Sapphire Princess dining room menu in 2023 for dinner food

So, what’s the Sapphire Princess dining menu like?!

I was on the Sapphire Princess in 2023, and I got screenshots of the main dining room menu. This is below!

sapphire princess dining menu. main dining room dinner menu on sapphire princess cruise ship

In general on a cruise, you will get free food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

There are “ specialty restaurants ” on Princess cruise ships for which there is an added fee.

The specialty dining options on the Sapphire Princess are Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, Sterling Steakhouse, Chef’s Table Experience, Vines Wine Bar, and Ultimate Balcony Dining.

See the updated list at princess.com under “specialty dining” section of the Sapphire Princess cruise ship info .

There is a “ juice bar ” for extra health and wellness drinks for which there is an added fee.

But there are always free food options for every meal, plus snacks in between meals.

You can get pizza any time , and you can get ice cream any time during the day for free.

There are “ premium desserts ” on Princess cruise ships for which there is an added fee.

But there are always free dessert options, both in the main dining room and in the buffet.

There are also many other food choices that you can get almost any time throughout the day too.

Like all Princess cruise ships, there is a buffet on the Sapphire Princess.

You can eat at the buffet during your time on the Sapphire Princess for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is free.

You can also go to one of the main dining rooms on the Sapphire Princess for dinner. This is free.

There are some “specialty” items in the dining room as well for which there is a fee, but it’s not necessary to pay for regular dinner food.

You can also go to at least one of the dining rooms for breakfast and lunch. This is free.

Lunch in dining room might only be available on sea days.

You can even get a light breakfast sent directly to your room for free by ordering room service for breakfast the night before.

See below for a day-by-day dinner menu on the Sapphire Princess!

Also below is how to see the dinner menu once you are on your cruise.

  • Just in case: Rain poncho for a day out and about

Food on the Sapphire Princess

Food on the Sapphire Princess may vary.

But just to give you an idea, here is the dinner menu from the main dining room dinner on my cruise when I was on the Sapphire Princess, day by day!

I did an Alaska cruise on the Sapphire Princess in April and May 2023.

When you go to the dining room for dinner and receive the menu, local cuisine is also marked as “local eats flavors” so look for a special symbol for that too!

Below are screenshots from the Princess app.

How to see the Sapphire Princess dinner menu on your cruise

You’ll be able to see the dinner menu once you are on your cruise.

You can use the Princess app to see the menu for that evening.

The Princess app is how you will choose your cruise boarding time and look for cruise entertainment.

The Princess app is also how you can make reservations in one of the main dining rooms.

You can make reservations before you get on the cruise ship.

If you’re making dining reservations far in advance, you’ll want to check back once it gets closer to your cruise (and once you are on your cruise) to see that your dining time hasn’t changed.

Sometimes they will change it on you, and you won’t be notified about the change.

Once you are on the cruise ship, you can also use the TV in your room to see the dinner menu.

Once you are on your cruise ship, you can also go down to the dining room and see the menu for that evening posted out in front.

And that’s to give you an idea of what type of food might be on the Sapphire Princess!

I was on the Sapphire Princess in April and May 2023. Your experience may vary!

Princess cruise dining FAQ

sapphire princess cruise menu

Is food on Princess Cruises included?

Sit-down meals in the main dining room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, are always included on a Princess cruise, and the menu varies somewhat daily. Also included is a buffet, either called World Fresh Marketplace or Horizon Court, depending on the ship, as well as fast casual and grab-and-go spots on board that serve pizza, tacos, burgers, pastries and ice cream.

Specialty restaurants including Crown Grill, Princess's steak and seafood house, and Sabatini's, the signature Italian restaurant, require a surcharge that's priced at a flat rate per adult or child; some menu items also require an additional surcharge no matter the age of the guest.

Are drinks included on Princess cruise ships?

Select beverages are always included: iced tea, hot tea, brewed coffee, hot chocolate, milk, fruit juice, lemonade and tap water. Everything else, including soft drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, spirits and specialty coffees, must either be purchased a la carte or through one of the cruise line's beverage packages .

Do I need reservations?

Reservations are encouraged for the main dining room and the specialty restaurants, and it's best to make them as early as possible ; walk-in parties will be accommodated on a space-available basis. Guests can make reservations via the Princess MedallionClass app or at guest services once you're on board. If you wish to eat at the same time every night, you can do so by reserving your tables in advance.

Platinum and Elite Captain's Circle members have early access to reservations. Passengers booked in a Full Suite or Reserve Collection Mini-Suite don't need to make dining reservations as they will always be accommodated; they also have access to a dedicated space in the main dining room with expedited seating and an expanded menu.

Does Princess Cruises have an evening dress code?

"Smart casual" attire will be appropriate for the main dining room, buffet and fast-casual restaurants. You might want to pack something dressier for the specialty restaurants or one of the more upscale dining experiences like Chef's Table, 360 or a winemaker dinner.

On sailings that are five nights or longer, there will be one or more formal nights, which do require adhering to a dress code in the dining venues . Cocktail dresses, evening gowns or dressy pantsuits are appropriate for women, while dark suits, tuxedos or dinner jackets and slacks are required for men , along with dressy footwear. If you don't want to dress up or forgot appropriate attire, you're welcome to dine at the buffet or any of the other casual dining options on board during formal night.

Is there assigned seating in the main dining room?

There is currently no assigned seating at any dining venues on board Princess ships; however, that is changing for cruises departing on or after September 14. For those sailings, guests can choose between traditional seating (with assigned dining times, tables, tablemates and waiters in the main dining room) or flexible seating. Within flexible seating, passengers can either make reservations to dine at a specific time on any given night or walk in when they're hungry to access the first available table.

Until September, Princess will not offer assigned seating, and guests can choose to make reservations or not for the main dining room. If you are a solo diner or part of a couple or small group, your host might ask if you would like to sit with another party of a similar size in the main dining room; the choice is up to you.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

You can use the Cruise Personalizer to indicate your dietary preferences, including requests for low-sodium, low-fat, low-sugar and vegetarian diets. Kosher meals and baby food are available with advanced written requests. If you have allergies or medical needs related to food, you must inform Princess in writing — check the line's website for more details. Princess Cruises also recently introduced a series of vegan menus for dinner in the main dining room, including starters, soups, salads, pastas and main dishes.

Where can I get snacks on board?

sapphire princess cruise menu

You'll find lots of spots to grab a quick bite, dessert or coffee, including Coffee & Cones, Patisserie, Swirls Ice Cream Bar, The Pastry Shop, International Cafe and Gelateria — options vary depending on the ship. Food at these venues is included, but there is a charge for specialty coffees and teas unless you have a beverage package.

Is room service included on Princess Cruises?

Guests can use the designated button on their cabin's phone to order room service 24 hours a day; each order incurs a $5 delivery fee, which is waived for those with Princess Plus or Princess Premier status.

You can also use the OceanNow feature in the Princess Medallion Class app to order food to be delivered to your cabin or anywhere else on the ship, like the pool deck. This feature is included with Princess Plus and Princess Premium; otherwise, there is a one-time access fee of $14.99 per person per voyage and a $5 delivery fee per order. Food and beverage surcharges may apply for some items ordered via room service.

Princess Cruises Menus with Photos

Sharing is caring!

Are you going on a Princess Cruise? If so, you know that one of the best parts of cruising is the cruise food.

We’ve recently disembarked from a great cruise on the Regal Princess , and I thought I’d share the main dining room menus (main dishes, appetizers and desserts) with you. While the order of the nightly menus may be different, it’s likely that you’ll see these menus and food choices on your upcoming Princess Cruise.

I’ve included photos of the dishes we ordered as well, just to whet your appetite.

If you’re cruising with Princess, here is a Princess Cruises packing list that you can use:  Princess Cruises Packing List 2022

Princess Main Dining Room – Things to Know

Dine my way.

Cruising in 2022 has changed, and this includes the main dining room experience on Princess Cruises . While in the past Princess had “traditional dining” and “Anytime Dining”, this has been replaced with “Dine My Way”.

You can now reserve your dining times in advance on the Medallion Class app as you get ready for your cruise. Please note, if you’re in Club Class , you don’t need to make a reservation.

In our experience, you could also just show up at the main dining room (in our case Concerto) and be seated without an advanced reservation as well, although there could be a wait time.

Princess Favorites

In addition to nightly menu options, there are Princess Favorites that are always available. We did see some changes from past Princess Favorites. One classic that remains is the famous Fettuccine Alfredo.

Order as Much as You Want

If you are interested in more than one appetizer, or want to try 2 main dishes, go for it! In our experience, the waiters were very accommodating and would even offer to add a lobster tail to our steak dinner one night when we were undecided between 2 delicious options.

Quality meats boasting bold South American flavors are cooked to perfection in the tasty tradition of grilling churrasco style. Then our servers present these flavorful cuts on vertical skewers — and hand-carve them right onto your plate. Filet mignon, barbecued pork ribs, leg of lamb ... enjoy them all. Connect, sip Brazilian-inspired cocktails and get ready for a meal you’ll savor.

Several people on the current Sapphire propulsion thread have commented the new restaurant was sprung on cruisers with no notice who had booked specialty dining at Sterling Steakhouse. It's in the same buffet location as Sterling Steakhouse apparently. Haven't seen any menus yet as the focus of that thread is the itinerary issues.

Yes, I noticed that thread but haven't read everything. Sapphire is the ship scheduled for Antarctica cruises starting in December. A little concerning, but I can't do much about that. But a cruiser has to eat... 🙂

Agreed 🙂   I was just chiming in that several people had noted the restaurant was in fact open already (not 'coming soon') but given the other issues nobody had commented on the menu.  Hopefully when the repair issues get resolved we'll get more run of the mill cruise feedback.  We board the Sapphire soon so I'm anxiously following along to see how it will all impact our trip.

My ressies have been switched to the Brazilian restaurant from sterling steakhouse. Ugh. We just went last month to one of these for my bday. I wanted more of a fine dining experience being it is our 39th anniversary. Crud.

Sterling steakhouse was in the buffet area?

2 minutes ago, dizgal64 said: Sterling steakhouse was in the buffet area?

Yep. It was in a portion of the buffet. If you look at deck plans you will not find a separate dining room for them

Man if I would have known that I’d just eat in the MDR. Much quieter I’m sure. But now I’ll never get a reservation there. Idk. So, so many things have happened with our cruise planning, it’s been a nightmare. And now propulsion issues? Second cruise with princess and I believe it will be our last. We’ve been with 3 other cruise lines and they were much better. Ugh.

You don't need reservations for the MDR. Walk-ups are happily accommodated, possibly with a short wait, depending on dining time..

Sterling Steakhouse is/was a portion of the buffet. Back corner. Screened off and setup with white linens, flowers, table service, etc just like CG.  While yes, buffet area, it didn't really feel like it and it was somewhat screened off an private - no doubt the new venue is similar in setup..

Instead - for a truly memorable and amazing intimate romantic anniversary meal - consider the Ultimate Balcony Dinner.

$110 total for two. Includes a four course meal served course by course, with filet and lobster, welcome cocktail, half bottle champagne, flowers you keep and a photo you keep. It's amazing, delicious, paced really well, the staff is usually quite unobtrusive and anticipatory. So much more special and intimate than banquet dining in MDR or specialty - and minimal extra cost, particularly with the included drinks and keepsakes..

Happy anniversary and enjoy.

Thank you for the idea. But we are with family, another couple and their first cruise so wanted it special. It’s ok. Now reservations are the least of my concern with a ship that needs help. Haha

I recently experienced a Brazilian Dinner in Hawaii for $79 per person.  I would not do this again.  I can't say how it is on a ship, but I would never eat my way through the cost to break even.  The food was good.  The experience was one and done.  I have heard that the Sterling Steakhouse was much better than the Crown Grill.  Too bad Princess decided on this change.

Same here - and I'd never have known if I hadn't read about it on the Sapphire propulsion thread. We had 2 Sterling reservations for our 6/8 sailing - not a fan of churrascaria at all and there were comments somewhere about sides and salads being at the buffet - WHAT?! I'll probably end up canceling the reservations once on board but do want to check the menu first. But then again who knows if my cruise will even be sailing at this rate! Kind of annoying they didn't notify people with existing Sterling reservations of the change.

Didn’t you know the steak house was just a cordoned off portion of the buffet with tablecloths ?  That ship has never had a stand alone steak house

Yep I sure did! We typically sail Royal class ships and love the Crown Grill concept there. While obviously a cordoned off area at the back of the buffet doesn't have the same ambiance, we wanted to give Sterling a try on Sapphire since it's the same menu, and being we will be in Alaska, we looked at the large windows as being a positive in spite of the less than perfect location. In addition to that, it's only 1 of 2 specialty dining options on board so we couldn't afford to be too picky.

My comments were expressing my disappointment in booking the Sterling Steakhouse and it switching to an entirely different restaurant concept without any communication from Princess about the change.

I'm happy with the change. I've heard about cruise ship steaks being mostly subpar and a cordoned off area of buffet seating seems pretty cheesy to me. Besides, I can cook a delicious steak on my Traeger at home whenever but I can't have 5 different cooked meats brought to me tableside at home. I'll go with an open mind. And FWIW I'm on Sapphire 6/1 and expect her to be running full steam by then.

I doubt the sides and salads are at the same buffet the common people use.

Haha

Yes, it is. People on the Diamond reported it in this forum. The waiters get the sides just from Horizon Court galley. And so is the beef.

Sharing a kitchen makes sense, don't ya think? But that is much different than sharing a buffet line.

Without alternative up there on Lido deck, that's for sure. But several people in this forum reported chaos and they got their sides after they finished the main (Diamond). Waiters walkways too long maybe. Even if they do not stand in the lines.

I didn't notice any chaos in the pictures. Or lines. I think likely there is a learning curve on something that just started.

There certainly seems to be resentment by some on the change, perhaps coupled with the propulsion issues. The Lido location is the same as what the steakhouse had, common kitchen and all

Personally, I like the looks of the menu and am looking forward to trying.

PRINCESS CRUISES – SAPPHIRE PRINCESS: WHERE TO EAT

Hello my lovely readers!

I sailed on the beautiful Sapphire Princess just after its refurbishment was completed back in 2018 and I cannot believe how long it took me to get this post out!

But it is finally here. There are plenty of public areas, restaurants, pools and more on the Sapphire Princess that I want to highlight and talk about. Therefore, I am breaking up the ship tour into several posts, starting with the eating venues and restaurants to give you an idea of where to eat.

Please be aware though that the prices and opening times are based on the cruise I took back in October 2018. Therefore they may be subject to change.

Let’s dive right in and start with the dining options that are included in your cruise fare, free of charge to you.

sapphire princess cruise menu

DINING OPTIONS INCLUDED IN CRUISE FARE

Anytime dining.

On the Sapphire Princess anytime dining is offered between 5:30 pm and 9.30 pm everyday in four different dining venues. This means guests have the freedom to eat between that set time whenever they want in one of those venues and with whom they want. These four venues are:

The Vivaldi Dining Room

sapphire princess cruise menu

The Savoy Dining Room

sapphire princess cruise menu

The Pacific Moon Dining Room

sapphire princess cruise menu

The Santa Fe Dining Room

sapphire princess cruise menu

I really liked the idea of having different dining venues to chose from. They are all unique and differently themed. If one was a bit more popular than another one and you did not want to queue up, you could just go to one of the other three venues. The dinner menu is the same in all four restaurants.

  • Location: Vivaldi & Savoy Dining Rooms are on deck 5 – Plaza, Midship and Pacific Moon & Santa Fe Dining Rooms are on deck 6 – Fiesta, Midship
  • Opening Time: 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm
  • International Dining Room

The other evening dining option, apart from eating in the Horizon Court Buffet, is traditional dining, better known as fixed time dining. This means that everyday you are going to eat in the same venue, at the same time, with the same people and get served by the same waitstaff. There are two seatings, one early and one late for dinner.

You can also enjoy breakfast and lunch in the International Dining Room, which you will need to order and that will be served to your table. This option is available to all guests. The International Dining Room is basically a restaurant with table service for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I wish I had pictures of this venue, but unfortunately I do not. The room was closed when I went around the ship on the last day to take pictures of all the venues, spaces, pools and so on.

  • Location: Deck 6 – Fiesta, Aft
  • Opening Time: Breakfast 7 am to 9 am, Lunch 12 pm to 1:30 pm, Dinner 5:45 pm and 8:15 pm (1st and 2nd Seating)
  • Alfredo’s Pizzeria

Next up we have Alfredo’s Pizzeria, where I personally ate a few times. This is like a little pizza restaurant next to the atrium and a really nice setting. The pizzas are freshly prepared every single day and if you fancy you can even watch the chef preparing and making your pizza due to the open kitchen design.

sapphire princess cruise menu

  • Location: Deck 5 – Plaza, Midship
  • Opening Time: 11 am to 10 pm
  • International Café

If you fancy a little nibble or are peckish between meals, you can come to the International Café on deck 5 – Plaza, which is open 24/7. Depending on the time of the day, different nibbles, snacks, soups, treats and desserts are served.

In the morning you will find a continental breakfast selection, for lunch you can expect to find a variety of sandwiches, quiches, salads and even soup and at night you can indulge in some of the super tasty desserts Princess Cruises offers.

sapphire princess cruise menu

  • Opening Time: 24 Hours
  • Horizon Court

Horizon Court is the main eating venue and is setup as a buffet throughout the day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between meals guests can also find a selection of sandwiches, cookies and tasty desserts.

On some days, lunch can have a theme. For example, during my sailing we had a German themed lunch with Sauerkraut, Leberkaese and so on. On another day “Sushi” was prepared as part of the buffet selection.

The buffet was a bit smaller than on other ships of its size that I have been on, but nonetheless there was still enough choice and a variety of selection.

sapphire princess cruise menu

  • Location: Deck 14 – Lido, Aft
  • Opening Times: Continental Breakfast 5 am to 6 am, Breakfast 6 am to 11.30 am, Lunch 11.30 am to 3 pm, Light Snack 3 pm to 5.30 pm, Dinner 5.30 pm to 10.30 pm

Prego Pizzeria, Trident Grill and Swirls

Also on deck 14 – Lido, there are three more eateries around the Neptune’s Reef and Pool to grab a quick and more fast food style bite.

At Prego Pizzeria you can grab a few pizza slices such as Pizza Margherita or Pepperoni, something very simple. If you fancy a more special pizza with a few more toppings, you really need to go to Alfredo’s Pizzeria.

The Trident Grill is on the other side of Prego Pizzeria and offers burgers, fries and hot dogs. Both venues are really great if you fancy a quick bite, are too lazy to go to the buffet and have kids.

Also, on the same deck is Swirls. Here you can get some ice cream, prefect during those hot weather sailings. I went there often after coming back from land to cool down, while enjoying a tasty treat at the same time. At an additional cost, people can also order sundaes from Swirls if they prefer something more indulgent.

sapphire princess cruise menu

  • Location: Deck 14 Lido, Midship
  • Opening Times: 11 am to 10:30 pm (weather permitting)
  • Room Service

And last but not least we have room service, which is 24/7 and complimentary. You can enjoy breakfast in bed or perhaps you missed dinner and really need something to eat late at night.

Room service is a great way to enjoy a meal while staying in, in the comfort of your cabin. It can be a life saver when you really need to grab a bite to eat and it allows you to order that chocolate cake that you had for dinner, but just cannot forget about and want some more of. Hey, you are on vacation after all!

Culinary Collaborations

I would also like to point out that Princess Cruises collaborates with a few award-winning chefs to serve dishes and creations to its guests that are something special.

Chef Curtis Stone and master chocolatier Norman Love designed specific dishes and desserts exclusively for Princess Cruises that can be enjoyed in the Main Dining Rooms. The super tasty and so pretty to look at chocolate creations can also be savoured at Horizon Court. The specific dishes and desserts are marked on the evening menus so you know about them.

sapphire princess cruise menu

I had this chocolate heart from the Chocolate Journey’s programme and it was one of the nicest desserts I had during my sailing. It was so pretty to look at, creamy, chocolatey and just a joy to eat. It was gone in no time!

SPECIALITY DINING AT AN ADDITIONAL COST

I personally have not been to any of the speciality restaurants on board the Sapphire Princess. To be honest with you, I never eat in one at sea.

The food that is already included in the cruise fare is great and there is so much to choose from that I do not feel the need to spend extra money on a restaurant visit. Moreover, you can find elaborated and unique dishes in the normal restaurants as well such as lobster tail, a nice steak or even escargot.

I understand why people like to spend that extra money, for example to celebrate an anniversary or birthday or perhaps the restaurant offers a unique or premium meat cut. But that is not for me.

Still, here are the speciality dining options offered on board the Sapphire Princess.

  • Sabatini’s

I passed this restaurant a few times and I really love the interior. I am an old school girl and love those old settings with paintings, wood finishing and pillars. Sabatini’s is the Italian speciality restaurant offering Italian wines, different pasta dishes, desserts and more celebrating all things Italian.

sapphire princess cruise menu

  • Location: Deck 7 – Promenade, Aft
  • Opening Time: 5:30 pm to 10 pm
  • Cover Charge: $29 per person
  • Sterling Steakhouse

Another speciality restaurant on board is the Sterling Steakhouse and of course as the name suggests, plenty of steak options are on the menu. Here you can find premium steak cuts including New York strip steak, Porterhouse and Filet Mignon. However, the Sterling Steakhouse also offers a seafood selection including tiger prawns and sea bass. Therefore, this might appeal to the meat and fish lovers among you.

Again, I do apologise for the missing pictures. I am learning from my mistakes and I promise to do better next time and really get pictures from all the venues. Spoiler, I do not have pictures of the rest of the speciality restaurants either! Sorry.

Crab Shack is a popup speciality restaurant, at least that is what I am going to call it. The Sterling Steakhouse venue was not just used as a Steakhouse, but also served as the Crab Shack venue. I can only assume that this was something like a two in one restaurant and that guests could eat seafood or a steak.

  • Chef’s Table

A very exclusive and different dining option is the Chef’s Table Experience. This special dining option offers guests the opportunity to take part in a tour of the ship’s galley. They get a behind the scenes glimpse of what is going on in the kitchen during the busy dinner time.

Guests get to enjoy pre-dinner cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the galley while observing how dishes are created. Next, the executive chef will explain the special dinner menu created for those guests participating in the Chef’s Table Experience before they get escorted to a designated table where they will enjoy the main course. Each couple will also receive a copy of the Princess’ best-selling cookbook “Courses, A Culinary Journey”, a handwritten copy of their special dinner menu as well as a picture of the night.

This seems to be a very popular experience as this is only open to up to 10 guests on selected nights during sailings and can only be booked onboard.

  • Cover Charge: $95 per person
  • Balcony Dining

Fancy a luxurious breakfast or romantic dinner with a view from your own private balcony for just the two of you? No problem, Princess Cruises offers a Balcony Dining Experience.

The dinner experience seems to be rather nice and includes one cocktail per person with hors d’oeuvres, one flower bouquet, four course menu as well as one picture 8×10 and half a bottle of Champagne per couple.

  • Location: Selected Balcony Cabins
  • Opening Time: Breakfast 7 am to 11 am, Dinner 5:30 pm to 10 pm
  • Cover Charge: Deluxe Breakfast $45 per couple, Four Course Dinner $100 per couple

You want to be casual and eat whenever you want to? Go to the Horizon Court Buffet. At night you prefer to dress up and get ready, but want to eat whenever you want to? Go for Anytime Dining. Or are you celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary and want to celebrate the occasion? Book a table in one of the speciality restaurants.

Overall, there are plenty of different dining options and eating venues on board the Sapphire Princess. There is simply something for everyone.

Dining Options Included In Cruise Fare:

  • Anytime Dining (Santa Fe, Savoy, Pacific Moon or Vivaldi Dining Room)
  • Prego Pizzeria
  • Trident Grill

Speciality Dining At An Additional Cost:

Oh wow, the dining experience upon this cruise looks fabulous!!

My favourite dining venues must have been Alfredo’s Pizzeria and the Vivaldi Dining Room. I just love those classic looking restaurants and my partner does, too. Although the Santa Fe Dining Room was great as well. We had Afternoon Tea there one time, which was nice. Definitely plenty to choose from 🙂

such a glorious choice of indoor dining it looks out of this world!

Normally you only get to dine in one restaurant for dinner when you have anytime dining and your time dining. Having four different restaurants to choose from was definitely great and a bonus.

You did a better job of explaining the options than what I could find on the Princess website, so thank you so much. We leave in 3 days and this article was very helpful. We did book Sabatini’s Italian to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday and his heritage is Italian. I had no idea that all the main dining rooms have the same menu.

Buenos Aires

sapphire princess cruise menu

This fabulous city is renowned for its sophistication, although travelers expecting a more 'South American' experience are sometimes disappointed with its European feel. Argentina is one Latin American country where Europeans and North Americans can feel at ease and travel relatively inconspicuously. An interest in soccer and some nimble foot skills may be all you need to feel like a local.

Punta Arenas

sapphire princess cruise menu

This is Patagonia's largest and most commercially important city. Located on the western side of the Strait of Magellan with a superb port and the only large airport in the area, it is the major hub for boat transport through the strait and research vessels on their way to or from Antarctica. For the visitor, Punta Arenas is better known as the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park, 400 kilometers to the northwest. This unique town grew up on wool and international shipping before the Panama Canal opened. In the late 19th century, huge fortunes made by sheep farming left the city with distinguished mansions, some of them now museums and other monuments. Summer cruise ships from Punta Arenas travel to Antarctica, where Chile claims a sector of the icebound continent. You can also begin a scenic ferry cruise through the Chilean fjords from Puerto Natales, sailing north to Puerto Montt, in the southern mainland lake region.

sapphire princess cruise menu

Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, on the shores of the Beagle Channel and surrounded by the Martial Mounts. It is the capital of the Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and Southern Atlantic Islands Province, and its superlative location allows you to enjoy sea, mountains and forests at the same time. Besides, it is a great place for shopping: the whole island is a tax free zone, thus you can find lots of imported goods along with regional products.

Antarctic Peninsula

sapphire princess cruise menu

The Antarctic Peninsula is the northernmost part of the mainland of Antarctica, located at the base of the Southern Hemisphere. At the surface, it is the biggest, most prominent peninsula in Antarctica as it extends 1,300 km (810 miles) from a line between Cape Adams (Weddell Sea) and a point on the mainland south of Eklund Islands. Beneath the ice sheet which covers it, the Antarctic Peninsula consists of a string of bedrock islands; these are separated by deep channels whose bottoms lie at depths considerably below current sea level. They are joined together by a grounded ice sheet. Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost tip of South America, lies only about 1,000 km (620 miles) away across the Drake Passage. The Antarctic Peninsula is currently dotted with numerous research stations and nations have made multiple claims of sovereignty. The peninsula is part of disputed and overlapping claims by Argentina, Chile and the United Kingdom. None of these claims have international recognition and, under the Antarctic Treaty System, the respective countries do not attempt to enforce their claims. The British claim is recognised though by Australia, France, New Zealand and Norway. Argentina has the most bases and personnel stationed on the peninsula. The first sighting of Antarctic Peninsula is contested but it apparently occurred in the 1820s. Agreement on this name by the US-ACAN and UK-APC in 1964 resolved a long-standing difference involving use of the American name, Palmer Peninsula, and the British name, Graham Land, for this feature. Graham Land is now restricted to that part of Antarctic Peninsula northward of a line between Cape Jeremy and Cape Agassiz; Palmer Land to the part southward of that line. In Chile, it is oficially referred as O´Higgins Land, after the Chilean patriot and Antarctic visionary. The other Spanish countries call it "Península Antártica", among them is Argentina: it has got more bases and people there than any other nation. The peninsula is highly mountainous, its highest peaks rising to approximately 2,800 metres (9,186 feet). These mountains are considered to be a continuation of the Andes of South America, with a submarine spine connecting the two. Since the peninsula has the mildest climate in Antarctica, the highest concentration of research stations on the continent can be found there, or on the many nearby islands. Stanley/Falklands

sapphire princess cruise menu

Stanley is a picturesque town of about 1700 people. Brightly colored wriggly-tin roofs contrast strikingly with the grays and browns of the surrounding hills. The town is named after Lord Stanley, Secretary of State for the Colonies 1841 - 1844. He ordered the main settlement to be removed from Port Louis to the Port Jackson area and Governor Richard Clement Moody completed the move and took up official residence in Stanley on the 15th July 1844. Your first point of call should be the newly completed Jetty Center - situated just off the Public Jetty, this is where you'll get all the information you'll need on what to do, how to get about and where to stay. For anyone interested in history, a visit to Stanley will be a rich and rewarding experience. A maritime history trail around the harbor leads you to famous wrecks. Old stone cottages mingle with wriggly-tin houses - there are the amazing Jubilee Villas - a piece of British Victorian suburbia in the South Atlantic and the Chelsea Pensioners houses in Pioneer row (brought here in the late 1840's). There are also more recent reminders of the conflict in 1982 - Stanley may be small but it is filled with interest. Your visit would not be complete without a visit to the museum in Holdfast Road (so called because it was here on the 14th June 1982 that Maj. Gen. Sir Jeremy Moore ordered his troops to 'hold fast' until he had negotiated the Argentine surrender. The museum is packed with a huge variety of exhibits ranging from an 1896 Symphonium to whalebones. The stated objective of the museum is to present a taste of the many aspects of the Falklands' rich and varied history including Domestic, Maritime, Social, Military and Natural History - it is not to be missed!

Home to almost 50% of the nation's population, Montevideo is a modern metropolis with a historical old town dating back to colonial times. Surrounding the whole city lies an uninterrupted stretch of white sandy beach. Highlights include Ciudad Vieja (Old Town) with its 18th century buildings, the vibrant Mercado del Puerto, and the bustling commercial activity of Avenida 18 de Julio and its cultural offerings (theatres, museums and art galleries)

Ultimate Guide to Princess Cruises Drinks Prices & Menus

In this post you’ll find the  Princess Cruises drinks menus and prices , correct as of 2022. Is a drinks package worth it? Making a decision about purchasing a drinks package can be difficult, so this post is designed to help you.

I was fortunate to sail on Sky Princess in August 2021 and April 2022. I took photos of the Princess Cruises drinks menus with prices whilst onboard to help you to plan your budget.

Princess Cruises Drinks Guide

On Princess, drinks can be purchased individually or with a drinks package. Princess Cruises drinks packages can be purchased in advance or within the first two days of getting onboard. If you decide to wait until you get onboard, the beverage package price is added to your onboard account and paid at the end of your cruise.

Take a look at my Complete Guide the Princess Cruises Drinks Packages 2022

There are no advantages to waiting until you get on your cruise to buy the drinks package. The price is the same whether you purchase in advance or on embarkation day.

Instead of a beverage package, you may want to consider Princess Plus or Princess Premier. In almost all cases, Princess Plus offers the best value to cruisers as it includes a drinks package along with WiFi and crew gratuities/incentives.

Take a look at my guide to Princess Plus to find out when it might not be the best choice.

Princess Premier is a new package that has been introduced in 2022 so I’d recommend taking a look at my breakdown of what’s included in the Princess Premier Package to see if it’s worth it.

This Princess Cruises drinks guide provides you with the individual prices, sourced from bar menus onboard. Although these prices are from Sky Princess, the prices seem to be the same across all Princess Cruises’ ships.

The Plus Beverage Package includes all drinks up to $12, the Premier Beverage Package includes all drinks up to $18. all alcoholic drinks by the glass
If you choose a drink that is greater than the beverage package limit, you must pay the individual drink’s price in full (new change to package rules).

Beer on Princess Cruises

There’s only one non-alcoholic lager available – Heineken 0.0 at $5.50.

Princess Cruises Drinks Menu: Ciders

There are only two ciders available on Princess ships. There are no berry fruit ciders at present on any of the menus.

White Wine List on Princess Cruises

Most of the wine on Princess Cruises can be purchased from the bars by the glass or by the bottle. If you have the Plus or Premier Beverage Packages, wine by the glass is included but you can only get a 25% discount when buying a bottle.

Princess Cruises Drinks Menu: Red Wine List

The best place to enjoy wine on Princess ships is at Vines Wine Bar, usually located on Deck 5 of the Piazza. Here you have access to wines you cannot find anywhere else on the ship.

Red wine prices range from $9 to $21 per glass.

Princess Wine List: Rose Wine

Wine flights from vines wine bar.

If you like to taste a range of different wines, wine flights are available from Vines Wine Bar in the Piazza. Wine flights are not part of the exclusions from the beverage packages are therefore are included in the Plus Package (up to $12) and Premier Package (up to $18).

The Norman Love Wine Flight pairs wine with chocolate for those who love both!

Champagne and Sparkling Wines

Champagne Cocktails

In certain bars you will be able to order Champagne cocktails. It’s more likely the inside bars will do these such as Take Five, Bellini’s and Vines.

Remember, the Plus Beverage Package covers drinks up to $12 and the Premier Beverage Package covers drinks up to $18.

A 500ml bottle of natural spring water is included in the Premier and Plus Beverage Packages but is not included in the non-alcoholic beverage packages (a 25% discount is included).

If you choose the Plus or Premier Beverage Package you have a 25% discount on 1 litre bottles of natural spring water.

Coffee and Tea Prices on Princess Cruises

The biggest selection of coffee and tea can be found at the International Cafe in the Piazza. There is a small choice of coffee and tea in the buffet.

These can be ordered in small or large sizes.

Final Thoughts on Princess Cruises Drinks

These  Princess Cruises drinks menus and prices , will hopefully give you a useful way to calculate whether a drinks package is needed.

The majority of the drinks are covered in the Plus Beverage Package and the cheapest option is purchase the Princess Plus add-on package , which includes drinks up to $12, unlimited WiFi and crew appreciation (tips) for $50 / £40 per person per day.

If you don’t plan to drink more than 5 or 6 alcoholic drinks a day you may be better off paying for drinks individually – it all depends on what you like to drink.

Sun princess: the best dining, amenities and more on princess cruises' newest ship.

Sun Princess features an updated layout, delicious new restaurants and plenty of spaces to be entertained.

Sun Princess Review

Aerial of the Sun Princess over open water.

Courtesy of Princess Cruises

Key Takeaways

  • Sun Princess' fresher, more modern design may appeal to a younger crowd than the line normally caters to.
  • Incredible dining options abound, including The Catch by Rudi and the new Spellbound dinner and magic show.
  • New Cabana Mini-Suites feature indoor-outdoor cabana areas and spacious balconies.

As a travel writer who cruises with all the major lines, I was excited to travel through the Mediterranean on the new Sun Princess cruise ship in May 2024. I traveled with my mother to celebrate her 76th birthday shortly after the new ship's February debut in Rome . The itinerary we sailed was a unique, one-way offering that departed from Athens, Greece , with visits to ports like Bar, Montenegro; Corfu, Greece; and Messina and Naples, Italy .

A true marvel of modern engineering and ship architecture, Sun Princess boasts a maximum guest capacity of 4,300 and room for 1,600 crew. The Sphere-Class vessel is 1,133 feet long and 200 feet high, with a breadth of 139 feet and 21 total decks. There are 2,157 staterooms, including 80 unique suites with extra space for guests.

Standout features include a three-floor main dining area, the Princess Arena with capacity for 990 guests and a 250-person entertainment space known as The Dome. Read on to learn everything there is to know about the Sun Princess cruise ship, including my own take on the dining and entertainment options available to cruisers.

Find your perfect cruise

Sun Princess itineraries for 2024 and 2025

Sun Princess.

Holly Johnson

While Sun Princess is scheduled to cruise the Mediterranean through September 2024, the ship will cross the Atlantic on its way to Fort Lauderdale, Florida , by October for the winter cruise season.

From this new homeport, Sun Princess will offer seven-day Caribbean cruises with the stops in Honduras, Belize , Mexico, the Bahamas , the Dominican Republic, and Turks & Caicos through March 2025.

Sun Princess will then embark on a 14-day Spanish Passage voyage in March 2025, which ends in Barcelona, Spain , and repositions the ship for its summer in the Mediterranean. At that point, cruisers can book a range of lengthy Mediterranean options over various dates, which include stops in Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Italy, France, Spain and more.

Who should sail on Sun Princess?

Sun Princess.

While most people may think of Princess Cruises as a cruise line for baby boomers, Sun Princess aims to attract a younger, livelier crowd. This is immediately apparent when walking around the ship's common areas; Sun Princess boasts bold color schemes, endless windows, sparkling lights and a more modern central piazza than other Princess ships.

While my Mediterranean sailing largely consisted of adult travelers, Sun Princess will likely attract more families on its Caribbean itineraries. The ship's layout is ideal for parents with children of all ages, and amenities geared specifically toward kids abound. It all starts with the ship's Park19 family area, which features a huge climbing structure, a splash zone, a recreational court, a jogging court and more. Sun Princess also has three dedicated youth clubs: Firefly Park Kids Club (ages 3 to 7, with a separate play area for babies and toddlers 6 months and older), Neon Grove Tweens Club (ages 8 to 12) and The Underground Teen Lounge (ages 13 to 17).

What's interesting about Sun Princess is that it still has so much to offer more mature travelers, including couples who want to enjoy a romantic, upscale vacation. This is shown in the ship's elevated dining venues, expansive casino and luxurious spa. Sun Princess also offers the Sanctuary Collection of rooms and suites, which offer more amenities and spaces to relax on the ship.

Travelers who book a room in the Sanctuary Collection get their pick of a nicer selection of rooms, a premium beverage package, access to a private restaurant and pool deck and a more personalized experience overall. Think of the Sanctuary Collection suites as an alternative to MSC Cruises Yacht Club cabins – the biggest difference being that the venues available to cruisers in these cabins are spread throughout the ship.

The stateroom

Sun Princess.

I stayed in one of the new Cabana Mini-Suites on the Sun Princess, which I would book again in a heartbeat. These rooms are a take on the classic balcony cabin most cruisers expect, but with a twist. In addition to an outdoor balcony, Cabana Mini-Suites have a separate indoor-outdoor cabana-like area with a flat-screen television.

This extra space means the new Cabana Mini-Suites are much longer from one end to the other than a traditional balcony stateroom. The additional space is nice to have whether you want more room for storage or a separate place to read or relax while your cabinmate naps. My mom sat in our cabana area and read several times while I showered and got ready for dinner, and she even took a nap out there while I worked on my computer in our stateroom.

Regardless of the stateroom you book, know that Sun Princess cabins feature soft, neutral tones and plenty of closet space. Power outlets are abundant, and there are all kinds of nooks and crannies for storage. Cabin types on Sun Princess include the following:

Interior Cabins (136 to 145 square feet)

Basic interior rooms offer a queen bed or two small twin beds, a flat-panel television, a refrigerator, and a private bathroom with a shower. These are the most affordable cabins on the ship, and they work best for guests who just want a place to relax and sleep.

Premium Oceanview (212 square feet)

Ocean-view cabins have slightly more space than interior rooms, but they still lack a balcony. These rooms feature a queen bed or two twin configurations, a large flat-screen television, a refrigerator, and more floor and storage space.

Deluxe Balcony (235 square feet, including balcony)

Balcony cabins offer more space than ocean-view rooms due to the addition of a spacious balcony with outdoor seating. Balcony cabins can also come in a queen bed or two twin configuration and have a large flat-screen television, a refrigerator, and more floor and storage space.

Mini-Suite (303 square feet, including balcony)

Mini-Suites are essentially large balcony cabins with more storage space, more closet space and more floor space. These rooms have all the amenities of other cabins but include two flat-screen televisions (one for the bedroom area and another for couch viewing).

Cabana Mini-Suite (329 square feet, including balcony and cabana)

The Cabana Mini-Suite on the Sun Princess.

These rooms add the indoor-outdoor space of the cabana adjacent to the outdoor balcony. The cabana area has seating for several people and its own flat-screen television (in addition to the in-room TV).

Signature Suites (304 to 636 square feet, including balcony)

Signature Suites range in size and include larger balconies with premium furniture, two flat-screen televisions, a more spacious bathroom with a separate tub and shower, and dedicated sleeping and living areas.

Signature Sky Suites (1,262 square feet, including balcony)

Princess Cruises Signature Sky Suites are the largest staterooms across all Princess vessels, and they have all the bells and whistles you can imagine. Standout features of Sky Suites include separate living and dining areas; huge, luxurious bathrooms; and Nespresso coffee machines.

(Note: Sanctuary Collection rooms are dotted throughout the ship and consist of balcony-, mini-suite- and suite-category accommodations.)

Best amenities on Sun Princess

Sun Princess.

Since my itinerary on the Sun Princess cruise ship included multiple port stops, I didn't get to experience everything the ship had to offer. However, what I did experience was worth it – from the nonstop entertainment in the piazza to over-the-top dining features. Some of my standout experiences include:

Part dinner and part magic show, Spellbound by Magic Castle is bookable for an additional charge. The experience begins with a small group dinner with drink pairings, then moves to a hidden bar area of the ship, where the magic begins. The bar itself features magical artifacts and vintage curiosities, a "ghost" pianist, and an incredible drink menu designed to wow and delight guests. Some drinks were served in cages, golden owls and elaborate chests with dry ice.

Magic came in the form of intriguing card tricks and disappearing acts at the bar, plus a separate stage area where crowd participation helped facilitate the illusions. I don't want to give anything more than that away – you must simply experience it for yourself. Though I thought Spellbound was slightly cheesy at times, I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and show and feel it was worth the added cost.

The Dome on the Sun Princess is part pool area and part stage. Guests can swim in a unique indoor-outdoor pool by day and watch entertainers dance in the evening, with alluring lighting effects and a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

I watched an acrobatics show in The Dome from the comfort of a padded lounge chair and thought the venue was the place to be.

Princess Arena

The Princess Arena is a circular stage area that holds up to 990 guests. Shows on offer include multifaceted stage productions and acrobatic features with plenty of surprises.

Fitness center

The Sun Princess' fitness center was huge and featured a range of treadmills, stair climbers, weights and machines to choose from. I never had trouble securing a treadmill at any time, even though I've had to wait and fight crowds for machines on other cruise ships.

I also loved the expansive walking track on the ship, which was constantly in use by both serious exercisers and cruisers walking leisurely to enjoy the views. I used the walking track every morning for at least an hour; I found it much more spacious and usable than other ship walking tracks, which are often congested and never quite wide enough.

The ship also features a Fitness Studio with guided classes, but I did not use it during my trip.

Sun Princess features five large pools and nine hot tubs. There are two pools on the lido deck, plus an indoor-outdoor pool in The Dome, a Sanctuary pool (for Sanctuary Collection guests only) and a wake-view infinity pool.

Medallion services

Princess MedallionClass is one of the coolest and most convenient amenities at sea. In place of a traditional cruise card, Princess gives you a small wearable device to bring with you around the ship and on shore. The medallion tracks your physical location on the ship, which allows you to order services and deliveries on board no matter where you are. Medallion delivery options range from food and drinks to extra pillows or bottled water.

I ordered room service through my medallion multiple times and hot, fresh food arrived in my cabin in less than 20 minutes. Meanwhile, drinks were delivered to our cabin and elsewhere on the ship in less than five minutes.

MedallionNet

Princess' Wi-Fi at sea (MedallionNet) is the fastest internet service I have ever used on a cruise ship. The internet was fast and reliable enough for me to complete some work while on board, which is not the norm on cruise ships.

Best dining venues Sun Princess

Sun Princess.

Sun Princess features 30 dining and bar options, many of which are included in the base cruise fare. Complimentary dining venues on Sun Princess include three traditional dining rooms, The Eatery (a take on the classic buffet, but with staff service), a café for coffee and light bites, The Lido (serving up salads, pizza and more) and the Promenade Dining grill.

Specialty dining options for an extra charge range from O'Malley's Irish Pub to a sushi spot to steak, seafood and Italian restaurants. For an extra special experience, head to Love by Britto to indulge in fine dining, or opt for Umai hot pot or teppanyaki venues. Meanwhile, bars on Sun Princess include Bellini's Cocktail Bar, Sea View Bar, The MIX and more.

My personal favorite dining experiences included:

My Spellbound dinner was excellent, even though the menu is fairly brief. I enjoyed a delicious shrimp cocktail and seafood entree, followed by a vegan dessert (I'm allergic to dairy and the ship happily accommodated). What stood out for me with Spellbound, at least food-wise, was the eclectic selection of drink pairings offered with the meal. It started with a caprese salad cocktail that tasted like tomatoes and balsamic vinegar in a strange, delicious way, then moved on to the spooky concoctions offered in the Spellbound bar.

Crown Grill

Crown Grill, a specialty dining venue, is not unique to Sun Princess, but it is the cruise line's most popular steakhouse brand. My mom and I had a delicious meal here for her birthday that included a Mediterranean-style spiny lobster cake, Chilean sea bass and a huge (surprise) birthday cake delivered to our table.

The Catch by Rudi

The Catch by Rudi is the ship's specialty dining seafood restaurant. Here, I dined on a delicious shrimp cocktail and the catch of the day (a grilled dorado filet). Everything was fresh and the meal was exceptional from start to finish.

I loved The Eatery, the ship's buffet-style dining option. The main difference between this venue and more traditional cruise ship buffets is that you're served by staff instead of serving yourself, which I prefer. The Eatery featured a rotating selection of exceptional main courses (seafood, chicken, beef and ethnic options), salads, appetizers and delicious desserts. It even had a vegan section and an easy-to-find selection of gluten-free offerings.

Best excursions on Sun Princess

Sun Princess.

The best excursions on Sun Princess vary depending on where you're going on your cruise – the Caribbean or various Europe destinations. Here's an overview of some excellent excursions offered aboard Sun Princess, a few of which I did myself.

Corfu, Greece

Catamaran Coastal Cruise & Swim: This easy excursion lets you see Corfu from the sea and get out into the water for some snorkeling and swimming. I picked this excursion so we could relax for one day and avoid a lot of walking, and it delivered. A delicious lunch with an open bar was served on board as we sailed around the island taking in some of Corfu's most beautiful sights.

Naples, Italy

Sorrento & Amalfi Coast Cruise: No trip to this region of Italy is complete without a stop in the Amalfi Coast . This excursion was a long one (eight to nine hours) with lots of walking and bus time, but the views of this dynamic coast and time spent in Amalfi and Sorrento made the travel time well worth it.

Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos

Island Vibes & Beach Swim: This relatively short excursion includes a narrated bus trip throughout the island of Grand Turk, highlighting some of the island's top sights. A beach break at picturesque Governor's Beach is included.

Princess Cays, Bahamas

Princess Cays Coastal Cruise: Princess Cruises' private island offers a range of bookable activities, from banana boat rides to snorkeling tours. This coastal cruise is another option that takes you along the shores of Eleuthera in a 40-foot Reef Princess boat.

Overall impressions of Sun Princess

Sun Princess.

If you're considering a cruise on Sun Princess, you should know that this isn't your traditional Princess ship. The look and feel of this vessel are younger and livelier compared to other Princess ships I have sailed on. Gone are the hallways filled with cruisers knitting and playing cards; in their place, you'll find dancing, entertainment, music and activities around the clock.

When it comes to Sun Princess dining, every meal I had on board was either very good or excellent. You don't even have to opt for an extra-cost specialty dining venue to get a good meal. The Eatery and the regular dining rooms feature fresh, seasonal foods that are more than enough for the average palate to enjoy.

Caribbean itineraries on offer later this year (and into 2025) start at around $660 per person for an interior cabin, and Princess features an endless roster of sales throughout the year. If you're looking for a new cruising experience and want to give Princess a try (or another chance), Sun Princess is more than worthy of your consideration.
