Earlier Porbandar was known as ‘Pao Bandar’ because of the bread factories.  Porbandar is a coastal city that is located on Saurashtra’s western coast in Gujarat . There are so many tourist places to visit in Porbandar. You can find beautiful beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, museums, the architecture of historical importance, etc. and this makes it a perfect place for everyone.

Porbandar has a hot semi-arid climate and the best time to visit Porbandar is between October to March. It is also a place of historical importance because it is the birthplace of Sudama and the traces of Harapan civilization have also been found here.

2) Krishna – Sudama Temple

It is located at around 1 km distance from Porbandar railway station. The temple is dedicated to Sudama who was a childhood friend of Lord Krishna. There is a maze in the temple, and it is believed that if anyone crosses the maze puzzle then they can rid of all his past sins. The architecture of the temple is also very beautiful. The temple is open from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM and the entry is free of cost.

3) Shri Hari Temple

Shri Hari temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Porbandar and it is located at a distance of 8 km from Porbandar railway station. The temple covers 85 acres of land and its height is 105 feet. The temple comprises 66 pillars and there are idols of numerous Hindu deities like Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesh, Lord Krishna, Goddess Parvati, etc. There is also an auditorium and it used for cultural and spiritual activities.

4) Chowpatty Beach – One of the Serene Beaches in Gujarat

Inside the cave, you can find two tunnels where one leads to Dwarka and the other leads to Junagadh , and every year a big fair is celebrated at this place.

It is also known as Raj Mahal and this place is used as a residence by the successor of Maharaja. Krishna wanted to defeat the asuras and Jarasandha and with the blessings of Ambe Mata, he was able to defeat the Asuras. Later, to celebrate his success he built the Harsiddhi Mata temple. You must climb 300 steps to reach the original Harsiddhi Mata temple on the top of Koylo Dungar hill.

How to watch the 2024 solar eclipse

Chris Sirola, associate professor of  astronomy and physics at the University of Southern Mississippi , gave advice on how to view solar eclipses.

• Sirola said under no circumstances should anyone look at an eclipse without glasses outfitted with special lenses designed for eclipse-viewing. He also noted they're inexpensive and  sell for about $15 per dozen  online.
• He said a welder's mask will work, too. Sirola also said cameras, binoculars and telescopes should be outfitted with a  filter designed for the specific purpose of viewing eclipses .
• You may also see it on the ground. Sirola said as light from the eclipse passes through small openings in leaves on trees, an image of the eclipse can be projected onto the ground or flat surfaces such as a deck similar to how a  primitive pinhole camera  projects images onto film.
• According to NASA, this pinhole camera effect  can be duplicated  with a note card with a small hole in it or even with a colander by holding it between the sun and a flat surface.

NASA map shows where and when to see the total solar eclipse of April 2024, as the path of totality crosses the US

• The total solar eclipse of April 2024 will give more than 30 million people a rare chance to see totality.
• NASA mapped the path of totality across the US, from Texas to Ohio to New York to Maine.
• Here are the best locations, cities, and times to watch the total solar eclipse on April 8.

A total solar eclipse is crossing the US on April 8, 2024, giving more than 30 million people the rare opportunity to watch the moon obscure the sun and darken the skies.

That's just the people who live in the eclipse's path. Countless others can see it just by driving an hour or two, or taking a short flight .

To see totality — the moment when the moon fully blocks the sun — you need to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time.

Luckily, NASA made a map to pinpoint just where you should be, and when you should be there.

Path of totality

How long totality lasts

White lines on the NASA map, running down the path of totality, indicate how long the eclipse will last along those lines.

Where totality lasts longest

The outermost lines along the path show where the eclipse will last a minute or two. On the innermost lines, it will last four minutes.

Texas is a great place to be for the eclipse

Texas hits a home run with this eclipse, which will begin near San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas.

Arkansas and Missouri are next

Then the eclipse will cast its shadow across the Ozarks in Arkansas and southeastern Missouri.

Totality in the Midwest

People in the Midwest can flock to southern Illinois, Indianapolis, or Cleveland to get into the path of totality.

Totality across New York

Much of the northeast can get its eclipse fix by driving to upstate New York. Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and Syracuse are all in the path of totality.

Last chance in Maine

Everyone's last chance to see a total solar eclipse in the contiguous US for another 20 years will be late afternoon in northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

How to watch safely

No matter where you are, don't forget eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from permanent damage.

Eclipse glasses are thousands of times darker than regular sunglasses. They should comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

Beware of counterfeits! Look for the real thing through the American Astronomical Society .

Careful with cameras and binoculars

Don't look at the sun through a camera, telescope, or binoculars either. They will concentrate the sun's rays and injure your eyes, unless you have secured a special solar filter.

When you can look with the unaided eye

Only at the moment of totality can you safely remove your eclipse glasses. Happy viewing!
