If you want an authentic taste of Miami in all its glory, head to South Beach. The Miami Beach neighborhood, also known to many as SoBe, is home to more than 40,000 people and regularly welcomes visitors from all across the world. In South Beach, just a quick 10 to 15-minute drive from downtown Miami, you should feel at home amongst both those who crave an active lifestyle (yoga, biking around town, vegan eats) and those who are fascinated by the glitz, glamour, and sparkle of South Beach’s effervescent shopping, architecture, and nightlife. Keep reading for our favorite things to do in South Beach. A long weekend is the perfect length of time to experience all that the South Florida beach city has to offer.

Stretch It Out with Yoga at 3rd Street

thelegendaryalex /  Twenty20

Whether you want to start or end your day with yoga on the beach , 3rd Street has you covered with a by-donation class that takes place daily at sunrise and sunset. Every day of the year, this yoga class takes place on 3rd and Ocean Drive. Students and the instructor meet at the lifeguard hut. Bring a towel, water, and some sunblock and get ready for some fluid movements that will get your blood flowing. Between April and October, classes take place at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.; between November and March, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., rain or shine. Detoxify your body and get your mind right so you can truly enjoy all that SoBe eating and drinking.

Get Cultured at Various South Beach Museums

 1davidlange / Twenty20

Whether you choose to visit The Bass, Miami’s contemporary art museum founded in 1964 and housed in a historic art deco space with a garden, or The Wolfsonian—FIU, a museum, library and research center with an extensive art collection, South Beach is bound to have a museum that will tickle your curiosity. Like something a little wilder where art is concerned? The World Erotic Art Museum is a museum, library, and education center that focuses on the history of erotic art with a collection owned by Naomi Wilzig. Find everything from paintings, drawings, photos, and sculptures here. You’ll even recognize pieces by world-renowned artists like Salvador Dali, Picasso, Fernando Botero, and Rembrandt.

Enjoy It All With Your Four-Legged Friend in Tow

Luckily, South Beach is a super dog-friendly town, so if you’re traveling with your pups, they don’t have to be excluded from the fun. The boardwalk and Ocean Drive allow dogs, and so do most of the restaurants with outdoor seating. Hotels like the W and 1 Hotel South Beach are all dog-friendly, and if you want to take your pooch to play in the sand and swim in the ocean, you can do so just a short car ride away at Haulover Beach Park. Dogs are allowed to hang here daily until 3 p.m.

Dance and Drink the Night Away

Courtesy of Mango's Tropical Cafe - South Beach

Start or end your evening with a pina colada at Mango’s Tropical Cafe, a nightclub with live Latin music and entertainment until 5 a.m. daily. You haven’t truly experienced South Beach until you’ve done some dancing at Mango’s. Then there’s Nikki Beach. This indoor-outdoor club has been around for more than two decades, has a DJ on deck, and is the perfect place to party, day or night. If you want something a little quieter and more sophisticated, head to Rose Bar at the Delano Hotel. A glass of champagne is a no-brainer here; you can also indulge in LVE Wines, John Legend’s exclusive brand of rosé. Swizzle Rum Bar and Drinkery is the spot to hit up for a rum cocktail. Inside the Stiles Hotel, this 24-seater bar (plus additional seats in the lounge and outdoor pool area) is open until 5 a.m. daily and hosts happy hour daily from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. as well as themed nights like Tiki Monday, Smuggler Tuesday, and Prohibition Thursday. East Coast meets West Coast at the new Blind Barber inside the Nautilus Hotel. Neon lights and hip hop define this speakeasy-style club that you must enter through the barbershop—nothing like a not-so-secret secret bar in SoBe.

Get a Taste of Tropically-Influenced Cuisine

Courtesy of Yardbird Southern Table & Bar

If it’s vegan dining with breathtaking decor you’re going for, look no further than Planta South Beach. For a hint of Southern style (think mint juleps and fried chicken), Yardbird never disappoints. The seasonal Joe’s Stone Crabs will give you a real taste of South Florida, whether you’re in the mood for stone crabs, good old lobster, or a key lime pie. And then there’s Katsuya—consistently delicious no matter what city you’re in, the sushi here is always fresh, and the food presentations are impeccable. When you want to celebrate with steak frites and some terrific people-watching, Prime 112 will be your go-to. In the Prime family, there’s also Prime Italian, Prime Fish, and Big Pink, so no matter what you’re in the mood for this restaurant group will have you covered from all angles.

Spot Celebrity Homes on a Stand-Up Paddleboard or Kayak

You may choose to just rent stand-up paddleboards or kayaks on your own and head out on an adventure tailored by you, or you may want a little guidance if it’s your first time out on the Miami waters. The good thing is that here waters are relatively calm, weather permitting. If it’s a sunset excursion you’re looking at, spend a little more money for the tour. You can also take a two-hour guided tour to Monument Island Beach, which is secluded and only accessible by water.

Take an Art Deco Walking Tour

Julien Borean / Unsplash

It’s not the most affordable tour you’ll ever take (nothing in South Beach is cheap), but we can say with confidence that it’s absolutely 100 percent worth it. This two-hour walking tour will introduce you to Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Miami Modern (MiMo) architectural styles that are found in the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District. Tours are $30 per person, discounted at $25 per person for seniors (65 and over), veterans and students, and they take place rain or shine, so dress appropriately. Comfortable walking shoes and a rain jacket or an umbrella should do the trick.

Do Some Window Shopping on Lincoln Road

Just a few blocks from the beach, Lincoln Road Mall is a superb place for shopping, dining and people watching. From Madewell and Urban Outfitters to Pottery Barn, Taschen, CB2, and Williams-Sonoma, Lincoln Road has all your clothing, home, shoes, decor, and gift needs. Enjoy happy hour on weekdays (a few of the dining spots even offer happy hour on Sundays) at some of the outdoor mall’s restaurants, like Doraku, Havana 1957, Meat Market and Sushi Samba. There’s even a movie theater on Lincoln Road in case you want to catch a pre-shopping matinee or a flick after dinner. Regal South Beach ScreenX, IMAX & VIP is everything you need a theater to be with multiple screens, new release films, comfortable seating for lounging, and, of course, a concession stand with all the sweet treats and popcorn you’d want to pair with a movie.

Transport to Europe’s Quaintest Streets at Espanola Way

TripSavvy / Katelyn Chef

If you’re looking for a European getaway without the price tag, head to Espanola Way, Miami’s historic Spanish village just three blocks south of Lincoln Road. Here, you can take a leisurely walk up the paved and tree-lined street, stopping in at different restaurants for Spanish, Cuban, French, Italian, and Mexican food, along with cocktails, coffee, and dessert to enjoy pre or post-dinner.

Discover the Beauty of South Pointe Park

Marie LaFauci / Getty Images

Take a stroll through the 17-acre space known as South Pointe Park, which includes playgrounds, a dog park, a fishing pier, and more. Break for meditation or sit on one of the benches and listen to the sound of the ocean with a good book. Rollerblade or jog on the sidewalk, and if you get hungry, Smith and Wollensky is within walking distance with great steaks, wine, and all the excellent views.

Looking for Things to do in South Beach Miami?

Located on the Southeastern coast of Florida, South Beach is well known for its movie scene and architecture, attracting a large portion of the ten million tourists that visit the Greater Miami Area each year. South Beach is a melting pot of cultures, flavors, and activities, with as many restaurants and bars to satisfy your vacation needs, while also having plenty of sandy beaches for relaxation.

Miami Beach is also famously known for its proximity to other countries, such as The Bahamas and Cuba, and its Port with many cruise lines, such as Disney, Norwegian and Carnival.

Believe it or not, South Beach started in the early 1900s as rich farmland, mainly for coconut farming due to the perfect climate in the area. Not long after this, the Collins Ave bridge was constructed, connecting the mainland to the Bay, and starting the booming development of the SoBe (South Beach) area.

By the 1960s, development of the Art Deco and SoBe’s increasing reputation resulted in the decline of South Beach as a ‘Retirement Village’. Simultaneously, South Beach was well known for its narcotics scene, displayed in the Miami Vice televisions series. Now, South Beach is known for its vibrant nightlife , hotels , boutiques, and restaurants, becoming a prime tourist attraction to people from all over the world.

Ready to explore what South Beach has to offer? Check out these 18 things to do in Miami, and you are sure to be in for a treat!

There are also other stunning features like the refurbished fountains, a koi pond, a wetland with mangroves, and the beautiful banyan tree. You can also visit the botanical boutique to grow your own orchids.

And the best part is that entry to Miami Beach Botanical Garden is completely free.

Miami Art Deco District

South Beach, Miami, neighborhood guide

There’s more to South Beach than glamorous beaches, tropical resorts and wild clubs. Of course, there’s that too.

Ashley Brozic

When people come to Miami, they’ve got South Beach on their minds. And who can blame them? The neon-trimmed Art Deco buildings, the endless palm trees, the iconic pools and resorts, the parties! It’s exactly as pictured,  but once you’ve had your fix of two-for-one “deals,” shady promoters and cacophonous pop bangers at the club, you may be left wondering,   “What else?”  Here’s our guide to the best restaurants, bars, attractions and things to do in Miami’s most iconic neighborhood.

What’s the deal with South Beach?

South Beach is so much deeper and more interesting than its shallow shores. There are 107 years of history to indulge in, starting with the largest concentration of Art Deco buildings in the world  (thanks to the hard work and effort of the Miami Design Preservation League). The best part? You can freely scope the interiors, as many of the city’s best restaurants , boutique hotels and resorts are housed within them.

There are, of course, the beaches . Then, there are the best things to do in South Beach right now . Even when you're skin needs a little break from all that fun in the sun, there are ways to stay entertained, like shopping  at the best South Beach stores , museum hopping, and if you’re game, dancing the night away . Really, there’s no shortage of ways to entertain yourself on our glamorous little isle, and our guide will help you get turnt, without getting too sunburnt.

Ok, so what’s the history of South Beach?

Our story starts with a coconut farm—or the attempt to open one, at least. In 1870, the Lum family bought up a slim sandbar with wild mangroves for 25 cents and plans to grow palm trees. They weren’t very successful, so their plantation ended up in the hands of John Collins. He eventually amassed five miles of land along where his namesake street now runs and was able to make a good living off of his coconuts and exotic fruits.

If it were up to Collins, South Beach would still be a coconut farm, but his children had loftier dreams to turn this plantation into a tourist destination. They convinced their dad to let them build a bridge to the mainland (what’s now the scenic Venetian Causeway), only they ran out of money halfway through. Enter Carl Fischer, inventor of the modern car headlight. He took a gamble and financed the completion of the bridge in exchange for 200 acres of land. By 1913, the same year Joe of the famed  Joe’s Stone Crab  kicked off his career, people like the Lummus brothers were buying up plots of land. And on March 26, 1915, the mentioned parties got together and incorporated the Town of Miami Beach.

In the 1920s, the millionaires started moving in. Then came the architects who gave the island its Art Deco facade. By the 1950s, South Beach was the most glamorous beach town in America; you had the Rat Pack performing at the Fontainebleau. You had well-to-do snowbirds diving into the Raleigh’s pool after a morning shopping up and down Lincoln Road, the Fifth Avenue of the South. In 1964, Jackie Gleason moved his studios down here and the Beatles filmed one of their first American TV performances for the Ed Sullivan Show at the now-torn-down Deauville.

From the ’60s through the ’80s, Miami Beach traded in its golden years for Jewish retirees celebrating their golden years (Many of them were Holocaust survivors, and there’s a beautiful memorial to honor them just blocks away from Lincoln Road). But as they enjoyed leisurely pursuits, the island became a geographic victim of the Miami drug crime wars. South Beach became a ghost town lined with unfavorable shells.

Then, in the ’90s, everything changed. Here came the artists, the models, the musicians, the fashion set. Nobody had a cell phone camera and South Beach was still recovering from its bad reputation, so there was a sense of freedom and liberation for the rich, the famous and the gay. This was the era of Gianni Versace and Twist, of rollerblading models and good house music, of Will Smith’s “Welcome to Miami.”

In the ’00s, they tried to box up that ’90s vibe for the masses. South Beach was still fun, sure, but it was also cheesy. Every hip hop star rented a yacht for a music video, clubs charged too much for too little (wait, they still do) and LMFAO was in Miami, Bitch. Honestly, it was a lot.

But throughout the 2010s and today, South Beach has once again had a renaissance, thanks in no small part to the influence of Art Basel and the wealthy international set who love to winter here. And that’s where our history lesson ends and the present begins, because South Beach has never been hotter than it is today.

Where exactly is South Beach?

Miami Beach is divided into three sections: North Beach, Mid Beach and South Beach. South Beach starts at South Pointe Park at the tip of the island and extends all the way up to 23rd Street, right before you get to the One Hotel. At the southernmost tip, you’ve got Government Cut, which divides SoBe from Fisher Island.

If you only do one thing

The best way to see a place is by foot or, in the case of Miami Beach, by inline skate or bike! This is one of Miami’s most pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods and over the past few years, they’ve been paving the Miami Beach boardwalk to be bike-friendly, too. Start at South Point Park and make your way north, then take Collins Avenue back, leaving plenty of time to take in all the architecture, explore side roads and duck into any hotel that catches your eye.

How to get to South Beach

The only way to get to South Beach is by bridge—or boat, if you can swing it. The three causeways are the MacArthur, which takes you to Ocean Drive/South of Fifth; the Venetian, which is a more residential toll road that drops you at Sunset Harbour; and the Julia Tuttle, which is straight shot from the airport. If you’re traveling by bus, you’re going to take the 120. And while you’re on the island, take advantage of the free trolley , which operates from 8am to 11pm daily.

What’s the perfect day in South Beach?

If you’re not kicking back at the beach or enjoying your hotel’s pool, here’s what we’d do. Start your morning like most South Miamians do, with a c afecito . Bebito’s is a modern Cuban café on a quiet residential street. Then, make your way down Lincoln Road , but don’t linger. The stores are sterile, so what you’re coming here to do is admire the Morris Lapidus-designed thoroughfare. While you're here, you can duck two blocks north the Miami Beach Botanical Garden (check out their calendar of programming ) or duck two blocks south to grab a bite or a cocktail on Española Way (we swear, you really will feel like you're in Europe).

Then, get cultured. Art enthusiasts can head a few blocks north for The Bass and round out their visit with oyster happy hour at Sweet Liberty . But if you want to stay in the fray, explore design at the Wolfsonian-FIU .

From here, many might opt for an afternoon getting weird at Wet Willie’s, Mango’s or enjoying a drag show at Palace (Fri–Sun, 11am and 2pm). But if you’re looking for the hottest pool party in town, take a dip at the Goodtime Hotel, the millennial-pink hospitality venture by Pharrel Williams and Dave Grutman. As the day starts to melt away, head to the South of Fifth neighborhood to experience a more “local” part of town. Pick up some world-famous stone crabs from Joe’s Takeaway and watch the sunset from South Point Park.

What's the perfect night in South Beach?

There are so many great bars in South Beach , so start off the night with cocktails at a rooftop, like Sirena or The Esmé. Then, soak it all in with dinner at one of South Beach’s 21 best restaurants , like Carbone to tell everyone you've been, Mila for the scene, Stubborn Seed for seasonal fare by Top Chef winner Jeremy Ford or Planta for supremely flavorful vegan food.

After this, you’re gonna want to start moving, maybe at a club , but likely at a more low key lounge or bar.   South Beach's hottest nightlife opening in years, Medium Cool , hosts live jazz from Wednesday through Sunday and TURNS UP at night. (Mark our words: the martinis here are THE BEST.) Other great bars to consider are  Do Not Sit On The Furniture for underground music, Eagle Room for  up-and-coming sets (and Broken Shaker cocktails), and Mini Bar when you just want something tiny and intimate. And if you want a more glamorous experience, Saxony Bar at Faena is a late-night lounge that oozes sophistication.

Just when you think you’ll turn in for the night, don’t. Because there’s a seat at Mac’s Club Deuce waiting for you. The ghost of Anthony Bourdain smiles every time someone orders a cold beer here.

Get cultured

Look around! The neighborhood is brimming with Art Deco architecture and historical buildings. Check out the Art Deco Welcome Center for information on tours and ways to learn more about the area on your own.

On a sunny day

Enjoy the water, obv. If you’re not staying oceanside, there are two public beaches: Lummus Park, the one you imagine when you think of South Beach, and South of Fifth, where the locals tend to go. Mid-Beach is dotted with resorts, but you can find slots of sand in which to pitch a tent if you want a more quiet day at the beach. Miami is also known for its iconic pools which host some of the best pool parties . You can snag a chair or cabana through Resort Pass .

On a rainy day

You came to South Beach to relax, so take advantage of the lack of sunshine and pamper yourself at one of Miami’s best spas . But if that's not doing it for you, here are some ideas on what to do in Miami when it rains .

Get off the beaten path

Española Way used to be a street that locals avoided. Now, we can’t stop talking about it. With the opening of the Esmé Hotel, the street got its Bohemian edge back, and you can easily spend a whole night here. Start off at Tropezón , a Spanish tapas bar by Miami hospitality group Lost Boy Co., or the Drexel for clean Mediterranean fare by the team behind Mandolin.

What else is nearby?

There’s hardly any distinction between South Beach and Mid Beach, except the boutique hotels turn into resorts and it’s a lot calmer. Or is it? Behind closed doors, you’ll find some of Miami’s best restaurants, bars and clubs. This neighborhood is home to Broken Shaker and Eagle Room; the Edition Hotel and its underground bowling ally and skating rink, Basement; the Faena and its glamorous restaurants, lounge, spa, shops and forums; and, of course, the Fontainebleau, Miami’s most iconic resort.

South Beach South Beach free

With a nickname like the "Art Deco Playground," it's no wonder so many people flock to South Beach. Travelers see South Beach not only as one of the best vacation areas in Florida, but as one of the best in the country. Popular perception has somewhat pigeonholed the area as being reserved exclusively for the 24-hour partiers, but that's not necessarily the case. The truth is that South Beach (or SoBe, for short) welcomes anyone looking for pristine sand, amazing food and yes, a buzzing nightlife.

The options are limitless: you can spend the whole day shopping at boutiques, getting pampered at an opulent spa or just strolling along Ocean Drive . South Beach also hosts numerous festivals and events, including volleyball tournaments, Art Deco Weekend and music and art shows. Families can take the kids over to Watson Island about 4 miles over the McArthur Causeway to see the animals at Jungle Island or to play at the  Miami Children's Museum  for some educational fun.

Ocean Drive Ocean Drive free

One of the most famous thoroughfares in the city, the country, or maybe even the world, Ocean Drive is characterized by its distinct art deco buildings, its constant streams of crowds and its glittering hotel and club fronts in the nighttime. Suffice it to say that if you've booked a hotel  along Ocean Drive, you're guaranteed to be in the thick of things. Shopping, dining, beach activities and more are all right outside your hotel door.

Travelers say the best way to experience Ocean Drive is just by walking down the street, taking in the historic art deco hotels and storefronts and snapping some photos along the way. Day or night, visitors say you'll find something to do along Ocean Drive, whether it's dining outdoors steps from the ocean, grabbing a cocktail at a bar or dancing the night away at one of the clubs. Though, many warn that partaking in the revelry of food and drink along Ocean Drive does come with a high price tag. If you sign up for one of the best parasailing tours in Miami , you'll likely enjoy a bird's-eye view of Ocean Drive from the sky.

Lincoln Road Mall Lincoln Road Mall free

U.S. News Insider Tip: For the best affordable fare, take a slight detour off Lincoln Road to The Lincoln Eatery for a handful of fast-casual food booths or the top-rated Mister 01 Extraordinary Pizza, hidden inside of a South Beach office building on Michigan Avenue. – Lyssa Goldberg

Located on Lincoln Road, between Alton Road and Washington Avenue, the Lincoln Road Mall is a mile-long, can't-miss pedestrian shopping area. Originally envisioned as the "Fifth Avenue of the South," Lincoln Road attracted outposts of Burdines, Saks Fifth Avenue and Cadillac, and was transformed into only the second open-air mall in the United States by famed Miami Modern (MiMo) architect Morris Lapidus in the late 1950s. As artists flocked to Lincoln Road and brought visitors to the area, the pedestrian promenade experienced a resurgence as one of the premier streets in the nation by the late 1990s. The street offers a blend of several architectural styles, including Mediterranean Revival, art deco, midcentury modern, and has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

This is the beach and park area that fulfills all of South Beach 's stereotypes. Fit sunbathers, bikini-loving celebrities, supermodels (often occupied with a photo shoot) – all of the above crash on the beige-colored sand here, which runs along Ocean Drive from about 5th Street to 14th Street. Volleyball nets, beach gear rental kiosks and restrooms dot the area as well. The grassy stretch between Ocean Drive and the beach features plenty of palm trees, playgrounds and a winding paved pathway that attracts runners, bikers and rollerbladers. It's also the home of Muscle Beach, an outdoor fitness area for exercise, weight lifting and gymnastics located on the sand at 9th Street. Spending some time here will put you within walking distance of Ocean Drive's many restaurants and bars and allow you to experience the Art Deco District, in addition to the sun and sand.

The Wolfsonian-Florida International University The Wolfsonian-Florida International University

Located in the Art Deco Historic District and housed in a 1920s Mediterranean Revival building that is a South Beach landmark in its own right, the Wolfsonian-Florida International University is a multistory museum that explores the impact of art and design on world history through a collection of more than 200,000 objects. Focused on a century of transformation from 1850 to 1950, the collection of artifacts includes everything from everyday household appliances and furniture to groundbreaking architectural plans, propaganda posters and more.

Visitors enjoyed learning about 20th century design and seeing the display of art deco objects and political memorabilia. Some noted the museum's relatively small size means you can get a comprehensive look at the collection in about two hours. The indoor, air-conditioned museum is also a great place to escape the inevitable South Florida rain or humidity. At the gift shop, you can find design-oriented souvenirs, jewelry, clocks, kitchenware and books, including Wolfsonian publications. Travelers also recommended ordering a cappuccino or macchiato from the on-site coffee bar.

Holocaust Memorial Holocaust Memorial free

Located near the intersection of Dade Boulevard and Meridian Avenue, the Holocaust Memorial in South Beach is a moving tribute to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The idea was conceived by a small group of Holocaust survivors in 1984 and the memorial officially opened to the public in 1990. The site features a series of statues, architectural pieces, a garden of meditation and a memorial wall. The main sculpture features dozens of emaciated people reaching out for help, clinging to one another, that make up an outstretched arm reaching up to the sky.

Recent visitors echo one another, saying that Miami Beach's Holocaust Memorial moved them deeply and caused them to remember the importance of never forgetting the tragedy. Most travelers agree that you should stop by to see this beautiful tribute while you're in the area, citing the informative photo panels as ways to learn even more about this atrocity. There is also a brochure for self-guided tours available for a suggested $2 donation.

The Bass The Bass

Located in Collins Park steps from the beach, The Bass is a contemporary art museum on the northern end of South Beach featuring international contemporary art in a wide range of media, including sculpture, design, fashion and architecture. The small two-floor museum is housed in a 1930s art deco building that was formerly the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center. While exhibitions within the galleries change every few months, The Bass' permanent collection includes outdoor public art within Collins Park, headlined by artist Ugo Rondinone's Miami Mountain sculpture – five boulders stacked 42 feet high, each painted a different fluorescent color, that have become an iconic photo-op.

Visitors can scan QR codes throughout the museum to follow a self-guided tour from their phone, but guided tours must be reserved in advance for an additional fee. The museum also has a cafe serving coffee and light bites; a boutique bookstore and gift shop selling designer jewelry, accessories, art books and other unique gifts; and an education facility called the Creativity Center for programming and workshops.

Miami Children's Museum Miami Children's Museum

The Miami Children's Museum is located on a little island between downtown Miami and South Beach . Kid-friendly interactive exhibits are the focus of this museum, which caters to young children with things like a 6-foot piggy bank (to learn about financial literacy), the Castle of Dreams (a two-story sand castle with a winding slide designed to inspire imagination) and the Music Makers Studio (where children can learn how musical sounds are made), among several other engaging activities.

Families visiting Miami Beach say this is a great air-conditioned place to spend some time with younger kids, especially since many of the exhibits are so engaging. The museum offers fun activities for all ages, but parents said children ages 3 to 6 seemed to enjoy it more than the older ones. The downsides visitors noted were the high cost of admission (and having to pay for parking, too) and the limited food options available on-site. Recent travelers have also mentioned the museum could benefit from some updates.

Haulover Park Haulover Park

Clothing-optional Haulover has long been a favorite of laissez-faire residents and vacationers, but there's more to do here than nude sunbathing. You can fly kites, go charter fishing and even play volleyball at this shore located just north of Bal Harbour. And you don't have to strip to your birthday suit to enjoy this area, as there are also designated sections for swimsuit-clad beach bathing (the northern area of the beach is where you'll find nude sunbathers).

Most travelers said they enjoyed their time at Haulover Park, noting that it's a far more laid-back option than the busier South Beach . Some recent travelers expressed surprise at how friendly the people at the beach were, whether clothed or unclothed. If you don't bring your own gear, plan to part with at least $10 to $25 for beach and chair rentals, according to past visitors.

Ancient Spanish Monastery Ancient Spanish Monastery

Situated in North Miami Beach, this monastery has a storied past. Officially known as the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux, construction on the structure began in A.D. 1133 in northern Spain and was completed eight years later. It was inhabited by monks for nearly 700 years, but after a revolution in the 1830s, the monastery was taken over and sold. In 1925, the cloisters and the rest of the monastery were purchased by William Randolph Hearst and dismantled stone by stone to be shipped to the U.S., packed in more than 11,000 crates. After years of sitting in storage, the monastery was rebuilt in Miami over the course of 19 months with plans to turn it into a tourist attraction called the Ancient Spanish Monastery. (Time magazine called it "The Biggest Jigsaw Puzzle in History," as it involved over 35,000 stones.) It didn't do too hot as a tourist attraction alone, so it was sold to a local diocese and was turned into a church. Today, it's an active congregation that welcomes churchgoers and also acts as an attraction highlighting the monastery's beautiful architecture and its surrounding gardens.

If you're looking to escape the hubbub of South Beach , you can venture north to admire this tranquil monastery. Visitors love that its grounds are historic, quiet and serene, and say when the gardens are in full bloom it's truly a sight to see.

Where to Eat

Continental

Famed restaurateur Stephen Starr recently launched Continental (an outpost of his original Philly restaurant of the same name), in South Beach to much fanfare. Tucked into a tiki bar-meets-mid-century modern setting, the Continental will keep you stuffed silly with favorites like the lobster mac and cheese and cheesesteak egg rolls. Start your meal with one of Continental's classic cocktails, like the Astronaut martini, made with peach vodka and rimmed with orange Tang.

Arguably South Beach's most iconic restaurant, Joe's Stone Crab transformed from a tiny lunch counter in 1913 to one of Miami's most popular restaurants. Today Joe's ranks as one of America's highest-grossing establishments. What's the big draw? Stone crabs. Their sweet, meaty claws are only available seasonally from October through May. Joe's tuxedo-clad waiters also serve tasty plates of other seafood and shellfish, like oysters, as well as a surprising local's favorite: barbecue ribs.

36 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in South Beach, Miami

fun & unusual things to do in South Beach, Miami

  • 2 Pinterest

You may know about its dazzling white sands, inviting turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees.

You may even know about its great people-watching opportunities, its lavish buildings, and its nonstop stream of parties.

But there are many more things to do in South Beach, Miami than meet the eye.

Of course, there are plenty of outdoor activities – from golf and boating to yoga and fishing – that allow you to soak up that famously lovely Floridian weather.

But it’s also a great place to partake in the city’s booming art scene, with gorgeous galleries showcasing some of the most innovative works of the modern era.

And if you’re into museums, this neighborhood’s got you covered; delve into the history of Judaism, try out some optical illusions , or delve into the world of erotic art.

With such variety and decadence, it’s little wonder that this neighborhood is packed with many of the coolest things to do in Miami .

Grab some sunscreen and get ready to live the good life… South Beach style!

1 – Wander around South Pointe Park and Pier

South Pointe Park and Pier, South Beach, Miami

Start your trip off right with a day at South Pointe Park , where the great scenery is only matched by the wide variety of awesome activities.

Located at the very edge of Miami Beach, this lovely area would be worth visiting for the views alone, with great vistas of the downtown area, the cruise ports, and, of course, the beautiful shoreline.

If you’re seeking a traditional beach experience, this place has you covered; you can swim, surf, paddleboard, play volleyball, or just kick back and relax in the sand.

And if you want some quality photos, be sure to stop by South Pointe Pier, a visually striking boardwalk that’s also a great place to stroll around and enjoy the scenery.

You can even grab some bait and a line and go fishing off the dock!

Then head over to Obstinate Lighthouse, an artistic take on a nautical stronghold.

Made up of 19 irregularly stacked disks and crowned by a beacon of strobe lights, this distinctive structure pays homage to the role of lighthouses in coastal areas, and serves as a visual treat in its own right.

Throw in playgrounds, a dog park, and even a world-class steakhouse (Smith & Wollensky, which offers incredible views of the water), and you have all the makings of a great day out!

2 – Soak up the vibes at Miami Beach – South Beach

South Beach, Miami Beach

Another iconic stretch of sand, Miami Beach is a perfect spot to focus on some health and wellness.

Test your flexibility with a little bit of yoga , trying favorite poses and learning new techniques against a beautiful ocean backdrop.

And if you’d prefer an up-close view of the water, then give paddleboarding a whirl!

Glide around the bay and admire the opulent mansions, as well as the beauty of the nearby Sunset Islands.

Whether you’re stretching, swimming, sightseeing, or sunbathing, your trip to the beach will leave you refreshed – and ready for more adventures!

3 – Explore Lincoln Road on foot (or by bus)

Lik Fine Art Miami is a great example of the city’s thriving gallery scene, showcasing the remarkable photographs of renowned local artist Peter Lik.

If music’s more your speed, swing by the Lincoln Theatre , a splendid Art Deco building which once served as one of the city’s most prominent movie houses, and has experienced new life as a concert venue specializing in classical music.

Don’t miss the Antiques and Collectibles Market , a regular event in South Beach.

Don’t miss the contemporary wonders of Scope Miami Beach , a lively art show that focuses on experimental, genre-defying pieces from hundreds of artists.

6 – Shop around at Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive, South Beach, Miami

Among the many famous streets that run through this area, two of them stand out: Ocean Drive and neighboring Collins Avenue.

These roads are heaven on earth for shopaholics, with dozens of high-end boutiques selling the contemporary, luxurious clothing that has earned the city its reputation as an arbiter of cool.

You can also soak up some culture at the many art galleries, or grab a bite to eat at its acclaimed restaurants.

Looking to stay at a  prime art-centric hotel  at  the  heart of  South Beach, Miami ? Look no further, because  The Betsy Hotel  might be the one for you. I’ve heard about The Betsy for quite some time now, having friends who live and travel in the area, and knew I had to visit this  iconic hotel  one day. Initially, I expected the hotel to be newer but the hotel itself is actually very historic with an older, classic Miami feel. I decided to stay at this boutique hotel to see what the experience was like and if it was worth the hype. Well, it certainly is because I had the most pleasant experience while staying here.

The Betsy Hotel is located on the iconic  Ocean Drive  in South Beach where toursits attractions and interesting things to do are at every corner. The  emblematic architecture  and overall  ambiance  make the hotel stand out from the rest in the  Art Deco District  and possesses a magical touch. Being in such a prime location allows you to have access to a plethora of shops, restaurants, bars and of course the beach, just a few steps away.

The Local House hotel

The Local House Hotel   is perfect for any Miami getaway, regardless of how long you plan to visit. This South Beach quaint and charming hotel resides just a couple hundred feet away from Miami Beach and makes for an amazing tropical retreat.

This super laid-back, elegant and heavy beach-vibe hotel is perfect for small groups, girls trips or even a little staycation. It’s small enough for a more intimate experience, but offers an excellent atmosphere between the in-house restaurant, cozy rooms, private balconies and stunning rooftop views and pool . You really get the best of all worlds between the hotel accommodations , proximity to the beach and other hot-spots worth visiting .

The Plymouth Hotel

The Plymouth Hotel is located at  336 21st St, Miami Beach, FL 33139  and is  centrally located around Miami’s most recognized restaurants, shopping, nightlife  and more. It’s one of two  Small Luxury Hotels of the World  on the East Coast. And was also the 2019 Condé Nast Best Urban Hotel Winner. Aside from it’s prime location, tourists are attracted to this hotel in particular because of it’s  intimacy, charm, aesthetic and insta-worthy patio & pool.  The Plymouth stands out from other luxury hotels in the area and around the country with a rich history dating back to the 1940s. As a classic Art Deco Hotel with just 110 rooms, the intimate clubhouse feel with it’s oval-shaped lobby, cabana-inspired bar, onsite restaurant and outdoor European vibes makes for a truly unique experience.

Where to Eat in South Beach Miami

A trip to  South Beach Miami  would not be complete without the food. Believe it or not,  Miami is considered as one of the best food cities in the world.  One of the best parts about South Beach other than its culture, is the fact that there are a variety of restaurants both indoors and outdoors that include fresh local seafood, grilled chicken, roasted pork, tacos, chips & guacamole, key lime pie, strong coffee , and more. I’m drooling just thinking about it.

If you’re into outdoor seating, beautiful architecture, good vibes and delicious eats, South Beach is definitely for you. Whether you’re looking for breakfast lunch, dinner or dessert suggestions, we have you covered.

LT Steak & Seafood on-site dining

The Local House Restaurant

The Local House  happens to be one of my favorite spots in South Beach. Not only is it a  brunch and seafood restaurant , but it’s also a hotel! Make sure to check out my  hotel review  if you’re interested in staying at The Local House. It’s truly the perfect place for a South Beach getaway because of the accommodations, laid-back atmosphere, delicious food and proximity to the beach.

This restaurant in particular is super popular for brunch because of the  menu options, aesthetic  and of course the  mimosas . It’s a beautiful and quaint little restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. It’s also an ideal insta-worthy spot. Make sure to have your phone or camera ready because all the dishes are displayed so beautifully.

Now on to the food! The menu offers an array of choices ranging from brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour drinks. A few dishes I recommend trying include the  seafood scramble, avocado toast, key lime pie french toast, caramelized banana french toast, the lobster mac & cheese and the Mahi tacos.  They have excellent drinks too so whether you’re looking for an iced coffee, mimosa or cocktail for happy hour, they have some great selections.

The Local House offers in-room dining, takeout and delivery through third party apps like Uber Eats, Grub Hub and DoorDash.  Get directions to the restaurant here.

The Local House restaurant

If you’re looking for a  healthier option  in South Beach,  Pura Vida  is the way to go. This street-side, surf-themed restaurant is the perfect spot for lunch to grab some health-conscious juices, sandwiches and salads . Pura Vida is beautifully decorated and offers outdoor seating alongside a more local and non-touristy street.

This restaurant specifically thrives off their philosophy of using  fresh  and  simple ingredients.  Shopping consciously and responsibly and serving up local and  sustainable  food, is something they take pride in. It’s also meant to feel like an extension of home where you can eat in comfort with your friends and family.

Another great thing about Pura Vida is they offer  all-day breakfast  including different kinds of  breakfast toasts  like avocado, salmon and berry as well as  bagel sandwiches, fruit salads, acai bowls  and  overnight oats . I highly recommend ordering the  mango salmon bowl  or the  summer grilled chicken bowl  for lunch, as both are excellent and filling choices. They also have fresh pressed juices to help with  nutrition  and  hydration , especially in the heat of Miami.

Pura Vida offers outdoor dining (seat yourself), takeout and no-contact delivery.  Get directions to the restaurant here.

Must Try Food in South Beach Miami

Koa Poke and Burrito

This highly rated sushi restaurant with poke bowls, sushi burritos and acai bowls is a must-try for sure. Koa Poke and Burrito brings a healthy and fresh Hawaiin-style take on sushi and has a variety of options to choose from. With its hip, upbeat and casual Miami beach vibe, it’s the perfect place to stop in for a quick lunch before or after a day of shopping or being at the beach.

Highly recommend making your own poke bowl with high-quality, fresh ingredients or one of their tasty acai bowls. They serve all different types of beverages as well, including alcohol!

Koa Poke and Burrito offers outdoor dining, takeout and no-contact delivery. Get directions to the restaurant here.

Malibu Farm

Located right behind the luxurious  Nobu Miami , you’ll find  Malibu Farm  located right on the beach with break-taking  ocean views . Malibu Farm Miami is defined as the epitome of  laid-back luxury  and is an organic, American restaurant offering the taste of Hawaii in  simple, straight-forward ingredients.  The menu includes seafood, sandwiches, flatbreads, nachos and delicious finger foods. It’s the perfect spot for a light lunch or appetizer if you’re feeling a little hungry a few hours before dinner.

Popular food items include the  avocado pizza, chicken ricotta burger and the fish and shrimp tacos.  As if the appetizers and stunning views aren’t enough, they also have a  wide array of signature cocktails  with some of the most fresh and delicious drinks I’ve had. Highly recommend trying the  Passionfruit and Watermelon cocktail  (also available as a mocktail!)

Malibu Farm offers outdoor dining, takeout and no-contact delivery.  Get directions to the restaurant here.

LT Steak & Seafood

Hotel restaurants are some of my favorite and I believe they are highly underrated. While I also love venturing off to try restaurants in the area, I do believe  the on-site restaurant of a hotel says a lot about the integrity of the hotel  between the food, decor and staff.  LT Steak & Seafood  is an indoor and outdoor restaurant in the lobby of The Betsy offering a  casually elegant New American style.  After having 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner here, I came to the conclusion that it’s a fabulous restaurant, indeed. I love the ability to sit outdoors to enjoy the fresh air on Ocean Drive while people watching, but I also love the option to sit indoors where it’s cool. The staff is extremely kind and accommodating, so you’ll be taken care of regardless of where you choose to sit.

For breakfast they offer classic  sweet & savory brunch dishes, fresh juices, coffee made the way you like it  as well as  gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and dairy-free options.  The breakfast each morning was well-balanced and delicious with all the important food groups you need to start the day.

For dinner, they specialize in  steak & seafood  (hence the name) so we ordered  sushi . The sushi was fresh and delicious and paired well with the wine and beer we ordered. The prices of the meals are on the more expensive side but the  portions are huge and the flavors are delicious . You’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

The restaurant is open from 7:30-11am for breakfast, 11-2:30pm for lunch, 5:30-10pm for dinner and open at 11am on the weekends for brunch.

LT Steak & Seafood offers indoor and outdoor dining, takeout and no-contact delivery. Get directions to the restaurant here.

Joe's Stone Crab Restaurant

No proper visit to South Beach is complete without a trip to  Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant .  The  100-year, family-owned restaurant  has been attracting crowds longer than anyone can remember and it’s obvious why. It’s a fabulous restaurant in Miami that has created some of the best memories for people when visiting, in general. They even have an entire page dedicated to sharing your  Joe’s Memories . Whether you’re visiting for a celebration, family gathering, romantic dinner or dinner just because,  Joe’s Stone Crab has something for everyone.

Now when it comes to menu selections, you really can’t go wrong. But crowd favorites over the years include  stone crab claws, friend chicken, skirt steak  and of course, any of their  fresh seafood dishes . They also have excellent  key lime pie  for dessert, an absolute must-try in South Florida.

Joe’s Stone Crab offers indoor dining, takeout and no-contact delivery.  Get directions to the restaurant here.

Española Way

No foodie visit to Mimai is complete without a trip to Española Way , otherwise known as “historic Spanish village.” The palm-tree lined street with string lights hanging throughout goes back to the 1920s, creating a European feel and culture. Here you’ll find a ton of charming outdoor restaurants, shops, live entertainment and boutique hotels. It’s an extremely quaint and lively part of the city that you’ll want to experience at night.

We grabbed a table for dinner at Mercato Della Pescheria where we enjoyed happy hour specials and an Itlalian meal complete with fresh bread, Fettuccine Alfredo and a delicious aperol spritz.

Get directions to Española Way here.

Serena Rooftop

The famous  Moxy Hotel , just a few blocks over from Ocean Drive, hosts one of the hottest restaurant & bar,   Serena Rooftop . This classic and  laid-back yet sophisticated atmosphere  makes for a great night out under the sun and then the stars once you watch the sun go down. The rooftop offers  vibrant colors filled with lounges, seating areas and lush greens  to make for a truly cozy and fun place to hangout.

As far as the menu goes, you’ll get a variety to taste including  chips and guacamole, salsa verde, traditional Mexican ceviche, roasted pork, tostados and more.  The drinks are definitely flowing here. So  put on a cute outfit , head to the rooftop and treat yourself to some  margaritas  with salt on the rim.

Serene Rooftop offers indoor and outdoor dining and takeout but they do not offer delivery.  Get directions to the restaurant here.

The Sugar Factory

The Sugar Factory on Ocean Drive is a classic stop for a sweet treat. In fact, The Sugar Factory offers grab-and-go selections with novelty bulk candy, snow cones, gelato and ice cream sandwiches. They also offer a full menu with delicious food like pancakes, crepes, salads, and burgers. Famous treats to order include the King Kong Sundae, hot chocolate, frozen hot chocolate and decadent shakes.

One of the most appealing and fun elements, however, are their premium cocktail mixes with spiked adult beverages, including Sugar Factory’s signature alcohol-infused smoking candy goblets . These are so fun for a hot afternoon outdoors and make for a great experience on Ocean Drive.

The Sugar Factory offers indoor and outdoor dining, as well as delivery options. Get directions to the restaurant here.

  • Kiawah Island offers upscale luxury, pristine beaches, and world-class golf for a laid-back coastal retreat.
  • From Pawleys Island to Port Royal, explore historic towns, unspoiled beaches, and tranquil escapes along the coast.

South Carolina's coastline extends far beyond the bustling expanse of Myrtle Beach , offering something different for those yearning for quieter shores and charm. Along the state's coast, you'll find hidden gems, promising discerning travelers an alternative haven to unwind and explore.

While Myrtle Beach boasts popularity among sun-seekers , lesser-known coastal towns in South Carolina each bear their own allure, from the dunes of Kiawah Island to the storied streets of Beaufort. These towns offer pristine beaches, historic downtowns, and boundless coastal adventures beckoning travelers to embrace a more nuanced and enriching beach experience beyond the clamor of Myrtle Beach.

10 Scenic South Carolina Road Trips That Should Be On Your Bucket List

Kiawah island, pristine shores, rich biodiversity, and exclusive resorts provide a quieter, more upscale coastal experience.

Tucked along South Carolina's coastline, Kiawah Island stands as a serene alternative to the bustling crowds of Myrtle Beach. This private oasis has 10 miles of pristine, untouched beaches teeming with diverse wildlife. Visitors can partake in world-class golf at the island's renowned courses, kayak through waterways, or simply unwind amid the island's natural splendor.

Unlike the commercialized atmosphere of Myrtle Beach, Kiawah Island offers a luxurious yet laid-back retreat, where guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Lowcountry. With its exclusive resorts, upscale dining, and abundance of outdoor activities, Kiawah Island promises a truly rejuvenating coastal getaway.

Sullivan's Island

Boasting a rich history, a charming small-town atmosphere, and stunning views of the iconic sullivan's island lighthouse.

Unlike the commercialized feel of Myrtle Beach, this quaint island that is closer to Charleston, offers a more authentic and intimate beach experience along South Carolina's shores.

Visitors can soak up the sun at its family-friendly beaches, explore the island's historic sites like the iconic Sullivan's Island Lighthouse and Fort Moultrie, or enjoy fresh seafood and local cuisine at charming waterfront restaurants.

With its coastal cottages and picturesque views, Sullivan's Island invites travelers to unwind and savor the slower pace of coastal living, providing a unique respite from the crowds and development of Myrtle Beach.

Pawleys Island

A laid-back, low-key vibe characterized by centuries-old oak trees, quaint beachfront cottages, and historic hammock shops.

Located 70 miles south of Myrtle Beach and 25 miles north of Hilton Head, Pawleys Island offers a tranquil escape from the tourist crowds. Renowned for its laid-back vibe and unspoiled beaches, Pawleys Island exudes a timeless coastal charm that appeals to those seeking a more authentic and peaceful beach experience.

Pawleys Island invites visitors to stroll along its pristine shores, explore the charming Pawleys Island Historic District lined with 18th-century homes, or indulge in fresh seafood and local cuisine at quaint waterfront restaurants.

With its rich history, natural beauty, and slower pace of life, Pawleys Island provides a refreshing alternative for travelers looking to immerse themselves in a more relaxed characteristic of the Lowcountry, away from the crowds of more popular beach destinations.

Edisto Beach

Pristine marshlands, tranquil beaches, and historic estates provide a secluded and authentic coastal escape.

Situated along South Carolina's eastern coast, Edisto Beach offers a peaceful alternative to Myrtle Beach. Considered one of the few remaining family-oriented, gently developed beach towns on the eastern coastline of South Carolina, Edisto Beach promises a relaxing coastal retreat for travelers seeking a quieter escape.

With its laid-back vibe and natural beauty, Edisto Beach provides a unique coastal experience without the bustling development found at Myrtle Beach. Notably, there are no lifeguards along Edisto Beach, and it's truly an unspoiled stretch of South Carolina's coastline.

Antebellum architecture, rich Gullah culture, a vibrant arts scene, and historic landmarks

Steeped in a complex history rooted in the antebellum era, Beaufort offers a unique and enriching getaway away from the crowds of Myrtle Beach.

Filled with antebellum mansions, art galleries, and fine dining, Beaufort's downtown districts exude timeless Southern charm. Beyond its captivating architecture, the town is known for its excellent fishing ( comparable to that in Myrtle Beach ) and thriving golfing culture.

Visitors can explore Beaufort's storied past, admire its scenic waterfront, and savor the town's moderate climate with outdoor meals and park enjoyment year-round. By embracing both its storied past and vibrant present, Beaufort provides a refined coastal experience far from the bustle of more popular beach destinations.

10 Truly Underrated Towns In South Carolina That Deserve To Be Explored

The Isle of Palms boasts pristine beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. At just 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, this barrier island is known for its clean waters, abundant natural wildlife, and world-class resorts, spas, golf courses, and dining.

Visitors can soak up the sun on the island's family-friendly beaches, tee off at championship golf courses, or explore the natural beauty of nearby barrier islands. The Shem Creek Boardwalk, a popular dining and drinking district, also offers panoramic views of the marsh and Charleston Harbor.

Travelers might even spot local resident Bill Murray taking in the island's upscale, yet laid-back atmosphere. Located just 12 miles from Charleston and 90 miles from Savannah, Isle of Palms provides a serene coastal escape within easy reach of major cities.

Picturesque coastal charm, steeped in history as one of the oldest settlements in the New World

The town of Port Royal, located south of Beaufort and just north of Parris Island, offers a serene alternative to the busier coastal destinations of South Carolina. Part of the greater Hilton Head Island-Bluffton area, Port Royal is one of the most underrated towns in America, featuring a slightly slower pace than its popular neighbors Beaufort and Charleston.

While the town itself is relatively small, it boasts plenty of natural and cultural attractions for visitors to explore, including the Cypress Wetlands , a gorgeous coastal environment teeming with diverse birdlife, as well as Sands Beach, where amateur beachcombers can hunt for shark's teeth and other treasures along the lengthy wooden pier.

Movie cars, vintage cars, pricey cars this weekend at the Barrett-Jackson auction and show

Whether you're fast, furious or just nostalgic, for all things four-wheels, this is your moment to get up close and personal — and possibly even drive — the object of your desires. The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction has returned to the South Florida Fairgrounds. The show and auction runs from Thursday to Saturday.

Barrett-Jackson's chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson, said the company is excited to return to Palm Beach County, fueled by the success of the January auction in the company's hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona.

"We come off our biggest Scottsdale auction ever, and we have a great line-up of cars this year," Jackson said.

Barrett-Jackson in West Palm Beach: Three days, more than 600 cars and a tank

The three-day event features over 600 vehicles including a 1983 Honda ATC 110 three-wheeler and rare vintage cars such as the 1959 Cadillac El Dorado Brougham — one of 99 ever built.

"Across the board we have movie cars, the '68 challenger from 'Joe Dirt,' and a lot of very high end sports cars…multiple new Ford GTs coming over the auction block, Ferraris," Jackson said. "Barrett-Jackson is a little bit of everything."

Jackson said this year's lineup will also include a vehicle never sold before by Barrett-Jackson, a decommissioned but fully functional 1976 Leopard Battle Tank.

"It's fully restored, you can drive it around," Jackson said. "It's quite the piece."

Also up for auction are 11 vehicles from local celebrity and car enthusiast John Staluppi's "Cars of Dream Collection," including a 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire that features a striking maroon exterior with matching leather upholstery.

At Barrett-Jackson auction: Not just autos, but also 'automobilia'

The auction isn't limited to just automobiles, Jackson said, noting that hundreds of pieces of vintage automobile memorabilia, or "automobilia," are included in the auction's docket.

"Gas pumps, gas signs, '50s diner items, they're all authentic, original," Jackson said.

Unlike many auctions, he said, all vehicles and "automobilia" up for auction at Barrett-Jackson are marked as no reserve, meaning they will be sold at the price set before the hammer drops for the auction.

"So the last person with their hand in the air, if it's their dream car, they will own it," Jackson said.

How to bid at the Barrett-Jackson auction, and what to do if you aren't

To participate in the auction, bidders must have the required pre-registration forms, state-issued identification, insurance and payment method ready on-site.

For those not planning to participate in the auction, there's plenty more to check out. Vendors will be on hand selling a host of products such as hand carved sculptures, custom jewelry and unique home décor.

The 7 Most Romantic Coastal Escapes For Couples

visit south beach

North Carolina

South carolina.

Courtesy of Bungalows Key Largo

The South is an inherently romantic place for its natural beauty, incredible architecture, award-winning food, and luxurious hotels and resorts. If you’re planning (or just daydreaming about) a special getaway with your significant other, the choices can almost be overwhelming—especially if spending time at the beach is a must. For many people, a trip for two requires unlimited sunshine and sand .

If that’s the case for you, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite coastal destinations for romance. Options include tropical hot spots, quaint fishing villages, resort towns, and remote islands. Some places offer stays with all the amenities you could ask for. Others are more tied to nature, and will appeal to active folks who love to be outdoors. And some are just sweet little towns ideal for reconnecting.

Whatever destination you choose, you and your partner will want to return again and again.

This charming Gulf Coast town offers laid-back leisure and plenty of luxury—the best of both worlds for a romantic getaway. Fairhope’s waterfront sunsets, ancient oak trees draped in live moss, and charming town square will put you two in a vacation state of mind as soon as you arrive. Spend some time browsing downtown shops, enjoy some lemony beignets in the courtyard at Panini Pete’s , then check in at the nearby Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa for pampering, pool time, and all the amenities you could ask for.

With its manicured courtyards, turquoise waters, and stark white buildings inspired by Bermudian architecture, Alys Beach offers Florida sunshine and shorelines, but looks like some place else entirely. Located off of Highway 30A , Alys Beach has a more secluded and slower-paced vibe than nearby towns like Rosemary Beach and Seaside. Part of this is due to the lack of hotels and high-rises. If you stay here, it will be in a beautifully appointed house or condo. Not only will you have more privacy, you’ll feel a bit like a local as you stroll the quaint boutiques and dine at the charming George’s At Alys Beach .

Bungalows Key Largo

A popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving, Key Largo is also home to Bungalows , an adults-only, all-inclusive resort that is as romantic as a beach vacation can possibly be. Choose a private bungalow with an ocean or garden view, and enjoy private outdoor soaking tubs, a full-service spa, two pools with jacuzzis, beachside dining, plus yoga classes and access to bicycles, kayaks, snorkel gear, and more. It’s the ideal place for sun and fun, or to do absolutely nothing at all.

Anna Maria Island

If staying at a sprawling beach resort isn’t your style, and you prefer an easy-going beach town where you can spend the weekend in flip flops, try this lovely little island off Florida’s west coast. Anna Maria Island is big on old Florida charm, with its mom-and-pop shops, spotless public beaches, and waterfront bars and restaurants. Stay the night in a retro cottage , enjoy some oysters at the pier, and book a boat tour to go dolphin watching. A free trolley provides transportation throughout the island, making your vacation even more stress-free.

Cumberland Island

If you’re looking for a place to completely disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with your significant other, this island off the coast of Georgia is designed for just that. To get there, you’ll need to take a ferry from Fernandina Beach, and book a stay (well in advance) at the Greyfield Inn , the only hotel and commercial business on the island . The all-inclusive property, originally built by the Carnegie family in 1890, has 15 rooms and two cottages, and feels like staying in a grand old home—complete with a cocktail hour and communal meals. Surrounding the inn are more than 200 acres of incredible scenery including beaches, wild horses, historical ruins, forests, and wetlands, to name a few. You’ll want to stay here forever.

This quaint fishing town is beloved by its residents and Southern Living readers for its walkability, lovely historic district, good food, and friendly atmosphere. For a low-key trip where you can spend plenty of time outside and on the water, Beaufort is a wonderful option. Rent a kayak, go birdwatching, catch the sunrise from the boardwalk, have an alfresco meal at Beaufort Grocery Co., and stay at the comfortable, locally-owned Inn On Turner .

Isle of Palms

Charleston is a year-round destination for couples, and for good reason—the luxurious hotels, chef-driven restaurants, and breathtaking architecture can put anyone in a romantic mood. But the tourist-heavy city can also be busy and crowded. Instead, enjoy some peace and quiet and beach time at nearby Isle of Palms . Located a short drive away from downtown Charleston, this barrier island has seven miles of gorgeous shoreline where you might even spot a dolphin or two. Wild Dunes Resort and the Palms Oceanfront Hotel offer lodging options on or close to the water. And if you still want to take a day trip to Charleston, we don't blame you.
