![Skip-the-line Leonardo da Vinci walking tour Skip-the-line Leonardo da Vinci walking tour](https://media.timeout.com/images/105156260/750/422/image.jpg)
Another queue-jumper tour, this one takes you into the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a Unesco-listed site that contains the ‘Last Supper’ mural by Leonardo da Vinci, who lived in Milan for some time. There’s also his ‘Atlantic Codex’ to see: a frankly mind-boggling compedium of some of the Renaissance man’s scientific drawings and writings. Disclaimer: you’ll probably come out feeling like a real under-achiever.
4. La Scala theatre and museum tour

Naturally, you get to try your efforts.
8. Lake Maggiore day trip
![Lake Maggiore day trip Lake Maggiore day trip](https://media.timeout.com/images/105156313/750/422/image.jpg)
Another water-based tour, this time out to the beautiful Maggiore, in what the organisers describe as ‘Italy’s Lake District’. (We can’t help thinking the weather will be a lot more hospitable here.) You’ll also get the chance to explore the quaint lakeside village of Stresa and the Borromean Islands.
9. Skyscrapers guided walking tour

Milan offers something for everyone, whether you’re into fashion, art, history, or just about anything else. Here are a few things to do in Milan that are worth checking out.
- Visit the Duomo , Milan’s iconic Gothic masterpiece and the largest cathedral in Italy, and climb to the rooftop for breathtaking city views.
- Feast your eyes on Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, housed in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
- Explore Sforza Castle , an imposing medieval fortress-turned-museum that houses various art collections, including Michelangelo's unfinished masterpiece, the Pietà Rondanini.
- Shop your way around Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an elegant gallery known for its stunning architecture in addition to its impressive collection of luxury fashion brands.
- Discover an impressive collection of Italian Renaissance art, including works by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Mantegna, at the Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery.
- Stroll along the picturesque Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese canals, lined with trendy bars, cafes, boutiques, and art galleries.
![milan italy tours How can I get tickets for the Last Supper?](https://images.ctfassets.net/206xpozje0ny/1QO3FCecmzVV1Bd8Ag8tlD/8e2c46ef0a0f2f390572da7d2f9cdbaf/Milan_Welcome_to_Milan_WEB_RES_0010_temp.jpg?fm=webp&w=600&h=400&fit=fill&f=center)
While it is possible to book Last Supper tickets online, the official website isn’t very user-friendly and offers little to no flexibility in case your plans change. Your best bet is to go with a guided tour to guarantee a hassle-free experience and ensure you get in. Both our Best of Milan Tour and our Sforza Castle Tour with Last Supper offer skip-the-line, pre-reserved access to the famous (and rapidly deteriorating!) masterpiece, along with the context you need to fully appreciate da Vinci’s genius.
![milan italy tours What are the best things to do in Milan with kids?](https://images.ctfassets.net/206xpozje0ny/1deOZEUTKmqaprD1fBe6Pk/5914eaa0144367bfda5e6f085018bdb0/Milan_Welcome_to_Milan_WEB_RES_0004_temp.jpg?fm=webp&w=600&h=400&fit=fill&f=center)
Milan is a fantastic city for families and many of its top attractions, including the Duomo and the Last Supper, are easy to visit with little ones. Parco Sempione is a sprawling green space in the heart of Milan with plenty of space for kids to run free, and nearby Sforza Castle is a fascinating visit for travelers of all ages. Kids will love exploring the castle on our Milan walking tour !
![milan italy tours What typical foods should I try in Milan?](https://images.ctfassets.net/206xpozje0ny/3D1sG2zSIRgoehd6aThMzk/562b867c397a00c2ad5067e8d68a73ff/Florence_Chianti_Experience_WEB_RES_0002_TEMP.jpg?fm=webp&w=600&h=400&fit=fill&f=center)
Milan might not be as famous as Naples or Bologna when it comes to gastronomy, but there are still plenty of delicious typical foods from Milan that are worth a try.
First things first: risotto. Rice is more common than pasta here in the north of Italy, and risotto alla Milanese is arguably its best iteration. It’s creamy, saffron-infused, and a true culinary masterpiece.
Plenty of other staple dishes of Milanese cuisine are similarly hearty and filling—perfect for the chilly winter months. Ossobuco (braised veal shanks cooked with vegetables, wine, and broth), cassoeula (a pork and cabbage stew), and the famous minestrone soup are all commonly found on menus and family tables throughout Milan.
Craving something sweet? Crumbly and buttery sbrisolona cake is one of Milan’s best-known desserts. If you’re visiting around Christmastime, be sure to try the famous panettone—though it’s now enjoyed throughout Italy and beyond, it has its roots here in Milan!
![milan italy tours When is the best time to visit Milan?](https://images.ctfassets.net/206xpozje0ny/6uf10hTWIDVHv9oAxIxhrU/6672088f623030f16df13d52af046afb/Milan_Welcome_to_Milan_WEB_RES_0008_temp.jpg?fm=webp&w=600&h=400&fit=fill&f=center)
There’s really no bad time of year to visit Milan. It all depends on your personal travel style, budget, and the kinds of experiences you’re looking to have.
As with much of Italy, the spring and fall “shoulder seasons” offer beautiful weather and a pleasant atmosphere in the city without the crowds. While summer is easily hotter and more crowded, it also offers dozens of festivals and events, including outdoor concerts at Sforza Castle. It’s also a lovely time of year to enjoy a day trip to picturesque Lake Como, just two and a half hours away by train.
Winter is the quietest time of year to visit Milan, as well as the most budget friendly. While temperatures can be quite chilly and snow is a possibility (this is northern Italy, after all!), the city won’t be nearly as crowded with tourists and offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
![milan italy tours How do I use public transport in Milan?](https://images.ctfassets.net/206xpozje0ny/2Ke3QwcYMg0cEA8KW06eSy/72012aa805e61b73831adb302aa35fd4/last-supper-tickets-9.jpg?fm=webp&w=600&h=400&fit=fill&f=center)
Milan offers a modern and efficient public transportation system. With five metro lines and dozens of buses and trams, there are plenty of options to get you wherever you need to go. Tickets start at just €1.60 for a single journey and can be purchased at self-service kiosks, newsstands, and ATM (Azienda Transporti Milanesi) service centers throughout the city.

The Last Supper
What's unique about da Vinci's famous mural is that it's not hanging in some famous museum filled with other masterpieces, but it's painted directly onto the wall in the unassuming Santa Maria delle Grazie church. It's a solemn and private space for a sacred painting. This makes the experience even more memorable and exclusive since only a small number of tourists have access each day, which is essential for preserving this fragile art.
The next-best benefit—aside from the painting itself—is that your expert guide can point out the most important parts of the masterpiece and tell of the folklore, myths, secrets, and facts that surround Last Supper . This is important, since time in front of the painting is limited to 15 minutes per group, with less than 30 people allowed in the room at any one time. A few helpful pointers will make sure you don't miss a thing about one of the world's most famous artworks.
* Please make sure to provide your full names and birthdates upon booking and bring a legal identification, otherwise security will not grant you access.
Walking Tour of Milan
Upon leaving the Santa Maria delle Grazie, you'll head towards the city center with your guide to see one of the world’s most historic and opulent malls: the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. You'll be starry-eyed here as you see the famous shops of Gucci, Versace, Prada, and many more household names in a building that feels more like a baroque palace than a mall. Welcome to the fashion heartland of Milan!
After exploring the mall and strolling past beautiful Sforza Castle and La Scala opera house, your guide will lead you through the small but historic Brera district and the courtyard of the Brera Gallery. Known as the city's artistic and cultural center—with an upmarket yet bohemian feel—this is also home to many of Milan's most famous residents. Learn their secrets from your guide!
Milan’s Duomo
The world-famous Duomo in Milan is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and the largest in Italy. There's a lot to see here, so you can skip the line and spend your time looking around instead of waiting around. Milan’s cathedral is filled with historic artworks, incredible architectural features, and ancient crypts, as well as a fascinating archaeological area to explore. Follow along with your guide who'll keep you enthralled with the 600-year history of its construction, troubles, and the historic figures who once walked the cathedral's corridors.

Enchanting Italy With Luxury Stay & Business Class Train Rides
What people love about italy tours from milan.
Our guide, Ned, was great. The hotel Meininger was clean and comfortable in a college dormitory way, but not very friendly. I asked to reduce the centrally controlled thermostat because I sleep better when it’s cooler, and they said no. The hallways are not air conditioned at all. The rooms get hot during the day and the air conditioning won’t stay on without the key in the slot. I’d rather pay a few dollars more and adjust the temperature to my own needs. The tour has lots of walking but it was enjoyable to see Milan’s highlights. Lake Como was gorgeous scenery, perfect weather, and we had enough time for a nice meal in Bellagio and a drink in Varenna. The train ride back to Milan was standing room only, and hot and stuffy, followed by a long wait in line at the taxi stand. I’d rate the tour guide higher than the accommodations. I suppose that the name of the tour agency (Italy on a Budget) should give a warning that all is not going to be first class.
This tour needs to experienced to be believed. Every day of the tour was simply great!
We did a customized Italy tour plus 2 days Amsterdam at the end of our trip. The team was fantastic in getting us exactly what we wanted. Any time we had difficulties or questions the team was on top of it and got our issues solved almost immediately.

Today Milan offers a sublime mix of historical architecture, modern high-rise skyscrapers, all mingled together with a dash of Italian life. The city is particularly known for its abundance of high end fashion retailers and the beautiful Duomo Cathedral.

A trip to Milan can be very affordable, especially if you visit in the low season (between November and March), saving you money on both flights and accommodation. Once you’re there, take advantage of the city’s efficient public transportation system by buying a block of ten tickets (a blochetto) and staying in a quieter neighbourhood like Porta Venezia or Citta Studi.
Once you touch down in Milan, you’ll be landing at one of three airports. Linate Airport (LIN) is the closest to the city centre and a taxi or shuttle bus takes around 20 minutes. Malpensa Airport (MXP) is a larger airport that's farther from the city centre (taking around 50-60 minutes by train). The most convenient and economical option is to take a train straight to Milano Centrale. Taxis are also available from outside all airports. Or hire a car with British Airways, and receive great benefits – with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support. Collect Avios on every rental.
The Italian fashion capital is a fast-paced metropolis with an abundance of creative energy and a lively nightlife. From design museums to fashion houses, it’s easy to get your shopping and style fix pretty much anywhere you go. A unique city where traditional Italian charm meets modern culture, don’t miss seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s famous mural The Last Supper and the spectacular Duomo cathedral.
You can book a hand baggage-only ticket or make the most of our generous baggage allowance. Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Italy, but they will need to hold a valid UK passport with at least six months validity. If you hold a passport from a country or territory outside of these areas, you may need to apply for a visa before you travel. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to at the IATA Travel Centre .

Actress Tang Thanh Ha and luxury retailer heir husband tour Italy
A ctress Tang Thanh Ha and her husband Louis Nguyen, the son of luxury retailer tycoon Jonathan Hanh Nguyen, visited various attractions and restaurants in Milan and Florence during a business trip.
The pair attended an event in Italy held by jewelry brand Swarovski earlier this week and utilized their free time to explore local attractions. They visited the streets of Milan’s Brera district, notable for its historical buildings such as the 15th-century Santa Maria del Carmine Church, the 18th-century Palazzo Castiglioni designed by architect Giuseppe Piermarini, and the Galleria del Corso shopping area, which features luxury brands like Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton.
They also strolled through Via Madonnina Street, a 200-meter-long pedestrian zone famous for its upscale fashion boutiques, art galleries, and eateries.
The couple visited the Taverna del Borgo Antico, a restaurant dating back to 1910, popular among both locals and tourists. Known for their culinary curiosity, Ha and Nguyen sampled various Italian dishes, including ravioli with a classic tomato sauce.
This traditional Italian pasta, made from thin dough, can be filled with ingredients like beef, pork, chicken, cheeses, or vegetables, and served in styles such as boiled, baked, or fried. Accompaniments can include pesto, cream, or herbs.
During their meal, they also had raw oysters and bread with butter.
Additionally, they visited a pasta restaurant where they tried hand-made spaghetti served with a cream, cheese, and cured meat sauce.
Their trip also included a visit to Florence, where they explored the area around the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. This main church of Florence, known for its striking Gothic architecture and stained-glass windows, was started in 1296 and completed in 1436. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a key cultural and religious landmark.
Ha, 38, began her entertainment career at 16 and has reduced her on-screen appearances since marrying Louis in 2012.
Louis, 41, is the second son of luxury retail mogul Jonathan Hanh Nguyen, founder of IPPG, a conglomerate that collaborates with leading international luxury brands in the Vietnamese market, including Rolex, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Burberry, and Versace.
