10-Year Album Anniversary Tours We Hope For in 2023

  • Categories: General News Tagged: Lorde My Bloody Valentine Arctic Monkeys HAIM Daft Punk The 1975

While there has been a ton of great new music this past year, there's nothing wrong with indulging in a little nostalgia. As 2023 approaches, we're looking back to some iconic releases of 2013. As these albums hit the 10-year mark, we hope the bands and artists will choose to have an anniversary tour or choose another way to celebrate the major milestone in the coming year. Get the perfect soundtrack to memory lane with a reminder of some of the great music of 2013.

Lorde - Pure Heroine

Lorde has gone on to influence teenage singer-songwriters like Olivia Rodrigo, but back in 2013 the New Zealand native was the new kid on the block. At just 16, she changed the landscape of pop music with the release of Pure Heroine and its lead single "Royals." The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 in three countries, including her home New Zealand and the neighboring Australia. While "Royals" was the initial smash hit, subsequent singles "Tennis Court" and "Team" kept Lorde on the radio and cemented Pure Heroine as an instant classic. Lorde would continue to find success in the next decade — in fact, her sophomore album Melodrama would garner an Album of the Year nomination at the Grammys — but we think it would be powerful for the singer to reflect on her teenage roots and honor the influence she's had on the current pop landscape.

My Bloody Valentine - m b v

Fans of My Bloody Valentine had to wait over 20 years for them to release their third (and what seems to be final) album, m b v . In the band's typical style, there have been rumors and reports of new music over the past few years, but they've yet to materialize. The Irish-English pioneers of shoegaze could tide their fans over with a tour honoring the 10-year anniversary of m b v. A follow-up to 1991's Loveless, m b v included recorded material from the mid-'90s before the band went on hiatus, as well as both earlier and newer material. Despite the long layoff, the album was critically acclaimed and made many lists of best albums of 2013. My Bloody Valentine fans have always been loyal — the band's site crashed when the album was released directly through the website — and there's no doubt that a tour would make 2023 a year to remember.

Arctic Monkeys - AM

In the UK, Arctic Monkeys were indie-rock royalty as soon as they hit the scene, with even their demos gaining popularity online. Their album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not , was the fastest selling debut in their home country. While the later release in the United States sold well for an independent debut, the band did not hit the same level of success across the pond as they did at home until they started touring. "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" was a hit on the US alternative charts, but a No. 1 single in the UK. So while Arctic Monkeys were a mainstay at home, they fell off the radar a bit in the United States until their seminal 2013 album AM . That's why a US tour celebrating 10 years of their most successful album would pack amphitheaters around the country. With hits like "Do I Wanna Know?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" on AM , the setlist would be a dream come true for indie rock fans everywhere.

Haim - Days Are Gone

The three sisters from the San Fernando Valley made a splash with their debut album, Days Are Gone . While they're returning to the arena stage to support Taylor Swift on select dates of the superstar's Eras tour, we'd love to see the familial trio revisit the era of their first major release. The album landed on "Best of 2013" lists from many publications, including Rolling Stone , Pitchfork , and Spin . Millions were introduced to "The Wire" and "Don't Save Me" when Haim was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on November 23, 2013, and those who have continued rocking out to their music ever since would love to relive that feeling of discovery with an anniversary tour. In some cases, the album's esteem has only grown in the past decade. Two songs on Days Are Gone , including hit single "Forever," were co-produced by the Haim sisters and Ludwig Göransson — who has won an Academy Award, two Grammys, and two Emmy Awards since working with the band. With so many famous friends and collaborators in the past, we'd love to see who Alana, Danielle, and Este would incorporate into a celebration of the album that still dominates many a playlist.

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

February 22, 2023 will mark two years since Daft Punk announced that they had disbanded, and frankly, that's more than enough time to see them back on tour. The first anniversary of their split saw the release of a new remix album of Homework and a stream of a performance from 1997, so why not hope for something even more special for the second anniversary? Though the electronic duo had seen great success in their previous work, 2013 was a renaissance for Daft Punk. Random Access Memories had one of the best-selling digital singles and Spotify streams for a new song with "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams, and the album itself would go on to win Album of the Year at the Grammys. If Daft Punk isn't willing to do a full tour, perhaps they'd be open to another streaming opportunity with the many notable artists who are featured on the album, including Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and Nile Rodgers of Chic. There are certainly enough worthy causes if they were up to putting on a benefit concert.

Embedded content is no longer available.

The 1975 - The 1975

They may currently be touring in support of their fifth studio album (which happens to be their fifth No. 1 album in the UK), but we'd still love to see The 1975 do a tour in honor of their eponymous debut. Their sound and style has definitely evolved and we love how the band has grown and matured, but part of the fun of nostalgia is reflecting on how things have changed. Before they donned coordinating monochromatic suits, The 1975 had the classic garage band look with frontman Matty Healy in an ill-fitting white T-shirt and skinny jeans. A full-fledged nostalgia fest would be a lot of fun, but we'd also love to see how the foursome from Manchester would reinvent their first album for 2023. Though their subsequent albums have seen increased critical acclaim, The 1975 still spawned several hits. "Chocolate" even went double platinum in both the US and the UK. Current set lists tend to only include about three songs from the debut, so we'd love a celebratory tour that brings out some of the deeper cuts like "Heart Out."

Father Mike Schmitz goes on tour, will speak on Eucharist in 4 cities

National Eucharistic Congress

By Francesca Pollio Fenton

CNA Staff, Aug 17, 2024 / 07:30 am

Father Mike Schmitz, the popular Catholic priest known for “The Bible in a Year” and “The Catechism in a Year” podcasts, is hitting the road for a live tour this fall.

Schmitz will visit four cities for the “ Father Mike Schmitz on Tour: The Hour that Will Change Your Life ” tour, making stops in Columbus, Ohio; Akron, Ohio; Indianapolis; and St. Louis from Oct. 21–24.

According to a press release , the tour comes as part of Schmitz’s ongoing fundraising efforts to build a new Catholic campus ministry center for the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he is the chaplain, as part of an assignment given to him by his local ordinary, Bishop Daniel Felton.

The current worship space used is a converted two-car garage. The new center will include a student center to welcome students, a new church for worship, and a new recording studio to help Schmitz with his digital evangelization.

After being a part of a tour earlier this year with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson, acting as host for the Q&A portion of Peterson’s show, Schmitz was approached to see if he was interested in having his own tour. Hesitant at first, someone then brought up the idea of using the tour to help raise funds for the ministry center on campus.

Schmitz said the other factor that intrigued him about doing a small tour was the opportunity to connect with people in person.

“There’s this kind of, you know, virtual relationship, but I haven’t necessarily been in the same space as a lot of folks who have been exposed to things like the homily podcast or ‘Ascension Presents’ or the ‘Bible’ or ‘Catechism in a Year.’ And so the idea was like, well, maybe to be all in the same place,” he told CNA in an interview. “Especially as human beings we’re wired to connect — we’re wired for connection — and so an opportunity to say let’s connect, not just virtually, let’s connect actually in the same space.”

Schmitz explained that the show will be split into two halves — the first being a talk he will give on the Eucharist and the second being a Q&A.

The Exorcist Files

‘Exorcist Files’ podcast tells true stories, aims to raise awareness of ‘reality of evil’

“I love speaking about the Eucharist,” Schmitz shared. “The Eucharist is everything, and so to be able to talk about the Eucharist in a way that hopefully is compelling and opens people’s hearts and minds to how God loves them in the Eucharist and to be able to love him back.”

The Q&A will then serve as the more “personal and relational” part of the show and will allow people “to show up with their questions, and I’ll be able to do my best at least to offer some kind of answer,” he said.

Schmitz said he hopes that those who attend a show will get a true sense of “connection” and that it will serve as an opportunity for people to invite friends or family who “maybe need to hear about the love God has for them in the Eucharist.”

“Also, there’s something about showing up for an event, because almost every talk or teaching could be online, everything could be virtual, but I think there’s something really powerful and special about having the opportunity to come together and being in the same space and sharing an experience,” he added.

“There’s something about these kinds of events, a live event, that says, ‘Let’s have a shared experience’ and let that experience hopefully be uplifting and educational and inspiring and hopefully transform hearts.”

Cannot wait for Toronto! I live in Buffalo NY but there was no date for that. Toronto is only a 2 hour drive!

World Tour? More like local tour; where are the Mexico dates man?

They tour all over the world and they have been for yearssss. They usually tour outside of the US and usually go to Mexico, Canada, and basically any European country. It might not be to late to buy tickets for Mexico if they haven't already been there.

I didn't notice a Chicagoland date! Please come back to St. Charles, IL!

Ten Years After are a brit-pop band that gained prominence in the 60s due to their well even and interesting mix of hard rock, blues and jazz. Though the band’s primary offerings were reportedly awkward sounding, they found their place within Britain’s musical landscape in a short time period.

Front man Alvin Lee led an assortment of virtuoso musicians in Ten Years After, which included guitarist Chick Churchill, drummer Rick Lee, and bassist Leo Lyons. Prior to the band’s formation several core members were in a group called Ivan Jay and the Jaycats. The band after several name and line up changes would morph into Ten Years After. The group would later assume the name Jaybirds and then Ivan Jay and the Jaymen.

They became very popular locally but branched off to London in 1966 to play with the Ivy League. This same year they completed their official lineup with the addition of keyboardist Chick Churchill. The band altered their name two more times before settling on Ten Yeats After. They changed it to Blues Trip upon signing Chris Wright as their manager and to Blues Yard during their show at the Marquee Club.

In 1967 they entered in a recording contract with a subsidiary of Decca called Deram and released their self-titled debut. The album featured 4 cover songs, two of those being Willie Dixon compositions “Spoonful” and “Help Me”. Though the release did not receive enthusiastic reviews, it created awareness of their presence and gave them a chance to showcase their potential.

Their second album “Undead” more than made up for the insecure start set by their previous release. “Undead” was recorded live in an intimate jazz club in London called Klooks Kleek. It flaunted the band’s deep understanding of blues and boogie music, paying a particular amount of attention to jump blues. The album contained only 5 tracks; however, they were considerably more lengthy than the standard pop song. The shortest track which was the Gershwin cover “Summertime” clocked in at 5:44 and the band original “I May Be Wrong, But I Won’t Be Wrong Always” took up 9:49 worth of space on the album. It was the track “I’m Going Home”, which threw Ten Years After into commercial stardom. The single became a hit in both the US and UK and boosted album sales significantly.

The band amped up the production of albums within the next 2 years, yielding 4 studio releases during this time frame. “Stonedhenge” came out in 1969 and consisted of mostly original tracks with the exception of the 59 second rendition of the folk traditional “Three Blind Mice”. “Ssssh” was also released that year and rose to No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the UK charts.

The band’s follow up “Criklewood Green” received glowing reviews and entered the Billboard 200 at No.14. The album was released in 1970 as was “Watt”, which was another album consisting of entirely original material apart from the closing track “Sweet Little Sixteen” written by Chuck Berry.

The band fulfilled their contract with Deram after the release of Watt and released their next album “A Space in Time” through Columbia. The band departed from their improvisational psychedelic blues style and went into a more coherent pop direction. Though this approach worked initially, it’s success did not cross over to their 1974 album “Positive Vibration”. After this release the group decided to call it quits.

The band reformed approximately 10 years after their break up, performing at the Reading Festival. The concert was recorded and released on CD as “The Friday Rock Show Sessions”. The group took yet another break but got back together in 1988 to play a few concerts and record the album “About Time”, which was released in 1989. Ten Years After did not release another album until 2004s “About Time”, which was followed in 2008 by “Evolution”; however, both recordings did not feature principal songwriter Alvin Lee.

Live reviews

One of the most successful bands to ever come out of Nottingham, Ten Years After are typical of the kind of blues rock success stories that emerged from the late sixties and early seventies; whilst they never enjoyed the kind of longevity that, if anything, has gone on to define many of their peers, they at least knew what it was to take the charts by storm during the relatively brief time that the original lineup was together, with a career that spanned eight years to begin with. They turned out a hugely impressive eight albums in eight years between 1966 and 1974, with all of them charting on the UK top forty and on the Billboard rundown in the United States, too; there’s no question that they enjoyed genuine Transatlantic success. After a one-off reunion at the Reading festival in 1983, a lineup that closely resembled the original one reformed to tour in 1988, releasing a new album, About Time, the following year. That lineup underwent a dramatic reshuffle earlier this year, perhaps prompted by the death of Alvin Lee last year; Leo Lyons and Joe Gooch left the band, and have been replaced accordingly as the group continue to line up new dates.
