Exactly What I Meant to Say

Shadow: Scourge. Get to your feet and I'll kill you. Sonic: [coughs] Shads... it's "or". Or I'll kill you. Shadow: I KNOW WHAT I SAID! — Prison Island Break

The verbal equivalent of Exactly What I Aimed At , this is when a character deliberately says one thing, and is mistaken for having meant to say another thing. Cue another character wrongfully "correcting" them.

Often used as a rebuttal to I Heard That and I'm Standing Right Here by more shameless characters towards their insultee.

    open/close all folders

  • Anna Russell , "How to Write Your Own Gilbert and Sullivan Opera": "As you know, you always have to start with a homogenous chorus. I know a lot of people are going to say that isn't homogenous, that's homogeneous. But that isn't what I mean: I mean homogenous, as in milk."
  • In Batman : Legends of the Dark Knight #128 (collected in The Ring , the Arrow and the Bat ), the Goo-Goo-Godlike religious leader of a Fictional Country tells a treacherous general that he will be "safed". The general corrects his pronunciation of "saved", but the boy insists that's what he meant. Five minutes later, the general is hit by a falling safe.
  • Used in one of the moments of Black Comedy in Dark Fic Prison Island Break by the psychotically angry Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow: Scourge. Get to your feet and I'll kill you. Sonic: [coughs] Shads... it's "or". Or I'll kill you. Shadow: I KNOW WHAT I SAID!
  • In The AFR Universe story "Boys and Queens", Ryuji and Haru are texting each other. When Haru recounts the time she was punched by their ally Makoto while she was Brainwashed and Crazy , she recalls how painful and terrifying it was and says she would wish that on her worst enemy. Ryuji: You mean "wouldn't" wish it on your worst enemy, right? Haru: That was not a typo, Ryuji-kun.
  • Past Sins : At the end, when talking about Spell Nexus, calling him a drama queen instead of a drama king: [Spell Nexus] can be such a drama queen at times.” “Don’t you mean ‘king’?” “No, queen,” Celestia corrected with a small grin. “Don’t tell anypony else, but he has a very high-pitched scream.”
  • In Iron Man 3 , after Tony reboots JARVIS, JARVIS reports that "I seem to do quite well for a stretch and then at the end of the sentence I say the wrong cranberry." As a result, when he tells Tony a few minutes later that the Mandarin is in Miami as opposed to somewhere more exotic, Tony has trouble believing him. But no, he actually did mean Miami.
  • "I had a box of sordid chocolates the other day." "Don't you mean assorted?" "No, they were all the same, and absolutely vile."
  • In the novel Freaky Friday , Annabel's friend Boris has problems breathing through his nose, and when he offers to "bake a beetloaf" for dinner, she assumes he means "make a meatloaf". He doesn't. (Also, his name is actually Morris, but that's a case of Annabel failing to correct for his pronunciation.)
  • In " The Singing Bell " by Isaac Asimov , a police officer claims that he cannot prove the suspect's guilt because he has no alibi. Not because he has one, but because he doesn't. A document or witness can be suspected of being false, but when a person is simply known to live in complete isolation for a month every year, what reason is there to assume this year was different?
  • In Jingo , Sergeant Colon, Corporal Nobbs, Leonard of Quirm and Lord Vetinari are flying across Klatch on a flying carpet. Colon is not happy with this: Colon: It's not natural, just a bit of broadloom between you and certain splash. Vetinari: We're not over water, sergeant. Colon: I know what I meant, sir!
  • Mr. Rumbold from Are You Being Served? would sometimes get the wrong idea of a word. For example the sales staff had the verb "to knee" meaning "press one's knee in the armhole of a suit to loosen a few threads so as to make it fit the customer better." Thus creating this exchange: Mr. Lucas: You see, it was like this, you see, Sir. Erm, Mr. Humphries kneed the jacket. Mr. Rumbold: Ah! You mean, Mr. Humphries needed the jacket. Let's get our tenses right . Mr. Humphries: No, no, you don't understand, Sir. You see, I kneed the jacket. Mr. Rumbold: You need it now? Mr. Humphries: No, I kneed it then. Mr. Rumbold: You mean, you needed it then. Captain Peacock: If I might clarify the situation, Sir. Mr. Rumbold: Thank you, Captain Peacock. It does seem to have got rather out of hand. Captain Peacock: Yes. It's a matter of spelling, Sir. Mr. Rumbold: Spelling? Captain Peacock: Yes Sir. You spelled kneed with an N. Mr. Humphries was using a K. Mr. Rumbold: Oh, you mean like kneading dough? Is that it, Mr. Lucas? Mr. Lucas: Yes, that's it . I needed the dough, but he didn't want the jacket because it was too tight. Mr. Rumbold: So you kneaded it to make it more supple, which was why you needed the jacket, you may recall Captain Peacock. That is what I said in the first place. Captain Peacock: Nearly right, Sir, yes. But what they're trying to explain, Sir, is that, erm... and coming from Hardware, you would not be aware of this, but there is a method used, and I disapprove of it myself, Sir. There is a method used to enlarge the arm holes of jackets, and the method used is to knee the jacket... with a K. Mr. Rumbold: I am aware of how you spell jacket , Captain Peacock.
  • In Green Acres ("It's Human to Be Humane"), Lisa asks Oliver to play "Scribble, Cabbage, or Monotony", and he assumes it's one of her malapropisms Later, Mr. Drucker tries to sell him those same games , which apparently do exist in Hooterville .
  • There is a sketch involving a man who cannot pronounce the letter 'C' (his 'C's coming out as 'B's) that includes this exchange: Tourist: Yes I'm sorry I can't say the letter 'B' Bounder: C? Tourist: Yes that's right. It's all due to a trauma I suffered when I was a sboolboy. I was attacked by a bat. Bounder: A cat? Tourist: No, a bat.
  • Another Monty Python example is a sketch about a person who sometimes ends his sentences with the wrong fusebox. Burrows: It's so embarrassing when my wife and I go to an orgy. Thripshaw: A party? Burrows: No, an orgy. We live in Esher. Thripshaw: Quite.
  • Dramatic version in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Deadly Years", when Kirk, whose forced, space-disease-imposed aging had imposed progressive senility, returns to the bridge supposedly all better; then he orders Uhura to send a message in a code Uhura knows to be compromised, a fact of which Uhura has had to remind Kirk earlier in the episode, much to his chagrin. But when she questions him this time, Kirk affirms that he meant what he had said. He then dictates a message that he actually wants the enemy to hear.
  • A harsh but funny version on The Office (US) : Kelly: I want a June wedding. I've always wanted one. Ryan, do you know when you would want to get married? Ryan: Actually, I don't see myself ever getting married. Kelly: Oh. Pam: Ryan, you should be more sensitive. It's obvious she likes you and comments like that, they just... Ryan: I know what I said.
  • Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation rephrases himself to his server before he can fall victim to this trope: Ron Swanson: Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait! Wait. I worry what you just heard was, "give me a lot of bacon and eggs." What I said was, give me all... the bacon and eggs... you have . Do you understand?
  • Happens in the first season of Modern Family when Claire was revealed to have insulted Gloria. Gloria, whose native language is Spanish, says Claire can make up for it by jumping in the pool. Claire assumes she means the expression "go jump in a lake", but Gloria meant exactly what she said: she wanted Claire to jump in the pool with her clothes on, embarrassing herself like Gloria had been embarrassed.
  • In The Order of the Stick , during Roy's duel with Thog in the arena: Roy: I don't care how strong you are, thug. Thog: thog's name is thog. Roy: I didn't misspeak.
  • In the Dragon Ball Z Abridged movie "Cooler 2: the Return of Cooler's Revenge - The Rekoning", the Z Fighters are confronted by Cooler once again, whom Goku still mistakes for Freeza. Goku: So, you return once again, Freezer. Gohan: Cooler. Goku: Cooler. Cooler: Yes, I have returned, dumbass. Goku: Goku. Cooler: Dumbass.
  • Sword Art Online Abridged has an exchange when a roleplaying Leafa introduces herself to a Spriggan she just met. Leafa: My name is Princess Leafa, heir to the throne of Sylvain, pleased to make my acquaintance! Kirito: Don't you mean "your?" Leafa: I know what I said. ...Well? Bow!
  • From The Simpsons : Bart: Because I like you, I'll even do it pro-boner. Skinner: You mean, "pro bono". Bart: I know what I said.
  • From an episode: Colonel K: Danger Mouse! Wales is being devastated by a giant fire-breathing dragon! Penfold: No, no, Colonel, it's " whales are being devastated."
  • The villiains got in on that act too: Stiletto: I've given him his new destructions. Greenback: Don't you mean in structions? Stiletto: I know what I meant, Baroni.
  • When Brian checks out Quagmire’s RV before a trip: Brian: "Quagmire's Cross-Country Tour." Wait, isn't "country" supposed to have an "o" in it? Quagmire: Nope!
  • In another episode, Peter mentions that he’s looking forward to "phone sax" with Lois. No, he did not mean "phone sex".
  • From He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2021) : Beast Man: Give Beast Man the king in the cage and everyone gets hurt. Sorceress: Don't you mean, " no one gets hurt"? Beast Man: Beast Man wasn't negotiating! He was stating intent!
  • From Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo : Scrappy: Professor Spaulding, eh? I bet that's an alien! Velma: You mean an alias? Scrappy: Nope! I mean alien! Like in Star Creature!
  • From Rocky and Bullwinkle , Boris sounds like he's using his usual Poirot Speak pronunciation when he suggests they beat Bullwinkle with "stragedy," but: Natasha: You mean "strategy", darling. Boris: No, stragedy! I'm going to stretch the rope across the door and fasten the end to trigger on the shotgun, and when moose comes out the door, what is it? Both together: Is tragedy!
  • In The Fairly OddParents! episode "A Wish Too Far": Wanda: We're in Fairy Court, and Jorgen von Strangle is the persecutor! Timmy: Don’t you mean prosecutor? Wanda: No!
  • Real life: Tell someone that an anime was macekered and sometimes they'll say, "Don't you mean massacred?"
  • Stage critic George Jean Nathan belittled Tallulah Bankhead for her performance in what he called Queen of the Nil : "No 'e', please, Mr. Printer; don't make something out of nothing." note  "Nil" is Latin for "nothing."

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

2024 Tour of the Gila Stage Three Report

Stephens Increases Overall Lead, Stites Blasts Into Victory

Stephens Increases Overall Tour of the Gila Lead, Winning Tyrone Time Trial

Cynisca Cycling’s Lauren Stephens raced to victory in Tyrone for Stage 3 of the Tour of the Gila 2024. Having won on the same course in 2015, she improved her previous best time by 23 seconds. Her victory at the Tyrone Individual Time Trial also increased her lead on the General Classification by 2:01, ahead of Nadia Gontova on GC. The DNA Pro Cycling rider was fourth on the stage. Alia Shafi finished 51 seconds behind Stephens, clocking a time of 39:03; 23 seconds ahead of Cécile Lejeune, racing for the Steve Tilford Foundation, finishing with 33:26 in third.

“It was quite windy out there,” Stephens said after the finish. “It was a great ride; I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Emily Ehrlich had been the heavy favorite coming into the time trial, after winning the TT at the Redlands Bicycle Classic and two gold medals at the Pan American Track Championships. Speaking ahead of her

start, Ehrlich said, “I honestly feel it’s the best TT we have in the country. I’ve only done it once, obviously, but it’s my favorite. I really love it!”

Ehrlich started her TT strong, with her head down in the tight position she is accustomed to.

Unfortunately, the Virginia’s Blue Ridge Twenty24 rider crashed coming down the descent of the Little Burro on the way out. She was then forced to abandon the race due to injury. The team later confirmed Ehrlich suffered a broken collarbone and possibly other fractures and is “absolutely covered in road rash.” Ehrlich had been expected to win the stage; with Stephens admitting that once she had seen that Ehrlich had crashed, she had backed off her speed.

“I hope Emily is okay,” Stephens added. “I saw her when I came over the top of the climb, which reminded me to focus on safety first.”

Ehrlich was also expected to be a top contender at the Olympic trials in two weeks’ time. She has managed to send a message to the race organization, stating she is in good spirits, and doesn’t want people to worry about her. “She will be okay,” her team reassured.

At the end of the day, the GC saw a shake-up in the standings under Stephens and Nadia Gontova, who continue to sit in the top two spots. Alia Shafi moved into the top ten on GC, following her second-place finish for Fount Cycling Guild. Her teammate, Eleanor Wiseman, also moved up to fourth from tenth place as she heads into Saturday’s crit. PAS/Steve Tilford Foundation Racing’s Marcela Prieto slid down to fifth after finishing nineteenth on the stage. Cynisca Cycling’s Ashley Frye finished fourth, moving her into a podium position in third ahead of Saturday.

The UCI women race 27 laps at the Downtown Criterium presented by the Town of Silver City on Saturday starting at 1:30 MDT.

Stites Blasts Into Victory, Taking the Overall Lead at Tour of the Gila

At Tour of the Gila on Friday, Project Echelon’s Tyler Stites blasted through the finish, seizing the win with a time of 33:07 at the Tyrone Individual Time Trial presented by Freeport McMoran. He came close to the course record of 32:59 that was set by Levi Leipheimer in 2009. The current Pan Am Time Trial Champion, Walter Vargas, was second for Team Medellín, clocking a time of 33:18. Jonas Walton rounded the podium in third, finishing in 33:45 and moving into the lead of the Best Young Rider Classification.

Stites’s win marks the second stage win for the team at Tour of the Gila 2024, after winning four out of five stages at Redlands earlier this month. Stites takes over the GC with his victory with two stages

remaining. Team Medellín’s Wilmar Paredes had a tough day, finishing in 36:33 and sliding down to fourth on GC.

“It’s a tough course, the main goal was to win the stage and take the red which I accomplished,” Stites said. “I’m really happy about that. I definitely had my eye on the course record but came up short; it was a tough day out there. I was chasing Walter, which was my minute-man, so that was a good carrot to be chasing. I had him in sight so I had a good day.”

The 16.15-mile Individual Time Trial out-and-back course in Tyrone featured 1,188 feet (362 meters) of climbing. Straight out of the start house, the road pitches up for a Category 4 Little Burro climb, rapidly shifts into a fast descent passing the Freeport-McMoran Tyrone mine, the end of which signals the turn around to head back to the finish. Five miles before the finish, the Little Burro greets the riders again, this time descending at a gradient of 6-7% before streaming down into the finishing shoot.

Owen Wright of CS Velo Racing sat in the hot seat for most of the day, starting within the first 20 riders out of the start house. Wright clocked in at 34:02, enough to finish fifth. His teammate, Joshua Lebo, crossed the finish with his CS Velo team cheering him on, becoming the first rider to clock in under 34 minutes with 33:59 and ending up fourth on the stage.

The hot seat began to change rapidly once the final ten riders were coming in to the finish. Disappointment showed through the smile Vargas displayed as he talked about his performance. He had won the stage last year, and was hoping to defend his win, but still gave respect to Stites as he outshone him in Tyrone.

“This was a pretty demanding time trial, and the wind here is strong,” Vargas said. “I felt good and had good legs but Tyler [Stites] is also in very good form. I knew that he had won another race before Gila here in the United States, so he’s going very strong.”

Despite his loss on Friday, Vargas and Team Medellín look ahead to the final two stages, ready to battle for the GC.

“I’m sitting second on GC with two demanding stages to go, including the final that is a very, very hard stage,” Vargas said. “We hope to give everything and make it a good race on Sunday. Tomorrow, we have the crit, which is a fast and explosive one, so we will give it our all in these last two days.”

Stites won the Downtown Silver City Criterium in 2022, and expects the team to contest the sprint on Saturday before the final showdown Sunday. Important time bonuses will be available at the finish Saturday for the top three finishers, earning ten, six and four seconds respectively.

The pro men take the stage at 3:10 p.m. after a full day of amateur racing and following the pro women.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Kenya’s two-time world medallist Kipkemboi took second place in her only previous appearance at Campaccio in 2020 and finished third at the Boclassic in Bolzano on Saturday. Throughout her career she has demonstrated her versatility, clocking 8:21.53 in the 3000m, 14:27.12 in the 5000m, 29:50 in the 10km on the road, 30:10.07 in the 10,000m and 1:05:26 in the half marathon.

Kipkemboi will take on Eritrea’s Daniel, who won the Cross Country Tour races in Atapuerca in 2021 and Albufeira in 2022, and finished second in last year’s Campaccio behind Dawit Seyaum in an exciting final sprint. She topped the overall standings in the Cross Country Tour last year and finished fifth in the 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 with a national record of 30:12.15.

Nadia Battocletti leads the Italian challenge in the women’s race. The 22-year-old construction engineering student inherited a passion for cross country from her father Giuliano Battocletti and started her career by competing in the junior and youth races at Campaccio.

Battocletti won the fourth European cross country gold medal of her career and her second consecutive continental U23 title on the challenging course of the Mandria Park in Venaria Reale near Turin last December. On Friday she will be aiming to become the first Italian runner to reach a top-three spot at Campaccio since 2010.

So far this cross country season she has finished sixth in Atapuerca ahead of Yasemin Can and second in Alcobendas behind Lucy Maiwa. In her previous appearances at Campaccio, Battocletti placed sixth in 2022, and in 2018 and in 2019 when she was an U20 athlete.

Joining them on Friday will be Ethiopia’s Likina Amebaw, who finished second in Albufeira in 2022, and Francine Niyomokunzi from Burundi, who finished third at two cross country races at Vallagarina in Rovereto and Alcobendas in 2022, plus Miriam Chebet from Kenya, who finished fourth at the Cursa dels Nassos in Barcelona on Saturday.

Italy’s Anna Arnaudo finished sixth, contributing to her nation’s U23 team gold medal at the European Cross Country Championships in Fingal-Dublin in 2021, and won a European U23 team silver medal in Venaria Reale in December. The 22-year-old finished ninth at last year’s edition of Campaccio.

The other Italian athletes to watch are Federica Del Buono, who won mixed relay gold at the European Cross Country Championships in Venaria Reale and European indoor 1500m bronze in Prague in 2015, and Ludovica Cavalli, who won team U23 silver at the European Cross Country Championships in Venaria Reale.

In the men’s race, Burundi’s Kwizera will be aiming to win his fourth World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold race of the season after his victories in Alcobendas, Amorebieta and Venta de Banos, plus a second place finish in Seville. Kwizera topped the leaderboard at the end of last season’s Cross Country Tour thanks to his wins in Soria, Seville, Venta de Banos and Albufeira.

Another Burundian athlete in the line-up is Egide Ntakarutimana, who improved his PB in the 5000m to 13:08.43 at the Palio della Quercia in Rovereto last August.

They will face Uganda’s Chelimo, who won world U20 cross country bronze in Aarhus in 2019 and finished third in the 5000m at the World Championships in Oregon last year.

Chelimo recently won the Boclassic 10km in Bolzano for the second time, beating Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa by three seconds, and finished third at Campaccio in 2021 in a race won by his brother Jacob Kiplimo.

Chelimo will renew his rivalry with Crippa, who enjoyed a successful 2022 by winning European 10,000m gold and bronze in the 5000m. Crippa also broke the Italian half marathon record with 59:26 in Naples, becoming the first Italian athlete to hold national records in the 3000m, 5000m, 10,000m and h alf marathon. The 26-year-old finish ed fourth in a close race at the European Cross Country Championships in Venaria Reale, leading Italy to second place in the team contest. In his previous appearances at Campaccio, Crippa finished fourth in 2019 and 2020 and sixth in 2018. Now he is using cross country as preparation for his marathon debut in Milan on 2 April.

Birhanu Balew of Bahrain will make his third appearance in a cross country competition since the start of 2022 after finishing second at the Arab Cross Country Championships last February and in the World Athletics Cross Country Tour race in Bydgoszcz last October. Balew placed sixth in the Olympic 5000m final in Tokyo and set his PB of 12:56.26 in Rome in 2019.

Another top Italian runner in the line-up is 2018 European 3000m steeplechase bronze medallist Yohanes Chiappinelli, who finished seventh in the past three editions of Campaccio and placed eighth at the European Cross Country Championships in Venaria Reale, contributing to the team silver team medal for his nation.

Iliass Aouani started his cross country season in 2022 with an eighth-place finish at last year’s Campaccio and a national title in Trieste last March. He finished second in Amorebieta and fourth in Soria before winning the J Medical Cross in Venaria Reale, but he had to miss the European Cross Country Championships on home soil due to a bout of covid. He made his comeback at the San Silvestre Vallecana in Madrid where he ran the 10km in 28:45, missing his PB by 21 seconds.

The line-up is completed by Italy’s multiple world mountain medallist Francesco Puppi, 2022 Campaccio 10th-place finisher Luca Alfieri, European cross country team silver medallist Pasquale Selvarolo and marathon runner Alessandro Giacobazzi, plus Tunisia’s Mohamed Jhinaoui, who placed ninth at Campaccio last year and set a steeplechase PB of 8:16.38 in Rome in 2022, and Sweden’s Emil Millan de la Oliva, who finished 11th in the U23 race at the European Cross Country Championships in 2021.

The list of past Campaccio winners includes Francesco Panetta (1986, 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1993), Gelindo Bordin (1988), Haile Gebrselassie (1994), Kenenisa Bekele (2002), Sergiy Lebid (2003 and 2005), Eliud Kipchoge (2009), Muktar Edris (2013 and 2017) and Jacob Kiplimo (2021) in the men’s race, and Merima Denboba (2001), Paula Radcliffe (2002), Aniko Kalovics (2004, 2009, 2010 and 2011), Hellen Obiri (2017), Yasemin Can (2019) and Dawit Seyaum (2022) in the women’s race.
