Hotels and festivals will get booked up during the prime season around the new year. Book early to ensure your spot and look for deals.

Accommodation Near Ashwem Beach Has The Best Internet

If you’re working from the area, consider accommodation near Ashwem Beach. I was able to find workable internet at the Relic Guesthouse and Morjim Sunset Guesthouse but it took some looking. You can find more options on the next beach north which is Ashwem Beach.

VI. The Downsides of Visiting Morjim

While Morjim has much to offer, it has a few downsides. It can get crowded during peak season (December to February), which may detract from the tranquility.

Also, as it’s a turtle nesting site, beach parties are restricted, making the nightlife quieter than in other Goan towns.

Finally, Morjim can feel quite isolated during the monsoon season (June to September) with fewer open restaurants and activities.

VII. Example Morjim 1-Day Itinerary

Here’s a sample one-day itinerary to give you an idea of how you could spend a day in Morjim:

  • Late Morning: Head back to Morjim and spend some time on Morjim Beach. Try to spot the Olive Ridley turtles if you’re there in season.
  • Lunch: Head to Jardin D’Ulysses or beachside Rainbow Bar and Restaurant for delicious seafood.
  • Afternoon: Take a trip to the Chapora Fort and enjoy the panoramic views. On the way back, stop by the Saturday Night Market in Arpora for some shopping and snacks.
  • Evening: Return to Morjim Beach to watch the sunset.
  • Dinner: Enjoy a beachfront dinner at Jardin d’Ulysse, ending the day with some fine dining.

Remember, this is just a sample itinerary. There are many ways to experience Morjim, so feel free to mix and match to suit your travel style!

Morjim beach is one of the most talked-about beaches in Goa. This beautiful, heaven of a beach is situated on the Chapora River estuary in the northern river bank.

Morjim beach unlike the other crowded beaches of North of Goa is a much quieter and more peaceful sort of place.

This beach stretches around 3 kilometers wide and is just next to Ashvem beach, another popular beach lying in the North of Goa.

About Morjim Beach

Morjim beach is also famous for being the nesting place for the Olive Ridley Turtle, (an endangered species of turtle).

Many Russian immigrants have settled down in Morjim, which is why it’s also called “Little Russia” in modern times.

The beach is part of the beautiful, quaint Morjim village and has a unique charm to it, surrounded by palm trees, ponds, and forests, which together contribute to making Morjim one of the most authentic Goan beaches.

Things to do at Morjim Beach

Morjim Boat

Morjim beach, much like its neighboring beach, Ashvem, is made of soft sand, and shallow sea.

1. Relax and Paddle in the Water

The sea adjoining the beach is very comfortable and pleasant for swimming, especially for those who just want to relax and paddle in the water.

2. Olive Ridley sea turtles

The beach ensures that there is sufficient space at the southern end of the beach, close to the Chapora river for the Olive Ridley sea turtles to wander about freely without being disturbed. Tourists are allowed to enjoy these beautiful creatures, without disrupting their presence.

3. Kite Surfing

Kite surfing is another popular activity conducted on the beach by locals and tourists, however other activities like water sports, are not allowed on the beach due to the inhabitance of other water species.

4. Sunbathing on the Beach

Tourists can enjoy sunbathing on the beach, while watching the seagulls and dolphins in the distance, all enjoying the brilliant eco-system of mother earth together. You can also take a walk on the beach, read a book, or have a nap on the beds along the beach shore.

5. Morjim Beach Shacks: Delicious Cuisine

There are a number of shacks on the beach-side, offering some delicious cuisine of local food as well as other mouth-watering and appetizing meals.

Warm glow of hanging lamps in the restaurant.

Bringing a slice of Mexico to the shores of Morjim Beach, Tikitii creates a bohemian vibe that takes its inspiration from Tulum. The seaside restaurant is casual-chic and largely features Mexican dishes such as tacos, quesadillas, burrito rolls and more. Interior designer Yogesh Patil who has helmed this project, has done up the space using driftwood accents and woven rattan furniture. Since Tikitii opens out to the ocean, the view makes it an apt spot for a sundowner. Post sunset, a warm glow is created by the myriad hanging lamps that light up the restaurant, and the ones on each table. A blend of geometric shapes as well as curves and arches are seen throughout its interiors, making it visually interesting and distinct. The addition of large planters further accentuates its ambience.

Voltaire features artworks as well as installations that pay a tribute to Goa's fishing and farming communities

Located in Reis-Magos, Voltaire is amongst the new restaurants in Goa serving authentic Saraswat cuisine using recipes from the owner’s family. The vibrant ochre facade is reminiscent of traditional Goan homes that are often painted in bright hues. The architecture further adds to its old-world charm. What was once a hardware godown belonging to the family, was later transformed into a restaurant by architects Yatin Fulari and Teja Amonkar, with interiors and landscaping done by architect Shalka Naik. The 4,000 square feet space features five seating zones across different floors — from air-conditioned rooms to verandahs with scenic views of the Mandovi River and the patio and garden. Staying true to its Goan roots, the interiors of Voltaire feature traditional furniture pieces, antique trinkets from the owner’s collection as well as artworks and installations that pay a tribute to Goa's fishing and farming communities.

At ISSA, bench-style seating and a functional bar create a more casual atmosphere

7 low light indoor plants that are perfect for Indian homes

Situated in the heart of Siolim, facing the Chapora River, ISSA is a quintessential riverside restaurant with a laid back charm. A gentle breeze, live music and sundowners over cocktails and contemporary European cuisine set the vibe at ISSA. Natasha Kochhar of Let’s Think Design First, has designed the space that is spread across two levels. There’s also a central courtyard that is adorned with a tree. Exuding a Mediterranean charm, the restaurant features hand drawn wall murals and traditional tile work around the stairs. Inside, a soothing palette of beige is complemented by handmade lamps, ashwood flooring and furniture. While the river is framed through the French windows here, on the upper floor you get an uninterrupted view of it. Here, bench-style seating and a functional bar create a more casual atmosphere. ISSA manages to create an impact with its minimal, subtle decor choices.

Saborosa features an island bar in the centre

In Benaulim, inside D7 La Serene Resort, Saborosa welcomes patrons via a staircase lined with indoor plants. As you enter the restaurant on the first floor, it opens up to a spacious yet homely setting where tables showcase colourful tile patterns. The glass windows offer a view of the swaying trees, the resort and pool area, while a small section of seating is also outside. The founder Mazey Sequeira who has envisioned the design of the space, wanted to recreate her childhood memory of having meals with her grandparents in their kitchen garden but in a largely indoor setting keeping Goa’s weather in mind. Her vision was executed by architect Lesley Rajendaran. The cuisine served here is a mix of European and Goan delicacies while an island bar in the centre pours hot and cold beverages.

Taupe retains an old-world charm

Nestled in a quaint 150-year-old Portuguese villa in Assagao, Taupe offers modern Indian cuisine to patrons with dishes like burrata papdi chaat and tawa meat. Retaining its old-world charm, the bungalow has been converted to seat visitors without making too many architectural changes to the layout. The interiors have been designed by one of the co-founders, Shyaam Khurana, with a vision to celebrate the villa’s cultural importance whilst creating a welcoming and memorable space for guests. From the arched doors to the high ceiling with rafters, and from the antique chandeliers to the wood and rattan furniture, the decor is minimal yet impactful. The earthy , pastel hues on the walls are highlighted with a soft glow. Taupe also has a strong beverage program crafted to pair perfectly with its flavourful fare.

The decor at Heliconia is an interplay between the verdant greens outside and its depiction in the interiors inside

Named after the flower that grows in Peru and also in abundance in Goa, Heliconia finds a spot inside JW Marriott Goa in Vagator. A short buggy ride takes patrons to this specialty dining venue that serves Nikkei cuisine — a blend of Peruvian and Japanese culinary traditions. The decor designed by couturier Rajdeep Ranawat is an interplay between the verdant greens outside and its depiction in the interiors inside. The large glass windows open up to views of these tranquil surroundings while potted plants and tropical wall murals mimic this indoors. The detailing is also evident in some of the seating. Keeping the cuisine in mind, the decor also showcases influences of the two cultures, be it the traditional ceiling design, the flooring or the wood and rattan elements. This seamless juxtaposition of traditional and modern aesthetics with an ode to nature set a calming vibe inside Heliconia.
