Formed in Garden Grove, California, The Offspring became hugely popular during their glory days of the '90s, with their anthemic, metal-tinged punk that helped reignite interest in the genre for a new generation.

Featuring Dexter Holland (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman (lead guitar), Greg K (bass) and Pete Parada (drums), the beginnings of the band started in 1984, coming together under the moniker, Manic Subsidal. In 1986, they changed their name to The Offspring, A string of independent releases followed, with the band slowly gaining a footing in the West Coast punk scene.

Their self-titled debut appeared in 1989 to moderate success. Yet with their second record, "Ignition," The Offspring became underground favorites, finding fans of their relentless, power chord-driven punk. By 1994, fortunes were abut to change dramatically for The Offspring, with the release of their third album, "Smash." Despite being released on an independent label, "Smash" became a hit of the same name, propelling the band to stardom overnight, selling over four million records. Taking their cues from Nirvana and their quiet/loud dynamics, The Offspring found a string of singles make their way to chart success, with "Self-Esteem" and "Come Out And Play" gaining significant airplay.

Despite major labels knocking at the door, The Offspring decided to stay at the small independent, Epitaph, touring extensively thereafter across the US. After two years, the band caved and decided to join major label Columbia Records, a move that caused controversy amongst punk fans, garnering accusations of selling out. Regardless, their third album, "Ixnay on the Hombre," arrived in February 1997, a record that whilst maintaining positive critical acclaim, it failed to reach the same heights of success as "Smash."

In 1998, "Americana" attempted to regain the band's momentum, finding a hit with the pop-punk single, "Pretty Fly (for a white guy)," returning the quartet to mainstream success. "Conspiracy of One" was to be their next release, a record they threatened to offer as a free download online but their record company denied them this desire, with the record receiving a conventional release in 2000.

Three years later, The Offspring had recorded a new album of material, with "Splinter" offering a return to form. Subsequently, they embarked on international tours during which they found legions of fans across several continents. In 2005, a Greatest Hits was released, featuring new music in the single, "Can't Repeat." Their relentless touring schedule may have set new music releases back, but in 2008, they returned with "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace," displaying a hotly anticipated return to form. Still hard at work over twenty years into their career, "Days Go By" was released in 2012 displaying a more mature sound for their fans.

Live reviews

The Offspring are a pop-punk band best known for a string of hits in the 90’s that you probably heard in at least one movie soundtrack or TV show, such as “Why Don’t You Get a Job?” and “Pretty Fly for a White Guy”.

They are known for their humorous, sardonic songs and their commercial success, as they are one of the most successful pop-punk bands of all time. They might not have the credibility of more underground punk bands, but their live show is undeniably a fun and energetic experience for even the most jaded punk fan.

They tend to draw a younger crowd, consisting of a good mix of people in their 20’s and 30’s nostalgic for the good old days of the 90’s, as well as younger people who are just discovering the band. The band has been around for quite some time, especially in a genre where bands sometimes only last a year or two, so they demonstrate a streamlined, workman-like approach that can only come with many years of practice and dedication, but they also never lose touch with their somewhat juvenile sense of humor.

There is a large amount of audience interaction, even when the band is playing larger festivals, with lots of stage-diving, singing along, etc. Anyone who grew up in the 90’s or is a fan of 90’s culture should see The Offspring, if only for the nostalgia.

Absolutely amazing venue! We brought our 2 daughters (16 & 13) for their first concert. We got there early and were 6 people from the front!

Security got rid of the drunk asshole within the 1st 30 minutes of the opening act... he snuck back in and they got him again! - It was crowded and pot smoke filled the air but the vibe was chill.... Until Offspring came on stage - within 10 seconds of the 1st song a mosh pit formed - a 6'4" 275lb guy decided to get in my face and my girls started freaking out... I guess I am the mama bear type cuz I shoved right back. Protecting the girls from the pit I kept pushing.. I fell into the pit and was pulled out instantly and we rushed through the crowd to get away from the pit- both daughters crying now...Security here is amazing - they saw my girls crying and brought them waters and let them sit.. We got them calmed and enjoyed the rest of the show!

Offspring was fantastic and Sublime w/Rome phenomenal!! - Plus 1st time I ever heard the Menzingers, and they are great!!!

Pop-punk band The Offspring are known well for their satirical and tongue in cheek approach to music. They have been performing as a band since the mid-80's and really know how to work their crowd. A technically able live band, the fun aspect of their show comes out when performing early material such as 'Self Esteem' and 'Come Out and Play'.

A great festival act, they really know how to interact with their audience and the sheer sound of the music along with the crowd's cheers can draw revellers from around the site to their stage. The band are beginning to show their age yet when classic songs such as 'All I Want' begin they play like a group thirty years their junior.

Supported by a mammoth crowd who clap, cheer and fist pump at all the right moments. The atmosphere is electric throughout as the band play a career spanning set of cult hits, the finale of 'Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)' and 'The Kids Aren't Alright' receives mammoth applause and cheers and cements the group's reputation as cult icons.

The show was canceled due to protests for better living conditions in the country! Throughout the week, thousands of Chileans took to the streets to protest for improvements in health, education, transportation. Revolted by government corruption and tired of being exploited by the system.

Because of this situation, the offspring show had to be canceled

Was an amazing concert. I just wish they would've played the song I went there for. I was hoping for GONE AWAY. I lost my father a year ago and had a connection with this song. Guess I'll have to wait for five finger death punch to return to hear that song live.

Terrible. I been in shoreline multiple times and for the first time the sound was terrible.

All the speakers from the laws where off. i already have tickets for others concerts there and I'm thinking of selling them if they don't fix the sound soon.

This was my first Offspring show. It was great. I wish they would have played longer. I did have a really good time. A friend and I drove from Minneapolis to Souix Falls S.D. to see them. They do not seem to come to Minneapolis/St Paul much.

Sick show! The sound was good though the Luna park doesn't have a good acoustic. To me The Offspring is a up lifting band! So I spend the whole concert in to moshpit! So it was pretty enjoyable!

Tiger Woods makes cut at Masters, breaks all-time record with 24 consecutive cuts

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The second day of the 88th Masters was never going to be kind to Tiger Woods. It was an intersection of worst-case scenarios, with Woods having to play early and often in cold temperatures. It takes him hours to get his battered body ready to play golf, which meant an early wake-up call Friday morning to resume his first round at 7:50 a.m.

He had to play the final five holes of his opening round before arriving at the first tee to start his second. For a man who said earlier this week that “every shot that’s not on a tee box is a challenge,” 18 holes is more than enough. Especially on the hilliest course players face all year. Add in the cold and windy conditions that make it difficult to loosen up a body pieced together by screws and rods and fused joints, and it seemed that the factors had conspired against him this week.

But Friday also was an opportunity to make more history at a course he admires more than any other. Woods said earlier this week that he is here to win. That he teed it up because he believes another victory is still possible “if everything comes together.” Victories are what drive him, but they do not cause him to downplay the seemingly mundane act of just making the cut.

On Friday, he had the opportunity to establish another record cuts streak. He was seeking his 24th consecutive made cut in this tournament, a streak that would surpass the mark he shared with Gary Player and Fred Couples. Despite the unfavorable conditions and his physical limitations, Woods did so with relative ease, shooting 73-72 to finish well inside the line . He was T25 when he walked off the 18th green Friday afternoon. He promised that a needling text message would soon be sent to Couples to mark the occasion.

“It's consistency, it's longevity, and it's an understanding of how to play this golf course,” Woods said Tuesday of the record. "Now, you still have to go out and execute it, but there's a lot of knowledge that goes into understanding how to play (Augusta National). …That's the neat thing about this. I can still go through the mental Rolodex and bring out a few putts from the '90s that still move generally in that direction and the effect that Rae's Creek has on certain shots and putts. And it means a lot.”

Woods’ affection for Augusta National comes not just from the genius of Alister MacKenzie’s design, which allows him to fully utilize his creativity and shot-making skills, but also because of the course’s annual accumulation of history. This is the same place where he played his first major championship, competing in 1995 as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion. He watched from the Crow’s Nest as Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and Sam Snead hit the ceremonial tee shots. Three years later, he marveled at the fact that those three were drinking the milkshakes he had on his Champion’s Dinner menu.

“There's such an aura and mystique about playing this golf course,” he said.

He played practice rounds with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in his first Masters, and has been playing here long enough to see the likes of Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler put on the green jacket. Augusta National spans generations. Woods missed the cut in his second Masters, so this record-setting streak started with his 12-shot victory here in 1997. He has won here five times but also played through swing changes and injury and personal scandal. No matter what, he has always found a way to make the cut. For two dozen years in a row.

Tiger Woods’ 1997 victory at the Masters | 25 years later

Woods tied the record last year by slogging through torrential rains and temperatures in the 40s as he completed his suspended second round early on a Saturday morning. Woods, who would need ankle surgery weeks later, was seen limping up the hill on the par-4 17th as he finished his round.

This year, he arrived at Augusta National with just 24 holes of competitive golf under his belt.

Though he said late last year that he hoped to compete once a month in 2024, Woods only appeared at The Genesis Invitational before this week. Six holes into his second round at Riviera, he had to withdraw with the flu . His body didn’t allow him to make another start before Augusta, he said.

“Some days I just feel really good,” he said, “and other days, not so much.”

Athletes reflect on Tiger Woods’ 2019 Masters victory

His mind, and his hands, are still world class. The question each time he tees it off is whether his body will allow him to use them to their full capabilities. Woods plays the role of wily veteran these days. No longer overpowering courses with his length, he hits a sliding fade off the tee to keep his ball in play and uses a crafty short game to stay around par. He made the cut easily despite hitting less than half his greens (17 of 36).

"His short game was so good. I don't think I can explain how good some of the chip shots he hit today were," said Max Homa, who played alongside Woods. "He's special.

"We had a really quick turnaround, and if I was feeling tired and awful. I imagine he was feeling even worse," Homa added. "All the cliches you hear about him and all the old stories about how he will grind it out, it was fun to see that in person."

Woods was 1-under par when play was suspended Thursday evening . He made two bogeys on the five holes he played Friday morning, signing for a 1-over 73. He started the second round with pars on his first two holes before playing a six-hole stretch without a single par. He made birdie on the third hole, hitting a 91-yard wedge shot to 9 feet before bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5, two of the course’s most difficult holes. Then he chipped in on the par-3 sixth. He made another bogey after finding a greenside bunker on the par-4 seventh and rebounded with birdie at the par-5 eighth. Five consecutive pars followed before a bogey at the 14th hole. But he reached the green in two to birdie the par-5 15th before closing with three consecutive pars.

“I'm here,” he said. “I have a chance to win the golf tournament.”

That wouldn’t be possible without making the cut. Add another record to Woods’ remarkable Masters career.
