree National Park

We got a high roof for a week and traveled from California to Utah (and back). We are avid campers and love backcountry, so this was the best of both worlds. To be able to comfortably disperse camp/boondock was a true luxury. The van was so thoughtfully designed and even though we brought some of our own gear, we hardly had to use any of it since they truly think of everything. We only had to troubleshoot once on the trip, and the Moterra team was quick and responsive to help us out. Such a special trip, can’t wait for the next! – Rose Kang

Camping Picnic Table Lit At Night

We are so happy we chose to rent a camper van from Moterra! We had an excellent experience from time of booking, through the end of our trip. The staff was extremely responsive to my emails and the overview of the van upon pick up, was very helpful. We would absolutely recommend this company to anyone looking to take a camping vacation without having the pack all the gear. We can’t wait for our next Moterra adventure! – Kelsey Aarrestad

Pair of Moterra Sprinter Campervans on Bryce and Zion National Parks Road Trip

We rented three vans with two other couples to visit Bryce and Zion and it was so fun! Definitely recommend!

For our itinerary, we worked with Erin. She got us great campground reservations and helped us fill our trip with activities we were interested in, really helping us to make the most of every day. She suggested several things we never would have thought to do on our own. And, anytime we had a question that required some local knowledge, she always had a good answer for us.

Alex showed us how to use our vans. They are incredibly well thought out and we were amazed at all the comfort and convenience that are packed into them. They are almost as easy to drive as a car and we used them to the max. It was a little bit of a learning process but it was also great to feel so self-sufficient – everything you need is right there in your vehicle! Anytime we did have a question we called Alex and he was very responsive. – Ian Lovejoy

Renting an RV is becoming an increasingly popular vacation option. It offers the freedom to go and do as you please on your own schedule and explore farther, wider, and more comfortably than you’d likely be able to through other modes of transportation.

RV travel also includes nightly accommodations and a way to get from here to there. So whether you’re interested in hopping from national park to national park, driving the entirety of Route 66 or anything in between, you’ll likely want to find the best deal.

We’ve researched the cheapest way to rent an RV for a month, so you don’t have to.

Cost to rent an RV for a month

Knowing the general cost of renting an RV for a month is important so you can budget appropriately for your trip.

That said, how much it will cost to rent a camper for a month can vary wildly depending on the size, condition, and whether you’re renting from a private party or a company.

But expect to shell out $50 to $300 or more per night, depending on whether you want a towable travel trailer or a luxurious class A coach.

» Learn more: G u i d e t o r enting an RV for beginners

RV monthly rental cost by type

Here’s a breakdown of a potential monthly RV rental cost by RV type with little to no extras included:

Towable trailer — $1,590-$5,370.

Class C motorhome — $3,600-$10,500.

Class B motorhome or campervan — $3,840-$8,190.

Class A motorhome — $5,070-$12,000.

The total price is based on the number of nights you reserve, so the longer you rent, the more the total will increase (though many rentals offer discounts for longer rental periods).

Examples of RV rental costs per month

If it’s real-world examples of the cost to rent an RV you want, look no further. Here are a few specific examples of what a month-long rental costs for a vacation in October. These prices may not include taxes, fees, and extras like outdoor grills, mileage or camping equipment.

» Learn more: The best RV rental companies and how to choose

Additional fees

Of course, a monthly RV rental will cost more than just the rental vehicle itself. Most rentals come with various taxes, fees for cleaning and mileage, and add-ons such as camping furniture and cookware.

For example, Cruise America charges an additional fee for every mile you drive, so if you plan to travel 3,000 miles, expect to pay an extra $1,140. The company also charges $75 per person for towels and sheets and $125 for kitchen essentials like plates and silverware. That means a $3,600 rental could easily become a $5,165 rental for a family of four, and that’s before you even fill up the tank.

Likewise, peer-to-peer rental companies can vary widely regarding the cost of additional amenities and fees. One Class A might include 125 miles per day for no extra charge, while another only allows 100 and charges 50 cents per additional mile.

One host may include camp chairs and a cooler but charge for linens, while another charges extra for linens, a camp stove and a tent for the kids. Delivery fees can vary, too, if you’d rather not pick up the RV yourself. So check to see if delivery is an option and if the owner will deliver for free within a certain radius or charge per mile.

Don’t forget to budget for insurance, as some companies require it during booking, even if your car rental insurance covers recreational vehicle rentals (most credit card rental car coverage doesn’t cover RV rentals ).

How to save on renting an RV for a month

If you want to save some cash on your RV rental, you can certainly do a few things to stay within your budget.

First, choose the smallest RV you can comfortably get away with. For example, you probably don’t need a class A that sleeps seven people if there are only two of you.

Next, skip the extras and add-ons and bring your own camping and cooking supplies if it’s an option. If you’re flying across the country to rent an RV, packing camp chairs and cookware may not be feasible, but if you’re picking your ride up locally, you can probably save by opting out of add-ons.

Then, shop around. While renting from companies such as Cruise America offers more straightforward pricing, you can score a better deal by comparing prices (including add-ons, extra mileage and fees) on different rental sites, as owners set their own price and fee structures.

There’s no one way to save, just like there’s no one way to travel by RV. Our number one tip is to do some research before you book.
