Best Journey Tribute Bands

For many people, Journey is more than just a rock band.

In fact, Journey might be considered the ultimate rock band of its time with classic, unforgettable hit songs like Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’, Open Arms, Wheel in the Sky, and the universally acclaimed and staggeringly popular power ballad Don’t Stop Believin’.

What started out as a group for backing other artists in the early 1970s became a rock n’ roll sensation that, to this day, still gets their audience’s pulses racing with every high-power performance. The band continues to be be popular and tour to this day, and now features a revamped lineup, with Arnel Pineda responsible for the epic lead vocals of original vocalist, Steve Perry.

Suffice it to say, after millions of records sold, thousands of concerts held, and more than a dozen singles in the Top 40 Billboard Charts in the United States, Journey remains strong in every rock enthusiast’s heart. Of course, that means Journey is ripe for a tribute!

There are lots of Journey tribute bands across the United States, and the rest of the world. These are the Top 10 best, in our editorial opinion, of course, based on the information we could find on the band, their videos online and their current activity level.

A quick note about our list: we’ve made every effort to be accurate about names, dates and performance spots of these great bands. Unfortunately, old web data, the occasional spotty band website as well as lineup changes during the COVID-19 pandemic may have thrown our research for a bit of a loop (feel free to write and update us if you spot an error!)

If you’re looking for the best Journey tribute band for your event that sounds nearly as spectacular as the original, take a look at our list of the best Journey tribute bands of all time! You can’t go wrong with any of them!

Top 10 List of the Ultimate Journey Tribute Bands

# 1 – e5c4p3.

Top 10 Best Journey Tribute Bands 1

Our choice for the absolute BEST Journey tribute band of all time was close, but this incredible “Steve Perry” clone cements the deal: E5C4P3 (pronounced, “Escape”!) is among the first Journey tribute bands ever to exist.

Formed in 1993 , the band went on a whirlwind tour that’s never truly stopped, traveling the world to revive the same energy and spirit that Journey has brought to its fans.

Band founder Jason Kelty , a Steve Perry impersonator who formed E5C4P3 before “tribute bands” were a thing, provides the spot-on, letter-perfect lead vocals. His amazing singing voice contributes to a nostalgic concert experience for Journey fans from start to finish.

Bassist and vocalist Paul Soos provides the counterpoint lead vocals of Journey songs originally voiced by Gregg Rolie. Paul too learned music early on, fronted bands of his own and joined forces with the incredible Jason Kelty to form the very difficult-to-type E5C4P3. The combination of Paul’s and Jason’s voices gives this Journey tribute a real one-two vocal punch.

George McGrew , the band’s guitarist and vocalist, is an experienced and talented musician, having learned to play musical instruments from a very young age, and keyboardist Erney Chaney has been playing the piano since he was a child. In the 80s, he co-founded a popular Christian rock band called “Twenty Twenty”. In 2009 he performed keyboards for Strat5, who was awarded at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio as Fortune Magazine’s “Best Band in Corporate America”.

Drummer Billy Jones has over three decades of drums experience and has performed across the country, Canada, and overseas.

Together, the band continues to define the meaning of the perfect tribute in every packed venue, thanks to their renditions of fan favorites like Open Arms, Separate Ways, and Faithfully . Some of their recent shows include Cleveland and Pittsburgh, and they regularly perform around Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

If you want a band that upholds Journey’s musical legacy and can take your rock experience to a whole new level, don’t sleep on E5C4P3.

# 2 – Voyage

Top 10 Best Journey Tribute Bands 3

VOYAGE is a respected Journey tribute band filled with veteran musicians and brings the most unified, complete Journey experience

The lead vocalist, Hugo Valenti , is best known for his uncanny resemblance to Steve Perry, both in visuals and in sound. It’s the next best thing to the signature sound of renowned vocalist Steve Perry. Seeing him onstage feels like being transported back to the 80s and watching the original lineup perform – a true concert experience for anyone who loves Journey.

Prior to his position as lead vocalist for VOYAGE, singer Hugo was initially the frontman for the band Valentine, which debuted in 1990 on Warner Brothers records.

Other members of the band include Robby Hoffman, Lance Millard, Greg Smith, and Dana Spellman – some of the biggest names in their respective fields. Renowned drummer Charlie Zeleny and keyboardist Al Spinelli also had a brief stint with VOYAGE.

Hoffman previously played lead guitar for In The Pink, a hard rock band based in Boston. Millard leads SIR ELTON, an Elton John tribute band, and he also toured with Fiona and Angel, two 80s rock bands.

Meanwhile, Smith currently provides vocals and plays bass for Ted Nugent . He also has experience doing backup vocals for award-winning artists like Billy Joel and Alice Cooper. Lastly, although Spellman didn’t have any prior rock experience to this, he did teach at Berklee College of Music and has greatly helped VOYAGE perform hundreds of shows across the US.

Together, these world-class New York musicians can sell thousands of tickets and jampack arenas, fairs, and public venues.

Some of their most recent shows include Montclair and Huntington in New Jersey, as well as Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. They’re already scheduled to perform at Atlantic City, Reading, and New York City later this year, so be sure to check those out if you’re interested.

# 3 – Absolute Journey Tribute

Top 10 Best Journey Tribute Bands 4

Absolute Journey Tribute, also known as AJT, is a Journey tribute band from San Francisco that does its best to stay faithful to the original band.

Each show is an energy-filled, unforgettable performance. AJT makes sure to interact with its audience as possible, even taking the time to do costume changes in between sets to maintain the fun and excitement.

Riccardo Curzi , the lead vocalist, can bring the spirit of Journey alive as he is an absolute dead ringer for the band’s most iconic lead singer, Steve Perry. His incredible high-energy performance will certainly leave a mark on the audience,  being one of the few who can pull off Steve Perry’s vocal range and stage movements during concerts – the same energy that brought the band critical acclaim.

The other band members, Marko Stojanovic, Dan Benezra, Andrew Scola, and Jaden Spanier are just as remarkable, matching up to the original band with fantastic accuracy.

One of the coolest things these guys did is to close for a STYX concert in Quebec back in 2017.

Aside from the usual theaters, festivals, casinos, and corporate events, AJT is one of the few Journey tribute bands that perform internationally, having had shows in Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, Vietnam, and the Caribbean, in addition to the US.

The band is also notable for performing on cruise ships, such as Royal Caribbean International, Disney Cruise Line, and Celebrity Cruises.

If you want to know the date and location of their next shows, be sure to check out their website.

# 4 – DSB

DSB journey tribute band

Compared to other tributes on this list, DSB, short for “Don’t Stop Believin” is a relatively recent tribute band, only playing for the first time in 2009. Since then, it has garnered a lot of popularity. Prior to the COVID pandemic, DSB boasted an astonishing tour schedule with approximately 120 shows all over America per year.

With the band’s high-energy performances and accurate renditions of the best Journey songs, it certainly lives up to its self-given title of “World’s Greatest Tribute to Journey.”

Lead vocalist Juan del Castillo has been a professional musician since seemingly since birth. His parents discovered his talent early on and started his voice training at three years old. Juan began his formal career performing in theaters at the tender age of nine.

Roger Cain , (brother of Jonathan Cain of JOURNEY) the lead guitarist, also started music at a young age, learning to strum the guitar as soon as he could reach the cords.

Other band members have included the talented Scotty Kormos on drums, Tony Love on bass, and Henry O’Neill on keyboards.

DSB attributes their success to their faithful renditions of Journey’s performances. They spend hours perfecting their personal take of the sound of Journey and strive to give the fans an accurate mirror of every rhythm and note of the band that they love.

Currently, the band tours the country for every in-demand musical performance. They’ve also partnered with a cruise line to perform on cruise ships bound to Europe and the Caribbean. Some of the places where they’ve already performed include Atlanta and Los Angeles.

# 5 – LIGHTS

Lights - Journey tribute band

Lights may well be the 2nd longest-running tribute band to Journey. Named after Journey’s song about their hometown, this 5-person band has been performing since 2006 for audiences of all ages. They’ve also toured the United States and even overseas, performing in in Asia and the UK.

Although this band is committed to staying true to the sounds that made Journey, they also endeavor to add their unique spirit to the mix and break free from the traditional way of giving tribute. Vocalist Rudy Cardenas , an American Idol vocal finalist, brings a fresh yet timeless take on the iconic stylings of Journey’s Steve Perry.

The band’s other members are equally astounding, with professional musicians Micheal Thompson on drums, Casey McNerney on bass, Jeff Vincent on keyboards, and blazing yet tasteful guitarist Al Estrada, who toured with David Lee Roth in 2018.

The entire band brings energetic performances, amazing note-for-note accuracy, and electrifying sounds that we know and love from Journey. With their lively performances and fresh spirit, they revive Journey’s epic concert atmosphere on every stage.

# 6 – Resurrection

resurrection journey tribute bands

Next on our list of the best Journey tribute bands is Resurrection. Nicknamed The Golden Standard, after which all journey tribute bands are measured, Resurrection is one of the most popular tribute bands working today.

Formed relatively recently in 2014 when the band’s keyboardist and founding members Vic White and Ryan Christopher first played tribute songs to a live audience, the band has grown in popularity and now tours all across the United States.

Lead singer Ryan Christopher nails Journey’s revered lead vocalist Steve Perry to a “T”, from his magnetic stage presence to impressive vocal abilities. Band keyboardist Vic White is a professional musician with decades of experience. You must get those keyboards right in a Journey cover band!

The band members have performed with some of the biggest music names in Nashville and have even worked with Journey and Steve Perry himself.

Resurrection’s primary appeal is its faithful recreation of the whole Journey experience. From their powerful tribute songs to the roaring energy of their concerts, fans are sure to love the authentic 1980 Journey concert experience that they’re in for when they listen to Resurrection.

As a result, Resurrection has gained the attention of the “big box tribute brands”, such as Royal Caribbean International cruises, Fraze Pavilion, and more.

# 7 – Escape

Top 10 Best Journey Tribute Bands 5

Escape is a star-studded Journey tribute band that features five California-based rockstars who have performed in every part of the United States. These five names include big players in the rock and roll world, all of them their own biggest critics when it comes to music.

Master percussionist Gary Ponder is one of the busiest drummers in LA, and is endorsed by top drum equipment maker, Drum Workshop.

Other band members including Chad Smith, Jeff Ellis, and JP Michaels are equally impressive musicians, and together these five bring back the glory of Journey with their stage performances and impressive rendition of Journey’s classic hits.

Escape has performed in high-profile events and places, including the July 4th celebration Liberty by the Lake festival in Texas and on Good Morning Texas in 2007.

Escape is a complete concert experience, throwing you back to the era of rock n’ roll that you know and love. From their stage presence, authentic 80’s-era Journey vibe and set, you can be sure that this band will bring you Journey music at its best.

# 8 – Journey Revisited

Journey Revisited is a costumed and bewigged Journey tribute band that seeks to bring you organically produced, masterful songs exactly like how we all remember the Journey hits to be.

Together, the five band members faithfully recreate the best of Journey’s music, giving their fans the ultimate concert experience just as it would have been back during the band’s highest points.

# 10 – Infinite Journey

Top 10 Best Journey Tribute Bands 8

A non-costumed tribute, Infinite Journey is a five piece band that delivers a musically immersive Journey experience, focusing on the legendary band’s sound, guitar solos, and naturally the soaring vocals that make Journey so iconic. These are experienced musicians determined to bring the voice of Journey back to the present day.

Donovan Duke has years of experience in stage performances from theater to rock bands, and brings to life Steve Perry’s memorable performances for the band. Mike Cooper , the band’s bass player and vocalist, has been passionate about music and rock n’ roll since he was a kid, honing his skills in an electric guitar since the age of 12.

Other band members, such as Paul Bullock on lead guitar, John Arnett on the drums, and Steve Trevino on the keyboards, are equally experienced and talented. The band is so inherently talented, it uses no backing tracks or other live concert “helpers”.

Escape Journey Tribute Band

We all know the words and we’ve all belted them at the top of our lungs at a bar, party or wedding reception. Sometimes considered rock’s most perfect song, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” was released in 1981 as a single from the band’s wildly successful album, Escape. Now, Journey tribute band, Escape, takes the album, as well as the band’s legacy, and brings them to life.

“The song, ‘Don’t Stop Believin’,’ is an anthem that everybody realizes and loves and, as soon as you play that song, everybody is up singing along,” Marvin Sperling, Escape bassist, said during a recent phone interview. “Journey definitely has several songs that touch people that way.”

Formed in 1996 by professional musician Stu Simone (keyboards, vocals and guitar,) Escape was the first Journey tribute band based in Los Angeles.

Since their inception, members have come and gone but, with the recent addition of Perry-esque vocalist Chad Smith, Sperling feels the band is now perfectly crafted for excellent staying power.

“We brought [Smith] in and he just blew us away,” he said. “He is just an extraordinary talent and we decided right then we wanted him as our front man. Since then, we’ve been firing on all cylinders.”

Along with Sperling, Simone and Smith, Escape’s current lineup includes Jay Gore on lead guitar and drummer Gary Ponder.

“A tribute band goes a step further,” Sperling said. “They try to look like the personnel, as close as they can, or find lookalikes. They try to recreate the actual sound of the band with the same kind of instruments, the same kind of amplifiers and create the same kind of experience as a Journey concert. I feel we’ve gotten to a point where we’re pretty close to that.”

Escape has so many similarities to the Journey of the late seventies and early eighties, that some actually prefer their show to the 2014 version of the real thing.

E5C4P3 Brought

The journey, to the lorain palace theater.

March 7, 2021

It's been awhile, but live music finally returned to northeastern Ohio.

Journey tribute band, E5C4P3 played to a COVID restricted "sold out" show at the Lorain Palace Theater on Saturday night.

The band kicked off the show with two songs that were featured on movie soundtracks, "Ask The Lonely" from Two of a Kind and "Only The Young" from Vision Quest .

Lead singer Jason Kelty, then told the audience that they were going to play songs from Journey's last album with Steve Perry, Trial By Fire and go backwards until they got to the first album that Steve Perry was on, which was 1978's Infinity .

It was a very interesting concept and it worked!

Kelty played the part of Steve Perry by wearing similar outfits that Perry wore during different phases of the band.  He wore a red tailed jacket for the first few numbers then changed to white tales for the Raised On Radio part of the show.

The rest of the band, featuring Steve Raz on guitar, Paul Soos on bass, Erney Chaney on keys and Michael Scott Nelson on drums, did a fantastic job of pretty much playing the music note for note and giving the fans exactly what they wanted to hear.

The only misstep by Kelty was when he tried to recreate the "Oh Sherry" video by using a broom as a guitar during the solo of the song.  It was just a bit cheesy.  Other than that, he was spot on vocally and visually the entire night.

The Frontiers portion of the evening featured Kelty in a pink checkered black muscle shirt made famous by Perry in the "Separate Ways" video.  Besides playing the hits from that record, they also broke into my favorite song from that album "Chain Reaction."

The Escape album, Journey's most successful studio album, featured the most songs in the set.  Of course, "Open Arms," "Still They Ride" "Who's Crying Now and "Don't Stop Believin'" were played.  So were album cuts "Escape," "Stone In Love" and what Kelty called his favorite Journey song "Mother Father."  During this seven song set, Kelty really looked the way Steve Perry did in 1981 by wearing a leopard print t-shirt, jeans and white leather Nike shoes with the red swoosh.

After a brief intermission, the band returned to play the earlier Journey tunes.  Hits like "Anyway You Want It," "Feeling That Way," "Anytime" and "The Party's Over (Hopelessly In Love)" went over very well.  But it was also great to hear "Line of Fire" and "People and Places," a rare deep cut that even Journey probably hasn't played since 1980.

During the encore the band even paid tribute to Cleveland legend, Michael Stanley who had just past away from lung cancer, by playing "He Can't Love You."

Very classy move.

If you are in the mood to hear some classic Journey in a live setting, I highly recommend checking out E5C4P3 the next time they play in your area.   These guys put on a hell of a show!

TAKE A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME AND REVISIT STEVE PERRY & NEIL SCHON FOR AN EXPLOSIVE PERFORMANCE OF JOURNEY CLASSIC HITS! (Plus Frampton hits!) This one sold out in summer of 2023 so don’t wait too long to get your tickets!

JOURNEY: Voted TOP PRO JOURNEY TRIBUTE These 5 talented musicians together truly bring the best version of a tribute to Journey with their top-notch musical talent, image and hi-energy stage performance. Unlike many other Journey tribute bands, ESCAPE is 100% LIVE, with NO BACKING TRACKS or ‘sweeteners’ of any kind. This is possible because four of the members have extensive experience as lead singers in other bands, and the band tirelessly spends countless hours perfecting their trademark four-part harmony blend. Playing 100% live allows the band to extend or condense songs and adjust tempos to match the vibe of the crowd at that moment, and of course Journey music simply doesn’t feel right with a click track. ESCAPE has been performing all over the North America – including over 30 states in the USA – to sold-out crowds and multiple encores for over 25 years. The band has opened for America, Europe, Firefall, Dokken, Skid Row, Warrant, Rocklahoma, Y&T, Eric Martin, Steven Pearcy, LA Guns, Jackyl and Survivor among others, has performed backing tracks for TV shows, and even played on Entertainment Tonight (ET). You do not want to miss this!

FRAMPTON : Jeff Ellis is known all over the United States for his exhilarating performance on guitar, he knows how to keep the audience entertained and wanting more.

This new show will be great for your venue and make for a successful event. You want the best? You are getting the best right here with award winning guitarist Jeff Ellis.

You don’t see this on the circuit because it is a hard act to do, but for Jeff it is an honor to be performing Frampton’s greatest hits on guitar and vocally plus bringing the show live for the World to see with a full band and his famous acoustics songs as seen in this video.

As of 2022 Peter Frampton retired due to an incurable health issue to his muscles and his last show in the U.S. was 2018. His fans are begging for a Frampton show and it is way over due.

This show is also going to bring new fans to his music and your venue. This is a hit!!!! Believe me you are going to love this show!

Whatever Happened to Journey’s Original Singer Steve Perry?

W ith the recent announcement that Journey ‘s hit song “Don’t Stop Believin'” has been named the “Biggest Song of All Time” by Forbes, it begs the question… whatever happened to the band’s original singer and frontman Steve Perry ? He performed with Journey from 1977 to 1987, and again from 1995 to 1998 but in recent years has been either MIA or focusing on his solo work.

When Forbes declared the 18-times-platinum certified song the biggest ever, a tune that likely everyone around the entire world has heard, Perry admitted that he was “emotionally stunned.” He got emotional on social media, writing a post that read, in part, “To be part of such a moment as this made me reflect on my parents. By that I mean, though I lost them both years ago, I was so happy for them because they are truly the reason this is happening. My dad was a singer and both of them were very musical. So on behalf of my Mom and Dad, I thank every one of you for so many years of support.”

Steve Perry opened up about the Journey song “Don’t Stop Believin'” being named the “Biggest Song of All Time”

While those young and old know the song to be a classic that you just can’t help but belt out, it wasn’t always a sure thing that it would be a hit. Perry admitted in an older interview that he felt it was a hit with live audiences but it wasn’t getting enough radio play in the 1980s. The song was released in 1981 on the band’s seventh studio album and was instantly praised by critics as “a perfect rock song.”

Perry said about the song, “The lyric is a strong lyric about not giving up, but it’s also about being young, it’s also about hanging out, not giving up and looking for that emotion hiding somewhere in the dark that we’re all looking for. It’s about having hope and not quitting when things get tough, because I’m telling you things get tough for everybody.” While Perry left Journey because he said he lost his passion for singing and had gotten into some party behaviors, he didn’t give up his singing career altogether. He has released several solo albums including 1994’s For the Love of Strange Medicine , 2018’s Traces (plus an alternate version of the album in 2020) and 2021’s The Season . Unfortunately for fans, he did not go on tour with his newer album releases.

Can you guess which one it is?

However, he did please fans when he reunited with his former bandmates to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005. Now, Journey continues to tour and play music without Perry. They are going out on a massive stadium tour this summer with Def Leppard including frontman Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon , Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo, Jason Derlatka and Todd Jensen. Although Perry is not involved in the upcoming tour, he has some exciting announcements of his own.

Steve Perry shares his upcoming plans for his solo music

In May of this year, Perry opened up about his career and admitted that he signed with a new label and has a renewed passion for singing. He joined the band The Effect as they released their version of Journey’s “It Could Have Been You” featuring new vocals by Perry.

Plus, Perry revealed , “I just signed with a new label. I’m very excited about it, and I’ll have an opportunity very soon to work with these very, very musically creative people. I’ll probably announce who I signed with very soon. That’s about as much as I can say, but I’m excited about that, and I am working on stuff.”

As to why he has been avoiding touring, he said, “Well, it’s a long story. Uncle Steve is up in age, and everybody at this age has some aches and pains and things like that. But it’s a really good question that I’ve been asking myself too. And Trev’s been busting my balls about it for a long time, to be honest with you. It’s something that I’m absolutely missing terribly. I can’t even tell you how much, but there’s been a big soulful reclaiming of this original feeling that I had about singing that I needed to get back to. I didn’t want to go out and just turn the wheel or turn the crank.” He added that it is his dream to tour once again, so here’s to hoping!

As far as his personal life goes, the 75-year-old is very tight-lipped about his family. He said in 2019 that he does have a daughter and grandchildren but will not share any details about them.

Thousands of fans respond to Steve Perry and Neal Schon's posts on Facebook.

Journey to celebrate 50th anniversary with 30 shows in 2024: See where they're headed

Journey is continuing the celebration of its five-decade career with a run of 2024 shows.

The 50 th Anniversary Freedom Tour kicks off Feb. 9 in Biloxi, Mississippi and will play 30 dates in North America through April 29 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on Sept. 29 via ticketmaster.com.

Toto, which supported Journey on their tour earlier this year to celebrate their "Freedom" album, will again join Journey founder, guitarist Neal Scho n, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, lead singer Arnel Pineda, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, drummer Deen Castronovo and bassist Todd Jensen as show openers.

Journey's tour finds the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers tearing through a set list of anthems including "Any Way You Want It," "Faithfully," "Be Good to Yourself" and, of course, "Don't Stop Believin'."

When "Freedom" arrived in July 2022, Schon told USA Today that the album title was originally tapped for the band's 1986 release, "Raised on Radio," but then-singer Steve Perry didn't like it, "so we sat on it for many years … when we were tossing around album titles said, why not just call the whole thing 'Freedom?' It's for the times right now."

Schon was also sanguine when reflecting on the band’s legacy.

"It’s quite an accomplishment and I’m very proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve gotten through emotional and personnel changes and survived," he said. "It’s pretty mind-boggling but also a lot of hard work."

Lead vocalist, Jason Paulino , fronts the Great Escape with his powerful vocals and enthusiastic energy. If he looks familiar already, you may have seen him dazzling audiences during multiple performances as a “Star of the Day” and finalist on the New England based television series “Community Auditions”.  When singing the songs of Journey, Jason’s vocals are indistinguishable from Steve Perry - it’s an amazing sight to see and hear.

Rich Vigdor is the band’s lead guitarist.  Rich will dazzle any audience with his note-for-note renditions of Journey’s familiar guitar riffs and solos.

Chris Brunelle  fills a big role with his keyboard and piano playing, a critical piece in so many Journey songs, as well as adding key vocal harmonies.

The mighty backbone of the band is filled by the rhythmic, agile bass playing of band founder, Bob Wheeler , along with drummer, Tony Clement , who conducts the band with power and precision.

Come experience The Great Escape as they breakout their high-energy musical performance and take you on an incredible Journey!
