Just got off a 2 hour flight from…

Just got off a 2 hour flight from Madrid to Amsterdam. Lost my luggage. Judging from the amount of people lining up at the lost luggage desk this seems to be their speciality. Will not recommend nor fly air Europa ever again.

Do not support this airline

10h long international flight - less space than most airlines, they don’t provide covers, nor earphones or the second meal. They make you pay for water!! Force you to dispatch your hand luggage on hold. Movies come without subtitles (so you're forced to purchase their earphones)... If all the other airlines adhere to this we're doomed.

Worst customer support I've ever had

Worst customer support I've ever had. Calling 5 times to UPGRADE TO BUSINESS and each time they give me a different excuse why they can't! I'm coming to pay you money and you can't even accept it!

YOU WORK WITH EDREAMS WHICH SUCKS

YOU WORK WITH EDREAMS WHICH SUCKS I would never recommend to anyone to subscribe to their “Prime service” you pay for nothing, is better to use it only for comparing prices and buy directly with the airline. The refunds take months in case of any inconvenience. My grandma needs her 700€ back because she couldn’t fly due to health reasons and you are keeping old ladies money and other people in need. NEVER BUY through this sh1tty website. We are waiting for the refund since December and now is June! Nothing but emails and phone calls, that is all you are good for

3 kg of luggage was stolen from me

3 kg of luggage was stolen from me, I made the report as soon as I got off the plane at the airport at the company office, after 6 months the company responded that I did not make the report quickly enough, they refused to investigate, get my things back stolen or to refund my money or compensate me for my loss. I have all the documents that they made me fill out and proof of the weight upon boarding and when making the complaint and yet they say they are dismissing my case. They are thieves and I will never travel with any company in this group again, they do not take charge or help customers in any way. It is a company of thieves and scammers, never ever use this company, they will steal from you and they will not protect you in any way.

It has been one of the worst flights…

It has been one of the worst flights ever! Almost 11 hours flight and they just gave us one meal in the whole flight. They didn’t clean the toilets and there were absolutely disgusting. Everyone was complaining. In addition they broke our laugagge and nobody wanted to take responsibility once we arrived to the airport. They were sending us from one desk to another. So disappointing and embarrasing Air Europa

Traduce en español

Traduce en español On flight UX194 bound for Bogotá today, Thursday, May 23, I was a victim of an abuse of power by the girl who managed the opening of gate B6. When I went to ask her a question because I had my headphones on and thought I had been called, she said, "Ahhh, since you thought so, stay there. I'll request an inspection by the police for you," laughing. In a rude and despotic manner, she took my passport and handed it to the police. Everything went well, but I find this extremely DISRESPECTFUL. I am a frequent flyer, travel to Bogotá for work, and this is the first time in my life that something like this has happened to me. An abuse in every sense of the word.

Absolutely the worst customer service…

Absolutely the worst customer service ive ever experienced. I was forced to check in my carry on bag and carry all my laptops just because they overbooked and the lady has the guts to tell me that it’s my fault for some made up reason and fights with me. I understand full flights but it’s a favour we should be rewarded for checking in our carry on. Instead they make it like they are doing the favour. Worst ever! She was also a bit racist.

RUN!! Absolutely dreadful experience - They didn't want me to board the plane as they couldn't find my reservation even though I had the confirmation and my ticket in my emails. They made me wait 5 hours for the next flight only to refuse me unless I paid again!!

Modern planes but way too little…

Modern planes but way too little legroom in economy. Very uncomfortable especially on a trans Atlantic flight. The food was disgusting and the flight attendants were more occupied with eachother than with passengers. Both outbound and return flight the crew was not attentive at all.

Date of experience : 12 April 2024

Cancelled Flight

They are quick to get your money but return it when they cancel the flight is another thing. They send you a voucher that expires in several years and you do not have access to the money ever because they actively refuse to give it back. TO AVOID

Date of experience : 14 May 2024

Toilets flooded and seats were wet

We paid more money for the seats with extra legroom and then the toilets of the plane were flooding during the night... shoes, bags, a purse, and other items laying on the floor were all soaked in toilet-water but the crew did not care. The crew just stood there saying "oh, how awful" and then just left... from there on, they just ignored us for a couple of hours until we landed. The customer service of this shi**y company also ignored my requests for compensation; they just answered the first email with a "sorry, and goodbye" and then just never replied again.

Good flight experience

We flew from London Gatwick to San Pedro Sula via Madrid and back. Having read the negative Trustpilot reviews I was prepared for the worst, but everything went very smoothly. Modern and clean planes, good movie selection, OK food, pleasant staff, arrived on time.

Date of experience : 14 August 2023

Shambles over pre paid baggage

My return flight from London to Madrid had an Opodo confirmation that I had 2 checkin bags for each leg. Outward flight was fine. At Madrid airport for the inbound flight the aireuropa team told me I had no prepaid bags and had to pay 65 euro for my bag. I showed them my opodo confirmation and they said that had nothing to do with them. Total shambles. I’d checked before flying to make sure I had check in bags with nothing to pay at the airport, but all for nothing because this car crash of an airline don’t even respect the flight confirmations.

Spanish company gets it right!

Never let it be said I only post negative reviews about Spanish corporations. Flight Tenerife to Madrid very good. On time, polite staff, modern plane. Helped that it was only half full dreamliner. Very cheap fare, seat selection quite cheap also. Good in seat entertainment system.

Date of experience : 29 December 2021

Denied Boarding

Was denied boarding because I was having trouble with the E-Ticket/Customs Form. The form kept telling me I had an error so I couldn’t complete it. My husband and I were asking for help and they spoke to us like we were criminals. We were left in Madrid for two days and had to pay a lot of money for a hotel. I asked if E-Ticket/Customs form could be completed in Punta Cana and I was told NO! I’ve never been spoken to so rudely. I paid $1900 and was denied boarding. Attendant was happy to be yelling and us and not letting us board.

Date of experience : 06 May 2024

Priority boarding and seat reserved

Don’t pay for priority boarding if you travel from Oporto to Madrid. It does not exist. 45€ wasted. I also reserved seats in row 5 and we were allocated row 7. Another 45€ wasted.

Very good experience!

My family of four flew from London to Cancun via Madrid. We choose Air Europa as it was 25% cheaper than direct flights with BA ( a saving of over £800 for the four of us). All the flights were on time. For a “no frills” airline I thought seats were fine, the staff very efficient, the food was good and the in flight entertainment ok with several films etc to choose from. The website and communication was very good and it was easy to check in on line and download our boarding cards into apple wallet. I’d recommend using Air Europa!

For the reservation L7DVSD

For the reservation L7DVSD, we contacted the airline ON 03 Feb today, the going trip was cancelled in the airline system. We want to check this problem, a female agent Allen /Elein hanged up to the phone rudely. The ticket can not be used, the pax is worried, we are worried , the female agent did not provide any solution, she did not even listen to our request and hanged up the phone, the female shouted to us and told we shouted to her. Shame on her. finally Harold solved the problem. How can the customer service staff of an airline be so irresponsible?

What It’s Like Flying Air Europa Short-Haul in Europe [February 2024 Review]

If you’re like me, you’ve seen Air Europa’s name multiple times as a member of the SkyTeam alliance and wondered more about it. However, I had never flown the Spanish airline until recently. After booking my flights, I had the same question you might have: What is flying Air Europa like?

Specifically, what’s it like for short-haul flights within Europe? Long-haul business class to the U.S. is likely a different beast; after all, airlines tend to put their best foot forward for those flights. But what would I get for 2 separate flights, both just over an hour, inside Europe?

Here’s a review of my experience flying Air Europa from Porto, Portugal, to Madrid, Spain, and onwards to Málaga, Spain, at the end of February 2024.

Let’s start with what I liked about my 2 flights, which were both on Boeing 737-800 aircraft. My wife and I took both of these flights on the same day in a single reservation, from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto through Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) in southern Spain.

On-Time and Organized

Both of our flights left on time, and the gate crew did one of my favorite things in the world: They turned away passengers who tried to board before their group was called. We had boarding group 3, and the people in front of us on the MAD-AGP sector had boarding group 5. When it was time to scan their boarding passes, the employees told them to get out of line and wait for their group. Fantastic!

Beyond the boarding process, check-in was organized, the bathrooms on the plane were kept clean, and everything the crew did felt organized, such as announcements and inflight services.

Partner Booking Options

As a member of the SkyTeam alliance , Air Europa flights can be booked through all alliance partners, such as Delta SkyMiles or Flying Blue miles.

Cheap Cash Fares Available

However, you may not want or need to book with partner miles. Cheap cash fares are available on many Air Europa flights within Europe. Most days of the week, nearly any time of the year, you can book the flights we took for $80 per person .

Air Europa cash cost OPO MAD AGP

Granted, you’ll pay more if you want to choose your seat, get a preferred seat with more legroom, or check a bag. But inexpensive fares on Air Europa are available.

When paying for a flight — or just paying the taxes and fees on an award ticket — pay with one of the best credit cards for airfare to maximize your rewards and benefits. I used The Platinum Card ® from American Express , which earns 5x points per dollar spent on flights  purchased directly with the airline or with AmexTravel.com (up to $500,000 per year, then 1x).

Space To Work

Unlike airlines I’ve flown with similar low-cost fares, the tray tables were still a great size . Here’s my 13-inch laptop on the tray table for comparison.

Air Europa 13 inch laptop on tray table

The seatback pocket was a generous size as well. This definitely wasn’t Ryanair , which you might think of when you see the cost of some Air Europa flights.

Air Europa laptop and documents in seat back pocket

Cheap Inflight Food and Drinks

Another thing that really surprised me was the cost of food and drinks for sale on the flights. I’m very used to U.S. airlines ripping me off for a few crackers with some hummus. Paying €5.50 (close to $6) for a muffin and a juice or coffee seemed pretty reasonable by comparison .

Combos were available to save against the price of buying items individually.

However, not everything was roses. There are a few areas where Air Europa left us wanting more.

Full-Service Cost, Budget Airline Amenities

It seems like every airline is cutting back on inflight services these days, and Air Europa was no exception. I wasn’t expecting a full meal on these short flights, but at least you get a drink and maybe a cookie on a short flight in the U.S. With Air Europa, we paid for anything we wanted to consume .

Air Europa economy sandwich menu B737 800 MAD AGP

There also was no entertainment system at the seats … not even a music option accessed by plugging your headphones into the armrest.

Minimal Space

In this aspect, Air Europa definitely felt like a low-cost airline. Spacing between rows of seats was tight. I’m 5 feet 10 inches tall, for reference, and my knees were nearly hitting the back of the seat in front of me . If you’re much taller, good luck.

Air Europa knee space in economy middle seat

The planes had business class seats at the front, providing some extra space but not much beyond that.

Air Europa business class seats on B737 800

You can pay for “XL seats” in the exit rows. But anyone not forking over €30 to €40 or getting upgrades from elite status will wind up in the seats we had.

Air Europa standard seats and XL seats on B737 800

Minimal Information From Employees

There was a desk agent on the phone at the check-in desk who was still on the phone when it was our turn to check in and remained on the phone throughout the process . Thus, he didn’t tell us anything at all. Not even the location of our gate, which seemed pretty important.

Air Europa check in at Porto OPO

Air Europa very much felt like a do-it-yourself airline. The check-in agent simply waited for us to hand over our passports and put our luggage on the scale — no talking involved.

This sizer for hand baggage was available near the check-in desks, and you could test out your bag on your own. Beyond that, flight crews didn’t help passengers find their seats, chat with customers, or talk in any way that went beyond absolute necessity. There’s a happy medium between “lips are sealed” and “won’t shut up” for airline employees, and Air Europa could improve by moving into it.

Air Europa carryon bag size at check in Porto OPO

We got from A to B efficiently, cheaply, and safely. At the end of the day, that’s what matters most. Were we impressed by Air Europa after our short-haul flights in Europe? Not really. But we also didn’t hate it.

We earned a few miles from paid flights, got where we wanted to go, and didn’t receive any frills along the way . Employees weren’t talkative by any stretch of the imagination, but at least they enforced boarding groups and didn’t overcharge for inflight food.

As part of a continent-hopping weekend that brought me to Europe, South America, back to Europe and then finally home to New York in just four days, I'd booked a round-trip ticket on the Spanish carrier Air Europa to test out its 787-8 Dreamliner in both business class and economy on long-haul flights.

I really enjoyed my flight with Air Europa in business class between Madrid, Spain (MAD), and Bogotá, Colombia (BOG) , and even though I knew I'd be far less comfortable in economy on the red-eye flight back from BOG to MAD, I was still excited to see if the airline could replicate some of the fun and quirky aspects that stood out in business class, but in the back of the bus.

When I set out to book this trip, I knew that I wanted to review Air Europa in both classes of service, and was open to both the destination and other flights to position me wherever I needed to be. We noticed that there were reasonably priced fares that included a segment in business and in coach from Madrid to Bogotá and Lima, Peru (LIM). I'd been to Peru before, so I decided that I'd spend the weekend in Bogotá. Then, to position, I thought I'd book tickets that would allow for more reviews to happen, so I ended up making things a lot more interesting by booking three separate tickets to allow for all of this:

  • A round-trip, economy ticket from New York-JFK to MAD (already flown) and then from MAD to Paris (CDG) to New York-JFK (upcoming, and review coming soon)
  • A round-trip ticket between MAD and BOG with one segment in biz and one in coach (already flown)
  • A round-trip, business-class ticket from MAD-CDG-JFK (already flown, and review coming soon) and then from JFK-MAD (upcoming, and review also coming soon)

As Air Europa is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, a good place to start searching for award flights is Air France-KLM's Flying Blue program , which is probably the best engine for searching SkyTeam availability. However, FlyingBlue doesn't maintain an award chart, meaning you can't count on redeeming miles at a fixed rate for flights. I did a search on the site for some of Air Europa's flights between its base in Madrid and the US cities it serves (New York and Miami) and found one-way coach tickets for as little as 21,000 miles. You can expect to pay around $100 in taxes and fees when you book award tickets through Flying Blue.

The benefit of booking through Flying Blue, of course, is how easy it is to amass miles in the program. It's a transfer partner of all three major transferable points currencies — American Express Membership Rewards , Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou — so even if you don't have enough points in one account, you can combine points from the various accounts in order to acquire the Flying Blue miles necessary for booking the flight you want. If you're short miles in any of these accounts, you could apply for a card like The Platinum Card® from American Express, which is offering 100,000 Membership Rewards Points after you spend $6,000 on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening.

Since we paid cash for this ticket, I was eager to add my Delta SkyMiles number to the reservation so that I could earn Medallion Qualifying Miles and Medallion Qualifying Dollars for my trip. But I made a critical error. I booked my round-trip Air Europa ticket without double-checking which fare classes I was purchasing, and when I called Delta after noticing I earned zero miles for the trip, I was kindly informed that the business segment had booked into the O class, and economy into the P, meaning I wasn't eligible to earn any miles at all for the trip.

Lesson learned.

My flight was scheduled to depart at 9:35pm, so I got in an Uber at the Four Seasons Casa Medina in Bogotá just after 7pm and arrived with a full two hours before my flight. As I soon found out, that was a great move on my part. The airport experience turned out to be quite a bit better than normal.

air europa tours reviews

I'd heard good things about the city's El Dorado International Airport, but I was really impressed in person. The terminal looked brand-new, had soaring ceilings and glass walls and plenty of good signage.

air europa tours reviews

I also loved that the airport employed the same lush touches that I found throughout the city and in my hotel.

air europa tours reviews

I made my way to the small Air Europa check-in section at the end of the terminal building and entered the SkyPriority line, to which I had access thanks to my Diamond status with Delta, even though I was flying economy.

air europa tours reviews

This is where things took a turn for the worse, though it wasn't necessarily the fault of the airline or the airport but rather my craziness. When I handed over my passport and my boarding pass, I was immediately met with uncertain looks. The agent started asking me questions about my trip, specifically why I had come from Spain just two days prior and was already going back, and then how much time I was spending in Madrid. When I told them that I was heading to New York not even a full day after landing, they were even more confused and asked to see the ticket for the Air France flight that would take me from Madrid to New York via Paris.

air europa tours reviews

I tried to explain that I was flying because I love to fly -- and for the miles, of course -- but since we were conversing in Spanish, some of this got lost in translation. After quite a bit of back and forth (and a lot of me stumbling over Spanish words), I was on my way.

But there was one more snafu -- the immigration officer in Bogotá asked me if I had a second passport as I was getting my exit stamp. It may have been completely unrelated, but I was rattled from my check-in experience, so that threw me off guard even more. However, it all ended fine, and I was finally airside.

I frankly hadn't considered looking for a Priority Pass lounge because I don't include lounges as part of my judgment of an economy flight, but when I passed the gleaming entrance for the El Dorado Lounge, I couldn't pass up the prospect of a free glass of wine or two ... or three.

air europa tours reviews

I still won't be including my fairly brief visit to this lounge in my score of this section, but I still think it's worth talking about, as it's one of the most unique Priority Pass lounges I've visited, hands down.

air europa tours reviews

It took the El Dorado theme very seriously -- the space itself was on the dark side, but the walls were wood and adorned with gold accents, and the ceiling had gold-colored lighting features. One wall was constructed with faux rocks -- clearly an homage to the mythical city of gold that still has a strong influence in Colombia today.

air europa tours reviews

There were plenty of places to sit, and plenty of food. I chose a few dishes from the hot buffet and sat down at a table so that I could work before boarding. The food was quite good, though I had a lot of trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi network, so I ended up tethering to my phone.

air europa tours reviews

On my way out of the lounge, I discovered that it had two unique areas: a children's playroom that honestly looked like a creepy haunted forest to me, and a basketball simulator. Well, OK then!

air europa tours reviews

I made my way to the gate, which was very close to the lounge, and waited for boarding. The process began about 20 minutes behind schedule and was generally disorganized.

air europa tours reviews

Had I not had the check-in and immigration issues, I would have rated this ground experience a lot higher, since the airport itself really was a great facility. However, it took quite a long time to sort my issues at check-in, so it definitely detracted from the experience. This experience was fairly unique, obviously, and unless you're doing a similarly crazy itinerary, you likely won't have these kinds of issues.

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Cabin and Seat" tpg-rating="18" tpg-rating-max="25" configuration="3" configuration-2="3" configuration-3="3" width="17" pitch="31" lavs="6" live-tv="0" tailcam="0" headphones="0" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" /]

Once I was on board, I found my seat, 17K, a window seat toward the front of the economy cabin. Before I got on the plane, I was hoping I'd have at least one empty seat next to me, since the flight over to Bogotá was fairly empty. Those hopes were quickly dashed, though, as two people were already occupying the seats next to mine.

air europa tours reviews

Air Europa's 787-8s have 276 seats, arranged in the Dreamliner's typical 3-3-3 layout. Each seat is a tight 17 inches wide, and legroom is an equally tight 31 inches. Seat width in coach is pretty much standard across all operators of the 787, but legroom, also known as seat pitch, is very much the decision of each individual airline.

air europa tours reviews

On my flight, each seat was upholstered in light blue fabric and had a light blue leather headrest with adjustable wings -- these proved critical for sleeping.

air europa tours reviews

Besides looking out the window, of course, I choose window seats so that I can rest my head on the fuselage in order to be more comfortable while sleeping. What I forgot, though, was that pesky armrest on the window side of the seat. I really wish airlines would allow these to be raised -- it would make the window seats even better than they already are.

There were six lavatories available to economy passengers, though these were toward the back of the plane, so many economy passengers went toward the front to use one of the business-class restrooms. No one seemed to care.

air europa tours reviews

I found the cabin to be clean and fresh overall -- and it should have been, given this bird was only 3 years old. It was a pretty standard hard product. I was still able to sleep for several hours on the flight, which I considered a success.

air europa tours reviews

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Amenities and IFE" tpg-rating="10" tpg-rating-max="15" movies="47" tv-shows="22" live-tv="No" tailcam="No" headphones="Yes" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" /]

Waiting at each seat upon boarding were a pillow that was on the small side and a blanket that actually felt like real fleece. The pillow would have been more useful had it been about triple the size, but I liked the blanket quite a bit ... until I overheated midflight due to the lack of individual air vents in the cabin.

air europa tours reviews

There was no amenity kit to speak of, and the only other amenity offered was a pair of earbuds, which I purchased for 3 euros ($3.35) -- I only had my AirPods with me, which obviously didn't plug in to the plane's IFE system.

air europa tours reviews

On my business-class flight two days prior, I found that I quite liked the IFE system, though the selection of movies was on the sparse side and the Wi-Fi situation was frustrating. Since this flight was a red-eye, though, I wasn't going to purchase Wi-Fi, and I really only had to find one movie to keep me occupied, which I did.

air europa tours reviews

I watched a movie about Juan José Hidalgo, the founder of Air Europa, and his family, many of whom work at the airline today. It traced the history of the airline from its humble origins to today, when it flies Dreamliners across the Atlantic.

air europa tours reviews

Before I fell asleep, I played around with the IFE's map features and stumbled upon a map that highlighted Air Europa's destinations and had a little blurb of information on each city. I found this to be a fun feature to play with. I liked reading what the airline had to say about each of the cities it serves.

air europa tours reviews

Just like in business class, the IFE system was intuitive and modern, though I do think that the airline could beef up its movie selection.

In business class, Air Europa frankly blew me away with the food on offer. Could it do the same in economy?

Well, no, not really. Meal service started quickly after takeoff, which I appreciated, as I was trying to maximize sleep. There was no menu distributed in economy, so I had to make a choice on the spot -- not something I'm great at. Two flight attendants appeared at the front of the economy cabin and started moving down the aisle, with one serving beverages and the other food.

I placed my drink order first -- I was excited to see that there was a large bottle of Fanta orange soda on the cart, so I couldn't resist ordering a glass of that, along with water.

Next came the main event. The flight attendant asked if I wanted pasta or chicken. I decided to try the chicken. It was served with carrots and rice and actually tasted like ... real food! I enjoyed the main entree but was left wanting a little bit more on the rest of the tray. The meal was served with just a small roll and a flan-like dessert. It was all actually tasty, but I definitely would have liked something more -- perhaps a salad or cheese and crackers, like many other airlines offer. Or both!

air europa tours reviews

The next meal was served when we were about 90 minutes away from Madrid, and there was no choice for this meal. The same two flight attendants set up their carts at the front of the aisle once again and began making their way down. I asked for another glass of water, along with an orange juice. Then I was handed a ham-and-cheese sandwich on a croissant. It wasn't particularly memorable by any means, but I definitely appreciated having a hot breakfast. It was far better than the sugary muffin you receive on so many other airlines in coach.

air europa tours reviews

While I enjoyed my meals and found them to be of high quality, I just wished that the dinner service had more -- it was a pretty long flight, so having a bit more on the tray would have kept passengers satisfied for longer.

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Service" tpg-rating="20" tpg-rating-max="25" live-tv="0" tailcam="0" headphones="0" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" blurb="Though there weren't many chances to interact with the crew, it was pleasant when I did." /]

Predictably, I didn't interact much with the flight attendants, given that I was sitting in economy. However, every time I asked a question or was served something, I was met with a smile and friendly demeanor. It seems that Air Europa flight attendants enjoy their jobs and truly strive to provide good service to passengers.

Overall Impression

I don't have high expectations for the economy flight experience in general, but Air Europa definitely met them. Its Dreamliners are fresh, modern and allow passengers to arrive at their destination more refreshed and less jet-lagged than other aircraft types, thanks to higher cabin pressure and moisture. The IFE system was solid, though the movie selection could be expanded. And the food was on the better end of the economy spectrum, but I just wanted a little bit more.

air europa tours reviews

At the end of the day, I wouldn't hesitate at all to fly Air Europa again -- I just need to make sure I'll actually earn miles for my trip next time.
