Luc was the best tour guide ever. He kept our group on time and informed. Every stop was interesting, and the hotels and lodges were very good.
My husband and I did the tour of the Martimes in Nova Scotia. It was beautiful country. Our tour guide, Louise, was fantastic. She is so kind and caring; she is an amazing safe driver. She's always there for you. The only thing I didn't like about the trip was the motel in Baddeck. It was so old; musty smelling. Needs a total renovation. Everything about it was pretty awful. No-one on the trip was happy with this hotel. Other than that, we did enjoy the rest of the trip. the other hotels were fine. The Picnic Louise arranged was a lot of fun and the hike was awesome on the Cabot trail.

Great trip (our guide, Daniel and driver, Randy were fantastic)!

The wonders of the Bay of Fundy tour was the best tour I’ve ever been on. We were a small group who enjoyed each other’s company and shared many varied and interesting experiences. As a solo traveler I was welcomed by everyone in the group and never felt on my own. Our tour director, Eunice, was welcoming, knowledgeable and went the extra mile to ensure we really experienced the local culture and delicacies. Our coach driver, Hank, who was also welcoming and knowledgeable, had a quietly confident manner which made you feel extremely safe when on the road. He also went the extra mile to ensure we got the most out of every experience. I would highly recommend this tour.
Very interesting stops, great commentary, excellent bus & driver. I signed up to see the tidal bore, but found the historical stops to be just as interesting.

This was our 7th trip with Insight and this was a nice paced tour of the Maritimes. The tour director was excellent as well as the coach driver. As long as my wife and I can keep traveling we'll be going with Insight.

Trafalgar

  • Excellent - 1,881 reviews for Canadian Maritimes Provinces tours
Fantastic trip. Well organised and friendly, approachable staff. Was so easy to see so much more than we could have organised on our own. Met some lovely people. So much fun! Will definitely do a tour again and highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic tour guide, dexterous coach driver !!

Contiki

  • Excellent - 5,344 reviews for Canadian Maritimes Provinces tours
Please beware of this tour as many things are not included: Bike tour PEI didn’t happen Walking tour in Moncton and Halifax did not happen on our tour. And lastly please consider this as if I knew this before I would NOT have booked this trip. If you do not do the rafting “ as an optional activity” they literally don’t have anything else for you to do for three hours. Our tour guide went rafting and left the majority of the group behind. The driver was kind enough to drop as off at a mall to occupy our time. I did not pay that much money to sit in mall. I wanted to see the maritimes. Very disappointed in Contiki be
Very safe and well organized

Tours of Distinction

Tours of Distinction

  • Good - 38 reviews for Canadian Maritimes Provinces tours
We had a fine experience with the Tours of Distinction trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, which began and ended in Ellsworth, ME. The tour director, Julie, did an excellent job, the bus driver was pleasant and provided a safe trip, and the local guides with whom the tour contracted helped our group understand local history and culture. Especially helpful to me was learning about Acadian history: the Acadian roots in southern France, British expulsion of them from Atlantic Canada, and their eventual return to the Maritimes. The one piece of history I wish had been discussed more was that of the Gaelic settlers. Given the name of the province, Nova Scotia ("New Scotland"), it would have been helpful to hear more of their history in the area.
Positive: Angelina, the bus driver, made our trip. She was the best part, to be honest. Negative: Communication prior to the trip, not knowing what to expect in detail, food, the bus leaked, No OFFICIAL tour guide, and no wifi on the bus. All in all, we all enjoyed ourselves and made the best of it. However, I would not travel with this company again.

Check out Moscow’s NEW electric river trams (PHOTOS)

maritime travel bus

Water transportation has become another sector for the eco-friendly improvements the Moscow government is implementing. And it means business. On July 15, 2021, on the dock of Moscow’s ‘Zaryadye’ park, mayor Sergey Sobyanin was shown the first model of the upcoming river cruise boat.

maritime travel bus

The model of the electrical boat with panoramic windows measures 22 meters in length. The river tram - as Muscovites call them - has a passenger capacity of 42, including two disabled seats. The trams will also get cutting edge info panels, USB docking stations, Wi-Fi, spaces for scooters and bicycles, as well as chairs and desks for working on the go. The boats will be available all year round, according to ‘Mosgortrans’, the regional transport agency.

Passengers will be able to pay with their ‘Troika’ public transport card, credit cards or bank cards.

The main clientele targeted are people living in Moscow’s river districts - the upcoming trams will shorten their travel time in comparison to buses and other transportation by five times, Mosgortrans stated.

As the river trams are being rolled out, Moscow docks will also see mini-stations, some of which will also be outfitted with charging docks for speed-charging the boats.

Moscow is set to announce the start of the tender for construction and supply in September 2021. The first trams are scheduled to launch in June 2022 on two routes - from Kievskaya Station, through Moscow City, into Fili; and from ZIL to Pechatniki.

“Two full-scale routes will be created in 2022-2023, serviced by 20 river trams and a number of river stations. We’ll continue to develop them further if they prove to be popular with the citizens,” the Moscow mayor said .

Thousands of Mourners Attend Funeral of N.Y.P.D. Officer on Long Island

The killing of Officer Jonathan Diller, who was shot in the line of duty, has become a political flashpoint. Mayor Eric Adams and the police commissioner spoke at the services.

A large American flag is held up over a road as a funeral procession drives by.

By Hurubie Meko and Corey Kilgannon

Five days after New York City Police Officer Jonathan Diller was fatally shot in the line of duty , friends, family and colleagues gathered to remember him at a funeral on Saturday morning at a Catholic church on Long Island.

The funeral at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, like the two-day wake that preceded it, drew large crowds of law enforcement officers mourning a life cut short in a killing that has become a political flashpoint .

Before Officer Diller’s hearse arrived, the area in front of the church on Merrick Road was flooded with thousands of police officers from New York City and throughout the region. Children held signs in support of the police. An honor guard stood by as a lone bagpiper played at the church’s entrance and police helicopters buzzed overhead.

When the hearse arrived, it was led by hundreds of police motorcycles and a pipe and drum corps laying down a slow, solemn drumbeat. Uniformed officers carried the coffin into the church, past the honor guard and Officer Diller’s family.

His wife, Stephanie Diller, held their 1-year-old son, Ryan, dressed in a small dark suit. The boy wiggled in her arms and looked around curiously at the silent mourners as the bagpiper played “Amazing Grace.”

Officer Diller’s coffin was set down at the front of the church near the center aisle.

As mourners — many in New York Police Department uniforms — filed into the church, top leaders of the department could be seen sitting in the front rows.

The service began with a prayer at around 11:30 a.m.

Mayor Eric Adams, a former police captain, spoke at the event, addressing Officer Diller’s family and the broader Police Department. A vast majority of New York City residents, he said, “share our vision” of holding criminals accountable and reducing gun violence.

“I am you,” he told the assembled officers. “I know what it’s like to don a bulletproof vest.”

Officer Diller died doing what “we asked him to do,” said Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban, who spoke after the mayor. Officer Diller made dozens of arrests in his three years of service and “quickly became one of our best,” Commissioner Caban said.

“His death will never be his legacy,” he said, shortly before announcing that Officer Diller had been posthumously promoted to detective first grade, with a shield number matching his son’s birth date.

Applause erupted in the church at the announcement.

Officer Diller, 31, graduated from the State University of New York Maritime College with a degree in marine transportation in 2014. He joined the Police Department in February 2021, and had been recognized three times for “excellent police duty” since then.

He typically worked tougher parts of the southeast section of Queens near Kennedy International Airport. He and a partner were on patrol in such an area on Monday when they pulled up to a car with two people inside that was parked illegally at a bus stop on Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway, the police said.

Officer Diller told the man in the passenger seat, Guy Rivera, 34, to get out of the car, the police said. Mr. Rivera refused, pulled out a gun and shot Officer Diller in a part of his body below his protective vest, the police said. Despite having been shot, he managed to disarm Mr. Rivera, the police said. Officer Diller was pronounced dead after being taken to Jamaica Hospital.

His partner, Officer Veckash Khedna, returned fire, striking Mr. Rivera, who survived and was charged on Thursday with first-degree murder. The man in the car’s driver seat at the time, Lindy Jones , 41, was charged with a number of gun crimes related to the shooting.

Mr. Rivera had been arrested nearly two dozen times before, mostly on drug-related and assault charges, officials said.

Mr. Rivera is being represented by lawyers from the Legal Aid Society, a nonprofit. On Saturday, a spokesman from the organization said that the lawyers had no comment.

Some people — particularly Republicans — have seized on the killing as emblematic of what they consider the lax laws and public safety policies promoted by New York Democrats.

The unions representing the city’s police officers had warned City Council members whom they view as unsupportive of law enforcement not to attend Officer Diller’s wake or funeral. Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association, spoke at the funeral on Saturday and offered the union’s support to Officer Diller’s family.

There was a glimpse of the politicization surrounding Officer Diller’s killing when reports emerged from at least one news outlet claiming that Gov. Kathy Hochul had been asked to leave the wake for the officer that she attended on Friday.

At an Easter-related event in Albany on Saturday, Ms. Hochul said that no one had told her to leave the wake. She said her team had asked Officer Diller’s family if she would be welcome to attend.

“I said prayers at the casket and it was very respectful,” she said.

Former President Donald J. Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in this year’s presidential race, is among those who have denounced progressive policies as fomenting crime in New York City and elsewhere, even as data show crime declining across the United States.

Through March 24, reports of major crimes in the city — which include murder, felony assault and rape — are down by about 2 percent compared with the same time last year, according to police data.

Mr. Trump attended the wake for Officer Diller on Thursday and told reporters that the country needed to “get back to law and order” and to crack down on violent crime. He called Mr. Adams to offer condolences for the officer’s death and was greeted at the wake by Commissioner Caban.

On Saturday, Ms. Diller eulogized her husband, who she said “was absolutely my soul mate.”

Officer Diller, the youngest of three children, was “the mischievous one,” she said.

“But he also had the sweetest heart,” she said. Ms. Diller said he used to make his mother handwritten apology letters.

Officer Diller grew up skiing, playing lacrosse and hockey, Ms. Diller said. The couple met after being set up by a friend, she said, and they married in 2019. They had a “pretty much perfect” and quiet life in Massapequa, she said, until five days ago “when everything changed forever.”

“Nothing compared to his best role of all, being a dad,” Ms. Diller added. “Jonathan always wanted to be a dad and he wasted no time being the greatest one.”

After the service, six officers carried Officer Diller’s coffin to a hearse outside the church as thousands of uniformed officers stood at attention along Merrick Road.

A drum corps slowly led the hearse away, playing a somber rhythmic beat.

BYD and other Chinese manufacturers will take on Europe, and should be viewed just as seriously as Tesla due to their ‘good battery technology’, says Scania CEO

Christian Levin, chief executive officer of Scania AB

After pushing into Europe with their electric cars, Chinese manufacturers such as BYD Co. are expected to target another piece of the market: Big rigs.

One of Europe’s top truckmakers warned that the roughly 25 Chinese truck and bus manufacturers building a presence in the region should be taken just as seriously as Tesla Inc. because of their expertise in batteries and software.

Chinese e-bus brands “managed to establish themselves in a fairly short time, largely thanks to their access to very good battery technology,” Christian Levin, who heads Volkswagen AG’s Scania and Traton, said in an interview. “If you extrapolate and look at trucks, you can imagine a similar development.”

Scania, Volvo and Daimler Truck are offering electric rigs, but their success selling them  remains limited , even as Europe is pushing to curb transport emissions. BYD has built know-how and scale on the back of its rapidly expanding passenger-car businesses and is transferring some of those capabilities to  battery-powered trucks . The maker of the  8TT  heavy-duty rig has  sold  e-buses in markets such as Germany and  plans  to build an EV factory in Hungary. Other Chinese companies expanding in Europe include Yutong, Sany and JAC Motors.

While Levin anticipates tougher competition at home, Scania is setting up its own plant in China to benefit from growth in the world’s biggest truck market. Its facility under construction in Rugao in Jiangsu province, due to start operating in late 2025, has a license to produce as many as 50,000 vehicles annually, roughly half the Swedish brand’s current output. Scania hasn’t yet decided which models will be built there.

Scania is a premium brand with typically double-digit margins and most of its deliveries in Europe. Setting up shop in China will cut production costs and solve a capacity problem that lost the company business in the Asian country due to long delivery times, Levin said.

The move will also help Scania tap into China’s technology expertise, either by hiring skilled workers or potentially buying software startups specializing in human-to-machine interfaces or voice recognition, the CEO said. The market also is a good starting place to sell elsewhere in Asia.

“China is where the sub-suppliers are, where the home market is and with fine trade agreements with most of the surrounding countries.” Levin said. “It is easy to export out of China.”

Scania is catching up in China. Daimler Truck has been manufacturing Mercedes-Benz rigs in the country with local partner Foton Motor  since 2022 . While Volvo late last year canceled plans to buy Chinese truckmaker JMC Heavy Duty Vehicle, it’s building buses, engines and construction equipment in China and has joint ventures with local truckmaker  Dongfeng Trucks  and SDLG, a maker of construction equipment.

Scania will be running its factory without a Chinese partner, giving the Sweden-based brand full control over manufacturing processes and its intellectual property.

“In the current economic and political environment, companies that are initiating industrial operations in China are taking bold steps,” said Roman Mathyssek, a partner at strategy consultancy Monitor Deloitte. “For those that missed M&A opportunities in the region, participating in the Asia growth story with market entries out of their brand portfolio is a good strategic solution.”
