Visit a piece of Hollywood history

The house where Texas Chainsaw Massacre was filmed was built at the turn of the century, and was originally located in Round Rock, Texas. The house held many functions over the years, as it was home to both families and students along with being featured as the movie set for a portion of the film series. It was then purchased by The Antlers Inn in 1998. 

The inn owners weren't satisfied with simply moving in and hosting guests. Instead, they decided to dismantle the entire mansion and moved it to Kingsland, Texas. In Kingsland it was renovated and The Grand Central Café was born in 2012, which is still active and open today. The style of the house is known as "Queen Anne," and the house features incredibly ornate detailing. It would have been considered very elaborate and high-class for its original time period, mostly due to its gingerbread trim and fancy roofing. Even today it still looks impressive and is a fun part of both movie and architectural history.

According to the Grand Central Café's official website, you can come visit the house Wednesday-Saturday, 8am-2pm and 5pm-9pm. It is also open for a half-day on Sundays from 8am-2pm. Feel free to take photos, and around Halloween time, there are plenty of movie-inspired decorations to enjoy. The house is located at 1010 King Court, Kingsland, TX 78639.

Taking a movie house road trip

There's another famous "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" house you can visit, located in Granger, Texas. Unfortunately, the owners of this home aren't as welcoming as the café owners in Kingsland, so you'll have to take your photos from a distance. However, it is located in an open field well within view of the road. But take caution. According to Roadside America , the property has surveillance cameras and no trespassing signs, so be on your best behavior if you pay the house a visit. Don't immediately recognize this secondary house? You might need to dig deeper into the film series. It's featured in the 2003 remake, as well as its 2006 prequel.

This was the house used in the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. When filming took place, the house was originally in Round Rock, Texas. In 1988, the house was moved to its current location. All of the locations reside in the heart of the central Texas Hill country.  This part of Texas is widely known as the most beautiful and visually stunning areas in all of Texas. The house now operates as the Grand Central Cafe.

Pretty awesome! Watched the movie trailer, def same house. Got there during the night when it was closed but pretty erie regardless. Apparently it's some sort of cafe now... Entrance reads "Grand Central Cafe". We had to look for the house, it's not clearly marked. Drive straight through the entrance and you'll see it on the left with a parking lot to pull into.

Wow! This place was great. We r already planning our 2nd trip here. We suggest getting the whiskey shrimp dip! It's worth the trip alone! Great burgers! Bigger than ur head.

Oh HELL YES! This was one of my favorite places to visit on my latest trip to Texas. I had lunch here in September 2014 with my 11-month-old son and it was INCREDIBLE! I got the bacon burger and a Leatherface Lemonade (basically lemonade with whiskey).

The house is exactly like it looks in the movie except for all the corpses and taxidermies animals. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorite horror movies and actually one of my favorite movies period, so I was super giddy to have the chance to visit.

The house was filmed in Round Rock, Texas, but then moved here in Kingsland in 1988. It's a historic house, famous not just for being in the movie. The waitstaff sadly had never watched the film, but they let me take so many pictures and even took some pics of me and my little boy.

HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend eating here. The food was seriously awesome. One of the best burgers ever. And the fries were fresh-cut and super good too. I can't wait to go back!!!!

It has a "Grand Central Cafe" sign hanging off the house but it is still clearly the one from the original movie. The Cafe wasn't open when I went apparently it is only open Wednesdays through Sundays but the outside looks just like the movie and I'm glad I stopped.

Place is awesome!! bartender Bob is a great guy and takes care of service members and everyone else. The house itself is great, and looks good. Great spot to stop have a drink and eat. All around awesome and good costumer service.

The house was built in the early 1900s. It has a Queen Anne-style structure. It has six bedrooms and a dining room. It also has a bar and a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The restaurant does not take reservations.

The house originally belonged to the family of Leonard Frisk. He built it for his son, Tony. It was overgrown with trees and plants but was eventually moved to its current location. In the movie, Leatherface's family hung human victims on meat hooks.

The Antlers Hotel and Resort bought the house in 1998. The house has since been restored and is now a restaurant. The sign at the front of the house reads "Rest in Peace" and "No Trespassing." The house has security cameras. It is not a safe place to go, however.

The house has attracted people worldwide, including in Sweden, France, and Italy. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner. The home also hosts horror movie sleepovers, including board games and barbecue dinners. Guests must be 21 or older to attend. The sleepovers include "horror" games and video games.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was initially filmed in Round Rock, Texas. In the movie, Leatherface first appears in the doorway. Later, the evil villain lurks in a quaint cottage in Round Rock.

In the heart of Texas, where legends of cowboys and oil barons have been spun, there exists a story that’s not for the faint of heart. It’s a tale of a house with a sinister history, a house that was at the center of one of the most iconic horror movies ever made: “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” But what many might not know is that this eerie abode had a journey of its own, a move from its original location in Round Rock.

First, let’s set the scene. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, released in 1974, became a cult classic in the horror genre. This iconic film stands as a testament to the enduring power of terror and suspense. But what many fans might not know is that this nightmare-inducing classic was not filmed in the remote Texan wilderness it portrays, but rather right here in Round Rock. 

Remember the unforgettable scene where Leatherface, brandishing his chainsaw, stands alone in the middle of a dirt road? That’s Old Country Road 172, played a pivotal role in the film’s chilling climax. But Round Rock’s evolution over the past 50 years has dramatically changed its appearance.

Eat Your Heart Out: Inside THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE House

The house from Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been through a lot of changes over the years, but there are some things that haven’t changed about the old place. Cooking and consumption still take place on the property, but human meat is not on the menu.

Today, the house is now the Grand Central Café and Club Car Bar, situated next to The Antlers Inn in Kingsland, Texas. The café serves more traditional cuisine—breakfast, soup, burgers, etc.—and is situated next to the picturesque Lake Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ), and the house and surrounding area are a beautiful sight. And if Franklin, Sally, and company stopped on the premises looking for gas, they would surely get a much friendlier welcome than they received from the Sawyer family.

The house is one of the most iconic horror movie locations ever, and the real history of the house is just as intriguing as its cinematic past. Find out about the origins of the house, the supernatural occurrences, and why there is still a “buzz” about the place after all these years.

Moving house

Built in the early 1900s, the Victorian house was originally situated in Williamson County (now Round Rock), roughly 65 miles away from its current location, before being acquired by The Antlers Inn in 1998. Dana Strong (who is currently the bookkeeper but has worked in a variety of roles) has worked at the site for many years. She talks about how the house was moved and its subsequent changes. ‘‘It was transported in six or seven different pieces, because a house this size couldn’t be moved as one. The bar was added four or five years ago along with the outdoor seating, but the rest of it was moved from Round Rock and put back together.”

This Victorian house has been home to Grand Central Café since 2012, and this year it celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The house wasn’t just purchased because it was one of horror’s most iconic settings. As Dana mentions, “It was just a lovely house that they [the then owners] wanted.”

There is a strong railroad theme running through both the restaurant and neighbouring hotel—the restaurant is named after the New York train station, the adjoining bar is entitled Club Car Bar, and during the early 1900s the area was the site of a train depot and track. Despite all these homages to the railroad and its heritage, the restaurant is remembered more for the chain than the train.

Dana explains, “The owners have a railroad theme in this house. They wanted to recreate Grand Central Station, but the train theme doesn’t beat the Chain Saw Massacre because people are just so ‘let me see!’”

The restaurant and hotel are surrounded by Lake Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ), a man-made body of water that stretches 21 miles long. Dana talks with pride about the area, “We have the small peaceful areas around the lakes, and you’re just a short distance from Austin and San Antonio. So we’re in a convenient place, but you still have the country feel.”

Haunted house

Even though the scary scenes depicted in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre were fictional, some other scary events at the house were not. The house has been home to a couple of ghost sightings, something that Dana happily discusses.

“The ghosts in here are real. I was head chef for six years and I would come in about five or six o’clock in the morning to get breakfast ready and the first thing that got me was the sound of little kids running upstairs or just bouncing a ball back and forth to each other. And I was like, ‘Okay, y’all aren’t bothering me; I’m not gonna bother y’all.’”

“But, one day, they were really active—I was facing the oven and I hear this sheet pan paper rustling. I turned around and one sheet after another is coming out like it’s being pulled by someone and they’re just falling to the floor.”

However, Dana had a strong feeling that this was more than her just hearing things or a strong gust of wind. Previously, a psychic had visited the house to see if there was a supernatural presence, and what they discovered allowed Dana to reach out.

“The psychic said that there’s a very friendly spirit here and her name is Julia, and she is happy. So [during the supernatural activity in the kitchen], I said, ‘Julia, I do not have time for you to mess with me this morning, so leave me alone so I can do my job.’ And it quit.” Dana adds, “We have had customers see it, too.”

Julia isn’t the only figure who has made their presence known inside the house.

“Once a customer came in,” Dana recalls, “and Rick, the owner, noticed they had this look on their face, so he looked up to see what they were looking at and there was what looked like a spirit in a long black dress with a veil who came down and disappeared.”

The Chain(sawyer) family home

Even though the house has been renovated and relocated, it is still recognisable as the Sawyer family home, and it is easy to place yourself within the key scenes of the film.

And if diners don’t recognise the house based on the layout, a life-size replica of Grandpa sitting upstairs will make them start asking questions. Grandpa even gave Dana a fright when he first arrived.

“I didn’t know someone put him up here, so I came upstairs to get something, and I saw him and oh my word—I about jumped out of my skin.”

A Buzz in the b ar

The newest addition to the house is the Club Car Bar, which opened in 2017.

The upstairs of the house, where Grandpa lives, was originally the bar, but a new location was needed to handle increasing numbers, so a safer downstairs location was established.

The bar is the most Chain Saw Massacre -themed room in the building. As soon as guests walk into the bar from the restaurant, they would see a life-size Leatherface opposite them.

Behind Leatherface is a mini makeshift shop featuring souvenirs such as t-shirts and shot glasses. “Leatherface Lemonade” is available on the menu, posters decorate the wall, and a cut-out of Leatherface sits on the far side of the bar. However, some visitors still don’t realise where they are. Dana explains, “We get a lot of, ‘Wow, y’all are really into this.’ And I will say, ‘Well, this is where it [ The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ] was originally filmed.’ ‘What!?’ People are really shocked. It’s a lot of fun, though.”

However, there are plenty of visitors who know how significant the house is, and they don’t just visit for the picturesque surroundings. When asked how many people visit because of the restaurant’s horror history, Dana replies, “A lot. We’ve recently had people from Germany, Australia, and France. It’s that way constantly.” She continues, “One thing we do every several years is have a big screen put outside with seating in the courtyard and they will show the original Chain Saw Massacre .”

Some visitors treat the place as a pilgrimage, stopping quickly to look around and take pictures before visiting another haunted or horror-related location. One potential stop is the filling station where Drayton Sawyer worked. The station is a shrine to the movie and located southeast of Austin, 90 miles away from Grand Central Café.

In December 2021, the house was opened up for the “coolest slumber party ever.” Guests could stay overnight and sleep anywhere they liked in the house and watch any, or all, of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre movies. Visitors were all given a guided tour of the house and were, of course, served a BBQ dinner.

On the wall of the bar are signed and framed pictures of the original cast, who have revisited the house since filming in 1973. Dana explains, “About six years ago the original cast visited as part of a tour with the cast of the remake. That was really neat.”

As Dana explains, fans aren’t the only ones who visit for the Chain Saw Massacre experience. “We have local business that have their conferences and annual meetings here who want to go along with the theme of the house.”

Despite all the models, memorabilia, and gifts in the house and bar, the menu (apart from the drinks) isn’t tied to the movie. In fact, beef or ribs aren’t even the most popular dish, chicken fried steak is. Although Dana implies that it isn’t just animal meat they store, she jokes, “I’ve told people not to look in the walk-in [refrigerator], but it is all real beef.”

Even after all this time, the house is still thriving and is alive and well with a new lease on life. This is much like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise—a new installment of the franchise drops on Netflix on Friday, February 18th, 2022. The new movie sees Leatherface in action several decades after the events of the first movie. While not everything is known about the 2022 movie, Tamika Jones, Scott Drebit, and Jonathan James discuss one of the most anticipated genre films of the year in a recent episode of Corpse Club , and you can take your own road trip to Kingsland, Texas, to visit the house where Hooper, Hansen, Marilyn Burns, and the rest of a very dedicated cast and crew sliced their way into horror history forever.

Nancy’s House is one of the maps in the game, and is just as intricately designed as the rest. The home of Black Nancy herself, this wide and multi-level map is rife with torture spots. Here is what you need to know about the exits for Nancy’s House, along with possible spawn locations for key items like the fuse.

The main exit from Nancy's House is the one that leads out from the driveway . There is automatically a lock on the gate here. There are several fields of sunflowers and tall grass where Victims can hide.

There are two ways to reach the driveway exit. Victims can make their way through the main house to the upper level , but will have to unlock the front door.

Secondly, there is an electrified cattle grid on the driveway ramp down to the back yard. Victims can turn off the generator in the yard in order to run up the ramp to reach the main road gate.

The generator will spawn in the yard near the Cactus Gulch . It will be on one side or the other of a wooden bridge.

On the opposite side of the map is the rear gate exit . This exit requires a car battery to be turned off , and the rear gate also to be unlocked .

Victims will need to make their way through the Barn area to get the the Barn Thicket, where several cars are located.

Before crossing through the Barn, Victims will need to quietly unlock the fence gate . Alternatively, there is also a metal door than can be unlocked.

The metal door is much more exposed to the yard, and makes more noise to open.

Another way to escape from Nancy's House is through the fuse box exit. This door will be found in the basement, down in the Pump Room.

Of course, this exit requires finding a fuse , opening a fuse box , and solving the puzzle to supply enough voltage to power the door.

These are the usual spawn locations where you can find a Fuse at Nancy's House:

The fuse will need to be put into the fuse box next. Here are the four possible spawn locations for the fuse box itself on the Nancy's House map:

Another possible exit from Nancy's House is through the pressure valve exit gate. This exit is l ocated in the backyard of the property, close to the Workshop and Barn.

To open this exit, a valve handle will need to be attached to a water pressure tank. Then, after pressure builds up, the gate will open for a short period of time.

If you play as one of the Victims , you'll probably have a slightly easier time on this map than others. With the exits spaced far apart , it will be more difficult for the Family to patrol them as easily.

If you want to escape from Nancy's House , here are some tips to keep in mind:

• Make sure to have an unlock tool for the various locks all throughout the map, especially with the main and rear gate both being locked.
• Following that, Connie is a great Victim to play on this map, since her Focused ability allows her to easily break locks.
• If you need to hide near the main road exit , try the tall grass near the shack instead of the sunflower field.
• Familiarize yourself with wall gaps and crawl spaces , so you know where to go if you need to escape a chase .
• Be aggressive and stab Grandpa if he is leveling up too quickly.
• Teamwork makes the dream work! Communicate with your teammates , especially if you want to attempt to escape through the pressure valve or fuse box exit. One brave Victim can activate that exit while another waits closer to it.

If you play as a member of the Family , you'll want to make the most use of your time before the Victims escape the basement . If not, it could go downhill a lot quicker.

Here are some tips to keep in mind to catch and kill Victims at Nancy's House:

• Set up as many traps as you can before Victims escape the basement.
• Unlike other maps, it will be harder to tell which basement door was opened early on because of how wide the map is. Always check on the Garden Storage basement door, since it is close to the generator.
• Cook is almost an essential pick for the Nancy's House map. His extra locks can really help hinder Victims at the front and back gates.
• There are a few different places where Grandpa can spawn , but he's usually near the Back Porch or Johnny's Shack.
• For example, if everyone rushes to the main road exit because a Victim was seen, that leaves the rear gate unguarded for a long time.
