Denali Park

Denali National Park

Denali National Park Alaska

At over six million acres, Denali National Park is larger than the state of Massachusetts. The Park is home to Dall sheep, grizzly bear, caribou, moose and Mt. Denali… the tallest mountain in North America. It is no wonder roughly 400,000 visitors make their way to Denali each year.

Getting There

The trip on the railroad north from Anchorage will take you just under eight hours, or you can ride south from Fairbanks in about four. Trains operate daily during the summer months and you can choose from several different classes or levels of rail service . For more information see Denali Park schedules , rates or click on a specific trip below.

The Park Connection Motorcoach offers twice daily service to Denali Park from Anchorage, as well as same day service from Whittier and Seward. Most travelers that book with us take the bus for part of their trip, here’s why .

Where to Stay

Most visitors to Denali stay in hotels or lodges located just outside the Park entrance, either one mile north in the Denali Canyon area or seven miles south near Denali Village. Our top picks are the Denali Princess, Grande Denali and Denali Bluffs Hotel north of the entrance, or the Lodge at Denali Village to the south.

There are also a number of wilderness lodges deep inside Denali Park at the end of the Park road. Our favorites include the Kantishna Roadhouse and the Denali Backcountry Lodge.

Getting Around

Board the comfortable motorcoach in Seward and enjoy the scenic transfer along Turnagain Arm to Anchorage. You can view Alaska’s most famous animals - grizzly bears, moose, muskox, caribou, bison -   up close in a natural setting during the stopover at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Your next destination is Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and filled with lot of adventures along with metropolitan amenities. An elk or moose could graze on a river. The blue of a glacier peeps out from a mountain under the melting snow in summer. Visit one of the dining carriages and, over a meal of Alaskan salmon served on fine porcelain, relive the experience. Denali National  Park  is  the  natural  habitat  for many types of wildlife including caribou, moose, wolves, Dall sheep, bald eagles, and the mighty grizzly bears. It is most likely you will spot some of them while taking our full day Denali Transit Bus to Eielson Center, Wonder Lake or Kantishna Roadhouse. You may exchange this tour and join the guided Tundra wilderness bus tour. Many optional activities and excursions are offered at Denali Village - enjoy a scenic float down the Nenana River or an exhilarating jetboat safari. Customizing Tours

All of our tours are flexible and you can add, modify or exchange nights in destinations to suit your timetable and preferred routing. Thus, sometimes it will be necessary to observe ferry schedules, national park opening/closing dates etc. to match certain dates and/or departures. Please check also each itinerary online.

Included Services

Please refer to the appropriate tour page for a listing of included services. Our service generally includes the rental car, accommodation, applicable local taxes, ferry trips as scheduled, sightseeing as per itinerary, a detailed tour description, highway or road logs. Not included are: Meals, tunnel tolls, gasoline, entrance fees, additional sightseeing tours. The rental of a compact car (automatic) is always included in our flexible self drive tour packages. Additional rental days or upgrade to a Mid and Full Size Car, Mini Van or Sport Utility Vehicles (4x4) are available. The displayed upgrade rental rates are always per car (not per person) - and of course for the total length of the tour package. Our advertised rates include all local taxes, licensing fee, airport fee, road tax and unlimited mileage. Rental Car insurance is not included as most US guests can use their own private insurance. A valid driver license and a valid major credit card are mandatory for all individual vehicle rentals and/or tour packages including vehicle rentals. Driving on gravel roads/highways is at own risk. The rental car insurance is void on the following highways Denali Highway, Dalton Highway, Top of the World Highway, Taylor Highway, McCarthy Road, Dempster Highway and all other gravel roads. You will be responsible for any damages. Drivers have to be more than 25 years of age. Contact us if you are below 25 years of age.

Advance Reservation

If you travel during the high season from the middle/end of June until the end of August we recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointments with sold out situations in highly frequented national parks and gateways - because the northern tour season is very short. The same applies in/around national holidays. Any hotel accommodation, rentals cars and ferry space must be definitely booked well in advance. Thus, tour operator such as our company may still have space on a short notice. Accordingly it is well worth to contact us.

Travel Month

The last two weeks of May, June and September are perfect months for a vacation in the Land of the Midnight Sun. The weather is usually stable and sunny with almost 24 hours of daylight. July and August are prime travel months and are obviously very busy.

Emergency Assistance

Levis, San Francisco: Thank you for organizing this amazing post cruise tour. We arrived in Seward aboard the Celebrity Millenium and really enjoyed our visit to the Alaska wildlife conservation center. The variety of animals to view did not disappoint. The setting is perfect! I loved that you are able to observe up close - that could have been a little luck too. The schedules, vouchers, trips, tours all went according to plan and expectations. After travelling we feel we really happy with your quality of services. The McKinley resort was vey good in all facilities which had a good flexible breakfast program. We really enjoyed the Dome car ride from Anchorage to Denali and wished we had booked it to the return journey too.

►  Tours    ►  St Petersburg and Moscow tours   ► Two capitals of Russia

denali national park train tours

Moscow and St Petersburg are considered the two capitals of Russia and both cities are strikingly different from each other but amazing in their own ways. Moscow is a major metropolis which is constantly changing and whose citizens are almost always in a rush. It is the political and financial centre of the country and home to the president whose residence is located inside the Moscow Kremlin. St Petersburg is known as the Northern Capital and the Venice of the North. It is also considered the cultural capital of Russia and has a much more European feel to it than Moscow.

St Petersburg is often regarded as more beautiful than Moscow with its countless bridges and canals, stunning palaces and architectural masterpieces, all of which especially shines during the period known as the white nights when the sun does not set.

On this tour to Moscow and St Petersburg you will visit the main treasures of both capitals, including the Red Square and St Basil Cathedral , the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow and St Petersburg’s Hermitage . The tour is perfect for those coming to Russia for the first time and can be combined with visits to the Golden Ring or a trip on the Trans-Siberian. The tour is based on you arriving in Russia in one city and then leaving from the other, as this will save time and is the best option for seeing both cities. If you arrive and depart from the same city then one extra night at a hotel and an extra train (or plane) trip will need to be added.

This itinerary is best for first visits to Russia for this particular duration of stay, but as this tour is completely private you can modify it according to your preferences and special requirements.

There are several very nice places in Losiny Ostrov National Park. You can visit a biostation to see moose and deers and you can visit the swamp lands, not only for the autumn colors but also for birdwatching, also there is a historic museum in the cottage of former lumberjack. I would contact the parK directly for a guided tour, here is the name of a very nice tour guide: [email protected]

There were some reports a few years ago of homeless dog packs attacking visitors. Unfortunately, it may still be the case of poor city management of that particular issues of stray dogs in city parks. Locals may have updated info. At some point back in October 2010 I found that someone thrown 4 few weeks old puppies and they lived underneath a wooden shack of winter swimmers club in Sokolniki park, next to big Putyaevsky pond. I brought them couple times pound or two sausages, but… who knows if they made it through the winter, and if they did they may not be the ones you want to meet while browsing forests…
