17977 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal

  • Add to quote

I noticed my cruise control isn't working anymore in my 2000 GTI 1.8t. I scanned my car for trouble codes and found this code. 17977 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal P1569 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent Any ideas? My cruise control swaltch still works, becuase I am still to swith from stock to 93 octane APR programming. Thanks, Brandon http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 17977 - Cruise Control Switch (ianlee77) I'm guessing I need a new cruise control stalk, but I still have to hook it up to VAG-COM to do some testing... Anyone else have the same problem?

Re: 17977 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal (dieselgti) Mine had the same issue, dealer is changing the cut out switch on the clutch pedal system next week. Bentley shows a momentary contact switch in the clutch linkage to disable the cruise when you shift. Switch is $17.00 or so.

my cruise doesnt work, but get no error codes on VAG-COM

Re: 17977 - Cruise Control Switch (dieselgti) i had dealer replaced the stalk and that solved it. $$$

Re: 17977 - Cruise Control Switch (ianlee77) I had my stalk replaced about a year ago, so I'm thinking that it possibly was not done right.. I have this same code & my cruise control will only work for a few mins before shutting off. I guess maybe I should take it back to the place and see if they will fix it? I'm guessing since its been a year they might be reluctant to do anything for free... Anyone have any other thoughts on what could be causing it?

ok so my cruise control hasnt worked since i got this car and im ready to fix it . this is a 00 passat 2.8 auto trans. crusie does not work and the light does not come on in the dash , i have checked ecm programming to make sure it has cruise enabled .there is a code for the cruise control which is 17977 - CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH (E45) P1569 - 35 - 10 - IMPLAUSIBLE SIGNAL - INTERMITTENT i checked the code on ross tech and heres what it says 17977/P1569/005481 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal Possible Symptoms Cruise Control not working Possible Causes Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Engine Control Module (ECM) faulty/incomplete Cruise Control Switch (E45) faulty Possible Solutions Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Engine Control Module (ECM) Check/Replace Cruise Control Switch (E45) Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) Special Notes If the Cruise Control System (CCS) was retrofitted, check the Wiring to the Engine Control Module (ECM). Depending on the Make, Model and Model Year the Hardware Signal can originate from one of the following Sources: Cruise Control Switch (E45) Steering Column Control Module (J527) Central Electronics / Body Control Module (J519) ok i havent taken apart my column and checked in there but all other wires appear ok, im new to vag com and im unsure how to check mvb for the cruise control

cruise control switch e45

There isn't much to the cruise control on drive-by-wire models; it's essentially a switch, and software. 99% a new switch will fix it.

Do the brake lights work, if not, replace fuse F13.

Yes brake lights do work Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

Check the CC Switch & wiring at the brake pedal, if OK, check the switches & wiring on the indicator stalk and/or steering wheel.

The Cruise Control stopped working on the car so I had it scanned by someone with a vagcom cable and this is what the scan reported. Address 16: Steering wheel Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 BD HW: 1K0 953 549 BD Component: J0527 036 0070 Coding: 0002022 Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200 VCID: 75E1E9A31CE3BA9675-8020 Subsystem 1 - Part No: XXXXXXXXXXX Component: E0221 002 0010 1 Fault Found: 00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45) 014 - Defective According to Ross-Tech it is usually a dirty connector so I popped off the back cover for the cruise control stalk, removed the plastic assembly from the circuit board and while I didn't immediately realize that the carbon buildup on the circuit board was not normal, I did notice that one of the wires running down the stalk was cut so I took the challenge or repairing the wire and cleaning the carbon of the contacts. I decided to make a DIY out of this and this is my first ever attempt at making a walk-through guide ever and I have to appreciate the effort people put into making their DIYs because it is a very tedious process. I am simply going to post my pictures and hopefully people will be able to follow along. Once the process is completed my cruise control didn't work until I disconnected the battery terminal and re-connected it. My guess is once the fault is logged the system doesn't re-check the controller. For people with vagcom maybe you can simply clear the code and don't need to disconnect battery. I am also missing a few steps so I will summarize in point form below what needs to be done and you can use the pictures as guides. 1) Start by unlocking the steering lever at the bottom and push the steering wheel out all the way. 2) Remove the top cover by first pushing out the trim piece from the instrument cluster area and then follow up by separating the top cover from the bottom cover. 3) Remove the two screws holding the bottom cover from the column. 4) Remove the two small silver screws on the cruise control stalk. The top one is visible in the picture just above the screw holding the bottom cover. 5) Unclip the black plastic ring around the base of the cruise control stalk. It won't come out yet, just free it for now. 6) Remove the back cover of the stalk, simply unclips. 7) push out the cruise control assembly and remove the two screws to disassemble it. If your circuit board looks like mine (covered with carbon) then use a screw driver to scratch it off until the golden contacts are visible. 9) Remove the black plastic ring from step 5. 10) Now we need to free up the wires so we can easily repair them. Pull the stalk forward which will allow the base assembly to part in the middle. You can pull forward enough for the stalk to dislodge a little bit so there's enough gap in the base of the assembly. 11) Pull your wires out and repair them. I admit I did a shitty job and re-joining them but I'm content with my effort. Most people would probably use heat shrink and solder the wires but alas, like I said, contempt. Also my MAF sensor wires are re-joined at multiple points just by twisting and have been left exposed for the last 4 years and the CEL hasn't returned. 12) Now that the repair is completed run the wires back into the assembly. 13) Put back the black plastic ring and clip it in. 14) re-assembly the circuit board and plastic assembly, be sure to clean your contacts! 15) screw back the base assembly (top and bottom screws) and the back cover. 16) Now put on the bottom steering column cover and screw it back in. 17) The top cover has a semi-circular end which is suppose to click into back of the bottom cover. Pop them into position and you should be able to pivot the top cover, and then bring the top cover down and let it click back into the bottom cover and then re-insert the trim piece into the instrument cluster. At this point you should have a functioning cruise control system. I hope this DIY is helpful.

Excellent DIY instruction. I wish I saw this before I fixed mine. Mine was the blue wire. Just broke exact like yours. I think something interesting going on when VW put those parts together. Anyway. Thanks.

'09 JSW 6MT time for a new cruise control switch? VCDS thinks so...

Driving home to eastern PA from visiting the in-laws in Pittsburgh on Monday, my cruise control stopped working about 100 miles from home. Yesterday and today's morning commute, the cruise worked once and then died. I ran VCDS last night and these error codes came up... 001384 - Cruise Control Switch (E45) P0568 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00100000 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 6 Reset counter: 255 Mileage: 234187 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2000.00.00 Time: 12:09:36 Freeze Frame: RPM: 2277 /min Speed: 119.0 km/h Load: 40.8 % Speed: 118.0 km/h (no units): 255.0 (no units): 14.0 Bin. Should I replace the CC switch (the multi function switch on the left side of the steering column) or is something deeper going on here?

it seems the switch is going. you might want to operate the switch a couple times and see if that helps (we used to give the channel changer switch a couple ratchets which cleaned the contacts enough to watch more tv back in the day) I have a similar problem with the buttons on the other side, on the wiper stalk. does the cruise come back if you stop and restart the car? if so, you may decide you can live with the intermittent problem. there seems to be a bit of a process to remove the steering wheel and replace these modules. but there are videos around, and folks here who may provide advice if you are inclined to change it yourself. You also can use VCDS to check operation of the switches.

quite a few have had the CC/turn signal stalk go out. I changed out my turn signal stalk a few years ago. every time I used the right turn signal the cruise control would fault out until I turned the key off then back on. the dash indication would show ' ! ' instead of the cruise control set speed. was not too hard and wrote up a little guide that I have sent to several people who also needed to change theirs. I can forward you the PM also if your planning on changing yourself.

jetlagmech said: Here is the E-note I sent to several people. hope it helps with your steering wheel also. jetlagmech said: jetlagmech said: jetlagmech said: first tools. need a triple square for steering wheel bolt. I have the XZN-100 kit. avail on amazon but got mine thru auto parts store. I believe its called size 12. in my kit its no. 112. and need t-25 torx, type on a screwdriver handle not a tip in a socket, thats too big to fit. disconnect the battery first and touch the cables together to ensure everything is discharged, otherwise you'll get an airbag light that need VCDS to clear. steering column adjust down and all the way out. the cover behind the steering wheel use a small screwdriver to split it apart both sides close to wheel, the top piece by wheel comes up off catches then pull towards you off the catches by dash. its still connected to dash by piece of rubber sheet. just lay it up out of way. with top cover loose there are 2 torx screws now uncovered behind steering wheel you can get to by turning steering wheel and one torx screw in a recess on bottom of lower cover. after screws are out remove lower cover from around ignition switch. yes you will be putting the key in and out of switch to unlock steering wheel several times. make sure the little rubber piece from around ign switch comes out with cover and is in its slots on lower cover. didn't I tell you this was going to be longwinded !!! now your ready to remove airbag. on back side of steering wheel there are two slotted holes. easiest to get to with wheel tuned about 45 degrees. there is a metal loop in each one that has to be pried inboard toward center. I found a paint can opener worked good but it still took me 20 tries the first time to release both sides. pull the spring over and pull that edge of airbag loose a little then do the other side. the airbag fits tight and will take a little to pull it loose. there are 2 electrical connectors on airbag after it comes loose. SAFETY...set the airbag aside bag up so in case it goes off the metal mounting plate doesn't go flying. careful of static spark when going to pick it up. on installation the bag just snaps back in after hooking up the connectors. now you can see the steering wheel bolt. take it out and look for the factory marks under it to recenter your wheel on installation, mark it and slide steering wheel off. I don't have torque spec, just did it by feel on installation. now you have to pull out clockspring. to do that you have to remove the module in the way hanging on bottom of steering column. there is a little Phillips screw in front and 2 electrical connector releases, one in front and one in back. no coil of wire just solid plastic connectors. the module just comes straight down and off. the clockspring slides off now and the turn signal stalk slides out towards you. after its all back together check the wiper control before you hook up battery. after battery back in and start it have to roll all windows down and up and turn steering wheel full left and right to clear the dash lights. Now for disclaimer. I do not have Bentley manual and just did this job by looking and doing. there is probably a special tool for airbag removal. I did not mark my steering wheel and ended up removing again twice to get it centered. only took me 4 or 5 tries on airbag springs the last time . factory marks must be estimate only because they do not match on mine for steering wheel to be centered. my turn signal stalk cost me about $93 +shipping from dealer mail order. riverside VW. list price $145. good luck..... don't remember how long it took me but I was working slow and looking careful doing job. about 2 hours I think. any ?? just PM me or if during middle of job my phone is 702-712-1851 Rory good luck, its nice to have cruise control again. I was without it for 6 months. Click to expand...

TDIFred

Mine failed because the 'too short' yellow wire inside the harness broke. I got a new stalk from a wrecked Passat, $25 and two hours of my own labour and VOILA! I had a working cruise control again. Fixed another guy's when it broke too! Just remember to put the steering wheel on straight (line up the two notches).

Skoda Octavia 2009 FL cruise control retrofit

Verified VCDS User

Hi to all members I'm new on this forum. I own a Skoda Octavia 2009 ambient estate. I'm trying to retrofit the cruise control but I'm having some problems. I bought a used stalker and fitted. The car accepted the coding but the cruise control not working. I bought another used stalker, thinking that was faulty, fitted and still not working .ice installed the first stalker to another car, Skoda Octavia 2007,and is working fine.. This means that is something wrong with my car. I found two errors in the ecu : - 00895 cruise control switch e45 - check errors in S W module. I checked in meas blocks of cruise control and it seems to work when I turn it on, brake and acceleration. Also checked another car, same year, same model but with factory fitted cruise control. Have same S W module (1K... CQ-midline) same wiring in t20 connector. Found that error 00895 when retrofitting cruise control may be the wiring harness in ecu but can't find info of what to change in the wiring.. In 1 week I'll leave in holiday and will need it. If anyone could help me.. Will be highly appreciated Also I want to retrofit MFSW . Do I need extra wiring apart from the highline S W module?? Thank you

P0568 code definition

Cruise Control Set Signal Malfunction

What the P0568 code means

P0568 is an OBD-II generic code that the engine control module (ECM) or body control module (BCM) identified a voltage signal for more than 90 seconds in the cruise control on/off switch or the set coast switch depending on the vehicle design.

What causes the P0568 code?

The cruise control switch circuit is shorted to power, and is sending voltage to the BCM or ECM constantly when the key is on.

What are the symptoms of the P0568 code?

  • The Check Engine Light will not be illuminated but the code is set in ECM and/or BCM memory.
  • The cruise control will be disabled from operating.
  • The cruise control will not work.

How does a mechanic diagnose the P0568 code?

Scans codes and documents the code in the ECM and BCM, clears and verifies the code

Monitors the cruise control switch input to see if it can turn off and on

Checks the cruise control switch for a shorted switch or wiring circuit short to the ECM or BCM

Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0568 code

Not checking the cruise control on/off switch on the dash for shorts before replacing the cruise control switches on the steering wheel

Not checking the clock spring for a short before replacing the steering wheel switches

How serious is the P0568 code?

  • Code P0568 will only cause the cruise control to be disabled and will not cause any drive symptoms and this code will not turn on the Check Engine Light.

What repairs can fix the P0568 code?

  • Replacing the cruise control on off switch on the dash
  • Replacing the cruise set switches on the steering wheel
  • Repairing shorted wiring or replacing the steering clock spring if it is shorted

Additional comments for consideration regarding the P0568 code

Code P0568 will not turn on the check engine light but will set a code in memory. The only indication of the code is when the system is tested for any reason or for the cruise control not working.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
