Does anyone know the name of the song at the start of the second Canada segment?

Good episode. The lawyers in the Tesla Model X trial were funny. They have once again proved that they are ambitious but void. It is true that James flowing at the end of the episode recalls the end of Top Gear Special Vietnam.

' src=

Solid episode, I got Vietnam flashbacks at the end xD. However, Paris Hilton’s presence was just annoying to me, she looked so out of place.

So the Raptor came as a replacement for the QV…..That’s odd

2019 Toyota GR Supra Jeremy Clarkson review

Jeremy Clarkson: I really wanted to love the new Toyota Supra, but . . .

"it's not underwhelming, by any means. it's just whelming.".

THE NEW Toyota Supra may have succeeded in winning over Mat Watson, who reviewed the Japanese sports car for Driving.co.uk , but writing in the Sunday Times Magazine today, it’s clear Jeremy Clarkson was less impressed.

In theory, the Toyota ticks many of the Clarkson’s boxes for a stellar review.”I’d been looking forward to driving it very much,” Clarkson writes, “because it’s exactly the sort of car I like. Front-engined. Two seats in the middle. And drive to the back. All put together by Japanese robots so it will never, ever go wrong.”

The praise continues when it comes to the way the Supra feels behind the wheel. The Grand Tour host says its handling is “the honest-to-God, meat-and-two-veg stuff that causes hairy-backed motoring enthusiasts to drool slightly”. Clarkson claims he doesn’t mind the fact that it shares an engine, an interior and many other bits and pieces with its Bavarian stepsister, the BMW Z4 roadster .

So far Toyota appears to have got its sports car recipe spot on, but then Clarkson drops the bombshell: the Supra “doesn’t really work.”

He explains: “It’s not underwhelming, by any means, but neither is it overwhelming. It’s just whelming and I was expecting, I dunno, a bit of chilli and lemongrass in the mix.”

He goes on to suggest the Toyota may be suffering from an identity crisis, and wonders what could tempt buyers into the driver’s seat when they could choose instead the “far prettier” BMW Z4, or a Toyota GT86 that “does broadly the same sort of thing” as the Supra for around half the price.

But there was a more fundamental issue for Clarkson. Even if the Toyota Supra had turned out to be the greatest sports car of all time to drive, he still wouldn’t have liked it as he found it immensely difficult to squeeze his long frame into the car’s cabin. While he’s admittedly thankful to Toyota for equipping the double bubble roof that improves interior head room for taller people, it’s a bit of a moot point when the small doors make it extremely difficult to get in and out.

Clarkson writes that he “had to adopt all sorts of horrific yoga positions to get on board”, and confessed to wondering whether he’d need to “drive lightly into a tree so the fire brigade would cut the roof off and I could get out that way”.

That means the new Toyota Supra joins the original Ford GT40 in being a performance car that Jeremy Clarkson can’t fit in , which isn’t ideal if you’re after praise from the world’s most famous motoring journalist.

Key Takeaways

  • Top Gear trio, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, returned with The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime after leaving the original show.
  • The Grand Tour evolved over 5 seasons, ditching the Top Gear format for adventure-based episodes filmed around the world.
  • The Grand Tour will conclude in Zimbabwe after over 20 years of automotive adventures, as the trio pursue new projects individually.

If you were around, conscious and a self-proclaimed automotive enthusiast in the early 2000s, then you should distinctly know three names: Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond and James May. These three British car enthusiasts hosted one of (if not) the most prolific automotive review shows, that started in 2002, named " Top Gear ." Top Gear was a no-holds bar, British automotive enthusiasts' show that had glitz, glamour and the Stig.

They had several different segments that covered automotive news, hot laps with new cars, celebrity guests and eventually turned it into a touring series where they would globe trot, partaking in all kinds of adventures with different automobiles. Unfortunately, the beloved TV series did not come without its fair share of controversies. As a result, Jeremey Clarkson was fired from the series. James May and Richard Hammond subsequently resigned in 2014.

Fast-forward to 2015 and rumors starting swirling around the internet that the three automotive musketeers were going to make a comeback in a "Grand" style. By the time 2016 rolled around, there was an official announcement that they were coming back to host their own TV series called, " The Grand Tour ." The Grand Tour is a carbon copy of Top Gear that has the guy's own twist on the series. We're going to go over the synopses of the series, tell you where you can stream it and cover the fact that it may be on its last tour.

HotCars has sourced information from IMDb and Amazon Prime, in order to bring you everything you need to know about streaming The Grand Tour .

Here's What Top Gear's "The Stig" Now Does As A Day Job

For years, Ben Collins was the silent driver in the white suit pushing supercars to their limits, and today, he continues that on the silver screen.

Here's Where You Can Stream Every Episode Of The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour consists of five seasons. Each episode is between one hour and 90 minutes in length. The first couple of seasons have a similar format to the original Top Gear. Instead of a dedicated location, they would film in a massive tent in different locations around the world. Finally, they ended up staying put in The Cotswolds, England.

When the third season premiered, they had completely trashed the idea of carbon copying Top Gear. Instead, they focused on making it a show of their own and really leaning into the "Grand Tour" aspect of the show. They sacked the studio audience, the tent and the hot laps for going on season-long adventures around the world .

When it comes to streaming these three famous gear heads, you have two options. It originally (and still does) air on Amazon Prime here in the US. Prime TV is included with your Amazon Prime membership, but if you do not want to buy a Prime membership for $140 a year, you can buy episodes in a pay-per-view format. You can also watch it for free (with advertisements) on FreeVee.

Where To Watch

  • Amazon Prime: $14.99 per month.
  • FreeVee - Free with created profile.

This Is The Best Road Trip Ever From A Top Gear Special

The Patagonia Special was arguably one of Top Gear's most memorable, with it being much more than Clarkson, Hammond, and May just driving cool cars.

The Grand Tour Seasons 1-3 Synopsis

Season one premiered November 18th, 2016 and is currently sitting at an 8.6 out of 10 rating on IMDB, titled: The Holy Trinity. The set-up of the first couple of seasons mimicked the format of Top Gear . The difference is that they re-titled the different segments to not only not be sued by the BBC, but also to give them their own style and flair. The first season had 13 episodes, and they went all over from Nambia to Stuttgart in Germany, engaging in their usual wacky antics.

They even poked fun at their last series. Whenever they have a "celebrity" on, they would have them perish in some horrendous accident behind the tent that was all a stunt to make fun of the "stars in a reasonably priced car" segment from Top Gear. There were hot laps, a news segment called "conversation street" and a Stig-like stand-in, who would actually show their face while driving the car of the week. Instead of the Stig, they employed "the American." Mike Skinner is his name, and he is a NASCAR driver that they would poke fun at while he was driving whatever car they threw at him.

The Contraversial Segment Top Gear Couldn't Air, According To The Stig

Ben Collins, aka The Stig, decided to reveal some of the most fascinating pieces of trivia from across his long career in TV and racing.

The Grand Tour Seasons 4-5 Synopsis

Releasing in December 2019, the producers scrapped the knock-off Top Gear format and instead stuck to their name and actually took the guys on a "Grand Tour." No longer was the studio audience, the segments, or the Stig with a face. In its place, they traveled to Cambodia and Vietnam, and even to Scotland. The year 2020 saw the inevitable COVID-19 pandemic which halted production.

Naturally, the pandemic caused complications for filming, but the trio persevered. In order to abide by UK laws at the time, which instructed individuals to restrict who they mix with, they each purchased a caravan in which they could travel in whilst filming, which was also the basis for the camera crew. By following these guidelines, the GT team were still able to deliver a new episode.

The Grand Tour Turned To "Special" Feature-Length Episodes

With the unfortunate rise of the pandemic, production of The Grand Tour turned season 4 into shorter specials that highlighted different adventures . Each episode was titled along the lines of: "The Grand Tour Presents: *Insert Special Title Here*" This is where the true nature of grand touring came into play. They took a detour from their typical four-wheeled vehicles and traded them in for speed boats to travel around Vietnam in "The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen."

The "Lochdown" episode is a cheeky title based on the fact that the guys take three of their favorite vintage American cars on a trip around Scotland. The final special consisted of the guys absolutely destroying different French cars by any means necessary and even driving some strange plane-type car.

Jeremy Clarkson Isn't The Only Top Gear Alumni That Now Has A Farm

Ben Collins AKA The Stig, decided to purchase his very own farm to produce cider.

The End Of The Grand Tour Has Been Announced

In November 2023, it was announced that the series would be coming to an end. In an interview with Variety magazine , Jeremy Clarkson actually stated that, "I’m unfit and fat and old." Unlike the end of Top Gear , the guys are going to be ending it on their own terms because, in all honesty, they've been doing it for over 20 years at this point. When announcing the end of The Grand Tour in the final 'normal' episode, Jeremy was understandably emotional.

They have climbed the highest peaks, crossed the hottest deserts , driven the nicest cars possible and are basically throwing in the towel. Maybe Jeremy just wants to tend to his farm. The final episodes are currently streaming on Prime and Freevee. The last episode will take place in Zimbabwe, but there has not been an official announcement on the release date. The three gearheads now enjoy unique projects of their own, such as Jeremy's new show, Clarkson's Farm , which is also available to stream on Amazon Prime. James May also enjoys a number of his own shows, in addition to having recently set up a gin company. Hammond runs his own classic car workshop, with a show on Discovery+, dubbed Richard Hammond's Workshop .

This also means a technical raise in entry MSRP, as the less expensive 2.0 served as the gateway Supra. That duty now rests on the rear haunches of the 3.0, starting at $57,345 with delivery, followed by the 3.0 Premium, the only other trim remaining, at $60,495. Compared to 2024’s 3.0, ‘25 pricing has increased $850 for either grade.

No other significant changes have been made to the GR Supra. Both trims, for no extra cost, can be had with either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual , delivering all 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. And buyers can put all of that performance to work thanks to the Supra’s complimentary year-long NASA membership– no, not that NASA. The National Auto Sport Association, to which a membership includes one free High Performance Driving Event, discounts on NASA-sanctioned events and other benefits.

Toyota has been on a roll with their GR sub-branding, including the GR86 and GR Corolla , two pint-sized performance machines we’ve grown quite fond of. They, along with the GR Supra, created a trifecta of excellence for U.S. Toyota enthusiasts (and we’re not counting the GR Yaris, absent from the stateside market). So, does this herald the beginning of the end for the GR Supra? Perhaps, but we sure hope not.

Take a Victory Lap in the 2025 Toyota GR Supra

Take a Victory Lap in the 2025 Toyota GR Supra

  • 2025 GR Supra Available in Two Grades: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium
  • Rated up to 382 Horsepower with 368 lb-ft. of Torque
  • Automatic or Manual Transmission Available on Both Grades
  • Complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association

PLANO, Texas (June 28, 2024) – Expert tested on the raceway and equipped to conquer the streets, the 2025 Toyota GR Supra has earned a reputation for offering impressive handling and exhilarating driving performance.

The 2025 GR Supra is available in two grades: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, both available with a manual transmission option or an automatic transmission. GR Supra is powered by an inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine that outputs up to 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft. of torque.

The sports car also continues to offer performance-focused standard equipment across all models, like a double joint-type MacPherson front and multi-link independent rear suspension, sport calibrated electronic power steering, and dual rear exhaust outlets. All models wear high performance Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport tires for maximum grip of the Supra’s Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) platform.

Driving Performance of a True Sports Car The GR Supra’s balance of ride quality, powerful acceleration, and agile handling offers an experience that excites the senses from the moment drivers push the start button. Equipped with a dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, a deep growl rumbles to life at ignition. The exhaust note is just one part of the equation, as the engine is also designed to manage heat and airflow to maximize its 10.2:1 compression ratio while preventing abnormal combustion due to high boost.

With an engine that produces high torque at high rpm, the GR Supra retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness, that can deliver a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds in the 8-speed AT and 4.2 seconds in the MT. GR Supra 3.0 grades equipped with the AT have a manufacturer-estimated 23 city/31 highway/26 combined. Fuel economy is due in part to standard start/stop technology, which shuts the engine off while the car is at rest.

Drivers can select from Normal, Sport, and Individual modes that adjust throttle response, suspension damping, and power steering settings. Additionally, both grades include an Adaptative Variable Suspension (AVS) with sensors that constantly detect changes in the driving operations and road surface conditions, and solenoid valves finely control the damping force of the shock absorbers. In the 3.0 and 3.0 premium grades, NORMAL mode provides a high-level balance between vehicle stability and supple ride comfort, enabling sports driving without sacrificing comfort. SPORT mode realizes a reassuring and flat vehicle posture with suppressed roll and driving with a more agile steering response.

In 2023, the GR Supra’s suspension was retuned and the shock and shock absorbers were set for a balance between body roll and ride comfort. The mechanical components in the electric power steering and the system’s operating parameters were also tuned for agile handling. All models come with an active rear sport differential standard.

the grand tour toyota supra episode

Premium Vibes Inside and Out On the inside, drivers experience a refined cockpit. The 3.0 grade comes with standard black soft-touch Alcantara and leather-trimmed sport seats with power adjustment. The 3.0 Premium grade brings a luxury feel with power adjustable seats that come with an option of black leather-trimmed seats or a hazelnut-colored leather trim.

Audio options add a sonic dimension to a drive in the GR Supra with a 12-speaker, 500-watt JBL® Hi-Fi system standard on the 3.0 Premium. The 3.0 grade can be upgraded to the 12-speaker JBL system when equipped with the available Safety & Technology Plus JBL Package. GR 3.0 models equipped with the Safety & Technology package will come with Toyota Supra Connect.

Exterior color options include Stratosphere* (blue), Absolute Zero (white), Nocturnal (black), and Renaissance Red 2.0. The 2025 GR Supra is expected to arrive on dealer lots this fall with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) of $56,250 plus Dealer Processing and Handling (DPH) of $1,095 for the GR Supra 3.0 model. The GR Supra 3.0 Premium model starts at an MSRP of $59,400 plus DPH (AT or MT equipped).

*Extra-cost color.

Hands On with GR Supra Manual In 2023, a welcomed addition to Mk V Supra was the option of a Manual Transmission. Developed by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Engineers in Japan in cooperation with Toyota Motor Europe, and German transmission supplier ZF, the MT is a no additional cost option on the Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium models.

The manual gearbox was built with components designed specifically to suit the power and torque characteristics of the GR Supra’s 3.0-liter 382-hp straight-six engine. The engineering team combined an existing transmission housing and gear set, developed a new shift lever, and removed elements that were not required, such as the acoustic package, which reduced weight, bringing the manual transmission-equipped Supra in at 3,389 pounds. At the heart of the transmission is a new large-diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring. With a larger friction area and a strong spring, this component has the high-performance capability appropriate for use with the GR Supra’s high-torque engine.

The manual gearbox also features an Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) programmed with software that prioritizes sporty performance. When upshifting, the parameters are tuned to optimize engine torque at the moment of clutch engagement and release. On downshifts, the software includes rev matching for consistent performance. The iMT is set as the default, but, if the driver prefers, it can be switched off in Individual Mode.

Close attention was also given to how a manual shifter could be accommodated in the driver’s cockpit. The lever ratio was specifically set to minimize the effort required to make shifts and engage the reverse gear. While the weight and shape of the shift knob, along with the quality of shift engagement, have all been precisely defined. Ergonomics were also considered, as the console unit and position of the drive mode selector were adjusted to provide a 1.7-inch clearance between the shift knob and the control panel.

the grand tour toyota supra episode

Traction, Stability, and Agility Tuning GR Supra MT equipped models’ traction and braking systems are optimized for driving with a stick shift. With the automatic transmission, it’s possible to use the second gear when pulling away uphill when opposite wheels are on surfaces with different grip levels. For example, when the car is parked on a partly icy road, progress is smooth with virtually no rolling back or wheel slip. With a manual gearbox, first gear must be used and releasing the clutch brings a greater risk of wheel spin. To address the issue, Toyota engineers have tuned the car’s TRAction Control (TRAC) system to help achieve smooth operation similar to the AT equipped model.

The system is also optimized for the GR Supra’s characteristic high engine torque, wide tires, and rear-wheel drive. The car’s character when accelerating out of a corner is a key element in the “Fun to Drive” quality Toyota has developed for the GR Supra. For the MT-equipped version, the traction control has again been the focus to help ensure an ideal balance of agility and stability when exiting a corner on the throttle. TRAC intervention has been calibrated to help maintain stability – so the car can keep faithfully to the driver’s intended line – while allowing the right amount of power for a sporty experience.

To counter the possibility of “snap-off” oversteer – something that may be hard to control with the car’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) alone – an Anti-Roll Program (ARP) is in use for both the MT- and AT-equipped versions of the GR Supra. This is designed to intervene at an earlier point with the VSC to counter any sudden loss of grip when the car’s high-response suspension setting is used.

Audio, Technology Packages, and Connected Features All 2025 GR Supra models come equipped with an 8.8-inch touchscreen display that can also be controlled through a rotary touch controller. GR Supra 3.0 grade comes with a 205-Watt, 10-speaker audio system standard, while the 3.0 Premium grade comes equipped with a 12-speaker 500-Watt JBL® Premium Audio System.

Wireless Qi charging is standard on the 3.0 grade equipped with a manual transmission as well as the 3.0 Premium grade. Wireless Apple CarPlay® is available on the 3.0 grade and standard on the 3.0 Premium grade. When customers upgrade to the Safety & Technology Package with JBL on the 3.0 grade, they get:

  • 12-speaker 500-watt JBL Premium Audio System

Everything We Know About The New Toyota Supra

All-but-confirmed rumors of a rebooted Toyota Supra, coupled with numerous leaks, have made it one of the worst-kept secrets in the car industry. Here’s everything we know so far.

Table of Contents

ON THE OUTSIDE

the grand tour toyota supra episode

Externally, the new Supra shares much with its predecessor. A classic coupe profile, two doors and a long hood are nothing new. It’s likely that it’ll be very close to the concept, with a sharply pointed front end and wide hips. The production version retains the concept’s triple LEDs and simple bladelike running lights, but appears to add an extra intake where the concept’s nose reached down the front fascia. It’s not clear from the spy photos whether the production car retains the concept’s dazzling clear hood, but it’s not likely as this is something rarely seen on any front-engined cars.

The new Supra Concept

Around back, the most recent spy shots show LED taillights breaking away from the early mules’ simple circles, instead favoring a somewhat squashed triangle and line reminiscent of those on the concept. Unfortunately, the production version does lose the vertical slats below the lights, which is questionable as they add a lot of style and have already been implemented on production cars for years (think LFA). The spoiler is also nicely integrated into the body instead of being tacked on.

ON THE INSIDE

the grand tour toyota supra episode

The new Supra is expected to share some, if not many, interior bits with modern BMWs thanks to Toyota’s partnership with the German firm. In the shot above, we see most of the center console, including the strange shifter, has been ripped straight from a BMW. This doesn’t seem to be the final interior, though, as the newer shots below show a different center console paired with a BMW steering wheel.

Of course, the car will likely be far from a BMW parts bin special, but it’s nice to know that the Supra will get a whiff of the interior quality that’s been a strong point of BMWs over the last couple years, now that iDrive’s myriad kinks have mostly been ironed out.

The most noteworthy thing in this shot is an interesting digital instrument cluster that looks to be all screen in the middle, flanked by physical gauges; this differs from Toyota’s previous approach to digital gauges with the LFA, which had a physical gauge inside the screen that moved about depending on drive mode. The Supra also appears to share BMW’s controller knob, likely complete with touch sensitivity allowing you to write right on it with your finger.

UNDER THE SKIN

The Supra is likely to be outfitted with two engine options mirroring those of its sister car, the new BMW Z4 that was recently leaked.  A leaked document  showing BMW’s model codes for the two cars reveal a four-cylinder model (no word on exact displacement) giving around 250hp and a six-cylinder, likely shared with the M2, outputting around 335hp. Europe will get an extra four-cylinder, but it’ll only be available on the Z4, not the Supra.

By far the most shocking news to come out of the document is the fact that the Supra probably won’t come with a manual transmission. As this document is a couple months old and the car, of course, isn’t official yet, it’s not completely out of the question. If it does come with a manual, it’ll also likely be filched from BMW, which is little hardship as the current M2 has one of the best manual gearboxes on the market. However, it’s entirely possible Toyota will elect to push the new Supra as less of a small, zippy sports car than a grown-up GT; this would likely be to avoid encroaching on the small, zippy 86’s market share.

In summary, the new Supra will look much like its concept, and be powered by either a 250hp-ish four-cylinder or a 335hp-ish six-cylinder. It probably won’t come with a manual and will be twinned in Europe with the next-generation BMW Z4. It’s likely to be officially unveiled toward the end of this year or in the first months of 2018.
