2022 cadence bank houston open odds, field notes, best bets and picks to win, share this article.
After a week south of the border, the PGA Tour returns to the states for the Cadence Bank Houston Open in Houston, Texas.
Three of the world’s top 15 players, including No. 2 Scottie Scheffler, are set to tee off Thursday at Memorial Park Golf Course. Scheffler, who finished in a tie for third at Mayakoba last Sunday, is the betting favorite at +550. His good buddy Sam Burns is next in line at +1200 before Tony Finau and Aaron Wise come in at +1500.
Last season, LIV Golf’s Jason Kokrak won by two shots over Kevin Tway and Scheffler.
With a win this week, Scheffler would return to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Last week (world wide technology championship at mayakoba).

I didn’t have Russell Henley on the card last week, but five of my six plays finished T-21 or better (three inside the top 10).
Down five units for the week (.5 unit plays on Joel Dahmen and Aaron Wise), but still up 30.5 units on the season.
If you’re interested in my full card every week, it’s posted on my Twitter sometime Wednesday afternoon. Follow me here.

Fair warning — this week’s card is going to look strikingly similar to last week’s.
So, let’s start with our highest finisher from Mayakoba.
Joel Dahmen is off to a great start this season with three top 20s in his last four starts (T-3 in Mexico). At last year’s Houston Open, Dahmen tied for fifth.
Bets to consider: Outright (+4000), Top 20 (+175)
Maverick McNealy

Again, a familiar name.
McNealy has finished inside the top 20 in his last four starts, two of which were top 10s (T-10 at Mayakoba). In two trips to Memorial Park, Mav has finished T-19 and T-20.
At a track with five par 5s around 500 yards, his length off the tee should come in handy.
Bets to consider: Outright (+2000), Top 20 (+135)

Sam Burns is always good a good bet to contend this time of year. In the fall of 2021, Burns had four top 20s in four starts including a win and two T-7s or better.
This season, Burns finished T-30 at the Sanderson Farms and T-7 a few weeks ago at the CJ Cup. The last two years at Memorial Park, Burns has collected two T-7 finishes.
Bets to consider: Outright (+1200), Top 10 (+155)

Live from Augusta National Golf Club, the 2024 Masters begins today with a stacked leaderboard that includes 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm , 2022 victor Scottie Scheffler and five-time Masters winner Tiger Woods. For betting enthusiasts, predicting a Masters winner can be, well... unpredictable. We took some of the guesswork (but not the fun) out of the 2024 Masters by asking the PGA Tour experts at SportsLine to sound off on their picks to win this year's tournament.
Keep reading for our trusted expert picks, the full Masters schedule plus how and when to watch this week even if you don't have cable.

Who will win the 2024 Masters? Experts chime in on the odds
We asked the PGA Tour experts at SportsLine to share their top picks to win the 2024 Masters.
Mike McClure 's pick to win: Scottie Scheffler
"Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite and clearly the best player in the world right now, but he may not be bettable at the current market price despite winning the most simulations. The market odds of +450 imply an 18.2% win probability, while the model has him at 'only' 10.7%, making him an easy fade at a massive -EV number. The major question mark for Scottie is going to be the lightning-fast putting greens at Augusta. He still wins in most of my simulations."
Patrick McDonald 's pick to win: Sam Burns
"Burns isn't a player who has contended in a major championship in his career, but this season looks to be the time for him to do so. He enjoyed a really nice California swing with a near victory at The American Express in addition to top 10s at Riviera and Pebble Beach as well as a podium result at TPC Scottsdale. Burns has made significant strides off the tee, blending his distance with newfound accuracy. Also reliable on the greens, his chances to win the Masters will stem from whether his iron play is good enough across 72 holes. He hasn't proven it yet on this stage, but he is a player who is in top form, historically thrives during the Florida swing and could be closer to +4000 come the first round at Augusta National."
Sia Nejad 's pick to win: Brooks Koepka
"Koepka's form has been decent over the last couple of months, but we know this big game hunter is fine-tuning his game for the majors. Over his last five years at Augusta, he's had two second-place finishes along with a seventh-place finish (also two missed cuts, which can probably be attributed more to injury than anything else). I've noticed Koepka's number drop slightly in the market and I'm happy to take advantage of it."

2024 Masters odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions
I t's been a year of underdogs winning on the PGA Tour this season, but this week features the strongest field in golf. The 2024 Masters is here as the world's best descend for the 88th time upon Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., for the 1st major of the year. The 1st round begins on Thursday morning.
Below, we look at the 2024 Masters odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .
Jon Rahm will look to defend his title and earn a 2nd green jacket in his 1st major start since joining LIV Golf, while favorite Scottie Scheffler (+400) is seeking to win his 2nd Masters in 3 years. Rory McIlroy , Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka are among the favorites trying to win their 1st green jacket, as well. Past champions teeing it up at Augusta include Jordan Spieth , Hideki Matsuyama , Patrick Reed , Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson .
Oh, and 5-time champion Tiger Woods is in the field, too.
Augusta National is a par 72 and will play at 7,555 yards, 10 yards longer than last year. All of the par-5s offer terrific scoring opportunities but with undulating greens and a number of false fronts, players must be accurate with their irons to hit the proper sections to stay close to the strategically placed pins. The winning score has been between 8-under and 18-under each year since 2010 with the exception of Danny Willett's win in 2016 when he was just 5-under par.

Jon Rahm (+1200)
Repeating as the Masters champion is incredibly difficult. Only 3 players (Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldon, Woods) have ever accomplished it, which shows how tough it is to do. Yet, no one should be surprised if Rahm pulls it off. His odds are longer now than they were pre-tournament last year when he was at +900, and that's strictly because the exposure to him has been lessened by his move to LIV. Rahm is still a world-class player who has finished in the top 10 in 4 of his last 5 starts at Augusta.
Brooks Koepka (+2000)
Koepka was in the driver's seat here last year before a final-round 75 dropped him out of 1st place and gave Rahm the green jacket. He's the best big-game hunter in the world, almost always performing well in the majors no matter his recent form in smaller events. Even after finishing T-45 (out of 53) in LIV's Miami event, Koepka is someone to back this week in Augusta. The move to LIV obviously hasn't hurt his game either, considering he won the PGA Championship last year.
Hideki Matsuyama (+2000)
You could find Matsuyama at around +2500 before his 7th-place finish in San Antonio this past week but he's still a good bet at +2000. He's a past champion and one of the best players in the world around the greens, which is always beneficial around a place like Augusta where you're bound to miss greens all week. He's notched 4 straight top-12 finishes this season, including a win at Riviera, so he's in excellent form entering the Masters.
Will Zalatoris (+2800)
Zalatoris was forced to withdraw from the Masters last year, which was extremely disappointing given that he had finished 6th and 2nd in his 1st 2 starts at this great event. Now that he's gone to the broomstick putter, he's gotten more reliable on the greens. And he still ranks 21st in strokes gained: tee-to-green this season. He doesn't need to putt magnificently this week, but he just can't give away strokes on the greens because he's one of the best ball-strikers in the field.
Masters picks – Contenders
Sahith theegala (+4000).
Theegala's odds have been on a steady climb all season thanks to his 5 top-25 finishes in 9 starts this season, including a quartet of top-10s. He finished 9th in his Masters debut last year, largely thanks to a final-round 67, so maybe he's figuring Augusta out in the little experience he's had here. Now that he's gotten over the "debutants rarely win the Masters" hurdle, he's a good bet to contend again this week.
Corey Conners (+6600)
Conners surprisingly missed the cut last year, but he finished 6th, 8th and 10th in his previous 3 starts at Augusta prior to that. This is a 2nd-shot course and Conners is one of the best iron players around, which has helped him have so much success here in the past. He ranks 4th in SG: approach and 11th in SG: tee-to-green this season, to give you an idea of his ball-striking numbers.
Shane Lowry (+4000)
Lowry skipped the Texas events before the Masters after a successful Florida swing, but that's no reason for concern. He heads back to Augusta ranked 5th in SG: tee-to-green and 3rd in SG: approach, so his ball-striking has been phenomenal all year. He's finished inside the top 25 at the Masters in each of the last 4 years, with a peak in 2022 when he finished 3rd. If the putter cooperates, expect to see him in contention on Sunday.
Masters picks – Long shots
Akshay bhatia (+10000).
Bhatia held off Denny McCarthy on Sunday at the Valero Texas Open for his 2nd PGA Tour win, earning him a spot in the Masters for the 1st time. The 22-year-old is on the verge of a major breakout and he looked every bit like someone who can make some noise at Augusta. He was hitting 350-yard cuts down the middle of the fairway at TPC San Antonio and his wedge game was excellent, as well. He's made 6 cuts in 10 starts this season and finished in the top 20 each time he played the weekend.
Nick Taylor (+15000)
Taylor is a better player than these odds suggest, winning twice in the last 2 seasons – including this year's WM Phoenix Open, a signature event. He finished T-29 in his Masters debut in 2020 when it was played in the fall, so at least he's seen the course before, which takes the pressure of being a debutant out of the picture. He's a terrific iron player, ranking 13th in SG: approach, and his putter is hot (19th in SG: putting), so he could put it all together this week and contend at Augusta National.
Stephan Jaeger (+12500)
Jaeger has the length to play well at Augusta and he clearly isn't afraid of the big guns after taking down Scheffler in Houston, but this will be his Masters debut, which puts him at somewhat of a disadvantage. He doesn't rank lower than 70th in any strokes gained metric and is 23rd in tee-to-green. Even his putting (69th) hasn't been terrible by any stretch. He has 4 top-25s, including a win, in just 9 starts this season.

The 105th PGA Championship is returning to Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, for the fourth time.
The East Course will play much different this week than it did the last time Oak Hill hosted a PGA Championship in 2013. The Donald Ross-designed course underwent an extensive restoration by architect Andrew Green in 2019.
The project included rebuilding and reshaping each of the 18 greens and every bunker on the course. The greens are now pure bentgrass. Green's crews also removed many trees and added back tees, lengthening the course to 7,394 yards, which is 231 yards longer than it was a decade ago.
Long hitters might have an advantage in Rochester, where the weather is unpredictable this time of year. Forecasts for tournament days call for high temperatures from 60 to 70 degrees with a chance of rain.
Here's a look at who can and can't win this week's PGA Championship:
Jump to a section: Guys who can win | If everything goes right Miracles happen | Happy to make the cut | Past champions | PGA professionals
Tier I: The guys who can win
Here are the legitimate contenders to win the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday. They have the games, guts and nerves to handle four pressure-packed rounds.
The world No. 1 should be the favorite in every major championship until he cools down. He has six worldwide victories since October, including his second major championship win at the Masters. Picking up the Wanamaker Trophy would give him three legs of the career grand slam at age 28.
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler might not be ranked No. 1 in the world, but he is still a threat to win each time he tees it up at a major. He tied for 10th at the Masters, his seventh top-10 finish in 14 starts in majors. Scheffler leads the tour in shots gained: tee to green (2.309) and par-4 scoring (3.90), which should help at Oak Hill.
Brooks Koepka
"Big-game Brooks" was back at the Masters, where he was in contention on Sunday and tied for second. The two-time PGA Championship winner said he is healthy and is confident again, which might not be good for the rest of the field.
At this point, it wouldn't be too shocking to see Finau put up a 67 then take his kids to nearby Niagara Falls. He has won four times since late July and is seeking his first major championship victory.
Rory McIlroy
Oak Hill's long and soft conditions would seem to fit McIlroy's game perfectly. Where is he mentally after missing the cut at the Masters and tying for 47th at the Wells Fargo Championship? He leads the tour in driving distance (328.2 yards) but is 172nd in strokes gained: putting (-.356).
Jordan Spieth
Spieth can complete the career grand slam by hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy at Oak Hill on Sunday. He pulled out of last week's AT&T Byron Nelson because of a left wrist injury. Spieth is still listed in the field of entries.
Patrick Cantlay
Cantlay hasn't performed great in the majors in recent seasons, which is probably why he lured caddie Joe LaCava off Tiger Woods' bag. Cantlay has just one top-five finish in 21 starts in majors as a pro. He is the highest-ranked player in the world (No. 4) without a major championship win.
Viktor Hovland
Hovland, 25, is getting more and more comfortable on the big stage. He tied for fourth at The Open at St. Andrews and for seventh at the Masters. His work on and around the greens remains a concern.
Cameron Young
Young, from Scarborough, New York, ranks third on tour in driving distance (318.2 yards). He is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory, but he had three top-10 finishes in his past four starts in majors, including a tie for seventh at the Masters.
Collin Morikawa
The two-time major champion's form hasn't been great lately; he tied for 31st at the RBC Heritage and missed the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship. He ranks 169th in strokes gained: putting (-.325) and recently changed his putting grip again.
Xander Schauffele
Schauffele spends as much time on a major championship leaderboard as the LIV Golf League's lawyers do in court. He tied for 10th at the Masters, his 16th top 25 in 23 starts in majors. He is going to finish the deal at some point.
Matt Fitzpatrick
The reigning U.S. Open champion won the RBC Heritage, and he seems to be fully recovered from a bulging disk in his neck. He tied for 10th at the Masters, his third top-10 finish in his past four starts in majors.
Justin Thomas
The two-time PGA Championship winner has looked out of sorts for a while, especially on the greens. He ranks 138th in strokes gained: putting (-.166) and 118th in driving accuracy (57.9%). If Thomas' putter gets hot, he'll be in contention again.
Homa is another player with world-class talent who hasn't yet contended in a major. He has just one top 25 in 13 starts in majors as a pro. Homa is going to turn it around sooner rather than later.
Hideki Matsuyama
The 2021 Masters winner hasn't finished in the top 10 at the PGA Championship since tying for fifth in 2017. After battling neck and back injuries, he has had a good stretch lately, finishing fifth at the Players Championship and tying for 16th at the Masters.
Burns, who picked up his fifth PGA Tour win at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, is still searching for a breakthrough at a major. He has one top 25 in nine starts as a pro.
The 2015 PGA Championship winner has been healthy and is playing well this year, including claiming his first victory in five years at last week's Byron Nelson . He is T-7 in shots gained: total (1.975) and 15th in total driving.
Cameron Smith
The reigning Open Championship winner didn't have a great showing at the Masters, tying for 34th. The Australian golfer has yet to record a top-10 finish in seven PGA Championship starts.
Tommy Fleetwood
The English golfer is still searching for his first victory in the United States. He tied for fifth at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was in the mix at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Scott missed the cut in his past two starts in the PGA Championship, but he has six top-10 finishes in 22 starts in the event. He tied for fifth at the Wells Fargo Championship and played well at the AT&T Byron Nelson. He is heating up again.
Dustin Johnson
After finishing runner-up in two straight PGA Championships, in 2019 and 2020, DJ missed the cut in the past two. He tied for 48th at the Masters and claimed his first LIV Golf 2023 victory in last week's Tulsa event.
Tier II: If everything goes right
Here are the sleeper candidates to win the PGA Championship. This tier includes a few previous major champions and a handful of players who have made comebacks this season.
Abraham Ancer
The LIV Golf League member has two straight top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship, tying for eighth in 2021 and for ninth in 2022.
Im might not hit it far enough to contend at Oak Hill; he is averaging less than 300 yards off the tee. But the South Korean golfer hits a lot of fairways and greens, and he finds ways to score well.
Talor Gooch
Gooch finished first in back-to-back LIV Golf League events, in Australia and Singapore, collecting $8 million before taxes. He tied for 20th at Southern Hills.
Oak Hill might be too long for Hoge, who ranks 136th in driving distance (294.8 yards). He tied for ninth at Southern Hills, his best finish in a major.
Kim, 20, already has won twice on tour. He tied for 16th at the Masters, his best finish in a major.
Rickie Fowler
Fowler's steady play has helped him climb back into the top 50 in the world for the first time since November 2020. He made the cut in 38 of 46 starts in majors.
Phil Mickelson
Mickelson became the oldest man to capture a major championship when he won the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, at age 50. His tie for second at the Masters proved he has something left in the tank at 52. Don't expect the PGA of America to roll out the welcome mat.
Justin Rose
Rose posted three straight top 15 finishes at the PGA Championship, placing ninth in 2020 and tying for eighth in 2021 and for 13th in 2022.
Keith Mitchell
If driving the ball well is a prerequisite for winning at Oak Hill, then Mitchell should be in good shape. He leads the tour in total driving and is fifth in shots gained: off the tee (.799).
Tyrrell Hatton
The English golfer was second at the Players, so he is more than capable of showing up on the big stage. He tied for 13th at Southern Hills.
Shane Lowry
The 2019 Open Championship winner finished in the top 10 in two of his past four starts in the PGA Championship: a tie for eighth at Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York, in 2019 and tie for fourth at Kiawah Island in 2021.
Kirk tied for fifth at Southern Hills, his best finish in a major. He picked up his fifth tour victory at the Honda Classic, a tough track, in February.
Wyndham Clark
Clark earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago. He has been one of the longest hitters off the tee on tour, and the rest of his game is coming around, too.
Keegan Bradley
Bradley, the 2011 PGA Championship winner, has cooled off a bit over the past two months. But his driving efficiency and strong wedge play could put him in the mix.
Séamus Power
Power, from Ireland, tied for ninth at the PGA Championship and tied for 12th at the U.S. Open last season. He tied for 18th at the Wells Fargo Championship after a mini-slump in March.
Adrian Meronk
The first man from Poland to play on the DP World Tour, Meronk picked up his third victory on the circuit by winning the Italian Open two weeks ago. His latest victory came at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club outside Rome, which will host the Ryder Cup in September. He is probably going to be back there while playing for Europe.
Joaquin Niemann
Niemann, who was among the highest-rated players to leave for LIV Golf, tied for 16th at the Masters, his best finish in a major championship.
Sahith Theegala
Theegala finished ninth in his first Masters start in April. He'll be making his first start at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
Patrick Reed
Outside of a tie for second at the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, Reed hasn't had much success in the event.
Gary Woodland
The 2019 U.S. Open winner had been struggling for a while, but he turned things around with a tie for 14th at both the Masters and the Wells Fargo Championship. He is among the longest hitters off the tee on tour.
Mito Pereira
Pereira had the lead going to the 72nd hole at Southern Hill and knocked his tee shot into the water. He tied for third. He'll be asked about it more than a few times this week.
Harris English
After missing much of last season with a hip injury, English tied for second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and for third at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Billy Horschel
Horschel is another talented player trying to break the ceiling at a major. He has one top-10 finish -- a tie for fourth at the 2013 U.S. Open -- in 37 such starts.
Taylor Montgomery
Montgomery cooled off after a sizzling start to his rookie season. He drives the ball well enough and is one of the best putters in the world.
Kurt Kitayama
Kitayama claimed his first tour victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, another difficult course.
Matt Kuchar
Kuchar, 44, has been playing very steady golf, with four straight top 25s after missing the cut at the Players. He had the second-lowest 36-hole score at 7 under in the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
Brian Harman
Harman's form hasn't been great lately, but he had runner-up finishes at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico and the RSM Classic earlier this season.
Russell Henley
Henley, who has quietly climbed to 28th in the world, hasn't had much success in the PGA Championship. He doesn't have a top 10 in nine starts.
Corey Conners
The Canadian golfer loves the Masters, where he has three top-10 finishes, but he has yet to produce another one in the other three majors.
Thomas Pieters
Pieters, a former University of Illinois star, is ranked 53nd in the world. Pieters will have to be in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking on May 22 or June 12 to qualify for the U.S. Open field. That will require a good outing at Oak Hill, since he isn't receiving world-ranking points for his LIV Golf League finishes.
Harold Varner III
Varner had another solid week at the Masters, tying for 29th. He is ranked 65th in the world and is in the same boat as Pieters in regard to the U.S. Open.
Tier III: Hey, miracles happen
They are the long shots. Everything would have to fall perfectly into place over 72 holes in four days for someone from this tier to win. There have been more than a few underdogs who have hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy.
Bryson DeChambeau
c Christiaan Bezuidenhout
Adam Svensson
Jimmy Walker
The 2016 PGA Championship winner has been quietly playing good golf. He tied for 15th at the Mexico Open and tied for 14th at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Sepp Straka
Brendon Todd
Casey received a special invitation from the PGA of America to compete this week. He missed last year's tournament because of a back injury, after tying for fourth the year before.
Joel Dahmen
Patrick Rodgers
Ben Griffin
The former UNC star, who walked away from the game to work as a mortgage loan officer, will be making his first start in a major.
Adam Hadwin
Lucas Herbert
Mackenzie Hughes
Kevin Kisner
Min Woo Lee
Robert MacIntyre
MacIntyre, from Scotland, had to pull out of the second round of the Italian Open, an event in which he was the defending champion, because of a back injury. He is 97th in the world and needs good results to get into contention for the Ryder Cup.
Denny McCarthy
Emiliano Grillo
Victor Perez
J.T. Poston
Maverick McNealy
Davis Riley
Riley, who matched up with Hardy to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, tied for 13th at Southern Hills.
Francesco Molinari
Nico Echavarria
Nick Taylor
Taylor Moore
The former University of Arkansas star picked up his first PGA Tour victory at the Valspar Championship. He tied for 39th in his first start at the Masters.
Webb Simpson
Scott Stallings
Danny Willett
Brendan Steele
Trey Mullinax
Tier IV: Happy to make the cut
They aren't expected to be among the contenders unless something truly magical happens, like it did for Shaun Micheel two decades ago.
Taylor Pendrith
Chez Reavie
Adri Arnaus
Mark Hubbard
Andrew Putnam
Matt Wallace
Yannik Paul
The German golfer, who played at Colorado, will make his first starts in the PGA Championship and The Open this year.
Beau Hossler
Thomas Detry
Matthew NeSmith
Nicolai Højgaard
The Danish golfer accepted special temporary membership from the PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2022-23 season. Ranked No. 107 in the world, the 22-year-old is considered a potential future star for Europe in the Ryder Cup.
Martin Kaymer
Rikuya Hoshino

2024 Masters Tournament: Scottie Scheffler leads predictions and odds for iconic golf event
The 2024 Masters Tournament is almost here. The biggest golf event of the year features dozens of the top players in the sport competing at Augusta National Golf Club over four days.
But who will win the major tournament? Last year, Jon Rahm won by four strokes over Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson. In 2024, Rahm's played well since switching to LIV Golf. Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters winner, has looked like one of the best golfers in the world so far this year. Koepka's finished second in Augusta twice; 2024 could be the year he finally breaks through.
A first-time winner's donned the green jacket in eight of the past nine years and Augusta could see another new name hoist the trophy in 2024.
Masters 2024 predictions, odds: How will Tiger Woods perform in the Masters this year?
2024 Masters Tournament predictions roundup
The augusta chronicle : scottie scheffler is the top pick.
Tyler Palmateer writes: "He’s the favorite, having won at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship in back-to-back weeks earlier this season, followed by a runner-up finish at the Houston Open. Scheffler ranks atop nearly all of the PGA Tour’s ball-striking statistical categories. Can he really keep this streak going? If he wins at Augusta National, he’d have won three of his past four starts, including The Players and Masters, with a runner-up finish squeezed in."
Golfweek : Long shot: Nick Dunlap
Adam Thompson writes: "Dunlap is just 20, he just turned pro, and first-time Masters golfers don’t win it (Fuzzy Zoeller was the last to do it, in 1979). But Dunlap is different... In his short time on the Tour, he ranks No. 1 in fewest puts, No. 2 in Par-5 Scoring and Top 10 in driving distance – all key attributes to own at Augusta. He’s had just one other Top 40 finish in six starts, so he’s a big-time dark horse, but the value is too much to pass up."
Ben Everill, PGATour.com : Xander Schauffele
Everill says: "Look, we all know Scheffler has the chance to take this tournament and run with it but my process of elimination story brought me a winner last year and I’m banking it can do it again. Schauffele is ready to contend again… and you have to be knocking on the door to eventually be let in. Back off my blacklist and into the furnace!"
DraftKings Network : Scottie Scheffler
Landon Silinsky writes: "No one on the planet right now comes close to Scheffler, and both the numbers and eye test bear that out... The talent gap between Scheffler and the field right now is approaching peak-Tiger levels. So far in 2024, Scheffler has seven top-10 finishes in eight starts, which include two wins and two additional top-three finishes across his past five. He won the Masters in 2022 in dominant fashion and followed that up with a T10 in his title defense last year. It’s hard to imagine him not sitting within two to three strokes of the lead come Sunday evening."
Chris Breece, PGATour.com : Scottie Scheffler
Breece says: "I’ll be that guy. My three finalists were him, Spieth and Schauffele. It came down to who I trusted most to win. And it’s not even close."
Will Gray, PGATour.com : Long shot: Russell Henley
Gray writes: "The former Georgia Bulldog finished T4 here a year ago and has been known to heat up on the greens from time to time. Two top-5s in his last three starts show signs of promise."
Washington Post : Long shot: Cameron Young
Matt Bonesteel says: "Young is coming off a tie for seventh at last year’s Masters, has four top-10s this year and is respectable enough on par-4s (12th in par-4 birdie or better, 31st in par-4 scoring). And while Young has yet to win on the PGA Tour, he has four top-10s in major tournaments, including a tie for eighth at last year’s British Open. A win is coming, and it could be at Augusta National."

Professional golf has seen significant change in recent years, with LIV Golf poaching PGA Tour stars in a seismic shift within the sport.
Last June, it was announced the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV Golf, were negotiating a so-called merger. However, the self-imposed Dec. 31 deadline from both groups passed without a deal, moving negotiations of the alliance into 2024, with both sides at a standstill.

In response, the PGA Tour reached a $3 billion deal with Strategic Sports Group, a partnership of several billionaire sports team owners, in a new entity called PGA Tour Enterprises, which launched Jan. 31. PGA Tour Enterprises is led by Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool FC.
As the PGA Tour and LIV Golf remain separate, their top stars will meet at Augusta National for the Masters Tournament this week, starting with Thursday's opening round.
LIV Golf boasts some of the top talent in the field, including Jon Rahm, who earned his first green jacket in 2023 before joining LIV Golf.
