The 10 Best Bollywood Travel Movies to Spark Your Wanderlust

India - Bollywood

Last Updated on: 19th June 2023, 06:40 pm

I love the idea of watching a Bollywood travel movie, but I don’t know where to start!

After Bride & Prejudice  (and its luscious scenes from Goa and London) I’m at a loss for where to go next! (And does that move even count as Bollywood)?

So I asked Mayuri from Canada Crossroads , an Indian-Canadian travel expert, to help point me in the right direction! These are her recommendations for the best Bollywood travel movies.

Can’t read now? Pin for later!

The Best Bollywood Travel Films

Growing up Bollywood movies were my jam.

Full of fiction, yet stunning cinematography from the Swiss Alps to streets in London and night lights in New York, these best travel movies Bollywood editions to inspire wanderlust!

Bollywood films are long, typically 2 to 3 hours, and are filled with romance, dramatic locations, and scenery.

They are a perfect dose of travel and entertainment from the comfort of your living room!

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a beautiful story about three friends  Kabir (Abhay Deol), Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), and Imraan (Farhan Akhtar), who head out on a ‘bachelor’ trip before Kabir gets married.

The movie features stunning locations in Spain: Barcelona, Costa Brava, Seville Bunol, and more.

The movie has comedy, drama, wanderlust-ing moments, and a message to live in the moment, rather than running after life goals (where Arjun wants to retire at 40).

The trip turns into an opportunity to mend fences, heal wounds, fall in love with life, and combat their worst fears.

The characters travel from Barcelona to Seville, Buñol, and various parts in Andalucia, road tripping.

The movie showcases La Tomatina Festival, bullfighting, tapas hopping, and a Bollywood version of flamenco!

Watch the trailer:

This is the Indian Queen, based on the movie’s main protagonist, Rani.

Rani literally means Queen, in Hindi. Rani (portrayed by Kangana Ranaut) decides to venture on her honeymoon alone after her fiance calls off the wedding.

Rani explores Paris, followed by Amsterdam on her solo travel journey.

She lived a sheltered life in Delhi, and the movie captures her naive side – from ‘almost’ getting her bag stolen, eating nonvegetarian food, being nervous in a co-ed/mixed hostel to meeting a friend in the Red Light District in Amsterdam.

The movie is filled with light comedy scenes, yet it opens up the difficulties of new travels, solo travels, and culture shock.

Watch the Trailer:

Rang de Basanti

A movie that reminds me so much of my time in New Delhi, where I studied history at the university – the vibrant college life and a passion to make a difference.

The movie is based on six college friends, whose life completely changes when a British documentary maker, Sue, approaches them to make a movie, based on her grandfather’s diary, highlighting the story of Indian revolutionaries.

Her grandfather served in the British Indian Army, and in the movie, she inspires them to rebel for a good cause, when Flight Lieutenant Ajay Rathod dies in an unfortunate flight mishap.

The movie highlights various parts of Delhi, including a road trip to Rajasthan; more than the locations the movie celebrates the free-spiritedness of the 6 young people, and their emotional and mental process turns them into rebels for a cause.

Watch the Trailer:

Chennai Express

A movie by Indian superstar Shahrukh Khan with Deepika Padukone, Chennai Express showcases the best scenes from southern India.

Chennai Express is a love story between a southern belle, whose father is a gangster and an average Delhi boy.

This movie is not one of Shahrukh Khan’s best, but the locations in the south along with the train journeys give you a sneak peek into the travels in this part of India.

It is a comedy-drama, filled with tons of dance and music!

The foot-tapping dance number, ‘Kashmir Tu, Main Kanyakumari,’ has been extensively shot at the Munnar Tea Plantation in Kerala, bringing it to the travel limelight.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

A love story, a story of friendships, and a story of a wanderer, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani  is a wanderlust movie, coupled with a relationship twist, the loneliness associated with travel, and finally settling down in life (in a ‘normal’ definition).

Although I do not believe in the traditional definition of “settling down”, where you drop your travels and live a routine, average life, the film beautifully brings out Bunny’s (the main protagonist Ranbir Kapoor ) zest for travel.

His room is filled with wanderlust from posters on the wall, a travel journal, and his passion for photography. He goes on to become a successful travel creator globetrotting the world.

After a few years, he misses his friends and his love Naina (Deepika Padukone), and returns to make amends.

The movie showcases amazing scenes from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan (in India), and Paris.

Highway , directed by Imtiaz Ali, is one of the most stunningly shot Bollywood travel movies in India.

The movie stars Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, who road trips in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent.

Highway throws the spotlight to northern India’s rugged, untouched beauty.

While London, Paris, and New York are still popular bucket list destinations, this movie adds a few more Indian gems to that list.

The movie captures the beauty of landscapes in Spiti (Himachal Pradesh), Aru Valley (Jammu and Kashmir), and various locations in Punjab.

The road trip is one of self-discovery for the female lead, who led a lavish style prior to the journey and discovers freedom after being kidnapped and trapped.

Dil Chahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai is a story of 3 best friends Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan), and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna), and their growing relationship and discovery of life after University/college studies.

The movie is shot in India and Australia. It showcases carefree moments in Goa (India) and travels to Australia where Akash immigrates after a fallout with his friends.

Dil Chahta Hai showcases the love and relationships of various characters and their perusal of the same.

Happy Ending

Happy Ending is a movie about Yudi (Saif Ali Khan), who is suffering from writer’s block.  He embarks on a journey in search of inspiration for his next story and ends up falling in love with a best-selling author who doesn’t believe in love.

The movie was entirely shot in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

The song “Tu Mere Jaisa” from the movie showcases the romantic side of the beautiful city of San Francisco from the views of the stunning Bay area, crooked street and winding streets, including Palace of Fine Arts, Ghirardelli Square, Golden Gate Bridge, and downtown area.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a romantic comedy set in Las Vegas, Nevada. The story revolves around Rahul, who has lost his job and ends up befriending a free-spirited hairstylist – Riana.

They have a crazy night, Vegas-style,  get married, become friends whilst waiting for an annulment, and travel to India for a much-needed break.

The movie captures the beauty of Las Vegas at night, its architectural marvels and things to do, outside of gambling!

Namastey London

Namastey London, as the name suggests, is centered around London, so you can expect tons of beautiful scenes from the city. The movie is based on a true story.

It depicts the clash of cultures when an Indian farmer marries a girl from London and highlights their different lifestyles and perspectives.

5 Things to Pack for Your Trip to India

Greece - Crete - Stephanie Luggage

The   Lonely Planet India   guidebook. It can be kind of a pain to find the major guidebooks once you land, or you’ll find them overpriced. I always like to pick mine up ahead of time.

An Unlocked  Cell Phone   so that you can use a local sim card while here to help navigate public transportation and when you’re on the road.

Backup Charging Bank  for your cell phone since you’ll be using it as a camera, GPS system, and general travel genie.

A Camera  since India is super photogenic. I use a mix of my  Nikon D810  and my   Samsung8  smartphone these days.

A Great Day Bag   so you can carry what you need with you (like your camera, snacks, water, sunscreen, cash, etc).

My current favorite is the  Pacsafe Citysafe , which is especially great for India because it has many anti-theft features designed to deter pickpockets.

Don’t Forget About Travel Insurance!

Before you leave for India make sure you have a valid  Travel  Insurance Policy  because accidents happen on the road.

I pay for  World Nomads,  and I happily recommend them. It’s especially important to get travel insurance if you’ll be hanging out in cities like New Dehli and Mumbai where tourists can easily become the targets of pickpockets.

I have been a paying customer of  World Nomads  for travel insurance for three years, and I happily recommend them.  If you get sick, injured, or have your stuff stolen, you’ll be happy to have the ability to pay for your medical bills or replace what’s stolen or broken.

15 Bollywood Movies That Inspired Travel

15 Bollywood Movies That Inspired Travel

Bollywood movies have always been our perfect escape from the mundane daily routine! The three hours that we spend in the air-conditioned confines of a theatre strangely liberate us and transport us into a world of glamour, fantasy and entertainment. A joy that can perhaps only be matched to packing your bags and setting off to explore new destinations that transport you to a world of leisure, relaxation and new experiences!

Well, Bollywood movies do more than just entertain! How many times have you seen movies and not been enthralled by the enchanting locations and picture-perfect landscapes that they are shot in? Sometimes, it’s not the story, not even the actors or the entertainment on the screen that we find ourselves falling in love with but the beautiful locales and destinations that we dream of travelling to, at least once in our lifetime.

Here is a list of 15 Bollywood movies that will surely inspire and encourage you to travel, explore and celebrate life at the destinations, they have been filmed in:

1. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Dil Chahta Hai

A movie that set benchmarks and inspired a whole new generation to travel to Goa! Anyone who watched this incredible movie released in 2001, wanted to pack their bags and head off for a road trip to Goa with their friends. This destination, with its superb beaches, palm-fringed coastlines, heavenly Goan cuisine, friendly locals, iconic churches and relaxed beach towns became the favourite spot for youngsters and continues to remain so, even today. Along with Goa, the movie also featured the beautiful city of Sydney, Australia and probably gave many of us their very first glimpse of the Sydney Opera House and the fascinating ‘Opera’ performance. This beautifully shot movie, not only featured some iconic scenes of Goa and Sydney but also explored the beautiful relation of friendship! Also, who can forget that iconic pose of Akash, Sameer and Sid at Chapora Fort?

2. Hum Tum (2004)

Hum Tum

‘Yeh Zindagi Bahot Lambi Hai Aur Hamare Pass Waqt Bahot Kam’! A dialogue from the movie, Hum Tum that Karan (Saif Ali Khan) uses to assure Rhea (Rani Mukherjee) that they will definitely cross paths in their lifetime. If you think about it, this dialogue could also be your inspiration to travel! This movie travels along with its characters to the amazing destinations of Amsterdam, USA, Paris, Delhi and Mumbai. The characters keep meeting at different intervals in their lives and their interactions further spark off their unique chemistry and shape their story. In the very first meeting, they travel around the wonderful city of Amsterdam. Their next meeting happens in Delhi where they develop an amicable friendship. Paris proves to be a turning point for them as they discover each other better and form a healthy bond. In Mumbai, they finally realize their love for each other and every time the city they are in, plays an important role in defining or developing their relationship. This wonderful movie, inspired from the Hollywood film, ‘When Harry Met Sally’ is definitely watch-worthy and one that will urge you to travel to Paris & Amsterdam!

3. Rang De Basanti (2006)

Rang De Basanti

This movie was an awakening in itself! A revolutionary concept that highlighted patriotism, sacrifice, history and politics, in a whole new light. Apart from the brilliant performances and riveting storyline, the movie is also remembered for its honest and sublime portrayal of Delhi and Punjab. The film is primarily set in Delhi with all its characters belonging to the esteemed Delhi University.  All of us wanted to be part of DJ and his gang, as they rode off into the sunset on their bikes and gave heartfelt tributes at the India Gate while taking a victory lap around it! Who could ever forget their unique hideout where they discussed life and swayed to the beat of ‘Masti ki Paathshala’? This famed location was the ‘Nahargarh Fort’ in Jaipur, where the gang enjoyed the occasional free fall into the lake below. Punjab was prominently picturised in the movie with stunning glimpses of the Golden Temple, the Hola Mohalla festival of Anandpur Sahib and the legendary Durga Sarai Fort of Ludhiana, which even came to be known as the ‘RDB (Rang De Basanti) Fort’.

4. Jab We Met (2007)

Jab We Met

Train journeys have never been this interesting! This movie traces the path of its two main characters, Geet & Aditya, who meet on a train in Mumbai and then embark on a journey that changes their lives forever. After an epic introduction in Mumbai, they make pit-stops at Ratlam, Kota, Bhatinda, Manali and Shimla, each time encountering amusing situations that leave us in splits. As they go about these small cities and towns, they travel by different vehicles such as bus, rickshaw, truck, cycle, jeep etc. and they make you realize the sheer fun and excitement you can experience while travelling on road. The movie also introduced us to the amazing ‘Rohtang Pass’! The song, ‘Ye Ishq Hay’ was shot in the snowy landscapes of Rohtang Pass with white icy walls on either side. The song also featured the ‘Naggar Castle’, a popular tourist spot in the Kullu district. So, grab the Geet’s and Aditya’s in your life and embark on an epic journey right away…

5. Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Love Aaj Kal

Love sure travelled a lot of places in this one! The quirky romantic dramedy (drama-comedy) takes you on a whirlwind ride through London, Delhi, Kolkata, Punjab and even, San Francisco. The movie portrays its lead actors grappling with modern day commitment issues as they keep travelling and living far away from each other for the most part of the movie. It also has another flashback storyline which takes you to the villages of Punjab, the streets of Purani Dilli and gives you a glimpse of Kolkata. The modern-day characters fall in love with each other at London but amicably break up when careers take priority over everything else. One moves to Delhi while the other eventually move to San Francisco, but their connection remains strong as ever! With beautiful locales of London, charming streets of Delhi and the glorious sights of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, this movie definitely gives some serious travel goals to explore the world.

6. 3 Idiots (2009)

3 Idiots

Which pristine location comes to mind when you think of 3 Idiots? That’s right! The one & only, Leh Ladakh. This movie played an important role in popularizing the tourism of Leh Ladakh. The final climax of the movie, where Pia (Kareena Kapoor) finally meets Rancho (Aamir Khan) takes place on the banks of the Pangong Lake – a stunning Himalayan Lake that stretches between the expanses of two countries, India and China. The lake is well-known for its ever-changing shades of vibrant blue waters and the surrounding scenic landscapes that result in some unbelievable photographs. The movie made Pangong Lake so famous that most of the local eateries, small restaurants, hotels, lodges, camp stay along the banks are named after the movie title ‘3 Idiots’. The lake also features movie memorabilia where travellers can pose and get their pictures clicked, for e.g. the eco-friendly yellow scooter or the funny chair from the popular song, ‘Aal is Well’. Some scenes from the movie were also shot in Druk White Lotus School which is also popularly known as the ‘Rancho School’ now!

7. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

3 friends, 1 trip, 1 EPIC journey! This movie about 3 friends going on a bachelor trip, strengthening their friendship along the way and gradually overcoming their fears, introduced us to the stunning country of Spain. Their journey from Barcelona to Costa Brava to Buñol en route Seville and finally to Pamplona featured some of the best locations and scenic landscapes, seen in recent times. Their adventures of deep-sea diving, skydiving and the exhilarating ‘Bull Run’ and ‘ La Tomatina’ festival gave travellers some serious adventure goals to experience in Spain. ‘Seize the day my friend! Pehle Is Din Ko Poori Tarah Jiyo, Phir Chalis Ke Bare Mein Sochna’. One of the many inspiring dialogues from this movie perfectly described the need to live life to the fullest every day! 8. Barfi (2012)

Barfi

This movie is like a beautiful song that plays smoothly and makes a place in your heart with its stellar performances and breathtaking visuals! Barfi is a deaf and mute boy whose life is set in the picturesque hill station of Darjeeling. The mist-clad mountains, quaint landscapes, lush tea estates, emerald green forests, fenced pathways and charming villages play an important role in narrating the coming-of-age story of Barfi. The movie later takes place in Kolkata and showcases the colonial charm of the city along with the mature nuances that develop in Barfi’s character. The movie presents the hill station of Darjeeling in the best way possible as it features some of the most famous landmarks of the town - the Clock Tower, Glenary's Cafe and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. A treat for the eyes with its stunning locations and a treat for the heart with its touching story, Barfi is definitely a journey worth experiencing!

9. Chennai Express (2013)

Chennai Express

‘Kashmir Main…Tu Kanyakumari!’ North meets South in this quirky movie that takes you on an epic journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. On this amazing train journey, you get a chance to witness the breathtaking Dudhsagar Falls of Goa and the rolling lush green tea estates of Munnar. The movie also gives us a glimpse of the picturesque Devikulam hill station in Kerala, Pollachi town in Coimbatore and the Vattamalai Murugan Temple in Tamil Nadu, where Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) carries Meenamma (Deepika Padukone) up a long flight of stairs. The famous Pamban Bridge is also featured in the movie, which is India’s first sea bridge that connects the town of Rameshwaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. The movie is what you would call a perfect ‘Bollywood Masala’ movie with action, adventure, drama, romance, music, entertainment and makes for a fun-filled 3-hour cinematic ride where you get to experience the best of South Indian landscapes! If you ever needed a reason to visit the beautiful region of South India, then this is it…

10. Highway (2014)

Highway

The movie ‘Highway’ released a couple of years ago and stood out from mainstream cinema due to a lot of reasons. The story of Veera and Bhati is fondly remembered today for its unconventional story, ground-breaking performances from the lead actors, but most importantly for its picturizations of the beautiful locales of Kashmir and Himachal. The movie featured beautiful locales of Pahalgam, Aru Valley, Spiti and many such hidden gems situated around the hilly regions of the North. Highway would not have been the movie we know today, if not for the snow-clad mountains, the hills and valleys of Pahalgam, the wide highways of the North, the trundling noisy trucks, the ever-flowing icy-cold rivers and the lush greenery of the beautiful Aru valley, which had a story to tell of its own. When was the last time we escaped from the hum-drum of our city life to just sit back, relax and take in the natural beauty around us? Too long… isn’t it? It’s time now to kick off all our worries and take a journey through mountains like ‘Veera’ from Highway…

11. Queen (2014)

Queen

This movie redefined solo travel and gave many solo women travellers, the much-needed boost they were waiting for! ‘Queen’ showed us that it is okay to travel solo and how your experiences can build you as a better person while you discover yourself. Queen narrates the story of Rani (beautifully portrayed by Kangna Ranaut) who is abandoned by her fiancée, a day before the wedding; however, instead of wallowing in self-pity, she takes the bold decision of going on her honeymoon trip alone. She travels to Paris & Amsterdam and as she falls in love with these glorious cities, she also learns to fall in love with herself! The same ‘Eiffel Tower’ that scares her at first and brings about unsavoury memories, later enchants her and overwhelms her, as she admires its splendid spectacle by night. Taking us through the beautiful lanes of Paris, Amsterdam and even Delhi, this movie taught us that sometimes the journeys we take by ourselves are some of the best experiences of our lives.

12. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2014)

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Admit it! You watch this movie every time it comes on TV and you probably even know the dialogues by heart, as you mime them along with Naina and Bunny. Such is the beautiful charm and nostalgia of this wonderful movie that it brings along a breath of fresh (mountain) air, very much like the snowy hill stations featured in the movie. The first half of the movie took us through breathtaking landscapes of Gulmarg, Kashmir (portrayed as Manali in the movie) and urged the traveller in us to go hiking and trekking through the snowy hills of the Himalayas. The second half charmed us with royal palaces, magnificent forts of Rajasthan and managed to give us some serious destination wedding goals. The movie also inspired many of us to take up travel journalism and live a wanderlust life like Bunny! Capturing Srinagar, Gulmarg, Manali, Rajasthan and France like never before with an engaging storyline and amazing actor line-up, ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ is an absolute feel-good movie that inspires us to catch up with long-lost school buddies and just travel…

13. PK (2014)

PK

Sure enough, the movie scores brownie points for Aamir Khan who perfectly portrayed an alien trying to make his way back home; but what we also loved about the movie is the picture-perfect city of Bruges, Belgium which served as the setting for a beautiful love story between the characters of Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput. PK created a milestone as it proved to be the first Bollywood movie that was shot here! The splendid canals, beautiful landscapes, colonial buildings and cobbled streets, made us fall in love with this city instantly. We even imagined cycling through the charming streets of Bruges, as we wished for our own love story to blossom in these picturesque landscapes. The movie also took us through the lanes and by-lanes of Delhi featuring some very popular and interesting sights such as Agrasen ki Baoli, Chandi Chowk, Connaught Place etc. The first few scenes of the movie, where PK (Aamir Khan) lands on Earth and begins exploring the place, has been filmed in the colourful and rustic town of Mandawa. A gem of a location that beautifully showcases the rich culture of Rajasthan, Mandawa is slowly becoming a popular tourist destination.

14. Tamasha (2015)

undefined

What happens in Corsica, stays in Corsica! This movie showcased the picture-perfect landscapes of Corsica and India fell in love! The beautiful locations and mesmerizing views were enough to make this beautiful island in France, a part of our travel list. We couldn’t believe an island could be so perfect; turquoise blue waters, glittering bays, stunning landscapes, lush greenery, craggy peaks but most of all, a unique culture bursting with local flavour and medieval charm. It seemed like the perfect getaway for the main characters of the movie and it seemed like the perfect vacation spot for everyone who watched this movie! The movie also featured the cultural hotspot of Delhi, Hauz Khas village which was featured in a heartfelt song. Interestingly enough, the female lead character’s inspiration to visit Corsica came from the famous comic book, Asterix in Corsica. Now, it’s time to make ‘Tamasha’ your inspiration and visit the breath-taking island of Corsica!

15. Piku (2015)

Piku

Piku touched hearts, in a way which we did not know was possible! It explored a turbulent yet beautiful father-daughter relationship set against the backdrop of modern, fast-paced Delhi and the quaint yet beautiful, Kolkata city. Rarely has a movie ticked all the right boxes when it comes to an engaging story, great chemistry between its actors and beautiful picturizations which slowly transcend into the story and become the soul of the movie. The road trip from Delhi to Kolkata tests the patience of the lead characters and yet manages to bring them together, by the end of the journey. The pit-stop in between at Varanasi not only explores the quiet charm of the spiritual city but also serves as the perfect setting for a heart-to-heart chat between the lead characters. Finally, the city of Kolkata, replete with its old world colonial charm manages to take our breath away and we have Piku, the movie, to thank us for that!

With so many amazing destinations and movie inspirations that encourage us to travel, it is difficult to sit still and settle down in one place! Someone has rightly said, “ If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet. ” If you are waiting for that one day when you can set off to explore the world, these Bollywood movies will surely give you the push that you need to travel and explore the world!

Rasika Wakankar

Years of writing school essays, descriptive theories for college papers and elaborate recipes for my hotel management practicals, made me realize one thing - I did not mind the writing, in fact, I loved it! Probably the reason why my blogs tend to exceed the word limit, as I pour my heart out and just keep on doing what I love to do... Write! There... I exceeded my word limit yet again! So, in 1 line only... An amateur blogger and enthusiastic traveller with dreams of writing my own book someday :)

Are you looking for some good Bollywood travel movies to fuel your wanderlust? You are in the right place. This post has some amazing suggestions for epic Bollywood movies about travel.

Do you feel inspired to travel to any country or city or location after seeing it in a movie? It happens to me all the time. Travel movies fuel my wanderlust like nothing.

More often than not, I fall in love with the picture-perfect locales and gorgeous destinations shown in the movies more than the storyline or actors. Well, travel movies satiate a traveler in me.

Lately, traveling has become a vital part of our lifestyle. We now understand the importance of investing in experiences over materialistic things. Resultantly, travel has become an important theme for Bollywood filmmakers too.

We already have an ultimate list of the best travel movies of all time . But, this list doesn’t include Bollywood movies. So, I thought of curating a list of the most loved travel movies in Bollywood for all those Bollywood fans.

So, what are we waiting for? Let’s travel virtually with Bollywood. Are you wondering if the language will be a barrier while watching these Hindi movies on travel? But when do emotions and wanderlust need a language?

So just hit play!

Best Bollywood Travel Movies of All Time

#1 zindagi na milegi dobara (2011).

This one’s my all-time favorite. I’ve watched it like 10 times or more (actually I’ve lost count). I never get tired of it. It’s that amazing. So we will have to begin our list of Best Indian travel movies with this film.

3 best friends. 1 EPIC road trip. All things awesome!

ZNMD is about three friends who set on a bachelor’s trip to Spain (which they had planned during their college) to overcome their fears. They inspire the viewers to plan a Spanish vacation as they road-tripped from Barcelona to Costa Brava to Seville to Buñol to Pamplona enjoying the famous La Tomatina Festival and taking on adventures like deep-sea diving, skydiving, and a bull run along the way.

I added the ultimate road trip through Spain to my Europe bucket list before even the movie was finished. The movie has all the ingredients to revive the traveler in you. This is one of the inviting Bollywood road trip movies that will want you to pack your bags and head off.

There are a few movies that make you fall in love with your life, and ZNMD is one of those!

tourist movie in hindi

#2 Queen (2013)

Queen inspires all the girls out there to drop their fears, take a call, and travel solo at least once in their lifetime. The movie is about a girl who embarks on a solo trip to Paris which was supposed to be her honeymoon trip.

Rani, the main protagonist falls in love with herself while wandering around the gorgeous streets of Paris and Amsterdam . The movie beautifully redefined the concept of solo travel. The journeys we take by ourselves are the journeys we take into ourselves, indeed.

tourist movie in hindi

#3 Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

This is the movie that I watched with my best friends and yes we were living the movie while watching it. This for sure remains one of the best travel movies in Bollywood. Any youngster who watches this movie can’t help but crave to take a road trip to Goa with friends. With a beautiful storyline of how three friends discover the beauty of their friendship and life while on a trip to Goa, the movie set a record.

Dil Chahta Hai features quaint beach towns, golden-sand beaches, palm-fringed coastlines, back-country spice farms, quintessential churches and forts, and mouth-watering Goa Cuisine. This movie has contributed a lot to tourism in Goa. The movie also showcases the iconic city of Sydney, Australia .

tourist movie in hindi

#4 Swades (2004)

All the NRI (Non-Resident Indians) would be able to relate to the movie Swades which will make them teary-eyed. It is a movie about an NRI played by Shahrukh Khan, who works in NASA and comes to India to discover his roots. He wants to take his nanny to the US along with him.

He takes on the journey on a luxury caravan that he rides and takes through rustic rural India and shows the warmth of people. It showcases the beautiful and vibrant culture of India and the value system that we believe in.

This movie would surely be nostalgic for many living far away from their homeland and remaining in the dilemma of returning back.

tourist movie in hindi

#5 Highway (2014)

Imtiaz Ali never fails to charm his viewers. The Highway is a film about a girl who’s kidnapped and put in a truck that travels to Kashmir via Delhi , Punjab , Haryana , Rajasthan , and Himachal Pradesh . The movie beautifully brings out the beauty of freedom through this Bollywood road trip movie.

The snow-clad mountains, crystal-clear rivers, lush green landscape, tiny hamlets of Pahalgam , Aru Valley , Spiti , and the highways of North India – the movie captures the essence of travel in India.

tourist movie in hindi

#6 Tamasha (2015)

Another gem from Imtiaz Ali. Tamasha transports you to the beautiful French island of Corsica .

From Turquoise blue waters and stunning bays, to rugged peaks, gorgeous landscapes, medieval charm, and everything in between, the movie captures Corsica in a way that this breathtaking island becomes your bucket list destination.

tourist movie in hindi

#7 Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007)

Six honeymooning couples set on an eventful road trip from Mumbai to Goa on a tourist bus and discover secrets about their significant others along the journey that reshapes and redefines their relationship with each other.

The trip changed their lives forever.

tourist movie in hindi

#8 Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

DDLJ, a directorial debut by Aditya Chopra, made me fall in love with the Swiss Alps and has been a dream destination that I wish to visit with my husband.

The story revolves around the love story of a boy and girl, both NRI living in London who meet on a vacation in Europe with their friends. They both travel on the Eurostar with their friends to exotic locations of Zweissimen , Gstaad , Jungfrau , and Interlaken .

This is one film that even lists 1001 movies that you must watch before you die. Can you believe the movie ran in a theater in Maharashtra for more than 20 years?

So how can this movie not be a part of the Best Bollywood travel movies?

tourist movie in hindi

#9 Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

This movie made me fall in love with cruise trips. Ayesha plans a 10-day cruise sailing through Turkey , Tunisia , Egypt , Spain , Italy , and France to celebrate her parent’s anniversary and the trip connects the dysfunctional family through a series of experiences.

It’s so exciting to see the characters exploring a new country every day! Being on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean can be insanely gorgeous and intensely cathartic. The visuals are inspiring and capture the essence of each country – the vibe and the culture.

tourist movie in hindi

#10 Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

The movie charms its viewers with the adorable characters of Naina and Bunny, the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir , and the royal vibe of Rajasthan .

The first half of the movie showcases the characters enjoying hiking the snow-covered Himalayas and the second half takes you through the magnificent forts and palaces of Rajasthan.

It gives some serious destination wedding goals. They can be so much fun. The movie has that feel-good factor. It beautifully motivates people to take time to travel and spend time with friends.

These Hindi movies on travel are here to give you some serious travel goals.

tourist movie in hindi

#11 Jab We Met (2007)

This is another movie I never get tired of watching. With an engaging storyline, incredible actors, and a mind-boggling and life-changing journey through various cities and towns ( Ratlam , Kota , Bhatinda , Manali , and Shimla ) in India by different modes like a train, bus, rickshaw, cycle, jeep, and even truck, Jab We Met is a delight for eyes as well as the soul.

I took a trip to Rohtang Pass after seeing the snowy landscapes and a narrow road with snowy walls on either side of Rohtang Pass in Jab We Met. Such road trip movies in Bollywood do inspire you to add them to your bucket list. The two protagonists, Geet and Aditya look so adorable together that you can’t get enough of them.

I realized that trips that don’t have a plan and are spontaneous can be so much fun(risky though but hey life’s all about taking risks). Sometimes, it’s good to have no plan 🙂

tourist movie in hindi

#12 Piku (2015)

With a tale of a complicated yet beautiful father-daughter relationship, Piku touches hearts. The movie is set in the capital city of India. The road trip from Delhi to Kolkata en route to the spiritual city of Varanasi is the soul of the movie.

The trip brings out the differences between the lead actors (father and daughter) eventually bonding them by the end of the journey.

The quaint charm of Varanasi and the old-world charm of Kolkata will tickle the traveler in you.

tourist movie in hindi

#13 Anjaana Anjaani (2010)

Anjaana Anjaani is an intriguing tale about two heartbroken people who met just when they were about to end their lives and decided to live life to the fullest before ending their lives. Together, they embark on a road trip from New York to Las Vegas .

tourist movie in hindi

#14 Road, Movie (2002)

It’s all about a road trip across India’s royal state of Rajasthan . Road, Movie features Rajasthan in its raw form and attracts backpackers and travelers across the world to embark on a soul-stirring journey across Rajasthan.

Road, Movie is a story of a boy Vishnu who journeys across Rajasthan to deliver an antique truck that belongs to his father to a local museum.

tourist movie in hindi

#15 Barfi (2012)

This coming-of-age movie is set in West Bengal’s picturesque hill station of Darjeeling . You are sure to be charmed by the heartfelt story and stunning locations as Barfi, the protagonist cycles through Darjeeling’s charming streets featuring rolling tea estates, lush green forests, and mist-covered peaks.

The Clock Tower, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, and Glenary’s Cafe are some of the most famous landmarks of Darjeeling featured in the movie. In the second half of the movie, the city of Joy – Kolkata and its colonial charm make your heart flutter.

tourist movie in hindi

#16 London Paris New York (2012)

It’s a tale of two characters and the world’s three iconic cities – London , Paris , and New York . The movie unfurls a love story between the two of them as they meet, separate, and reunite while traveling through these three cities.

The film didn’t do well but truly captures the beauty of the cities that invariably find a place on every traveler’s list.

tourist movie in hindi

#17 Chalo Dilli (2011)

Chalo Dilli is about two contrasting characters who travel together on a road trip from Mumbai to Delhi to explore the colors and cultures of India’s rural and urban towns.

tourist movie in hindi

#18 3 Idiots (2009)

3 Idiots played a vital role in making Leh Ladakh a popular destination. The climax of the movie features an unusually beautiful Himalayan lake – Pangong Tso that stretches between India and China. The lake instantly became a hot destination after the release of the movie. Otherwise, the offbeat location turned into one of the most touristy places in India. These are the after-effects of the best Indian travel movies.

The local eateries, restaurants, hotels, camps, and lodges mushroomed along the banks of the lake and amusingly most of them are named after the movie or its characters’ names.

Some of the parts of the movie are shot in Druk White Lotus School in Leh which is now also known as ‘Rancho School.’ Rancho is the name of the main protagonist in the movie.

tourist movie in hindi

#19 Chennai Express (2013)

This one’s epic as it takes you on an epic journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram . The characters travel via train and road from Mumbai to Rameshwaram stopping by stunning places along the way.

Featured in the movie are – the utterly beautiful Dudhsagar Falls in Goa , the rolling tea gardens of Munnar in Kerala , the little town of Pollachi in Coimbatore , Vattamalai Murugan Temple in Tamil Nadu , and the iconic Pamban Bridge (the first sea bridge in India that connects Rameshwaram on Pamban Island to mainland India).

The awe-inspiring landscapes of South India will urge you to travel to this beautiful part of India.

tourist movie in hindi

#20 Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)

It’s the story of a girl who loses her engagement ring on a trip, takes the help of a tour guide to search for the ring, and eventually falls for him.

The movie takes you through multiple locations in Europe – Budapest , Vienna , Amsterdam , Lisbon , Prague , and Frankfurt . You get to experience the culture of Punjab in India at the end of the film as the last few scenes are shot in the ancient town of Noor Mahal, Punjab .

tourist movie in hindi

#21 Hum Tum (2004)

In a light-hearted movie, Hum Tum travels to the amazing destinations of Delhi , Amsterdam , USA , Paris , and Mumbai as the two main characters, Karan and Rhea (unknowingly and unwantedly) bump into each other at different intervals in their lives.

I have been dying to visit Amsterdam since the time I watched Hum Tum. Doesn’t this happen to you when you watch Bollywood movies on travel?

tourist movie in hindi

#22 Jagga Jasoos (2017)

The film is about a curious boy who embarks on an expedition to search for his lost father and meets the love of his life along the journey.

The movie starts in a beautiful hill station in West Bengal, Darjeeling , and later on, lets you explore some of the most unexplored parts of South Africa and Morocco .

tourist movie in hindi

#23 Rang De Basanti (2006)

The movie is based on a rebellious concept that tastefully blends the elements of history, patriotism, sacrifice, and politics. It’s primarily set in Delhi but also features the famous attractions in Jaipur and Punjab .

Remember that song ‘Masti Ki Pathshala’ from the movie? It was shot at the baoli in Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur . The beautiful mustard fields of Punjab make your heart crave to run through those fields of yellow mustard flowers. The famous Golden Temple of Amritsar , the Hola Mohalla Festival of Anandpur Sahib, and the famed Durga Sarai Fort of Ludhiana make RDB a must-watch for the right dose of wanderlust.

tourist movie in hindi

#24 PK (2014)

Apart from the unusual tale of an alien stuck on the earth, what caught my attention was the picture book city of Bruges in Belgium which served as a perfect setting for the love story in the first half of the movie.

The gorgeous canals, charming cobbled streets, and medieval buildings made me fall in love with Bruges . Did you know PK is the first Bollywood movie shot in Bruges?

The movie also takes you through some of the most intriguing sites in Delhi like Agrasen ki Baoli , Chandni Chowk , Connaught Place , and the colorful countryside town of Rajasthan , Mandwa . You’ll get a taste of the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan.

tourist movie in hindi

#25 Fanaa (2006)

I loved Fanaa. It features the stunning heritage sites in Delhi and the other-worldly beauty of Kashmir . The movie beautifully captures the best of both destinations.

In the first half of the movie, you’ll see the main protagonists exploring the architectural wonders in Delhi – Red Fort, Qutub Minar , Humayun’s Tomb , India Gate , and Purana Qila .

The second half of the movie features the snow-clad Himalayas, chinar trees, and quaint wooden houses in Kashmir .

tourist movie in hindi

#26 Kaal (2005)

Kaal is a thriller movie that’s shot in one of the most famous national parks in India or rather the world – Jim Corbett National Park . You explore the exotic wildlife and forests in India from the comfort of your couch as the mystery unfolds.

tourist movie in hindi

#27 Love Aaj Kal (2009)

A pinch of romance, a dash of comedy, a sprinkle of drama, and a lot of places – Love Aaj Kal gracefully portrays the complications of long-distance relationships.

The story takes you on a jaunt through London , Delhi , Kolkata , Punjab , and San Francisco . With beautiful visuals from the quaint villages of Punjab , narrow streets of Old Delhi , colorful locales of London , the oldest neighborhoods of Kolkata , and a sight of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco , Love Aaj Kal pushes you to leave the comforts of home and explore the world.

Its sequel, Love Aaj Kal 2 perfectly showcases the beauty of the untouched and quaint village of Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh at the Indo-Tibetan border aka The Last Village of India .

This is what I love about Imitiaz Ali. His every movie takes you to bucket-list-worthy destinations with his characters and casts a spell of travel on its audience. His movies Breathe, Dream, and Live Travel.

tourist movie in hindi

#28 Lootera (2013)

Lootera is a story set in the ’50s. The daughter of an aristocrat falls in love with a visiting archeologist from West Bengal without knowing a secret his life holds. It’s shot in quaint and laid-back locations in India – Khajjiar , Dalhousie , and Manikpur, West Bengal .

The snow-clad mountains, colorful wooden houses, lush meadows, striking deodar forests, and pretty lakes – Khajjiar pulls you as you appreciate the beauty it holds with every scene.

tourist movie in hindi

#29 Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

The movie is an absolute treat with some of the world’s most amazing destinations it’s shot in – Istanbul , Mardin , Havana , Bangkok , Phuket , Delhi , and Dublin .

Ek Tha Tiger is a story of a RAW agent, Tiger who travels to Dublin to keep an eye on an Indian scientist suspected of leaking nuclear secrets with ISI where he meets the love of his life, Zoya, a spy from Pakistan.

A traveler in you will also love its sequel, Tiger Zinda Hai which features beautiful locations across five different countries – Abu Dhabi , Austria , Greece , Morocco , and India .

With exotic destinations charming viewers, Bollywood movies about travel are rising.

tourist movie in hindi

#30 English Vinglish (2012)

One of the last movies of my all-time favorite actress, Sridevi – English Vinglish is a heartfelt story of a woman named Shashi who’s made to feel insecure and inferior just because she doesn’t speak English by her husband and daughter.

The film touches your soul as Shashi sets on a transformational solo journey to the Big Apple (NYC) to attend the wedding of her sister’s daughter. You can enjoy iconic sights and attractions in New York from Central Park, and Times Square to Brooklyn Bridge, and Fifth Avenue. One of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, New York City makes her feel as if she belongs here.

The song Manhattan is so powerful that you end up planning a trip to New York before even the movie ends.

It’s a nice list of movies- however, you are missing on the important one and that’s Bombay to Goa. but the post was a decent read.

We are glad that you liked it. Oh yes, we missed the cult Bombay to Goa that probably started the trend of travel movies in Bollywood. Will include it in next update. Thanks for the suggestion.

My favorite is dil chahta hai..and swadesh…

I guess there’ll be no one who doesn’t like Dil Chahta Hai and Swadesh. Such amazing movies

It’s a nice list of movies- however, you missed one more movie and that’s “Karwaan” by Irfan khan.

Thanks Rajat. Glad that you liked the list. Yeah, Karwan is a nice movie. I am sure there would be many more great travel related movies.

18 Bollywood Movies That Will Inspire You To Travel

To travel is to live. Travelling is almost like a therapeutic exercise which heals us with the beauty and experiences of the unexplored world. We meet different people, interact with different cultures and the memories we carry back are just priceless.

Films act as a getaway from the tough realities of life. Those three hours spent in a dark theatre open your window to fantasies. And when those films have beautiful, picturesque locations, you just want to pack your bags and travel. After all, it isn’t always bad thing to get inspired by movies, eh?

Here’s a list of Bollywood films that will make you want to leave everything else and just travel:

1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

The film took us through a road trip in Spain. The lazy road travel, the breathtaking deep-sea-diving, the super-fun  Tomatina festival, and the liberating sky-fall were all just to die for. It makes you want to travel with your friends and discover your own self. In fact, this film has made Spain a popular travel destination for Indians.

tourist movie in hindi

2. Queen (2013)

This film takes the protagonist and our imagination to Paris and Amsterdam. She discovers her own identity and learns that you don’t necessarily need a partner to have fun in your life. She doesn’t let her honeymoon tickets go waste and decides to take the trip solo and this experience changes her life forever. She gains a new perspective about living life on her own terms.

tourist movie in hindi

3. Tamasha (2015)

Tamasha brought to life the beautiful city of Corsica for us Indians. The film showed the place so beautifully that each frame looked like a picture post card. It looked like a perfect getaway for the characters and felt like it would be perfect for us as well. The local flavour was just enough to make Corsica your dream destination, a place where nobody would know you and you won’t know anybody either.

tourist movie in hindi

4. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

This film has set travel goals for a whole generation. While the movie is remembered for a whole lot of other things, the idea of friends travelling to just chill on the beaches of Goa is stuff vacation goals are made of! Such was the influence of the movie, Goa became the national holiday spot for the young generation and still remains so.

tourist movie in hindi

5. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

This is where the travel craze started. Raj and Simran meet on a Euro trip, fall in love and after a short trip to the mustard fields of Punjab, live happily ever after. The landscapes of Europe are lavish, and the film captures that beautifully. Even the second half of the film, which is shot in Punjab, has inspired a generation to get a picture clicked in the mustard fields.

tourist movie in hindi

6. Finding Fanny (2014)

Finding Fanny showed Goa like no other film. There were no rave parties in this one, instead it showed lesser known outskirts of the state. The virgin locations in the film became popular overnight. If you’re planning a peaceful trip to the state, this film will totally inspire you.

tourist movie in hindi

7. Highway (2014)

This film was a journey that you didn’t want to end. The theatre felt like a window seat of a vehicle and you just didn’t want the vehicle to stop. A bride-to-be is kidnapped by a local goon who takes her through roads she has never seen before. It captures the remote Sangla Valley in Himachal Pradesh and drives over to the Aru Valley and Chandanwari near Pahalgam. And it’s not just the scenic beauty of the mountains, the essence of the film is travel and is beautifully conveyed even in the plains of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab.

tourist movie in hindi

8. Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

This film was shot on a cruise ship which traveled through Turkey, Spain and Tunisia. The sequences on the cruise ship had beautiful ocean in the background and stunningly dressed people in the foreground. And you’re still looking for reasons to set off for a vacation?

tourist movie in hindi

9. Chennai Express (2013)

Chennai Express might be known for several other (not-so-flattering) reasons but the film was surely a visual treat. From the majestic Dudhsagar Falls in Goa to the lush hill town of Munnar in Kerala, each frame of the movie was a sight to behold in this film. The landscape shown in the film will surely make you want to be there in person.

10. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

Bordered by dense forests and sparkling in their white glory, Gulmarg’s snow-clad peaks are just breathtaking. Even though Gulmarg was passed off as Manali in the film, the film inspired bag-packers to leave everything aside and go on a trek with friends in this region. The film’s second half captures the beautiful palaces and monuments of Rajasthan. The theme wedding in Udaipur showed that Rajasthan is so much more than just deserts.

12 Films That Inspire You to Travel in India

India is a bustling metropolitan country filled with monuments, palaces, temples, lagoons, beaches and much more. The country is a kaleidoscope of color and culture, thanks to the diversity. This diversity and vividness is highlighted with the right screenplay and camera angle, in the ten movies described below. These movies were shot in India. It is not new for a hollywood or bollywood movie to be shot in special monuments, palaces and others.

However, these movies give more importance to the landscape, nature and beauty of the country. This list holds both movies, which are shot entirely on that destination and movies, which have a few scenes elaborating the beauty of the country.

1. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

NEW THIS WEEK

Opening dates are subject to change.

(B-) ABIGAIL In this over-the-top horror thriller, criminals kidnap a 12-year-old ballerina (Alisha Weir) in hopes of collecting a $50 million ransom. But the captors soon find they’re locked in an isolated mansion with not an ordinary girl, but a bloodthirsty vampire. Weir is riveting, but also quite funny. Also starring Melissa Barrera, Giancarlo Esposito, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton and Matthew Goode. R (for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, pervasive language and brief drug use). 109 mins. In wide release.

(A) CAROL DODA TOPLESS AT THE CONDOR Set against the backdrop of the 1964 Republican National Convention in San Francisco, this compelling documentary tells the story of the cocktail waitress who became America’s first topless dancer — and one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. R (for nudity/graphic nudity throughout, some sexual material, language and drug content). 100 mins. At the Angelika Dallas.

(B+) CHICKEN FOR LINDA In this uniquely styled and all-around delightful animated tale from France, a single mother feels guilty after unfairly punishing her daughter and sets out to make her a chicken with peppers — even though she doesn’t know how to cook. It’s an outside-the-box toon that’s constantly tickling audiences with unexpected ingredients. Not rated. 73 mins. At the Angelika Dallas.

HARD MILES A prison social worker (Matthew Modine) puts together a cycling team of teenage convicts for a grueling ride from Denver to the Grand Canyon. PG-13 (for strong language, thematic content, suggestive references and some teen drinking). 108 mins. In wide release.

(B) THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE In this spirited action-comedy flick from director Guy Ritchie, British authorities recruit a small group of soldiers to attack the Nazis deep behind enemy lines. As a whole, the movie hews to the standard men-on-a-mission formula, joining classics such as The Guns of Navarone and The Dirty Dozen in assembling a pack of highly skilled — if slightly disreputable — pros to attempt the impossible. Starring Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Eiza González, Babs Olusanmokun and Cary Elwes. R (for strong violence throughout and some language). 120 mins. In wide release.

REFUGE A soldier comes home from Afghanistan a changed man, possessed by a malevolent force. Starring Jason Flemyng, Raza Jaffrey and Johanna Harlin. Not rated. 91 mins. At the Angelika Plano.

(C+) SASQUATCH SUNSET Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg star in this adventure-comedy film about a family of Sasquatches embarking on an epic journey. With no dialogue, the film’s comedy relies on slapstick humor, flatulence and penis jokes, which can become tiresome. It’s a sometimes poignant, sometimes trying movie. R (for some sexual content, full nudity and bloody images). 89 mins. In wide release.

(B) SHAYDA A young Iranian mother (Zar Amir Ebrahimi) and her 6-year-old daughter seek refuge in an Australian women’s shelter. But when the woman’s estranged husband re-enters their lives, their path to freedom is put in jeopardy in this gripping yet tense suspense drama. In Persian and English, with subtitles. PG-13 (for thematic material involving domestic abuse, some violence and language). 117 mins. At the Angelika Plano.

SPY X FAMILY CODE: WHITE In this animated adventure-comedy flick from Japan, a couple try to keep their double lives as a spy and an assassin a secret. But their adopted daughter has telepathic abilities and knows all about it. PG-13 (for some violence, language and smoking). 110 mins. In wide release.

THE THREE MUSKETEERS - PART II: MILADY D’Artagnan (Francois Civil) must team up with Milady (Eva Green) to rescue Constance (Lyna Khoudri) from kidnappers, while an old secret threatens to shatter alliances. In French with subtitles. Not rated. 114 mins. At Galaxy Theatres Grandscape in The Colony.

VILLAINS INCORPORATED In this comedy, three low-level henchpeople (Mallory Everton, Jason Gray and Colin Mochrie) are left destitute after the death of their supervillain boss. Living in an abandoned grocery store, they set out to take over the world on their own. PG-13 (for violence and brief drug material). 102 mins. In wide release.

COMING NEXT WEEK

THE BEAST A woman (Léa Seydoux) continually falls in love with different incarnations of a man (George MacKay) in this sci-fi film set in a near-future world where artificial intelligence controls all facets of society and humans routinely erase their feelings.

BLOODLINE KILLER In this horror thriller, a woman (Shawnee Smith) tries to rebuild her life after the murder of her family by a deranged cousin. Also starring Taryn Manning, Drew Moerlein, Tyrese Gibson and Bruce Dern.

BOY KILLS WORLD Bill Skarsgård stars as Boy, who vows revenge after his family is murdered by the deranged matriarch (Famke Janssen) of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty. He trains in martial arts under a mysterious shaman (Yayan Ruhian) and begins his violent rampage on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents.

BREATHE In this thriller set in a world without enough oxygen for humans, a woman (Jennifer Hudson) living underground with her daughter (Quvenzhané Wallis) is approached by strangers who claim to know where to find her husband, whom she had presumed to be dead. But she soon learns they are a threat. Also starring Milla Jovovich and Common.

CASH OUT A professional thief (John Travolta) gets trapped in a bank when a heist with his brother goes awry, and the lead police negotiator (Kristin Davis) happens to be his former lover. Also starring Lukas Haas and Quavo.

CHALLENGERS Zendaya stars as a former tennis prodigy turned coach who’s trying to break her tennis champion husband (Mike Faist) out of a slump. Also starring Josh O’Connor.

CINDERELLA’S REVENGE After being pushed too far by her evil stepsisters and stepmother, Cinderella (Lauren Staerck) seeks vengeance with the help of her fairy godmother in this horror flick based on the classic fairytale. Also starring Natasha Henstridge and Stephanie Lodge.

REMEMBERING GENE WILDER This documentary pays tribute to the late actor.

UNSUNG HERO This faith-based drama tells the story of the real-life Smallbone family, who moved from Australia to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue musical careers. Starring Daisy Betts, Joel Smallbone, Kirrilee Berger and Jonathan Jackson.

WE GROWN NOW In this early 1990s-set drama, two young boys (Blake Cameron James and Gian Knight Ramirez) discover the joys and hardships of growing up in the sprawling Cabrini-Green public housing complex in Chicago.

CURRENT RELEASES

(B) ARCADIAN In this post-apocalyptic thriller, a father (Nicolas Cage) and his twin teenage sons (Maxwell Jenkins and Jaeden Martell) fight for their survival in a remote farmhouse. The lean screenplay doesn’t explain what happened or why monsters come out at night, and that can be frustrating. But even as the film sometimes struggles to find its footing, it’s capable of landing some knockout moments. R (for bloody images). 92 mins.

(B-) ARTHUR THE KING An adventure athlete (Mark Wahlberg) adopts a stray dog to accompany him on a 435-mile endurance race in this heartwarming film based on a true story. It’s fairly standard — and often treacly — dog fare, calling to mind other adventurous pups in TV and film like Lassie, Benji and Rin Tin Tin, but edged up with an adventure sports milieu and vibrant, handheld cinematography that gives the film a more adult, action-oriented look and feel. Also starring Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel and Ali Suliman. PG-13 (for some strong language). 90 mins.

(C) BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Kingsley Ben-Adir stars in this biographical drama about the reggae music icon. Ben-Adir lacks the physical dynamism and charismatic velocity of Marley, and the film too often feels like it’s going through the motions rather than striving for transcendence. PG-13 (for marijuana use and smoking throughout, some violence and brief strong language). 107 mins.

CAPITÁN AVISPA In this animated tale, the hero Capitán Avispa (voiced by Luis Fonsi) takes on an evil wasp and his henchmen. Also featuring the voices of Joy Huerta and Juanes. In Spanish with subtitles. Not rated. 88 mins.

(A) CIVIL WAR In Alex Garland’s virtuosic action-thriller set in a near-future America, journalists race to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel factions descend upon the White House. It’s an upsetting dystopian vision that leaves viewers shaken, effectively repeating the question that quelled the L.A. riots: Can we all get along? Starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Nick Offerman. R (for strong violent content, bloody/disturbing images, and language throughout). 109 mins.

CREW Three flight attendants from Mumbai face setbacks after embarking on a journey to pursue their dreams. In Hindi, with subtitles. Not rated. 131 mins.

(A) DUNE: PART TWO Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) takes up with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen in this spectacular feat of sci-fi filmmaking that marries immersive world-building with engrossing storytelling. Austin Butler is captivating as Paul’s dark counterpart, the murderous Feyd-Rautha, delivering a nearly reptilian performance. Also starring Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista and Christopher Walken. PG-13 (for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material and brief strong language). 166 mins.

EPIC TAILS In this animated film from France, a mouse and her feline friend engage in a series of adventures in ancient Greece, where their city is threatened by the sea god Poseidon. PG (for action and some rude humor). 95 mins.

EXHUMA In this horror thriller from South Korea, a renowned shaman (Kim Go-eun) and her protégé (Lee Do-hyun) are hired by a wealthy family to investigate a supernatural illness. In Korean, with subtitles. Not rated. 134 mins.

FAMILY STAR Vijay Deverakonda stars in this drama about a middle-class family from India. In Telugu, with subtitles. Not rated. 155 mins.

THE FIRST OMEN When a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the Catholic Church, she discovers a terrifying conspiracy that aims to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. Also starring Bill Nighy, Charles Dance and Sonia Braga. R (for violent content, grisly/disturbing images and brief graphic nudity). 119 mins.

(B-) GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE In this supernatural comedy, the Spengler family returns to New York City to team up with the original Ghostbusters. When an ancient artifact threatens to unleash a new ice age, they must spring into action. The film doesn’t mess with the franchise’s well-honed formula, carefully balancing its laughs and scares in a breezy manner that makes for pleasurable, if lightweight, viewing. Starring Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. PG-13 (for supernatural action/violence, language and suggestive references). 115 mins.

GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE The legendary creatures clash and take on a new threat in the latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise. Starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Dan Stevens. PG-13 (for creature violence and action). 115 mins.

(A) HOUSEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS A woman (Anamaria Marinca) who never aspired to be a mother finds herself raising her girlfriend’s two daughters in this film that won the Queer Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. It’s a compelling, compassionate portrait of a self-made, roughly blended queer family. In Macedonian with subtitles. R (for sexual content, language throughout and some teen drinking). 107 mins.

IMAGINARY In this horror flick from Blumhouse, a woman (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home and finds that Chauncey, the stuffed bear she left behind, is angry over being abandoned. PG-13 (for some violent content, drug material and language). 104 mins.

(B+) IMMACULATE Sydney Sweeney delivers a captivating performance in this enjoyable if uneven horror film about a virginal nun whose pregnancy inspires questions at an Italian convent. The film really takes off in the second half as it evolves into a taut survival thriller. R (for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language). 89 mins.

(B) KUNG FU PANDA 4 In this predictable but pleasant animated comedy sequel, Po (voiced by Jack Black) becomes the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace and must train a new Dragon Warrior. The humor in this edition doesn’t seem as broad as usual, with the mostly low-key laughs coming from amusing visual gags. Also featuring the voices of Viola Davis, Awkwafina, Dustin Hoffman and Bryan Cranston. PG (for martial arts action/mild violence, scary images and some mild rude humor). 94 mins.

(A) LA CHIMERA A young British archaeologist (Josh O’Connor) gets involved in an international network involving stolen Etruscan artifacts in this grubbily transcendent folk tale that serves up pure movie magic. Also starring Carol Duarte, Vincenzo Nemolato, Alba Rohrwacher and Isabella Rossellini. In Italian with subtitles. Not rated. 130 mins.

(A) LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL In this horror flick set in 1977, a struggling TV talk show host (David Dastmalchian) unwittingly unleashes evil into the nation’s living rooms during a live Halloween broadcast. The mix of vintage showbiz cheese and Exorcist -style demonic doings is distinctive and clever. R (for violent content, some gore and language including a sexual reference). 93 mins.

(B) THE LONG GAME In this 1950s-set historical drama, five young Mexican-American caddies at an all-white country club create their own golf course in the middle of South Texas to learn how to play. It’s a gently rousing, family-friendly drama. Starring Jay Hernandez, Julian Works, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Brett Cullen, Oscar Nuñez, Paulina Chávez, Gregory Diaz IV, José Julián, Cheech Marin and Dennis Quaid. PG (for language, racial slurs, thematic material, some violence and brief rude material). 106 mins.

(A-) LOVE LIES BLEEDING Gym manager Lou (Kristen Stewart) falls for bodybuilder Jackie (Katy O’Brian), who is passing through town on her way to chase her dreams in Las Vegas. But their love leads to violence and entanglement with Lou’s criminal family members in this gritty but darkly funny crime noir. Also starring Ed Harris, Dave Franco and Jena Malone. R (for violence and grisly images, sexual content, nudity, language throughout and drug use). 104 mins.

MAI A woman (Phuong Anh Dao) reluctantly befriends the neighborhood ladies’ man in this romantic drama from Vietnam. In Vietnamese, with subtitles. Not rated. 131 mins.

MAIDAAN This sports drama from India is based on the story of national soccer team coach Syed Abdul Rahim. In Hindi, with subtitles. Not rated. 185 mins.

(B-) MONKEY MAN Dev Patel directs and stars in this erratic action-thriller as a young man who ekes out a living by donning a gorilla mask and getting beaten senseless in an underground fight club. After years of suppressed rage boil over, he seeks vengeance against those who had long victimized him and other poor and powerless people. The script has too many cliches, but Patel makes a fine hero. Also starring Sharlto Copley, Pitobash and Sobhita Dhulipala. R (for strong bloody violence throughout, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use). 123 mins.

(A) PROBLEMISTA In this absurdist comedy, an aspiring toy designer (Julio Torres) from El Salvador struggles to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. With time on his work visa running out, he teams up with an art world outcast (Tilda Swinton) who might offer his only hope to realize his dreams. It’s a beautifully moving piece about how we make it through the world with desperation, hope and the hard-earned lessons we find in each other. R (for some language and sexual content). 98 mins.

STING In this horror flick, a 12-year-old girl’s pet spider transforms into a giant flesh-eating monster. Starring Ryan Corr, Alyla Browne and Penelope Mitchell. R (for violent content, bloody images and language). 91 mins.

(C) WICKED LITTLE LETTERS When a rowdy Irish migrant (Jessie Buckley) is charged with sending profanity-laced letters to the people of a 1920s English seaside town, the local women suspect that something is amiss and begin to investigate on their own in this strained period comedy. The film takes a one-note farcical approach to a slice of real-life history, a peculiar move that deserts its formidable cast and squanders its thrilling premise. Also starring Olivia Colman, Anjana Vasan, Timothy Spall, Hugh Skinner and Alisha Weir. R (for language throughout and sexual material). 102 mins.
