Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Tour: The Design Process & My Honest Thoughts

Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Tour by Popular LA Lifestyle Blogger Alicia Tenise | Photo of woman with a glass of rosé wine wearing a pink Sezane maxi dress

I can’t believe it’s been two years since I packed up my life and moved across the country to Los Angeles . I love living on the West Coast, and the transition has been surprisingly easy. While I miss my family and friends back East, I don’t miss the weather!

I knew I wanted to live in Downtown Los Angeles before I even moved out to LA. It seemed like a natural fit as an East Coaster: it’s walkable, has easy access to several freeways, and is super easy to get to LAX from DTLA with a toll/HOV pass. Plus, I lived within walking distance of Crypto.com Arena, the Staples Center (IYKYK), and the Convention Center, making attending concerts, games, and special events easy.

I recently moved out of this apartment, but it was a special place that I loved calling home during my first two years in LA. Here is my Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Tour , some tips on how to find an apartment in LA, and my honest thoughts on DTLA living.

Downtown los angeles apartment tour: how to find the perfect apartment in la.

I moved to LA in the spring of 2021, and with COVID restrictions, I honestly wasn’t comfortable flying out to apartment hunt before my move. I booked an Airbnb for a month instead of moving straight into an apartment to see places in person and get a feel for the neighborhood I moved into.

I did some research before the move and fell in love with the apartment complex I ultimately moved into before ever seeing it in person. It was pretty new, and after touring, my partner and I learned that we would be the first people to move into our unit. We looked at a few more apartment buildings downtown, but it was tough to get a hold of leasing agents (something I also experienced during this moving process). While I reached out to several complexes, I only managed to secure a tour of a handful of them. You have to be persistent when apartment hunting in LA!

For this recent move, I ended up contacting a broker in addition to doing my own tours at bigger complexes, and I’d highly recommend my broker — Thania . She was attentive, got us in to tour some incredible spots, and was very responsive!

Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Tour: My Honest Thoughts on Living in DTLA

When I told people I lived in Downtown Los Angeles, I got some pretty extreme reactions: some people thought I lived on Skid Row, and some people were curious, as they knew it was an up-and-coming neighborhood.

Let’s talk about safety in DTLA. The high-rises in DTLA are secure — my building had a doorman, and residents had limited key-fob acesss (you could only access your floor, amenities floors, and the parking garage level), so I wasn’t even able to buzz myself up to my friend’s floors.

I felt safe in my apartment complex, but you must also have some common sense living in an inner city. Walking to the stadium for a game at night with friends was okay because there were thousands of people out. Walking alone at night? I wouldn’t recommend doing that anywhere, even if you live in a small town. Uber/Lyft/other rideshare options can get you around safely.

Some pros of living in DTLA: I had easy access to several freeways, so I could quickly get around town. Visiting my friends in the valley? No problem. Getting to the airport? A breeze. Yes, I was sitting in traffic quite a bit, but having a direct route to pretty much anywhere in the area was great. I also lived within walking distance of three different grocery stores, Sephora, Target, Sweetgreen, and Mendocino Farms…it was super easy to run errands here!

Let’s talk about some of the cons of living in DTLA (specifically, near the convention center and stadiums): A few events were happening near us at times, and street closures would prevent us from driving outside of our neighborhood (the president, VP, and other world leaders were hosted at events near our old apartment, and we pretty much had to cancel all of our plans when that happened!)

After chatting with some people who had lived in DTLA for a while, it seems that DTLA never really recovered fully from the pandemic and lockdown. It used to be a lot more bustling, but now, there are a bunch of empty high-rise office buildings, and it just feels quieter. Restaurants near me closed for lockdown, and some never opened back up. I found myself hanging out in the Arts District of DTLA more, which was only 10 minutes away from my old apartment. It felt more local, had some of the best restaurants in the city, and had more mom-and-pop businesses than big chain stores and eateries.

Shannon Claire Interiors

Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Tour: The Design Process

Even though I’ve moved quite a bit, I still wanted this apartment to feel like home. I hired Shannon Claire to design my living room since we had a few challenges with organizing the space. I also hired Alia from The Styled Stories for professional organizing. These two ladies were lifesavers in getting this apartment together, and I hope to work with them soon! Shannon offers virtual design packages, while Alia services clients in the LA area.

When I moved cross-country, I sold almost all of my furniture and only brought my bed, desk, and other small pieces. It was nice to have a fresh start in the new space! I downsized from a 2500-sq ft townhome in Virginia to a 950 sq ft one-bedroom apartment in LA, so getting rid of things before moving was essential. I’m so glad I didn’t try to bring too many furniture pieces from my old space!

I wanted to add color to my living room, but I didn’t want to paint or add wallpaper this time since I knew we’d outgrow our plane quickly, so Shannon found some fun, colorful options for me! We had two rounds of the design process, and I combined pieces from both designs to create something fun and my own.

Alright, alright: I think it’s time to get into the actual apartment tour now!

This is the money shot and what convinced me to rent this apartment. This corner unit got incredible light, and we had a pretty ample, open space. This space also doubled as an office, and I placed my desk here and some shelves for additional storage.

We wanted the couch to face out to the windows and not mount the TV to the wall, so we found this Samsung Serif TV with a sleek design to easily move around the space. I will candidly say that Samsung does not have the best customer service, and the TV arrived with a broken remote that they never replaced (despite multiple calls, emails, and chats), so even though the product is beautiful, I probably won’t buy another Samsung TV again.

This kitchen drove me crazy, but we made it work to the best of our ability. For some reason, there was only one drawer in the entire kitchen. ONE!! Most of my kitchen appliances were left in storage.

I bought this island from IKEA for some extra storage, and it doubled nicely as a kitchen table. I always desperately need extra wine storage, so I moved the wine fridge I had in Virginia over to the new space.

Okay, this bedroom was never finished and is bland. I was advised not to hang art above the bed just in case of earthquakes, so I was thinking of using a peel-and-stick wallpaper behind the bed to give this space some extra oomph, but I never got around to it.

I will say: this closet was AMAZING, and I miss it so, so much. It holds so much. You can view a closet tour over on my TikTok .

I Completely Redecorated My 350-Square-Foot Living Space to Fit My Family of 3

Sacha Strebe is a former editorial director for MyDomaine and has been writing about home and interior design for eight years. She is currently the editorial director at Create & Cultivate.

los angeles apartment tour

I distinctly recall a moment in our  living room earlier this year when I turned to my husband, Troy, and said, "It's high time we decorated a home we're proud to live in and truly reflects who we are." Three years prior, we moved to Los Angeles from Melbourne, and all of our focus and money went into building a life here. Now that we're working in roles and companies we love (I'm MyDomaine's editorial director, and my husband is the senior wash designer at Paige denim), and our 10-year-old son, Neon, is settled in at school, we're finally ready to create a space we can't wait to come home to.

While I loved aspects of our home before, I really felt it was time we took a grown-up approach and created a space that was warm and cozy yet elevated and cool. Our bedroom desperately needed a makeover too, but this project wasn't about speed. It was about getting it right and taking our time to find the things we love. So we opted to focus on the living and dining areas first, and I'm so glad we did. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the area's small size—350 square feet, to be exact—would make designing easier, but in fact, it just upped the intensity of the challenge.

We had relocated as a family several times before moving to L.A., and each time we just bought the bare necessities with a few vintage flea-market finds peppered in. We never really thought about designing the space from scratch. This time, I was ready to sell everything and start over.

I had an idea in my head of what I wanted, but I also needed to consult Troy. My husband has incredible taste, and while we often agree, there were moments where we had to negotiate and compromise. Needless to say, navigating the redecorating process with a partner was a whole new experience. I'm sure many of you reading this can relate.

So to help us steer this new design ride in the right direction, we decided to enlist the help of an interior designer. I always knew I had an eye for design (and I know what I like), but you need more than good taste to create a stylish space. That much I know for sure. I've always admired Tali Roth's work . The Homepolish designer is a fellow Aussie, so I knew we'd get along, but her contemporary and clean aesthetic is what really sold me. I knew the two of us could create some interior design magic—and we did!

She also taught me so much about the process along the way. For example, I had no idea how to create a floor plan or that we even needed one, and that it would take about five months to redecorate the living and dining rooms from start to finish—here are a few things I learned. So without further ado, take the tour of our modern Los Angeles apartment with some style notes from Roth and me on how to decorate a small space.

CREATE A FLOOR PLAN

Like every successful creative project, you need to start with a plan. Even though we were only designing the living and dining rooms (which is basically one open-plan room), Roth was adamant about drawing up four simple floor plans first. "Over time it has become my rule as a designer," she told me. "The floor plan has to make sense and work with the space, and it has to be decided upon before you can graduate to selecting the actual furniture pieces."

Roth stressed a floor plan is even more important with small spaces. "It can dramatically impact how the spaces flow and feel," she said. "After we workshopped four plans, we ultimately decided on a plan that was similar to Sacha's existing layout but with a more 'structured' approach, meaning we added proper coffee tables, a rug, two armchairs, and a round dining table."

CONSIDER LAYERS, COMFORT, AND TEXTURE

In smaller homes, Roth prioritizes comfort. "Sometimes people overlook that and it's a shame," she said. "There is nothing worse than feeling as though you can't sit down and chill. Aside from purchasing upholstered furniture that is genuinely comfortable, adding texture helps to create a feeling of warmth and comfort."

For example, the rug from Armadillo & Co . is super soft to touch (I really wanted something Neon and I could play on, and I fell in love with this Aussie design at first touch), the Borge Mogensen–inspired hunting chairs from Chairish are draped in Icelandic sheepskins from Jenni Kayne to ensure that they have an extra layer, and the Mantis BS2 wall lamp from  Design Within Reach sets a warm mood that feels as good as it looks.

STAY TRUE TO YOUR AESTHETIC

After years of traveling and trawling vintage flea markets around the world, my husband and I have honed in on our aesthetic and crafted a collection of interesting decorative items along the way. Roth wanted to fuse these with modern pieces to create a space that was uniquely us. "They collected these pieces over time, so it wouldn't make sense to design a stark apartment that couldn't house these gorgeous symbols of their life adventures and experiences," she said.

"They're also really creative people who care about aesthetics. They don't do crazy color and both have a timeless sense of style that is monochromatic and thoughtful. Their home needed to reflect that. I really feel that what we were able to achieve a stylish apartment that is simply a grown-up version of what they had before."

ADD PERSONALITY WITH ART AND SENTIMENTAL PIECES

On top of the personal touches, Roth suggests filling your space with art too. "I like to call it organized chaos," she confessed. "Sacha and Troy have so many books they love, so many collected crystals from their trips to Arizona, with love scents and candles (and you know they actually use them because they are burnt right down). The record player is central to their family lives, and all of this makes their space feel so much vaster—there are so many 'nooks and crannies' to engage with."

Some of Roth's favorite pieces are those that Troy made in art school. "They fit effortlessly with the new décor because they are authentic," she added. We searched high and low for the right artwork to fill the large blank wall above the sofa. It was especially important to both of us that this artwork reflected Troy and me but also paired well with the furniture and architecture of our apartment.

So we called on the help of Uprise Art. Its team curated a selection of artists based on the modern mood board we created. Then we asked our community to help us choose. After much deliberation, we went with a striking large-scale abstract work by the Utah-based artist  Holly Addi . She custom painted the most incredible piece that really made the room come alive and brought much-needed cohesion to the space. I am truly honored to have Addi's work hanging in our home.

BALANCE OLD AND NEW

Roth believes interesting spaces are always a balance of the high end with the high street, the old with the new. The dining table by Consort Design and the  Crosland and Emmons custom handmade ceramic pendant above it are both super high end and from small bespoke designers while the dining chairs (also beautiful and high quality) are from CB2.

"The entire apartment has this mix, and the end result is a home that feels familiar and a little nostalgic, but you haven't seen any of the pieces everywhere," said Roth. "The balance of old and new is crucial along with that mix of high end and high street. Remember when decorating to try and do one-third vintage, one-third high street, and one-third custom or similar—it's the perfect mix."

It's important to consider this high-low mix when designing your coffee table. We chose a marble coffee table from  Lulu & Georgia  with a nesting side table of the same style and layered decorative items from our personal collection (e.g., crystals and books) with newer pieces from West Elm  and Cinnamon Projects .

USE MIRRORS TO OPEN UP THE ROOM

Since the living room wall was covered in Addi's artwork (and a Banksy we already owned), we needed a different plan for the opposite wall. Roth suggested an  oversize round mirror  instead, which would reflect that artwork and give more dimension to the space. She was right. It wasn't until we hung it up that I realized the massive difference it makes. I am so unbelievably happy with this purchase, and it looks so chic and clean above the wooden  credenza . The  floor lamp  adds just the right amount of light too, especially when my husband is spinning records at night.

Since we didn't have much space for a bookshelf, Roth advised we install some metal wall shelves and display our favorite covers like artwork. I already had my  Russh  magazine collection in a perspex box so we moved it into this corner, put a small  task lamp on top, and hung Troy's classical guitar in between. Now it's become one of my  favorite places to sit and read (or work) while listening to records.

DON'T OVERFILL IT

From the moment we started working with Roth, I started sending her links and images of things I loved to get her opinion. It triggered an obsession. Thankfully, Roth was a true professional and reminded me of the floor plan and square-footage we were working with when my wish list (and budget) started to be disproportionately larger than reality. But more than that, Roth was intent on curating a space that was brimming with personality yet still felt minimal and livable.

We thought through each piece carefully and discussed where it would go, what its purpose was, and why it needed to be in the space before making the purchase. One of the more extravagant pieces that I've had on my list for a while is the Echasse floor vase . I knew it would fit the theme of the room but wasn't sure about how. Thankfully Roth was equally obsessed, so we nestled it behind the dining table next to an aged log we already had and filled it with pampas grass. I couldn't be happier.

TAKE TIME TO FIND THE RIGHT DESIGNER

When the opportunity to work with Hompepolish came up, I knew straightaway I wanted Roth as our designer. We've featured a few of her projects on MyDomaine—you should see her modern NYC loft —and her style fits our aesthetic seamlessly but also offers a unique perspective that I knew would challenge ours. The only issue is I was based in L.A., and she was based in NY. Homepolish shared a few other local designers with me, but I just didn't feel the same connection.

So we reached out to Roth to see if she could design the space with me remotely, and thankfully, the distance wasn't a deterrent for her at all. We kept in constant communication throughout the entire process, hopping on regular calls to go through the plan and the pieces I'd ordered. Then Roth flew out here the week of the photo shoot to put on the finishing touches.

After being through this lengthy process firsthand, I can't stress enough how important it is to work with someone who gets you, your vision, and your aesthetic because when you do, they can work with you from anywhere to create interior magic. Don't compromise. It's just not worth it, and you'll end up with a place that doesn't feel like home.

Roth agreed. "The right designer and client fit are so important," she stresses. "It's the most personal relationship, and you need to make sure that you aren't paired with someone who will pull you in any direction that you don't feel is authentically you. It's not the result that's important to me but the process of how we got there. Both I and my clients learn a lot throughout the process. My takeaway from this particular project was that this is a very special family,  and  it's so important to collect things over time. I always knew that to be true, but I was strongly reminded of it with Sacha and Troy."

REMEMBER FAMILY-FRIENDLY CAN ALSO BE CHIC

Since our apartment is also home to our 9-year-old son, we wanted the space to feel elevated yet cozy with pieces that weren't so elevated that he couldn't touch or play around them. Of course, he isn't a toddler anymore, so it was much easier for us to design a space knowing there is less chance of him spilling drinks or dropping food on the rug.

The sofa is my husband's design, so he sewed the cushions out of a durable canvas fabric that can easily be thrown in the washing machine if there is an accident. (Very handy given the ecru color, which isn't always so easy to keep clean with a family). I think we managed to find a happy compromise between chic and cozy when decorating our space for a family.

Your guide to Los Angeles

Introduction.

Los Angeles is the ultimate insider's city, as first-time visitors quickly discover. The sprawl of strip malls and apartment buildings can seem anonymous and daunting until you consult friends or online guides who can direct you to the city’s electric cultural and artistic life. Los Angeles’s racial and ethnic diversity make it one of the most exciting culinary destinations in America, whether your appetite leads you to Korean, regional Mexican, or Persian food. One day may bring you to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for a stroll, and the next day on a strenuous hike in Topanga Canyon. Downtown Los Angeles’s art museums attract global attention for their forward-thinking collections. You can also spend several days walking — yes, walking — around Silver Lake or Beverly Hills, dipping into boutiques and stopping at cafes.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Los Angeles

Idyllic weather is one of the reasons Los Angeles became the film industry capital, and you can count on heat and sun for most of the year when you’re on vacation here. There’s a reason so many Angelenos wear sunglasses and carry water bottles.

After a hazy month of June (the locals call it “June Gloom”), LA’s hot season lasts between July and late September, when the average daytime temperatures are in the 80s Fahrenheit. Spring and fall deliver weather that is slightly cooler, but still pleasant enough for short sleeves and light clothing. December through February is the rainy season, when the lows can dip into the 40s. Your consolation is seeing the city’s gold hills turn bright green.

Top things to do in Los Angeles

Griffith park.

Los Angeles’s biggest park is more of a district, with more than 4,000 acres of trails, attractions, and serene picnic spots. You can wander around the famous Griffith Observatory, the backdrop to dozens of famous movie scenes, or bring your children to the historic Merry-Go-Round carousel. The western edge of the park includes several steep trails climbing to the Hollywood Sign.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

You’re more likely to see a celebrity at some vegan cafe in Silver Lake than here, but the frayed glamour of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip still exerts its charm. Check the schedule to see if the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre is offering tours and screenings, or wander along Hollywood Boulevard, looking down to see whose famous handprints are pressed into the concrete.

The Getty Center

Half of the reason people take the tram up to the Getty is for the museum’s art collections, which favor Greek and Roman statues and European paintings from the medieval era through the 19th century. The other is the setting: You can spend an hour or two meandering through the cultivated gardens, admiring a landscape that stretches to every horizon.

Affordable housing complex for entertainment workers in Hollywood now open

The building's unit prices start at $600 per month for a studio and go up to $2,400 for a 3-bedroom.

Sophie Flay Image

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- With unit prices starting at $600, artists can live steps away from Hollywood Boulevard at a new low-income housing complex.

The all-new Cicely Tyson residential building on Hollywood's Schrader Boulevard offers first-of-its-kind affordable housing units exclusively for entertainment workers.

"You don't get to meet a lot of artists walking around every day, and so being a part of that is so special to me, because you just, you feel their vibes, and then you get that inspiration as well," said new tenant Irene Lim.

Also known as the Hollywood Arts Collective, the building's unit prices start at $600 per month for a studio and go up to $2,400 for a 3-bedroom.

"We thought, 'Why not create for those who are in the entertainment community since they really need affordable housing as well?" said Jordan Pynes, the president of the building's developer Thomas Safran and Associates.

The seven-year project cost about $625,000 per unit, the developer said.

"This was a property that was owned by the city of Los Angeles. It was a parking lot and we decided to replace that parking and then build affordable housing above. So this is really the answer," Pynes said. "This is a public-private partnership and the way affordable housing needs to be created in the city of Los Angeles."

One major donor in attendance at the grand opening: Glorya Kaufman, the founder of the USC Kaufman School of Dance. Aside from the 152 units, the building has outdoor space, a gym, laundry room and a piano in the lobby donated by actress Joely Fisher.

"We must support our creative economy and the people who sustain it," said Emma Howard of City Council District 13.

The construction of the Rita Moreno Arts Building is still underway next door to the Hollywood Arts Collective, which will boast a theater and nonprofit arts gallery. It will be open to residents and the public upon its completion in the fall of 2025.

Dornoch holds off Mindframe to win the 156th Belmont Stakes in an upset

Dornoch with Luis Saez riding, crosses the finish line ahead of Mindframe to win the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes.

In a Triple Crown year in which the unpredictable became the predictable, it was only fitting that the winner of the 156th Belmont Stakes was a long shot.

Forgotten was a Kentucky Derby where the morning-line favorite (Fierceness) finished 15th and Mystik Dan won by a nose likely because the second- and third-place horses kept bumping into each other down the stretch.

Not forgotten is 88-year-old trainer Wayne Lukas winning his seventh Preakness with Seize the Grey , a horse with more than 2,500 owners and a jockey who was an apprentice last year.

And on Saturday, Dornoch , whose last two races could charitably be called underwhelming, pulled a major upset at 17-1 to etch his name in the history of thoroughbred racing by winning the Belmont Stakes.

los angeles apartment tour

One other thing. The 1½-mile Belmont Stakes was actually run at 1 ¼ miles and the race wasn’t run at its namesake Belmont but at Saratoga.

Whew. What a year.

Seize the Grey and Mystik Dan were also in Saturday’s Belmont but finished seventh and eighth.

Regardless if this was good or bad for a sport that is starved for stars and scrambling for relevance, it was good for trainer Danny Gargan and jockey Luis Saez. It was Gargan’s first Triple Crown race win and the second for Saez, both in the Belmont Stakes.

The race started as expected with both Dornoch and Seize the Grey going for the lead. In the Preakness, Seize the Grey was able to maintain that lead for the win. But on Saturday, he started to falter on the far turn. That left Dornoch in front with a better-than-expected Mindframe chasing with resolve and the favorite, Sierra Leone, starting to unwind his late charge. With a half-mile to go, Sierra Leone was 10th in a field of 10. By the top of the stretch, he was third, a position he never improved upon.

“We wanted to be on the lead,” Gargan told the New York Racing Assn. press office. “In the Derby the one-hole got us. He broke a touch slow. Right after, Brian [Hernandez on Mystik Dan] came over and we got checked out of there. It’s game over then [and we finished 10th].

“Three days later, we got him up [to Saratoga] and pointed for this race. We trained him and tried to do everything the best we could. He was training phenomenal. He worked great here. We got overlooked a little bit because he ran one bad race. Now, they’ll look at us a little more next time, hopefully.”

The final order of finish, after Dornoch was Mindframe, Sierra Leone, Honor Marie, Antiquarian, Protective, Seize the Grey, Mystik Dan, The Wine Steward and Resilience. Dornoch paid $37.40 to win.

“I’m still taking it in, it’s pretty exciting,” Gargan said. “It’s a special thing just to be a part of these races, not to mention to win one with a horse you bought at Keeneland and have had it for its whole [racing] life. I spend so much time with him and my staff has done such a great job with him.”

Saez was pretty sure Dornoch would get the lead but it didn’t work out that way.

“You are always going to have a Plan B,” Saez said. “The plan was to try to take the lead, but we couldn’t. We were in the perfect spot so I just let him be comfortable. He did what he was supposed to do. He finished pretty well.”

Randy Hill and Dean Reeves are the principal owners of Dornoch. Former Dodgers outfielder Jayson Werth owns a 10% stake but was celebrating in the winner’s circle like it was all his.

Dornoch co-owner Jayson Werth, center, holds up the August Belmont Memorial Cup.

The race was run at Saratoga because of major construction at Belmont. The New York Racing Assn. decided to shorten the race to the Kentucky Derby distance of 1 ¼ miles so that the horses wouldn’t have to break on a turn. The circumference of Saratoga is smaller than it is at Belmont, so that’s why the move was made.

The race will be at Saratoga next year, too.

While there were no California horses in the Belmont Stakes, Bob Baffert-trained horses made their mark on the undercard. National Treasure proved to be very dominant in winning the $1 million Metropolitan Mile by 6 1/4 lengths. The 4-year-old has clearly emerged as the best horse in Baffert’s barn with wins in last year’s Preakness Stakes and this year’s Pegasus World Cup. He was second in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile, losing by a nose to Cody’s Wish , who went on to win Horse of the Year.

“He’s a good horse and in his last couple of works, he tipped me off that ‘Hey, I’m back,’” Baffert said from Southern California. “I’m proud of the horse. When he shows up, he’s super. I’m proud of him and my team.”

Dornoch stands in the winner's circle after winning the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

The horse was handled by Jimmy Barnes, Baffert’s top assistant.

National Treasure had been off for 105 days since fourth in the Saudi Cup in February. The colt paid $4.70 to win. Post Time finished second. Breeders’ Cup Classic Winner White Abarrio finished fifth of six horses.

Baffert had two other horses on Saturday’s stakes-rich Belmont card. Prince of Monaco finished second in the $500,000 Woody Stephens Stakes, for horses going seven furlongs. Prince of Monaco was making his first start of the year after finishing fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 3.

He had rough start in Saturday’s race but may have been most impressive making up almost 14 lengths in the last three-eighths of a mile. He lost by half-a-length to Book ‘em Danno.

“The horse beside me stumbled out of [the gate] and hit my hind-end,” said jockey Flavien Prat, who also rode National Treasure. “I lost a couple of lengths there. After that we regrouped and he made a nice run.”

In a photo provided by Benoit Photo, Stronghold and jockey Antonio Fresu, outside.

New syndicate model of horse racing ownership is proving to be a winner

Imagination has nine different ownership groups. Now, he needs a win in a Triple Crown race to make a lot of people happy. Can he win Saturday’s Preakness Stakes?

May 16, 2024

Imagination, coming off a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Preakness, was equally disappointing on Saturday, finishing seventh in the 11-horse race.

Where the top 3-year-olds will end up next is unknown, but it’s pretty clear it will be on the East Coast. There is the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth on July 20 and the Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 24.

Will the different winner streak go to five or will a star start to emerge?

Report: $165 Million Luxury Apartment Building to Open for Los Angeles Homeless Population

A homeless man walks through Los Angeles skid row on Monday, December 12, 2022. LA Mayor K

A taxpayer-funded luxury apartment building is reportedly set to open in Los Angeles’s Skid Row neighborhood to provide hundreds of homeless people with housing and high-end amenities.

The 278-unit, 19-story tower is going to open in a matter of weeks, and is meant to be a “self-contained environment that will insulate its formerly homeless residents from the squalor and hopelessness around them,” the Los Angeles Times reported .

The building will offer a slew of benefits including a café, courtyard, gym, art room, soundproof music room, computer room, library, and a TV lounge, according to Fox News.

Skid Row, located in downtown LA, is notorious for its rampant homelessness, drug addiction, and public displays of mental health issues.

The tower is one of three set to be opened by homelessness nonprofit Weingart Center, and the project is expected to cost around $165 million, according to Fox News.

The luxurious shelter will receive financing from the LA Housing Department, state housing funds, and $56 million in state tax credits with each unit being projected to cost around $600,000.

“We’re trying to make our little corner of the world look and feel a little better,” Weingart Center Assn. Chief Executive and President Kevin Murray told the Times .

Murray devised the plan to create the sprawling project, which will become the largest permanent housing project in the city.

There has been a nine percent year-over-year increase in homelessness in Los Angeles County, and a 10 percent rise in the city, according to the 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count .

According to last year’s data, there are 75,518 homeless people in the county, with 46,260 of them residing in the city.
