Central England Co-operative have confirmed the date when their supermarket in Glenfield will shut.

They announced that the store would close last month.

It is situated in Station Road and has a petrol station and a Post Office inside the premises.

Despite the closure there are no planned redundancies, with Morrisons set to take over the site.

An original statement from a spokesman for the Central England Co-op said: "The society can confirm that it has entered into an agreement with Morrisons to sell its supermarket in Station Road, Glenfield."

The spokesman then confirmed today (January 3) that the store will close on the January 25.

He said: "We can confirm that the last day of trading at our Glenfield store will be Saturday, 25 January after previously announcing that we entered into an agreement with Morrisons to sell the site in Station Road.

“We would like to thank all staff for their commitment and dedication during their time with the Society.

"Staff are being transferred across as part of the sale, with colleagues retaining existing terms and conditions under Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE) legislation.

“Despite the sale of our store in Glenfield, Central England Co-operative remains committed to Leicestershire and is planning several new stores and refurbishments to ensure our members and customers continue to be served.”

The Post Office within the current Co-op is also set to close however a Post Office spokeswoman said that the company are looking for an alternative unit to replace the closing one.

She said: "Any retailer interested in incorporating a Post Office in their premises should email [email protected] or 0333 345 5560, then select option 2. The vacancy will soon be advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk.”
