• Spend the day exploring the Mossman Gorge 
• A blend of walking upstream and river drifting downstream
• Wander through the rainforest on a guided Daintree National Park walk 

Kick off your day with an exciting River Drift adventure in the Mossman River, nestled in a hidden location surrounded by the rainforest. The morning begins with an interpretive walk through the river, where you’ll navigate upstream on a mix of shallow and dry riverbeds, fully immersed in the rainforest. This part of your journey on foot lets you intimately connect with the river, surrounded by dense greenery.

Next, equipped with a sturdy river sled, you’ll float through calm waters under the dense canopy before the thrill of faster currents, adding an element of excitement to your adventure.

Following lunch, your experience continues at the Mossman Gorge Visitor Centre, where the Kuku Yalanji people share their cultural insights, including a welcoming traditional smoking ceremony. The visit progresses with an Eco-Shuttle ride to Mossman Gorge for a guided 1.5-hour walk through the Daintree National Park, highlighting the unique flora and fauna. Swimming in the gorge itself offers a refreshing break.

Your day concludes with a return trip to your accommodation.

This experience is part of our Low-Footprint Adventures range because it’s ECO certified by Ecotourism Australia.

Fitness and experience.

• Cairns and Palm Cove transfers are available at additional fee $80 adult and $60 child. Payable directly to the experience provider.
• All adults must be able to swim and be confident in moving water
• Guests must have a high level of mobility and be able to walk over uneven surfaces and through moving water 
• The minimum age is five years 
• Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 
• All children aged 5-8 years must wear a PFD/Life jacket (provided) 
• Suitable for all ages in the dry season and strong swimmers in the wet season 
• Not suitable for those with limited mobility or those who are pregnant 
• All participants are required to complete a medical questionnaire and liability release form 
• Maximum weight limit is 120kg/265lb
• Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible

The whole family really loved the Kuranda train and Skyrail and we upgraded to the Gold Class on the train and Diamond View on the Skyrail. Spent lots of time in Kuranda exploring this lovely place it was great thank you

Just got off the magnificent ocean freedom machine. What a vessel, what wonderfull helpful staff. I had dived before in Tahiti 20 years ago and felt comfortable, but today I could get a grip of it and with as much help and reassurance from the staff I couldn't dive today. No matter at all as the snorkelling is amazing and the barracuda swimming around the back of the boat was truly amazing. There are 4 different places to relax and we used them all at some point during the day. Money very well spent and I would recommend this to anyone at any level of competence.

If you have a hire car, you may even drive to the nearest pick up location in Port Douglas from Cairns, as there is nothing else quite like this river drift snorkel tour anywhere else in Queensland.

You will be picked up for your river snorkelling adventure at around 9am from Port Douglas and it will only take a short drive to beautiful Mossman River where your tour starts.

River Snorkelling is a fun and safe water activity for children and adults in just about any age- children as young as 3 years are allowed to participate during the “dry” season from May to October, provided that all children wear a personal floatation device.  

During the “green” season between November to April this tour is recommended only for strong swimmers due to increased water flow and stronger currents.

Your river snorkel guides will get you ready for the adventure- wetsuits, snorkel and all safety equipment is included and all you need to bring is your swimmers, towel and a camera.

Mossman River is home for more than 30 different fish species. Lizards, birds, turtles and even an elusive platypus can all be found here.

You don’t have to worry about getting hungry during this 3 hour tour, snacks are provided to keep you in top shape during the adventure.

Once you have spent a pleasant morning in the most beautiful rainforest and crystal clear waters, you will arrive back to your Port Douglas accommodation at around 12.30pm.

This tour was designed for guests with a reasonable fitness level and with no mobility issues.

Travelling with young children?  There are water sleds that they can float on down the river if they are feeling nervous.

When the river level is low (most of the year), our activity is generally suitable for all ages (8+) and swimming abilities.

When the river level is higher, the faster flowing water is only suitable for strong swimming adults (15+) with good fitness and mobility.

This half day tour is perfect as an addition to your day if you are planning on a visit to Port Douglas and/ or Mossman Gorge.   

This tour picks up from Port Douglas and Mossman only but you can self drive to Port Douglas where you will be picked up and taken to our river drift location.   

8.40am/9.15am: Pickup Port Douglas/Mossman accommodation

9.15am - 9.20am: Drive to River Snorkelling site

9.20am - 9.35am: Get outfitted with your wetsuit and snorkeling gear; wetsuit shoes and snorkel mask

9.35am - 9.40am: Short walk through rainforest to the river

9.40am - 11.50am: Starting with a safety briefing and swimming test, spend the next 2-hours drifting along and exploring the crystal clear waters

11.50am - 12.10pm: Remove wetsuits, and safety gear. Dry off while enjoying light snacks before heading back

12.10pm - 1.00pm: Drive back through Sugar Cane country, arriving in Port Douglas/Mossman/

• Mossman: this is the closest meeting point to where our tour operates, and a great option if you’re planning to visit Mossman Gorge or travel north to the Daintree. We meet guests at George Davis Park Mossman, in front of the toilet block (under the giant trees). Pickup is approx. 20 minutes after our Port Douglas pickups
• Port Douglas: The closest pickup point from Cairns & Palm Cove. We meet guests at the Wildlife Habitat carpark.

• We don’t swim with crocs!
• You should always be Croc-wise in Croc country; that is why you can rest assured that our tour operates in a very safe, Croc-Free stretch of water.
• Crocodiles use the water, sun and shade to maintain their preferred body temperature of 30–33°C.
• Where we swim is too clear, too cold at 16-22°C, and too shaded for crocodiles.
• The cool water is one reason we provide you with a very fashionable wetsuit to use during your tour.
