The anfield experience: liverpool’s iconic stadium.
- February 29, 2024
- Ricky Carroll, Editor
Anfield Stadium, home to Liverpool FC , has been consistently rated by fans as one of the best Premier League stadiums in England in terms of atmosphere and overall fan experience.
Spending a day at this remarkable venue is a one-of-a-kind experience that is guaranteed to be unforgettable. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about visiting Anfield Stadium.
Buying Tickets
The first step on your journey to Anfield Stadium is purchasing tickets. Due to the popularity and demand, buying Liverpool tickets isn’t always an easy task. However, there are a few tips and tricks that will help you increase your chances.
The first tip is to plan ahead and book tickets as early as you can. This tip is particularly crucial if you’re looking to attend a significant game, particularly deciding matches and local derbies, as tickets for these fixtures tend to sell out quickly.
If you’ve missed out on buying tickets from the official Liverpool FC website, don’t fret — there are a few other avenues you can explore. Trusted online resellers offer a means of securing access to otherwise sold out matches, but be sure to check reviews and ensure you are buying from a reputable provider of genuine tickets.
Things to Know Before The Big Day
Arrive Early
It is recommended that you arrive at least 45 minutes before kick-off to ensure you have enough time to find your seats and enjoy some refreshments before the game starts. Planning to arrive early will also offer you some leeway in the event of any unforeseen circumstances delaying your arrival.
There are no cash points in Anfield Stadium, so make sure you take out any cash that you’ll need for the day in advance.
Don’t Buy Tickets from Outside the Stadium
We strongly advise that you do not buy tickets from sellers outside the stadium. These tickets are often fraudulent, going against the club’s ticketing policy. Purchasing fake tickets is not only a waste of money, but also incredibly disappointing when you are denied access at the gate.
Travelling to Anfield Stadium
There are several options to choose from when making your way to Anfield Stadium:
Many people choose to travel to Anfield Stadium by car. While this is a good option, remember that traffic will be particularly heavy before and after the match. Options for parking may be limited and in some cases expensive, so be sure to leave adequate time for travelling to and from the stadium.
Liverpool has excellent bus connections with plenty of routes running from the city centre. Bus numbers 14 and 19 depart from the city centre and stop near the football stadium, making it a cheap, easy, and sustainable option for heading to the game.
If you’re travelling from further afield, the closest train station to Anfield Stadium is Liverpool Lime Street Station. This is around 2 miles, or a 30-minute walk, from the stadium. From here, you can either travel on foot or order a taxi.
Taxis in and around Liverpool offer excellent value for money. The journey from the city centre to Anfield Stadium takes around 10 minutes and typically costs around £7-9.
Anfield Stadium is located in a residential area not too far from the city centre. Depending on where you’re travelling from, arriving at the stadium on foot is a great option that will guarantee arrival on time.
Other Ways to Experience Anfield Stadium
Stadium Tour
If you’re unable to secure tickets to a match on your chosen dates, consider arranging a stadium tour. This typically includes visits to the dressing rooms, players’ tunnel, pitchside, and the press room.
The Anfield Experience
The Anfield Experience is one step up from a stadium tour. This unique package allows you to spend the day like a VIP in Anfield Stadium and includes access to restricted areas, Q&As with former players, and even photo opportunities with trophies.
Museum Visit
The Liverpool FC Museum is also located at Anfield and offers a deep insight into the club’s rich history. The museum itself is filled with memorabilia and information about the club and its players (both past and present). There are also interactive exhibits and a range of different activities catering to all age groups.
If you’re keen to visit Anfield Stadium but want to experience it in a new way, consider attending a concert. A huge range of prominent bands have graced the stage at Anfield Stadium including Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, and Take That (to name a few!).
Anfield Stadium is one of the top attractions in Liverpool. Securing tickets to a Liverpool FC match isn’t always easy, but by planning ahead, buying tickets early, and exploring various ticket purchasing options, you’ll increase your chances of gaining access to this iconic stadium.
If you’re looking for a truly memorable experience, The Anfield Experience and stadium tour offers an in-depth look at the rich history of Liverpool FC and their home stadium.

Liverpool is heading to the USA for the first time since 2019 this summer. The Reds will do so with a new manager, with Jürgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the campaign.
In February, Liverpool confirmed that it would be taking on Arsenal on Wednesday, July 31 in Philadelphia and then Manchester United in South Carolina on Saturday, August 3 . Both of those games are already sold out.
But another date has been added to the summer list. Liverpool vs Real Betis will take place at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday, July 26. It will kick-off at 7.30pm EST (12am BST).

The pre-sale for tickets opens Wednesday, April 10, at 10am ET (3pm BST) for LFC Official Members, season ticket holders, official LFC supporters clubs, hospitality members and international academies. Tickets for the general public will go on sale at Ticketmaster on Thursday, April 11 at 9am ET (2pm BST).
Real Betis was founded in 1907 and is based in Seville. It is the three-time winner of the Copa Del Rey, most recently in 2022, defeating Valencia. Spanish star Isco Alarcón and World Cup champions Nabil Fekir, German Pezzella and Guido Rodríguez are on the Real Betis roster. So too is American midfielder Johnny Cardoso who plays for the US Men's National Team.
The match could be the first game that Liverpool plays under a new manager though the remaining pre-season plans are yet to be publicly announced. The 2024/25 season in the Premier League will kick off on the weekend of August 17 and 18. The fixture list is usually published a few weeks after the prior campaign has come to a close.
Liverpool is currently second in the Premier League table on goal difference, level on points with Arsenal. There are seven league matches remaining plus a maximum of four games in the Europa League including a potential final.
The last time that Liverpool headed Stateside was the summer of 2019, just after the Reds had become the European champion for the sixth time. Since then, a combination of the Covid pandemic and then commercial opportunities in Asia have meant that they have not gone back until now.
In 2019, Liverpool played against Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting CP in New York, Boston and Indiana. The Reds played on the west coast of the US during Klopp's first summer in charge back in 2016 with friendly fixtures against Chelsea, AC Milan and AS Roma.

Liverpool add extra date to 2024 preseason US Tour
Liverpool have another date circled in their preseason. The club announced a friendly against LaLiga side Betis as part of a mini-tour of the United States this summer. The Reds return to the US for the first time in five years, with the aim of preparing the squad for the new season - one which they will head into with a new manager at the helm.
The Reds kickstart their US tour against Betis at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday 26 July with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT / 4:30 p.m. PDT.
Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón , said, “There’ no doubt this is a particularly exciting game for us for several reasons . Firstly, because it will give us the chance to gauge our level against one of the top teams in the world but also because playing Liverpool brings back so many memories of our debut in the Champions League and the great atmosphere we encountered both at the Benito Villamarín and Anfield. We are clubs with similar values and both boast a large fanbase - supporters who feel passionately about their teams . It’s wonderful that we will be meeting again in Pittsburgh”.
1982: Mission in Marbella
This will be Liverpool’s fourth encounter with the Seville-based outfit. The two teams first came face to face in the semi-final of the IV Trofeo Ciudad de Marbella on 14 August 1982. Wearing their iconic Crown Paints kit, Liverpool beat the Verdiblancos 0-2 at Estadio Municipal de Marbella with goals from Kenny Dalglish and David Hodgson . Málaga would later deny Paisley’s team the trophy, winning the shootout 4-2 after the final ended 1-1 (Fer Rodríguez ‘7 and Alan Kennedy ‘67).
Liverpool and Betis were drawn together in the 2005/6 Champions League group stage with the Spanish club handed a baptism of fire by meeting the champions in matchday 1 in the tournament debut. Pongolle lobbed Antonio Doblas to put the visitors ahead on two minutes and Luis García added another 10 minutes later. Arzu pulled one back for the hosts after the break as it ended 1-2. The return fixture at Anfield on matchday 5 failed to produce any goals with Crouch and Morientes fluffing a handful of chances.

The club will return to the USA this summer for the first time since 2019 and matches have already been announced with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Arsenal game takes place on July 31 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and will be followed by the encounter with United at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina on August 3.
