Where to go on safari

Authentic off-the-beaten-track safaris

           Luxury

If you are looking for a luxurious high-quality bush experience, then there are options in all countries, but most notably in Botswana, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kenya.

           Earthy

For a more earthy and intimate experience, with a greater focus on high quality guiding and walking safari, there are good options in Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

          Overland

For private-guided overland safaris, which offer a broader African experience, but which are slightly more arduous, the Serengeti region of Tanzania is the place.

          Lower cost

If you need to find the best lower cost options, then you should probably start in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

            Self-drive

For self-drive safari options, Namibia is the stand-out country, with further options in South Africa.

          Primates

If you are interested in gorillas and chimps, then you need to lookk at Rwanda, Uganda and Congo.

            8 to 14 nights

Most of our guests tend to deploy 8 to 14 nights in Africa, of which anything from 3 to 13 nights are spend actually on safari. Combining with other locations like tropical beaches, rural areas, Victoria Falls and Cape Town can add variety into a trip and help to keep a lid on costs.

           12 to 21 nights

Longer trips of 12 to 21 nights tend to include 9-20 nights on safari, usually split across two to five different areas, sometimes in two or more countries. Longer explorations of non-safari areas such as the Western Cape (Cape Town, Whale Coast, Cape Winelands) also become possible and are incredibly good value.

             21 to 50 nights

We absolutely love putting together even trips of 21 to 50 nights , or even longer. Sometimes we are lucky enough to work with guests who are taking a sabbatical from work or who are retired and just love to travel. In these trips, the possibilities become almost infinite and can include a half dozen or more countries.

Safaris in Africa range from relatively pricey to eye-wateringly expensive. For the core safari nights in a trip, you can expect to spend USD 500 to 3500 per person per night. We are more than happy to work across this range of prices. The only important thing is that we help you find the very best safari to suit your budget. The two dominant price factors are the specific lodges that you choose to include in your trip and how many people you are bringing (solo safari can be impractically expensive, whilst the economies of scale are usually reached at around 4-6 guests). If you have a higher budget , we will help you determine which camps do actually deliver elevated levels of service and experience. We will also highlight other subtle ways in which your trip can be raised to another level, including the use of whole camp bookings, private guides and vehicles, helicopter explorations of remote areas etc. If you have a medium budget , the best ways to keep a lid on costs are to travel out of the Jul-Oct dry season and to carefully choose lower-priced lodges.  You can also reduce the number of core safari nights and deploy time in more cost-effective beach, town and rural locations. We will help you understand where to trim and where to splash in order to achieve the best overall experience. If you have a lower budget , then talk to us about last-minute booking options, which can deliver some extraordinary discounts. Failing that, we can always look at other fundamentally less pricey safari countries.

How much to spend in Africa

Tropical beaches

If you want to include tropical beaches with your safari, the most convenient locations are Kenya, Tanzania and the Kruger area of South Africa. Other safari areas and more remote Indian Ocean islands can be combined, but the connections are more sticky.

Popular combos locations

Primate areas

If you also want to go trekking in the tropical forests in search of gorillas and chimpanzees, then you need to head to Rwanda or Uganda, which combine most easily with the Serengeti region of Tanzania for savanna safari.

Rural locations

Some safari locations are located near attractive rural areas, where stylish lodges offer a chance to relax and undertake a whole other range of more culturally-focused activities. The Serengeti region of Tanzania is particularly strong in this respect.

Africa has around 2300 safari lodges. We are able to include any of these properties in your trip. We ones most like to recommend fall into two categories … Firstly, there are the truly high-end lodges , which are in the very best locations and offer the highest levels of guiding, hospitality and consistency, suitable for demanding guests. Secondly, there are the relatively good value camps , which are also in excellent locations and also take their guiding very seriously, but which typically offer lower levels of luxury and have the potential to be slightly less consistent in their delivery, suitable for more easy-going guests. The properties that we generally prefer to avoid in Africa are the large sausage-factory-type places, which deliver nasty low-quality safari experiences to guests who appear to be on a very different agenda. We also need to avoid very simple lodges, where the experience can be too unreliable for us to recommend. You can always expect absolute honesty from us when describing the various lodges and camps. Our primary motivation is to figure out which ones will suit you the best.

The best safari lodges in Africa

There are nine main safari countries in Africa, which vary enormously in terms of landscapes, climates, wildlife, safari styles, visitor facilities and visitor numbers. Deciding the best countries to include in your trip is a fundamentally important issue.

When to go on safari in Africa

The various safari  areas of Africa are not only very seasonal, but even in the same month conditions can vary enormously from place to place. Careful planning is extremely important. The high level view goes something like this … May-Sep is the main dry season in most safari locations, with dry and sunny conditions, prolific wildlife viewing, high season prices and relatively high visitor traffic. Oct-Nov is a transition period in most areas, with mixed weather conditions, slightly reduced wildlife sightings, reduced prices and relatively low visitor traffic. Dec-Jan is usually good in most of East Africa, but hot and rainy in much of Southern Africa, with high season prices and high visitor traffic for the middle two weeks. Feb-Apr is generally rainy and adverse, but with major exceptions including the migration calving season in the Serengeti area of Tanzania and great low season prices in Botswana. Visitor traffic is generally quite low.

The year that we started to build great safaris

Start planning your Africa safari today

Recommended and endorsed by all the leading lodge owners in Africa

           True wilderness

Some safari areas are enormous wildernesses, whilst others are small fenced reserves. You will have to decide for yourself how important that is to your enjoyment.

           Private or public

Many of the best safari areas in Africa are private conservancies, where visitor numbers are very low and there should be no risk of vehicle traffic.

           Seasonality

It is critical that a safari be perfectly tuned to the seasonal patterns of weather, wildlife and visitor traffic. You can rely on us to be particularly obsessive about this issue.

           Small lodges

Most of the very best safari lodges have less than ten rooms, some less than five. When a lodge exceeds twenty rooms, alarm bells should really start to sound.

           Safari guiding

The quality of the safari guiding is critical your trip. A bad guide can drive past all the animals, a great guide can make an empty landscape entertaining.

          Ethos

The best safari operations are run by people who have dedicated their lives to conservation. If an operation feels to commercial, then you’ve taken a wrong turn.

Popular types of safari

Honeymoon safaris

There is no better and no more romantic honeymoon than a safari honeymoon. We have been helping guests to build awesome honeymoons for many years. We very much understand the importance of such a trip. We know that it needs to really reach the heights and to be a truly life-punctuating experience.

Family safaris

An African safari should be one of the most wonderful things that your family will ever do, on so many levels. The deep sense of adventure, coupled with a wide range of unforgettable experiences, enriches the memory bank like no other type of trip. Our experts have a great deal of experience of creating truly remarkable family safaris for a very wide range of tastes and budgets.

Luxury safaris

If your dream safari involves beautifully designed lodges, wonderful food and elegant service, then there’s a very wide range of lodges in Africa from which to choose. Usually, higher levels of luxury also imply higher prices, but this is not necessarily the case. There are some very well-priced options in parts of South Africa in particular.

Adventure safaris

If you are more focused on the intensity of the experience, then that’s no problem. We can dial up the heat on a safari as high as you wish. Most commonly this means simpler stripped-down camps and raw experiences such as approaching lions and elephants on foot. Some of our safari experts are particularly experienced in this kind of thing. They delight in putting together trips that go far beyond the usual envelope.

Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls are very conveniently combined with the safari areas of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe.  There are even direct flight connections with the Kruger area of South Africa.

Cape Town, the Whale Coast and the Cape Winelands are extremely beautiful and ridiculously good value. Adding them to a safari can really help keep a lid on the total cost of a trip.

Madagascar is a vast place that really needs a bare minimum of ten nights to even scrape the surface. It therefore tends to be combined with safari on the mainland in trips of three or more weeks.

What makes a good safari in Africa

There are certain key traits which betray the quality of a safari. Here are a few things to look out for when making your deliberations …

Accommodation

Budget:  You can find a variety of hostels and budget hotels for 185-550 ZMW per night. Enjoy hot showers, dorms or private rooms, shared kitchens, and nearby restaurants and shopping areas. Staff can sometimes help you out with finding good deals on local safaris or for general travel advice.

Mid-Range:  For mid-range hotels, expect to pay around 660-1,800 ZMW per night. Amenities include rooms with flat-screen TVs and tea/coffee facilities, an outdoor pool with a lounge area, free breakfast, and a hotel restaurant and bar.

High-End:  For five-star hotels, you will pay around 2,000-3,300 ZMW per night. These hotels come with private suites with terraces and living rooms, spa services, an outdoor pool with a poolside bar, a fitness center, multiple hotel restaurants, a polished bar, and room service.

Staples of Zambian cuisine include nshima (pounded white maize), vegetables, stews, fish, insects (especially caterpillars), and beer. Nshima is one of the most common items at any meal and is sometimes a meal itself with vegetables and meat or fish added to it. If you are near a market and want a treat, look for vitumbuwa (fried dough balls). Plan to spend around 160 ZMW per day on food.

The Best Ways to Get Around Zambia

Getting to zambia:.

Flights:  The main airport to fly into is the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, located 16 miles from the capital of Lusaka. Other airports include the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone, though it mainly takes African and British flights. You can check for the best flights to Zambia on  Skyscanner .

Transportation:

Buses:  Public buses are a cheap way to get around towns, though rides may be bumpy. Fares will cost about 40 ZMW. You can also look for private buses that go between major destinations (such as Lusaka to Livingstone for 120 ZMW) and are generally smoother rides. It is best to book at least one day in advance.

Taxis:  Taxis are not metered, so make sure to check around to see what a fair price is. Licensed taxis will have the word “taxi” on the top of the vehicle with two stripes.

Car Rental:  You might be able to find some cars, but driving is not as recommended if you do not know the roads. Many rental companies will not lend you a car if you do not have a chauffeur with you. It is best if you have transportation already provided for you, such as with a safari company. If you insist on a car, it can cost 4,750 ZMW per day.

Uber:  There is no Uber, but there is Ulendo, a taxi app which operates similarly to Uber.

When to go To Zambia

The best time to go to Zambia is between the months of June and November. During this time, it is the dry season, temperatures are in the 80s to low 90s, and you have the best chance of seeing the most wildlife.

However, if you are an avid birdwatcher, March will give you great opportunities to see the most birds, though know that it is still the wet season.

Where to Stay in Zambia

Taj Pamodzi, Lusaka:  Just a short trip to the Lusaka National Museum and the Kabwata Cultural Village, this is a great four-star hotel in Lusaka. Choose from a variety of rooms (standard rooms with flat-screen TVs and balconies to suites to whirlpool tubs and dining areas), and enjoy the numerous hotel amenities, including free breakfast, a squash court, a gym, an outdoor pool and hot tub, a hotel restaurant with a café and bar, a steam room, and a sauna.

Victoria Falls Waterfront :  Stay just 5.5 miles from Victoria Falls at this hotel. Set on the Zambezi River, see the river from your hotel room while enjoying two outdoor pools, a riverside hotel and restaurant, a sauna, spa services, a fitness center, and a shuttle to Victoria Falls Airport.

Zikomo Safari Camp :  If you’re heading to South Luangwa National Park, stay at this all-inclusive camp. Across the river from the National Park, stay in a chalet with a bathroom, electric fan, mosquito net, and a private deck. Activities include safari walks and tours of the South Luangwa National Park, as well as tours to the local village and nearby island.

Check out our favorite booking platforms  Booking.com ,  Tripadvisor  and  VRBO for the best deals on accommodation.

What to Pack for Zambia

Zambia has a tropical climate modified by altitude (elevation).

It has a dry season from May to the end of October and a wet season from November to April.

During the wet season, some areas become inaccessible and many camps in Kafue, Lower Zambezi, and more remote parks are closed.

The dry season is divided into the cool dry season (May to August) and the hot dry season (September and October).

  • Waterproof bag  – the bag has two functions, protecting your stuff from the rain and also from the dust, especially if you’re traveling to drier regions.
  • Footwear  – especially important if going you are heading on a safari! Pack a pair of lightweight, durable, waterproof and comfortable shoes and also a pair of flip-flops or sandals that you can change into after a long day of sightseeing.
  • Protection from the elements – pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a loose sarong or wrap to cover yourself from the sun and bug-spray to prevent getting bitten by a mosquito (that might have malaria!)
  • Layers – pack the basic tropical clothes and make sure to include long pants, long-sleeve tops and some warm clothes for those chilly nights.
  • Avoid packing dark colored clothes  – tsetse flies are drawn to dark colors, like blue and black clothing, and their bite can give you African Sleeping Sickness. Stick to light, neutral colors but avoid packing white clothes as they will get dirty and dusty pretty quickly.
  • Pack for Humidity  – for humid weather it is best to pack fabrics that breathe as much as possible and natural fabrics, like cotton, linen or rayon (avoiding silk, wool and polyester). Clothing should be loose and comfortable to encourage the flow of air and allow moisture to evaporate

5 Best Safari Tours In Zambia, Africa

africa travel resource zambia

  • Activities and Interests
  • Destinations
  • Outdoor Activities

Zambia has been my home for over 30 years and one of the things I love most about the country is its amazing safari destinations. With its pristine landscapes, diverse wildlife, and exceptional conservation efforts, Zambia has emerged as one of Africa’s best safari spots. Whether you’re looking for the Big Five or just seeking the unspoiled African wilderness, Zambia has it all.

Let’s head on an adventure together, through the heart of Africa, and explore five of the country’s top safari destinations. Prepare to be captivated by the beauty of Zambia.

1. Lower Zambezi National Park

Game drives, fishing, and canoeing .

The Lower Zambezi National Park is one of Africa’s greatest wildernesses featuring 2,542 square miles of unspoilt nature. With no paved roads, it’s rare to encounter another safari vehicle, and night time here is all about sitting out by the fire, under a sky full of stars.

The Zambezi, Africa’s fourth longest river, forms the boundary of the Lower Zambezi National Park.  The area is an incredible wildlife sanctuary — herds of elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and over 400 different bird species. Most of the wildlife is concentrated along the river, so a great way to experience the park is to board a boat, or drift silently past the riverbank in a canoe. You’ll see plenty of hippos peeking curiously above the water’s surface. Look out for the magnificent carmine bee-eaters who nest in the riverbanks from September to November. The river is also home to the coveted tiger fish — highly prized by serious sport fishermen.

Where To Stay: Sausage Tree Camp is the epitome of bush chic, set in a stunning location along the Zambezi River right in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable; the rooms are well designed, opening onto private plunge pools that overlook the river; and the cocktails are so good you may never want to leave!

Giraffes in South Luangwa National Park

2. South Luangwa National Park

Game drives.

The 3,500-square-mile South Luangwa National Park is renowned as one of Africa’s greatest wildlife destinations, with 60 animal species and over 450 different species of bird. Often referred to as “The Valley of Leopards,” the main predators here are leopard, lion, spotted hyena, and wild dog — with the leopard population among the densest in the world. Expect to see large herds of elephants, sometimes up to 70 strong. South Luangwa is also home to the endemic Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest, and the near-endemic Crawshay’s zebra.

The best way to see South Luangwa’s wildlife is on a morning or afternoon game drive from your lodge. Expect early wake-ups as most morning drives set off at around 6 a.m. You’ll return to camp for a middle-of-the-day siesta and then head out again in the afternoon; the animals are more active at these cooler times of day.

Where To Stay: Shawa Luangwa is a small, eco-friendly bush camp overlooking the Luangwa River in one of the park’s most untouched areas with excellent year-round game viewing.

3. North Luangwa National Park

Walking safaris.

The remote, 2,880-square-mile North Luangwa National Park is synonymous with walking safaris. The beauty of this park is the opportunity to experience Africa as it once was — wild and untouched. No game drives are permitted in a majority of the park and access is primarily for walking safaris. You’ll leave the four-by-four game-drive vehicle at camp and set out on foot with your guide and an armed park ranger. You’ll walk among elephants, antelope, zebras, and even the occasional predator, always maintaining a safe distance from the magnificent wildlife. In addition to strong populations of buffalo and elephants, there’s a number of black rhinos, making it the only Big Five park in Zambia.

Where To Stay: Remote Africa Safaris operate two camps that specialize in guided walking safaris. For the more adventurous, the Samala and Ituba Community Camps offer self-catering, and for the intrepid, there’s the Amatololo Experience , a self-drive camping route.

The bats at Kasanka National Park

4. Kasanka National Park

Bats and beyond.

Kasanka National Park is one of Zambia’s smallest national parks. But it’s one of the country’s hidden treasures and has an incredible 480 bird species and 114 mammals; there is a lot for you to see.

Kasanka is best known as home to the annual migration of straw-colored fruit bats — the largest bat migration in the world and, in fact, the world’s largest mammal migration. From October to December each year, about 10 million bats descend on a tiny patch of forest in the park. They migrate from thousands of miles away, some from as far away as West Africa. The migration is one of the natural world’s best-kept secrets; even scientists don’t know exactly where the bats come from or where they go when they leave the park.

Beyond the bats, Kasanka gives you excellent opportunities to find and photograph one of Africa’s rarer antelopes, the shy, secretive, and semi-aquatic sitatunga. The park is home to more than 500 of them, making it Africa’s densest and most visible population of sitatunga! The elusive blue monkey and the little-known Kinda baboon also call Kasanka home. It’s unlikely you’ll encounter either of these species anywhere else in southern Africa.

Where To Stay: Kasanka has two basic lodges — Wasa and Luombwa — and a seasonal self-catering tented camp.

5. Liuwa Plain National Park

Wildebeest migration.

The 2,274-square-mile Liuwa Plains National Park in Zambia was once the traditional hunting ground of the Litunga (King) of the Lozi people. Liuwa Plain is home to the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa but yet it’s hardly known. Each year in November, with the start of the rainy season, massive herds of blue wildebeest, 45,000 strong, migrate to Liuwa Plains, often mingling with zebras along the way. It’s an incredible sight to witness.

Other unusual antelope found here include oribi, red lechwe, steenbok, duiker, tsessebe, and roan. Predators include wild dogs, lions, and hyenas. The bird life is abundant and the dramatic lightning and storms at the start of the rains make for spectacular views and fantastic photography opportunities.

Where To Stay: King Lewanika is the only permanent camp in Liuwa Plain National Park. It has six stylish, open-front safari tents that are the epitome of luxury.

As a safari destination, Zambia is one of Africa’s best-kept secrets — an amazing, game-rich, unspoilt destination. On safari in Zambia, you’ll get a taste of the real Africa: wild and untamed.

REVIEWS FROM OUR CLIENTS

This was an inspiring trip. I particularly enjoyed the walking part of the safari, which really gives you a taste of life in the African bush. The national park we visited is beautiful and remote and the accommodations are charming and well run.
Having experienced many 4WD game drives, I have to admit that I’ve become a walking safari fan. It’s a whole different type of experience, much more intimate.
Fabulous trip. Our cook on the mobile portion of the safari was amazing. Excellent food everywhere and a great itinerary.
I had a superb trip—not only the itinerary, locations, and experiences, but the staff at all venues were truly outstanding. Also, Jason Alfonsi is a real gem, a polished diamond!
Every aspect of the trip was fantastic. I had not really given thought to the food prior to leaving but was totally wowed by the quality, variety, and service. Our chef was amazing!
Memories from the Zambia Walking Safari will last a lifetime for me. The wildlife, the terrain, the staff, the accommodations, and our guide Jason Alfonsi were all tremendous. I guess the best way to describe my experience is that I can’t wait to return. Wherever we go next, Wilderness Travel will be our first choice.

TRAVEL GUIDE

Located in southern Africa, Zambia is a destination that offers a wide range of experiences for travelers seeking adventure, culture, and natural beauty. Its wildlife parks and game reserves are home to some of Africa’s most iconic animals, including elephants, lions, giraffes, and hippos. Being voted as the safest country on the continent to visit, there is no wonder why thousands of people decide to visit every year.

Why Visit Zambia

Landscapes & nature.

Zambia is a country blessed with a diverse landscape and nature that is worth exploring. From the mighty Victoria Falls to the vast Kafue National Park, Zambia has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty.

Zambia offers the unique experience of the walking safaris, (and you can actually touch the animals!). Its Natural Reserves provide pristine sanctuary to a wide variety of wildlife, including the big five (although rhinos are really hard to find) Elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards and some rare and endemic species.

Just like everywhere else, the urban areas tend to have more safety issues than the rural areas. Still, Zambia was voted the safest country to visit in the African continent, its crime levels are similar to a European country. You should still be aware that the country has incredible high levels of poverty and common sense should prevail. Women should avoid going to bars alone, be careful about walking at night and don’t count to much on the police.

Zambia is also known for its stunning sunsets, which offer a perfect end to a day spent exploring the country’s natural wonders. Watching the sun go down over the Zambezi River or the vast plains of Kafue National Park is an unforgettable experience that visitors to Zambia should not miss.

What to expect

English is the official language of Zambia. In addition, the government of Zambia also recognizes 7 official regional languages and there are more than 70 different  languages and dialects spoken throughout the country. Even though english is not their mother tongue, almost everyone will speak or understand some English and most Zambians living in the urban centres speak it fluently.

ELECTRICITY

The standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. That’s the standard voltage in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of Asia and Africa; If you are traveling from the US you will need an adaptor

The Zambian Kwacha is the currency of Zambia, but USD are also widely accepted. 1 USD equals 17.74 zambian kwachas as of 2023. All the major credit cards companies are accepted as well. Most sizeable towns have ATMs that accept foreign cards. We recommend that you exchange some money anyway in case you wanna buy something from a small vendor. Changing your money to Kwacha is reasonably easy in the tourist centres of Lusaka and Livingstone and at your border entry

Zambia is generally a safe country to travel to, with low levels of crime. However, visitors should exercise caution, particularly in urban areas and at night. Petty theft and pickpocketing can occur, so it is important to keep valuables secure. Visitors should also take precautions against malaria and other tropical diseases, and ensure that they have adequate travel insurance.

Thanks to its landlocked and elevated positions,  Zambia features different seasons and climates depending on the region and the altitude where you go. Overall, the country has a tropical weather. There are two seasons, rainy season from November to April and dry season from May to October/November. The best time to go would be from June to November, in winter season, when the weather is dry and there is not rain, the wildlife watching is sensational and there is low malaria risk.

How to get around Zambia

In Zambia, there are several ways to get around, including:

  • Domestic flights: Zambia has several domestic airports, making air travel a convenient option for getting around the country.
  • Buses: There are several bus companies operating in Zambia, providing an affordable and convenient way to get around the country. Most buses run between major cities and towns, and some even offer sleeper options for overnight travel.
  • Taxis: Taxis are available in most towns and cities, and are a convenient option for short distances or when traveling with luggage.
  • Car rental: Renting a car is also an option in Zambia, although it is recommended to rent from a reputable company and have a valid international driver’s license.
  • Private transfers: Private transfers are available for those who prefer a more personalized and comfortable experience, and can be arranged through tour operators or hotels.

It is important to note that roads in Zambia can be in poor condition, especially in rural areas, and driving at night is not recommended due to limited lighting and potential safety risks. It is also advisable to use a trusted and registered taxi service for transportation at night.

Visa Policy

Zambia has a visa policy that requires most foreign nationals to obtain a visa prior to arrival, with a few exceptions. Visitors from countries such as Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and several others do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Visitors from countries not included in the list of visa-exempt countries must obtain a visa either from a Zambian embassy or consulate in their home country or through an online application. Single-entry visas are typically valid for up to 90 days, while multiple-entry visas may be valid for up to three years. It is important to note that visa requirements and fees can change at any time, so it is recommended to check with the Zambian embassy or consulate before traveling.

Alyson grew up in Zimbabwe and it was her parents who influenced her a great love of the African bush. It was not just a love of the wildlife but the plant and bird life and everything that is associated in the wild spaces of Africa.

Just got back from the most amazing Safari to South Luangwa & Lower Zambezi. After much research, talking with many agencies, I decided to use the company Africa Travel Resource. Clyde Beaty was my 'travel agent' and he was knowledgeable, honest, responsive, listened and we ended up with exactly the safari we wanted for a fraction of the cost the other companies had quoted me. The trip was amazing, perfect, flawless and it was exactly everything we wanted and more.

I highly recommend this company to anyone who is deciding on booking a safari. They are a first class company. I am so happy I decided to use Africa Travel Resource. It is important using an agency that has first hand experience with a safari. Clyde has so much knowledge of Africa since he had previously worked in the industry, and it was very evident by the trip he put together for our family.

Please feel free to ask me any questions. I normally do not write on these forums, but I felt that this company deserves to be written up!

When planning our safari I didn't even know if we wanted to go on an eastern safari or a southern safari, ATR took the time to explain the differences each had to offer, listened to what I wanted and thought our family would enjoy a southern safari more, so that is why posting this under southern safari came to mind.

I could have posted it under Zambia. I will also post under Zambia and be more detailed on our amazing trip & itinerary!

It is like posting a report on a holiday in Cost Rica in the USA forum!

On a technical basis you are correct but most people/companies refer to a safari as either an Eastern Safari or a Southern Safari and then break it down as which areas, and to what they have to offer, and what is best for the client. My agent did explain to me 'where' Zambia is located but writing this forum I felt it was easier to mention "Southern' since when you google 'Southern Safari', Zambia is grouped with this type of Safari.

I could be more specific but my 'main' reason for this post was to recommend the company that booked our trip.

africa travel resource zambia

It seems to be your only reason!

If you are just looking for the word "south" you may as well post it in "South" America! Allthough, that would be a different continent.

Like I said, You are both correct, valid point....as I said some people refer, who don't know Geography as well as you, to a safari as either a 'Southern' or 'Eastern'. Google it and see what you come up with!

Thanks for setting me straight.

As I said before, my point for this forum WAS only to refer the outstanding company that booked our trip.

At least now though,we all know where Zambia is located, I quoted the wrong information and you set it straight. Thanks for the 'correct' information.

Klaus, (owner of Hazyview lodge)

One last comment...when you own a lodge in Zambia it is much easier to correct me as to the exact location in 'Africa'. It would be far more difficult if you were visiting the USA if I asked you where it is located!!

Thanks again for correcting me.

I would have to cross 2 borders, first into Zimbabwe and then into Zambia to drive app. 1800 km (app. 1120 miles) to Lower Zambezi NP.
