Located on the Strip just south of the Bellagio , The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is one of Sin City's more modern luxury hotels. Rooms are comfortable yet contemporary, thanks to a palette of cool blues and bright whites. Accommodations also house plenty of luxe amenities like spacious, marble-floored bathrooms and separate seating areas. Plus, these are some of the only accommodations in Vegas that offer the option of a balcony or terrace (available in some suite categories). Downstairs in the lobby, the Wicked Spoon brunch buffet earns rave reviews from recent travelers for the delectable dishes served in individual sizes (in fact, nearly all of the Cosmopolitan's restaurants receive two thumbs up). Between meals, take a dip in one of the hotel's three pools, each with a different atmosphere. Recent travelers also praised the hotel's friendly staff and the concierge's helpful knowledge. Because The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is a member of the Marriott family, members of the Marriott Bonvoy membership program can accrue or redeem points by choosing to stay here.

With a modern vibe and quirky amenities — like cigarette machines that have been repurposed to dispense art pieces — the Cosmopolitan provides a welcome respite from the theme-iness of other hotels on the Strip.
Frommer's
The interior design was envisioned as an art project — a series of curated experiences creating a dramatic whole. The big spectacles will get your attention first: the three-story chandelier with a multilevel bar inside; the video panels on the lobby columns; the 6-foot-tall sculptures of women's pumps in random places.
The typical Vegas kitsch has been swapped out for aggressively modern design and futuristic touches (guests sign in on an iPad). Fanfare aside, rooms are large and feature comfortable, designer furnishings and modern, open bathrooms.

This unassuming little building at the entrance to Petco and Walgreens is barely noticeable, except the last time Kristine C. and I drove by, we noticed an inviting Thrift Store sign! We had to check it out. A travel agency that just doesn't have the clientele anymore, the owners decided to turn most of their office space into a little thrift and consignment store. They have all manner of typical thrift goods: jewelry, toys, records, books, home goods, clothing, decor, and others. Prices are reasonable and typical. The only thing lacking is the selection; they have what they have and that's it. The cashier volunteer that day was very friendly and talked story with us for quite a while. It's worth checking out if you enjoy bargain and treasure hunting. Half their profits go to a local charity.
A Thrift Store Edition My little family and I were driving down the street on Beretania for another errand when a green sign on the left screamed "Thrift Shop, today!" If you currently do business with Cosmopolitan Travel (name is on their building), on the same shopping center (where Petco and Walgreens is) this quaint little thrift store is in the same brick and mortar. The travel agency has long existed for many years and decided to add a little boutique as part of their business venture. The entrance is located on the back side of the boutique/travel agency and has their own mini lot. Drive in to the lot like you're going to Petco. The boutique is rather homey and tiny with an eclectic amount of knick knacks and small trinkets in every corner. Make sure you're looking up and down and in every crevice of this tiny store. Don't forget to look deep into the glass shelves for rare vintage/costume jewelries, pins and such. On the back a small rack of mixed articles of clothing, bags are hung up for perusing. Are you looking for kitchen cups and plates? On the back displays plenty for one to touch and feel. "If you don't buy it today, it may not be here tomorrow." which is true on all rules of treasure hunting. Delicate china's are in store along with shells, Christmas decorations, CD's, movies, 45 RPM records. The price is attractive for every piece you find. Eva was kind enough to tell us about the store she's looking after with her additional stories of history. It made our perusing experience that much more pleasant. I look forward to treasure shopping some more as their store continuously receives more items. They also consign items. Please call for details.

Hitting the road
We prefer to explore a destination at our own pace. Jumping in the (rental) car and roaming the roads without any obligations. We always arrive well prepared in terms of sights and highlights but never have a day-to-day itinerary. Seeing where the day takes us and allowing some time for the unexpected. Enjoy the ride…

Practical information
We research our destination until we know it inside-out. A good preparation is essential to get the most out of that hard-earned vacation time, after all. After our trip, we add advice from locals and our personal experiences to the mix. This results in practical and in-depth destination guides. Time to plan your trip…

What Our Clients Say
| Aaron B. North Hollywood, CA
“Where do I start… DC is FANTASTIC!!!! She’s the BEST!!!
First off, she is very professional and is extremely detailed, which is what you need when you are going to a place where you have never gone before. She is an experienced traveler/vacationer and she will tell you everything you need to know about the airports, plane rides, taxi cabs/private transportation – all the way to whatever is involved in getting you to your destination so that you will have the best experience. Traveling/Vacationing is her passion & expertise and I am confident in consulting with her about all my traveling/vacation needs.
She helped us (my wife & I) plan our destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and I’ll tell you that we had the most absolute best time of our lives. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, especially for a very important event like our wedding. With DC’s help and guidance, we were prepared for the whole trip and even afterwards when we got back home. She held our hands since the day we met her and we were happy, safe, and confident that she was the best person to have helped us all the way.
You will not be disappointed.
Thanks DC!!! For the best destination wedding – our trip was perfect!!!”

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations
By Claudia Looi 2 Comments
Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.
Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.
Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.
The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow. Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.
The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:
1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.
2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
