River Fox Train - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (2024)

Visit Sacramento

Adventure Awaits on Sacramento's River Fox Train

Nestled in the heart of the Sacramento region awaits a thrill that blends history, agriculture, and an experience you won’t forget. The River Fox Train offers many adventures that allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the moment, build lasting memories, and uncover hidden gems at every turn.

Two of the most popular experiences at the River Fox Train are the refresher trains: themed adventures aboard the train that immerse you in all the fun, and the railbikes: custom-made two-passenger “bikes” that you can cruise up and down the rails in Sacramento.

Cruising on the Railbikes

We arrived early at the River Fox Train for our railbike excursion, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy the oversized Connect Four and Jenga game as well as corn hole and a few other activities. Before boarding our railbikes, we had a safety briefing which was delivered by an experienced rail guide who would also be one of the two guides that would lead our excursion.  We were relieved to learn that the bikes, which are actually four-wheeled and made by one of the River Fox Train’s engineers, have electric motors as well as pedals so we didn’t have to worry about our balance or our athletic abilities.

River Fox Train Depot

With the sun high in the sky, we set our railbikes into motion. To our surprise, the route of the experience had us cruising through shaded tracks, farmland, a sunflower field, and beautiful nature. We welcomed the breezes caused by the speed of the railbikes, which reached up to 23 miles per hour. The entire experience was 10 miles round-trip and lasted about an hour and a half from start to finish. Halfway through our ride, we were able to get off the bikes for a stretch, indulge in a provided snack with ice-cold water, and switch drivers if we wanted to. During this time, the rail guides turned the bikes around for our journey back to the depot.

There are plenty of railbike excursions to choose from, including a 6 a.m. sunrise bike and an 8 p.m. sunset bike, which provides a headlight on your helmet and an LED light under the railbikes. Depending on which part of the day you cruise along the tracks, you will be treated to sightings of various wildlife, including turkeys, coyotes, deer, egrets, and even bobcats. Railbike excursions happen rain or shine, but if the weather is abnormally hot, cold, or stormy, they could be canceled by staff and rescheduled for a more desirable day weather-wise. If this is the case, guests will be notified in advance. For a comfortable ride, be sure to apply sunscreen, wear sunglasses, and have closed-toed shoes on, which are required.

River Fox Train Murder Mystery

A Murder to Solve

We also had the opportunity to step aboard the Murder Mystery Refresher Train where actors from Interactive Entertainment took the experience to a whole new level with a thrilling whodunit plot. We were able to interact with a cast of characters who would draw us into their squabbles and a storyline that would ultimately end in murder. It was fun to observe these skilled actors who, although most likely guided by some sort of script, effortlessly infused their performances with a necessary touch of improvisation as they engaged with guests on the train. One of our favorite parts was using our detective skills to try and solve the whodunit and the why, all the while indulging in a few drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), a delicious charcuterie board, and dessert. We know you’re dying to know if we were able to solve the case. The answer is yes, yes we did, but we won’t give the ending away here.

The River Fox Train provides several other experiences as well. From a boba tea train, which includes boba tastings, to the River Fox Refresher which includes beer, wine, and mimosas, there is something for any date, family gathering, or a friendly night out. – all of which provide a fun time. They also have special holiday experiences for families around Halloween and Christmas. Who wouldn’t want to trick or treat aboard the Pumpkin Patch Express or sing carols and meet Santa Claus on the Magical Christmas Train? These holiday refreshers are a unique way to bring in the holiday season and, if you want, you can even rent out the train for your own holiday party or other event.

The History

Dating back to 1911, the train’s origins trace back to its original purpose of transporting passengers between Sacramento and Woodland. However, with the development of improved roads and cars, its purpose shifted from transporting people to transporting freight. Over the years, various excursions came and went, but today, the River Fox Train proudly owns and operates the line. This transition from one role to another is not an uncommon story for short-line trains. The most important thing is that the line remains active, ensuring its viability, especially in the event that it needs to be converted back into a vital transportation corridor.

The River Fox Train granted us an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the Sacramento region’s rich history and the flourishing agricultural landscapes that surround it. Witnessing the origins of our food sources and those who harvest those goods while riding a railbike fit for two and solving mysteries on a thrilling train ride along the river with friends and loved ones was something we will never forget. With Sacramento’s diverse array of activities, culinary delights, and sights to see, we recommend that you not overlook the hidden gem of the River Fox Train, as it is a must-try experience for everyone. Why wait any longer? Book your experience on the River Fox Train today and make memories that will last a lifetime.  You can thank us later.

Sacramento River Fox Train

The Sacramento River Fox Train runs from West Sacramento 10 miles to the outskirts of Woodland and back. The Train starts at the edge of the Sacramento River and then travels through fertile farmland for five miles before it reverses back to the train depot.

Pulled by a diesel locomotive, the Train features a concession car, a club car, and open-air cars. In addition to the train ride, trips can include food, entertainment, and live music. In addition to train lifts, visitors can book two-seater Railbike trips on select dates.

Popular excursions include a tasting, boba tasting, beer tasting, and a gem-mining adventure train. Seasonal train excursions such as Pumpkin and Magical Christmas Train are also offered. Reservations are suggested for seasonal tours.

Sacramento River Train History

The Sacramento River Fox Train runs on a line built in 1911 by the Woodland and Sacramento Railroad and operated by the Northern Electric Railway as an electric interurban railroad connecting Yolo County farmlands with Sacramento.

Soon after, the railroad became the Sacramento Northern Railway, providing passenger and freight service. Passenger service ceased in the 1940s with the beginning of World War II. The Western Pacific Railroad purchased the Sacramento Northern Railway, which was later merged with Union Pacific in 1984.

Sacramento River Train

The Yolo Shortline Railroad merged with the Sierra Railroad Company in 2003 and, in addition to hauling freight, began offering passenger excursions as the Sacramento River Train. Today, the Train is called the River Fox Train and is operated by the same company that runs the Nothern California Skunk Train and the Filmore train in Southern California.

River Fox Train offers unique year-round excursions | Focus on West Sacramento

F eb. 1—If you are looking for a departure from the ordinary while going on an extraordinary adventure, then look no further than the train tracks leading to West Sacramento's River Fox Train.

River Fox Train, located at 18095 County Road. 117, offers an experience you can't get anywhere else in the area. River Fox Train genuinely has something for everyone, from exclusive Railbikes to Murder Mystery Trains and holiday events for kids.

"River Fox Train is a super cool and unique opportunity that the local community gets," said Public Relations Manager for Mendocino Railway Kimberly Preciado. "People don't expect this to be so close to home when they hear about us. We are located in West Sacramento, so it's a little bit out of the main hub of Sacramento, but once people do find out about the rides, they recommend it to everyone. The word of mouth for us is widespread here."

After a rebrand in the summer of 2020 to avoid confusion with Old Sacramento's train rides, the company landed on a cute fox as the company's mascot. Since then, they have been yearning to get locals or visitors from afar onto their rides.

One of the main attractions for the company are the Railbike rides.

Inside a tandem-seated four-wheel vehicle, two people can either pedal or get some help via the bike's 500-watt electric assist motor as they ride along the tracks.

Composite wheels allow the bike to remain on the track for a nice and stable ride through farmland, open fields and anything else one can find along the 10-mile round-trip ride. Nine bikes can head out at a time for a total of 18 people per trip. Each ride takes up about an hour.

The rides take place on the same tracks as the train but are scheduled separately. No trains are on the tracks while the railbikes are out, and vice versa.

"They are unique to the north coast," Preciado stated. "We also have them up in Fort Bragg and in Ventura. They are so fun. On the ride, there is a moment where you get off and walk around and learn about the history of the tracks. It's a super cool and unique experience."

The company recently wrapped up the 2023 holiday ride season with its famous festive Christmas ride.

"The Christmas season was so great for us," Preciado said. "We had a year breaking number of people come out for our Christmas trains. When you think of Christmas, you think of the movie "The Polar Express," and everyone wants that experience."

For the Christmas ride, families get assigned seating throughout the train. Hot chocolate and cookies are provided for the one-hour ride while live music fills each cabin as a guitarist goes up and down singing carols. Santa Claus and Miss Claus are also on hand to provide each child with a one-on-one experience.

Coming up festivity-wise is the Valentine's Day dinner ride.

Preciado says three days are available for the more intimate sit-down event. The rides take place Feb. 13 through the 15th, starting at 6:30 p.m. Dinners include your choice of beef, chicken, or veggie, with an appetizer, glass of wine (available for purchase) and dessert.

"If interested, I would encourage people to book it early," Preciado said. "When it's Valentine's Day, places get reserved like crazy. With this ride being more intimate, there aren't as many open seats available."

In the coming months, River Fox Train will also bring back its Easter rides that are kid-friendly and tailored more toward families. An egg hunt will occur right before the ride on the company's front lawn. Once the hour-long ride begins, children will have an opportunity to meet with the Easter Bunny.

"I think it's special when we go out and hear from people that come up to us mentioning they have heard of us or did the Christmas or Easter rides," Preciado said. "It makes us feel great, and it's why we try to make our holiday trains so special. People look forward to those every year."

The Murder Mystery Train also remains a staple for the company, taking place on the first Saturday of every month. While kid-friendly, everyone on the ride is encouraged to be aged 13 or over.

"We have enhanced the product slightly since last year," Preciado stated. "The food has been enhanced, but you still get everything you'd get from the ride last year."

The Murder Mystery Train is contracted out to a local acting company and is longer than the regular rides, lasting about two and a half hours.

"Each month is a different theme," Preciado stated. "You get the entire story with someone being murdered, getting a chance to use your sleuthing skills and try to solve the case along with the actors. You will, of course, also get dinner and dessert to go with the shows."

The formerly offered wine train has been rebranded to what is now called "The Old Vine Express."

"It's more of an elevated experience and is meant to be a little bit more luxurious," Preciado said. "You get a real winery experience on the trip, paired with a nice view and ride."

The Old Vine Express is offered during select Saturdays of the month.

The River Fox Refresher, which includes beer and canned cocktails in an open bar-type setting, is also offered every week when holiday rides aren't happening.

So, whether you want to go with your family or friends, ride a train, ride the Railbikes, or even go during a holiday or maybe a regular day, River Fox Train staff are always thinking of different ways to dress up their rides.

"If you haven't tried us out yet, I highly encourage you to try one of our train rides or the Railbikes," Preciado said. "It's definitely something worth coming to check out at least once in your lifetime."

A full schedule of rides and booking information can easily be found on their website at riverfoxtrain.com/experiences/railbikes/ .

If you are looking for a departure from the ordinary while going on a local adventure, then look no further than the train tracks leading to West Sacramento’s River Fox Train.

River Fox Train, located at 18095 County Rd. 117, offers an experience you can’t get anywhere else in the area. River Fox Train genuinely has something for everyone, from exclusive railbikes and murder mystery dinners to beer and wine trains and holiday events for kids.

After a rebrand in the summer of 2020 to avoid confusion with Old Sacramento’s train rides, the company landed on a cute fox as the company’s mascot. While they have been back to regular service rides with some regulations due to COVID-19 since March 6, 2021, General Manager Rob Peterson still wants to get the word out there for anyone who hasn’t taken a ride.

“We are still attempting to get awareness out there that we are here and ready,” Petersen said. “The people who know about us are extremely supportive, but we still have to tap into the Woodland market.”

One of their main attractions is the railbikes.

Inside a tandem-seated four-wheel vehicle, two people can either pedal or get some help via the bike’s 500-watt electric assist motor as they ride along the tracks.

Composite wheels allow the bike to remain on the track for a nice and stable ride through farmland, open fields, and anything else one can find along the 10-mile round trip ride. Ten bikes can head out at a time for a total of 20 people per trip. Each ride takes up about an hour.

“The railbikes are super unique,” Peterson said. “There are only a couple of spots in California that have these railbikes. I’ve had people make it a weekend trip from all over California to take our railbike rides. It’s super unique to be on the railways riding a bicycle. You drift off into an area with no roads because the tracks go through farms. You are traveling in an area that nobody aside from a farmer in a tractor might go.”

A full schedule of rides and booking information can easily be found on their website at riverfoxtrain.com/experiences/railbikes/.

The company also, of course, offers regular train rides to go with their seasonal holiday rides, adult beer, and wine rides, and even murder mystery dinners.

The company recently wrapped up its Christmas ride season, which included a hired elf in every car with a train stop to a make-shift Santa’s workshop. The event included free cocoa and cookies for kids and some adult beverages for the adults on the ride while Santa made his way through to talk to every family.

Kids could give their letters directly to Santa, take photos or mail them at the “workshop.”

“I pay real close attention to people’s feedback and what the guest is asking for and trying to deliver,” Peterson said. “We have three really big seasons, including Halloween and Easter.”

There are preliminary plans for Valentine’s Day weekend. Peterson mentions the Easter rides will run the first three weekends in April. An Easter bunny will go from car to car visiting with kids while other employees give out candy. They also plan for two age-group Easter egg hunts on their five-acre lawn near their main office.

Other featured experiences include the two-and-a-half-hour wine or beer rides, each featuring eight different tasting options.

So, whether you want to go with your family or friends, ride a train, ride the railbikes, or even go during a holiday or maybe a regular day, River Fox Train staff are always thinking of different ways to dress up their rides.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

TV broadcasting in the trains of the Moscow Metro

  • News & Events
  • Press release

Tomsk, Russia, January 23, 2020. The Elecard company took part in the large-scale project on content preparation and broadcasting of 12 channels in the Moscow underground trains.

The Moscow Metro is the backbone of the Moscow transport system. It consists of 15 lines and 269 stations, on which more than 12 thousand trains are passed daily. There are 6200 video screens installed in the subway cars, which broadcast TV channels, information videos, and commercials. The monitors are designed for a large audience: more than 7 million people use the metro every day.

Elecard, SoftLab-NSK, and Stream Labs developed and implemented the hardware and software complex for preparation, broadcasting, and monitoring of TV channels in metro trains of 12 lines. This solution is based on the transcoder Elecard CodecWorks and high-density servers. CodecWorks supports H.265/HEVC, which is especially important in this project, as the communication bandwidth in the rolling stock is limited. HEVC allows broadcasting video of higher quality due to a higher degree of compression, as opposed to the AVC format. The solution guarantees stable broadcasting, as it includes redundancy of all system components. If an error occurs, the schema will automatically switch to the reserve source, and viewers will not notice a failure.

The Stream Labs provided the solution for the head-end station monitoring. The technologies of the SoftLab-NSK were used to implement the playout system. The solution supports targeted advertising adjusted for the content availability and duration. A playlist with a specific set of informational videos and commercials is prepared for each subway line. Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff at Hillsboro home

HILLSBORO Ore. (KPTV) - A man is in custody after a standoff at a home in Hillsboro early Friday morning.

Elijah Duane Figure, 31, was arrested after a standoff on two counts of a felon in possession of a gun, possession of fentanyl, and a warrant for felony probation violation for unlawful use of a car.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, police tried to serve a warrant to Figure at Southeast 7th and Washington Street. They got word around 4 a.m.

Figure, the only person in the house, blocked himself inside.

A SWAT team composed of Hillsboro, WCSO, Beaverton and Tualatin police responded and began communicating with the suspect.

We just saw SWAT escort a man out of the house. https://t.co/7KMZXBvTSJ — Drew Reeves (@DrewReevesTV) April 12, 2024

Just after 9 a.m., the sheriff’s office said Figure was taken into custody.

The MAX Blue Line service was disrupted due to the incident and shuttle buses will serve between Washington/Southeast 12th Avenue and Hatfield Government Center. People should expect delays.
