The perfect, portable travel charging kit for Apple fans

My portable charging kit.

The 5 best travel tech gadgets: Kit to stuff in your luggage

What is the best gear for travel? ZDNet's top choice is the NIU portable power pack/charger. But it's not the only tech gear you should bring with you on your travels.

I tend to go through phases of traveling heavy and traveling light.

Right now, I prefer the convenience and ease of traveling light , and that means no unnecessarily large chargers, enormous cables, or hefty power banks.

Here's the kit I've put together instead.

It's small, lightweight, portable, and perfect when traveling with my iPhone , Apple Watch , and AirPods .

1. A great multipurpose wireless charger

The Apple MagSafe Duo wireless charger is a fold-out charger that, for me, is ideal for travel. You can charge an iPhone and Apple Watch together on a nightstand, and you can pop your AirPods or AirPods Pro case onto the MagSafe charger when that needs the occasional power top-up.

The MagSafe Duo packs down small, but opens out into a super convenient charging station, with the added benefit of there being no annoying lights to keep you awake at night.

2. a charger to power the charging pad.

Don't let the tiny size fool you -- the Anker Nano II charger is mighty powerful (ignore the fact that I have the UK version here -- the US version is the same apart from the plug and the power it runs on).

This 30W charger is able to power the Apple MagSafe Duo charging pad when charging both an iPhone and Apple Watch, and it can double as a stand-alone charger when you want to get a faster charge than MagSafe will give you.

Anker Nano II 30W

3. a power bank.

This Baseus power bank is a great combination of technologies -- a 6,000mAh power bank (enough for close to a full charge on the biggest iPhones) capable of up to 15W wireless (7.5W on the iPhone) and 20W wired charging, and the convenience of being able to attach it to the iPhone using MagSafe.

A great bit of kit, and a lot cheaper than the Apple equivalent.

4. a charging cable.

Yup, you're going to need a cable. Apple's Lightning-to-USB-C cable is a good choice because you get a small, lightweight, yet durable cable that will power both your MagSafe Duo charger and your iPhone.

Which of the best portable travel chargers for Apple Watch should you choose?

With the new Qi2 charging standard now making its way to products, there's a host of new high-end Apple Watch travel chargers tapping into the higher-speeds that Qi2 offers.

The best we've seen so far, and the best Apple Watch travel charger overall as a result, is the Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (Foldable 3-in-1) . With high-speed Apple Watch charging, 15W MagSafe for iPhone, and wireless charging for your AirPods, it's an all-rounder. It's only made better by the fact it also folds down to a compact brick, easily stowed away when travelling.

If you want something that's more suitable to a bedside table, we've got you covered there too with the best stands to charge both iPhone and Apple Watch . Though our Anker pick even features there too — we love it that much.

Whichever Apple Watch charger you choose, consider buying one that's MFi-certified. For a product to earn MFi certification, it must pass compliance and safety tests. The company must also pay Apple royalties to put this certification on their products, so it will cost a bit more. Whatever your portable charging needs are, we found the best portable travel Apple Watch charger for you on this list.

The Best Apple Wireless Charging Stations for Multiple Devices

A three in one Apple charger in use shown next to a cup of coffee

By Nick Guy

If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, there’s a good chance you’re all in: iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. One way to keep each of these devices powered is to run three cords to three adapters—but the best way is to use a single charging station. If you have an older iPhone, Mophie’s 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand is the best charging station, offering fast wireless power for all your Apple gear (well, except for your MacBook and iPad) in a tidy, convenient design that’s worth the price. And if you’ve upgraded to an iPhone 12 or 13 with Apple’s MagSafe charging and mounting system, don’t worry—we have a pick for you, as well .

Everything we recommend

best travel iphone and watch charger

Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

The best three-in-one charging dock for a non-magsafe iphone, apple watch, and airpods.

The stand-style iPhone charger and the divot for an AirPods case make alignment easy. Plus, because it holds an Apple Watch in landscape orientation, you can conveniently snooze alarms.

Buying Options

Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe

The best charging dock for iphone 12 and 13.

This multi-device charger is the easiest to use and the best looking, and it offers the fastest possible wireless charging speeds. But it works only with the iPhone 12 and 13 series.

best travel iphone and watch charger

Apple MagSafe Duo Charger

The best charging station for frequent travelers.

This is the most portable charger you can get for an iPhone and Apple Watch, and it charges at the iPhone’s maximum rate, but unlike our other picks it can’t charge three devices at the same time.

The Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand is the best way to wirelessly charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods every day, provided you own a handset from the iPhone 8 through 11 series. Rather than requiring you to precisely line up your phone on a flat pad for charging, as many other wireless charging stations do, the Mophie offers an angled stand that makes proper alignment practically foolproof. The cross-shaped AirPods divot properly fits either the basic or Pro headphones case, and the Apple Watch charger puts the display in landscape orientation so that you can utilize Nightstand Mode . Mophie’s dock charges a little quicker than other non-MagSafe charging stations, and none of its competitors offer such a great combination of features at a comparable price. (However, if you have an iPhone 12 or later, you should consider upgrading to a MagSafe-compatible wireless charging station like the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 or the Apple MagSafe Duo Charger , either of which provides faster charging and is easier to align.)

The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe provides full 15 W MagSafe charging and the best ease of use of any charging station we’ve tested, making it the best option if you have an iPhone 12 or later. Rather than lying on a flat pad or against an angled stand, your iPhone “floats” on a raised magnetic mount in whatever position you choose. Because the phone locks magnetically into place, there’s no way to misalign it, so you’ll never have to worry if your phone is actually going to charge. The dock’s design looks more sculptural than techy, with a round base and an angled metal stalk that branches off to hold your iPhone and Apple Watch. Belkin’s charger comes with the wall adapter, so everything you need is in the box, and its two-year warranty also covers your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods if something goes wrong while they’re charging.

A charging station with room for three devices is ideal for your nightstand, but if you want something more compact to take with you while traveling, the Apple MagSafe Duo Charger is the best choice. The MagSafe Duo fits in the palm of your hand when folded up, and it’s as thick as an iPhone in a case. Compared with most wireless charging stations, that’s tiny. It will also charge your iPhone 12 or 13 faster than any non-MagSafe multi-device wireless charger—at the full 15 W that MagSafe allows—and thanks to the magnetic alignment system, you don’t have to worry about lining it up properly for charging. If you have an older, Qi-compatible iPhone, it’s still the only travel-friendly multi-device wireless charger you can get, though you won’t see MagSafe charging speeds. It does make a couple of trade-offs: First, it has just two charging spots—one for an iPhone (or an AirPods case) and one for an Apple Watch. Second, it doesn’t come with a power brick; if you buy a 20-watt power adapter (which is required for the fastest charging speeds), that brings the price up by $15 to $20.

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked, how we tested, our pick: mophie 3-in-1 wireless charging stand, flaws but not dealbreakers, also great: belkin boost charge pro 3-in-1 wireless charger with magsafe, also great: apple magsafe duo charger, other good apple wireless charging stations, what to look forward to, the competition.

I’ve been reviewing mobile accessories since 2012, and I’ve been covering them for Wirecutter since 2015. I’m also the author of Wirecutter’s guides to USB wall chargers and car chargers , for which I’ve seen and tested pretty much every available charging variation.

I researched and wrote Wirecutter’s first guide to Qi wireless chargers in 2017, and I have continued testing new models and updating that guide. I also wrote our guide to Qi power banks , battery packs that use the same wireless technology.

These charging bases are designed for people who own multiple Apple devices—namely, an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and AirPods—and want to charge all of them at once, presumably overnight. Like single-device Qi chargers , these three-in-one chargers work without your having to plug cords into any of your devices.

Qi (pronounced “chee”) is the wireless-charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium, an industry group with more than 500 members, including device manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung, as well as accessory makers such as Foxconn (Belkin’s parent company) and Mophie. For a charger to be certified by the WPC, the manufacturer has to submit it to an authorized test lab . All iPhones since the iPhone 8—even the iPhone 12 and 13 series with MagSafe—use a version of Qi charging.

If you want the fastest possible charge for your iPhone, you need to use a cable—going wireless is about convenience, not speed. Affordable, wired 20 W USB-PD chargers paired with a USB-C–to–Lightning cable are about 30% faster than the fastest wireless chargers.

The other downside to wireless charging is that you can’t pick up your phone and use it while it’s charging, as you can with a charging cable. This limitation makes a wireless option better for recharging overnight or when you want to see the phone’s display on your desk or in the kitchen, rather than while you’re watching Netflix, say, or scrolling through Twitter.

Apple first stoked the desire for this kind of accessory when it announced its AirPower charging station in late 2017. The flat pad was supposed to be able to charge an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once, no matter where you placed them on the pad. Ultimately, Apple pulled the plug on the project in early 2019.

In 2020, however, the company introduced its MagSafe charging and magnetic mounting system as part of the iPhone 12 lineup. Hidden magnets inside the phone allow you to connect supported accessories and charge at up to 15 watts, in contrast to 7.5 watts with other Qi chargers. The magnets also ensure proper alignment, so you don’t have to worry about your phone being out of place and not charging properly. You can find non-MagSafe-branded magnetic chargers, too, but they can’t take advantage of the faster charging speeds that MagSafe allows.

A good wireless charger should meet all of the following basic criteria, which we used as guidelines for our research:

  • WPC and MFi certification: We considered only those chargers that have been certified by the WPC . This means that a charger has been tested and found to be both safe and in compliance with the Qi standard. If a wireless charger isn’t certified, that doesn’t necessarily indicate it’s unsafe or noncompliant—but choosing something that has been verified is prudent. The same can be said for MFi certification, which is Apple’s own program that supplies the hardware components for licensed accessories and applies specifically to the charging puck and MagSafe components.
  • Charging speed: Most of the chargers we tested advertised 7.5 W charging for iPhones; MagSafe chargers support 15 W. We weren’t concerned about the 10 W charging that some Android phones support because people are unlikely to use an Android phone alongside an Apple Watch.
  • Design: We considered not only how the charging pad looked but also how grippy the surface was for holding a phone in place, how easily we could align devices with the charging coils, and where the watch sat (some band styles may prevent AirPods from aligning properly, for example, depending on the design). We also noted any extras, such as charging or placement indicator lights.
  • Noise: Some wireless chargers emit a faint (and sometimes not so faint) whine or clicking noise, which can quickly become annoying. We listened for this in our tests.
  • Maker: We considered models only from companies that we knew had a good reputation for warranty coverage and customer support. Even if a charger is WPC certified, there are no guarantees it will never have a problem, and you should be able to get help if you need that.

We tested the performance of each wireless charging base by placing an iPhone 13 with a fully drained battery on the charging pad. We measured the phone’s battery level after 30 minutes of charging and then again after one hour. A good Qi charger should fully charge any phone in a few hours (and certainly will overnight), so we focused on differences in short-term charging. I first tested everything at my desk, but if I heard a sound that could be annoying, I also tested the charger in my bedroom at night, sleeping with it positioned a couple of feet from my head to see if the noise would interfere with my sleep.

A Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand shown charging three devices

The Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand is the best choice if you have an iPhone that uses regular Qi wireless charging (iPhone 8 through 11) and you want a single charging station that can power your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time. It charges such iPhones just as quickly as any other non-MagSafe multi-device charger we’ve tested, and it’s better designed to accommodate all three devices thanks to a stand-style phone charger and a cross-shaped divot that snugly accommodates both styles of the AirPods charging case. These thoughtful design touches make it easy for you to align the respective devices so that they charge properly. Similarly, the placement of the Apple Watch charger conveniently allows you to use the watch as an alarm clock.

We’ve found through testing single-device Qi chargers that we prefer angled, stand-style chargers that hold the phone upright, for two reasons: You can more easily align the phone properly so that it actually charges, and you can more comfortably look at the screen while the handset is charging. The Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand and the Logitech Powered 3-in-1 Dock rank among the first models to bring that raised-charger design to multi-device power stations. We found that the angle made an appreciable difference in everyday use, especially at night and in the dark. It’s not impossible (or even necessarily difficult, with practice) to line up a phone on a flat charger, but it’s certainly easier to place a phone on a stand that keeps the device in the right position. The stand makes things so foolproof, you can do it by feel without even looking.

A close up of a rubber-lined divot for an AirPods Pro case

To the right of the phone charger is the Apple Watch charging puck, and to the left, a cross-shaped indentation for your AirPods or AirPods Pro case, ensuring a precise hold no matter which version of the headphones you use. Other Qi charging stations require you to align the AirPods case properly on a flat surface or in a round divot that doesn’t perfectly cradle the AirPods case as Mophie’s does, and that task can be difficult, especially without a clear visual guide. Mophie’s design allows the case to just nestle in, making charging the AirPods so simple that it’s extremely unlikely you’ll ever head to work with dead headphones.

Apple certifies only those Apple Watch chargers that use Apple-approved charging pucks, which this Mophie model does. That means it’s as safe as any first-party Apple charger for charging any Apple Watch. It works with open or closed bands and holds the watch in landscape orientation. Both the 40 mm and 44 mm watch sizes sit low enough that, if you’re using your Apple Watch’s Nightstand Mode, you can press its Digital Crown to snooze an alarm without knocking the watch off the charger. It’s a thoughtful design decision that makes the charging station more useful.

None of the iPhone and Apple Watch combo charging stations we tested filled up the phone’s battery quite as quickly as the fastest single-device charging stands we’ve tried. Since this combined charger is slower, we think it’s best for a nightstand, where, assuming you’ll be charging overnight, the slower charging rate won’t be as big of a concern. The Mophie charger powered our iPhone 13 to about 23% full battery after half an hour and 50% after an hour. Our Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm), also starting at zero, got to 23% battery capacity after a half hour and 55% after an hour.

Battery charging results on the Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

The Mophie charger has a notably basic design. It’s an 8-by-4-inch rounded rectangle with a body primarily made of glossy black plastic. Rubber feet on the bottom prevent it from sliding around. It lacks the heaviness that you might expect high-quality materials to have, but that doesn’t affect performance. Indicator lights on the front of the charger (underneath the phone-charging stand) show whether your phone and AirPods, respectively, are charging. The lights are not terribly bright, and they turn off after a few seconds.

The power cord that you plug into the back of the Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand uses a round, barrel-style connection instead of Micro-USB or USB-C, so it won’t be as easy to replace if something goes wrong or you lose it. Mophie offers a two-year warranty on its charger and says it generally replaces the entire product rather than individual pieces under the warranty.

If you have an iPhone 12 or later and want to take advantage of the easier alignment and faster charging that the MagSafe charging system allows, consider one of our other picks below.

After we experienced intermittent charging issues while using the 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand with an iPhone 12 Pro in a MagSafe case, we reached out to Mophie, who confirmed that this is a known issue with some iPhone 12-series phones. The company has implemented a firmware update that should resolve the issue for all iPhones, and those affected should contact customer service for a replacement. If you have an iPhone 12 or 13, we think you should get the Belkin charger anyway. But if you’ve already invested in the Mophie charger and are having issues, seek a replacement. In the meantime, we’ve found removing the case can help resolve the issue.

A close up of fingerprints and dust on a 3-in-2 wireless charging stand

Unlike other models, this Mophie charger can work only with the specific combination of a phone, an Apple Watch, and AirPods; that is, you can’t use the AirPods charging spot for a second phone.

The charger’s glossy surface collects more fingerprints than a detective. If that’s the kind of thing that bothers you, this model may not be the right pick for you. Both the Logitech Powered 3-in-1 Dock and the Belkin Boost Charge 3-in-1 Wireless Charger , our former top pick, are better options in that case.

Belkin’s Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe shown charging an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and Apple AirPods.

Belkin’s Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe should be your first choice if you have an iPhone 12 or 13–series phone. It’s one of the first third-party chargers to incorporate Apple’s MagSafe feature, and it’s the best implementation of the feature we’ve seen so far. Not only is attaching your phone impossible to mess up, but the dock also supports the fastest iPhone wireless charging speeds, and it’s the best-looking option. The Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 costs about the same as our top pick from Mophie, and it comes with a wall adapter, unlike Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger . Belkin’s two-year warranty covers both the charger and connected devices.

MagSafe offers two major benefits: perfect alignment and fast, 15 W charging speeds. Although you can find plenty of magnetic chargers for sale that work like MagSafe, the Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 is officially licensed by Apple, meaning it can take full advantage of these features. In contrast, non-licensed models may hold your phone properly but won’t charge at full speed.

Most comparable charging stations require you to lay your phone on a flat pad or an angled stand that conceals a Qi charging coil. The Belkin dock holds your phone in the air, attached to a magnetic charging puck, with its center about 4½ inches above the 5¼-inch round, soft-touch rubber-covered base. A circular indentation in the center of the base lets you charge your AirPods (or another phone, albeit at a slow, 5 W charging rate). A forward-angled metal stalk behind it branches off and terminates to the left with the phone charger and to the right with the Apple Watch puck.

The Belkinn MagSafe charging station, shown without devices using it to charge.

As long as you’re using aa MagSafe-compatible phone—either without a case or with a MagSafe-compatible case —you can’t misalign your phone. You can turn it in any orientation without disrupting its charging. The sturdy base ensures that you can tap your phone without the charging station sliding around, and its rubbery underside provides enough grip that you can easily pull the device off with one hand without the dock moving. The Apple Watch charger works much the same way and supports any kind of watch band.

At this point, only Apple-licensed magnetic chargers can support 15 W speeds; models like the Mophie 3-in-1 are limited to 7.5 W. But although the Belkin charges at a faster clip than the Mophie, it’s not twice as fast in practice, as you might expect from reading those numbers. Across three tests on the Belkin, our iPhone 13 charged from 0% to an average of 37% in half an hour and 68% in an hour, versus its results of 23% and 47%, respectively, on the Mophie. Those numbers match what we’ve seen from Apple’s own MagSafe accessories, and they’re as fast as you’re going to get in charging your devices wirelessly.

Not only does the Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 work well, but it looks great, too. It’s available in either black or white, and both versions have a matte finish that doesn’t show fingerprints like the Mophie model’s glossy surface does. It looks more like a modern sculpture than a tech gadget. If there’s a downside to the design, it’s the rather bright white light on the base that indicates when that particular charger is in use. Light-sensitive sleepers might not love that light in their bedroom.

Belkin offers a two-year connected equipment warranty , covering not only the charger itself but also up to $2,500 in costs “for the repair or replacement of connected equipment damaged from surges or spikes that occur when they are properly connected to a Belkin product.” Having a two-year warranty on the dock itself is already pretty good, but that extra protection offers real peace of mind.

Apple Magsafe duo charging an iPhone 12 and Apple watch simultaneously

Our other picks are better options if you plan to charge your gear at your bedside, but if you travel a lot (or hope to in the future), consider Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger . This iPhone and Apple Watch charger is far smaller than any other charging station when in use, and it folds in half to take up even less space in your bag or a pocket. Because it uses Apple’s MagSafe charging system, the iPhone 12 and 13-series phone will charge faster on this model than with any non-MagSafe wireless charger, and they’ll magnetically snap into place so you don’t have to fuss with alignment. Even for a multi-device wireless charger, it’s a relatively expensive option, considering it doesn’t come with an AC adapter; since it has only two charging spots, it can charge either your phone or your AirPods, not both at the same time. But it’s the only wireless charging station that’s practical to take on the go.

The first thing that sets the MagSafe Duo Charger apart from every other wireless charging station is its compact size. Coated in soft-touch rubber, the charger consists of two 2.8-inch rounded squares with a thin hinge connecting them; you can fold it up when you aren’t using it, and the magnets hold it shut. The left square is the MagSafe phone charger, which can also charge AirPods or any other Qi-compatible device, and the right side is the Apple Watch charging puck, which you can use flat or folded up for Nightstand Mode. Opened up, the charger is roughly the width of an iPhone 12 or 13 and just a little taller. Folded, it’s about 0.6 inch thick, roughly the size of a makeup compact.

White Magsafe duo sitting closed next to an iPhone 12

The other important feature is MagSafe, which magnetically locks compatible phones in place and also allows for faster iPhone charging than on traditional Qi chargers like our Mophie pick. It supports 15-watt charging speeds on the iPhone 12/13, 12 Pro/13 Pro, and 12 Pro Max/13 Pro Max, and 12-watt charging on the iPhone 12 mini/13 mini. In our tests, the MagSafe Duo Charger was just as fast as the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 and notably faster than the Mophie 3-in-1 , our next-fastest pick: A fully drained iPhone 13 reached 34% battery capacity in 30 minutes and 69% in an hour, even when an Apple Watch was charging at the same time. (Apple also sells a stand-alone MagSafe phone charger, but it’s no faster than the MagSafe Duo Charger.) You can charge older iPhones and other Qi-compatible devices on this model, as well, but you don’t get the same speeds or the magnetic attachment.

The MagSafe Duo Charger typically costs $130, and that price doesn’t include the 20-watt adapter you need to get the fastest charging speeds; buying that accessory brings the total price to $150, about the same as for our other picks. That’s a lot to ask for a charger that offers one fewer charging pad. But we’d never even consider traveling with one of those other chargers, whereas the MagSafe Duo Charger could be convenient if and when we ever travel again.

If you are a frequent traveler , you might like the Anker PowerWave Go 3-in-1 Stand . Its modular design makes it more useful than any other charging station we’ve seen because you can add or remove just the parts you need. The phone charging stand is actually a 10,000mAh (37Wh) wireless power bank that you can take with you for portable power, and its 20 W USB-C port can charge most phones at their fastest speeds. The Apple Watch charger is removable as well, with a USB-C connector that means it can get power from the power bank, the USB-C port on your computer, or any other USB-C charger . And the wall adapter is Anker’s Nano II 45W , which (with the included USB-C-to-USB-C cable) can be used to charge many other devices as quickly as possible, including laptops and tablets. But while these individual pieces are all exciting, they contribute to a particularly high asking price of around $180 (at the time of this writing). Despite the steep cost, the PowerWave Go 3-in-1 Stand is also slower at wireless charging than our picks, charging an iPhone 12 to 17% in 30 minutes and 33% in 60 minutes, compared to 22% and 42% from our top pick from Mophie. For most people, we think it makes sense to stick with our simpler, cheaper, and quicker picks for standard bedside or desk charging.

If you want to be able to charge two phones at once , the Logitech Powered 3-in-1 Dock is a good alternative to the Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand. Like our top pick, it has a stand-style charger for your phone and an Apple Watch charging puck. The third charging spot is flat, allowing you to power either AirPods or another phone. But the Logitech’s main charger was a little slower than that of the Mophie in our testing, it’s harder to line up an AirPods case without a dedicated divot, and this larger charging station doesn’t look as nice as our top pick.

We’re planning a new round of testing for the spring of 2023, which will pit our current picks against the following models:

  • Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe
  • Anker 533 Wireless Charger (3-in-1 Stand)
  • Anker 544 Wireless Charger (4-in-1 Stand)
  • Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand 2nd Gen (WIZ017)
  • Einova Power Bar
  • ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with CryoBoost
  • HyperJuice 4-in-1 Wireless Charger
  • Mophie 3-in-1 Stand for MagSafe Charger
  • Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe
  • OtterBox 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station for MagSafe (78-80533)
  • Satechi 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand
  • Satechi Duo Wireless Charger Power Stand

We’re also excited about a new wireless charging standard called Qi2 that the World Power Consortium (WPC) introduced in January 2023. Apple allowed its proprietary MagSafe technology to be used as the basis for Qi2’s key feature, called the Magnetic Power Profile. Like MagSafe, the WPC says this feature uses magnets to “ensure that phones or other rechargeable battery-powered mobile products are perfectly aligned with charging devices, thus providing improved energy efficiency and faster charging.” We look forward to testing some Qi2-compliant devices from a variety of companies as they start to roll out later this year.

Nomad’s Base Station Hub with Magnetic Alignment packs in three 10W charging coils, an 18W USB-C port, and a 7.5W USB-A port; either of those ports can be paired with an optional Apple Watch Mount and your own Apple Watch charging cable if you’d like to charge your Watch. The biggest difference between this version and past Base Stations is the promise of magnetic alignment, which should work with MagSafe-equipped iPhones. Unfortunately, the magnet is quite weak in our experience. You have to move your phone around to search for it on the blank surface, unlike with true MagSafe accessories that make alignment foolproof. The charging pad is not sized properly for the iPhone 13 Pro; the phone’s raised camera bump prevents it from laying flat enough to make the necessary magnetic connection. While the iPhone 13 mini’s dimensions allow the magnets to make a connection, it’s still weaker than if the phone were able to lie totally flat.

Belkin’s Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad with MagSafe is a flat, three-device charging station, and one of the first non-Apple products to support fast charging with the Apple Watch Series 7 (the other is a standalone Watch charger also from Belkin). We don’t care for the flat design; it takes up more room on your nightstand and leaves your phone flat, rather than propped up at an angle, and our tests showed this model charged an iPhone 13 more slowly than our picks from Belkin and Apple.

The Scosche Base3 3-In-1 Wireless Charging Dock has a traditional Qi stand rather than a MagSafe charger, and is less expensive than our picks. But it charges quite slowly—our drained iPhone 13 got to 15% in half an hour and 30% in an hour—and the all-plastic design isn’t as nice. It’s worth considering if you’re on a tighter budget.

Belkin’s Boost Charge 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is our former top pick, and it’s still a good choice. But the biggest downside is its AirPods charging spot: Instead of a divot that matches the size and shape of the charging case, the spot is a round indentation, which makes alignment the slightest bit more difficult. The spot is also located right behind the Apple Watch charger, so if you’re using a closed-band loop—such as the Solo Loop Apple introduced in 2020—you need to fuss with the placement to ensure that the AirPods don’t get knocked out of place.

The ESR HaloLock 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger is a flat pad with two charging spaces. One is a standard Qi charger, and the other is magnetic, allowing it to grab MagSafe-equipped iPhones and cases. Because it’s not an officially licensed MagSafe charger, it’s slower than the Belkin and Apple models we list, but it’s just as fast as other third-party magnetic chargers. In our tests, it brought a fully depleted iPhone 12 battery to 22% in 30 minutes and 48% in an hour. The lack of an Apple Watch charger knocks it out of contention for this guide, although we do appreciate the particularly low price. At the time of publication, it costs $30, and that includes a 18 W USB-C charger.

The Zens Liberty Wireless Charger Glass Edition was the first “place anywhere” wireless charger available to buy, and compared with all the other charging stations we’ve tested, it more closely matches what Apple originally promised with the AirPower station. It has 16 overlapping charging coils, all visible through a clear glass top, and those coils allow you to position two phones or other Qi-charging devices pretty much anywhere on its surface aside from the very edges. This design makes placement almost foolproof, solving one of wireless charging’s biggest drawbacks. We also like that the Liberty uses USB-C instead of a proprietary charger. But it has its downsides. The Liberty is large and expensive (a cheaper version without a glass top is available), it has loud fans that kick on when you’re charging a phone, and it doesn’t support Apple Watch charging without a $45 accessory . So although it’s a neat proof of concept, it’s best suited for early adopters willing to spend extra cash to have the coolest new tech toy.

Nomad’s Base Station Pro is similar in concept to the Zens Liberty though a bit more refined, with a slimmer and sleeker aluminum and leather design. Consisting of 18 charging coils under a roughly 5-by-9-inch surface, it’s made to charge up to three Qi devices at once, no matter where you place them. The Base Station Pro claims to power iPhones at 7.5 watts and all other devices at up to 5 watts, which means that non-Apple devices may not charge at their top speeds. But in our tests, charging was pretty slow across the board, with the iPhone 11 averaging only about 15% in half an hour and 26% in an hour, and the LG V30 hitting 9% and 16% over the same periods. Those numbers for the V30 are particularly low, but the Base Station Pro likely produced such results because it hasn’t been optimized for most Android devices yet; firmware updates may change that down the line. Rather than speed, Nomad and its partner Aira, which designed the charging technology, say the Base Station Pro’s major value proposition is convenience. It’s certainly true that you can very easily throw a phone (or three) onto the pad without worrying about lining them up perfectly, but that convenience isn’t worth the premium price: The Base Station Pro currently costs $200, or $60 more than our top pick. It’s not that hard to get your phone in the right spot with a conventional three-in-one charging pad. We hope that this technology advances quickly and falls in price, but it’s not something that most people should invest in right now.

Mophie’s 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad is another previous favorite and remains a good choice. We like its simple, clean aesthetics and its attention to detail—including features such as rubber elements that ensure your devices won’t slip and a divot for AirPods. But we prefer the stand-style charger of our current picks over this Mophie flat design, and this charger is also a total fingerprint magnet, much like the screen of an iPhone or iPad.

Native Union’s Drop XL Wireless Charger (Watch Edition) has a small footprint and is the least techy-looking of the chargers we tested. Thanks to the neutral gray fabric and rubber surface, it doesn’t scream “gadget” like much of the competition does, and it quickly charged everything we placed on its surface. Aligning AirPods can be difficult because the Drop XL has no clear marking, but other than that, it has no major faults that would prevent us from recommending it if you like the way it looks.

Satechi’s Trio Wireless Charging Pad was just a little slower than our picks in charging both phones we tested. It’s a flat charger, so lining a phone up on the raised rubber ring is slightly harder compared with using a stand, and it takes up a few more square inches on a desk, but we do like the AirPods divot, the fold-up Apple Watch puck (which can also work flat), and the USB-C charger.

The Zens Dual+Watch Aluminum Wireless Charger is a good alternative multi-device charger, particularly if you charge two phones at once on occasion. It charges devices quickly and looks quite nice. But lining up the AirPods case is difficult without any markings or a dedicated divot, and even getting a phone into the right position can take a bit of finagling.

We were excited about STM’s ChargeTree as an affordable alternative to the $100-plus chargers out there, but it turned out to be a rebranded version of a generic design. (We’ve seen at least two other companies serving Instagram ads selling the same thing.) That alone wouldn’t necessarily be disqualifying, but the ChargeTree isn’t MFi-certified, and it doesn’t come with an AC adapter. Taking all those factors together, we can’t recommend it.

You can keep your iPhone topped up on power wherever and however you prefer with the best iPhone chargers on this list. Apple no longer giving you a charger in the box is inconvenient, but it means you've got greater freedom to pick the power brick that works best for your needs.

Take a look at our best wireless chargers and best portable chargers and power banks guides if charging without cables or away from a wall socket is a key consideration for you. But for an overall look at the best iPhone chargers, don't go anywhere.

Ugreen charger

Best for fast charging

Specs : Power: 100W Size: 2.7 x 1.3 x 2.7 inches Weight: 11 ounces Type: USB-C + USB-A

Reasons to buy: + Wide compatibility + 4-in-1 charging (3 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port) + Portable

Reasons to avoid: - Variable power distribution may affect fast charging

The Ugreen Nexode 100W GaN Charger is a 4-port wall charger with three USB-C and one USB-A connection and speeds up to 100W for a single device. Even with all ports in use, one device can charge at 45W. In testing, the Ugreen charged our iPhone 13 battery to 29% in 15 minutes and 54% in 30 minutes. It’s compatible with laptops, phones, tablets, and other accessories. The Ugreen Nexode is travel-friendly with a foldable plug, but it doesn’t double as a power bank like the Anker 733.

While the Ugreen Nexode does reportedly come with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable, check to make sure yours is included. Ours was packaged separately.

Anker 733 GaN (10,000mAh) Power Bank

Best for portable charging

Specs : Power: 65W (wall) + 30W (portable) Size: 4.36 × 2.48 × 1.22 in Weight: 11.29 ounces Type: USB-C + USB-A

Reasons to buy: + Fast charging speed + Doubles as portable power bank for other devices

Reasons to avoid: - Doesn’t come with USB-C to Lightning cable

The Anker 733 offers fast charging (max 65W) as a wall charger and doubles as a portable power bank (max 30W) lasting up to 2.1 on-the-go charges for an iPhone 13. As a wired power source, it’s compatible with any device that can be charged via a USB-A or a USB-C connection, though charging speeds will vary depending on how many ports are in use. Laptops and tablets generally won’t charge when all three are occupied while in power bank mode.

In testing, the Anker charged an iPhone 13 battery 27% in 15 minutes and 51% in a half hour. Note that it only comes with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, so you’ll have to supply your own Lightning cable to charge an iPhone. Anker also has a 24-month warranty.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro Wireless Car Charger

Best for car charging

Specs: Power: 15W Weight: 5.6 ounces Type: MagSafe

Reasons to buy: + Official Apple MagSafe technology for maximum charging speeds + Secure hold for bumpy rides + Works with landscape and portrait alignment

Reasons to avoid: - Not compatible with iPhone 11 and earlier

The Belkin BoostCharge Pro is our pick for car charging, as it mounts on your vehicle’s air vent and securely holds your iPhone in either landscape or portrait orientation for easy viewing and navigation while you drive. Belkin licenses Apple’s MagSafe technology, and the charger comes with a USB-C cable and 20W power unit, so your device can charge wirelessly at up to 15W while plugged into your car’s cigarette lighter. In testing, the charger held our iPhone securely over bumps in the road and reached a 33% charge after 30 minutes.

Note: Belkin specs state that the BoostCharge Pro is compatible with iPhone 12 models and newer.

Apple MagSafe Charger

Best for MagSafe charging

Specs: Power: 15W Size: 3.24 x 3.24 x 0.72 inches Type: MagSafe

Reasons to buy: Official Apple MagSafe technology for maximum charging speeds Attractive design

Reasons to avoid: Difficult to use with iOS 17 standby mode Compatible only with USB-C 20W power adapter sold separately

If you’re an all-Apple-all-the-time iPhone user who prefers wireless charging, Apple’s MagSafe charger is for you. The charger and iPhone magnets are made for each other, meaning this charger snaps easily and securely into place, and like most Apple products, looks sleek. It charges up to 15W on most iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14 models when plugged into a 20W adapter and also works with older Qi-compatible iPhones and most AirPods/AirPods pro cases. In testing, our iPhone 13 reached 25% battery in 30 minutes using the Apple MagSafe plugged into a MacBook Air.

The potential downsides: the Apple MagSafe charger is sold separately and is not detachable from its USB-C cord, so you’ll need a compatible adapter to get maximum charging speeds. It’s also tricky to use with iOS 17 Standby mode since the charging puck lays flat.

ESR HaloLock 10,000mAh Kickstand Wireless Power Bank

Best power bank charger

Specs : Power: 7.5W (wireless) or 20W (wired) Size: 3.9 x 2.5 x 0.7 inches Weight: 7.9 ounces Type: MagSafe compatible + USB-C

Reasons to buy: Wired and wireless charging Doubles as a stand only with charging turned off Allows pass-through wireless charging and dual-device charging

Reasons to avoid: Slow charging compared to other options, even when plugged into wall

The HaloLock Kickstand Wireless Power Bank isn’t particularly fast, but it acts as both a charger and a stand for use at your desk (great for watching content) or for power on the go—it’ll last 1.7 charges on an iPhone 14 Pro and 1.3 charges on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The HaloLock is MagSafe compatible but does not use Apple’s official MagSafe tech, meaning speeds max out at 7.5W (versus 15W) for wireless charging and reach 20W for wired charging via USB-C-to-Lightning.

In testing, our iPhone 13 hit just 5% charge wirelessly after 15 minutes and 10% charge after a half hour via pass-through charging while plugged into a MacBook Air (7% and 20%, respectively, plugged into the wall), making it the slowest charger on our list. That said, the HaloLock holds the iPhone firmly in place while charging wirelessly—it was actually difficult to pry off the magnetic connection.

Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger

Best for charging multiple devices

Specs: Power: 15W Size: 0.4 x 12.3 x 3.2 inches Weight: 10 ounces Type: MagSafe

Reasons to buy: Three MagSafe charging pads to accommodate iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods/AirPods Pro Folds up into travel case Eliminates need for multiple charging cords

Reasons to avoid: Bulky for iPhone-only charging Pricey

Frequent travelers who own an iPhone as well as an Apple Watch or AirPods (or both) will appreciate the Mophie 3-in-1 MagSafe charger, which can charge all three wirelessly at the same time, eliminating the need to carry around multiple charging cords, with speeds up to 15W for compatible devices. The 3-slot MagSafe pad folds up into a handy felt travel case and comes with a USB-C cord and wall adapter. In testing, our iPhone 13 hit 15% charge after 15 minutes and 26% after 30 minutes—slightly more than with the Apple MagSafe charger—though the device was noticeably warm during charging.

Note that the Mophie is best used on a flat surface and may be overkill for those who need to charge an iPhone on its own.

To evaluate charger performance, we measured the charge percentage reached on a dead iPhone battery after 15 minutes and 30 minutes of being plugged in. All testing was completed with an iPhone 13 running iOS 16 .

MagSafe is an Apple technology that uses a ring of magnets on the back of the iPhone 12 and newer to snap wireless chargers and other accessories into place. Note that “Made for MagSafe” chargers officially licensed by Apple have a charging rate up to 15W, while those that are “MagSafe compatible” reach only 7.5W. While MagSafe wireless chargers offers some convenience and work with other compatible devices like the Apple Watch and Apple AirPods as well as older Qi charging, non-MagSafe chargers that utilize USB-C to Lightning charge significantly faster than those with MagSafe technology.

There are a few important factors to consider when selecting an iPhone charger. The first is whether you want a wireless MagSafe or a wired connection that charges via your device’s Lightning port. Note that Apple’s USB-C-to-Lightning cable used with certain Apple and third-party power adapters offers the fastest charging—up to 50% battery in 30 minutes—and while Apple’s MagSafe standard will charge an iPhone 12 and newer at 15W, older iPhones (as well as the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini, and other compatible devices) will juice up more slowly when charged wirelessly.

You’ll also want to consider where and when you’ll need to charge your device, as some chargers double as power banks or are compatible with car charging when you’re on the go. Finally, if you often need to charge several devices at once, consider a 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 charger.

Apple MagSafe Duo Vs. Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger: A MagSafe iPhone Charger Showdown

Both are great — but it’s time to put them in the ring against one another.

wireless travel charger

The ideal travel charger for an iPhone user has to do a few simple things. First, it has to fully support MagSafe , so that wirelessly charges your iPhone (assuming it’s an iPhone 12 or later) as fast as possible, at up to 15 watts. Second, it has to be able to wirelessly charge our other Apple devices, because we don’t travel just with our iPhones. And third, it has to fold up nice and compact, so that it’s easier to pack.

Products in the Guide

Best Travel Charger for Apple Enthusiasts

Best All-in-One Travel Charger for iPhone

And there are really only two travel chargers that check those three boxes: Apple’s MagSafe Duo ($129) and Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe ($150) .

Both of these travel chargers can wirelessly charge multiple devices, they fully support MagSafe, and they both fold up nicely. The kicker is: Apple sells both. So what’s the difference? And which one is best?

two iphones on a desk

Mophie’s travel charger can charge more devices

wireless travel charger

The most obvious difference between Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers is the number of devices that they can charge. The MagSafe Duo can only charge two devices at a time, an iPhone and an Apple Watch or the new AirPods Pro; Mophie’s travel charger, meanwhile, can charge three. It has an extra Qi wireless charger specifically fitted for AirPods (so long as their case supports wireless charging).

Unfortunately, neither of these travel chargers has an extra ports for a wired charging connection (in case you wanted to charge a device the traditional non-wireless way). Also, neither can fast charge an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later) as they don’t have the updated charging puck. Which is a bit of a bummer.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a wall adapter; Apple’s doesn’t

wireless travel charger

Another big difference between the two travel chargers is that Apple doesn’t include the necessarily wall adapter for it to work right out of the box. This isn’t an uncommon trait for the brand, as it’s part of a lot of big tech’s environmental initiative; Apple thinks people already have enough wall adapters at home, so a lot of today’s smartphones, headphones and other gadgets don’t come with one. Apple recommends pairing it with a 20-watt USB-C adapter — the same one used with an iPad Pro or iPad Air — which is going to cost you an extra $19.

Mophie includes a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box with its travel charger, which is nice. It also evens the price between the two travel chargers; if you have to buy the wall adapter for the MagSafe Duo, then the two travel chargers are almost the exact same price.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a carrying case

wireless travel charger

That’s right. As well as including the wall adapter, Mophie also includes a neat little travel case with little compartments to hold the charger, the cable (USB-C to USB-C) and the wall adapter. It’s made out of this felt material that looks and feels really nice (even if it is a little bit of a magnet for lint and pet hair).

All in all, it’s just a really simple yet thoughtful solution for keeping all your travel charger’s necessary components together. The MagSafe Duo, meanwhile, doesn’t come with any kind of travel case.

Apple’s travel charger feels a bit more premium

wireless travel charger

Both Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers feel well-made. They’re made out of soft-touch materials, and magnetically fold together in a way that feels really tight and neat. However, Apple just does it ever-so-better with the MagSafe Duo.

It has a stronger magnetic connection when it folds in on itself (not holding the iPhone via MagSafe, where the strength is about the same for both), and the silicone-like material feels a bit nicer. Also, when you open Mophie’s travel charger up, the inside is made plastic and is flimsy; it just feels a little less premium.

So, which MagSafe travel charger for iPhone is best?

wireless travel charger

Admittedly, there is no clear winner here — as it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and what you need. Mophie’s travel charger is probably the better value, even if it’s a little more expensive; the fact that it comes with the necessary power adapter more than makes up for that price difference, plus it can charge one extra device comes the carrying case is an unnecessary but more-than-welcome addition.

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, however, the MagSafe Duo is probably still going to be your go-to travel charger. It snaps together wonderfully, and feels nicer to the touch. Plus, the fact that the newest AirPods Pro can charge on the Apple Watch puck or the MagSafe charger — so you can use whichever spot is open — means that you likely won’t care as much not having the extra wireless charger.

Rtops wireless charger 3 in 1, what to consider.

When deciding which Apple Watch charging stand to buy, there are a few things you should consider.

Nightstand Mode

Apple Watch’s Nightstand Mode allows you to use your watch like an alarm clock when it's positioned on its side. It’s a nice feature; we especially like the warm hues of its display when it preps you for your alarm to go off. If it’s important to you, look for a stand that lets you use your watch in Nightstand Mode.

Most Apple Watch stands either have charging capabilities of their own or can accommodate your Apple Watch charging puck and allow your device to charge that way. Below, we've identified which charging stations have integrated power and which ones you'll have to connect a charger to.

Portability

If you travel a lot, you may want to think about getting a stand that you can take with you wherever you go. If not, then look for something that will look nice on your bedside table or desk.

We looked at a wide range of reviews from reputable sources like Wirecutter, Lifewire, and Best Products to find the best Apple Watch charging stations and stands on the market today. Below, you'll find Apple Watch charging stations and stands in number of different configurations, with a variety of capabilities, and at multiple price points, all of which have average user ratings of 4 out of 5 stars or higher.

Keep your Apple products charged on the go with our picks for the best portable MagSafe chargers and USB car chargers .

As most Apple Watch users also own an iPhone, it makes sense to charge them at the same time, and this charging stand from Belkin allows you to do exactly that. It has a magnetic arm for holding and charging your Apple Watch, while the attached dock has a lightning connector for your iPhone.

Better yet, the connector’s height is adjustable so that it is usable without taking your phone out of its case. Delivering 12 watts to both charging ports simultaneously, it will have your devices powered up in no time.

Another option for charging both your Apple Watch and iPhone simultaneously, this model from Apple itself will cost you a bit more than most of the other options on the list. However, you may find it’s worth it if you have an iPhone 12 or 13, as it features Apple’s Magsafe system, which ensures proper alignment by magnetically snapping your phone in place, and will charge your phone quicker than other chargers.

On the other side, the Apple Watch charging pad can be used flat or folded up to use in Nightstand Mode. Meanwhile, the whole thing folds in half when not in use, making it very easy to take with you wherever you go.

Of course, if you own an Apple Watch and an iPhone, there is a very good chance that you also have a pair of AirPods in your possession, which will also need charging. The Belkin Boost ChargePro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger lets you power up all your Apple devices wirelessly.

It features a stainless steel arm with magnetic module for your Apple Watch, a Qi pad for your AirPods, and a MagSafe charger that will deliver 15 watts to your iPhone. It’s one of the pricier options on this list, but its elegant design, quality build, and charging abilities—not to mention the fact that it’s officially licensed by Apple—justify the cost.

Like many of Apple’s best products, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock features an elegantly simple design. You can charge your Apple Watch in a flat position, but we prefer it for charging your watch on its side so it can be used in Nightstand Mode. To do this, you simply lift the magnetic center.

In Nightstand Mode, your Apple Watch acts like an alarm clock, displaying the current time and the time your alarm will go off. The display eventually goes dark after remaining inactive, only to slowly illuminate with warm colors as your alarm time approaches in the morning.

The Spigen Apple Watch Stand is an excellent and inexpensive option for holding your Apple Watch and phone that won’t take up much space on your bedside table. It doesn’t come with any charging capabilities, but it has a cutout for holding your Apple Watch’s charging puck so that you naturally charge your watch anytime you place it on the stand’s arm.

It also allows you to use your watch in Nightstand Mode. If you also want to charge your phone, you will have to do so with its charging cable, but we wouldn’t expect wireless charging at this price.

This fun stand from Elago should strike a nostalgic chord with vintage Apple enthusiasts or anyone who came of age in the ’80s. This silicone stand replicates the look of Apple’s original Macintosh computer from 1984—complete with a tiny 3.5-inch floppy disk drive—with your Apple Watch’s screen becoming the display when docked.

You can use your watch in Nightstand Mode while it’s docked, and the stand also holds your Apple Watch charging puck so that it can be easily charged when in the stand. The stand is compatible with all Apple Watches.

This foldable charging station allows you to charge up to three MagSafe devices at once, or just one that you can prop up. It folds down into three panels for easy travel, plus it comes with its own power adapter.

Its smart, wallet-styled design will ensure that you always have everything you need for your watch, phone, or accessories while on the go—so long as those devices are all MagSafe-compatible.

With so many choices on the market, we’ve narrowed down your search by prioritizing features like weight and size for portability, functionality, power, and battery capacity. These are the 14 best portable chargers of 2024 to make sure you stay connected wherever you go.

In fact, with this charger, you can get your smartphone back up to an 80 percent charge in just half an hour. The included lanyard makes it easy to tote around, whether on your wrist or attached to your bag. We also love that it’s crafted out of 90 percent certified recycled plastics with a free e-waste recycling option for your old, unused devices.

Best With Built-in Cords

Charmast portable charger.

It can charge up to six devices at the same time.

The attached cords are short.

The slim and travel-friendly Portable Charger with Built-in Cables on Amazon is our top choice for those who need a variety of included cords for multiple devices. With six outputs and three inputs, this charging device is ideal for people with an array of different types of electronics, from smartphones to tablets, and micro devices. Its lightweight and slim profile make it easy to throw in your bag without taking up too much space. Each included cable can be tucked into the back of the device, keeping things organized so you don’t have to spend time untangling a mess of wires. Check the digital display screen to keep track of how much battery is left on your backup charger so you can plan appropriately (and it will take between four and a half to six hours to fully recharge). When at full capacity, this backup charger can power up your smartphone twice, your tablet up to 1.5 times, and much more.

The Details: 5.71 x 2.68 x 0.51 inches | 0.63 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C, Micro USB, built-in charging USB-A cable (input); 2 USB-A and 1 USB-C and built-in Micro USB, USB-C, and Lightning cables (output)

Most Compact

Tntor portable charger for iphone.

It has a built-in lightning cable for charging iPhones.

Phones with USB-C ports (like Androids and newer iPhones) will need to supply their own C to C cable to charge.

The ultra slim Tntor Portable Charger for iPhone wins the award for “most compact” with a 6-millimeter thickness and credit card size. Specifically designed for iPhone users, the built-in cord means it’s ready to charge and you don’t have to tote around a separate cord. At 5,000 mAh, this charger is carry-on compatible and can charge not just your iPhone, but other lightning-equipped devices including an iPad, iPad mini, and AirPods. This is an ideal charger for those who don’t need to charge multiple devices and only need to top off their iPhone en route to their next destination. It offers one full charge when at 100 percent capacity and requires a three-hour charging time. The Intelligent Control Circuit feature protects your devices from overcharging, as well as other problematic issues such as over-voltage, short circuiting, temperature protection, and over-current.

The Details: 4.84 x 2.6 x .24 inches | 4 ounces | 5,000 mAh | USB-C (input); built-in Lightning cable (output)

Best Wireless

Podoru wireless portable charger.

Paired with a magnetic case, it can charge right on the back of your phone without a cord.

It will only work with a magnetic case (purchased separately) and is compatible with iPhone 12 series and higher.

Indulge in the luxury of leaving your cords behind with the Podoru Wireless Portable Charger that can power up to three devices with its magnetic charging capability. Compact with an impressive capacity to recharge your phone up to two and a half times, it’s an ideal option for travelers or those on the go for long stretches of time. The LED display shows how much battery is left in your charger — and, if you need to top off other devices in addition to your phone, two extra input and output ports allow you to do so. There are eight built-in low temperature ice cores and a protective safety system not just for temperature control, but also short circuit and overcharging protection as well. Thanks to its silicone shell, it’s easy to grip and with a soft exterior that won’t scrape your device when connected magnetically.

The Details: 5.67 x 3.43 x 0.94 inches | 6.5 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best With Stand

Aoguerbe magnetic power bank.

The stand is foldable and compact.

It’s a little bulkier than other models we’ve seen.

We love the folding stand that’s built into the design of the Aoguerbe Magnetic Power Bank. It allows you to charge your iPhone without the hassle of a bunch of cords when paired with a magnetic phone case. Charge up to three devices at a time, with the capacity to bring your iPhone to 100 percent up to two times per fully charged power bank. The included stand folds down to keep the compact profile of the power bank and can be used to keep your phone upright in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. The charger also won’t block your camera lens, so you can easily continue to use your phone while it’s being charged. Built-in temperature control and other safety protection helps ensure this device won’t damage your phone or overheat.

The Details: 4.09 x 2.68 x 0.86 inches | 6.7 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C and Lighting (input); USB-C and USB-A (output)

Best for Tablets

Eggtronic laptop power bank.

It can charge your tablet up to four times.

Due to its powerful capacity, it’s larger and heavier than comparable power bank models.

We love the powerhouse Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank for so many reasons: it has the capacity to charge multiple devices twice as fast as standard models, and boasts a relatively compact size and sleek design. This universally compatible power bank can refuel the battery on not just your smartphone or tablet, but also laptops, cameras, bluetooth devices, and more. The LCD display shows the current battery life so you can stay up to date on its capacity. This durable device is a great travel companion for anyone; from professionals that need to stay in touch on the road, to those exploring the great outdoors on a multi-day camping trip. When it’s time to recharge the power bank itself, it’ll only take about three hours which is impressive for such a powerful device.

The Details: 6.75 x 4 x 0.63 inches | 1.34 lbs | 20,000 mAh | 2 USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best for Laptops

Anker 747 power bank.

It can fully charge an entire MacBook Air.

It’s rather heavy — and expensive — if not using it to charge laptops often.

For travelers who are working en route to their destination and need to keep their laptop consistently charged, the Anker 747 Power Bank is our top choice. Compatible with a wide range of brands including Dell and Apple, this power bank can refuel computer batteries in anywhere from two to three hours. Charge up to four devices at once, and enjoy the long-lasting capacity that can power an iPhone 13 Pro up to five times before needing to be charged itself. Paired with the included Anker 65W 515 wall charger, this power bank can reach 100 percent in two and a half hours versus more than 17 hours without. Built-in sensors offer advanced temperature control to make sure the device doesn’t overheat while the battery management system prevents overcharging.

The Details: 7.2 x 3.23 x 0.95 in | 1.34 pounds | 25,600 mAh | 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A

Best Multi-device Charging

Anker prime 27,650mah power bank.

It charges three devices at once.

This charger is over the mAh limit for traveling on some airplanes, so it’s best to check with the airline before bringing it with you on board.

For those who need a power bank that can charge multiple devices (and fast), the Anker Prime 27,650 mAH Power Bank is a fantastic choice. While not necessary to use, the accompanying app shows you up-to-date stats, and can also help to locate your power bank with sound alerts should you misplace it. This exceptionally functional power bank can recharge a smartphone more than four times and a MacBook Air more than once before needing to be reloaded. Using the dual USB-C ports, the power bank itself can be recharged in less than 40 minutes. As a bonus, this soda-can-sized charging bank comes with its own travel pouch. The built-in active shield prevents the charger from overheating and other safety issues.

The Details: 6.37 x 1.96 x 2.24 inches | 1.47 lbs | 27,650 mAh |  USB-C, Lightning (input); USB-C, USB-A (output)

Best Fast Charging

Ugreen 145w power bank.

It can charge a MacBook Air in 90 minutes.

While compact, it’s a bit heavier than other models.

Not only does the Ugreen 145W Power Bank charge devices quickly, but it also can be charged back to 100 percent in under two hours using the two-way fast charging. This requires an additional purchase of a 65W charger . Because it has 145 watts in output, it can recharge a laptop more than once and a smartphone more than five times all at a rapid speed. The smart digital display keeps you in the loop with how much battery is left in the power bank. It’s also compatible with so many devices, from smartphones to drones, that you won’t be limited with what you can charge as you travel. With three ports, you can charge a few devices at a time as well.

The Details: 6.3 x 3.18 x 1.05 inches | 1.11 lbs | 25,000 mAh | 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A (output); 1 USB-C (input/output)

Best LED Display

Vnbbt magnetic wireless power bank.

The display shows both the available charge left on the device and the progress of the item it’s charging.

It’s not compatible with non-magnetic phone cases.

Take the guesswork out of charging when using the Vnbbt Magnetic Wireless Power Bank, thanks to its incredibly accurate LED display feature. It can be fully charged for your travels within two and a half to four hours. Its ultra compact, lightweight design makes it easy to bring along with you. The material is non-slip so you don’t have to worry about grip being an issue while using the magnetic charger paired with a magnetic phone case. The display is simple, quickly informing you of how much charge is left to go and how much is on the power bank itself so you can plan accordingly. Charge your iPhone in less than 45 minutes and power up two other devices at the same time.

The Details: 7.87 x 3.94 x 0.79 inches | 8.1 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C (input/output), USB-A (output), and magnetic wireless charging

Best for Android

Iwalk small usb c portable charger.

It’s lipstick-sized and very portable.

The battery life isn’t that impressive compared to other power banks.

Specifically designed for Android users, this tiny portable charger easily fits in a bag or even your pocket. The iWalk charger is cordless as well, so you don’t need to provide a cord or untangle wires when you want to use it; simply plug it directly into the USB-C port. Although there isn’t an LED display to show the percentage of battery left, there are indicator lights to track the power level. It’s designed to prevent over-charging, short circuiting, and temperature control while using as well, so you can have peace of mind if you need to step away. In general, it takes approximately two and a half hours to recharge this portable device.

The Details: 3 x 1.8 x 1 inches | 0.071 ounces | 4,500 mAh | USB-C (input), USB-C (output)

Best With A/C Outlet

Sinkeu portable laptop phone charger.

It includes an actual plug as well as a cord for charging via a car cigarette lighter.

There are no slots for a USB-C.

For a power bank with an actual built-in plug, the SinKeu 65 Watt Portable Laptop Phone Charger is our top pick because of its portability and versatility. This power bank is fantastic for charging laptops, tablets, and other compatible devices like certain camera batteries (65 watts and under) that need a typical plug port. The 12V port is great for recharging speakers and other devices that require that output, while the 5V port is perfect for refueling your cell phone up to eight times before needing to be recharged itself. For compatible laptop models, it can provide a full charge twice, making this a great option for travelers with a wide array of devices. The included cigarette lighter plug makes it possible to recharge this power bank in your car as well. To fully recharge, it takes approximately four hours.

The Details: 6.8 x 3.8 x 1.8 inches | 1.1 lbs | 24,000 mAh | 2 USB-A, 110V AC outlet, 15V (input), 12V (output)

Best Colors

Charmast small portable charger.

It’s small and comes in a fun spectrum of colors.

It’s difficult to plug your phone into the charger if you have a case.

We love the colors and size of the Charmast Small Portable Charger that can easily fit in your pocket or purse. This charger has the ability to be fully recharged within an hour and a half when using a 9V-2A fast charger (or three hours with a standard one). Although it doesn’t have the capacity to fully power your smartphone back to 100 percent, it can provide up to 65 percent charge which is a great option for most travelers who just need to top up a device throughout their journey. It can, however, recharge AirPods up to six times. With no additional cords needed, plug it directly into your phone’s lightning port (and it’s also offered with a USB-C instead for Google, Samsung or iPhone 15 devices). With colors like pink, green, blue, orange, black, and white, you can match this portable charger to your phone’s case (or whatever suits your mood!)

The Details: 1.38 x 3.03 x 0.97 inches | 4.7 ounces | 5,000 mAh | USB-C (input), Lightning port (output)

Best With Wall Plug

Brand q ultra slim portable charger.

It’s ultra slim and offers 5-in-1 types of charging.

The built-in cords are stiff and not easy to manipulate.

We love that the built-in wall plug on the Q Slim Portable Charger folds into the power bank to keep a slim profile for transport and that this option comes with its own case. With three included cords, this universal charger is ideal for all types of phones, and you won’t have to bring additional cords along on your adventures. Most phones can be charged between two and a half to four times before needing to recharge the power bank. The included “Intelligent Power Management IC” makes sure your devices will be protected from short circuit, overheating, and overcurrent issues while in use. Another great feature is that you can charge your phone from the power bank while also charging the power bank from the wall plug.

The Details: 6.29 x 2.95 x 0.6 inches | 12.1 ounces |  10,000 mAh | Micro USB, AC (input); Lightning, USB-C, Micro USB (output)

Tips for Buying Portable Chargers

Consider charge potential and timing.

When shopping for a portable power bank, one of the main features to look out for is the capacity for fully charging your devices, especially your smartphone. If you have long travel days with little opportunity to plug your phone in and your backup charger can only offer half a charge to top it off, that may not work for you. Another thing to consider is how long it will take to recharge each of your important devices, as well as the length of time it will take to recharge the power bank itself. Most people can recharge a power bank overnight if it takes more than a couple of hours, but you need to look at your precise needs while on the go.

Decide how much capacity you need

All of the numbers referring to capacity in mAh and watt hours can be a little tricky to understand when deciding what you’ll need. The term mAh means “milliampere-hour” and measures the units of electric charge, or how much power it can hold. This will be the difference between being able to charge just one device at a time versus multiple, and/or charging your phone multiple times or even a laptop at all. If you just need to top off your phone and keep it from getting to zero percent, something below 5,000mAh should do the trick. If you need to charge your phone constantly or have more than one device, something more than 10,000mAh might be for you.

Since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have rules for rechargeable batteries and power banks measured in the max watt hours allowed, you’ll need to know how to convert the mAh listed for the power bank or charger into watt hours to see if your device can come along with you. To do this, you’ll need to multiply milliamp hours by volts then divide by 1,000. So, if you take the Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank listed above, it’s 20,000mAh at 5V, making it equivalent to 100 watt hours.

The FAA and TSA state that any spare battery with more than 100 watt hours or 27,000mAh needs to have approval from the airline.

Look at the types and numbers of ports

One of the most important aspects of choosing a power bank is to make sure it will be compatible with your devices. The last thing you want is to purchase a back-up charger that’s only suitable for an iPhone when you have an Android. There are numerous options that offer more than one type of port. The most common inputs and outputs are USB-A and USB-C, as well as lightning ports (for Apple devices). Some models offer a wall plug or cigarette lighter adapter as well, perfect for those who need to charge a device from the car or have to charge something with a physical plug.

It’s important to note that regulations will have lightning ports outdated for future iPhones due to the European Union’s ruling that all smartphones need to have the USB-C charging port in common.

A portable charger or power bank is a great back-up solution to ensure you don’t run out of battery on your devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They provide an extra lithium-ion battery-powered source that can connect to a wide array of devices, depending on their ports or magnetic charging capabilities. When connected, they transfer their stored energy to the electronic device plugged in. Typically, they are small enough to fit in your bag without taking up too much space, and some are even compact enough to fit in your pocket.

Yes, it’s possible to bring most portable chargers on an airplane, though there are restrictions to abide by: it’ll have to stay in your carry-on luggage that you’ll have with you in the cabin, as it can’t be in a checked bag. It also can’t possess more than 100Wh (watt-hours) or 27,000 mAh capacity. If your power bank has a larger capacity than this, you’ll need approval from the airline.

The best power banks to turn to when your iphone's running out of juice.

We tested several power banks specifically designed for iPhones, AirPods, and Apple Watch, and these are our top few picks. We recommend some of these solely for their portable form factor and others for how powerful they are. But these are great under $100 solutions for replenishing your Apple tech.

Satechi Quatro Wireless Power Bank

a photo of the Satechi Quatro Wireless Power Bank

This power bank can wirelessly charge an Apple Watch, another Qi-compatible device, and two devices connected to USB ports simultaneously. The good thing about it is that it is a more convenient alternative to carrying a rat’s nest of charging cables and wall warts if you travel, as you can top off multiple devices without finding a power outlet. At $100, though, it isn’t an economical choice as you can get similar 10,000 mAh power banks much cheaper than the Quatro. Also, its smartwatch charger only works with the Apple Watch, so this won’t be of much value to you if you need to charge non-Apple devices. But if you’re fully trapped inside the Apple ecosystem, the Satechi Quatro is a great one-stop solution for all your Cupertino tech. Read More —Andrew Liszewski

Satechi Duo Wireless Charger Power Stand

a photo of the satechi duo

I found the Satechi Duo Wireless Charger brimming with functionality. It offers a nice stand for docking your phone vertically as it charges. This unique build comes in handy for hands-free video calling or taking meetings. The stand is also fully adjustable, so you can decide at what angle you want to use it. While it supports your phone on its stand, it offers space for your AirPods and Apple Watch on its base. Totaling 10,000 mAh, the Satechi Duo offers 10W of fast charging power across all three devices simultaneously.

Even at just 50% charge, it could replenish my iPhone 12 Pro Max and Moto Razr+ entirely and still had sufficient juice left.

Belkin BoostCharge Power Bank 20K

a photo of the belkin boostcharge

The Belkin BoostCharge power bank is a solid device that charges multiple devices simultaneously. This isn’t one of those small, inconspicuous portable batteries you can tuck in your jeans pocket. It is an unashamedly big and beefy power bank that offers a total of 15W that can power up to three devices. It provides two 12W and one 15W port, and, as the name suggests, you get 20,000 mAh on the BoostCharge.

I could wirelessly charge my iPhone 12 Pro Max from 23% to 100% in around 20 minutes, which is pretty impressive and in line with the company’s claims of charging an iPhone 15 Pro in 35 minutes. I used a Type-C cable to recharge my iPad with this power bank, but it was much slower. My iPad Pro went from 17% to fully charged in around two hours.

Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Portable Wireless Charger

a photo of the Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Portable Wireless Charger

Anker’s PowerCore Magnetic 5K is a portable wireless charger with a 5,000 mAh battery that attaches to the back of any iPhone 12 model using magnets. It is also the smallest portable wireless charger we’ve tested to date. If you spend more than a grand on the latest iPhone for $40, the PowerCore Magnetic 5K is a no-brainer accessory. Even if Apple releases a thinner MagSafe charging solution that offers faster charging times and a more svelte design, it will undoubtedly be considerably more expensive than what Anker already has. These are the 11 best iPhone chargers you can buy in 2023

Jesse Hollington

Let's face it, a charger is probably the most important accessory you'll ever buy for your iPhone. After all, most of us need to charge our iPhones at least once a day — sometimes even more — so it's important to have the right chargers around to get the job done.

Thankfully, the popularity of the iPhone means there's no shortage of options for both wired and wireless charging — and you have even more now that the iPhone 15 has finally made the switch to USB-C .

While a USB-C power brick will give you the fastest possible charging speeds, many folks consider wireless the way to go these days. If you have enough wireless charging stands in your life, you'll likely never need to worry too much about charging speeds, as you'll be able to regularly dock your iPhone in places where it can grab more power — and iOS 17's new StandBy mode is going to encourage you to do that even more often.

Still, the number of options to charge your iPhone can be pretty overwhelming, so we've rounded up a few of the best, along with some tips at the end for what to look for in an iPhone charger.

Apple MagSafe Charger

The best wireless iphone charger.

  • Portable and versatile
  • You an easily use your iPhone while charging
  • Compatible with a wide range of stands and accessories
  • Not ideal as a stationary desktop charger on its own
  • Power adapter not included

While Apple's official MagSafe charger may not be the flashiest wireless charger available, it has a few things going for it that make it a great pick for anybody who doesn't have more specific needs. Not only do you get an Apple-certified MagSafe charger that's guaranteed to work with your iPhone, but unlike most magnetic chargers, you don't have to stop charging when you want to pick up your iPhone to check something, since the charger is small and light enough to stay attached.

This has the downside of making it a less-than-ideal desktop charger for when you just want to grab your iPhone and go. However, its popularity means that there's an impressive collection of accessories that are designed specifically to fit Apple's charging disc, from flat table docks to a wide variety of stands and car mounts. This lets you create your own custom charging solutions, and you can even change things up once in a while by moving the MagSafe charger between an assortment of accessories that are much more affordable than buying multiple chargers.

Spigen Onetap Pro MagFit Wireless Charging Stand

The best iphone charger for standby mode.

  • Adjustable stand lets you choose the viewing angle
  • Sturdy rubber feet keep stand from moving around
  • Only supports 7.5W wireless charging
  • Lack of MagSafe means StandBy modes won't be remembered

Apple's StandBy mode is one of the coolest and most useful features in iOS 17, and it may be enough to change the way you charge your iPhone. Prior to StandBy, it didn't really matter if you laid your iPhone flat or propped it up on a MagSafe charging stand, but now StandBy gives you a reason to opt for the latter.

While there are plenty of MagSafe and MagSafe-compatible charging stands on the market, not all of them let you take full advantage of what StandBy has to offer. However, Spigen's OneTap Pro is one of the best picks for this as it provides wireless charging, which is necessary to trigger StandBy, as well as an adjustable viewing angle and grippy rubber feet to keep it from sliding around when you're interacting with your docked iPhone.

The only downside is that it's not officially MagSafe-certified, which not only means you'll be limited to 7.5-watt charging speeds, but also that your iPhone won't be able to remember the view you've set when docked and bring it up again automatically. However, we think that's a reasonable trade-off considering how affordable this charging stand is compared to fully MagSafe-certified alternatives, most of which aren't adjustable.

ESR HaloLock Kickstand Wireless MagSafe Charger

The best portable iphone charging stand.

  • Portable charger and stand combo
  • Long USB-C cable included
  • Very affordable
  • Only supports 7.5W charging

While Apple's official MagSafe charger is one of the most portable wireless chargers you can buy, ESR's HaloLock has it beat in two important areas. The first is the price; since it's not MagSafe-certified, there's no premium "Apple tax" to contend with.

More significantly, though, ESR's HaloLock also has another trick up its sleeve. There's a built-in kickstand that lets you prop your iPhone up while charging, letting you take advantage of Apple's new StandBy mode wherever you happen to be.

The package also includes a generous 5-foot removable USB-C to USB-C cable, although you'll have to supply your own charging brick or other power source, such as a laptop USB-C port. You won't get to enjoy StandBy mode unless it's plugged in, but you can still remove the cable and use it as a magnetically attached kickstand for watching movies or participating in video calls. The detachable cable also means you can plug that same cable directly into the iPhone 15's USB-C port when you want the fastest charging speeds, which makes the slower 7.5-watt wireless charging far less of a compromise.

Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter

The best official wired iphone charger.

  • Official Apple adapter
  • Clean and simple design
  • Durable and reliable
  • 20W limit makes it less useful for other devices

Although you can find a wide assortment of USB-C power bricks from dozens of other manufacturers, Apple's official USB-C power adapter remains an extremely popular pick among iPhone users for its clean and simple aesthetic. The traditional Apple white and gray design offers no extra frills like LED status lights or extra ports, but that's OK because it does exactly what it's supposed to do: send 20 watts of power to your iPhone over a USB-C to Lightning cable or USB-C to USB-C cable, although you'll have to supply that part yourself. It's a durable and reliable solution, and the only real downside is that the prongs don't fold in for travel.

Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

The best multi-device iphone charging station.

  • 15W MagSafe iPhone charging
  • Can fast-charge an Apple Watch and AirPods
  • Attractive design
  • Angle of charging pads can't be adjusted

If you're like many iPhone owners, you probably have other Apple devices in your life, like a set of AirPods or an Apple Watch. In that case, Belkin's 3-in-1 stand provides an elegant alternative to fussing with multiple chargers to keep all these devices powered up. You'll also find everything in the box you need to get started, including the power adapter, which discretely connects into the back for a clear and uncluttered look.

This stand provides full-speed MagSafe wireless charging for both the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models, plus a charging spot on the base designed for your AirPods or AirPods Pro. However, it's actually a standard 5W Qi wireless charger, so you can use it to juice up anything that can fit there — even a second iPhone. There's enough room to turn even an iPhone 15 Pro Max to landscape orientation so you can take advantage of StandBy mode alongside your Apple Watch. However, the charging discs aren't adjustable, so you won't be able to tilt your iPhone up or down to get a better view.

Anker 511 Charger (Nano 3)

The best compact iphone charger.

  • 30W of power guarantees maximum charging speeds
  • Extremely compact size for travel
  • Foldable prongs
  • Folding prong mechanism can wear out after extended use

While Apple's 20W USB-C power adapter may be the most popular choice, it's far from the only game in town. If you're looking for something even more portable that's capable of delivering maximum charging speeds to an iPhone 15 Pro Max, then Anker's 511 is a great choice. You only get a single USB-C power port, but it's capable of putting out 30 watts of power — enough to satisfy the 27-watt draw of the largest iPhone Pro models from recent years.

Anker's 511 is also available in a variety of fun colors, with prongs that fold in for ultra-compact travel. The only downside is that some folks have reported problems with the folding mechanism wearing out after extended use, resulting in the prongs no longer locking into place when extended, in which case you'll have to be more careful when plugging it in.

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe

The best travel iphone charger.

  • Props up Apple Watch in Nightstand mode
  • Includes carrying case for travel
  • Doesn't support Apple Watch fast charging

Mophie's 3-in-1 travel charger is an ideal accessory for Apple fans who frequently finds themselves on the road. The 15-watt MagSafe charging disc for your iPhone is joined by an Apple Watch and AirPods charger in a strip that folds up into a compact package for travel and features a soft heather gray microsuede fabric on the back that's matched by a stylish carrying case that provides room for the included USB-C charging brick and cable.

As with most other chargers like this, the space designed for your AirPods is actually just a 5-watt Qi charger, so you can drop any other Qi-compatible device on there, from an alternative set of earbuds like Sony's WF-1000XM5 to another family member's smartphone. That won't charge up as much as an iPhone on the 15W MagSafe disc, but it should be more than enough to top it up overnight.

Anker 637 Magnetic Desktop Charging Station (MagGo)

The best desktop iphone charging station.

  • Doubles as a USB/AC power station
  • Up to 65W charging
  • Doesn't support 15W MagSafe charging

Anker has a solid lineup of affordable MagSafe-compatible chargers — with "compatible" meaning that they can attach magnetically to the rings on your iPhone, but won't provide 15W charging. However, the slower charging speeds may be worth living with for the Anker 637, since its unassuming design actually hides some other powerful features.

From the front, the charging station doesn't look like much more than a stylish magnetic charging dock, but around back you'll find three AC power ports, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports so it can replace a power bar and help reduce the clutter on your desk. The USB-C ports are also capable of delivering up to 65 watts of power, which is more than enough to keep a MacBook or other standard laptop juiced up without the need to plug in a separate power brick.

ESR 15W Car Charger with MagSafe + CryoBoost

The best wireless iphone car charger.

  • 15W MagSafe charging
  • Built-in cooling system
  • Perfect for your car
  • A bit pricey

You've probably noticed that your iPhone can warm up quite a bit when using magnetic charging, and that can be even more apparent with faster 15-watt MagSafe charging. This is just the laws of physics at work, as the energy that doesn't make it into your iPhone has to go somewhere, so it's released as heat. While that's likely a minor annoyance at your desk, it can be a real problem when you're in a hot car. Fortunately, ESR has come up with a way to help your iPhone keep its cool.

Thanks to the company's CryoBoost technology, this 15W MagSafe car charging dock powers up your iPhone while directing the heat away from it using fans and other internal cooling techniques. This also allows you to more effectively take advantage of full 15W MagSafe charging speeds, since your iPhone is less likely to slow down its power draw to avoid overheating.

While it won't compensate for a lack of air conditioning, it won't generate extra heat, and it will save you from having to fiddle with your vents on a long road trip to make sure they're blowing on your iPhone.

Ugreen 140W Nexode USB-C GaN Charger

The best wired iphone charger for multiple devices.

  • 140W of charging power
  • Three charging ports
  • Sleek, functional design
  • Might be overkill for some people

Although single-port USB-C iPhone chargers are fine when you only need to plug in your iPhone, it can be a hassle to juggle multiple power adapters and power bars when you're trying to charge your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook all at once. Thankfully, advances in charging technology have allowed companies to produce surprisingly compact chargers that can deliver all the power you need.

Ugreen's 140W Nexode charger delivers more than enough power to charge all of your devices over USB-C at maximum speeds, right up to a 16-inch MacBook Pro (with Apple's USB-C to MagSafe 3 charging cable). Like most multiport power adapters, the 140 watts is shared across all three ports, but you'll be able to charge your iPhone 15 Pro at top speeds and still supply 100 watts to fast-charge a MacBook Pro, or even connect two MacBooks to deliver 65-watt charging to both.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack

The best iphone battery and charger combo.

  • Supports 15W MagSafe charging when plugged in
  • Tight iPhone integration for optimal power management
  • Can reverse charge from iPhone
  • Requires a Lightning cable for charging

Apple's MagSafe Battery Pack is unlike any other magnetic iPhone battery pack on the market. For one thing, it's the only battery pack that's MagSafe-certified and can therefore provide full-speed 15W wireless charging. However, that only happens when it's plugged in; while using it as a battery pack, it will power your iPhone at a considerably more modest 5 watts.

However, that's not as much of a problem as it seems, since Apple's battery pack is also tightly integrated into iOS to maximize power efficiency. Unlike other MagSafe battery packs, your iPhone knows when Apple's MagSafe battery is attached, so it will continue conserving power rather than assuming it has a relatively unlimited AC supply to draw from. It's best to think of Apple's MagSafe battery pack as an extra capacity tank for your iPhone, rather than something that you'll use to recharge the internal battery of a dead iPhone.

Unfortunately, the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack hasn't made the USB-C transition yet, so you'll need a Lightning cable to power it or charge it back up. However, it also uniquely supports reverse wireless charging from any MagSafe-compatible iPhone, including the iPhone 15 lineup. That means you can plug your USB-C cable into your iPhone 15 while the MagSafe battery pack is attached and it will charge up from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

The obvious difference between wired and wireless charging is that wired charging involves plugging a cable directly into your iPhone while wireless charging lets you set your iPhone down on an appropriate charging pad or disc to transfer power using magnetic induction.

On most iPhone models, wired charging requires a USB-A or USB-C to Lightning cable. The latest iPhone 15 models have switched out the Lightning port for a USB-C port, and can be charged with any standard USB-A-to-USB-C or USB-C-to-USB-C cable.

Wireless charging requires either a Qi compatible wireless charger or an Apple-certified MagSafe charger. Nearly any wireless charger on the market can be used with an iPhone, but they're not all created equal.

Wired charging is always more power-efficient than wireless charging, and if you're using the right adapter, it's guaranteed to be much faster. However, it's not as convenient.

Qi is a standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) that offers several different "profiles" for power deliver. While the Base Power Profile (BPP) can only deliver 5-watt charging, there's an Extended Power Profile (EPP) that can go up to 15 watts. However, Apple's implementation of EPP limits iPhone charging speeds to 7.5 watts, regardless of the Qi charger used.

In 2020, Apple developed MagSafe, a custom extension of the Qi EPP standard that's capable of delivering up to 15 watts of power, but only with an Apple-certified MagSafe charger. However, this isn't just about selling more Apple-certified chargers; since wireless charging is very inefficient, it's important to ensure proper alignment of the charging coils between the pad and the device to avoid wasting energy and generating the kind of excessive heat that would require devices to slow down charging to avoid damage.

The magnets in Apple's MagSafe technology ensure that the charger is perfectly aligned for optimal charging. Apple has worked with the WPC to roll this into a new Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) as part of the Qi2 standard . This is essentially an open-source version of MagSafe that will be managed by the WPC rather than Apple. The first Qi2 charging accessories with MPP support have already been announced and should be appearing on the market in late 2023 and early 2024.

Apple introduced wireless charging to its iPhone lineup in 2017 with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. Every model released since then has supported at least standard Qi wireless charging at 7.5-watt speeds.

In 2020, Apple added MagSafe to the entire iPhone 12 lineup, offering 15-watt charging with an Apple-certified MagSafe charger. This has been a staple on its mainstream iPhones since then, although it's still missing on the 2020 and 2023 iPhone SE models, which are limited to the same 7.5-watt Qi speeds as their spiritual predecessor, the iPhone 8.

All MagSafe chargers are fully compatible with the Qi standard. The iPhone SE and pre-iPhone 12 models without MagSafe will treat them as a normal Qi charger and draw only 7.5 watts. MagSafe chargers can also be used to charge any other Qi-compatible devices.

According to Apple's official specifications, all recent iPhone models can charge from zero to 50% in around 30 minutes when using wired charging with a proper 20W or better USB-C power adapter. However, that doesn't mean you'll get to 100% in an hour.

To preserve battery health, the iPhone slows down its charging when it reaches 50%, and then slows things down even more above 80%. As a rule of thumb, you'll typically get to 80% in an hour, and then have to wait about another hour to top up that last 20%. These slower speeds avoid excessive wear on the battery.

Those higher-range times can also vary depending on which iPhone model and charger you're using. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a larger battery than its smaller counterpart, which means that, all other things being equal, it will take longer to charge to full capacity. Fortunately, the iPhone 15 Pro Max can also draw more charging current, so using a 27-watt or better power adapter will give you the best possible charging speeds for that larger model.

Lastly, while MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging is rated at 15 watts, your actual charging times will be comparatively slower since wireless charging is much less efficient at transferring power. A 15W MagSafe charger actually juices up your iPhone at about half the speed of a 20W wired USB-C connection. Wireless is great for overnight charging, or when you're sitting around at home or the office, but if you're in a hurry, plugging in with a USB-C adapter will always give you a faster charge.

Don't let the Lightning port on older iPhone models trick you into thinking that Apple requires you to use an Apple-certified charger for your iPhone. While you should definitely purchase your charger and Lightning cable from a reputable brand, what's on the other end of that cable is a standard USB connection that will work with any USB-certified charger — of which there are hundreds, if not thousands, available. For the fastest charging, pick up a USB-C charger that can put out at least 20 watts to 30 watts of power. However, if you're only charging your iPhone overnight, even an older USB-A charger can still get the job done — and the slower charging will be better for your battery's health, too.

Why you should buy the Apple iPad Mini 2021 The latest generation of the Apple iPad Mini was released in 2021, but it's still featured in our roundup of the best iPads because it's the model that you should buy if you want a smaller and more compact version of Apple's tablets. Its 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display is smaller than the screens of its peers, but it's still big enough to enjoy watching streaming shows and browsing websites, while allowing you to use the device with one hand. Unlike its predecessor, there's no Home button, so the Touch ID sensor is instead built into the power button at the side of the Apple iPad Mini 2021.

Wireless charging isn't nearly as cool as it sounds. It's not exactly wireless—a cord runs from an outlet to the charging pad—and it won't charge your smartphone faster than plugging it in with a good ol’ cord. Still, I'm always disappointed when I test a smartphone that doesn't support it. I've gotten used to simply plopping my phone down on a pad every night, and fishing for a cable in the dark feels like a chore. It's pure convenience more than anything else.

After testing more than 100 products over the past few years, my colleague Simon Hill and I have sorted the good from the bad ( there are certainly bad ones ) and have identified the best wireless chargers. There are so many styles, shapes, and build materials that you have options, including stands, pads, wireless battery packs, and models that even double as headphone stands.

You’ll see “ Compatible with iPhones and Android phones ” under each slide, and that means the charger has a standard charging speed of 7.5 watts for iPhones or 10 watts for Android phones (including Samsung Galaxy phones). If it charges faster or slower, we'll indicate it. We've tested these with multiple devices, but there's always a chance your phone will charge slowly or won’t work because the case is too thick or its charging coil doesn't align well with the charger.

The Best Stand

I love it when wireless chargers try to be more than just boring plinths. It's something that sits in your home—it should at least look nice! That's why I love the PowerPic Mod from Twelve South. The charger itself is embedded inside a clear acrylic resin. What makes it special is you can add a 4 x 6 photo or custom artwork of your own choosing over the charging module and keep the image secure with a transparent magnetic cover. Slot the charger into the base, plug in the USB-C cable, and that's it. Now you've got a wireless charger that doubles as a photo frame when it's not in use. Just remember to print a photo (and supply a 20-watt power adapter ).

Compatible with iPhones and Android phones.

The Best Pad

If you have an iPhone with MagSafe , you should get the Base One , which is officially certified to dish out the maximum 15 watts needed for fast charging on iPhones. If not, the standard Base here (which still has MagSafe support) will recharge MagSafe and non-MagSafe iPhones at 7.5 watts, and Android phones up to 15 watts. There's an integrated 2-meter USB-C cable in the box but no power adapter (I like this Nomad 20-watt one ).

The pad itself has a metal chassis with piano-black glass surrounding the wireless charging pad. It's hefty, so it won't slide around on a desk either. Compatible with iPhones, fast 15-W charging for Android phones.

Best Cheap Wireless Charger

Anker's pad and stand prove you don't need to spend much for wireless charging. They're both made from plastic with a rubbery finish on the bottom to prevent slips and slides, though it's not too grippy. A tiny LED lights up blue when it’s charging and flashes to indicate there’s a problem. We prefer stands over pads, because you can easily see your phone notifications, but Anker’s pad is so cheap you could grab a few to scatter around your home. Both come with a 4-foot MicroUSB cable, but you have to supply the power adapter. That’s not a big surprise at this price. Most importantly, they'll charge your phone every bit as capably as the other options in this guide.

Best Qi2 Charger

It is early days for the new Qi2 standard , but in a nutshell, it adds MagSafe-style magnetic charging and promises a 15-watt charging rate. Few phones beyond Apple’s MagSafe lineup (iPhone 12 and later) work with the magnets today, but Qi2 is backward compatible. You can put any Qi-certified phone on a Qi2 charger and charge, though it may not charge at the maximum 15-watt rate. This simple pad from Anker sticks well, has a durable aluminum casing that stays relatively cool, and has a 5-foot USB-C cable permanently attached.

A Great MagSafe Stand

Practical and good-looking, this wireless charging stand is Qi2 certified . It’s a weighty mix of metal and glass in black or white, with padding in all the right places. You can pick up or place your phone one-handed, and the stand doesn’t slide around or topple easily. It has a ring of powerful magnets to hold your MagSafe iPhone or Qi2-certified Android phone in portrait or landscape orientation (handy for StandBy mode) and can charge at up to 15 watts. You get a nice braided cable in the box but will need a 20-watt charger , which is a bit cheeky at this price.

Best Car Charger

Don't fiddle with cables again, even in the car. This versatile car mount from iOttie comes in two flavors, a suction cup for the dashboard/windshield or a CD/vent mount that clips into place. Adjust the height of the feet so your phone is always in the sweet spot for charging. The arms close around your phone automatically when it hits the trigger on the back of the mount, so you can place your device one-handed. (A release bar extends on either side so you can take your phone out again.) The mount has a MicroUSB port to plug in the supplied cable; just stick the other end in your car’s power socket. It handily includes a second USB-A port you can use to charge another phone. Read our Best Car Phone Mounts and Chargers guide for more recommendations.

Nimble Apollo Wireless Charger

An Eco-Friendly Charger

The silicone surface of this wireless charger easily accumulates dust and lint, but that might not matter to you if you're shopping for the most eco-friendly charger. It's made of recycled silicone, the texture of which helps keep phones from sliding off the surface. The rest of it is made with post-consumer plastic and alloy, and even the packaging is plastic-free. Better yet, if you have an iPhone 12 or newer with MagSafe, the magnets inside the Apollo will keep your iPhone aligned perfectly for more efficient charging, even if they're not as strong as normal MagSafe wireless chargers. It also comes with a 20-watt charging adapter and cable, which is great value.

Google Pixel Wireless Charging Stand Gen 2

Best for the Nightstand (and Pixel Phones)

Chances are you don't want too many LEDs in your face when you're sleeping. The LED on the second-gen Pixel Stand briefly lights up when you place a phone on it and disappears quickly. This charger is best paired with a Google Pixel smartphone because it enables extra perks, like turning your Pixel into a sunrise alarm clock that sees the screen glowing orange right before your alarm starts to ring, mimicking the sunrise. You can also convert your phone into a digital photo frame with Google Photos albums populating the screen, and have it trigger Bedtime Mode, which turns on Do Not Disturb and makes your screen gray to help you put your phone down . There's a built-in fan to keep your device cool as it fast-charges; it's audible in a quiet room, but you can turn the fan off in your Pixel's settings to keep it silent. It comes with a cable and adapter.

This charger still works great with other smartphones, you just won't be able to access many of those Pixel features. The biggest downside? Charging only works in portrait orientation. Oh, and it's overpriced. The good news is the first-gen Pixel Stand is still available for much less; you can recharge your phone in landscape and portrait orientation, and I daresay it looks more interesting .

Compatible with iPhones, fast 23-W (Pixel 6 Pro, 7 Pro, and 8 Pro), 21-W (Pixel 6, 7, and 8), and 15-W charging for Android phones.

A 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger

Ah, the holy Apple trinity. If you have an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods (or honestly, any kind of earbuds with a wireless charging case), you'll love this T-shaped Belkin stand. It's a MagSafe charger, so it'll suspend your magnet-enabled iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, or iPhone 15 as if it's floating in mid-air (and charge it at the fastest 15-watt speed, too). The Apple Watch will stick to its little puck, and you can recharge your earbuds at the base. It's excellent. Belkin has a pad version if you'd like, but it takes up more room and isn't as fun as the tree (what I call the stand). Find more options in our Best Apple 3-in-1 Wireless Chargers guide.

Fast 15-W charging for iPhone 12 or newer, made for Apple devices.

★ A cheaper 3-in-1 MagSafe charger: I've been surprisingly happy with this Monoprice MagSafe 3-in-1 Stand ($40) . It feels cheap, but the MagSafe charger works well for MagSafe iPhones, and the base recharges my AirPods Pro with no issues. You have to supply your own Apple Watch charger and install it in the designated area, which was easy enough. It's hard to complain considering the price.

Devices charging on the Courant Mag 3 charging pad

A Stylish 2-in-1 Charger

Courant makes some of the prettiest wireless chargers out there, and my new favorite is the Mag:3 Classics/Essentials. I tried it in leather, but you can also save some cash with the linen version. There are two chargers here, but you can't fit two phones side by side. It's instead meant to be for one smartphone and one wireless earbuds case. I've used it with the iPhone 15 and AirPods Pro with no issues—the left charger is MagSafe-compatible and the right side is a Qi charger, and they both work with non-Apple products too. I've tested it with a Pixel phone using a MagSafe case and Google's wireless earbuds with no issues. I love that there's room to add your tchotchkes. It's my dedicated sunglasses spot.

It comes with a cable and power adapter. There's an additional 10-watt USB-C port to charge another low-power device nearby too.

Compatible with iPhones and Android phones

A Wooden Pad

Wireless chargers are usually plastic and rarely blend in with their surroundings, but Kerf’s chargers are covered with 100 percent natural and locally sourced wood. Choose from 12 wood finishes, from walnut to padauk, and each will come with a cork base to prevent slips. Starting from $50, these chargers can get expensive if you opt for rarer woods. You have the option of engraving it. You can choose whether to get a cable and power supply ($25 extra), which is a nice way to prevent electronic waste if you already have those.

best travel iphone and watch charger

A Hybrid Charger

This dual-charging system looks pretty—I like the fabric-wrapped stand—and you can charge another device on the rubberized charging pad next to it. The stand can be used in portrait or landscape, though in the latter orientation it'll block the pad. I like using the pad to top up my wireless earbuds, but I wouldn't use this iOttie on a nightstand because the LED on the front can be glaring. A cable and adapter are included, which makes it a good value.

Devices charging on the Tesla Wireless charger

Best Multi-Device Charger

This wireless charger isn't so much a Tesla product but more a FreePower one, considering it's the company's technology inside . Its first-gen tech was inside a Nomad charger we liked , but this is the second generation, and it's much better ( 7/10, WIRED Recommends ). The idea is you can place your devices (up to three) anywhere on the surface and the 30 coils inside the charger will identify exactly where to deliver power (up to 15 watts each). No precise placement necessary! I've been using it to charge my wife's and my wireless earbuds cases for months, and it's great not having to place them exactly in a certain spot.

It comes with an integrated USB-C cable, a magnetic detachable stand to keep phone screens angled toward you (if you want), and a 65-watt power adapter. It feels luxe, and I love being able to charge all my devices without having to be careful where I place them, but $300 is also a stupid amount of money to spend on a wireless charger.

Compatible with iPhones, 15-W charging for Android phones.

wireless charger

An Invisible Charger

This wireless charger ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ) is one of the few on this list that blew me away. You affix it to the underside of a table (avoid metal ones), and it'll charge your phone through it! It's truly an invisible wireless charging system and especially handy if you're limited on desk space.

The installation requires some effort, and your table must be the right thickness: too thin and you shouldn't use this charger, as it may overheat your phone; too thick and it won't be able to send enough power through. It also means you'll have a (clear) sticker on your table indicating where to place your phone, but it's a small price to pay for the amount of space you save. Just know that if you switch phones, you may need to recalibrate it and apply a new sticker.

Standard iPhone charging speed, slow 5-W charging for Android phones, normal 9-W speeds for Samsung phones.

samsung wireless charger

For Samsung Galaxy Farers

If you have the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 , Watch5 , Watch4 , Galaxy Watch3, Active2 , or Active , then this is an excellent triple wireless charger to add to your home. You place the watch on the circular dip; I used it near my front door for several months and it charged the Watch4 (and the older Watch3) with zero issues.

The Trio is attractive, has LEDs that light up quickly, and comes with a 25-watt wall charger and USB cable. My partner and I usually drop our wireless earbuds cases next to the watch. I don't need to be too precise—the six coils inside give you some flexibility as to where you place them. If you only need the watch charger and space for one other device, it comes in a Duo version , or you can pick up the standard pad . Just remember, it only supports the models specified above. Several customer reviews mention it not working with older Galaxy watches.

Compatible with iPhones, slower 5-W charging for Android phones, fast 9-W charging for Samsung phones.

Oakywood headphone stand and wireless charging station

A Charger and Headphone Stand

Want to kit out your work-from-home setup ? Conserve space and use a headphone stand that can also wirelessly charge your phone. Oakywood's 2-in-1 has a base made from your choice of solid walnut or oak, and it looks gorgeous. Place your phone on it and it'll recharge just as well as any other charger on this list. The steel stand makes for a nice place to hang up your cans when you're done for the day. If you don't care for the stand but like the look of the charger, the company sells a version with just the pad .

★ Another alternative:  The Satechi 2-in-1 Headphone Stand with Wireless Charger ($80) is a shiny, sleek, and sturdy headphone stand with a Qi wireless charging pad for your iPhone or AirPods. It has magnets in it so it's great for anyone with a MagSafe Apple product. There's also a USB-C port to charge up a second device.

A Marble Charger

Einova's Charging Stone is made with 100 percent solid marble or stone—you can choose from a variety. Every single pick in this guide looks very much like a wireless charger, but I've had visiting friends ask if this one is a drink coaster. (I'm still figuring out whether that's a good or bad thing.) It has zero LEDs, perfect for bedrooms; just try to hide the cable to truly make it blend into your home. We recommend putting a case on your phone when using it with this charger, as there's a risk of scuffing up the back with these harder surfaces.

Image may contain Lamp and Sphere

For PC Gamers

There's a tendency to add RGB LEDs to every single component that goes into building a gaming PC . You can then customize all the shiny lights into any color imaginable, or just stick with a rotation of rainbow unicorn vomit . Whatever you opt for, this wireless charger is the next natural addition to your battle station. It has a nice soft-touch finish (though it picks up dust and lint easily). But the best part is the ring of LEDs around the base. Install Razer's Chroma software and you'll be able to customize the pattern and color and sync it to any other Razer Chroma peripheral you own for all the RGB glory.

Satechi Duo wireless charger with iPhone

A Wireless Battery

When you're out and about, finding a wall outlet to plug in your charger and phone can be tricky. Use a battery pack instead! Better yet, use one that supports wireless charging. This 10,000-mAh model from Satechi has enough power to recharge a phone more than once, but it has a few extra tricks up its sleeve. You can flip up the wireless charger to use it as a stand as it juices up your phone—I've tested it with a Pixel 7, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and iPhone 14 Pro, and they all managed to recharge, though not fast. Behind the stand is a spot to recharge your wireless earbuds case (if it supports it), and you can plug a third device in via the USB-C port. There are LEDs at the back to see how much battery is left in the bank.

5-W charging for iPhones and Android phones.

★ For MagSafe iPhone owners: Anker's 622 Magnetic Portable Wireless Charger ($50) magnetically sticks to the back of MagSafe iPhones, and there's a built-in kickstand so you can prop your phone up anywhere. It has a 5,000-mAh capacity, so it should fully recharge your iPhone once at the very least. Read our Best MagSafe Power Banks guide for more.

Various Anker MagGo chargers in different colors

Best Docks for MagSafe iPhones

These Anker products are some of my favorite iPhone wireless chargers at the moment. The orb-shaped MagGo has recently been updated with Qi2 support and includes several USB-C and USB-A ports plus AC outlets on its back, doubling as a power strip and a MagSafe wireless charger for any iPhone that supports the feature. The MagGo 623 can magnetically hold your iPhone at an angle on your desk and recharge it, and the circular base behind the angled top can also simultaneously juice up wireless earbuds.

But my favorite is the MagGo 633, which is a charging stand that doubles as a portable battery. Just slide out the battery to take it with you on the go (it'll stick to your MagSafe iPhone magnetically), and slot it back in when you're home. You can charge your iPhone on it as the power bank recharges itself. Ingenious. The base also can recharge wireless earbuds too.

Made for iPhones and Apple devices.

RapidX Modula 5 Wireless Charging System

Best for Travel

This modular system from RapidX is great for couples or families, because it is compact and can wirelessly charge two phones at up to 10 watts each. The beauty is that you can add or remove pods, and a single charging cable can power up to five. The pods snap together magnetically and pull apart for easy packing. There are additional phone pods ($30) and a version with a phone pod and an Apple Watch pod ($80). You get only a 30-watt US power adapter and a 5-foot USB-C cable in the box, so you will need a more powerful adapter if you plan to add pods. (RapidX recommends 65 watts or above for three or more devices.)

Anker MagGo Qi2 Travel 3in1 charger

Best Qi2 and MagSafe for Travel

Many chargers bill themselves as ideal travel companions, but Anker’s MagGo 3-in-1 is perhaps the most compact I’ve tested when folded flat. Despite its size, this travel charger can charge up your iPhone or Qi2-certified phone at up to 15 watts, has a second pad for AirPods or other wireless earbuds, and sports a fold-out Apple Watch charger. The box includes both a USB-C cable (around 5-foot) and a wall adapter. Only MagSafe iPhones and Qi2-certified Android phones have the magnets needed to use this as a stand, but I had no trouble charging an older Android phone by angling it back (Qi2 is backward compatible).

★ An alternative: Mophie's 3-in-1 Travel Charger With MagSafe ($150) is another nice option that folds up to be super compact, and it includes a fabric case, along with the cable and charging adapter. It will fast-charge iPhones at 15 watts, and this updated model includes fast-charging support for the Apple Watch.

Belkin Boost Charge Pro Apple Watch Charger

Best for Apple Watch

It may top our Best Smartwatches guide, but the Achilles heel for the Apple Watch is battery life. This sleek charging pad comes in black or white, charges any Apple Watch, and folds flat for easy travel. While it’s not quite as compact as I would like, you can use the dial on the underside to adjust it for your Apple Watch size, and there’s cable management for the included 4-foot USB-C cable. It also supports Nightstand mode and fast charging for the latest Apple Watches. You just need a 20-watt wall charger to pair it with.

Zens Liberty Glass wireless charger

Honorable Mentions

There are a lot of wireless chargers. Here are a few more we like, but for one reason or another don't warrant a place above.

  • Casetify PowerThru 2-in-1 Charging Stand for $102 : If you want a charger for your MagSafe iPhone and AirPods (or other earbuds), this one from Casetify is a decent pick. It has a squared-off base with an indent for AirPods, a metallic rod, and a slightly adjustable MagSafe pad for your iPhone that charges at 7.5 watts. I don’t love the visible logo around the pad or the options with basketball courts and other designs for the base, and it has a bright LED.
  • Apple MagSafe Charger for $30 : Apple's MagSafe charger is quite basic. Since the charger magnetically stays attached to MagSafe iPhones, you don't have to worry about accidental misalignments causing you to wake up to a dead device. But the cable isn't very long and there's no charging adapter.
  • Nomad Stand One Max for $180 : This is a very elegant if expensive Qi2-enabled 3-in-1 wireless charger that has juiced up my iPhone 15, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro with no trouble. It doesn't include a charging adapter, which is silly, but you'll get 15-watt fast charging for the iPhone and fast charging for the Apple Watch. The watch strap tends to get in the way of the AirPods, but this is a minor gripe.
  • Mophie 3-in-1 Extendable Stand With MagSafe for $150 : This is a pretty smart 3-in-1 Apple charger that doubles as a tripod for your iPhone. You can elongate the stand to raise your iPhone from 7.5 inches to 16 inches, which is pretty convenient. The head tilts a little up and down too, so you can angle your phone screen. It supports 15-watt fast charging, and an Apple Watch charger hangs off on the side, with an AirPods charger on the base.
  • Courant Catch:2 Essentials for $90 : Wireless chargers should look nice. You shouldn't settle for anything less! This Courant dual charger oozes luxury with its Belgian linen-wrapped surface (especially in the camel color). I've used it by my front door to recharge my partner's and my wireless earbuds for two years. The rubber feet prevent it from shifting around, but even if there are five coils in this pad, you should try to be precise when you put your device down to charge and make sure the LED lights up to double-check. It comes with a color-matching USB-C cable.
  • Anker 737 MagGo MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charger for $140 : This triple wireless charger is pretty great if you are entrenched in the Apple ecosystem. It's Made for iPhone certified, so you get the max 15-watt charging speed for MagSafe iPhones. It doesn't have fast charging for the Apple Watch dock, but you can pop in a pair of wireless earbuds in the middle of the triangle to juice the case back up. It comes with a 30-watt adapter and USB-C cable.
  • Xiaomi Mi 80W Wireless Charging Stand for $100 : By far the fastest wireless charger we have tested, this stand is only worth considering for Xiaomi phones (it seems to charge most other phones at 10 watts or below). I tested with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends ), which tops out at 50 watts (some Xiaomi models can go higher). The unusual sail shape combines a white triangular section with a clear acrylic base that has a subtle groove to hold your phone in place and a gap underneath for the exhaust grill from the noisy fan. The USB-C port and LED indicator are on the back.
  • Zens Liberty Wireless Charger for $113 : I tested the Glass Edition ($150) of this wireless charging pad, and it looks stunning with the 16 overlapping copper coils on display (the standard version has a woolen fabric top). It can charge two devices simultaneously at up to 15 watts apiece, and there’s an optional Apple Watch add-on ($24) . As stylish as it is, the price is too high. Because you can see the coils, placement is never an issue, but it’s a bulky charger, the fan is audible at times, and while I had no problem charging my iPhone or AirPods, my Pixel 6 Pro got very warm on this pad.
  • OtterBox Wireless Charging Pad for $40 : OtterBox has improved its wireless charging pad to deliver up to 15 watts to eligible phones. Easily mistaken for a coaster, it has an anti-slip rubber top and bottom to stop it or your phone from sliding around. Sadly, the LED on the front lights up white when charging, which is not ideal for the nightstand.
  • OtterBox 3-in-1 Charging Station With MagSafe for $150 : This is featured in our Best Apple 3-in-1 Chargers guide, and for good reason. It's one of the most compact 3-in-1 MagSafe chargers out there. There's a spot for AirPods or wireless earbuds at the base, the Apple Watch, and a MagSafe iPhone, which will charge at the fastest 15-watt speed.

Your Charging Questions, Answered

Does my phone support wireless charging?

Not all phones support wireless charging, but most brands have models that do, so look up your phone model first. You'll usually see "Qi wireless charging" (the default standard) or simply "wireless charging" if it does. Phones that support the latest Qi2 standard , bear the Qi2 logo and have a ring of magnets for easy alignment (just like Apple's MagSafe).

Do wireless chargers work if you have a phone case?

Yes, most wireless chargers can charge through cases, unless it's a particularly thick case. Check the product listing—there's usually a case thickness limit in millimeters. Phones can get hot when charging wirelessly, so don't worry if your phone is really warm when you pick it up. Most smartphones have limits to stop accepting a charge if they get too hot.

Yes, cords will charge your phone faster

Some manufacturers like Apple and OnePlus make wireless chargers that recharge their respective phones faster than others, but if you're looking for speed, you're better off sticking with a cord. Wireless charging is best for desks or nightstands when you're not really using your phone or in a rush to recharge it.

What's a fast wireless charging speed?

We said this at the beginning of our guide, but you'll see “ Compatible with iPhones and Android phones ” under each slide, and that means the charger has a standard charging speed of 7.5 watts for iPhones or 10 watts for Android phones (including Samsung Galaxy phones). The latest MagSafe and Qi2 chargers can go up to 15 watts, and there are a handful of proprietary wireless chargers for specific phone models that can charge even faster. It's worth noting that, even where phones support them, the maximum charging rates are only reached some of the time (the charging rate is automatically adjusted to preserve battery health).

Is wireless charging safe to use?

There's no definitive evidence that it's harmful. You may worry the phone's battery might degrade faster with wireless charging, but manufacturers set safe limits for phone batteries, stipulating how much a battery can be charged and how far it can discharge. Regardless of the charging source you use, whether you plug into a wall adapter or use a wireless charging pad, these limits can’t be overridden. There’s no risk of overcharging your phone by leaving it on a wireless charger all night.

How do I keep my phone's battery healthy?

However, try to keep your battery between 50 and 80 percent for optimum battery health . Keeping your phone fully charged or fully discharging the battery will degrade it slightly faster, and regularly swinging between full and empty will shorten its life. Battery technology has improved in recent years, and phone batteries are more reliable than ever. If you switch phones every two to three years or don’t mind paying a modest fee for a battery replacement on that timescale, it’s not worth worrying too much about how often or when you charge your phone.

The 5 best portable Apple Watch chargers

We only recommend products we love and that we think you will, too. We may receive a portion of sales from products purchased from this article, which was written by our Commerce team.

Anker Portable Magnetic Charger and the iWALK Portable Apple Watch Charger

When you’re away from home and find your Apple Watch battery running low, having a portable charger can offer a quick power boost for it and other devices, too. While they feature a variety of capabilities, the best portable Apple Watch chargers will all have a compact design, device protection, and enough juice to power your watch multiple times. Some portable chargers can even charge your phone or tablet.

What to consider when choosing a portable charger

There are two main types of portable chargers: those that have a built-in power bank and those that plug into a laptop, car, or power outlet to provide a charge. Chargers with a built-in power bank may offer more versatility in terms of where you can use them, but they require periodic recharging and are typically a little larger in size. Also, keep battery capacity in mind when shopping. It takes approximately 300 milliamp hours (mAh) to fully charge an Apple Watch, so a 1,000 mAh power bank would charge your watch about three times before needing to be recharged. On the other hand, plug-in portable chargers are more compact than those with a power bank, but one potential downside is that you’ll need a separate power source to charge your watch.

Additionally, some portable chargers are MFi-certified and meet strict Apple standards for quality, compatibility, and safety. While there are many chargers with positive reviews that aren’t MFi-certified, choosing a charger with this certification means there will be less chance of damage to your Apple Watch via overheating, over-charging, and short circuits. Also, consider whether you’d like your charger to power more than just your watch. Some portable chargers can provide multi-product charging capabilities for your iPhone (requiring approximately 3,000 mAH for a full charge) and iPad (almost 9,000 mAh ), but they may cost a bit more.

Lastly, consider the overall design that’s most convenient for you — some options can be hung from your keychain, unfolded to display the watch on your nightstand, or include LED lights to indicate how much battery they have left.

With these considerations in mind, check out the best portable Apple Watch chargers available on Amazon.

1. This pocket-friendly power bank charger

This portable Apple Watch charger has a keychain and buil-in battery pack.

  • Can charge all Apple Watches, including the Series 7 and special edition watches
  • Contains a power bank
  • MFi-certified

This tiny Apple Watch charger and power bank can give your watch a full charge up to three times and fit easily in your pocket or secure to your bag via the attached clip. It features a magnetic charging module in the center and four LED lights that indicate how much battery is left in the bank. Plus, it is MFi-certified and compatible with all Apple Watches, including Series 1 through 7, as well as several special edition models. It comes with a USB-C cord for charging and can fully charge your Apple Watch in just two hours.

One reviewer wrote: “I love this charger. I carry it with me daily. I am able to charge my watch while I shower at the gym, drive, and at my desk. It's great to be able to charge while I wouldn't be active anyway, so I don't lose "move" calories. Super convenient that it doesn't need to be plugged in while it charges. I would totally recommend!”

2. This handy charger that plugs into your laptop

This portable Apple Watch charger plugs into a USB port.

  • Makes it easy to charge your watch while you’re working
  • Doesn’t include a power bank

This MFi-certified Apple Watch charger plugs directly into your laptop or any other USB-A port to provide instant charging for as long as you need. A strong magnet helps to keep your watch in place, and the listing indicates it’s compatible with Apple Watch Series 1 through 6. However, several reviewers wrote that it would also charge the Series 7 but won’t offer the fast charge feature. This portable charger has a sleek aluminum finish, comes with an 18-month warranty, and measures just 2 inches long.

One reviewer wrote: “Needed a portable adapter for my new Apple Watch SE and came across this little guy. Anker has been my go-to for most electronic accessories and once again, they hit the spot! I popped it in a power bank w/ PD charging (also by Anker. Big surprise!), threw my watch on it, and charged perfectly! [...] If you’re on the fence, I’d say go for it! Especially if you’re looking for a reliable MFi certified device.”

3. A power bank that can charge your watch and iPhone at the same time

This portable apple watch charger can also power your iPhone and iPad.

  • Has a higher-capacity power bank
  • Can charge two devices at once
  • Not MFi-certified
  • Doesn’t support Apple Watch Series 7 or Series 1 charging

For a portable charger that can also charge your phone, check out this one that can charge an Apple Watch approximately 20 times or an iPhone between one and two times before needing to be recharged. It features a built-in Lightning cable and a magnetic charger module that enables you to charge the power bank and another Apple device at the same time you’re charging your watch. This charger is compatible with Apple Watches Series 2 through 6 (as well as the SE/Nike+ edition) and various iPhone and iPad generations (scroll down on the Amazon listing to see if your device is compatible). While it’s not MFi-certified, this charger does provide over-temperature, over-current, over-voltage, and short-circuit protection. The required USB-C charging cable is included, and there are four colors to choose from, including mint green and white.

One reviewer wrote: “Ive gone through so many portable chargers and this one is by far the best one I’ve purchased! It works fantastic and it is so easy to just take it with you everywhere you go! The colors they have are great too! What I really love about this charger is that it charges both your iPhone and iWatch and they charge fast! [...] This product is definitely a game changer!”

4. A portable charger with nightstand mode

This portable Apple watch charger features nightstand mode.

  • Stand for easy viewing while laying down
  • Comes with a zippered travel pouch
  • May not support Apple Watch Series 7 charging

This convenient portable charger features a magnetic charger plate and a folding design that can be used flat or in an elevated nightstand mode for viewing while laying down. It’s MFi-certified, has a nonslip rubber base, and uses a hardwired, 3-foot USB-A cord that you’ll need to plug in to charge your watch. While this charger doesn’t list the Series 7 as a compatible device, it does charge Series 1 through 6 (including SE) and comes with a convenient zippered travel pouch and a one-year warranty.

One reviewer wrote: “After forgetting my charger on a couple of camping trips, I purchased this so I wouldn't have to unplug (and sometimes forget) my home charger, when I go on trips. It's nice and compact and I love that the arm is adjustable to put the watch in nightstand mode. Charges at least as fast as the original one that came with my watch. When camping, I plug it into an external battery while I'm sleeping and am good to go for another day. I know I could go without it while camping but I like having the activity monitor and am just used to seeing my watch on my wrist. I can also keep this in the car for a recharge while driving, just plugs into the car charger.”

5. This portable power bank that can clip onto your keychain

This portable apple watch charger clips onto a bag or keychain.

  • Has a convenient hanging strap
  • LED battery life indicator

With a strap for hanging from your keychain or bag, this MFi-certified portable charger provides over-current, over-voltage, short-circuit, and over-temperature protection for peace of mind. It can fully charge your Apple Watch about two or three times, recharges in about three hours, and has an LED light that changes color to indicate how much battery power is left. It’s compatible with all 38 to 44-millimeter watches (Series 1 through 5) as well as the Nike+ and Hermes editions. According to a reviewer, it’s also compatible with Series 6, but Series 7 is not mentioned. It also comes with a USB charging cable.

One reviewer wrote: “I don't know what I would do without this little charger. I have the Apple Watch charging cord by my bed, but I almost never use it because I wear the watch when I sleep. With this charger, I charge my watch in my car on my commute to work, at my desk when I'm sitting, and if I'm out and about. I charge the charger at night while I'm sleeping and then have it with me all day. I don't have to find a place to plug in a cord, and it will charge my watch more than once per day if I have had a big battery drain. I love it!”

The best iPhone chargers 2024: top-tier cables, mats and blocks for your iPhone

These are the best iPhone chargers, blocks and cables in 2024

  • Our iPhone charger advice

The best iPhone chargers are neccessary investment if you're often caught with little to no battery life. These helpful bits of kit will juice up your pocket companion in no time at all, and in this guide, we've sifted through the best available options in 2024.

In the olden days, every iPhone came with a 5W charger, but in 2024, even the very best iPhones – from the iPhone 15 Pro Max to the iPhone SE (2022) – ship without one. What's more, if you do still have an old 5W charger, these power packs don't support fast charging – and that's where time-saving 20W chargers come in. iPhones also use different charging standards to many Android phones, so strong PD (Power Delivery) measurements are worth looking out for.

We've divided this roundup into sections to help you further. First, there's chargers and charging blocks, then charging cables, with wireless charging pads and car chargers rounding out our selection. For other charging needs, our guides to the best wireless chargers and best power banks may help, too.

Do bear in mind that every phone in  Apple 's new  iPhone 15  series – that's the standard iPhone,  iPhone 15 Plus ,  iPhone 15 Pro  and  iPhone 15 Pro Max  – has USB-C connectivity (rather than Lightning), so we've split the aforementioned charging cables section into two parts accordingly.

The best iPhone chargers and charging blocks

Apple 20w USB-C power adapter, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

1. Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter

Specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

The charger that Apple recommends for your iPhone 12 or above is also the one you'll wish came bundled with your not-exactly-cheap purchase.

At 20W, it's a fast charger, so it's a worthwhile investment compared to simply using the charging cable, but you'll likely begrudge the fact you need to pay the extra, especially since, in the scheme of smartphone charging, 20W isn’t all that fast (though it’s about as much as an iPhone can support).

Still, if you're going to buy one, at least you know you'll get a quality product. It has that clean minimalist design that works so well for Apple devices, and it's incredibly simple to use, making it easily one of the best iPhone chargers. Obviously, don't expect it to come with a spare charging cable (that would be far too much like good value!).

Apple 18W USB-C Power Adapter, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

2. Apple 18W USB-C Power Adapter

Apple recommends this charger for the iPad Pro and iPhone 8 or later, all of which support fast charging. It's frustrating Apple doesn't provide this fast charger with the any of its phones anymore.

But if you’re a heavy iPhone user, it’s a worthwhile investment. The difference between the 18W charger and the ancient 5W one is dramatic: with the former you can get about 50% charge from flat in half an hour, but the latter takes much longer. It's worth noting you won't get a cable with this charger though. Sigh.

This also obviously isn’t quite as powerful as Apple’s 20W charger, but the difference is negligible, and if your device can’t make the most of 20W then this is a safe bet – if an inevitably overpriced one, coming from Apple as it does.

Anker PowerPort Speed Plus Duo, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

3. Anker PowerPort Speed Plus Duo

If you can’t bear giving more money to Apple for the charger that should have come with your phone in the first place, be careful what you buy instead: some chargers advertised as fast chargers are only fast for Android devices, not Apple ones. This one, though, is a 42W fast charger that works with all iPhones and fast charges iPhone 8s onwards.

It’s half the price of the Apple one and has one high-speed USB-C for fast charging and a second USB-A for other devices. Cables aren’t included. We’ve used many Anker chargers over the years now, and we’ve found them to be consistently reliable.

Given the high power here it’s a great bet for if you have other devices that support fast charging (including those that support higher power charging that any iPhone). It’s potentially more future-proofed for Apple devices too, since in future we might see faster charging iPhones that can take full advantage of a 42W charger.

Anker PowerPort Atom III, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

4. Anker PowerPort Atom III

If you want to charge your laptop as well as your iPhone, this is one of the best iPhone chargers for you. It comes in two models, a single-port one and one with a second USB-A port.

The PowerPort Atom III has 60W of power and can charge pretty much anything that you can connect to its USB-C port. At 60W, it still can’t charge some devices (such as certain Android phones) at top speeds, so consider that if you plan to use this with devices other than your iPhone, but it’s certainly one of the fastest chargers that also powers up Apple gadgets quickly.

On the flipside, if all you want to do is charge your iPhone, then this thing is overkill, and you can potentially get a cheaper charger that will do the job just as well. So, consider what you need before buying.

TeckNet 30W PD USB Charger, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

5. TeckNet 30W PD USB Charger

Most of us live in households where there’s more than one kind of device to charge. That's why this charger from TeckNet is a good solution: it has an 18W USB-C port with Power Delivery for fast charging your iPhone, and it also has two USB-A ports that you can use to charge other devices at the same time.

It’s a fairly bulky charger – don’t expect to be able to hide it behind something in the kitchen – but it’s solid, safe and delivers enough power to recharge even the biggest iPhone at a high speed. Three ports mean it’s a good travel option too.

If you only tend to charge one device at a time then we’d recommend something smaller with fewer ports (and potentially a lower price or higher power), but if you use multiple battery-powered gadgets then this is a great call.

TOMMOX PowerCenter 4 75W PD USB Charger, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

6. TOMMOX PowerCenter 4 75W PD USB Charger

The TOMMOX PowerCenter 4 charger isn't stylish, it’s not incredibly light and it’s not very small. But it is undeniably useful – so much so that, for our money, it ranks among the best iPhone chargers.

It can throw up to 60W of power through its USB-C connector, which is enough to speedily charge a laptop, and its triple USB-A connectors enable you to connect and charge three other devices at the same time. That’s more ports than most chargers give you.

Like its rival chargers, it’s dual voltage, so you can take it with you on holiday to charge your iPhone, your Kindle , your camera, your Apple Watch and anything else that needs topping up. It’s not as elegant as a multi-device wireless charger, but it’s an awful lot cheaper, and it’s one of the most powerful options on this list, so it’s ideal for juicing up devices that support its full wattage.

The best USB-C iPhone charging cables

Anker Powerline III USB C to USB C Charger

1. Anker Powerline III USB-C to USB-C Cable

Anker's Powerline III USB-C to USB-C cable is  Amazon 's best-selling USB-C charging cable, and for good reason. It'll charge your iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max at its maximum charging speed (when paired with one of the above charging blocks), and you won't have to fork out a princely sum for the privilege (at the time of writing, the Powerline III retails for $12.99 / £9.99 / AU$19.99).

This 1.8-meter cable isn't braided, which perhaps explains why its price is so agreeable, but Anker has nonetheless adorned the Powerline III with "quadruple bulletproof fiber cores", which allow it to withstand up to 25,000 bends. In other words, this super slim cable will outlast your current iPhone 15 – and likely the iPhone 16 , should you choose to buy one – and you can use it to charge your USB-C-compatible MacBook or iPad to its maximum charging capacity, too.

What's more, thanks to the reverse charging capabilities of the iPhone 15, you’re now able to reverse charge your AirPods using a cable such as this one (check out our guide on how to charge AirPods using an iPhone 15 for the details). That benefit applies to all the USB-C chargers listed in this guide, mind.

Amazon Basics USB-C to USB-C 2.0 Fast Charger Cable

2. Amazon Basics USB-C to USB-C 2.0 Fast Charger Cable

If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful iPhone 15 charger, Amazon's entry-level USB-C to USB-C 2.0 Fast Charger is a worthy pick. With its USB-IF certification and 480Mbps speed, it'll reliably charge any USB-C-compatible Apple product, and its 1.8-meter length provides a reasonable level of flexibility (unless your living in a house with huge rooms).

This Amazon Basics cable only supports USB 2.0 data, so you won't be able to use it to connect to SuperSpeed USB 3.1 devices such as external HDD or SSDs, but for an affordable, no-frills charging experience, you can't really go wrong here.

Apple USB-C cable

3. Apple USB-C to USB-C Cable

Put simply, with Apple's USC-C to USB-C cable, you're paying for the brand name and some impressive length. For everything else – price, durability, etc. – you'll be better off going for Anker's aforementioned Powerline III USB-C cable, but we know that some people prefer the comfort of pairing their iPhone with an Apple-branded cable, hence why we've included this model here.

A shorter, 1-meter Apple USC-C cable is currently available at Amazon and via Apple itself, but we think, if you're already committed to spending big, you may as well fork out the $34.99 / £29 / $49 price for this 2-meter version, which is more versatile (by virtue of its superior length). If you really want to push the boat out, Apple also has a beautiful-looking braided version of this cable available at Amazon, though the price of that particular model fluctuates more than the price of Bitcoin.

The best Lightning iPhone charging cables

Anker Powerline Plus II USB-C to Lightning Cable, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

1. Anker Powerline Plus II USB-C to Lightning Cable

The Powerline Plus II cable is exceptionally tough and exceptionally quick, and it may be the last Lightning cable you ever buy. That’s because it’s designed for USB-C connections, which deliver much faster charging than USB-A ones – assuming your charger delivers the right amount of juice, of course.

It works with high-powered chargers, including Apple’s ones, and is lab-tested to withstand 30,000 bends, which means it should last thirty times longer than lesser cables. Anker is so confident that it offers a lifetime warranty: this cable should last much longer than any of your iPhones or iPads.

The Anker Powerline Plus II USB-C to Lightning Cable is not cheap, but given its durability it could end up being better value than other cables, which might need replacing a lot more frequently. So, for savvy buyers this is a strong choice.

Anker Powerline USB-C to Lightning Cable, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

2. Anker Powerline USB-C to Lightning Cable

If you’re not fussed about getting a braided cable and want a 1.8 meter one, the original Powerline cables are very good value: you’ll be hard-pressed to find a similar quality USB-C cable of the same length for the same price.

The question here is whether you want the increased strength of the braided Powerline Plus II, which is only a little bit more expensive. Where that one has been lab-tested to survive 30,000 bends, the original Powerline has only been tested to 12,000 bends – although like its sibling it does come with a lifetime warranty.

In short, then, if you plan to use this cable a lot – and don’t want to have to replace it for a long, long time – it’s probably worth spending the extra on the Powerline Plus II, but as a relatively basic, affordable option, this is a strong choice.

AmazonBasics DoubleBraided Nylon USB-A to Lightning Cable, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

3. Amazon Basics DoubleBraided Nylon USB-A to Lightning Cable

This 3-meter cable may be the most useful iPhone charging cable ever made. It’s available in much smaller sizes, but there’s a reason we love the long one. It’s long enough to stretch from a wall socket to the sofa or from your in-car charger to the kids’ iPad in the back seat.

We can’t overstate how useful that actually is, since it means there’s almost no situation where you won’t be able to still use your device while it’s charging. Length isn’t the only good thing here. Nylon braiding means it doesn’t tangle easily, and the sleeves at the joint between the cable and the connector prevent the bending that can lead to dangerous fraying.

The colors range from utilitarian grey to hard-to-lose red and rose gold. Our only niggle is that the Lightning end feels a little looser than Apple’s own cable, especially in our iPad.

Apple USB-C to Lightning cable, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

4. Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable

Simple in almost every way, the Apple USB-C to Lightning cable is an ideal option if you prefer sticking with the Apple name. It's not as durable as some other options here, with the cable prone to fraying after a lot of use unless you're very careful, but you have the guarantee of compatibility thanks to this being made exclusively for Apple devices.

The cable works with iPhones, iPads and iPods that have Lightning connectors so it's fairly flexible here. You can also use it with numerous types of USB-C power adapters to gain fast-charging functionality. It's far from an exciting cable with only one color option and little else going on, but it's highly dependable. Of course, coming from Apple you’ll also be paying above the odds for what you get, but in exchange you get the reassurance of a trusted brand.

Belkin Triple Pack of 6-inch Charge and Sync Cables, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

5. Belkin Triple Pack of 6-inch Charge and Sync Cables

Here’s a handy one for people with gadgets of various vintages: a triple pack of 6-inch charging cables that covers pre-Lightning iPhones, iPads and iPods, plus modern Lightning devices and non-Apple micro USB devices such as Kindles, console controllers and cameras.

We’d argue that the main benefit of buying a triple-pack of good-quality cables from the likes of Belkin instead of a single cable with swappable connectors is that swapping connectors causes wear and tear for the three days you get before losing all of them.

So, this pack can help you charge almost anything, and you’re unlikely to wear them out quickly. If you only have one device, or all your chargeable gadgets use the same connector, then these three cables may not be necessary, but if your house is as full of gadgets as ours then these cables will come in real handy.

Belkin Boost Charge USB-C cable, one of the best charging cables, against a white background

6. Belkin Boost Charge USB-C cable

Sometimes, little things make a big difference. At 1.2 meters (4ft) compared to the more common 0.9 meter (3ft), Belkin’s Boost is a little bit longer than the average iPhone charging cable.

That extra foot means it’s a lot more useful: it’s likely to be long enough to reach from the floor socket to the sofa without you having to sit in an awkward position; it’s long enough to reach the bedside table without having to rearrange the furniture; it’s long enough for the passenger in your car, and so on.

It’s a typically high-quality Belkin product, although personally we prefer braided cables to smooth ones as they're less likely to get tangled and damaged. There are of course even longer cables than this available, but they can be overkill, where this strikes a nice balance.

The best iPhone wireless charging pads and car chargers

Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

1. Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad

With Apple’s AirPower wireless charging pad DOA, where do you go when you want to charge not just your iPhone but your AirPods and your Apple Watch too? Mophie has the answer, and while it’s hardly cheap, it’s compact, stylish, easy to clean and particularly handy for commuters and travelers.

The Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad will chuck 7.5W of power at your iPhone and works through cases up to 3mm thick. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch connector is housed at an angle that’s ideal for Bedside Mode, and the AirPods charging point doesn’t obscure your view of your Apple Watch’s face.

Unlike standard wireless charging pads you won’t need to buy or provide a separate wall charger, either. So, it’s a very well thought through and complete wireless charging option. If there’s a downside it’s that this isn’t cheap, but it’s certainly still good value for money, and one of the best iPhone chargers overall.

Apple MagSafe Duo Charger, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

2. MagSafe Duo

If you want a highly stylish wireless charger that also happens to charge both your iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time, the MagSafe Duo looks gorgeous. It's not as fast as some other wireless chargers because it only offers up to 11W when hooked up to a 27W wall adapter (which isn’t included here), however that won't be an issue if your focus is overnight charging.

Where the MagSafe Duo does stand out is in its ability to be folded in half and easily deposited in your pocket for safe keeping. You won't have trouble finding room for this device when it's not in use, and it's ideal for regular travel.

Just bear in mind that you're paying the Apple premium for good looks and a practical design. Still, as this works well both as a travel charger and a primary one, you won’t have to buy two if you get this.

Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charging Pad, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

3. Anker PowerWave Fast Wireless Charging Pad

As with wired fast chargers, wireless chargers don’t work in the same way for iPhones as they do for Android devices. For example, a typical 10W wireless charger will deliver that power to Android but drop to 7.5W or even 5W for an iPhone. That’s because Apple doesn’t currently support 10W wireless charging: it initially supported 5W and upped that to 7.5W, but iOS still currently limits some Qi chargers to 5W.

This Anker wireless charger delivers the current iPhone maximum of 7.5W to recent iPhones, but it’s important to note that it can only do that if it’s connected to a wall charger that’s compatible with Quick Charge 3.0. If not, it isn’t drawing enough power. Note that if you have a MagSafe charger and iPhone you can exceed 7.5W – in that case you can get up to 15W, just not with Qi charging.

Belkin PowerHouse Charge Dock, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

4. Belkin PowerHouse Charge Dock

Belkin’s PowerHouse is a simple, effective and reasonably-priced dual charger for iPhone and Apple Watch, and it works with any iPhone that has a Lightning connector. Unlike the Mophie wireless pad there’s no AirPods charger and the iPhone connection is wired, not wireless – but the connector is movable so you shouldn’t have to take your phone out of its case.

The integrated, magnetic Apple Watch charger doesn’t need your charging cable – so you can use your Watch cable somewhere else, for example when you’re traveling or at work. It’s a good quality charger but beware if you have an official Apple leather case: some reviewers say the heat from the charger transfers color from the case to the charger. For everyone else though, the Belkin PowerHouse Charge Dock looks to be a very strong choice of wireless charger, and one of the best iPhone chargers around.

Anker Power Drive PD 2-port Type C Car Charger, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

5. Anker Power Drive PD 2-port Type C Car Charger

Many car chargers deliver tiny amounts of power, and that’s a problem if you want to charge something hungry such as an iPad, or if you need to recharge a flat iPhone in a hurry. Anker’s Power Drive PD solves that problem: it’s a 30W charger with a fast USB-C port as well as a USB-A port for older devices and devices that don’t support fast charging.

That means you can charge your iPad while topping up your iPhone, or just recharge something big like your laptop. It’s small, too, so it won’t dominate the dashboard like some other multi-socket chargers do.

This is specifically a car charger, so don’t buy it as an all-purpose solution, but if you need an in-car option then this is one of the best. Just note that you need to unplug it when the engine is turned off, which can be a minor bit of extra hassle.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack, one of the best iPhone chargers, against a white background

6. Apple MagSafe Battery Pack

Utilizing the iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15 line's method of using magnets to perfectly align everything, the MagSafe Battery Pack looks great. Simply attach it to the back of your iPhone and you're good to go. It’s slick, simple, and very Apple. The magnets mean it's firmly attached with the battery pack capable of charging via a 27W or higher charger such as those with a MacBook, or there's the option to use a Lightning cable for up to 15W of wireless charging.

It's expensive for what it is but as is always the way with Apple products, you'll grudgingly realize why. Just don't count on it coming with a power adapter or cable because, of course, it doesn't, so that’s potentially yet another expense you’ll have to factor in if you somehow don’t already have one. Still, cost aside this is one of the best iPhone chargers.

What type of iPhone charger is for you?

How to choose the best iphone charger for you.

Don’t just look at the price. Look at what you want to do now, and what you might want to do next year. For example, an 18W charger will fast charge your iPhone, but it’s not powerful enough to run a MacBook Pro . A more powerful one may be a better option for your future tech arsenal.

It’s also wise to go for USB-C even if you don’t need it right now. That’s the standard for the rest of the mobile market (iPhone 15 included), so USB-C is future-proofed and backwards compatible. Just remember that we mean USB-C plugging into the charger, and Lightning on the other end of the cable to plug into the iPhone (unless you've got an iPhone 15, of course, which uses USB-C on both ends).

The options above are our favorite iPhone charging blocks, iPhone charging cables and wireless iPhone charging pads, so they're a good place to start. We’ve chosen them based on three key criteria: quality, usefulness and value for money. Whether you’re a road warrior or a box set binger, these chargers, cables and pads are the best ways to keep your iPhone powered up.

What's the difference between wireless and wired charging?

Wireless isn’t always as fast, but it’s more convenient. Most wireless iPhone chargers deliver 5W or 7.5W and work through most iPhone cases.

Most standalone charging pads expect you to provide the actual charger brick, and can’t deliver more power than you put into them – so, even if an iPhone wireless charging pad can deliver 7.5W, it can’t do that if you’re plugging it into a charger that only gives it 5W.

What to look for in an iPhone charger

If you're looking for a charging block, power and ports matter. For fast charging (iPhone 8 onwards), you’ll need 18W or more and USB-C, not the older, more common USB-A.

Meanwhile, when choosing a charging cable, durability is key. Nylon braiding reduces tangling; look for reinforcements where the cable meets the connector, as that’s where cables tend to fray.

Finally, if you want a wireless charger, it's worth bearing in mind that many wireless chargers deliver 5W. That's fine for overnight charging, but if you want something faster, a 7.5W option charges faster.

If you have an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, you need this charger

A re you constantly juggling chargers for your multiple Apple devices? The  Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station  offers a compact, reliable solution to power up your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously. Its sleek design and fast charging capabilities make it easy to keep all your devices powered, both on your desk and on the go.

What is notable about the MagGo 3-in-1 is both its ability to charge three devices at once and the speed at which it does so. Thanks to its Qi2 technology, your iPhone can reach 20% battery in just 15 minutes, while your Apple Watch gets a 47% boost in half an hour. This means less time tethered to the charger and more time enjoying your devices.

The design of the MagGo 3-in-1 caught my attention for its minimal visual impact and travel-friendly size. It's as small as a deck of cards when folded and weighs only 6.9 ounces, making it an ideal companion for your adventures. Its understated design ensures that your devices look neat and organized while charging.

One of my favorite features is the adjustable MagSafe charging pad, which allows you to use your iPhone hands-free while it charges. I can see using it for FaceTime calls and productivity apps vertically. Or, rotate your phone to a horizontal position, and it transforms into a smart display and alarm clock using iOS 17's StandBy Mode.

The package includes a carry case, a 40W charging brick, and a 5-foot USB-C cable. This setup is particularly beneficial for iPhone 15 owners, offering an option for faster, wired charging and reducing the number of chargers you need to pack. You could even use it to charge your MacBook Air.

Available in white and black for $109.99, the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station is a complete charging solution that will complement your mobile lifestyle.

The best power banks to turn to when your iphone's running out of juice..

a photo of the satechi duo

This guide was updated on April 19, 2024, to add the Belkin BoostCharge 10K and Belkin Magnetic Wireless 5K.

Related Content

We tested several power banks specifically designed for iPhones, AirPods, and Apple Watch, and these are our top picks. Our recommendations are based on their portable form factor and others for their power. But these are great under $100 solutions for replenishing your Apple tech.

Satechi Quatro 10K Wireless Power Bank

a photo of the Satechi Quatro Wireless Power Bank

This power bank can wirelessly charge an Apple Watch, another Qi-compatible device, and two devices connected to USB ports simultaneously. It is a more convenient alternative to carrying a rat’s nest of charging cables and wall warts if you travel, as you can top off multiple devices without finding a power outlet. It isn’t an economical choice at $100, though, as you can get similar 10,000 mAh power banks much cheaper than the Quatro.

Satechi Duo 10K Wireless Charger Power Stand

a photo of the satechi duo

I found the Satechi Duo Wireless Charger brimming with functionality. It offers a nice stand for docking your phone vertically as it charges. This unique build comes in handy for hands-free video calling or taking meetings. The stand is also fully adjustable, so you can decide what angle to use it at. While it supports your phone on its stand, it offers space for your AirPods and Apple Watch on its base at the same time.

Belkin BoostCharge ProFast Power Bank 10K

a photo of the boostcharge 10k

At $100, the Belkin BoostCharge 10K is a power bank I’d pick for a weekend getaway. It offers a nice middle ground between the $60 Belkin BoostCharge 5K and the hardcore 20K. It’s powerful enough to provide up to 20W of power and 10,000m mAh of charge but not hefty enough to discourage me from plopping it into my backpack.

The BoostCharge 10K alone is enough for your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro 2. Although it can charge anything and everything regardless of brand, it is made with Apple in mind. So, if you’re fully trapped within the Apple ecosystem, adding this $100 charger to your setup is a good idea.

Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless Power Bank 5K + Stand

Image for article titled Best iPhone Portable Chargers in 2024

This is the sleekest power bank in this entire list. It’s smaller than the size of a wallet and incredibly light. If I’m magnetically attaching a portable charger to the back of my already hefty iPhone, I wouldn’t want anything heavier than the BoostCharge 5K. I had this slapped onto the back of my 12 Pro Max for hours, and it didn’t feel like a burden at all. It’s also quite slim, and even when it was attached to my phone, both the devices fit into my jeans pocket just fine.

One of my favorite features on the BoostCharge 5K is the fold-out stand on its back. It’s thankfully pretty sturdy and could support all three phones I used it with reliably. I liked that it served as a kickstand for my phone and offered me a nice, hands-free experience as my phone charged.

Owing to its small and inconspicuous size, the BoostCharge 5K provides 5000 mAh and up to 7.5W of power. It’s not as hardcore as some of Belkin’s other offerings, but it doesn’t claim to be all that either. It’s meant to be a pocket-sized charger that can quickly replenish your iPhone around four to five times before it dies on you.

If you spend more than a grand on the latest iPhone, the $40 PowerCore Magnetic 5K is a no-brainer accessory. Even if Apple releases a thinner MagSafe charging solution that offers faster charging times and a more svelte design, it will undoubtedly be considerably more expensive than what Anker already has. 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro now $249 off, iPhone 14 at $475, Qi2 gear, more

Avatar for Rikka Altland

Wednesday has some fresh Apple deals to share, including one of the best prices ever on the latest 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro . Complete with 18GB of memory, you can save $249 alongside a chance to drop iPhone 14 down to $475 . Plus, Belkin’s just-released 15W Qi2 MagSafe 2-in-1 charger falls to $50 . Hit the jump for all that and more in the latest  9to5Toys Lunch Break.

Save $249 on Apple’s 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro

Amazon is now offering  Apple’s latest 16-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro for  $2,250 . You’ll need to  clip the on-page coupon  on the 18-core 512GB model to lock-in the savings. Today’s offer amounts to $249 in savings from the usual $2,499 price tag and is the best price we’ve seen since back in February. It beats our previous mention by $50 and is the second-best price to date. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to save on  a MacBook  with more than 8GB of RAM, Amazon has your back today with Apple’s latest release and its 18GB of onboard memory. There’s plenty more to like about the new MacBook Pro, and we break that down below the fold.

Apple is back with its  latest MacBook Pros , refreshing the same physical form-factors with improved performance. You’re still looking at a 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion 120Hz refresh rates and P3 wide color gamut support, but this time there’s extra brightness that climbs up to 1,600 nits. Otherwise, there’s still Thunderbolt ports, an 8K HDMI output, and SD card slot – but did we mention all of that comes packed into a slick new Space Black colorway that you can check out in our  hands-on look .

Then there’s the  new M3 Pro chip , which marks the company’s first 3nm chip so far. It has an 11-core CPU, and comes backed by a 14-core GPU with its companion 16-core Neural Engine, all of which combines to offer Apple’s best performance yet from a mobile chip. This model backs that with 18GB of RAM as well as 512GB of onboard storage.

iPhone 14 starts from $475 in several colors

Woot is now discounting a  collection of Grade A refurbished iPhones . You’ll find a handful of previous-generation handsets, all of which ship free for Prime members. A $6 delivery fee will apply for anyone who isn’t signed up for an Amazon membership. The best deal from the sale  has iPhone 14 starting at  $475 . That drops the unlocked 128GB model from its original $799 price tag down to the lowest we’ve seen. It was previously at $542, and now you can save an extra $67. There are four different colors available, too.

iPhone 14 is still  one of the latest releases  from Apple, and now it’s an even better value following the launch last fall on the new iPhone 15 series. It comes centered around a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display and complete with an A15 Bionic chip. It powers the whole iOS experience you’re familiar with alongside new features like Emergency SOS via satellite connectivity and crash detection. There are three storage capacities available, all of which come in one of four different colorways. There’s a dual camera system around the back, with the usual Face ID module up above the screen, too.

Belkin’s just-released 15W Qi2 MagSafe 2-in-1 charger falls to $50

Amazon is currently offering the  Belkin Qi2 BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger for  $50 . This is a new all-time low as only the third discount from its usual $80 price tag. Today, you can save $30 for the first time and beat our previous mention by an extra $14. It was last on sale over a month ago, too. We detail everything that’s new with the latest chargers from Belkin in  our original CES launch coverage . It takes a closer look into all of the specifics, as well as some of the other Qi2 models that launched in the lineup.

Belkin’s  newest 2-in-1 charger  adopts Qi2 tech in order to charge your iPhone 15 at the max 15W speeds. It has a flat design that’s perfect for the nightstand or family room end table, with a secondary charging pad off to the side for leaving AirPods and any other Qi-enabled earbuds. This pad can only dish out 5W of power compared to its more capable MagSafe-compatible counterpart. Belkin wraps up the charger with an included USB-C cable and wall adapter – giving you everything you need right out of the box.

Save $265 on a stainless steel Apple Watch Series 9

Amazon is now offering the best price ever on a premium  cellular Apple Watch Series 9 with stainless steel build . Pricing on these higher-end wearables now  starts at  $433  for the  41mm GPS + Cellular configuration . It drops from the usual $699 price tag and is the best offer we’ve seen at $265 off. This is an extra $9 below our previous mention, too. Go check out  our coverage   on what’s new this time around

Now centered around the new S9 chip,  Apple Watch Series 9  arrives with much of the same build as previous models – just with some enhancements. It’ll still provide the same fitness tracking experience as before, but now packs a 3,000-nit screen that can turn all the way down to 1-nit. There’s newfound pinch detection for one-handed interactions with your wearable that just rolled out earlier in the week, as well as a build that is the first carbon neutral release from Apple.

Anker’s new 15W MagGo Qi2 10,000mAh Power Bank sees first discount

Anker’s official Amazon storefront now offers the first cash discount on the  all-new MagGo Qi2 10,000mAh Power Bank . Available just in white, today’s offer  drops to  $67.49 shipped . This is 25% off the usual $90 going rate, and on top of just being the first discount we’ve seen, it is a rare discount on Anker’s latest. I put this power bank through its paces in my recent  Tested with 9to5Toys  review .

The new  Anker MagGo Qi2 10,000mAh Power Bank  is one of my favorite portable batteries on the market. The real headlining feature is its 15W magnetic wireless charging speeds for iPhone 15, which is enabled by the new Qi2 tech. That alone is going to make today’s 25% discount even more compelling, but then Anker adds in a 10,000mAh battery, fold-out kickstand, and built-in display.
