Paying online

When you apply online, you pay the fee with a credit card in connection with the application. The same applies if you are applying to extend your permit. The card must be enabled for Internet payment. Contact your bank for more information. 

Paying at an embassy or consulate-general

If you are applying at an embassy or consulate-general, you pay the fee when you hand in your application. The fee is usually paid in the local currency. The exchange is calculated according to the rate set by the European Central Bank. The amount is rounded off to the nearest whole amount. Excep­tions from visa fees

Not everyone applying for a visa has to pay the application fee. The following people may apply for visas for the Schengen area (maximum of 90 days) without paying an application fee:

• children under the age of 6
• school pupils, university and doctoral students, together with the teachers accompanying them, who travel to Sweden for educational purposes
• researchers travelling to Sweden for academic research
• representatives of non-profit organisations
• representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations.

Family members of citi­zens of Iceland, Liech­tenstein, Norway, Swit­zer­land and the EU

Family members of citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the EU do not have to pay an application fee for a visa if they are to move to the family member in Sweden. This also applies to a short journey to prepare for a move together with the family member in Sweden. They must also be able to show proof of their marriage or family ties.

This rule applies to the following family members:

• husband, wife, cohabiting partner or registered partner (cohabiting partners of Swiss citizens are not included)
• children under the age of 21
• children over the age of 21 if they are dependent on their parents for their support
• parents who are financially dependent on their children in Sweden.

Swedish nationals are not included in the group "EU citizens" in this context.

Lower fees for some countries

The following countries are included in the EU Visa Facilitation Agreement, and their citizens pay no fee, or a lower fee, when applying for a visa:

Fees for exten­ding an entry visa

In certain cases you may be granted an extended entry visa if your total stay is less than 90 days.

You don't pay anything when you submit your application. When the Migration Agency will examine your application we will contact you to pay the fee. You pay the fee to bankgiro number 5223-7005. The IBAN for the account is SE6912000000012810106908 and the BIC/SWIFT code is DABASESX (Danske Bank).

In the box for messages to the recipient, you write the name and surname of the person the application fee is for, as well as their personal identity number and/or case number. If you are paying the fees of several people at the same time, write the personal identity number and/or case number for each of them.

You may apply for a visitor's permit if you are visiting Sweden for a period longer than 90 days, or if you wish to extend your stay in Sweden.

Excep­tions from fees for visi­tor's permits

Not everyone who applies has to pay a fee. The exceptions are

• family members of EU/EEA citizens. Swedish nationals are not included in the group "EU citizens" in this context
• EU/EEA citizens applying for residence permits
• Swiss citizens and their family members
• Japanese citizens
• visitors in Sweden who are unable to travel home because of an extraordinary event. This applies to persons who apply for a visitor’s permit, specify an extraordinary event as the only ground for their application and state that they intend to travel home as soon as possible. An extraordinary event can, for example, be an ash cloud or a pandemic that means that it is temporarily not possible to travel.

If you have paid the wrong appli­ca­tion fee

You can get money back if you have paid the wrong application fee. For example, you may have accidentally paid the fee twice. If you have applied online or on paper, you must contact the Migration Agency to request the money back. If you have submitted an application to an embassy or consulate-general, you should contact them instead.

When you request a refund you should write

• your first name and surname
• your personal ID number or date of birth
• your address
• why you should get a refund
• which case number/control number the fee applies to
• which bank and account number the money should be transferred to.

You must also submit a bank statement or receipt that clearly shows that you have paid a fee to the Swedish Migration Agency. Send this in a letter to the Swedish Migration Agency, 601 70 Norrköping.

Sweden is a Scandinavian nation located in European Union. Thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains makes it one of the popular tourist destinations in the world.

Pakistani tourists are required to obtain a Schengen short-term visa. This is a permit to travel to and stay for a maximum of 90 days.

The Swedish Embassy is handling Schengen visa applications for citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan and persons legally residing in Pakistan.

Citizens and residents in Pakistan who want to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden are, from 19 June, referred to hand in their application at VFS Global in Bangkok, Yangon, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, Cebu, Jakarta, Bali, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to choose where to hand in the application and to arrange for a visa in the chosen location, if required by that country. The Embassy of Sweden will not be able to assist or give information in any matters of entry permit or visa to the country the applicant chooses. After an application has been submitted to VFS Global, it is sent together with the passport to the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok for processing and decision.

The fee for Sweden Embassy is currently 80 Euro (equivalent to PKR 24,280 as of January 16, 2024).

Proof of Financial Means

Amid other requirements, the applicant is required to submit proof of financial means and ties to the country of residence i.e. applicant’s personal social and economic status in Pakistan.

Minimum Bank Balance For Sweden Schengen Visa

Applicants are required to submit bank statements showing movements in the last six months, duly signed and stamped by the bank, along with the visa application.

Following is the minimum daily required amount for bearing expense of stay in Sweden. An applicant is required to show the amount which is enough for the days he/she intends to spend there:

The Embassy of Sweden is processing Schengen visa applications for citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan and legal residents of Pakistan.

Citizens and residents of Pakistan who wish to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden will send their application to VFS Global in Bangkok, Yangon, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, Cebu, Jakarta, Bali from June 19. . , Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

Minimum Bank Balance for Sweden Visa

Applicants are required to submit bank statements showing transactions for the past six months with the visa application to prove that they have sufficient funds to support their stay in Sweden.

The minimum daily amount required for living expenses in Sweden is as follows. The applicant is required to show an amount sufficient for the days he intends to spend there:

Applicants must have EUR 2,400 in their bank account if their stay in Sweden is 30 days. As of June 17, 2024, one Euro is equal to 298.24 Pakistani Rupees.

STOCKHOLM - In a move aimed at adjusting to current economic realities, Sweden has announced a significant increase in the salary threshold for work permit applicants, affecting both new applications and extensions.

The adjustment is a follow-up of updated median salary data from Statistics Sweden; as per the fresh announcement,  the salary threshold has been increased from 13,000 kronor in October 2023 to 28,480 kronor as of June 2024, marking a nearly 120% surge in less than a year.

This sharp rise implies that foreign workers need to re-examine their financial planning and potential renegotiations for those seeking work permits. It is to be highlighted that further changes are on the cards, with a proposed future increase to 35,600 kronor per month.

Effective immediately, the new threshold represents 80% of the updated median salary of 35,600 kronor, up from 27,360 kronor based on the previous median salary of 34,200 kronor. Looking ahead, the Swedish government aims to align the threshold with 100% of the median salary by June 2025, with specific exemptions for certain worker categories to ensure fairness across sectors.

To facilitate a smooth transition, a one-year grace period until June 2026 has been granted for work permit renewals, during which the 80% threshold rule will persist. Applications already in progress remain unaffected by the latest adjustments, the Economic Times reported.

It's crucial for applicants to anticipate annual updates to the salary threshold based on the latest statistical releases, while also ensuring that their salary aligns with industry norms or collective bargaining agreements specific to their roles.

For temporary workers under seasonal permits lasting 90 days or less, the previous salary requirement of 13,000 kronor per month remains applicable before taxes, subject to industry standards or collective agreements that may set higher benchmarks.

It is to be highlighted that the government of the United Kingdom has also revised the salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas and is making the entry of immigrants difficult with each passing day.
