CARS Tour Season Reaches Halfway Mark at Caraway

For the second and final time in the 2023 season, both divisions of the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour are set to do battle in the middle of the week.

Caraway Speedway will play host to this mid-week excursion for the series. Built in 1966, the facility has seen drivers like Dale Earnhardt, Harry Gant, Richie Evans, Sam Ard, Jimmy Hensley and many more take checkered flags during its history, but it has since become a staple of the CARS Tour in recent years.

Along with being the site of the famous North-South Shootout since 2020, which expanded to include the CARS Tour last year, Caraway was also the site for the series’ prestigious $30,000-to-win Old North State Nationals in 2022, which was won by defending LMSC Tour champion Carson Kvapil.

Wednesday’s CARS Tour 265 serves as the halfway point for both the LMSC and PLM Tour. The LMSC Tour championship battle grew tighter following a thrilling event at Dominion Raceway, but the PLM Tour title is far from secured with Caraway being one of several diverse tracks remaining on the schedule.

Layne Riggs making debut with Kevin Harvick Inc.

When Layne Riggs arrives at Caraway Speedway, he will not be in his family-owned No. 99 that he piloted to a NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series title last year.

Instead, Layne finds himself with a perfect chance to showcase his talent, as he is set to drive the No. 62 Late Model Stock prepared by Kevin Harvick and Rodney Childers on Wednesday night . Although the deal is currently for one race, Layne intends to make the most of his situation and help build up Kevin Harvick Incorporated’s program.

“I’m just super thankful to KHI for giving me the opportunity to be the first to drive their car besides Kevin,” Layne said. “It reminds me of Dale Jr. giving Josh Berry an opportunity to drive for him and that helped build JR Motorsports’ development program. I’m super honored I was chosen by KHI to do this.”

Layne considers his opportunity with KHI to be a full circle moment in many aspects. His father Scott briefly drove for DeLana Harvick’s dad John Paul Linville in the USAR Hooters Late Model Series, while Childers served as Scott’s crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2005 until 2007.

Those connections helped Layne obtain the No. 62 car for Caraway. After Harvick finished 11 th in the CARS LMSC Tour race at North Wilkesboro last month, he and Childers approached the Riggs family for advice on how to make their car more competitive against top-tier organizations like JR Motorsports and Chad Bryant Racing.

Regardless of Harvick and Childers’ long-term plans in Late Model Stocks, Layne hopes he can be a vital part of that foundation. With Harvick expected to be in attendance on Wednesday while Childers serves as crew chief, Layne understands the expectations placed upon him but is confident he can exceed them and pull off a victory.

“I’m feeling good,” Layne said. “We’re taking what Rodney knows, along with my experience in Late Models and meshing it together to do what we think is best to go out and win a race. Having the resources of KHI and being able to pull so much information, I have the world at my fingertips compared to my family team. It’s an endless well that I hope never quits giving.”

Amidst slump, Carson Kvapil returns to site of biggest win

Just over a year ago, Carson Kvapil captured the most prestigious win of his Late Model Stock career by taking home $30,000 in the prestigious Old North State Nationals at Caraway Speedway.

Kvapil utilized the momentum from that victory to take home the 2022 CARS LMSC Tour championship. He hopes another Caraway triumph on Wednesday will help him break out of a recent slump and extend his advantage in the point standings over Brenden Queen.

“We had pretty much a perfect car in last year’s [Old North State] Nationals,” Kvapil said. “We’re going back [to Caraway] with that same setup, but we’ll see what happens. Everything is changing all the time, but the season has been a good one for us. I thought we had a car to win at Dominion [Raceway] but it just didn’t work out.”

Kvapil found himself on the wrong end of a thrilling battle between himself, Queen, and Bobby McCarty at Dominion. He managed to pass Queen on a late restart, but could not keep his car on the bottom, which ultimately resulted in him finishing fourth after being unable to defend himself against Queen on the top side.

A three-race win streak earlier this year helped establish high expectations for Kvapil through the rest of 2023, so he assigns blame to himself for his recent dry streak. Kvapil said the main issue currently plaguing him is being unable to find a proper balance with his car, which he stressed cannot happen with the LMSC Tour field being so close on speed.

Despite this, Kvapil is not overly concerned about his current situation and anticipates a solid rebound at Caraway. The speed in Kvapil’s car has not wavered following his last win at Ace Speedway, so he knows wins are always realistic goals with JR Motorsports as long as he keeps learning and minimizes mistakes.

“All in all, it’s about being smart,” Kvapil said. “You can’t put yourself out of the race before it even ends. We’re looking forward to consistent finishes. I need to focus on my job at the racetrack and get the car right on race day. When we do that, we’ll have speed.”

Tristan McKee relishes being youngest CARS Tour winner

At just 12 years old, Tristan McKee has already found his way to victory lane in the CARS PLM Tour .

McKee had to outduel Ashton Higgins in the closing stages of the most recent PLM Tour event at Dillon Motor Speedway to reach that milestone, which he admitted was a pleasant surprise after initially entering the series with the goal of just gaining experience.

“We were very emotional,” McKee said. “I didn’t expect [a win] coming into the CARS Tour. I knew we had a pretty good car at Dillon on that Friday, and we didn’t make any adjustments with how hot it was. We pretty much rode the whole race until the last caution. Ashton and I had a pretty good battle, but I got the lead, and we ended up winning.”

McKee had experience in both Pro Late Models and Late Model Stocks before making his PLM Tour debut at Southern National Motorsports Park but knew he would encounter plenty of obstacles while trying to gain respect against his competition.

An overheating issue during the season-opener put McKee in an early hole. Following another poor outing at Ace Speedway, McKee began to find his comfort zone at North Wilkesboro Speedway with a strong fourth place run in a 40-car field, which he eventually parlayed into his first career victory.

The surge McKee has enjoyed over the past three races currently has him 37 points behind Katie Hettinger in the PLM Tour standings. Erasing that deficit will be a challenge for McKee, but he is optimistic the momentum from his Dillon win will continue into Wednesday’s race at Caraway Speedway.

“It’s been a while since I’ve raced [at Caraway],” McKee said. “There’s going to be some good cars there, so I know it’s going to be fun. I’m personally excited because I feel like we’re going to have a good piece.”

The two CARS Tour divisions will be accompanied by Caraway Speedway’s Bandolero and Legends classes on Wednesday evening. The green flag for the PLM Tour race will fly once the Legends event concludes, with the 125-lap LMSC Tour feature immediately following afterwards.

On-track action begins at 7 p.m. ET, with FloRacing providing the coverage.

The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour will crown two champions in the prestigious John Blewett III North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Since 2003, Modified competitors from both the north and south have converged each year in the southeast to prove which region is superior. Now taking place at Caraway, both divisions of the CARS Tour were added to the North-South Shootout docket last year to determine their respective champions.

There is almost no doubt as to who will claim the CARS Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model Tour titles at Caraway. Defending LMSC Tour champion Carson Kvapil leads Brenden Queen by 19 points, while Caden Kvapil effectively locked up the PLM Tour title with a victory in the most recent event at Tri-County Motor Speedway.

Even though the championships are nearly settled, the North-South Shootout still presents one last opportunity for drivers to end the 2023 season with a victory and build momentum heading into a brief but busy winter.

Carson Kvapil on the verge of second straight LMSC Tour title

Ever since he became a full-time driver in the CARS LMSC Tour last year, Carson Kvapil has been the most dominant driver in the series.

Nine victories in two seasons have Kvapil on the precipice of earning his second consecutive LMSC Tour title in Saturday’s North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway. Even though he does not have the championship wrapped up yet, Kvapil has every reason to believe Saturday will be as smooth as the previous 15 races in 2023.

“I’m a little nervous as anybody would be, but I’m pretty excited going into it,” Kvapil said. “We’ve also run pretty good at Caraway even when we weren’t that good. We haven’t dropped out of a single race this year, but we can’t put ourselves in a bad spot. Things are looking good, but we’re going to go contend for a win and let the points play out.”

Kvapil, who has yet to register a finish outside the Top 10 this year, admitted that 2023 has been far more challenging compared to his rookie season with how tough the competition currently is in the LMSC Tour.

Facing stiff competition that includes Brenden Queen, Bobby McCarty, Connor Hall and more, Kvapil managed to accomplish a personal goal of scoring more wins in 2023. He credits his efficiency to the strength of JR Motorsports along with his maturity away from the track when it comes to building relationships inside the team.

Fittingly, Kvapil and JR Motorsports are looking to take their second LMSC Tour at the same track where their stalwart dynamic began back in 2022 with Kvapil’s triumph in the Old North State Nationals. Kvapil knows Saturday will play out differently than that first victory but believes he will be in good shape with the right setup on his car.

A mistake-free afternoon at Caraway is the key for Kvapil to end his season with another victory while simultaneously celebrating a championship alongside his younger brother Caden, which would make them the first set of siblings to win CARS Tour titles in the same year.

“It’s a pretty big deal for [Caden] to win a title in the Pros,” Kvapil said. “That’s a very tough class every week with the Donnie Wilson and Anthony Campi cars. Those are some of the best cars out there, so him winning that championship is pretty cool. If I were to get it done on my end, that’d be even better.”

Against heavy odds, Brenden Queen optimistic heading into Caraway

Brenden Queen understands a lot of circumstances need to fall his way for him to have an opportunity at the CARS LMSC Tour title.

Entering the North-South Shootout with a 19-point deficit to Carson Kvapil, Queen is not heavily focused on the LMSC Tour championship picture but is confident he can close out his debut season with a fourth win on the 2023 season.

“I feel like I don’t really have any pressure on me,” Queen said. “I’m locked into second, so we’re just going to Caraway to do our job, which is to get a pole, lead all the laps and win the race. If the points fall in place, it’s meant to be, but if not, then hopefully we can still get out of there with a win.”

Queen has nearly matched Kvapil in every category this year. The two have combined to win eight of the 15 races on the 2023 LMSC Tour season, both have led over 500 laps and neither driver has recorded a DNF.

The key turning point in the championship occurred in the Old North State Nationals at Tri-County Motor Speedway, where Queen finished a lap down in 15 th after running out of fuel while leading. Kvapil finishing second that night has forced Queen to try and erase that deficit over the last four events, with only minimal results.

Although Queen wishes he could have Tri-County back, he still considers the 2023 season to be a resounding success. With Queen set to return to Lee Pulliam Performance next year, he is eager to finish off the LMSC Tour season finale on a positive note so he can build momentum towards a potential championship run.

“Lee Pulliam Performance is a top team in the CARS Tour,” Queen said. “You have to take us seriously. Everyone works hard and Lee is such a great leader. Bringing fast cars every week against JR Motorsports is something the Virginia boys can be proud of and if we can keep winning, that can only help us for next year.”

Caden Kvapil prepares to wrap up stellar 2023

There will be almost nothing for Caden Kvapil to worry about when the green flag waves for the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

No one on the entry list stands in the way of Kvapil earning his first championship in the CARS PLM Tour. With two victories at Caraway on his resume, Kvapil is determined to add one more accomplishment on the year before hosting the PLM Tour championship trophy.

“It’s a big stress-reliever knowing I basically have [the championship],” Kvapil said. “There’s still the owner’s points title, but we have a good lead there too. Caraway is one of the better tracks for me and we pretty much led the whole race in June. I’m feeling really good about our chances going into this one.”

Moving into Highlands Motorsports’ backup car during the summer was the difference maker for Kvapil following an inconsistent start to the 2023 season.

After only two Top 5s in the first six races, Kvapil has nearly been unstoppable since taking home a checkered flag at Caraway in June. While behind the wheel of the Highlands Motorsports backup, Kvapil has only finished outside the Top 5 once, which came at Wake County Speedway due to a last lap crash while battling for the win.

For Kvapil, he has personally seen improvement with the way he provides feedback to his team. The effective communication Kvapil has shared with Highlands Motorsports has allowed him to find more of a comfort zone in the No. 96, which was crucial in securing the PLM Tour title before the North-South Shootout.

Outside of a fourth win on the year, the only thing that could make the end of 2023 even better for Kvapil would be to have his brother Carson join him as a CARS Tour champion.

“We both have good leads, but you never know what’s going to happen,” Kvapil said. “This is a pretty big piece of history, but it’s cool to see [Carson’s] success over the past few years with his championships in the Late Model Stocks and Supers. It would be cool to finally be up there with him with my own championship in the CARS Tour.”

There will be plenty more storylines to follow during the final race of the 2023 CARS Tour season.

Both Kvapil brothers are also in the running for the Keen Parts Challenge, a separate four-race championship shared between the two CARS Tour divisions that will pay $10,000 to the winner. Carson leads his brother Caden by just two points heading into the final race, but Brenden Queen remains within striking distance eight points behind.

Saturday will also see Kaden Honeycutt complete a marathon that includes four races in two days. After running the ARCA Menards Series West and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finales at Phoenix Raceway on Friday, Honeycutt will take the long flight to North Carolina to run both the CARS LMSC and PLM Tour features.

The two CARS Tour races will make up the first half of the North-South Shootout. At 1 p.m. ET, the PLM Tour will run their 100-lap race before the LMSC Tour puts a bow on the 2023 season with a 125-lap feature. The 602 Modifieds and Tour Modifieds will follow the LMSC Tour event.

FloRacing will carry live coverage of all the on-track action.

One of my closest friends, Kim (who travels with me some), now works for Facebook. At the time it was still a brand new job for her and she needed to go out to the main campus in Menlo Park for training. She mentioned she would probably go that fall and invited me along.

Seeing as though I was already traveling for most of October, I didn’t think it was going to work. However, the dates turned out to be a couple of days after I got home from Iceland and about four days before I left for Dallas . That wasn’t going to work…or was it?

Sometimes you do what you have to do to capitalize on experiences you may never again get the opportunity to do. Kim had no idea when or if she would have a need to return to the main campus so my Facebook headquarters tour was either now or possibly never. Psshh…adding two more hours to the jet lag difference wasn’t going to matter that much, right? Especially when the hotel and car are already provided for Kim by Facebook. I’m a bonus! 😉

And, just like that, I booked my flight, ignored the fact that my travel dates for October grossly outweighed the days I would be home and told Kim I was on board! Not many people get this opportunity and who needs sleep anyway?

Now that I have been a bit dramatic in the re-telling of my decision making, I should mention that there is no Facebook headquarters tour open to the public. Facebook doesn’t offer them and you can’t walk through campus without knowing an employee who is willing to guide you the entire time. And no, sauntering in hoping you’ll get lucky by asking for an exception isn’t going to work.

We arrived at the Classic Campus and entered Building 10 early since thankfully, we didn’t have any traffic issues in transit from the hotel . Kim had already given my name to Facebook a while back to let them know I was coming.

They verified my ID, checked me in on an iPad and the next thing I know I had my temporary Facebook permit around my neck on a lanyard. It was super easy!

First Impressions

Facebook is anything BUT your typical corporate headquarters. It straight up reminded me of Disneyland honestly. Its very colorful, happy vibe looked a lot like walking down Main Street in Disneyland without all the people.

If I remember correctly, it’s designed to look like the streets of Palo Alto and having visited Palo Alto (on this same trip), I would agree that it does!

We were so early that breakfast hadn’t started yet so we stopped in at Philz Coffee for coffee and hot chocolate while we waited for breakfast to open.

It is gigantic. This is just part of the serving area. I won’t get into how much seating the cafe has because it went on for ages.

And let’s talk about the timing of breakfast for a second.

I thoroughly love that breakfast in this workplace is served later from 8-10am. If you don’t like to eat early in the morning ( 🙋‍♀️), then you can eat after getting a little work done.

They accommodate all diets including vegetarian, vegan and there’s a juice bar too. There were even vegan tater tots which as you can tell I took full advantage of even though I’m not vegan. They tasted the same as nonvegan tots-yummy!

My breakfast buffet included French toast with vegan syrup, eggs, fruit, maple chicken sausage, vegan tater tots, and freshly squeezed OJ!

That freshly squeezed OJ I had? I know that’s a popular term, but this really was just the juice from the orange squeezed into a glass. No other additives. It was amazingly fantastic and reminded me of the freshly squeezed OJ I had all over Morocco !

Welcome to Facebook

Full and happy from a fantastic breakfast, we ventured out and came upon Hacker Square, the main square where movies, parties and even Q&A sessions by Mark Zuckerberg himself are held. Interesting name, isn’t it? I will explain that in a minute but first look closely at this photo.

See the dark gray concrete squares? Those spell out HACK in letters so big you can see them on a satellite view from Google Maps! The one in this picture is the “H”.

Now look on the ground just above the H. Right below the red columns (or in front of depending on how you visualize) is a series of nine dark gray stripes. Those will be important below so keep reading!

I visited in the month of October. Facebook calls it “Hacktober” as it is the name of their annual campaign designed to maintain a security-conscious culture. The campaign runs the entire month and includes everything from phishing tests to contests and workshops.

Okay so back to Hacker Square. As you saw previously, there is “The Hacker Company” at the top of the one building. Here inside this building, there is “Hack” followed by motivational snippets.

Hacker Square, Hacker Company, Hack spelled out in large concrete squares on the ground. What is with all the Hacker stuff?

Well, Mark Zuckerberg explains here how they use “the hacker way” at Facebook as a unique company management approach.

And, wondering about those nine dark gray stripes? They are a monument to the illegal crosswalk , an event that happened as a part of an overnight hackathon in 2007. It’s definitely an interesting read!

 Left: I like it. 👍 |   Right: I love it! ❤️

Keep in mind that although this campus does have visitors, it is not open to the public and was built to provide a positive work experience and atmosphere. Everywhere I looked there were fun things like this to do, places to express opinions or deep thoughts and an environment that promotes comfort. We saw many employees working outside at tables in the courtyard, sitting under trees, or working from the coffee shop and cafes!

Working from the Spa at Facebook

Bet you weren’t expecting that one were you? I knew ahead of time we would be visiting the on-campus spa at Facebook. They had booked Kim in for a pedicure as part of her visit. It’s only for employees though so while I couldn’t get one, they brought me back and let me sit in the massage chair next to her. That was what I needed anyway after flying across the Atlantic and then across the USA in 3 days’ time!

Thank you to the Facebook employee who took this photo because well, you try taking a good selfie in a VR headset! Right: Kim is better at it than me!

We were both booked into a demo of the latest Oculus. This was my first experience with virtual reality and it was pretty amazing. It had me thinking I was on top of a skyscraper about to fall off. Yes, I knew I was perfectly safe inside a building with a flat floor, but virtual reality makes you think real reality. I thought twice about each step I took and might have let out a tiny scream…or two…or three!

Crossing underground-you can walk or take one of the many bikes available on campus!

After Oculus, we decided to cross over to the Bayfront Campus to explore one of the newer kids on the block, Building MPK 20. Completed in 2015, there are lots of interesting facts about MPK 20. Designed by Frank Gehry, the architect behind designs such as Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, this 433,555 square foot two-story building has warehouse-style office space with parking below for 1,500!

Above the office space? Eh, no big deal…it’s just a nine-acre green roof! It only includes more than 350 trees and is home to hundreds of local birds. Inspired by the Highline in NYC, there are also work cabanas and cafes. As I said, no biggie!

What about sustainability? Check. The insulation of the green roof plus MPK 20’s energy systems combine to make it 25% more efficient than Title 24 which is California’s tough energy code. That is serious sustainability!

and its beautiful art! Facebook has an A rtist I n R esidence program that focuses on integrating art in the workplace so that people don’t necessarily set it apart from its surroundings. It isn’t meant for the art to fade into the background but instead to become an essential part of the work environment.

The artists are encouraged to immerse in the culture and are allowed to explore the buildings, find where they want to display their art, and then are given an entire studio of resources to bring their artistic creation to life. While I’m sure the interview process (as with any hire at Facebook) is extremely selective, how cool is it to have that kind of freedom as an artist?

I wish I had known about the AIR while I was on campus so I could have figured out the artist who painted this. I fell in love with it and photographed it from all angles. We saw a lot of art on the main campus too but inside photography near office workspace wasn’t encouraged. However, you can read more on the AIR and see a photo tour of several of its creations .

Left: Ship Happens here | Right: Be aware of foxes

That’s right, folks. Ship happens here at Facebook. Wherever you need to send your Ship, they have you covered!

My favorite find? Learning there is a family of foxes that chose to raise their babies in the Zen garden on campus. As this article states , the foxes adopted approximately 2,500 proud parents into their skulk (what you call a group of foxes…who knew?) in the form of Facebook employees!

Facebook Swag

You better believe I took full advantage of all the Facebook and Instagram swag I could find. Kim had already gotten me a turquoise Instagram shirt. I bought another one in hot pink, a charcoal gray Instagram sweatshirt, a black Facebook shirt, a WhatsApp pen, and a “Facebook Like” magnet.

So, yes, if you’re keeping track, those are all blog colors! 🙌

I also got the cutest little kid’s Instagram and Facebook shirts for my nephew. Even though I purchased larger sizes, he will outgrow them soon and my sister is already begging me for new ones. The problem is they can only be bought from the store on campus. Since they are rare and unique to the public, I should have known she would love them and thought to buy several in much bigger sizes!

Whew, that concludes my Facebook headquarters tour. What a fantastic experience!! THANK YOU KIM!!

Hopefully, this gives you some insight into not only what a Facebook headquarters tour is like, but also the positive working environment that Facebook provides. Hence why I call it the happiest place in tech. Isn’t it amazing to think that this multi-billion dollar global company was started by a student on a college campus?

If you know someone who works for Facebook and they invite you to visit the main campus in Menlo Park, don’t think about it. Just do it. And, if you are one of the few who has had the opportunity for a Facebook headquarters tour, what was your favorite part?

‘Til next time…

Looks like such a fun and creative place to visit! Must have been surreal being with some of the greatest tech minds in the world 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sam-It was definitely an interesting day. Cool to see what all goes on during a FB day! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Wow, I had no idea the Facebook campus was this cool of a place! I wish it was open to the public…I don’t know anyone who works there, but I’d love to see it!

You mentioned coffee at Philz…I LOVE ME SOME PHILZ! I’m in Chicago, and it’s finally making its way out here – yay!

Hi Jim-I knew it probably had some cool features, but I really had no idea just how cool and unique of a workplace it is. Not sure if they will ever open it up to the public or not. I actually wasn’t familiar with Philz (not a huge coffee drinker though) and I lived in LA for a few years. Thanks for reading! 🙂

This is just like my office except it’s nice. Seriously though, how cool is it that you got to write on Facebook’s wall. I would love to have seen some of the comments that were left.

Hi Ed-Haha! I know right? There were definitely some interesting ones I assure you! And if this is what your office is like, I want to tour it! 🙂 Thanks for reading! 🙂

Love that you got a Facebook tour. Years ago, Therese and I worked in Silicon Valley at an Internet startup. And while all the bells and whistles and bright colors and all the perks look really really cool, there is one often-overlooked and underlying message that still pervades at Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook … we are providing you all of these cool things so you don’t have to leave work because we expect you to work REALLY REALLY long hours. Looks like you had a grand time though.

Hi Michael-That is not one bit surprising to me honestly. Makes complete sense! From an outsider though, it looks cool and eats even better! Haha, thank for reading! 🙂

Now that’s a workplace with a difference. I could feel the happy vibe and I’m not even there physically. It was a great idea taking a tour of the FB headquarters. The restroom details are incredible…they thought of everything!

Hi Punita-It was definitely a happy vibe! And they did think of everything detail-wise, you’re right! Thanks for reading! 🙂

What an amazing insight into Facebook! This workplace doesn’t look like anywhere I’ve worked for sure, it doesn’t even look like somewhere people get work done. I liked to idea of the spa and ice team the most 😉

Hi Laura-It doesn’t look like anywhere I’ve worked before either, I assure you! The spa and the food were both definitely HUGE pluses! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Wow ! I still can’t believe you actually made it in ! The campus is really colourful like Disney, as you said ! For me, if I ever get to visit it, I would be most looking forward to the cafeteria ! I heard it is good varieties with quality ! Question, did you have to pay for your meals ? =p

Hi Jeremy-It is so like Disney, isn’t it?? I wish it was open to the public, but unless you know someone you can’t visit unfortunately. No, I didn’t have to pay for my meals. The only thing I had to pay for was any of the merchandise I bought! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Woah… what an incredible work environment! I wonder how distracted employees would get – hmmm- pedicure midday, please! So cool that you got to get an insiders tour. What an opportunity!

Hi Alison-I know, I’m not sure I would get any work done especially being allowed to do it wherever! Pedicures at lunch would be great…massage at the end of the day even better! It was definitely a fabulous opportunity. Thanks for reading! 🙂

Ha, Disneyland is a great way to describe it! Looks so colorful and fun. I’m sure the employees love working there.

Hi Carmen-They do enjoy working there and it shows! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Such a cool and interesting place to get the opportunity to see the inner workings of. It looks like such a fun place to work and I wish other companies would take a leaf out of their books and treat their workforce in a similar way, even more so for menial jobs really!! It must give the workers so much more moral!

Hi Nicola-I totally agree! Thanks for reading! 🙂

Do you know how I could arrange some sort of visit or appointment at the Facebook visitor center? I was a victim of ID theft and I lost my Facebook account as a result. I am unable to get back I to my account even after sending my ID to the security department. I am willing to fly to California to try to get my account back. It has so many photos from my past – which I cannot access anywhere else. I also want to make sure the hacker cannot use the account against me. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Sean-Unfortunately, I am unable to help as I am just like anyone else with a Facebook account. Also, Facebook doesn’t do visits or appointments of this nature or to the public in general. I’m so sorry to hear about your account, that is awful and I truly hope you are able to recover it. Thank you for reaching out and I wish I was able to answer differently!

Club Car Championship: How to watch on Golf Channel, storylines and more

A scenic view of The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

A scenic view of The Landings Golf & Athletic Club.

Change Text Size

The Korn Ferry Tour’s domestic season kicks off in Savannah, Georgia, for the seventh playing of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. All four rounds of competition will air live on Golf Channel. Here’s what you need to know about the event and how to follow the action:

1. Strong Georgia roots

Fifteen players in the field played collegiately in the state of Georgia: nine from Georgia Tech (Shunyat Hak, Paul Haley II, Connor Howe, Chris Petefish, Seth Reeves, Ollie Schniederjans, Ross Steelman, Richy Werenski), four from University of Georgia (Erik Compton, Joey Garber, Trent Phillips, Spencer Ralston) and three from Georgia Southern (Ben Carr, Steven Fisk, Mason Williams). Additional players with local and regional ties to the area include Dawson Armstrong (born in Valdosta, Georgia), Emilio Gonzalez (a resident of St. Simons Island, Georgia), Billy Kennerly (plays from Alpharetta, Georgia) among others. Columbus, Georgia, native Ben Carr will also make his Korn Ferry Tour debut as a sponsor exemption this week.

2. The season-long race heats up

Mason Andersen sits atop the Korn Ferry Tour Points List through the first six events of the season after logging three top-10 finishes, highlighted by his first career title at last month’s 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. With the win in Argentina, Andersen earned an exemption for The Open Championship 2024 at Royal Troon. The top 30 finishers on the Points List at the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2025 season. Five players who finished T8 or better in this event last year went on to earn PGA TOUR cards at season’s end: David Skinns (Winner), Tom Whitney (T2), Max Greyserman (T6), Jacob Bridgeman (T6) and Nicholas Lindheim (T8).

3. Young talent continues to rise

All six players to win an event this season are first-time winners on the Korn Ferry Tour (Jeremy Paul, Aldrich Potgieter, Isaiah Salinda, Kevin Velo, Mason Andersen and Taylor Dickson). South African Potgieter, the youngest Korn Ferry Tour member this season, won The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club in January and became the youngest winner on either the Korn Ferry Tour or PGA TOUR since 1931 (19 years, 4 months and 11 days). Two weeks later at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard, Potgieter recorded a second-round 11-under 59 to become the youngest player to record a sub-60 round in a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event.

4. An indicator of future success?

Many past champions of the Club Car Championship have gone on to have success on the PGA TOUR. Reigning champion Skinns has posted two top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR in 2024, including a T7 finish at last week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open. Sam Burns, who won the inaugural playing in 2018 as a rookie, earned his first PGA TOUR card in 2018 and has notched five PGA TOUR titles and 32 top-10 finishes in 141 starts. Adam Svensson won the 2021 Club Car Championship and currently has one PGA TOUR victory at The RSM Classic 2022.

Video shows massive boulders crushing cars after taiwan earthquake, taiwan earthquake dashcam video ... shows boulders crushing cars.

Dashcam footage capturing the Taiwan earthquake shows just how terrifying it was for those caught in it ... 'cause it sparked a rock slide, which crushed vehicles on the road down below.

Check it out ... you see several cars being pelted with boulders after the 7.4 magnitude quake. The footage kicks off with one driver making his way up a winding road. The driver is heard making concerned noises as an emergency alert sounds, likely a phone.

As the earth shakes ... the cars pull to a stop to wait out the tremble. However, as the video shows, the vehicle in front quickly goes in reverse ... making its way down the road as a massive boulder comes crashing down, making direct contact and a massive impact.

The dashcam driver then puts his own car in reverse ... narrowly missing a collision with another piece of falling rock. Several more pieces of debris fall from the sky -- before the footage comes to an end. It's pretty wild, to be honest ... like something out of a movie.

Wednesday's earthquake and subsequent aftershocks brought tragedy to Taiwan, with at least 9 people dying and over 963 others injured in the natural disaster.

The earthquake was the largest to hit Taiwan in 25 years ... as a 1999 quake had a 7.6 magnitude and left 2,400 people dead. While most held on for dear life, others continued to work through the tremors ... including some news station staffers, who were on the air.

The extent of the disaster left behind by Wednesday's shake is still being determined ... but over 100 people are still trapped under rubble, according to The Washington Post.

NORWALK, Conn. ( WFSB /Gray News) - A man faces charges after police pulled him over for driving with a baby on his lap and a loaded gun and marijuana in the car on Sunday.

“A patrol officer observed a man driving around with a baby on his lap,” said Norwalk Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts. “The officer pulled the car over and did not see an infant car seat anywhere in the car.”

The officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana in the car that 26-year-old Naud Rodriguez was driving.

“Officers searched the car which led to the discovery of .762 pounds of marijuana and a Sig Sauer P365 loaded handgun,” Evarts said.

Rodriguez was charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, negligent storage of a firearm, risk of injury to a child, illegal transfer of child-front seat restraint, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and use of drug paraphernalia.

NFL meets Korn Ferry Tour during Pro-Am

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Golf and football. There’s probably not a whole lot you would initially think that the two sports have in common. But Wednesday, out at the Club Car Championship Pro-Am, those two worlds collided – NFL players driving, chipping, and putting alongside Korn Ferry Tour professionals.

According to the NFL guys, there’s actually a lot they can learn from the golf pros and apply to their own craft.

“How to control your breathing, having confidence with each shot – that’s huge on the football field as well,” said Jaguars tight end Evan Engram. “Each play resetting and forgetting the last play, trying to be the best on the next play – I think that’s kind of the same with golf.”

“They’re so good, it puts things into perspective,” said 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs. “Being a professional athlete, sometimes we might feel like we’re good at everything, but golf is a very humbling sport. To be out here with actual professional golfers – one, just seeing how dedicated they are to their craft, even out here in the rain as they’re preparing for a big weekend of competition, but two, just seeing how skilled they are is what’s super impressive.”

Playing in Wednesday’s Pro-Am was also a homecoming of sorts for Engram and Dobbs. Both NFL players grew up in the state of Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. Dobbs is a native of Alpharetta, while Engram grew up in Powder Springs.

“In north Georgia, they send us down to south Georgia to learn about the history of the state in the 8th grade. I also spent some spring breaks down in Savannah, so I love the city of Savannah and all the history around it. To be back down here now as an adult and take in the history from a different perspective and also play some really good golf is a lot of fun,” said Dobbs.

The pros, meanwhile, are hoping they’ll be able to enjoy their time out on the course throughout the entire weekend.

“It’s a beautiful place,” said Korn Ferry Tour Professional Fred Biondi. “The conditions are amazing. It’s a great golf course. It’s a good test, too. I’m excited.”

The first tee times of tournament play are set for 7:10 a.m. Thursday morning.
