Dua For Safar (Supplication For The Travelling)

Posted by Ahmed Abdulla | Duas

Dua For Safar (Supplication For The Travelling)

What does Safar mean?

Safar  (سفر) is an Arabic term which refers to travelling, going on a journey, or transportation. It is also the second Islamic month of the lunar calendar and the month where Muslims used to vacate their homes to gather food.

According to hadith and the sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) there are a number of duas one can recite for safar / travelling / going on a journey and we will cover them all in this one article.  Theses can be used for any method of transport whether by airplane, car, or boat.

Supplication For Travelling

Safar ki dua

In short, this hadith teaches to say the following:

  • (Bismillah) [three times]
  • Alhamdulillah
  • Subhan Alladhi Sakh-khara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin. Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunqalibun (Also referenced in  Surah Zukhruf ayat 13-14)
  • Alhamdulillah and Allahuakbar [three times]
  • Subhanaka Inni Qad Zalamtu Nafsi Faghfirli Fa-Innahu La Yaghfirudh-Dhunuba Illa Ant

The Full hadith is given below from Jami At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 6, Book of Supplications, Hadith 3446 Ali bin Rabi’ah said:

“I witnessed Ali having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup he said: ‘In the Name of Allah,’ (Bismillah) [three times]. So then, once he had ascended upon its back, he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah.’ (Al-Hamdulillah) then he said: Glory is to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not able to do it. And, surely, to our Lord are we returning (Subhan Alladhi Sakh-khara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin. Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunqalibun). Then he said: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-Hamdulillah)’ – three times – and ‘Allah is the Greatest (Allahu Akbar)’ – three times – ‘Glory is to You, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You (Subhanaka Inni Qad Zalamtu Nafsi Faghfirli Fa-Innahu La Yaghfirudh-Dhunuba Illa Ant).’ Then he laughed. So I said: ‘O Commander of the Believer! What caused you to laugh?’ He said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah do as I did, then he ﷺ laughed, so I said, ‘What cause you to laugh?’ He said: ‘Indeed, your Lord if very pleased with His worshipper when he says: “O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins.”

Invocation For Traveler

Transliteration: Bismiallahi wa alhamdu liallahi. Subhanaalladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

Translation: In the name of Allah, and Praise be to Allah. Glory be to the one who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord we will surely return.

Dua Upon Reaching Destination

Transliteration: Allhum rab alsamawat alsbʿ wama aẓlun wa-rab alarḍyn alsbʿ wama aqlun warab alshayaṭyn wama aḍlun warab alryaḥ wama duhryn finna nasalak khayr hudh alqarya wkhyr ahlha wanʿwdh baka mn shrha washr ahlha washr ma fyha.

Translation: “O Allah, You are the Lord of the seven skies and all the things that are under these skies and the seven planets and whatever is over these and of Satan who misled and all those misled by him and for the wind and all that it blows. Thus we seek the good of this town and the good of its members (people) and seek refuge from its evil and the evil of its members and from the evils of whatever is in it”. (Hisnul Hasin from Ibn Habban)

Another Dua:

أعوذ بكلمات الله التامات من شر ما خلق

A’udhu bikalimat-illahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaqa

Khaulah bint Hakim (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, “Whosoever alights somewhere and says: ‘A’udhu bikalimat-illahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaqa (I seek refuge with the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created),’ nothing will harm him until he leaves that place.” [Muslim] Riyad As Salihin. Arabic/English book reference : Book 8, Hadith 982

Other Hadiths About Safar and Safe Journey

The duas for safar covered this far are the most well known or common duas for journey. The rest of the article will focus on advice from Prophet Muhammad ( ﷺ ) regarding a safe travel and other Islamic traditions.

It’s Better To Travel With Others:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Were people to know of what I know about the dangers of travelling alone, no rider would travel alone at night.”. In another narration, The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “A single rider is (accompanied with) Satan and two riders are (accompanied with) two Satans. Three riders form a group.” 1

This was more applicable and good advice back during the Prophet’s time as travelling was far more treacherous at night especially if going alone. Today travelling at night is safer but you will not be as alert as you would when you first wake. Going on safar with group you’ll be less likely to make mistakes or be taken advantage of.

When Ascending To Heights (Going on Plane)

Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) and his army ascended a height, they would proclaim: “Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest),” and when they climbed down, they would proclaim: “Subhan Allah (Allah is free from imperfection).” 2

Shortened Prayer While Vacationing:

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) once stayed for nineteen days and prayed shortened prayers. So when we travel led (and stayed) for nineteen days, we used to shorten the prayer but if we traveled (and stayed) for a longer period we used to offer the full prayer. 3

How to Recite Traveling Dua?

Performing a Dua, or prayer, in Islam doesn’t need any special preparations like wudu (ablution), usually done before prayers. However, as a Muslim, it is better to always remain neat and clean, including when you’re travelling.

Starting your journey? It’s an ideal time to offer your Dua for travelling .  There is a set pattern for offering a Dua in Islam. It includes:

  • Start with the name of Allah (S.W.T.)
  • Recite the specific dua for that particular need
  • End with durud (sending peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad  ﷺ)

Remember, you can always recite the travelling dua straightaway if you prefer. This isn’t a strict rule, just a way to make your journey more blessed.

Duas For Travelling

Table of Contents

Travelling always comes with an unpredictable aspect. Regardless of how much you plan, you will never know how the journey will progress or end. Every year hundreds of thousands of people lose their lives because of vehicular accidents and plane crashes. This is where Islam comes in to protect you. Islam is an amazing religion that teaches us to have faith in Allah (SWT) and live our lives according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

One of the best things about Islam is that we have a dua for almost everything, whether it’s sitting, eating, sleeping, or traveling. While reciting the duas for travelling , a Muslim seeks help from Allah (SWT) to stay safe and protected as He is the only one who can protect us from accidents and dangerous hazards. Keep reading to learn more about the duas for traveling .

What Does Allah Say About Travelling?

travelling dua video

The Holy Quran is the religious book of Islam and is considered the ultimate guide for Muslims. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes our life as a journey, with ignorance and knowledge being analogous to the dark and light on the way, respectively.  The Quran has numerous references for Muslims to follow in order to go through a better worldly yet spiritual journey. However, in several places, Allah (SWT) has placed special emphasis on the significance of physical travel.

In the Quran, the word “saiyr” is used to refer to a traveller. The literal meaning of saiyr is to travel or move; for example; the planets are called sayyarah. The term saiyr appears in the Holy Quran 27 times. In most places, it’s used in the formulation of “Tell them to travel,” “Do they not travel,” or “Do travel.”

On the significance of travelling in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the One who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. (al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih)

Duas for Travelling in a Car

To protect yourself and your travel companions it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following Surah, with a wish to have a safe and blessed journey:

“With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. Praise is to Allah . Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You.” (Abu Dawud 3/34, At-Tirmidhi 5/501)

In general, having been often mentioned in the Quran, travelling  is a way to achieve insight and wisdom by broadening an individual’s horizons and potential

Duas for Travelling on Plane

Travelling is viewed as a good deed in Islam. this is mainly because in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ummah succeeded in spreading Islam through exploration and travelling. The act of travelling also strengthens our belief, aboutwhich Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “Say (O Muhammad): ‘ Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation.'” (Surah Al-Ankabut, Verse 20)

Therefore, following the Sunnah – acts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – it is advised that every Muslim should follow the exemplary Adab (etiquette) mentioned below, while travelling out of the city or country:

  • Dua When You Leave the House | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on the adab of leaving your house for travelling , stated: “When you leave your house, perform two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils.” (Hadith reported by Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi)

Furthermore, in “Al-Majmu,” Imam An-Nawawi mentions that while performing the two raka’at , in the first raka’at, one should recite Surah Al-Kafirun after Surah Al-Fatiahah. However, in the second raka’at, one should recite Surah Ikhlas after Surah Al-Fatihah.

  • When You Commence Your Journey

For the following verse, Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that: “Whoever says upon leaving his house (recites the below-mentioned verses) it will be said to him: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devil will go far away from him.”

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

According to the narration of Suhaib (RA), Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite the following verse when he looked at the town that he wished to enter:

“Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.”

“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelop, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.”

“I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every evil (that has been created).”

There will be several times when travelling when one might feel lost. In such a case, it is advised to perform zikr (remembrance) of Allah (SWT) and istighfar (for forgiveness) for our sins.

In a narration by Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), it is stated that, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if a person constantly makes Istighfar (i.e., “Astaghfirullah”), then Allah removes every difficulty, frees him from every sorrow and makes a means for him to receive sustenance from places that he never thought of.” (Hadith reported by Ahmad)

There is no love more pure and selfless except for the love of your parents. Everyone’s parents love them unconditionally, and regardless of all and worldly reasons. And realistically stating it is nearly impossible for a child to reciprocate that love. Therefore, being Muslims, the best thing that you can do is recite the following duas wishing a happy and blessed life for your parents:

  • Dua for the Happiness of Your Parents:

“RabbiawziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAalawalidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahuwaaslih lee fee thurriyyatee innee tubtuilayka wa-innee mina almuslimeen”

“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work the righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.” ( Quran 46:15)

  • Dua for the Long Life of Your Parents:

“Adhhib al-ba’s Rabb an-naas, wa’shfi anta al-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman”

Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5351, Muslim, 2191)

Understanding the Essence of Dua When Traveling

In Islam, dua is an integral part of our relationship with Allah. It is a way to communicate our hopes, fears, and desires, seeking His guidance and blessings in all aspects of life. Dua is a reflection of our faith, humility, and trust in the Divine. When we make dua, we acknowledge our dependence on Allah and His control over every aspect of our lives. Through dua, we establish a profound connection with our Creator, finding solace and strength in His infinite mercy.

Dua Before the Journey

Embarking on a journey is an exciting yet uncertain time. Before setting foot outside our homes, it is crucial to seek Allah’s protection and blessings. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever leaves his home, and says: ‘In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah,’ it will be said to him: ‘You have been guided, defended, and protected,’ and the devil will go far away from him” (Sunan Abu Dawood).

In preparation for your journey, take a moment to make dua. Seek Allah’s protection from all potential hardships and calamities that may come your way. Offer supplications for a smooth and safe journey, accompanied by His divine mercy. By starting your travels with the remembrance of Allah, you invoke His blessings and pave the way for a secure expedition.

Dua During the Journey

As you embark on your journey, the significance of dua remains steadfast. Each step, whether on land, air, or sea, presents unique challenges and unforeseen circumstances. In these moments, turning to Allah through dua provides us with tranquility and assurance. We implore His protection, guidance, and assistance, understanding that our safety lies solely in His hands.

During the journey, offer prayers specific to each stage, seeking Allah’s safeguarding grace. Whether you’re boarding a plane, driving on a busy highway, or navigating through unfamiliar terrain, take a moment to recite supplications tailored to your circumstances. These prayers become a shield against accidents, discomfort, and any potential harm. By placing your trust in Allah and making dua, you invite His divine intervention, transforming your journey into a blessed and secure experience.

Dua Upon Arrival

Upon reaching your destination, express your gratitude to Allah for His protection and guidance. Offer prayers of thanksgiving, recognizing that your safe arrival is a testament to His mercy and benevolence. At this juncture, take a moment to make dua for a blessed stay and positive experiences throughout your journey. Seek His blessings in exploring new places, meeting new people, and gaining valuable insights from your travels.

Remember, dua is not limited to seeking protection from harm; it is also about seeking blessings, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Embrace the opportunity to connect with Allah, for He is ever-ready to respond to your heartfelt supplications.

Can dua change the course of my journey?

While we ultimately rely on Allah’s divine decree, dua has the power to invoke His intervention and influence the outcome of our journey. It instills within us a sense of tranquility, strengthens our faith, and aligns our actions with His guidance.

Are there specific duas for different modes of travel?

Yes, there are supplications and prayers tailored to various forms of travel. These include prayers for boarding a plane, driving, sailing, or any other mode of transportation. These specific duas ensure that we seek Allah’s protection and blessings throughout the journey.

In the realm of travel, dua serves as a faithful companion, offering solace, protection, and blessings. By understanding the essence of dua, making supplications before, during, and after the journey, and expressing gratitude upon arrival, we infuse our travels with spirituality and divine guidance. Embrace the power of dua, for it is an integral part of our faith and an ever-present source of strength. Let your journey be safe, blessed, and filled with the mercy of Allah, knowing that you are under His watchful care.

As we embark on our travels, may we always remember the profound impact dua can have on our journeys, both in this world and the next.

Duas for Travelling

Table of Contents

Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all spheres of life. In addition to the five obligatory prayers, Allah has commanded us to seek His blessings and guidance before undertaking any action. For instance, we must seek Allah’s protection from any harm during travelling by reciting Dua for Travelling .

Whether we travel by car, train, or airplane, we must recite certain Duas before starting our journey . Of course, we plan ahead of time, but no one is certain how our plan progresses or ends. Therefore, Muslims must seek Allah’s direction and assistance to reach their destinations safely and return home to their family. While you do so, opt for Dua Travels to maximize your experience.

Islam allows all Muslims to travel when the intentions are for the right purpose. While reciting  Dua for travelling , Muslims must firmly believe in Allah (SWT) and His blessings. He is the only one who has the power to protect us from unfortunate events like accidents and the harm of travelling. Let us explore some of the most beneficial as we must recite before and during the journey.

What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

Holy Quran, the sacred scripture, is the book of wisdom that teaches man the purpose of life and guides Muslims on the right way to lead their lives. The Islamic Holy Book covers all aspects of life and directs Muslims to success in this world and hereafter. According to the Quran, this world is temporary, and human beings are in a constant state of Travel. However, Allah (SWT) also mentions physical travelling several times.

In the Quran, ‘sayyir’ refers to the one who travels. The word sayir literally means to move or travel. Allah (SWT) used this word 27 times in the Quran in several expressions, including “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? 22:46

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also emphasized travelling. He told the believers that travelling is a great way to expand their horizons and seek knowledge. In one instance, he said

“Keep  to  travelling by night  because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the  night .” [Abu Dawud].

Dua Before Travelling

Shariah recommends to off 2 rakaat nawafil before starting travel. It is because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed this task before going on any journey. You can get the confirmation of this practice from the following hadith.

Dua Before Travelling

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil.”

(Musnad Al-Bazzar)

Dua for Travel

O Allah, You are our Companion in travel and the guardian of our family (in our absence). O Allah I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a sight of grief, and from an unfortunate occurrence in wealth and family.

Dua for Travelling in Quran

The Quran clearly stated the Dua for safe Travel regardless of the mode of transport. The following Dua for Travelling is recited to seek Allah’s protection and safety throughout the journey.

Also, this is a means to ask for Allah’s  (SWT) forgiveness before setting off, so our sins are forgiven by the Almighty if we encounter any unfortunate events.

Dua for travel

The Blessings of Dua for Journeys

Dua, or supplication, is an integral aspect of the Islamic faith. It is a means of communicating with Allah, seeking His guidance, and asking for His blessings. When it comes to traveling, making dua is highly recommended as it is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance during the journey. In this article, we will explore the importance of dua for travel from a Sunnah perspective, and provide a dua for travel along with its Arabic text, transliteration, and translation.

In Islam, dua is considered to be the essence of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the significance of making dua in various aspects of life, including travel. He is reported to have said, “There are three whose supplication is not rejected: the fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just ruler, and the one who is oppressed” (Tirmidhi). This indicates the special status of dua, and its potency in seeking Allah’s favor.

Traveling, whether for leisure or for a specific purpose, can be fraught with uncertainties and challenges. Making dua before embarking on a journey is a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance, and to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience. It is a way of acknowledging our reliance on Allah and humbly seeking His assistance. Moreover, the act of making dua fosters a sense of mindfulness and connection with Allah, thereby enhancing our spiritual journey.

A powerful dua for travel is as follows:

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun. Translation: “Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.”

This dua is to be recited during the journey, whether it be by air, land, sea, or any other means of transport. It is a way of acknowledging Allah’s control over the means of transportation and seeking His protection and guidance throughout the travel.

The act of reciting this dua not only serves as a way to seek Allah’s protection and guidance but also as a means of expressing gratitude for the means of travel and acknowledging Allah’s control over all aspects of our lives.

Giving Charity with Sincere Intentions

In Islam, charity holds immense significance, and it is regarded as a means of seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. The act of giving charity with sincere intentions can serve as a way to seek Allah’s favors, and it can potentially help in the fulfillment of one’s dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity” (Tirmidhi). By giving in charity with a sincere heart, one not only fulfills their obligation towards those in need but also seeks Allah’s mercy and blessings. This act of kindness and generosity can contribute to the fulfillment of one’s supplications, including those made for safe traveling and a smooth journey.

The dua for travel provided above serves as a means to acknowledge Allah’s control over our journeys and seek His blessings for a safe and smooth travel experience. Additionally, giving in charity with a sincere heart can further aid in the fulfillment of one’s supplications.

As Muslims, it is important to incorporate these practices into our lives and recognize the power of dua and charity in seeking Allah’s favor and blessings. May Allah grant us safe travels and accept our supplications. Ameen.

travelling dua video

Regular travel is highly encouraged in Islam. The Qur’an states:

It is He who has made the earth manageable for you––travel its regions; eat His provision- and to Him you will be resurrected.” Advertise on TMV [67:15]

Islam doesn’t encourage a sedentary lifestyle. Travelling is a way for us to appreciate God’s earth. Some regions are hot, others cold. Some places are mountainous, whilst others are by the sea. The earth has a lot to offer. Travelling – from planning, travelling itself and adjusting to new surroundings is good for personal development and affords time away from our routine to reflect on creation and unwind.

The majority of verses in the Holy Quran concerning travelling mention travelling to see how previous disbelieving nations and communities:

Say, ‘Travel throughout the earth and see what fate befell those who rejected the truth.’” [6:11]

Even today, we can visit areas of the earth and see the remaining ruins of past generations.

Whatever your reason for travelling, it’s important to be safe. And that’s where Islam has plentiful duas to recite for travelling. We have duas for different scenarios and stages of travelling. Here are 11.

Duas Before Starting the Journey

When we plan to travel, we want the entire experience to be as pleasant as possible. Before we leave our place of residence to travel, there are two duas we can recite, seeking Allah’s blessings for the journey.

Allahumma inna nas-aluka fi safarina haza-l-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tardho. Allahumma hawwin ‘alaina safarana haza, watwi ‘anna bu’dahu, Allahumma antas-sohibu fis-safar wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a-‘uzu bika min wa’atha-is-safar, wa kabbati-manzar, wa su-i-lmunqalabi fil-mal wal-ahli.

O Allah, we ask You in our travel for righteousness, taqwa, and good deeds that You are pleased with. O Allah make our travel an ease, and shorten the distance for us. O Allah, You are our Companion in travel and the guardian of our family (in our absence). O Allah I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a sight of grief, and from an unfortunate occurance in wealth and family.”

In the name of Allah! I have placed faith in Allah and I have put full trust in Allah. (It is) as Allah wills! There is no strength and no power save with Allah. O Allah! Protect me and protect what is with me (my possessions), and deliver me (to my destination and delivery what is with me the best of your delivery. By Allah I commence (my journey) and by Allah I seek to accomplish (the purpose of my journey) and by Muhammad (s.a.w.) I have set out (towards my destination). Oh Allah make me overcome all (my grief); and make easy for me all difficulties; and give me more of goodness than I hope for; and keep away all evil of which I am apprehensive for my health. O the most Merciful.”

Duas When Boarding A Vehicle

When boarding your vehicle for travel – be it a car, plane or ship – it’s important to thank Allah (SWT) for giving us the means to travel and confessing our total reliance on Him in completing the journey safely. The following three duas reflect these sentiments.

Subhanal-ladzi sakh-khara lana hadza wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamun-qalibun.

In the name of Allah and all praise is for Allah. How perfect He is, the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.”

Bismillahi walaa quwwata illa billahi. Alhamdu lillahil-ladhee sakh-khara lana haadha wama kaunna lahu muqrineen.

In the name of Allah, and there is no power save with Allah. Praise be to Allah who made this (the means of transport) subservient to us, and we (by ourselves) could never have accomplished it.”

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhee hadaana lil-islam wa allamanal quran wa manna alayna bi muhammadin sallallhu alayhi wa aalihi. Subhanal-ladhee sakh-khara lana haadha wama kunna lahu muqrineen, wa inna illa rabbina lamuqaliboon. Walhamdu lillahi rabbil aalameen. Allahumma antal haamilu aladhdhahr walmusta`anu alal-amr. Wa antas-sahibu fis-sfar wal khaleefatu fil-ahli wal-maali wal-walad. Allahumma anta adhdee wa naasiree.

All praise is for Allah Who guided us in Islam and taught us the Quran and graced us with Muhammad (s.a.w.). Glory be to Allah Who made this (the means of transport) subservient to us, and we (by ourselves) could never have accomplished it. And surely to our Lord we shall return. All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. `O` Allah! You are the Facilitator of the journey and the helper in the affair and you are the Companion in the journey, and the Successor (incharge of my) family, property and son. `O` Allah! You are my supporter and my Helper to Victory.” Advertise on TMV

Duas For When We Reach our Destination

The following can be recited as we enter the borders of a new country, town or city:

Allahumma innee as-aluka khairaha wa a`oodhu bika min sharriha. Allahumma habbibna ilaa ahliha wa habbib saalihi ahliha ilayna.

Oh, Allah! I beseech from you its (town, city or village) goodness and seek refuge in you from its wickedness. Oh Allah! let its inhabitants love us, and let us love its virtuous inhabitants.”

And here is another:

Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelope, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants and for all the goodness found within it and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants and from all the evil found within it.”

When we actually get to our hotel or place of residence and leave our car or when we disembark the ship or plane, we can say the following:

Rabbee anzilnee manzilan mubarakan wa anta khairul-munzileen.

O, My Lord! Cause me to disembark a blessed alighting, and you are the Best of all who cause to alight.”

Another dua to recite specifically for when we enter our place of residence:

A’uzu bikalimatillahit-tammati min syarri ma khalaq.

I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what is created.”

Dua for Travelling by Ship

If you’re going on a cruise holiday or a ferry, there’s a specific dua you can recite for it:

Bismillahil malikil haq. Wama qadarullahahaqqa qadarihi wal ardhu jamee`an qabdhatuhu yaumall qiyamati was-sawamatu matwiyyatun biyameenihi subhaanahu wata`ala amma yshrikoon. Bismillahi majraha wa mursaha inna rabbee laghafoorun raheemen.

In the name of Allah! The Master! The Truth! They esteemed not Allah with an esteem due to Him. The whole earth is under His hold on the day of resurrection and the heavens folded at His command. Glory be to him and the High above! He is beyond the attribution of any partner. In the name of Allah be its course (sailing) and its arrival (anchorage). Verily my Lord is All Forgiving, All Merciful.”

Duas for Returning Home

When we are returning home, we can recite the same duas mentioned above. For example, you can recite the same dua when entering your car to go to the airport or as you leave your hotel. In addition, you can recite the following, which is specifically for returning home.

Aa-iboona taa-iboona insha allah aabi doona raki`oona saajidoona lirabbina haamidoon. Allahumma lakal hamdu ala hifdhika iyyaya fee safaree wa hadharee. Allahummaj`al aubatee haadhihi mubarakatan maimoonatan maqroonatan be taubatin nasoohin toojablee bihas-sa`adah ya arhamar-rahimeen.

If Allah wills, we repent and seek pardon from Him; we worship Him and Him we bow and prostrate. Our Lord we praise. O Allah! Make this return (journey) of mine a blessed one, a fruitful one, associated with a sincere repentance; one that will make prosperity incumbent for me. Oh Most Merciful.”

Nafl Prayer (salah) after reaching destination.

Abu Huraira reported: The Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad ( Sallallaho alahay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam) said:

It should be noted that  Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam)  used to pray 2 Rakah non obligatory (Nafal) prayer in a mosque whenever he (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam)   used to come back from a journey. If we cannot find a mosque, then we can pray it at home also.

Important information for travelling in Islam

The best day to start travelling.

It was narrated from Hazrat Ka’b that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) rarely traveled except on Thursdays. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34303]

Early morning is the best time to start travel

Early morning is the best time to start travelling in Islam. Hazrat Sakhr al-Ghamdi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed: O Allah! grant  “Barakah” (increased blessing) to my Ummah in their morning hours. When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to send an army or army ,he  (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to send them early morning. There was a merchant named Sakhar, his nephew, who used to send a convoy (of goods) in the morning for trade. It had increased a lot. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34305]

First thing to do after coming back

Pray 2 rakah salah whenever you come back from travelling . It is better to pray these 2 rakah in a mosque . But if not possible, then you can pray it at home also. Both Ahadith are mentioned below.

Hazrat Ka’b bin Malik says that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to come back from travelling at the time of Chasht on the day and when he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) came back, he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to go to the mosque first and offer rak’at prayers.

Hazrat Jabir says that when we returned from a journey with the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) , he asked me, O Jabir! Have you prayed Salah? I said no. He (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) said then pray two rakats Salah. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 4918]

Forbidden time to come back home

It was narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that the Holy Prophet (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) said that : that when one of you returns from travelling, he should not come to his family at night. Hazrat Jabir ra says that by God we used to come home after the night had passed. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34334]

Men should try to travel in a group of three

Always travel with someone. Do not travel alone unless you do not have any other option

Lady should not travel alone

Whoever says, i.e., when he leaves his house: In the name of God, I put my trust in God, there is no might and no power but with God, it will be said to him: You have been sufficed and protected, and Satan has moved away from him. [ Saheeh Bokhari ]

[Masnad Ahmad]

Ali bin Rabi’ah says: I was with Ali, he was given an animal to ride, and when he put his foot in the stirrup, he said  3 times:  “Bismillah” (“In the name of Allah”) I am riding in the name of Allah, and then When he sat down on his back, he said: “Alhamdulillah” Praise be to Allah.” Then he read the following verse of Quran.Glory be to the One Who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own . Glory be to the One Who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own [ Surah Zukhruf verse 13-14 ] then said “Alhamdulillah” three times, and said “Allahu Akbar” three times, then Recite this dua: “There is no God except you, Subhananak, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for He does not forgive sins except you.” You are pure, O Allah! Indeed, I have wronged my life, so forgive me, because there is no one who forgives wrongdoing except You , then Ali laughed, I said: Ameerul Momineen, what did you laugh at? He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ he did the same as I have done, then he laughed, I asked: Messenger of Allah! What did you laugh at? He said: Your Lord is pleased with the speech of His servant when he says: O Allah, forgive my sins, for there is none who can forgive sins except You.

Travel Dua & Best Practices

travel dua and best practices

Islam is a beautiful religion that gives a perfect guide to a way of life for all humans. As Muslims, every aspect of our lives has been arranged to our benefit, and we have been given everything that we need to live the best lives on Earth.

One of the beauties of Islam that many of us may take for granted is the fact that we have a dua for everything. From putting on your clothes to eating to traveling, every one of our actions can be a means of worshipping Allah (ta’ala) and earning rewards.

Whenever a Muslim sets out on a journey, we are encouraged to say some duas for our protection and safe return. This is the dua that the Messenger of Allah( ﷺ ) used to make whenever he traveled.

Dua of Travelling

“Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min wa’tha’is-safari, wa kabatil-munqalabi, wal-hawri ba’dal-kawri, wa da’watil-mazlumi, wa suw’il-munzari fil-ahli wal-mal”

“(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the hardships of travel and the sorrows of return, from loss after plenty, from the supplication of the one who has been wronged, and seeing some calamity befall my family or wealth.)” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

We are encouraged to memorize the dua and recite it for every travel.

Best Practices for Travelling

Beyond the dua, it is important for a Muslim who seeks the protection of Allah (ta’ala) in their journey, to also keep within the limits laid down by Islam. These may be in terms of our mode of transport, Salah, or even meeting new people.

Stay Away from Fasting

The traveling person is exempted from fasting, according to a hadith narration which says

“I was traveling and I came to the Prophet when he was eating and I was fasting. He said: ‘Come and eat.’ I said: ‘I am fasting.’ He said: ‘Do you know what Allah has waived for the traveler?’ he said: ‘Do you know what Allah has waived for the traveler?’ I said: ‘What has Allah waived for the traveler?’ He said: ‘Fasting and half of the prayer.’” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

He (ﷺ) also said: “It is not righteousness to fast when traveling. Take to the concession which Allah, the mighty and sublime, has granted you, accept it.” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

This doesn’t mean that one is forbidden from fasting, however. Because in another narration, the Messenger of Allah was quoted to have said: “If you wish to fast then fast, and if you wish not to fast then do not fast.” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

Supplicate While Travelling

Apart from the dua of traveling, it is also encouraged to make dua while on the journey because the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “ Three supplications are answered, there being no doubt about them; that of a father, that of a traveler and that of one who has been wronged.” ( Sunan Abi Dawud )

Shorten Salah

As a traveler, a Muslim is permitted to shorten his Salah while on a journey. So, salahs like Zuhr and Asr with four rakats each becomes two rakats each. It is also permissible to combine two salahs, i.e praying Zuhr and Asr at the time of Zuhr, etc.

Aisha (RA) narrated that “The prayer was prescribed as consisting of two rak’ahs both when one was resident and when traveling. The prayer while traveling was left according to the original prescription and the prayer of one who was resident was enhanced.” ( Sunan Abi Dawud )

Travel with a Mahram

This is a traveling etiquette, particularly for Muslim women. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “A woman should not travel for more than three days except with a Dhi-Mahram.” ( Bukhari )

Even though many people do not take to this rule these days, we should always remember that it is proper traveling etiquette for a Muslim woman to travel accompanied by a male relative that is deemed unmarriageable for her in Islam. (Remember this is not compulsory or obligatory at all for a Muslim woman to travel with a mahram).

The dua for traveling is just one of many duas that we have as Muslims, and like all other duas, it is beneficial and rewarding for us when we make us of it.

Travel Duas – 6 Islamic Duas To Recite When Traveling

Traveling for many of us only has a leisurely purpose. However, if you are a believer of Islam, you should know that Islam attaches great significance with traveling. One of the pillars of Islam is Hajj- Pilgrimage, requiring lots of traveling.

If we look into the lives of Prophet, Moosa (a.s), Isa (a.s), Nooh (a.s), Ibrahim (a.s), and Prophet Muhammad (saww); they all traveled in their lives for religious purpose. Hence, traveling consumes importance in Islamic tradition.

What Dua To Say When Traveling?

It is interesting that our mortal life is itself a part of a journey to the immortal world. Any action that has been imposed by the religion itself. How can the Almighty leave us without any guidance on that? There are duas and instructions one should remember while traveling. This dua is one of the beautiful duas that Allah himself has taught to His believer in the Holy Quran in the seventeenth chapter, Surah Bani Israe’l. The ayat, although revealed before the migration to Madinah of Holy Prophet (pbuh), clearly identifying the importance of traveling for the sake of religion. Nevertheless, this dua transcends time and space. One should recite this prayer when one intends to get settled in a new area, city, or country. In his Tafseer, Abul Ala Modudi states,

“This prayer clearly shows that the time of Hijrah (Migration) had come near. That is why Allah has instructed the Holy Prophet to this effect: You should follow the truth wherever and in whatever condition you be. If you migrate from a place, you should migrate for the sake of the truth, and wherever you go, you should go for the sake of the truth. “

Here are the Most Powerful Islamic Duas That Every Muslim Should Know .

3 – Dua When Visiting A Place For First Time:

Many times, it happens that we travel to a place for the first time, and in our hearts lie many apprehensions associated with the journey. Students travel to different lands for their higher studies, people travel for their jobs knowing as less as nothing about their job environment. Fear of new place and anxiety of meeting new people is very natural in these circumstances. Well, putting trust in Allah and showing to Him that we are nothing without His aid and help is what this dua reflects.  For secure and safe traveling this dua certainly is very useful and one of the easier ones. One may also recite this dua when We want to be Successful in our plans. For more days on success, you may follow this link.

Prophet (saww) said:

The Prophet (saww) said: When a man goes out of his house and recites the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended, and protected?

Reported by Abu Dawood (5095) and Al-Tirmidhi (3462); classified as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Abi Dawood.

2 – Dua For Alla’s Protection During Your Trip

Traveling symbolizes that we, humans, are a temporary creature, it encloses the men of the world as one community, it enlightens the virtue of humility in a person. It gives you an insight into Allah’s blessings in the form of different creatures. Imam Shafi stated:

For in travel, there are five benefits: Relief of adversity, earning of livelihood, knowledge, etiquette, and noble companionship. ”  (Imam as-Shafi)

Transliteration :

Allahumma sahl-li kulli hizwani wa zillal li kulli swa’oobati wa aa’twaini min-al-khair  kullahi aksari mimma arjoo wazrif aa’nni min-asshari aksari mimma ahzar fi aa’fiya ya arhamar rahimeen.

1 – The Prophet’s Traveling Dua:

Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for a journey and mounted on his camel, he would recite the following dua:

Travel Duas - 6 Islamic Duas To Recite When Traveling

Translation :

Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our, Lord is our final destiny. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (the One Who guards them in a person’s absence) over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of heart and from being in a bad predicament, and I seek refuge with You from an ill-fated outcome with regard to wealth and family. – (Narrated by Muslim, 1342)

Can you see, how beautifully Allah has guided His men in every aspect of life? Can you see why Islam is seen as a code of life? It is because of these minute precisions Allah has given to us! The one who has created us has formulated basic codes so that we are not left alone anywhere, and we remind ourselves that Allah is present nearest to us and takes care of our journey. We just need to work on the ethics of travel. We need to recite the days telling Allah that we only put our trust in Him.

Q. Should You Pray Before Traveling?

A. Yes, it is highly recommended to say 2 raka’at nafal prayers before you start your journey. As the Prophet PBUH said:

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils.”

Similarly, when you come back home after the journey, you should again say 2 raka’at prayer to thank Allah.

Q. Are Duas Accepted When Traveling?

A. The Prophet PBUH has told us about certain times of the day or certain instances in life when the chances of acceptance of prayer are very high. One of these times is when a Muslim is traveling. So if your trip and your dua are both for a good reason, remember Allah during the journey and He will surely remember you.

As the Prophet PBUH said:

Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

Table of Contents

Before embarking on any journey, it is essential to recite the dua for traveling. This dua is known as the Dua of Safar (دعاء السفر), and it is a beautiful way to seek Allah’s protection, guidance, and blessings on your journey

Let’s delve into the words from the dua:

لله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر،

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ.

Transliteration: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin wa inna ila rabbina lamunqaliboon.

Translation: Glory to Him who has subjected these to our (use), for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves), and to our Lord, surely, we are to return.

Transliteration: “Allahumma innā nas’aluka fee safarinā hādha al-birra wa-t-taqwā, wa minal-‘amali ma tardi, Allahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana hādha watwi ‘annā bu’dah, Allahumma anata as-sahibu fis-safari, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl, Allahumma innā na’ūdhu bika min wa’tha’is-safari, wa kabatil-mandhari, wasu’il-munqalabi fil-māli wal-ahl”

Translation: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah, I take refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of hearts and being in a bad predicament, and from an ill-fated outcome with wealth and family.”

This dua is both a humble plea and a powerful assertion of Allah’s supremacy. We seek tranquillity and ease in our journey, request His guidance in undertaking actions that earn His pleasure, and implore His protection from hardships, changes of heart, and unfortunate incidents involving our wealth and family.

From Surah Hud Ayah 41:

وقال اركبوا فيها بسم الله مجراها ومرساها إن ربي لغفور رحيم

Transliteration: Waqala irkaboo feeha bismillahi majraha wamursaha inna rabbee laghafoorun raheem[1%5E]

Translation: And he said, “Embark therein, in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful[1].

This Ayah is from the moment when the Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) was about to embark on the journey in the ark with those who believed in Allah s.w.t. The statement declared by Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) captures the spirit of complete trust and reliance in Allah s.w.t. He attributes the voyage’s movement and rest to Allah’s name, an expression of strong faith and surrender to divine decree.

Important Duas for Travelling

Are you preparing for a trip and want to ensure it goes smoothly? Travel is an integral part of our lives, and Islam provides special prayers, called Duas, for protection during journeys.

This article will guide you through important Duas in Islam that are specific for travel, ensuring safety and blessings throughout your journey. Let’s delve into these sacred recitations; they could be the invisible shield you need on your next adventure!

The Importance of Duas When Travelling

Important Duas for Travelling

Duas play an essential role in every journey of a Muslim. Through these prayers, you are committing your trip to Allah SWT for more than just a safe journey. It is about accepting that every step taken, every moment of the journey, and any potential hazards along the way are guided by divine providence.

Duas strengthen your faith by erecting an invisible safety net around you and all accompanying passengers. Before traveling, the Islamic tradition recommends a specific Dua, which encapsulates trust in Allah’s wisdom and surrender to His will.

Specific Duas focus on blessing your transportation means, such as saying ‘Subhan Alladhi Sakh-khara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin…’, thanking Him for providing serviceable vehicles despite our inability to control them ourselves.

This emphasizes gratitude as an essential component of embarking on journeys, remembering that each successful journey is a mercy from Allah SWT.

What Does Allah SWT Say About Travelling?

What Does Allah SWT Say About Travelling

In Islam, travel holds a significant place as Allah SWT encourages exploration of the earth in various verses in the Quran. It is seen as an opportunity for worldly gains and experiences and a means to spiritual growth.

According to Surah Al-Ankabut, verse 20 , Allah SWT states:

قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ بَدَأَ ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ يُنشِئُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ

“Say (O Muhammad), “Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will bring it into being one more time. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything.” This statement illustrates that traveling can deepen our understanding of life’s origin and complexity.

In another verse, Surah Zukhruf ayat 13-14 , Allah SWT provides specific supplications for safe travels. Muslims are encouraged to recite this Dua before undertaking any journey.

“Glory be to the One Who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own˺. And surely to our Lord, we will ˹all˺ return.”

Many Hadiths describe Prophet Muhammad’s practice of making Dua during his travels to seek protection from unforeseen difficulties, emphasizing the importance of the travel Duas He taught.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH also emphasized travel etiquette, advising against traveling on specific days or dates within each month. This guidance given by Allah SWT and His prophet PBUH for safe and successful travel emphasizes the sacredness attributed to journeying in Islam.

Essential Duas for Travelling

Essential Duas for Travelling

In this section, we will discuss powerful Duas before departure, when entering a vehicle, for protection during travel, and upon reaching your destination. These essential Duas will bring blessings and safety to your journey InshAllah.

Dua Before Departure

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

“Whoever says (upon leaving his house): ‘ Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alAllah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah [I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah],’ it will be said to him: ‘ You are guided, defended and protected. ‘ The devil will go far away from him “. Riyad as-Salihin 83 .

The Dua for Departure is the first step in embarking on a journey. This Dua provides protection and blessings for our trip.

Thus, reciting the Dua Before Departure embodies physical and spiritual protection while venturing into the world.

Dua When Entering a Vehicle

Dua When Entering a Vehicle

In a lengthy Hadith, Ibn Umar narrated what the Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to recite when he mounted his camel.

Whenever the Messenger of Allah  (ﷺ) mounted his camel for setting out on a journey, he would recite: “ Allah u Akbar (Allah  is Greatest),” thrice . Then he (ﷺ) would supplicate:

“Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadh al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin ‘alaina safarana hadha, watwi ‘anna bu’dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fissafari, wal-Khalifatu fil- ahli. Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min wa’ta’is-safari, wa kaabatil- manzari, wa su’il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahli wal-waladi”

Translation:

“Far removed from imperfection is the One Who has made this subservient to us, for we have no power to subjugate it, and certainly to our Rubb shall we return. O Allah, we ask You during this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and such deeds as are pleasing to You. O Allah, make easy for us this journey of ours and make the distance short for us. O Allah, You are our Companion during the journey and the Guardian of the family and the property in our absence. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of traveling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes, and evil turns in property and family.”

Reference: Riyad as-Salihin 972

This supplication seeks the protection of Allah SWT during your travel time.

However, if you find it difficult to recite this entire Dua, then you can only recite the first part of the Dua, “ Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. ”

Your car becomes more than just a mode of transportation; it becomes a personal space where you can maintain your connection with God and express gratitude for His blessings.

Dua for Protection During Travel

Reciting a Dua for protection during travel is highly recommended in Islam. Abu Musa Al Ashari, a companion of the Prophet narrated that:

أن رسول الله كان إذا خاف قوماً قال‏:‏ “‏ اللهم إنا نجعلك في نحورهم ، ونعوذ بك من شرورهم‏”

When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), feared mischief from a people, he would supplicate: “Allahumma inna naj’aluka fi nuhurihim, wa na’udhu bika min shururihim (O Allah! We ask You to face them, and seek Your Protection against their evil.” Riyad as-Salihin 981

It is also recommended to seek Allah SWT’s protection by saying “ Allah-o-Akbar ” (Allah SWT is greatest) and “ Astaghfirullah ” (I seek Allah SWT’s forgiveness). Furthermore, giving donations before and after the journey can bring blessings and protect against harm.

These acts of supplication and seeking Allah SWT’s protection provide comfort and remind us of our reliance on Him throughout our journey.

Dua for Parents Left Behind

When we embark on a journey, it is essential to remember our parents who are left behind. We can pray for their well-being and protection by reciting a special Dua. This Dua is mentioned in the Quran in Surah Isra Verse 24:

رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًۭا

“My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.” 17:24

It expresses our love and concern for our parents and requests Allah SWT’s blessings on them even when we are absent. By making this Dua, we acknowledge the importance of family and their role in our lives.

However, you should not only recite this Dua for your parents when traveling; you should recite it all the time!

Dua Upon Reaching the Destination

“‏ مَنْ نَزَلَ مَنْزِلاً ثُمَّ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ‏.‏ لَمْ يَضُرُّهُ شَىْءٌ حَتَّى يَرْتَحِلَ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ ذَلِكَ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

When anyone lands at a place and then says:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created,” nothing would harm him until he marches from that stopping place. Sahih Muslim 2708a

This Dua will protect you from any harm or negativity that may exist at your destination. It acts as a shield, ensuring nothing bad happens until you leave that place.

So, when you arrive at your destination, remember to recite this Dua and ask Allah SWT for continued guidance and protection in all aspects of your journey.

Dua for Seeing Someone Sick or Suffering During Travel

Dua for Seeing Someone Sick or Suffering During Travel

When we encounter someone who is ill or in pain while traveling, we need to make a Dua for them. We should pray to Allah SWT Almighty for asking for their healing and comfort during this challenging time.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH has informed us about a Dua to recite seven times while visiting a sick person. It is rather short, and requires less than a minute to complete.

“He who visits a sick person who is not on the point of death and supplicates seven times: As’alullahal-‘Azima Rabbal-‘Arshil-‘Azimi, an yashfiyaka (I beseech Allah the Great, the Rubb of the Great Throne, to heal you), Allah will certainly heal him from that sickness.” Riyad as-Salihin 906

This Dua not only expresses our compassion and empathy for others, but it also seeks Allah SWT’s blessings to alleviate their pain and suffering. We are expressing our concern for their well-being and requesting divine intervention in their recovery by making this Dua.

As a result, it is critical to remember this special prayer whenever you encounter someone who is ill or in pain while traveling.

Dua Upon Safe Return Home

After a long, tiring, and sometimes difficult journey, expressing gratitude and seeking protection upon safely arriving home is important. Offering a Dua upon safe return is an opportunity to thank Allah SWT for His blessings and seek forgiveness for any mistakes made along the way.

According to a hadith, when Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to return from a journey, he would say:

‏آيبون، تائبون ، عابدون ، لربنا حامدون‏”‏ “

“ Ayibuna, ta’ibuna, ‘abiduna, li-Rabbina hamidun ”

(We are returning in safety, turning to our Rubb, worshipping Him and praising Him).” Riyad as-Salihin 987

This Dua serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging Allah SWT’s guidance and recognizing His role in ensuring our safety as we travel. By offering this prayer, we express our gratitude for our successful journey completion and our trust in Allah SWT for future endeavors.

Reciting this Dua also allows us to reflect on our experiences, spiritually growing and appreciating the blessings of being home with our loved ones.

Importance of Duas During Travel

Importance of Duas During Travel

In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad PBUH regarded traveling as torment because it deprives a person of his food, drink, and sleep. Riyad as-Salihin 984

In another hadith a companion of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH narrated that whenever Prophet Muhammad PBUH set forth on a journey, he sought refuge (with Allah SWT) from the hardships of traveling. Sahih Muslim 1343a

Moreover, Prophet Muhammad PBUH has told us in a hadith that the Dua of a traveler is always accepted :

“‏ ثَلاَثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ لاَ شَكَّ فِيهِنَّ دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ وَدَعْوَةُ الْمُسَافِرِ وَدَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ ‏”

“Three supplications are accepted, there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of his father against his son.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1905

That’s why when you are on a journey, make Dua as much as you can because there is no doubt it is accepted!

A prayer for protection while traveling

It is highly recommended to recite a dua for protection while traveling in Islam. On the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari, one of the companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace:

When the Messenger of God feared a people, he would say: “O God, we will put you in their throats and protect you from their evils.”

When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, feared temptation for a people, he would say: “O God, we put you in their throats and protect you from their evils.” “O God, we ask you to confront them, and we seek refuge in you from their evils.” Riyadh Al-Saleheen 981

It is also recommended to seek refuge in God Almighty by saying: Allah is the greatest "(God is great) and" forgiveness of God" “(I ask forgiveness from God Almighty.) Donations before and after the trip also bring blessing and ward off harm.

Acts of supplication and seeking protection from God Almighty provide us with comfort and remind us of our dependence on Him throughout our journey.

Prayer for lagging parents

When we embark on a journey, it is essential to remember our parents who left us behind. We can pray for their well-being and protection by reciting a special prayer. This supplication was mentioned in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Isra, verse 24:

My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was a child.

“O Lord! Have mercy on them as they raised me when I was little.” 17:24

It expresses our love and care for our parents and we ask God Almighty to bless them even in our absence. By performing this supplication, we realize the importance of family and its role in our lives.

However, you should not only recite this supplication to your parents when traveling; You should read it all the time!

Supplication upon arrival at the destination

“Whoever stays at one place and then says, I seek refuge in the perfect words of God from the evil of what He has created, nothing will harm him until he departs from that place of his.”

No one who descends and says: I seek refuge in the perfect words of God from the evil of what He has created will not be harmed by anything until he departs from this stopping place. Sahih Muslim 2708a

This dua will protect you from any harm or negativity that may be present at your destination. It acts as a shield, ensuring that nothing bad will happen until you leave that place.

So, when you reach your destination, remember to recite this dua and ask God Almighty to constantly guide and protect you in all aspects of your journey.

A supplication to see the sick or injured person while traveling

Supplication of seeing someone sick or suffering while traveling

When we encounter someone who is sick or in pain while traveling, we need to pray for them. We must pray to God Almighty to grant them healing and comfort during this difficult time.

The Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, told us about a supplication seven times When visiting a patient. It's fairly short, requiring less than a minute to complete.

“Whoever visits a sick person who is not on the brink of death, then says seven times: Praying for God - Great Lord - Arshil - Azmi, may he heal you (I ask God Almighty, Lord of the Great Throne, to heal you. God will heal him from that disease). Riyadh Al-Saleheen 906

This supplication not only expresses our sympathy and compassion for others, but also seeks the blessings of God Almighty to alleviate their pain and suffering. We express our concern for their well-being and ask for divine intervention in their recovery through this prayer.

Ibon, repentant, worshipers, praising our Lord.”

" Ebona, be kind to us, be our servants, praise be to our Lord "

(We will return in safety to our Lord, whom we worship and praise).” Riyadh Al-Saleheen 987

This supplication serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging the guidance of God Almighty and acknowledging His role in ensuring our safety during our travel. By offering this prayer, we express our gratitude for the successful completion of our journey and our trust in God Almighty for future endeavours.

Reciting this prayer also allows us to reflect on our experiences, grow spiritually, and appreciate the blessings of returning home with our loved ones.

The importance of supplications while traveling

The importance of supplications while traveling

In the hadith, the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, considered travel a punishment because it deprives a person of his food, drink, and sleep. Riyadh Al-Saleheen 984

In another hadith, on the authority of one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, he said that whenever the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, went out on a journey, he would seek refuge from the misfortunes of travel. Sahih Muslim 1343a

Moreover, the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, told us in a hadith that The traveler's prayers are always answered :

“There are three supplications that are undoubtedly answered: the supplication of an oppressed person, the supplication of a traveler, and the supplication of a father for his child.”

“Three supplications are undoubtedly answered: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of his father against his son.” Al-Tirmidhi Mosque 1905

This is why when you are on a trip, pray as much as you can because it is undoubtedly acceptable!

Procedures for reading travel prayers

To ensure a safe and blessed trip, follow these procedures when reading travel prayers:

  • When reciting supplications, face the Qibla or the direction towards Mecca (if possible).
  • Raise your hands in front of your face, with the palms open, as this is the correct position for supplication.
  • Start your supplication by praising and glorifying God Almighty with phrases such as “Glory be to God” (Glory be to God) and “Praise be to God” (Praise be to God Almighty).
  • Pray for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
  • Ask forgiveness for any sins you have committed and pray to God Almighty to have mercy on you and guide you on your journey.
  • Read specific supplications for each stage of travel (as described above).

The role of travel in Islam

The role of travel in Islam

Travel has an important role in Islam, as it includes both the physical and spiritual aspects. It is promoted as a way to seek God's blessings and protection. Muslims can explore the world, learn about different cultures and strengthen their faith by embarking on journeys.

Individuals can witness first-hand God Almighty's creation and appreciate His limitless power through travel. They can also conduct religious research by visiting holy places such as Mecca for Hajj and Umrah.

Travel also allows Muslims to spread the message of Islam to new communities and promote interfaith dialogue.

Furthermore, travel allows for self-reflection and personal growth. It allows people to disconnect from their daily routine and immerse themselves in new environments that may inspire spiritual enlightenment.

Along with prayers dedicated to each stage of the journey, reciting verses from the Qur’an provides strength and protection while travelling.

To sum it up, travel is essential in Islam as it promotes exploration, education, spirituality and spreading the message of peace across various regions.

Travel supplications (common phrases, not hadiths)

The supplications mentioned below are not taken from any hadith; They are just common expressions of praise to God Almighty and asking Him for goodness.

  • Start your journey by praying: “Oh God, make this journey easy for me and grant me your blessings.”
  • While traveling, seek refuge by reading: "I seek refuge in perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created".
  • Pray for the parents you left behind by saying: “Oh God, protect my parents and protect them in my absence.”
  • When you arrive at your destination, express gratitude to God by reciting: "O God, thank you for a safe journey. May this place bring blessings and fulfillment."
  • When staying in a new place, pray for guidance and ease by saying: “O God, bless this place for me and make it a source of peace and reassurance for me.”
  • If you meet someone who is sick or suffering while you are travelling, pray for their well-being: “O God, grant healing and comfort to those who are sick or suffering.”
  • When you encounter any problems during your journey, seek help from God Almighty by saying: “O God, guide me through these difficulties and strengthen me to overcome them.”
  • After you return home safely, express your gratitude to God Almighty by reciting: “O God, thank you for bringing me back safely. I am grateful for the blessings of this journey.”
  • Finally, after a safe trip, close with a prayer of gratitude: “God, I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities you have given me during this journey.”

These essential travel prayers provide us with protection and guidance on our journeys. We ask God Almighty to ensure our safety throughout the journey by reciting these supplications.

Including these supplications in our travel routine will provide peace of mind and strengthen our relationship with God Almighty. Remember to turn to Him every step of our journey, knowing that He always hears and answers our prayers.

How does supplication help while traveling?

Reciting supplications can provide spiritual comfort and peace when traveling and facing difficulties. It is Islamic law that we seek guidance from God Almighty through these prayers throughout our earthly journey.

Are there specific supplications when riding in a car or plane?

Yes, Muslims recite specific supplications such as “Glory be to God, Most Generous to us, and to Him we are not bound, and indeed to our Lord we will not turn” before entering any means of transportation to avoid car accidents or plane crashes.

Can you pray for others through travel prayers?

certainly! There are special supplications to pray for the safety of our parents and to see someone sick, which are often used while traveling to visit loved ones or on Hajj. We mentioned them previously in the article; Go check it out.

What should I do after reaching my destination?

You should read" "Prayer of arrival" Because it is consistent with the Sunnah stipulated in Sahih Muslim 2708a and other Islamic texts such as Musnad Ahmad, offering gratitude upon safe arrival.

Dua For Travelling in English | Best Duas Before & After Travelling

Are you all set for your traveling be sure to recite these duas for traveling which are collected from the books of hadith..

by Mohammed Saadullah Khan

Allah SWT is the creator and sustainer of the entire universe. Every person living on this earth works day and night to fulfill his household needs and earns a living to feed himself and his family with great effort. If he does all these things under the commandments of God and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), then they all become acts of worship.

But if he does not follow the Islamic rules in these matters and breaks those by adopting illegal methods or starts killing the rights of others in the name of economic struggle, then this effort can become a source of disgrace for him in the hereafter. Islam has guided us in every matter and even Prophet (peace be upon Him) taught us the dua and manners for travelling also.

Why Do We Need to Read Dua for Travelling?

When we travel, we are surrounded by countless dangers. To be safe from these dangers, we can remove the possible dangers by following the commands of the Prophet (peace be upon Him) and the rulings stated by them. It is clear that by doing prayers, giving charity, and many other such things, and by following the rules and precautions, we can keep ourselves safe from every kind of danger. We should not forget to read dua for travelling before leaving our home and after coming back home.

Best Dua for Travelling in English

English transliteration : Subhan Alladhi Sakh-Khara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin. Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunqalibun

” title="Advertise and Market to Muslims" target="_blank">Ads by Muslim Ad Network

“So, that you may sit firmly on their backs, and remember your Lord’s blessings once you are settled on them, saying, “Glory be to the One who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own. And surely to our Lord, we will all return.”

– [ Surah Zukhruf ayat 13-14 ]

That is, among all the creatures of the earth, only man has been given the authority by Allah SWT to use boats and ships and animals as rides. Should he never wonder who it is that made it possible for him to navigate the great seas and who created some of the innumerable animals that became his slaves? Taking advantage of these blessings and forgetting the benefactor is a sign of a dead heart and a numb conscience.

Because when a person with a lively heart and a sensitive conscience sits on these paths, he will be filled with a sense of blessings and a spirit of gratitude and will cry: ‘Blessed is He who subjugated these things to me. He is purer than that another partakes of His being, attributes, and powers. He is pure and free from the weakness of being helpless to perform his divine functions by himself and dependent on other co-gods. He is pure that I should share these blessings with someone else.

Dua’s for Travelling From Hadith:

1. It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted his camel to set out on a journey, he would say takbeer three times, then he would say:

Subhanaalladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila rabbina la munqaliboon

English Translation : Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.

– [ Sahih Muslim 1342 ]

Dua For Traveling in English

2. There’s a popular Dua for travelling from [ Sunan Abi Dawud 5095 ] (graded as Sahih by Al-Albani) which we must read after leaving the house. I personally recite this Dua every single time before I start my journey.

English transliteration :

Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘alallah la hawla wala quwwata illa billah

English translation : In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a man goes out of his house and says: “In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,” the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?

You can also check the meaning of this Dua here .

Remembering Allah SWT at all times brings a person even closer to Him. Moreover, it only takes only a few seconds to recite this beautiful Dua that our Prophet (SAWS) taught us to read for traveling. When you recite the Dua, be sure to put all your trust in Him.

How to Start And End Your Travel With Dua?

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: Ali ibn Rabiah said: I was present with Ali while a beast was brought to him to ride. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: “In the name of Allah”. Then when he sat on its back, he said: “Praise be to Allah”. He then said: “Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return”. He then said: “Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to Thee, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only Thou forgivest sins.” He then laughed. He was asked: At what did you laugh? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do as I have done, and laugh after that. I asked: Messenger of Allah, at what are you laughing? He replied: Your Lord, Most High, is pleased with His servant when he says: “Forgive me my sins.” He knows that no one forgives sins except Him.

– [ Abu Dawood:2602 , Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)]

Authentic Dua to be Recited When Beginning a Journey

English Transliteration : Allahumma inna nas-aluka fi safarina hadhal birra wat taqwa, waminal ‘amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana hadha wat wi ‘anna bu’dah. Allahumma antas Sahibu fis safar, wal Khalifatu fil ahl. Allahumma inni a’uzu bika min wa’th-is safar, wa ka-abatil manzar, wa su-il munqalabi fil ahli wal mal

Translation: Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that whenever Allah’s Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said: Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from Thee in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth Thee. O Allah lightens this journey of ours and makes its distance easy for us. O Allah, Thou art (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with Thee from hardships of the journey, the gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Holy Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord and praising Him.

[Sahih Muslim – Reference ]

Gather all the blessings and avail forgiveness through dua for traveling:   How blessed we are as Muslims. Even when we travel, we have been taught such prayers by which we can receive the blessings of Allah SWT. We can ask Allah SWT to forgive our sins. Traveling may bring some kind of difficulties. The above dua will make our traveling easy and take away all the difficulties of traveling.

Dua When You Return From Traveling

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

English transliteration : A`ūdhu bikalimāti ‘llāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

Translation : Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When anyone lands at a place and then says:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created,” nothing would harm him until he marches from that stopping place.

– [ Sahih Muslim 2708a ]

Dua of Protection

We may not know who has stayed before or what events have occurred in our staying place before that may affect our stay. To read the above supplication is actually useful to protect ourselves from any harm. Likewise, this dua after reaching the destination is the protection from all evil and bad things.

Traveling gives an excitement to the soul of man and gives joy to his heart. And in the Holy Qur’an, God Almighty has called consideration of the living conditions of the past people as an example and a reason to learn a good lesson from them. The prophet (peace be upon him) has given great consideration to this important movement of human life and has given special importance to traveling. It was the blessed habit of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he used to read dua for travelling when he starts his traveling and end his traveling with dua.

Kesha & Reneé Rapp Update 'Tik Tok' Diddy Lyric in Surprise Coachella Duet

“Illusion” is the third single the British artist has dropped ahead of her upcoming third studio album  Radical Optimism , following “Houdini” and “Training Season.” The former debuted at No. 11 on the  Billboard Hot 100 , while the latter entered the chart at No. 27.

“[Releasing the album] feels good. It feels for lack of a better word — radically optimistic,” Lipa previously  told  Billboard   of her upcoming project, before explaining the idea behind the album cover, which features the singer floating in a wide open ocean facing a shark fin. “Throughout the whole record, there’s this idea of chaos happening around and me trying to push through it in a way that feels authentic and honest to me.”

As to how she got the name of the album, Lipa attributed the phrase to a friend “A couple years ago, a friend introduced me to the term ‘radical optimism,’” she said in a statement announcing  Radical Optimism back in March.  “It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life.”

The 11-track  Radical Optimism  — Lipa’s first proper LP since 2020’s  Future Nostalgia  — arrives May 3.

Dua Lipa's New Song "Illusion" Is Here: Listen & Watch The Video

Dua Lipa's 'Radical Optimism' era is in full swing — and now, we have a new song, "Illusion," with an aquatic-themed video. Check out the new banger, and its aqueous video, below.

Now that we've absorbed "Houdini" and " Training Season ," it's time for a third scoop of pop goodness from Dua Lipa .

On April 11, the three-time GRAMMY winner released "Illusion," the third single from her hotly anticipated new album, Radical Optimism , due out May 3. The percolating, endlessly catchy track arrived with a video where Lipa dances on a pool deck in Barcelona, with swimmers and surfers joining the party — a playful homage to the shark-infested waters of the album's cover.

Lipa first kicked off her Radical Optimism era in November with "Houdini," which she performed alongside the debut of "Training Season" in a head-spinning show opener at the 2024 GRAMMYs. The album follows her GRAMMY-winning second LP, 2020's Future Nostalgia .

"[Releasing the album] feels good. It feels, for lack of a better word, radically optimistic," Lipa told Billboard in March, when she also explained the inspiration for the shark fin cover art. "Throughout the whole record, there's this idea of chaos happening around and me trying to push through it in a way that feels authentic and honest to me."

Now, adding "Illusion" to the mix, Lipa has made it very clear the only way she knows how to cope with chaos is to dance — and Radical Optimism will continue the party that Future Nostalgia ignited.

Check out the video for "Illusion" above, and check back to GRAMMY.com for more news about Dua Lipa and Radical Optimism !

Everything We Know About Dua Lipa's New Album Radical Optimism

Backstreet Boys at the 1999 GRAMMYs

Photo: Ron Galella, Ltd./Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images

25 Years Of Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way": 10 Covers By Ed Sheeran, Lil Uzi Vert & More

To commemorate the anniversary of Backstreet Boys' biggest hit, take a look at 10 clever ways it's been covered and sampled — from Ed Sheeran's karaoke bit to a Weird Al special.

When the Backstreet Boys released "I Want It That Way" on April 12, 1999, they likely had no idea how beloved their smash hit would still be a quarter-century later.

Written by the Swedish powerhouse team of Andreas Carlsson and Max Martin , "I Want It That Way" is undoubtedly BSB's signature hit, particularly thanks to its memorable undulating melody and its long-debated cryptic meaning. But perhaps the most surprising part of the song's legacy is how it has resonated across genres — from a TikTok cover by Korn to a hip-hop sampling by Lil Uzi Vert .

As the Backstreet Boys celebrate the 25th anniversary of "I Want It That Way," take a look at how the song has been diversely covered, lovingly lampooned and karaoke jammed by an array of voices in the business.

Weird Al Yankovic (2003)

When the king of parody songs selects one to skewer, you know it's an iconic song. Weird Al Yankovic paid tribute to the largeness of the Backstreet Boys classic when he used "I Want It That Way" as the basis of a song called "eBay" in 2003.

Yankovic's chorus replaces the original's with, "A used pink bathrobe/ A rare mint snow globe/ A Smurf TV tray/ I bought on eBay." The Backstreet Boys send up appears on Yankovic's album Poodle Hat , which won Best Comedy Album at the 2004 GRAMMYs.

One Direction (2013)

Three years One Direction formed on "The X Factor," the five lads — Harry Styles , Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson — included a cover of "I Want It That Way" on their 2013 concert set lists, the young boy band paying homage to the ones that came before them. Though their English accents poked through at times, their version was loyal to the original, and got their crowds singing along.

"Glee" (2013)

Poking fun at the presumed rivalry between *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, a medley of the former's "Bye Bye Bye" and "I Want It That Way" was featured in Season 4, Episode 16 of "Glee." In the episode — aptly titled "Feud" — choir director Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) and glee club heartthrob Finn (Cory Monteith) face off in an epic boy band battle, which ultimately proved the groups' respective music was more cohesive than divisive.

Brittany Howard and Jim James (2016)

The lead singers of Alabama Shakes and My Morning Jacket covering a boy band classic. It doesn't sound real, but Brittany Howard and Jim James did just that in 2016 when they recorded "I Want It That Way" for an animated short cartoon called "A Love Story."

Released by the fast food chain Chipotle Mexican Grill, the clip was part of a creative campaign to showcase the company's focus on natural ingredients. Howard and James highlight the poignancy and versatility of the song by adding lush string arrangements and dramatic beats.

Backstreet Boys x Jimmy Fallon and The Roots (2018)

The 2018 live performance of "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots for "The Tonight Show" is arguably the sweetest rendition of the song — and not just because they're using a mini xylophone, baby tambourine and other toy classroom instruments. It's even more endearing than the previous collaborations between Fallon and Backstreet Boys: a barbershop singing version of Sisqo's "Thong Song" and a "Bawkstreet Boys" version of "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," with everyone dressed like fluffy birds.

The 1975 (2020)

British rockers The 1975 performed a fairly faithful cover of "I Want It That Way," hitting all the high notes at several of their 2023 world concert tour stops. But it's not the first time frontman Matty Healy has hinted at the Backstreet Boys' influence on his band: he told Pitchfork in 2020 that " College Dropout -era Kanye West meets Backstreet Boys" was part of their veritable moodboard at the time when working on their own song called "Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy)."

Lil Uzi Vert (2020)

In 2020, Lil Uzi Vert released a rap song called "That Way" that includes a refrain of "I want it that way" sung to the tune of the Backstreet original, but with an AutoTune twist. From there, the lyrics become quite a bit naughtier than anything the BSB guys have uttered in any song.

"I don't know how [the idea of] Backstreet Boys got involved in this song, I really don't," the song's producer Supah Mario told Splice at the time. "I think it was all Uzi. But it was a game changer."

The interpolation was so good, in fact, that Nick Carter even invited Lil Uzi Vert to collaborate: "Now you're gonna have to be featured on our next album bud," he tweeted upon the song's release.

Korn (2022)

Fans of Korn know that the nu metal band has a sense of humor, but few could've expected that Jonathan Davis and crew would post a TikTok of themselves singing "I Want It That Way" in 2022.

"I never wanna hear you say… 'Worst Is On Its Way,'" reads the caption on the post, a tongue-in-cheek reference to Korn's 2022 song of the same name.

Backstreet Boys responded on the app via a hilarious Duet video with Nick Carter. In the video, Carter — who sports fabulous metal eye makeup and a long silver wig — doesn't actually say or sing anything, he just drops his jaw in amazement.

Backstreet Boys x Downy (2022)

Downy hired the Backstreet Boys to poke fun at "I Want It That Way" with the now-viral "Tell Me Why" commercial in 2022. All five members — Nick Carter, Howie Dorough , Brian Littrell , AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson — appear as a Backstreet Boys poster on the wall that comes to life, using the "tell me why" hook of their hit to engage a woman doing laundry in a conversation about washing her clothes.

As Saatchi group account director Jen Brotman told Muse at the time, the nostalgic ad also spawned some memories for the folks working on the ad campaign.

"The moment [BSB] stood in front of the camera, they rehearsed 'I Want It That Way' just to get the notes right, and we felt like we were getting serenaded on set," Brotman recalled. "We couldn't believe how emotional we all got — there may or may not have been tears in some eyes. The song has always been a karaoke favorite of the team, so we knew which 'tell me whys' we wanted them to hit, and we still can't get it out of our heads."

Ed Sheeran (2023)

When he fancies singing a bit of karaoke, Ed Sheeran loves leaning on "I Want It That Way," as the star showed at his favorite Nashville bar in July 2023. A patron caught him on camera and his happiness level is undeniable when belting out this enduring pop classic.

As Sheeran told CBS News a few months later, he grew up on the pop hits of everyone from Backstreet Boys to Britney Spears . But what he said about "I Want It That Way" specifically may be the best way to describe its long-lasting impact: "You can't be in a bar, a couple of beers in, and 'I Want It That Way' comes on and not be like, 'This is a good song.' You can't."

Get Ready For Taylor Swift's ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Album Release: Everything You Need To Know

As we count down to Taylor Swift's 11th studio album release on April 19, feast on all the morsels GRAMMY.com has gathered about the Queen of Pop's upcoming "tortured poet" era.

The dawn of Taylor Swift 's "tortured poet" era is upon us. The reigning Queen of Pop is set to release her highly anticipated 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , on Friday, April 19.

Ever since she announced the new album during the 2024 GRAMMYs — while accepting her lucky 13th GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights —- Swifties have been meticulously analyzing every detail of her existence for clues about the release of The Tortured Poets Department .

Fortunately, Swift has been serving a lot of information to snack on. After revealing the cover art in an Instagram post before accepting her record breaking fourth win for Album Of The Year , she didn't stop the feast. From the full track list to a five-stage breakup playlist — and, of course, all the bonus tracks and special editions — here's all the breadcrumbs GRAMMY.com collected in preparation for The Tortured Poets Department .

All The Art Is Black And White

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)

The cover art for The Tortured Poets Department displays a black-and-white inset photo of Swift in repose on a stack of white pillows, with the album's title in uppercase white letters above her. The photography accompanying the album, including back covers and special editions, captures Swift in reflective solitude: standing before a body of water wearing an oversized white button-up, and in a pensive self-embrace against a stark black backdrop.

The photography for the album was shot by Swift's photographer since 2020, Beth Garrabrant, who also shot the covers of Swift's folklore , evermore , Fearless (Taylor's Version), Red (Taylor's Version), Midnights, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) , 1989 (Taylor's Version) . She's known for using a medium-format film photography that evokes an emotional closeness to her subjects — especially fitting for an album titled The Tortured Poets Department .

The Album Features Two Notable Collaborations

On GRAMMY night, alongside the album announcement, Swift posted the complete track list on her Instagram. The post included a photo of the album's back cover, showing a close-up of Swift with her hand on her forehead, overlaid with the text "I love you, it's ruining my life" in all-caps.

The 16-track release has been split into four sides and also features collaborations with Post Malone on Side A opener "Fortnight" as well as Florence + The Machine on Side B's "Florida!!!"

Check out the full track list:

** Side A ** “Fortnight” (feat. Post Malone) “The Tortured Poets Department” “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” “Down Bad”

** Side B ** “So Long, London” “But Daddy I Love Him” “Fresh Out the Slammer” “Florida!!!” (feat. Florence + the Machine)

** Side C ** “Guilty As Sin?” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” “loml”

** Side D ** “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” “The Alchemy” “Clara Bow”

Bonus Tracks:

“The Manuscript”

“The Black Dog”

"The Albatross"

The Album Title Hints At Another Ex

Mere moments after Swift dropped The Tortured Poets Department album name, the internet was ablaze with viral speculation that the title is derived from a play on ex Joe Alwyn's group chat, "The Tortured Man Club" with Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.

Alwyn and Mescal revealed their "club name" during an interview with Variety in December 2022 and it didn't take long for fans to connect the dots. Upon unearthing the tie-in, Swifties rushed to share memes and comment on the original interview across various social channels.

There Are Three Bonus Tracks (So Far)

Swift has revealed at least three bonus tracks for different editions of the album, each marked with its own "file name." The initial track list release, referred to as "The Manuscript," includes a bonus track sharing this name.

On Feb. 23, Swift posted a slideshow on Instagram to promote a special edition named "The Albatross." It featured the bonus tracks and revealed the back cover, which presented a track list alongside a contemplative close-up of Swift overlaid with the question, " Am I allowed to cry?"

Then, on March 3, she introduced the bonus track “The Black Dog” through a similar post that showcased new cover art, with the album's reverse side portraying Swift and the haunting text, "Old habits die screaming."

Lyrics Have Already Been Shared

Unlike her previous album campaigns, Swift hasn't unveiled any music ahead of The Tortured Poets Department ’s release — but she has dropped plenty of hints at the subject matter to come. Handwritten lyrics first appeared in the album announcement post, in a stack of papers inside a folder tabbed with a monogram of the album's name.

"And so I enter into evidence/ My tarnished coat of arms/ My muses, acquired like bruises/ My talismans and charms/ The tick, tick, tick of love bombs/ My veins of pitch black ink," is written above the sign-off, "All's fair in love and poetry… Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department."

Then, in an Instagram story posted on April 8 — the date of the total solar eclipse — Swift shared an image of a typewriter loaded with a sheet of paper stamped with the words, "Crowd goes wild at her fingertips/ Half moonshine, Full eclipse."

Swift Created Five Playlists To Mirror The Stages Of A Breakup

Gearing up for the release, Swift dropped a 5-part playlist series on Apple Music on April 5 featuring previously released work arranged in playlists that reflect the five stages of grief. The playlist for "Denial: I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life Songs," features hits including Midnight 's "Lavender Haze," and Lover 's "Cruel Summer" and "False God."

The other playlists run through the emotional gamut with titles like "Anger: You Don’t Get to Tell Me About Sad Songs," the midpoint "Bargaining: Am I Allowed to Cry? Songs," "Depression: Old Habits Die Screaming Songs," and finally "Acceptance: I Can Do It With a Broken Heart Songs." Each one takes listeners on a Taylor Swift escapade through love won and lost, representing what many believe to be a musical voyage through Swift's stages of grief following the end of her relationship with ex Joe Alwyn.

Each playlist also includes a description from Swift. For "Denial," it says, "This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion. Results may vary.”

As April 19 nears closer, take a deep dive into everything Swift has unleashed so far — and get ready for a lot more divulging once The Tortured Poets Department arrives.

Benson Boone Declares "Beautiful Things" Is No Fluke: "I've Tapped Into How I'll Write For The Rest Of My Life"

On his debut album, 'Fireworks and Rollerblades,' Benson Boone doubles down on the anthemic sound and cathartic narrative of his breakout smash — and promises this is truly just the beginning.

If there's one way to describe Benson Boone 's breakthrough year, look to the title of his debut album, Fireworks and Rollerblades .

While the name was borrowed from a lyric on the LP, Boone sees it as a metaphor for his life: "I feel like things have taken off for me like a firework tied to a rollerblade, all very quickly."

He's not wrong. In the three months since the pop singer/songwriter released the album's lead single, the booming ballad "Beautiful Things," Boone has held a comfortable position in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 (peaking at No. 2 as of press time), held a five-week reign on Billboard's Global 200 chart, topped charts in multiple countries, and amassed nearly half a billion streams on Spotify alone. The song has helped Boone become one of the biggest breakout stars of 2024 so far, but his talent is something many have been seeing for the past few years.

Building a career off of penning raw lyrics strung together with memorable hooks and thrashing piano riffs, the Washington native first made waves on social media and during Season 19 of "American Idol" in 2021, where judge Lionel Richie pointed out his natural talent: "You know, there's some folks who need to practice, and there's some folks who are just gifted at it." That same quality caught the ear of Imagine Dragons ' Dan Reynolds , who promptly signed the rising star to his Warner Records imprint Night Street Records right around the time Boone morphed into a TikTok superstar .

His powerful voice and penchant for vulnerability is what's had fans enthralled from the start, whether with early hit "Ghost Town" (a raw mediation on love with lyrics like,"Maybe you'd be happier with someone else/ Maybe loving me's the reason you can't love yourself") or the unflinching tracks on Fireworks and Rollerblades like the "Beautiful Things" follow-up "Slow it Down" ("I get nervous, oh, I'm anxious/ Maybe loving you is dangerous"). But for Boone, he simply doesn't know how to write any other way: "Nobody is going to relate to your lyrics if they're not real."

Just before releasing Fireworks & Rollerblades — and just after kicking off his sold-out tour of the same name — Boone spoke to GRAMMY.com about his success, debut album and the fine art of capturing authentic emotions in his work.

It's rare in today's zeitgeist to have a relatively new artist achieve the success you've seen recently. But now that you have the following, it becomes about following it up. So after the astronomical success of "Beautiful Things," does that make releasing your debut album stressful or stress free?

I definitely understand feeling the pressure for this album. But "Beautiful Things" was its own moment, and we worked very hard to get it to where that went — and I know that doesn't always happen, and I'm not expecting that. But I'm just doing my best to get the album to as many people as I can regardless of whether it doesn't stream at all or it does great.

I'm truly so proud of these songs, and I've made something I love and that I'm passionate about. So I'm just excited to get my first album out.

How do you usually write a song? Do you have one surefire way?

I think the last couple of months I've kind of tapped into how I'll probably write for most of the rest of my life. It's just me and the piano, usually late at night when I can't sleep. I'll sit there and start playing chords and singing random melodies. That's how it starts, and I'll take it down to the studio to beat it up and hopefully get a song [out of it].

Tony Bennett once said, "if you steal from one person, you're just a thief. But if you steal from everyone, that's research." When you were first getting started, who were your musical inspirations?

Growing up I listened to a lot of Billy Joel, Sam Smith , Adele , Stevie Wonder , and Queen ; these are artists who use their voice as the main instrument for their songs. I think I took a lot of aspects from that into my own music and that's kind of how I operate. So when I write, I let my voice lead where the song goes. I think that's what I naturally picked up listening to those artists.

Many of your songs have deep emotion at their core. For example, on Fireworks and Rollerblades , you have a song called "Cry" and the lyrics go, "Cry cry cry/ Go ahead and ruin someone else's life." These are heavy sentiments. Does a weight come off your chest when you write these lyrics?

I think every song is very different; some of them are sad and some aren't. But I do like to pull inspiration from whatever I'm feeling at the time. So whatever I'm going through, that's when I want to write a song; when I'm feeling those emotions the strongest.

No matter what situation I'm in, I always feel better writing something in the middle of whatever emotion I'm feeling. So it does help me. It's therapeutic.

Have you ever written a lyric and then wound up deleting or rewriting it because you thought it was too personal or too revealing?

Honestly, no. I never want something to come out about someone else that they wouldn't want out, so I would never name drop somebody or say something personal about someone else. But for me, I'm not scared to be personal; being vulnerable is the most important thing in songwriting.

When you're finally performing a song you've written however long after, what's it like to hear people sing these emotional lyrics back to you? Do they still have that power for you, or have you worked through them in the interim and they lose that grip?

I think depending on the song, they never lose their grip. A song like "In the Stars," I'll always remember why I wrote that and I'll always think of that. But when I'm performing live, I'm not trying to get everyone to think of my experience because I understand that everybody has their own experience they can relate to. It's not always my grandma, it's not always my girlfriend, it's not always my parents or experiences. It's the audience's experiences, friends, significant others. So when I perform, I don't always think of something I've written a song about but rather giving them something that they can take and grip onto instead.

Speaking of, can you take me back to the late night awhile back when you wrote "Beautiful Things"? How was that particular one born?

Well, I had just moved to LA, and all I had in my house were a mattress and a piano. There were two nights I could not sleep hardly at all and I went downstairs that first night and wrote its verse and medley. But I couldn't really figure out a chorus, so I went back to bed.

The next night I came up with a completely new song and idea, and wrote a chorus but couldn't think of any verses. The next day I happened to have a session with two people I love very much, Jack LaFrantz and Evan Blair, and I showed them the verses idea and we sat there and couldn't figure out where we wanted to take the chorus. So separately I showed them my other chorus idea, and Jack said, "Why don't we make it the same song and make this the chorus?" And that's kind of how the structure of "Beautiful Things" came, but we worked on it for a long time.

Once it came together, we were like "This song is insane and it has so much potential." I've never had a song written like that, ever."

Where did the name of the album, Fireworks and Rollerblades , come from? Do you have a typical way of thinking of titles?

Each one is different, but that title came from a lyric from one of the songs called "Hello Love." It goes: "I can try to blame you but my mind ain't safe/ Like two fireworks tied to a rollerblade." It always stuck out to me and in the session I wrote that, I said, "Dude, if this is part of an album, we should name it Fireworks and Rollerblades , imagine how sick that would be." Everybody was super hyped on the idea, and it actually happened. I loved the lyric and that sentiment.

It's also similar to my life: I feel like things have taken off for me like a firework tied to a rollerblade, all very quickly. And rollerblading is something I love, so it all made sense. I'm so happy with that title.

Let's talk about the single "Slow It Down," an ironic title considering it went viral immediately out of the gate.

I think a lot of people I talked to were like, "Oh the pressure's on for this song!" after "Beautiful Things." But I love "Slow It Down," and writing it was so natural. Some people were listening to me write it and it came together so organically.

It's another very personal song for me. I'm trying my hardest to do my best, and that's all I can do. I can't force people to like or listen to that song. I'm just hoping that it resonates.

How do you know when you're finished with something? Can you easily step away?

I try not to think of deadlines. I'm very particular about how a song sounds, especially its production and how the vocals are treated. Every sound matters to me. Some songs come together a lot faster. But if it's not a simple production, sometimes they take a while and I have to rethink parts and then go sit with the producer and have them do this and this. Some of them take weeks, some of them take months, some of them take days. Each song is so incredibly different.

For Fireworks and Rollerblades , some tracks took a lot longer than I thought, especially "Beautiful Things" actually. It's always a rollercoaster trying to finish a song and the last 10 percent is the hardest part. But it paid off, and I'm so glad.

Everything We Know About Dua Lipa's New Album 'Radical Optimism'

Dua Lipa could barely contain her excitement when announcing her new album, scheduled for release on May 3. GRAMMY.com rounded up everything there is to know about Dua Lipa’s upcoming era of 'Radical Optimism.'

“Who wants moreeeeeee?” With that teasing caption, Dua Lipa sent her more than 88 million Instagram followers into a flurry of anticipation on March 12 as she seemingly primed for a major announcement with a slideshow of behind-the-scenes snaps.

Just one day later, the three-time GRAMMY winner  announced her hotly anticipated third album, Radical Optimism , was officially on its way — complete with a May 3 release date, first look at the cover art, a complete tracklist and more. Lipa couldn’t contain her excitement about the project, punctuating her all-caps caption with a string of more than a dozen exclamation points.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DUA LIPA (@dualipa)

The album announcement arrives on the heels of a celebratory awards season for Lipa, who was nominated for two golden gramophones (including Song Of The Year ) at the 2024 GRAMMYs for “Dance The Night” and opened the telecast with an electrifying medley of her singles “Houdini” and “Training Season.” Additionally, her disco-infused Barbie banger scored a nod for Best Original Song at the 2024 Golden Globes and three separate nominations at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Below, GRAMMY.com rounded up everything there is to know about Dua Lipa’s upcoming era of Radical Optimism .

The Pop Star Is Nearly Upstaged In Her Wet And Wild Cover Art

In her announcement, Lipa shared the cover art for her forthcoming studio set and the result is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Shot by Tyrone Lebon, the image depicts the English Albanian pop star out at sea, her dark hair slicked back as she bobs in the ocean wearing a shiny gold ensemble with matching jewelry against a sun-streaked sky.

However, it’s entirely possible that, upon first glance, the “Dance The Night” singer isn’t the first thing fans will notice when they see the artwork. That’s because she shares the frame with a fearsome co-star: a shark glides past her in the foreground, its fin slicing ominously through the water’s surface.

The Tracklist Announces The “End Of An Era”

Lipa’s fans, whom she notably refers to as “my loves,” may still be obsessed with her GRAMMY-winning sophomore album Future Nostalgia , but the pop star makes it clear on Radical Optimism’s tracklist that she’s ready to turn the page.

According to the album’s watery back cover, the 11-track studio set will kick off with opener “End of an Era” before segueing into previously released singles “Houdini” and “Training Season.” Other as-yet-unheard songs on the LP include titles like “French Exit,” “Illusion,” “Falling Forever” and closing number “Happy For You.” And unless Lipa still has a few surprises up her sleeve ahead of the album’s unveiling, it appears that, for the first time in her career, there won’t be a single collaboration or guest artist featured on the tracklist.

She Thinks Radical Optimism Is “Exactly What We Need in the World”

Just one hour after dropping the cover art and tracklist, Lipa followed the reveal up with a video explaining the important meaning behind the album’s boldly cheery title. “I [can’t] wait for this to be yours,” she promised in the caption, adding a tidal wave emoji to punctuate her point.

“You know what the world needs is, like, the idea of being endlessly happy,” the singer says in the clip. It’s like an overpowering feeling, I want it.” Later, she hints at the emotional throughline that threads through her upcoming body of work, revealing, “Every song does have that kind of, like, ‘through the struggle you kind of make it something optimistic’...Radical optimism, that’s exactly what we need in the world.”

The Singer’s 2021 GRAMMYs Acceptance Speech Inadvertently Sparked the Album’s Ethos

As it turns out, the emotional concept behind Radical Optimism was actually born during Lipa’s acceptance speech at the 2021 GRAMMYs, where she took home the trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia .

“My last GRAMMY speech, I said something just in the midst of panic,” the pop sensation says in the aforementioned video, which flashes to her grinning on the stage outside Staples Center in L.A, clutching her third golden gramophone. “One thing I’ve come to realize is how much happiness is so important,” she said at the time.

“I felt really jaded at the end of my last album [2017’s Dua Lipa ] where I felt like I only had to make sad music to feel like it mattered," she continued. "And I’m just so grateful and so honored because happiness is something that we all deserve, and that’s something that we all need in our lives.”

Three years later, Lipa is channeling that mindset into her new music in such a bold way that she felt Radical Optimism had to be the album’s title.

She’s Assembled A Solid Group Of Collaborators

The singer’s latest Instagram post also gave fans a peek at some of Lipa’s most trusted collaborators on Radical Optimism . “Tobias Jesso Jr. Kevin Parker. Caroline Ailin. We have Daniel L Harle,” the GRAMMY winner notes, whirling the camera around to introduce each of her producers and fellow lyricists by name before gleefully exclaiming, “We’re makin’ an album!”

Gesso Jr, Parker, Ailin and Harle are all listed alongside Lipa in the credits of lead single “Houdini” as well as follow-up “Training Season,” so it’s a safe bet that fans will likely see their names throughout the credits when they hear Radical Optimism in full.
