Food is the top priority to Taiwanese people in their daily lives. It is said that, on any street in Taiwan, if you walk three steps, there is a small food shop. Upon walking five steps, you shall bump into a restaurant. All kinds of regional food, from southern to northern, is served here. And other than traditional food, modern fast food is also available. This has made culinary culture in Taiwan highly diverse. Also, because Taiwan is where the world’s cultures converge, today, food from all corners of the globe can be found here - American, Italian, Japanese, and European food. Taiwan is truly gourmands’ heaven. World-famous, the food of Taiwan gives every visitor an indelible impression.

In 1978, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau first set foot in Singapore. Fast forward to 40 years, the bureau celebrates a historic milestone.

“Must Ki Taiwan, Don’t Say Bojio” is the name of the online contest Taiwan Tourism Bureau rolled out last November. In order to win, aspiring entries must present a dream travel itinerary in Taiwan. Together with China Airlines, the bureau announced a pair of return tickets to Taiwan for the grand winner. It’s a gesture of gratitude and appreciation to Singaporeans throughout the decades.

Mr. Tung Kok Kiong sent the winning itinerary that even included Taiwan’s transport system. It clearly stood out from the usual itineraries and recommendations from all the other entries.

“I strongly urge Singaporeans to explore the many different parts of Taiwan, such as Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien…” said Mr. Tung after claiming his prize. “I have been to Taiwan many times and every time I visit the country, I always feel the warm welcome by the people,” he added.

In response to Mr. Tung’s thoughts, Dr. Trust Lin, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau Singapore office, mentioned that the focus of Taiwan Tourism for 2019 would be exploring small indigenous towns across Taiwan. These include Miao Li Nanzhuang, Kaoshiung Meinong, which has rich Hakka culture, as well as Hualien Fenglin that houses the Shinguang Chaofong Recreation Farm.

Moreover, the bureau is setting its sights on promoting Taiwan’s magnificent mountains. The country has a unique geographical advantage with 268 mountain peaks standing at over 3,000 meters tall that allow many locals to take part in mountain climbing as a leisure activity.

Taiwan is among the top travel destinations of tourists coming from Singapore and the visitorship has seen 420,000 in 2017.

Slovenian Tourism Boosts with New Projects & AI Tools

Posted by Chisa de Ruiter | Jun 13, 2024 | Europe | 0 |

Slovenian Tourism Boosts with New Projects & AI Tools

By staying at the forefront of marketing strategies, the Slovenian Tourist Board ensures that the country’s unique attractions are presented in the most engaging and appealing manner possible. The most recent projects to boost  Slovenia’s  visibility include three new projects:  Sounds Like Slovenia , a series of audio stories,  an AI-powered virtual assistant  named Alma on slovenia.info and  the “ Slovenia  – Sports Destination” website .

Meet Alma, an AI-powered virtual assistant

Alma, named after the adventurous traveller and writer  Alma M. Karlin , operates using advanced AI technology, filtering content to suit user interests. She sources reliable information from the slovenia.info database and over 50 verified websites of Slovenian tourist destinations and providers. As one of the first AI assistants in Slovenian tourism, and among the few AI assistants integrated in national tourism organizations’ websites in  Europe , Alma positions slovenia.info as a reliable source of information and inspiration for international visitors.

Slovenia  – Sports Destination Website

The Slovenia–Sports Destination  website serves as a comprehensive resource for organizing sports activities and events, conferences, rehabilitation and inspiration, available  in both Slovenian and English . Sports agencies, clubs, and event organizers can use the portal to connect directly with relevant partners in  Slovenia . The website also provides direct contacts for specialized sports agencies and federations, assisting with the organization of preparatory matches and other logistical needs. Information on sports accommodations is also available.

Sounds Like Slovenia

Thematic playlists on Spotify  and sound stories on slovenia.info provide an immersive audio experience of  Slovenia’s  landscapes and cultural offerings. Themes are categorized into  five categories : the Sounds of Nature, Thrilling Outdoor Adventures, Cities and Culture, Health and Well-Being, and Gastronomy. Crafted for the global digital campaign, the audio list aims to captivate travelers worldwide.

Together, these projects demonstrate Slovenia’s  dedication to innovation and sustainability  in tourism, offering visitors unforgettable experiences in this vibrant European destination with a green heart.

Faster clearance for Singaporeans visiting Taiwan with access to airport e-gates

taiwan tourism board sg

SINGAPORE – Singapore passport holders visiting Taiwan will from Thursday be allowed to use the e-gates at the island’s airports for speedier immigration clearance, said Taiwan’s Interior Ministry.

Travellers will first have to register at the immigration counters with their passports and have photos of their faces taken and fingerprints recorded.

According to Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency, Singapore is the sixth country – after the United States, South Korea, Australia, Italy and Germany – whose citizens will be allowed to use the e-gates at immigration.

Previously, the e-gates could be used only by Taiwan passport holders and foreigners who hold residency status on the island.

Taiwan’s Deputy Interior Minister Wu Jung-hui said on Thursday that Singaporeans aged 12 and above who are at least 140cm tall, holding biometric passports with at least six months’ validity and have no prior criminal convictions on the island will be allowed to use the e-gates.

A ceremony to mark the start of this privilege for Singaporean travellers was held on Thursday evening in Taipei. Mr Yip Wei Kiat, the Trade Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei, attended the event.

Mr Wu said this latest move reciprocates Singapore’s decision to extend usage of its automated immigration lanes to Taiwan passport holders in April – the island is now one of 51 jurisdictions whose passport holders are granted this access.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said in April that it aims to make automated immigration clearance the norm at the country’s airport and land checkpoints.

It expects 95 per cent of all arrivals at Singapore Changi Airport to be cleared through the automated lanes by the first quarter of 2024.

Taiwan is a popular tourist destination for travellers from Singapore, with 460,000 registered visitors to the island in 2019, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in Singapore, almost 160,000 Singaporeans visited Taiwan from January to May 2023, more than 90 per cent of the pre-pandemic figures in 2019.

In terms of the number of travellers from South-east Asia visiting Taiwan, Singaporeans are the fourth-largest group, after those from Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
