WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Mexico Cruises Insider

Mexico is ready for you to explore at any time of year. In general, the weather is best between December and April — there's little rain, and the temperatures are very comfortable. The wet season starts in May and ends in October, while hurricane season (affecting mostly the Caribbean side) starts in June and runs until November.

When you travel to Mexico, one of the best ways to enjoy the country is by immersion. Try the local food, shop the local markets, and choose excursions that allow you to spend time getting to know a specific neighborhood, historic site or natural wonder.

Learn a few phrases in Spanish and speak to waiters, vendors, tour guides and everyday people. Ask about places to eat, the history or the music. Get out of your comfort zone and reach out to the people who know the country best — they can let you know where to go for the best price on that souvenir you're seeking or which beachside spot makes the best margarita.

7 best Mexico cruises 2024

Melinda Crow

Editor's note: This guide has been updated with the latest information.

Cruises to Mexico have an appeal that's hard to match.

Pacific Coast itineraries cover both Baja California (with stops in Ensenada), and the area farther south considered the Mexican Riviera (featuring the ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta). Where else can you spend the morning whale watching from a small boat, followed by an afternoon of shopping or enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine?

The ports on Mexico's eastern coast are often lumped together with other Central American ports or island destinations on Western Caribbean cruises . Do a bit of digging, and you can find three- to five-night cruises from Galveston, Texas; New Orleans; and Mobile, Alabama, that visit only Mexican ports, including Cozumel, Costa Maya and Progreso.

Beaches and water sports, as well as eating and drinking, are the primary attractions on cruises to Mexico. Both coasts offer ample opportunity to play in the sun and sand. The best Mexico cruises have lengthy port stops that provide plenty of time to explore, plus time on board the ship to relax and decompress.

You might even be able to cruise to Mexico without a passport if your cruise begins and ends in the same U.S. port.

So, what's the best cruise to Mexico? Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line run year-round cruises from the Los Angeles area and Galveston ports, while Princess Cruises, Holland America , Norwegian Cruise Line , Celebrity Cruises and Disney Cruise Line offer seasonal cruises to Mexico from the West Coast.

Occasionally, you can find luxury cruises to the Mexican Riviera on lines like Silversea and Regent Seven Seas . American Queen Voyages and UnCruise Adventures offer unique small-ship opportunities to cruise Mexican ports on both coasts.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

We scoured all the options and came up with the best Mexico cruises to help narrow your choices. Here's what we found.

3-night Baja cruise on Carnival Radiance

mexico cruises adults only

Carnival Radiance gets the nod for having a year-round schedule of short escapes to Mexico.

Carnival Cruise Line 's west coast Mexico cruises sail from the port of Long Beach, which is a fun destination in its own right, with beaches, water sports and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Carnival Radiance (formerly Carnival Victory) underwent a complete refit in 2021, adding a dedicated comedy club, top-deck water attractions and the first-ever chicken joint from Shaquille O'Neal, aptly named Big Chicken .

The ship goes to Ensenada and back with one fun day at sea. Water sports and whale watching in winter are among the top activities in Ensenada for Carnival cruisers. For a local lunch in port, order fish tacos; Ensenada claims to have invented the dish. Some also claim Ensenada is the original home of the margarita. Drink enough of those, and it won't matter if it's true or not. If margaritas aren't your thing, there are popular wineries in port worth checking out.

Who should go : It's no secret that Carnival's Fun Ships are known as party ships. This short hop to Mexico is ideal for residents of the Western states looking for an escape any time of year. The ship's atmosphere is enthusiastic and fun, which spills into Ensenada on the single port day of the cruise.

4-night Baja cruise with Catalina Island on Disney Wonder

mexico cruises adults only

Disney Wonder is one of Disney Cruise Line 's oldest and smallest ships, carrying only 2,700 passengers. However, it's packed with Disney adventures, including a musical stage production of "Frozen," character meet-ups and the most family-friendly cabins at sea. Wonder sails to Mexico from San Diego during the fall and winter.

Not every four-night cruise on Wonder includes Catalina Island, but if you can snag one that does, it's a huge bonus of family fun. Activities in the port of Avalon on Catalina include an amazing zip-line course of five lines. Soaring along the island's hillsides 600 feet above the beaches below, the adventure course takes over two hours to complete.

If your crew isn't into highspeed zipping, try a backcountry bison expedition or a relaxing day at the beach. Catalina is a charming island with a European feel, memorable food and a fascinating history. The second port on the itinerary is Ensenada, where the wildlife-watching or beach fun can continue.

Who should go: Disney Wonder is an ideal ship for family cruise travel from the West Coast. Features include the Marvel Superhero Academy inside the Disney Oceaneer Club, the activity space for kids. You'll have family-friendly accommodations on board, most with split bathrooms (one with toilet and sink, the other with bath-shower combo and sink). Parents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy a night out without the kids, dining at the adults-only Palo specialty restaurant or sampling an adult beverage at the After Hours entertainment district.

5-night Mexico cruise with Cabo overnight on Majestic Princess

mexico cruises adults only

Princess Cruises ' Majestic Princess is one of the largest ships that seasonally visits Mexico from Los Angeles. The vessel, which was originally built for the Chinese market, has been Americanized, but it still features some nods that include upscale onboard shopping boutiques like Coach and Bulgari, plus a relaxing enclosed top-deck lounge with gathering spaces and faux topiaries.

The ship sails five-night voyages that offer overnights in Cabo San Lucas. There are also some sea days mixed in.

After all those other cruise ships say adios to Cabo, cruisers on board Majestic Princess can explore the city's nightlife. Street taco tour, anyone? Tequila flights? How else can you enjoy late-night freshly fried churros on a street corner?

Who should go: This cruise is for anyone who enjoys exploring port cities more in-depth than what's offered by a standard port call and who appreciates less of a party atmosphere. Daytime activities in Cabo include sport fishing, wildlife watching, boat rides, camel rides, kayaking, parasailing and snorkeling. Add in evening tasting tours, and you're set.

6- and 7-night Mexico cruises plus Roatan on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas

mexico cruises adults only

Royal Caribbean' s Harmony of the Seas is one of the largest vessels ever to sail from Galveston, and there's a shiny new terminal designed to handle the behemoth.

Part of the line's Oasis Class , which includes the world's largest cruise ships, Harmony of the Seas carries 5,479 passengers at double occupancy. The ship features an open-air AquaTheater at its aft for high-diving and acrobatic shows, an ice skating rink, some of the most extravagant Royal Caribbean suites across the fleet and a park with live plants in the center of the ship.

There are several variations for sailings of both durations, but both offer ample beach time at Cozumel and Costa Maya, plus a third stop in Roatan, Honduras. The rest of the trip is all about fun on the ship as you cruise the Gulf waters for two to three sea days, depending on itinerary length.

Who should go: A Mexico cruise on Harmony of the Seas is ideal for big-ship lovers. Inexpensive flights into Houston's two airports make it accessible to at least a dozen central U.S. states. And for Texans who can drive to the port in less than a day, the fun of a beach day on Galveston Island before or after the cruise makes this sailing an easy choice.

7-night Mexican Riviera cruise on Carnival Panorama

mexico cruises adults only

Carnival Panorama is loaded with Carnival-style fun. From a jaw-dropping, nail-biting ropes course high above the decks to waterslides and an indoor trampoline park, this ship is a crash course in playtime. The seven-night itineraries sail from Long Beach and include all the main western Mexico ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, where the ship stays into the evening hours.

With three sea days, cruisers have plenty of time to enjoy the ship. The best part is that this floating thrill ride cruises this itinerary year-round.

Who should go: It's a great choice for families with tweens and teens because so many of the onboard activities are geared to them. Couples sailing without kiddos can enjoy adults-only areas like the Serenity sun deck retreat, a plush Cloud 9 Spa and Havana staterooms with their exclusive pool deck.

7-Night Expedition to Baja California with UnCruise

mexico cruises adults only

UnCruise Adventures does Mexico with an entirely different approach to cruising.

Leave the party ships and the thrill rides behind for an expedition adventure aboard the 66-passenger Safari Voyager. The ship sails from La Paz, Mexico, between January and June, taking passengers in search of gray whales, whale sharks, rays and an amazing variety of sea life, as well as wildlife on dry land.

Activities include kayaking, Zodiac boat rides, snorkeling, hiking and, of course, downtime at the beach. Safari Explorer is somewhat basic in its amenities. You can expect cabins that are quite cozy, but ample public space on deck to watch for sealife and meet your fellow passengers.

UnCruise fares include all meals, excursions, equipment, beverages (including alcohol) and airport transfers, leaving you free to enjoy the adventure.

Who should go: This cruise is for physically fit adults and families with kids ages 8-17 seeking adventure in the wilds and waters of Baja, California.

Related: Big vs. small cruise ships: Which will I like better?

7-night Mexican Riviera cruise on Discovery Princess

mexico cruises adults only

When Princess Cruises' newest ship isn't in Alaskan waters, it can be found cruising to the Mexican Riviera from the Los Angeles port at San Pedro.

The seven-night itinerary includes Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, plus three sea days to enjoy the ship, which carries 3,660 guests. Discovery Princess brings a bit of elegance to the Riviera, with afternoon tea and the ability to order the Ultimate Balcony Breakfast to your cabin's private veranda (for an additional charge).

While Discovery Princess is similar to most Princess ships in design and decor, it has something no other ship in the fleet has — two Sky Suites. Each suite has two bedrooms and a luxurious 1,000-square-foot balcony for unrivaled views.

Who should go: This is the best Mexico cruise for those seeking Princess' relaxed upscale mode of cruising. Children are always welcome on Princess, and there are plenty of connecting rooms and cabin options with third and fourth bunks. Though the ship offers a youth program, don't expect waterslides and thrill rides. The vibe on board is low-key, and the average age is a bit older when compared to Royal Caribbean or Carnival.

Bottom line

The best cruises to Mexico are the ones that suit your travel personality. Whether you're looking for a party atmosphere or adventure, there's a ship waiting to take you to Mexico any time of year.

Focus your search on round-trip itineraries from major ports in Los Angeles, San Diego and Galveston. You'll also find options for cruises to Mexico from San Francisco, New Orleans and even Mobile, Alabama.

Luxury Cruises to the Mexican Riviera

Mountains and desert meet the aquamarine surf of the Pacific on the Mexican Riviera, a playground of glamorous resort towns, golden beaches, enchanting Spanish colonial architecture, and jaw-dropping sunsets.

All your senses will be captivated on a luxury cruise to the Mexican Riviera with Celebrity. Taste local wines in Ensenada. Feel the sea breeze on your face as you sail around the rocky coastline of Cabo San Lucas on the lookout for sea lions. Explore the galleries and boho-chic shops of Olas Altas, Puerto Vallarta. Stroll the malecón waterfront in chic Mazatlán. You’ll absorb Mexico’s colorful culture in the street food, tequila, music, and craft markets everywhere you go.

Mexican Riviera Cruise Highlights

Glorious coastal scenery.

Whether you prefer long stretches of golden sand lined with chic restaurants and bars, or wild, wave-pounded rocks, you’ll find your dream on the Mexican Riviera. People-watch in the fashionable Golden Zone in Mazatlán. Take a day boat to the dramatic El Arco rock arch near Cabo San Lucas. Marvel at the ocean’s power at La Bufadora, Ensenada’s famous rock blowhole. Soak up the Hollywood glamor of Playa de los Muertos in Puerto Vallarta.

Art & Architecture

You’ll find colorful colonial architecture in many of the towns along the Mexican Riviera. Mazatlán’s Old Town is a maze of flower-filled plazas and delightful 19th-century buildings, many now serving as restaurants and galleries. In Puerto Vallarta, admire the Zona Romantica and the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, its steeple topped with a filigree crown. Head to pretty Todos Santos, a day trip from Cabo San Lucas, to wander cobblestone streets and browse galleries.

Creative Cuisine

Mexico’s vibrant cuisine brings ever-new discoveries as you sail the Mexican Riviera. There are more than 50 wineries in the Guadalupe Valley near Ensenada, so this is the place to head for tastings. In Puerto Vallarta, don’t miss pescado embarazado, fresh fish grilled with lime on a stick over charcoal, served with tangy salsa. Cabo San Lucas is packed with fine restaurants, but you can’t beat the farm-to-table cuisine here—all washed down with an ice-cold margarita.

Mexican Riviera Cruise Itineraries

Cruises with Celebrity to the Mexican Riviera last from five to 16 nights. Most are seven or eight-night voyages sailing round-trip from Los Angeles, visiting different combinations of Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Ensenada. You could also explore more northerly ports along the West Coast on a cruise that calls at Ensenada as well as San Francisco and Monterey. Or opt for a Panama Canal voyage between San Diego and San Juan, Puerto Rico, stopping at Puerto Vallarta as well as the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Curaçao. Finally, a long voyage between Valparaiso, Chile, and Los Angeles will bring you to exciting ports in Peru and Costa Rica as well as Cabo San Lucas.

Itineraries

Why cruise to the mexican riviera with celebrity cruises.

Soak up the sunshine of the Mexican Riviera on one of our luxury cruise ships. Lounge by the shimmering pool, or sample the cocktail menu in the gorgeous Sunset Bar, overlooking the ship’s wake. On Solstice-series ships, bask on the grass of the Lawn Club on the upper deck, and cool off with delicious gelato from Café al Bacio. Elevate your experience in The Retreat, offering all-suite accommodation, an elegant private lounge, and dining at the exclusive Luminae at The Retreat.

Whether you want to snorkel the coral reefs around Cabo San Lucas, spot breaching whales, shop for arts and crafts in Puerto Vallarta, or head to a waterfront bar to luxuriate in those glorious Pacific sunsets, this is the ultimate destination for sunshine, culture, cuisine, and a carefree vacation.

Cruise to Mexico

Why go on a cruise to mexico.

Mexico cruises in 2024 offer a range of itineraries that allow you to visit multiple destinations such as Puerto Costa Maya , Cancun , Ensenada , Cozumel , and more. A Cancun cruise, Ensenada cruise, and Cozumel cruise allow you to sail the seas around Mexico and enjoy their crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and activities such as snorkeling, diving, or simply relaxing in the sun. A Carnival cruise to Mexico in 5 days is also a popular choice for those looking for a fun-filled vacation, while a 3-day cruise to Mexico is a fantastic option for those who have limited time but still want to get a taste of Mexico. Opt for 4-day cruises to Mexico from Florida in 2024 if you’re looking to escape the US and experience the rich culture of Mexico.

How to find cheap cruises to Mexico?

To find lower Mexico cruise prices on Expedia, simply sort your search results by price to put the most affordable options at the top of the list. You will be able to find some of the best deals for your 3-day cruise to Mexico from Los Angeles or a 3-day all-inclusive cruise to Mexico. The cruise company also matters: Celebrity Cruises offers a more premium luxury experience while Carnival Cruises keeps cruise tickets to Mexico more budget-friendly. Keep in mind that flexible dates can also help you secure more affordable prices for a 4 or 5-day cruise. If you can, book your trip for 2025 rather than splurging on a last-minute journey. But if you're looking to go on a cruise to Mexico in 2024, Expedia often has great Mexico cruise deals.

What are some of the best cruise lines to Mexico?

Several of the best cruise lines to Mexico are available on Expedia, including Carnival , Disney , and Celebrity , all of which offer great cruise vacations to Mexico with such features as world-class live entertainment, shows, and activities for kids aged from 3 to 17. These cruise lines offer Cancun cruises, Baja cruises, 4-day cruises from Mexico to Florida, cruises from San Francisco to Mexico, and even Puerto Vallarta cruises. You can choose from various cruise durations, such as a 3-day cruise to Mexico, a 4-day cruise to Mexico, or even a weekend cruise to Mexico. There are also different points of departure, such as a 5-day Mexico cruise from Long Beach or a 3-day cruise from San Diego. Additionally, you have the option to utilize search filters to display results only from specific cruise lines or even specific cruise ships that you're interested in.

How can I find good Mexico cruise deals?

To find Mexico cruise deals on Expedia, keep an eye out for the green discount marker on the search result situated above the price estimate. This marker will indicate the maximum discount available on the deal currently running for that booking. Whether you’re looking for a 3-day Mexico cruise all-inclusive or a 7-day cruise to Mexico, be sure to check the details of the offer to see what's included. Keep in mind as well that a 4-night cruise to Catalina and Ensenada will provide a richer experience compared to a 3-day cruise to Mexico that solely visits Ensenada.

What should I look out for when booking cruise tickets to Mexico?

Location is one of the most important things you should consider when planning your cruise to Mexico in 2024. If you prefer a more upscale Mexico cruise trip which stops at more diverse locations, go with a Riviera Mexico cruise ship. A cruise to Riviera Maya will allow you to visit sparkling Caribbean beaches, have fun at adventure parks deep in the jungle, and go diving on beautiful reefs. On the other hand, Baja Mexico cruises usually stop at fewer locations which are likely to be cheaper. Baja Mexico cruises feature beautiful beaches, stunning desert landscapes, and great scuba diving. Timing is another decision-making element when it comes to Mexico cruise ship prices, you have various options such as a 5-day day from Florida or a 3-day cruise from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas. Early fall is usually the low season when you can find discount cruises to Mexico. June to August is a highly popular period when many people opt for a cruise to Mexico, which can result in higher prices.

Where are the best places to go on a cruise to Mexico?

Mexico is home to some of the best cruise destinations, including Ensenada , Cancun , Cozumel, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. Some longer 5 or 7-day cruises that travel to Mexico may include multiple stops, providing the opportunity to explore various locations along the enchanting Mexican coastline with its pristine beaches and welcoming shores. Riviera Maya cruises offer an abundance of destinations within close proximity, allowing for visits to numerous different locations. Cruises along the west coast of Mexico typically require longer travel distances between each stop, resulting in more time spent on the ship. You can take a cruise to Mexico from departure ports, such as a 3-day cruise to Mexico from Long Beach, or a 5-day cruise from Florida or San Francisco to Mexico .

When is the best time to go on a cruise in Mexico?

The optimal time for experiencing some of the finest cruises in Mexico is typically during the winter months, specifically from November to January. During this period, the crowds are generally smaller, allowing for a more intimate experience, and the weather remains warm and clear. However, December can be especially busy for a winter month due to the influx of holiday travelers. If you're planning a 7-day cruise in Mexico or a 5-day cruise, Expedia is on hand to help you find the options and itinerary to suit you.

How long does it take to go to Mexico by cruise ship?

If you travel from popular departure ports like New Orleans and Los Angeles , it will only take about a day or so to reach Mexico. For a longer journey, you could choose a 4-day cruise, a 5-day cruise or a 7-day cruise. Different cruise ships drive at different speeds, so your destination in Mexico also plays a role: a cruise to Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles, for example, can take longer than a 2- or 3-night cruise to Mexico. If you have limited time, opt for a 3-day all-inclusive cruise.

What are some great luxury cruises to Mexico?

You'll find some of the best luxury cruises to Mexico with Carnival and Celebrity . Specifically, the Carnival Sunrise cruise to Mexico boasts several restaurants and bars, a state-of-the-art spa facility, and a pool on the deck complete with winding waterslides. If you're seeking the ultimate luxury experience, consider the Harmony of the Seas from Royal Caribbean for a 7-day cruise in 2024. This magnificent ship offers a variety of amenities including a spa and fitness center, a sports zone, a park area, a boardwalk section, and live entertainment, making your cruise to Mexico truly unforgettable.

What are some good all-inclusive cruises to Mexico?

Norwegian and Royal Caribbean offer 3 day all-inclusive cruises to Mexico. These cruises' all-inclusive offerings reflect some of the best of what Mexico has to offer, including authentic dining so you can expect to enjoy delicious Mexican cuisine even before you reach the shore. Just relax and let the cruise line plan everything for you: your room, food, and entertainment will have already been paid for and arranged before you get on board the boat.

What's a great family cruise to Mexico?

When booking a 4- or 5-day Mexico cruise vacation for the whole family, Disney and Carnival tend to offer some of the best options that ensure all ages can have fun on their cruise to Mexico. Disney cruises often feature special shows with classic Disney characters that both kids and adults know and love. Imagine seeing Donald Duck in his little sailor costume on your cruise! A lot of the entertainment on Disney cruises is specifically catered to children too, but there are separate adult areas if you're looking to unwind with a bit of quiet. Another good option is the Horizon ship by Carnival cruise, featuring several outdoor pools, a Dr. Seuss-themed water park, and an IMAX movie theater.

What are some of the best Mexico honeymoon cruises?

A luxurious cruise on the Queen Mary 2 or the MSC Seashore are just 2 examples of great honeymoon cruises to Mexico for a 7-day cruise or 5-day cruise in 2024. The Queen Mary 2 by Cunard Cruises is outfitted with numerous luxury amenities and fine dining experiences, along with attentive staff who are personally dedicated to helping you make those precious memories on your 3-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas or other dreamy destinations. Meanwhile, the MSC Seashore by MSC Cruises will let you and your partner enjoy the journey to Mexico with luxurious staterooms, a spa facility, and even an onboard casino.

Can I book a weekend cruise to Mexico?

You can find a weekend cruise by sorting your search results by duration. A weekend Mexico cruise vacation is possible as long as you depart from a port in the southern United States, such as Miami, and don't venture too far south. For example, you can consider a 3-day cruise to Mexico from Florida. A weekend cruise to Mexico will typically involve leaving on Friday, enjoying Saturday or the entire weekend in a destination like Cozumel, and then returning on Monday.

How do I book a cruise to Mexico on Expedia?

To book a 5-day cruise to Mexico or a 3-day cruise on Expedia, the best strategy is to take advantage of available deals and try different dates to find the best savings. You can use Expedia's convenient search tools to narrow down the results. Once you've found a cruise you're satisfied with, booking a cruise on Expedia is quick and easy.

Do I need a passport for a cruise trip to Mexico?

For a 3-day cruise from California or a 5-day cruise from Florida in 2024 to Mexico, you always need a passport to visit Mexico, unless you're embarking on a closed-loop cruise to Mexico. A closed-loop cruise begins and ends in an American port. If your cruise, for example, sets out from Galveston , sails to Tulum , and then returns to Galveston, that's a closed loop you won't need a passport for. It is, however, always advisable to bring a passport when visiting a foreign country in case the unexpected happens.

Can I cancel a cruise booking?

Yes, you can cancel your cruise booking through the My Trips page on your Expedia account or by contacting Expedia customer service. Keep in mind that every cruise line has a different cancellation policy, so your refund will depend on which cruise line you book with, how far in advance you cancel, and if your cruise line charges a cancellation fee.

Why should I book a cruise to Mexico with Expedia?

Whether you’re looking for a 4-day cruise to Mexico from Long Beach or a 7-day cruise from Florida, with Expedia's huge inventory and advanced search filters, it's easy to find and book a Mexico cruise in 2024. You can book cruises to places all over Mexico, from the adventure parks of the Riviera Maya to the beautiful coral reefs of Baja Mexico. Plus, One Key members may even earn points on their booking, so join for free if you haven't already.

About Mexico Cruises

Most cruises to Mexico stop by the region that the cruise industry calls the “Mexican Riviera,” so nicknamed for its colorful oceanfront towns and long stretches of golden, glistening coastline. Whether your cruise ports include Baja California, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel or Ensenada, the destinations possibilities are endless.

Itineraries are split, naturally, by the two oceans. To experience the Gulf of Mexico on the east coast, join a cruise through the Caribbean and stop at Grand Cayman on your way to Costa Maya. The Mexican Riviera is compact enough for short journeys, with 3-night cruises available from Long Beach and San Diego that journey along Baja California. Other west coast departure ports such as Los Angeles , San Francisco , and Vancouver offer 4-, 5-, 7-, or 12+ night sailings to Mexico. A longer cruise to Mexico will give you more time in some of the best ports and may take you up into the Sea of Cortez too.

Mexico cruises offer a sunny getaway year-round, with August and September offering some of the best Mexico cruise deals, due to the hot weather.

Not in the Mood to Cruise With Kids? These Adult Sailings Are Totally (or Mostly) Kid-Free

From adults-only cruise lines to itineraries geared specifically to adults, on these cruises you won’t see many or any little ones..

Whether you have kids or grandkids or not, whether you love kids or don’t, sometimes there is just something extremely appealing about the idea of a relaxing cruise vacation minus the youngsters. That’s where adults-only cruises come in.

Back in the late 1990s when Torstein Hagen created Viking River Cruises , now by far Europe’s largest river cruise operator, it was purposely designed for adults with no kids allowed onboard . That philosophy stands as the company has moved into ocean cruises and expedition ships .

Likewise, when British billionaire Richard Branson launched the first ship of his Virgin Voyages cruise brand two years ago, it was with no one under age 18 allowed onboard. The cruise line later riffed on the subject with ads showing kids very displeased that they couldn’t get in on the fun with grownups.

While there are no other major cruise lines that outright ban the under-18 set, there are ways travelers can lessen the chances there will be many or any children on their cruise.

If you really want to avoid kids, don’t cruise during a school break period (such as spring break, summer, or winter holidays), pick an itinerary for more than two weeks (length being a deterrent to the family crowd— world cruise , anyone?), or look toward an ultra-luxurious cruise or one that involves an expensive airfare—not everyone wants to splurge on an upscale experience for their progeny.

Also keep in mind the smaller the ship—and fewer onboard experiences for kids (such as kids clubs and big water slides)—the greater the chance youngsters won’t be onboard. Here are our picks for the best adults-only cruises.

Adults will feel extra relaxed taking a dip in Viking’s heated salt pools.

Whether you cruise with Viking on one of the company’s many 190-passenger river cruise vessels in Europe, on the line’s 930-passenger ocean cruise ships that sail around the world, or on one of its two 378-passenger expedition ships, you’ll be treated to a fine-tuned cruising experience that is geared strictly to adults. You need to be age 18 and up to get onboard to enjoy the many perks covered in the all-inclusive fares. Those perks consist of shore excursions in every port, free wine and beer, all meals (including numerous restaurant experiences and nightly seafood buffets), engaging lectures hosted by historians and other experts, and Nordic spas complete with hot sauna, steam room, and a chilly snow grotto.

Recommended itinerary

15-day Grand European Tour , Amsterdam to Budapest on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, from $3,999 per person.

Virgin Voyages

Adult-only cruises offered by Virgin Voyages take place on three 2,770-passenger ships (a fourth is set to debut in December 2023) that sail the Caribbean, Europe, and the South Pacific. The onboard atmosphere is edgy, cheeky, full of subtle—and not so subtle—sexual innuendo, and fun done in an inclusive, adult way unlike anything the cruise industry has ever seen before . Expect lots of day drinking, lively nighttime parties and entertainment, an onboard tattoo parlor, and indulgent food, including an over-the-top molecular dining experience and the “Lick Me Till . . . Ice Cream” shop (for no extra charge)—in between trips to the wellness retreat with a mud room and ’80s-style aerobics classes for the full detox and retox Virgin experience.

4-night Fire & Sunset Soirée sailing , embarks Miami for Key West and then Virgin’s private Beach Club at Bimini in the Bahamas, from $1,606 for two.

Sail in sophistication—and likely without kids—on Azamara cruise ships.

Azamara Cruises

This upscale line with four small ships does not restrict kids but tends to attract well-traveled couples age 50 and up who like the idea of seeing the world from the vantage point of a floating boutique hotel. The onboard atmosphere on Azamara sailings is both convivial and sophisticated, on ships that carry a maximum of 704 guests. The vessels feature a library with faux fireplace, an upscale steakhouse for an elevated dining experience, and a “living room” for drinking and socializing.

Itineraries are focused on maximizing time in port, with cultural immersion including small group shore excursions and “AzAmazing” experiences where, for instance, you and other guests might be treated to complimentary private acrobatics show in Monaco. Special golf cruises with PerryGolf include play at such prestigious courses as Ireland’s Royal Portrush.

9-night Croatia Intensive Voyage on the 690-passenger Azamara Quest, from $3,516 per person.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

With a fleet of 490- to 750-passenger ships, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is one of the most expensive cruise lines out there and touts that it is “the world’s most luxurious cruise line”—a status it gets by, for instance, outfitting its latest ships with Carrara marble details, crystal chandeliers, over-the-top suites, and multi-million-dollar art collections. Fares include a broad choice of shore excursions such as a mud bath experience in Cartagena, Spain, premium wine and spirits, and business-class international airfare. While the line does not ban kids—and in fact, encourages families at holidays and on summer cruises in Alaska—not everyone wants to pay top dollar for experiences that may go over kids’ heads.

10-night from Miami to the Caribbean on the new 750-passenger Seven Seas Grandeur, from $7,199 per person.

Silversea Cruises

With its sleek ships, a focus on cuisine and drink as a cultural experience, butlers that pamper all guests, and an overall ultra-luxury ambience, Silversea is a favorite of well-heeled adult travelers. Grandparents may bring a multigenerational group onboard for a holiday or summertime sailing (the 596-passenger Silver Muse is the only Silversea ship with a children’s playroom), but with air-inclusive fares that start at around $800 a day, and no discounts for kids, you’re unlikely to have your pool time interrupted by shouts of “Marco Polo.” Rather, you’re more likely to hear someone call an attendant over for more champagne and a side of caviar, both complimentary and available 24/7.

10-night sailing from Monte Carlo to Barcelona on the new 728-passenger Silver Nova, from $11,400 per person.

Windstar sailing ship in Moorea

Sail away with Windstar—and without small kids.

Courtesy of Windstar Cruises

Windstar guarantees there won’t be young kids onboard—you must be age eight or up to sail. That said, it’s rare to see any kids at all. The upscale line’s 148- to 342-passenger ships deliver an intimate, adult atmosphere whether you are on a four- or five-masted ship with billowing sails or an all-suite motorized yacht. Cabins and suites are mostly designed for two and attract couples looking for romance at sea, in addition to excellent dining, enhanced by the line’s status as the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation. Borrow a kayak from your ship’s own marina by day and cap an evening of food and drink with quiet time out on deck, watching the moon reflect on the sea.

7-day Dreams of Tahiti on the 148-passenger sailing ship Wind Spirit, all-inclusive from $3,122.

It’s not that you don’t love the little ones. But every now and again, it’s grown people’s time. Don’t feel guilty. Instead, start packing your bags for an adult-only Caribbean cruise.

There are a handful of cruise lines that cater to the 18+ crowd and other cruise lines that are adult-centric; they don’t prohibit children, but they aren’t tripping over themselves to attract them either. This means you likely won’t find a kids club, a Frozen -themed theatrical dining experience, or a waterslide. What you’ll find are adult-only pools, decks, and quiet areas.

Here’s where to turn when you’re ready to set sail on one of the adults-only cruises in the Caribbean.

Virgin Voyages cruise liner in St. Thomas

5 Best Adults-Only Caribbean Cruises

1. virgin voyages .

Forget about long lines at the buffet. On Virgin Voyages , not only are there no buffets, but no designated mealtimes or formal dinners. This is not one a typical cruise line. You might think you’re at a Caribbean uber-luxe resort with 20+ eateries and menus crafted by Michelin-star chefs. Ship interiors were inspired by W Hotels and Soho House. They showcase the work of interior design gurus like Tom Dixon and Roman and Williams. For entertainment, there’s the Duel Reality Show, an acrobatic performance that takes a page from the Romeo and Juliet playbook. The Untitled DanceShowPartyThing is a wild, immersive dance show. The late-night PJ parties are legendary as well. If you’re not hungover, sunrise meditation classes await.

With Virgin, you get all that and itineraries like the Eastern Caribbean Antilles, an eight-night trip that sails from Miami to Puerto Plata, San Juan, St. Croix, and Bimini, before returning to Miami. In Puerto Plata, take your pick of adventures like a cable car ride up a mountain for epic views and lunch, rum tasting, or exploring villages, rivers, and waterfalls. In San Juan, it’s all about experiencing the El Yunque Rainforest, gallivanting the cobblestone streets, hitting the bars and restaurants in Old San Juan, or horseback riding. You get the picture, big-people fun. With just over 2,700 passengers, Virgin Voyages isn’t a mega-ship either, giving it a bit more of an intimate feel.

Morne Trois Pitons

2. Viking

If you have the pleasure of sailing on Viking’s West Indies Explorer, you’ll know this is not a trip for the kiddies. You’ll soak up knowledge from lectures like Explorers: The Age of Discovery , The Bayeux Tapestry, and Islands in History .

Spend 11 days in 9 countries. Start in San Juan and make your way to Tortola, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Barbados, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Thomas, and back to San Juan.

Hike Sage Mountain and end your journey on the beach or tour historical sites. In Roseau, Dominica, a visit to Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a must, as is snorkeling in the much-ballyhooed Champagne Reef. A stop in Philipsburg brings opportunities to create your own fragrance in a perfume class, co-pilot a multi-million-dollar boat during a pretend “America’s Cup” race, or enjoy a chairlift ride to the top of Sentry Hill. It’s one of the best Caribbean cruises out there.

P&O cruise ship docked in Australia

3. P&O Cruises

This UK-based company’s Aurora and Arcadia ships are adult-only ships. If you want a hefty dose of the Caribbean, set sail on the Aurora from Southampton for a 24-night adventure. Ports of call include Madeira, Portugal, St. Maarten, Guadeloupe, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Barbados, Ponta Delgada, and Portugal, returning to Southampton.

Highlights include Kingstown, St. Vincent, with its rainforests, caves, waterfalls, and swimming holes. Or you can set off in a catamaran for snorkeling and Princess Margaret Beach. Get off your ship with a big appetite when you go on shore in Guadeloupe. Fill your belly with the spicy Creole food at Point-a-Pitre’s restaurants. History buffs will get their fill of history in Bridgetown, Barbados. There are so many architectural and cultural gems that Bridgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with finds like the Georgian St. Mary’s Church, the neo-Gothic Barbados Parliament, the Garrison, and more. Save time for the Harrisons Cave, which includes caverns and waterfalls.

On days at sea, relax in the Oasis Spa, workout in the gym, and enjoy the pools and whirlpools.

Saga's Spirit of Discovery cruise ship

This is not only adult-only, but Saga is just for those 50 and older. While the Caribbean is the draw on this UK company’s cruises, you’ll hardly be bored in between excursions. There are lectures, theater productions, recitals, outside deck games, fitness classes, and exercise clinics where you can ask the pros fitness and mobility questions. For the crafty types, there are classes that could be anything from making jewelry and frames to creating mosaics, and more. There are culinary demonstrations from UK celebrity Chef Phil Vickery. The gymnasium has a swimming pool, hot tubs, sauna and steam room, and hydrotherapy pool.

Island Hopping in the Caribbean is a month-long romp in the Caribbean that begins and ends in Portsmouth, UK. The first port is Ponta Delgada in the Azores, and then it’s St. John’s in Antigua, Tortola, San Juan, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Madeira, and back to Portsmouth.

The port in Gustavia, St. Barts, is the stuff of movies with its mega yachts, tony shops, and restaurants. Get ready to profile with the pretty people. In Tortola, the secluded beaches and coves are ideal for a cuddly couple. Your stop in Antigua won’t be complete without a visit to a rum shop, either to taste or bring back gifts. A walking tour showcases the Colonial architecture, or maybe you’d enjoy a guided tour of the Cadres Reef. When you’re in the Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, street food from the market stalls is the way to go. Bird lovers won’t want to miss the Caroni Bird Sanctuary. Independence Square and the botanical gardens should also top your list.

5. Norwegian Cruise Line

When it comes to catering to solo travelers, the king of the hill among the big-ship lines in the Caribbean is Norwegian Cruise Line . The Miami-based cruise operator offers entire zones for solo travelers in the center of its Caribbean-focused ocean vessels.

Each of these solo cruiser zones includes dozens of Studio cabins for solo travelers, all clustered around each other and designed to maximize storage space. There is also a private lounge with a bar and television where solos can mingle at daily hosted happy hour gatherings. However, one big caveat with Norwegian’s solo cabins is that they’re all rooms without an ocean view.

Single travelers looking for ample relaxation might want to consider the “10-day Bermuda & Caribbean: Puerto Rico & Dominican Republic” cruise departing from New York City on Norwegian Getaway . Bermuda is the initial port of call, followed by visits to St. Maarten, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic

Norwegian cruise ships offer world-class dining options, bars, nightlife spots, and fantastic entertainment. With Norwegian’s laid-back dining arrangement, travelers aren’t constrained by pre-set dining times and table mates so they can invite newly made friends to dinner at a time convenient to everyone.

Pro Tip: On adults-only cruise lines, it’s crucial to respect the atmosphere by avoiding disruptive behavior like excessive noise or rowdiness. Additionally, it’s essential to adhere to the dress code for various venues.

Seven Seas Explorer

Adult-Centric Cruise Lines

While there are a handful of adult-only cruise lines, companies are increasingly offering adult-only spaces; be it adult-only pools, decks, quiet areas, and lounges.

Take, for example, Regent Seven Seas Cruises; it doesn’t have adult-only itineraries, but as an uber-luxe line, the demographics tend to skew heavily toward grown folk. The lavish suites, upscale spa, multi-million-dollar artwork collections, foodie-pleasing restaurants, and intellectually and culturally stimulating excursions won’t captivate the young ones. You’ll likely feel quite comfy on the Caribbean escape — Merengue, Salsa & Calypso cruise.

Celebrity Cruises also has adult-centric amenities. The Solarium is on the resort decks of all ships. It’s an adult-only pool area covered by a glass dome, ideal for reading, napping, or lounging with a cocktail, or in the hot tub. The adult-only SEA Thermal Suite boasts eight therapeutic experiences as a place to connect with other wellness gurus before or after treatments at The Spa. You’ll love the rainfall water therapy room, float room, and heated tile loungers. There’ll be no kiddies at the sunset or martini bars. You’ll vacay like a grown-up on Celebrity’s Caribbean cruises.

Uncover marine treasures! Book your stay at the best snorkeling resorts in the Caribbean and discover vibrant underwater ecosystems.

What Happens on Adults-Only Cruises?

Adults-only cruises provide an ideal opportunity to unwind and enjoy oneself without worrying about children running around. Adults-only cruises feature many adult-centric activities such as live entertainment, comedy acts, casinos, dance clubs, and more.

Which Adults-Only Cruise Line to Choose?

The choice of an adult-only cruise line depends on your preferences. Viking Ocean + Expedition Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises are the number one luxury cruise lines for adults, Virgin Voyages targets younger travelers and singles, while Saga Cruises and Windstar Cruises cater to older couples.

Which Adults-Only Caribbean Cruises Offer All-Inclusive Voyages?

For kid-less escape and free-flowing cocktails Virgin Voyages, Saga Cruises, and Silversea Cruises are your best bets. Yet, other adult-only cruises like Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Windstar Cruises provide more affordable all-inclusive fare.

What Are the Top Adults-Only Cruise Destinations?

Top adults-only cruises include the Caribbean, the Mediterranean , and cruises to South America where adult passengers can go on shore excursions, enjoy onboard entertainment, and explore some of the most magical destinations. When it comes to river cruises, Viking River Cruises in Europe are a great fit for adult travelers.

Which Adults-Only Cruise Ships to Consider?

It depends on your needs. Larger ocean ships can accommodate up to a thousand adult guests while smaller cruise ships board half of that number. If there's one thing Mexico has in abundance, it's fabulous all-inclusive resorts. From the rugged Baja peninsula to the mountainous Pacific and the idyllic Caribbean coast, Mexico is blessed with thousands of hotels. You won't have a difficult time finding an all-inclusive, adults-only resort in Mexico. Choosing one, however, is a different story.

Fortunately, I am here to help. In my 15 years covering Mexico, I have stayed at a dizzying amount of resorts in the country and can help you decide which is right for you. Selecting the right all-inclusive, adults-only resort for your Mexico vacation comes down to a few factors. What is most important to you? Is it the location? Is a beachfront a requirement? Are there enough restaurant options? Is the vacation for romance or fun with friends? No matter the vibe you're chasing, Mexico is guaranteed to have an adults-only, all-inclusive resort to match.

Our picks for the best all-inclusive, adults-only resorts in Mexico came down to a combination of T+L award winners and properties I have personally visited and loved. We chose these hotels based on standout service, notable amenities, range of activities, and delicious food and beverage options. No matter which resort you choose, you'll be enjoying all-inclusive, child-free luxury in one of the best vacation destinations in the world.

Atelier Playa Mujeres

Also available to book at Booking.com

A gorgeous boho-chic design and a lengthy list of restaurants and bars.

Guest rooms may be loud for the noise-sensitive.

The adults-only Atelier Playa Mujeres is six years old, but it's still turning quite a few heads. This luxe, 593-key resort found its way onto T+L's 2023 World's Best list, and we love it for its spacious suites — entry-level rooms are 742 square feet, while the top-level Inspira Suite is a palatial 3,000 square feet. If you can pry yourself away from the oceanfront views and fluffy, cloud-like beds, you'll have 13 restaurants and 12 bars to explore. You'll swoon over the 14,000-square-foot pool; other top-tier amenities include the 18-hole golf course, triplex spa, and state-of-the-art fitness center.

The Details:

  • Closest airport: Cancun International Airport (CUN)
  • Included with rate: Meals, drinks, access to amenities, Wi-Fi, minibar, 24-hour in-room dining, tips, parking, and more
  • Standout amenity: A 14,000-square-foot pool
  • Starting rate: $548

Excellence Playa Mujeres

Also available to book at Expedia.com

Beautiful pools and one of the best beaches in the Mexican Caribbean.

Several reviews note that food is better at some restaurants than others.

Another World's Best pick, Excellence Playa Mujeres placed on the 2022 list for its 450 suites and prime section of powdery white beachfront. Suites are more than generously sized starting at an impressive 800 square feet. But an upgrade splurge is worth it, from the spacious terraces and swim-up suites to the rooftop plunge pools. Those who opt for the Excellence Club-level rooms have additional perks, from access to all seven pools to a club-only beach area to daily in-room snack amenities. All guests, however, can enjoy the nine restaurants and slew of activities, from archery and water polo to beach soccer.

The Details:

  • Closest airport: CUN
  • Included with rate: All meals and snacks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, access to amenities, daily activities, tennis clinics, gratuities, Wi-Fi
  • Standout amenity: The Excellence Club upgrade includes additional pool access and a private beach area
  • Starting rate: $439

UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya

Spacious suites with swim-up access or a soaking tub on a private terrace.

Restaurant reservations are required.

UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya set the bar for the new wave of luxury all-inclusive resorts when it opened in 2017, and this resort stays fresh and relevant, even earning a spot on the 2023 World's Best list. We love it for the enormous suites — first-floor rooms have swim-up access and higher floors have terraces with deep soaking tubs. The pool is the heart of the resort, attracting a fun, social crowd of 20-to-40-somethings. The resort is tucked into a quiet bay just north of Tulum, and the crescent-shaped beach is one of the best in the area. My favorite amenity is the snuggly hoodie-style robe — I practically lived in mine from check-in to check-out (and they're available for purchase in case you find it impossible to part with yours).

  • Included with rate: In-room minibar, meals and drinks, land and water sports, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi, daily events, gratuities
  • Standout amenity: A calm, quiet beachfront that feels semi-private
  • Starting rate: $858

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort

A wide, spacious stretch of beachfront, with two lovely pools and a hot tub.

The ocean is not swimmable due to strong currents.

Perched on a secluded stretch of beach removed from the buzzy Cabo San Lucas scene, this all-inclusive, adults-only resort features 201 rooms and a dizzying array of activities and amenities. Guests have access to gourmet dining, the Armonia Spa, and the Jack Nicklaus Signature course at Quivira Golf Club — one of Cabo's most beautiful oceanfront courses. One of my favorite activities here is the "Hook and Cook" experience, where you watch the chef reel in fresh fish right from the shoreline before he whips it up ceviche-style for a delicious al fresco lunch. If you want to up the ante at this 2023 World’s Best Awards winner, book a stay in the even more exclusive The Towers at Pacifica, a hotel within a hotel with upgraded amenities (think 24-hour butler service, private plunge pools, and an oceanfront VIP Lounge).

  • Closest airport: Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)
  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks (plus access to restaurants and bars at sibling resorts), Wi-Fi, daily activities, access to amenities, 24-hour room service
  • Standout amenity: Upgraded suites and extra perks in The Tower
  • Starting rate: $455

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya

A beautiful beachfront resort with a wide selection of restaurants and bars.

The resort grounds are expansive, which can mean a lot of walking.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya may be centrally located, but its enviable stretch of pristine white-sand beach will have you thinking you've tumbled into a castaway fantasy. The sun-bleached stretch of sand is among the best in the area, and the palapa-topped buildings and thick jungle foliage only add to the romance. Still, the resort — which was a 2021 World's Best Awards winner — is anything but rugged, with elegant guest rooms, eight restaurants, and 11 bars. Guests can enjoy the nightly shows, live music, and the full-service spa, too.

  • Included with rate: Meals, drinks, Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, gratuities, daily activities, and access to amenities
  • Standout amenity: Two swim-up bars and a lazy river
  • Starting rate: $513

Hotel Mousai Puerto Vallarta

Two spectacular rooftop pools offer sweeping ocean views.

Beach access requires a short shuttle ride.

When people ask me what my favorite all-inclusive resort is in Puerto Vallarta, I always say this one. Breaking away from the popular earthy aesthetic, Puerto Vallarta's Hotel Mousai has a mix of styles that pull from everywhere — with art deco influence, 1980s neon, and a dash of surrealism. What ties it all together are the spectacular coastal vistas and endless included offerings. The two towers of Hotel Mousai are the adults-only, upgraded counterpart to sibling resort, Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa. Each tower has its own sleek rooftop infinity pool with unparalleled views of the Bay of Banderas and surrounding mountains. Guests can dine at any of the six Hotel Mousai restaurants, as well as the additional three on the Garza Blanca side. My favorites are Hiroshi, Dao, and Bocados. A brand-new shopping plaza offers additional dining venues and high-end shopping curated from a collection of local designers. A third tower with a larger spa is expected in 2025.

  • Closest airport: Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR)
  • Included with rate: Meals, snacks, and beverages at on-site restaurants (plus restaurants at Garza Blanca), 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi, access to amenities, daily activities, gratuities
  • Standout amenity: Each room has a private plunge pool on the terrace
  • Starting rate: $623

Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos

An exclusive, adults-only hideaway attached to Grand Velas Los Cabos.

Starting room rates are expensive compared to others on this list.

The newest addition to the Los Cabos all-inclusive scene, Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos is an intimate hotel within a hotel. Adjacent to the already-renowned Grand Velas Los Cabos (which is left off this list only because it isn't adults-only), the new boutique-style hotel offers all the luxury of the original, minus the kids. With only 79 suites and a naturally protected stretch of beach, this all-inclusive resort is the perfect complement to an already stellar resort concept. We love the bohemian-chic design and the sparkling infinity pool that overlooks the Pacific. Suites start at more than 900 square feet, and each has a private terrace and Jacuzzi. Grand Velas Boutique has exclusive restaurants, and guests also have the option to dine at Grand Velas next door. Boutique guests also have access to the SE Spa.

  • Closest airport: SJD
  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, Wi-Fi, access to amenities, activities, gratuities
  • Standout amenity: Suites start at 900 square feet and have Jacuzzi tubs
  • Starting rate: $1,240

Beloved Playa Mujeres

Also available to book at Hotels.com

Sprawling suites built just for two have private whirlpool tubs.

The resort has a couples-only policy.

It doesn't get more romantic than a resort that is dedicated exclusively to couples, except maybe a couples-only resort that overlooks one of the best beaches in the Mexican Caribbean. The intimate Beloved Playa Mujeres enjoys coveted real estate in the growing Costa Mujeres area north of Cancun. Made up entirely of suites, lovebirds are invited to steal away into their private outdoor plunge pools, in-room Jacuzzis, or one of the many beautifully manicured corners of the resort. Couples can reconnect over a cooking class or a beachfront candlelit dinner. My favorite spot at this resort is its signature spa, one of the most impressive in Cancun. Don’t leave without trying the hydrotherapy circuit — it’s heavenly.

  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, 24-hour room service, minibar, access to amenities, laundry service, Wi-Fi, gratuities
  • Standout amenity: All suites feature a private plunge pool
  • Starting rate: $589

Hotel Xcaret Arte

Spectacularly designed rooms and one of the best culinary programs in Mexico.

With 900 rooms, it’s one of the largest resorts in the area.

At Hotel Xcaret Arte, it’s all about attention to detail. The second all-inclusive resort to open under the Grupo Xcaret brand, this resort is a mirror image of the next-door family-friendly Hotel Xcaret, except this resort is dedicated to adults. Spread across six distinct art-themed Casas, guests of Xcaret Arte are treated to an extensive list of inclusions, from airport transfers and all food and beverages to unlimited access to Xcaret’s amusement parks around the Riviera Maya. My favorite Casa is Casa de los Artistas, which operates like a hotel within a hotel with a private rooftop pool and bar, as well as a private gym. Guests are also entitled to experience Xcaret Xailing, a ferry service to Isla Mujeres, as well as a sunset party cruise, all included in the rate. The resort may be massive with 900 rooms, but with 10 restaurants, a beach, multiple pools, and a spa tucked into underground caves and grottos, it’s easy for everyone to spread out.

  • Included with rate: Meals, drinks, airport transfers, ferry service, access to resort amenities (including unlimited access to all Grupo Xcaret parks)
  • Standout amenity: Cenote-inspired Muluk Spa
  • Starting rate: $719

La Casa de la Playa Xcaret

Each room is more than 1,000 square feet.

Rooms are among some of the most expensive in the Riviera Maya.

Grupo Xcaret raised the bar yet again with the opening of La Casa de la Playa. The newest resort in their all-inclusive portfolio, this intimate adults-only resort was designed with exclusivity as its highest priority. The hotel features 63 impressive ocean-view suites, each with its own design and personality. All measure more than 1,000 square feet with ocean views and private pools. Much like sibling resorts Hotel Xcaret and Hotel Xcaret Arte, La Casa de La Playa is all about inclusions. The difference, however, is just how exclusive these inclusions are. Tailor-made experiences include private dinners in cenotes, morning purification rituals, and private adventure tours through yawning caverns. Restaurant concepts have been cooked up by iconic Mexican chefs like Martha Ortiz, Virgilio Martinez, and the Rivera-Rio brothers, while the Muluk Spa features two salt rooms and two mud rooms, all with ocean views.

  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks (including dining at sibling resorts), 24-hour butler service, airport transport, access to amenities across Grupo Xcaret, exclusive activities
  • Standout amenity: All suites feature private pools
  • Starting rate: $1,800

Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun

Courtesy of Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun

Available to book at Booking.com

An intimate resort with one of the best beachfront locations in Cancun.

Top-shelf spirits may come at an additional charge.

With one of the best beachfront locations in Cancun's Hotel Zone, Live Aqua Cancun comes with a considerable list of bragging rights. A 2019 renovation upped the all-suite room count to 371 and introduced tech touches like surround sound and smart controls. Dining here is exceptional at all seven restaurants, though my favorite is the toes-in-the-sand Sea Corner for its casual ceviche and tacos. Seven pools are scattered around the property, each one at a different temperature, and guests are treated to daily activities and themed nights. The spa has 12 treatment rooms, as well as a traditional Mexican temazcal sweat lodge.

  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, access to amenities, daily activities, themed nights, Wi-Fi, gratuities
  • Standout amenity: A temazcal in the spa
  • Starting rate: $673

Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets

A fleet of e-bikes encourages the exploration of bohemian Isla Mujeres.

A dress code is enforced at certain restaurants.

Across the Caribbean Sea from the glittering skyline of the Cancun Hotel Zone, Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a posh playground reserved exclusively for adults. The second resort to open as part of the new Impression by Secrets brand, this 125-room hotel is secluded and intimate. Guests arrive at the five-mile-long island by complimentary boat transfers to the property's private dock. Rooms are decked out with locally sourced materials, like a textured accent wall and beautiful, handmade woven art. Private balconies boast hot tubs and outdoor living rooms. Outside the rooms, guests will find a sparkling beachfront, a four-story waterslide, seven restaurants, and five bars. For the perfect sunset experience, head up to the rooftop Unik The Kitchen and sip a beautifully crafted cocktail while drinking in the view of Cancun in the distance.

  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, 24-hour in-room dining, daily bottle of sparkling wine, personal butler service, minibar, laundry service, complimentary wellness experience
  • Standout amenity: Speedboat transfer to the resort’s private dock
  • Starting rate: $625

Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel & Romantic Getaway

The experience of an all-inclusive resort within walking distance of downtown Puerto Vallarta.

The beaches in Puerto Vallarta are fine, but not spectacular.

Puerto Vallarta has plenty of all-inclusive resorts, but the best part of this city is its eclectic, vibrant downtown scene. So when you have a resort that combines the best of both worlds, you know it's something to talk about. Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel & Romantic Getaway has a prime beachfront address that is within walking distance to the heart of downtown. The intimate 80-room adults-only resort features everything from yoga classes and beachfront Bali beds to a five-minute de-stressing massage and a personal concierge. Customize your room with a pillow and aromatherapy menu and then soak up the views of the Bay of Banderas from your ocean-view terrace. One of my most memorable experiences here was the private romantic dinner out on the jetty. Set at sunset, this gorgeous experience included a live violinist and three decadent courses.

  • Closest airport: PVR
  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, 24-hour in-room dining, minibar, butler services, activities, access to amenities
  • Standout amenity: Two oceanfront pools and unique private dining experiences
  • Starting rate: $261

A chic, garden oasis-style resort that's close to the airport, but feels like a world away.

You have to take a shuttle to access the private beach club.

Elegant and secluded, Casa Velas is a classic Spanish hacienda-style resort tucked away in the exclusive Marina Vallarta community. Shrouded in gorgeous jungle greenery, the Eden-inspired resort feels like an oasis, close enough to be a stone's throw from the airport, but decidedly far enough removed. Roaming peacocks and languidly swaying palm trees set the tone for an enchanting stay. The small resort has only 80 rooms, as well as a large central swimming pool lined with cabanas. While the resort is not on the beach, guests can take a quick shuttle to Tau Beach Club, where they have preferential seating and all meals included. Guests can also take a shuttle to sibling resort, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, for additional restaurant options and one of the best beaches in the area.

  • Included with rate: Meals and drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, access to sibling resort Velas Vallarta, and more
  • Standout amenity: Tau Beach Club
  • Starting rate: $446

Know Before You Go

  • Consider the season: Mexico's idyllic tropical climate means it is also at risk for hurricanes. Hurricane season runs from June through November. Rates will be considerably cheaper during these times, but they come with the risk of a soggy (or possibly washed-out) vacation.
  • Tip in pesos: Tips are included at many all-inclusive resorts, but some guests feel inspired to leave a little something extra. While you may see guests tipping hotel employees in U.S. dollars, it's a hassle for employees to exchange foreign currency. Tipping in pesos is always preferred.
  • Feel free to roam: All-inclusive resorts make vacationing super convenient, but don't be afraid to venture off-property and experience Mexican culture outside of the gates.

How We Chose These Hotels

Selecting the best all-inclusive, adults-only resorts in Mexico is a daunting task. A few of these hotels made the list because they've been recognized in our annual World's Best Awards, voted on by thousands of T+L readers from around the world. In addition to these internationally recognized properties, the author of this article, Meagan Drillinger , contributed her expertise. She has been covering Mexico since 2009 and has personally visited hundreds (yes, hundreds) of accommodations all around Mexico. She focused on her personal experiences, which evaluated the quality of the guest experience, design, amenities, and location. In her 15 years covering the destination, Drillinger has spent more time on the ground in Mexico than anywhere else in the world.

Come aboard our adults-only cruises for a kids-free getaway at sea.

Children are one of life’s great joys, but on Virgin Voyages, we believe absence makes the heart grow fonder, especially while on a cruise vacation. That’s why, despite the fact that our adult only cruise ships are a playground for your inner child, we’ve chosen to curate an adults-only cruise experience.

Why We're the Best Cruise Line for Adults

Whether you choose to jumpstart the morning with a wheatgrass shot from Gym & Tonic or a Filthy Mary from The Red Bar, you can trust that any path you take will remain unobstructed by little feet. We’re proud of our design-forward eateries and bars and we created them specifically for adults, either for mingling with like-minded adventurers or for cozying up and reconnecting with the person you came aboard with. On top of the spaces themselves being kid-free havens, the menu items served within may also be a little advanced for the average tyke. Between hibachi crudo and filets at The Wake, carpaccio and truffle pasta at Extra Virgin, and mezcal pairings at Pink Agave, we keep our food and drink offerings mature and unexpected. And the best part? Dining is included in your voyage fare.

The adults only lifestyle continues whenever we dock, with pages of Shore Things excursions tailored to sophisticated tastes in sight-seeing and cuisine in every port, whether you're a first time cruiser, traveling solo, or bringing the love on a couples cruise . While we know every child has a spark of genius, we don’t know many who’d be riveted by (or at least not get restless on) a medieval heritage tour through the white-stoned streets of Dubrovnik. From artisan honey-making in Ajaccio to sampling craft brews in Zeebrugge, every Virgin destination from A to Z boasts activities best enjoyed by those 18 and up.

Luxuries and Pleasures, All Designed for Adults

Once you’re back on the ship after a day of exploration, award-winning entertainment options will reinforce the wisdom of leaving the kids at home . We’re more “Romeo and Juliet reimagined in a circus” than themed character dinners, if you will; more immersive cabaret than 7 pm movie and jammies. But let’s be clear, being an adult means you vacation however you want, whenever you want. So if being in bed by 7 pm is your idea of the perfect evening, we encourage that.

And with free, reliable Wi-Fi available everywhere on our cruise ships, you’re just a video call away from any little ones you may have left on land, whether for a good night story, or a good night kiss.

All Adult Cruise Experience

There you have it: our case for remaining an adult-only cruise experience . Aboard a Virgin Voyage , you can stretch out Lagoon-side with a drink in one hand and a book in the other (how many pages you’ve read is none of our business) without fear of a rogue cannonball spoiling the relaxation. According to Josh Rivera, Consumer Travel Editor for the USA Today, "It feels like an upscale PlayPlace for adults. In the best way possible. Different from other lines, Virgin’s vibe was engaging, and knowing that passengers were all there without kids, all looking to have a good time , changed the atmosphere."

2024 & 2025 Adult Cruise Vacations

Be sure to checkout our 2024 adult cruises, and 2025 cruises for adults , the possibilities are endless with over 100 dreamy destinations to select from. Set sail and enjoy  Caribbean cruises filled with sun, sand, and sea , or discover unforgettable Europe Cruises filled with scenic beauty and rich history . Take advantage of 2024 cruise deals, some with drink packages to enhance your vacation fun!

author image

See recent posts by Kelsey Blodget

If a beach getaway with unlimited indulgent meals and exquisite cocktails sounds like your idea of a vacation, then we’ve got some great options for you. These all-inclusive resorts are among the best in the Caribbean and Mexico — and they sit right on the beach. What’s more? They’re adults-only, so you can enjoy some R&R without getting interrupted by squealing kids. So whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway with your honey, a solo re-set, or a girl’s trip, read on for the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts on the beach.

1. Excellence Oyster Bay, Jamaica

Aerial view of Excellence Oyster Bay, Jamaica

Are you looking for sun, blue seas, perfectly white sand, and a just-lively-enough adults-only atmosphere on your own secluded Jamaican peninsula? Excellence Oyster Bay might be perfect for you. Here, you’ll find spacious rooms and suites, all with terraces that feature private hot tubs or pools, and almost all with a view of the sea. The dining options are numerous, classy, and varied, including an extensive breakfast and lunch buffet, plus Italian, Spanish, and Asian a la carte options for dinner. The resort has one of the nicest spas in the area, which includes a relaxing hydrotherapy circuit, and the white-sand beach stretches the length of the resort. The vibe here is luxurious without being pretentious, and evening shows draw large crowds of resort guests. The private peninsula setting makes you feel worlds away from the rest of Jamaica , or anywhere else, which is what resort life is all about. Looking for something even more exclusive? Check out their beach villas, which are new as of 2019.

2. Sandals LaSource Grenada

Sandals LaSource Grenada

This 225-room luxury all-inclusive, couples-only resort is set over a sprawling 17-acre property on the southwestern tip of Grenada. It’s definitely geared for romance rather than partiers, with romantic touches such as fire pits, gazebos, and swinging chairs on a pier looking out over the water. All of those features add up to make the property distinctly Sandals. Some rooms have private pools, soaking tubs, and butler service, and the sophisticated, modern decor is a major draw here. The white-sand beach is lovely, if a bit small for the size of the property.

3. Excellence Playa Mujeres, Mexico

Excellence Playa Mujeres, Mexico

Excellence resorts are so nice we named them twice (in this list, at least). Here, the Excellence outpost sits to the north of Cancún, in the posh Playa Mujeres resort community. Modern, luxurious rooms are huge and have big whirlpool tubs; while certain categories have swim-up access or private plunge pools. Features are almost too numerous to count and include seven pools, 10 restaurants, 11 bars, and a high-end spa. The secluded location is part of the appeal for many, but keep in mind that you’re not coming here to party like a rock star. Instead, the vibe is a blend of just lively enough and tranquil, and the beach is pretty as a picture.

4. Le Blanc Spa Resort, Cancún

Le Blanc Spa Resort, Cancún

Easily one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in all of Cancún, the original Le Blanc Spa Resort stands out for its gorgeous white-sand beach and luxury-level services. It’s situated right in the heart of the Hotel Zone and features high-end perks like a decadent spa (guests get free access to the hydrotherapy area), stunning pools with swim-up bars, and especially its pampering service. Butlers will unpack your clothes and pool attendants provide cool towels for your eyes while you soak up the sun. The white-on-white decor feels fresh and contemporary, and the modern, bright rooms feature two-person whirlpool tubs; most have either ocean or lagoon views. Dining is incredibly varied and scores high marks from previous guests.

5. Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, Mexico

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, Mexico

Romantic and for adults only, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is set on a pretty stretch of white-sand beach and features numerous well-liked dining options. And what goes better with unlimited dining? Unlimited top-shelf cocktails. To that end, you’ll find no fewer than six bars throughout the property, as well as a great pool area. Rooms are large and tasteful, with four-poster canopy beds, separate sitting areas, and private balconies. Travelers who’d like direct pool access can opt for one of the ground floor rooms, which are swim-up suites. The spa makes for a romantic break on any day, between trips to the beach and pool.

6. Warwick Paradise Island, The Bahamas

Warwick Paradise Island, The Bahamas

Situated on Nassau Harbor on Paradise Island — home to the Atlantis Resorts — Warwick Paradise Island is an upscale adults-only resort with 250 rooms and suites. The style here is fresh and modern, which isn’t always the case on Paradise Island or at Bahamas all-inclusive resorts Each come with solid amenities and many have balconies with views out over the harbor. The white sand beach at Warwick Paradise Island features a small, enclosed swimming area and free snorkeling equipment. There’s also a huge lagoon pool with plenty of lounge chairs to go around. The all-inclusive package includes tips and covers a wide variety of a la carte and buffet restaurants offering everything from pan-Asian fare to pizza. Wellness facilities are also extensive, with a gym, tennis, basketball, and the lovely Amber Spa.

7. Sanctuary Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

Sanctuary Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

Sanctuary Cap Cana is a perennial favorite of travelers seeking an adults-only all-inclusive experience. This classic Punta Cana resort features beautifully decorated pools, a great spa, and some of our favorite dining options in the region. All rooms have private outdoor space and most rooms have ocean views. Suites with swim-out access to a moat-like pool are available in the Castle section, and the Terrace Tower Suites have outdoor hot tubs. Decadent Honeymoon Suites have private plunge pools and Castle Island Suites sit on their own private islands accessible by bridge.

8. Haven Riviera Cancun

Haven Riviera Cancun

Situated just south of Cancún, Haven Riviera Cancun has a prime beachfront setting along with all of the perks of all-inclusive living. It also happens to be adults-only and eschews the all-out party vibe found in Cancún’s Hotel Zone (which is just up the coast). All 333 rooms here have private balconies or terraces with either whirlpool tubs or swim-up pool access, and most have views of the ocean and/or the main pool. If you’re looking for something, especially luxe, check out the Serenity Club rooms, where you’ll receive a dedicated beach area and exclusive lounge access. Dining and drinks score rave reviews from previous guests — you’ll find everything from Mediterranean to Asian fusion and buffets.

9. Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, Puerto Morelos

Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, Puerto Morelos

With only 90 suites, the Zoetry Paraiso offers a romantic, wellness-centric boutique experience in the Riviera Maya. The unique layouts of the suites offer different experience options for guests, including Terrace Suites with small bath-side indoor gardens, and Plunge Pool Suites with small personal outdoor pools. The pool area and beach are relaxed with loungers that are prime seating for couples, while dining options further the resort’s wellness theme. You’ll score some pretty amazing extras for free here, including a bottle of tequila, daily bottles of champagne, a one-hour Catamaran sunset sail, three-times-daily maid service, and private chauffeured airport transfers for each room.

10. Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos, Mexico

Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos, Mexico

Like its famous sibling in Cancún , the adult-only Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos feels like a world unto itself. This all-inclusive luxury property offers literally everything you could need for a week of indulgence. Expect chic style, clean lines, and opulent spaces throughout the property.  Rates include gourmet a la carte dining plus premium alcohol, and the food scores high marks from previous guests. The outdoor pool complex is easily one of the region’s prettiest, and the spa offers free hydrotherapy use. Need another reason to book a stay here? The beach and sea views are spectacular. Just keep in mind that while the vistas here are pretty, the ocean is treacherous and not suitable for swimming.

11. TRS Coral Hotel, Playa Mujeres, Mexico

TRS Coral Hotel, Playa Mujeres, Mexico

TRS resorts are all-inclusive vacationing done right. Again, like the best of this list, the property manages to blend just the right amount of buzz with every possible opportunity to relax and unwind. Like its sibling down the coast in Akumal, TRS Yucatan, you’ll find plenty of activities in and around the pool during the day, though you’re just as likely to see couples and friends lazing away the day in the shade sipping tropical drinks and margaritas. Dining at the resort is excellent, with high-end cuisines from Spain, the Mediterranean, and — of course — Mexico all on offer. The presentation is amazing, and the drinks are also inventive (we recommend saving plenty of room for dessert at every meal). A multi-course gastronomic dinner and an impressive song-and-dance show at Chic Cabaret are also included in the rates. Best of all? The beach is a stunner.

12. Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, Mexico

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, Mexico

If you prefer resorts with lots of buzz, entertainment, and a total party vibe, then the name of this resort should say it all. Heaven at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya is exactly that for travelers who like their vacations alongside bumping music, a lively pool scene, and plenty of strong cocktails. The manmade beach here fronts the lagoon in Puerto Aventuras, which is great for snorkeling and sunbathing. This part of the Hard Rock Riviera Maya is for adults only and has four of its own restaurants (though guests have access to those at the main Hard Rock as well). There’s also a nightclub with DJs, plenty of bars, a great spa, and an overall good-time vibe that’s hard to beat.

13. Sandals Royal Plantation, Jamaica

Sandals Royal Plantation, Jamaica

The Sandals Royal Plantation is incredibly intimate for an all-inclusive resort, with just 74 rooms — but has all the features of a much larger property, including a stunning beach and elegant spa. Significantly, there is no mediocre buffet food here — all meals are served a la carte. The 74 rooms have classic colonial style with four-poster beds and private butler service, and some have beautiful sea views. The free airport shuttle is an unexpected extra. Gone are the rowdy crowds many traditionally associate with all-inclusive resorts; the feel here is relaxed and secluded.

14. Galley Bay Resort & Spa, Antigua

Galley Bay Resort & Spa, Antigua

The relaxed, tranquil environment of this adults-only boutique resort is a major part of its appeal — and you won’t find any children under 16. You also shouldn’t expect cutting-edge contemporary style, as this resort is for travelers who really want to unplug and don’t need a ton of frills. What does Galley Bay offer then? A truly gorgeous beach, and all-inclusive food that’s better than average for Antigua. Non-motorized water sports are also included in the rate.

I only book a Disney cruise if it's going to the company's private island, Castaway Cay

  • I've taken eight Disney cruises, and I always book a sailing that stops at  Castaway Cay .
  • Castaway Cay is the company's private island and I love its adults-only beach area.
  • You can buy exclusive merch on the island and see Disney characters in special themed costumes.

Insider Today

Cruise bookings are predicted to reach record highs this year, but not all itineraries are created equally — especially if you're looking to sail with Disney Cruise Line.

Over the past decade, I've taken eight Disney cruises with my family and friends. When I book, I always make sure Disney's private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, is on the port of call.

Here's why you might want to do the same.

I love that the ship docks right at the island, so there are no tender ships involved

One of the biggest perks of Castaway Cay is that the ship docks right at the island.

Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island.

I hate taking tender ships, which can feel like a bit of a time sink, so this is a big bonus to me.

Getting around the island is easy with the complimentary tram

Castaway Cay is about 1,000 acres — though not all of it's developed — so it can take a while to talk to and from the ship to different spots on the island.

Fortunately, the island has a complimentary tram that I always use to get around the island.

The tram takes cruisers from a station near the ship to two other tram stops for the family beaches, and one tram stop at the adults-only beach .

This makes getting around the island with all of my beach gear easy.

Related stories

Speaking of gear, at Castaway Cay, cruisegoers can borrow free towels as soon as they get off of the ship. There are plenty of towel-return stations around the island, so I also never have to carry wet, sandy towels back on the ship.

I always stop to see the Disney characters in their cute beachwear

I enjoy seeing the Disney characters on the ship, but love seeing Mickey and his pals even more at Castaway Cay.

Characters usually meet in the morning from around 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., but exact times can always be found on the Disney Cruise Line app.

The best part about seeing the characters is that the lines to take pictures with them are never long. On a recent sailing, I saw Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto all in 30 minutes. That would never happen in a Disney park.

And if you're a fellow character hunter like me, Mickey and the gang all have Castaway Cay exclusive outfits, which are adorable and make for great family photos.

I always take advantage of every chance to hang out at the adults-only beach

One thing I love about Disney Cruise Line and Castaway Cay is that there are plenty of adults-only spaces where kids are strictly not allowed. On the island, that spot is Serenity Bay Beach.

This peaceful chair-lined beach is a quiet spot away from the family beach, where I can sit back and enjoy the view or take a chair down to the water and let the waves crash over me.

Plus, just off Serenity Bay Beach is a fun beachside bar serving up drinks and snacks.

There's also the adults-only lunch spot where I always enjoy a beachside barbecue. My favorite things on the lunch menu are the ribs and macaroni salad .

Before returning to the ship, I send a postcard from the island and check out the special merchandise

I always make a point to stop in at the various shops near the family beach to see the Castaway Cay merchandise. On a recent trip, the shops had everything from spirit jerseys and T-shirts to Christmas ornaments and swimsuits.

And, before I head back to the ship, I stop at the Castaway Cay post office to send postcards back home.

The postcards I use can be found in the desk drawer of Disney Cruise Line staterooms, and are free to take. If you don't want to send the cute postcards off, you can also keep them as souvenirs.

16 Top Adults-Only Cruises for 2024

I f your idea of getting away from it all includes a vacation without the kids, consider booking an adults-only or adults-oriented cruise . While some lines provide a fully adults-only experience (i.e., children are not allowed on board), others offer adult-focused venues and activities on the ship to keep you separate from younger patrons.

When you're ready to plan your adventure on the high seas, the following cruise lines provide upscale amenities, immersive excursions, sophisticated dining options, lively nighttime entertainment and time for relaxation among like-minded – and similarly aged – travelers.

Top Adults-Only Cruises

Viking ocean cruises.

Travelers 18 and older are welcome aboard Viking 's adults-only ships, which feature destination-focused itineraries around the world. The line's nine oceangoing 930-passenger ships offer luxurious, Scandinavian-style accommodations and comfortable spaces to relax with a book or gaze out at the ocean. Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers interested in history, food or science. Immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a traditional farm near Bergen, Norway, or spend an evening dining on Caribbean Creole cuisine prepared by renowned chefs in a mansion in Cartagena, Colombia.

In addition to these off-the-beaten-path excursions, guests can visit iconic sites like the ancient city of Ephesus (Kuşadasi) in Turkey and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece . Viking also hosts onboard enrichment programs like destination-themed performances, cooking classes and lectures by historians. Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations with a private veranda, all meals (including specialty dining venues), wine and beer at lunch and dinner, one free excursion per port, complimentary Wi-Fi, and access to onboard amenities such as the Nordic Spa.

In addition to its ocean vessels, Viking offers river cruises in destinations around the world – including the U.S. – on the new Viking Mississippi, a ship purpose-built for Mississippi River cruises . The line also has two Polar Class 6 expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, which traverse waterways from Canada to the Caribbean to remote destinations in Antarctica .

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages offers an adults-only retreat for guests ages 18 and older. The line currently has two sister ships: Scarlet Lady – the first in the fleet – and Valiant Lady. The line's third ship, Resilient Lady, is set to debut in May 2023 in Athens. Brilliant Lady, Virgin's fourth vessel, is scheduled to launch by the end of 2023.

All the ships in this adults-only cruise line feature 1,330 cabins (most with balconies) and 78 RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. The superyacht-inspired vessels boast 20-plus eateries, including restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs, and a variety of onboard fitness and wellness spaces. At Redemption Spa, relax and recharge in the mud room or salt therapy chamber. You can even order a bottle of bubbly anywhere on the ship via the Virgin Voyages Sailor app's secret "Shake for Champagne" feature.

Itineraries span destinations in the Caribbean , Europe and trans-Atlantic crossings, as well as Australia, Asia and the Middle East during repositioning cruises. Cruise fares cover meals at all the dining venues; basic beverages such as water, tea and coffee; gratuities for the crew; Wi-Fi; and unlimited fitness classes. While on board, be sure to indulge in a swanky dinner at The Wake and an immersive show at The Red Room, the first multiform theater at sea.

Saga Ocean Cruises

Hop across the pond to sail on U.K.-based Saga Cruises, which specifically caters to guests 50 and older (though travelers may bring a companion as young as 40). Saga's boutique luxury ocean cruise ships carry a maximum of 987 passengers each. The line's two ships, Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure, feature all-balcony cabins and depart from the Dover, Portsmouth and Tilbury cruise ports in England.

The British-inspired sailings are all-inclusive: Fares cover meals at all onboard restaurants as well as access to entertainment venues, Wi-Fi, and unlimited alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Prices also include excursions in certain ports of call, gratuities and chauffeur service from locations in the U.K. to the embarkation port. Guests can enjoy wellness-focused activities on the ship, such as yoga classes, spa treatments and customized fitness programs.

The company offers itineraries in Europe, the Caribbean, the U.S. and Canada , in addition to Greenland, Iceland, the Canary Islands and West Africa. On Spirit of Adventure, Saga's newest ship, passengers can spend evenings indulging in Italian cuisine at Amalfi, sampling Nepalese dishes at Khukuri House, or settling in for drinks and dinner at the Supper Club, which features jazz music and cabaret-style entertainment.

P&O Cruises

Two ships in P&O Cruises' U.K.-based fleet – Arcadia and Aurora – are exclusively for adults 18 and older. Arcadia, the slightly newer of the two ships since it debuted in 2005, carries 2,094 guests and 866 crew. The ship departs from Southampton in the U.K. and sails to the Canary Islands , Spain and Portugal; the British Isles; Norway and Iceland; and the U.S., Caribbean and Canada.

Arcadia's five restaurants and 10 bars and cafes include Indian offerings with a British twist at Sindhu as well as steaks and seafood by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White at Ocean Grill. Passengers can sip Champagne at Intermezzo, the ship's cocktail and Champagne venue, or enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif at the yacht-inspired Spinnaker. After exploring exciting ports of call, head back on board to enjoy Arcadia's elegant interiors and top-notch service. You can splurge on a stone therapy treatment at the Oasis Spa for some extra pampering, followed by a live show at the three-tiered theater, The Palladium. Then, finish off the evening dancing the night away at The Globe.

Aurora is a slightly more intimate ship, carrying 1,874 passengers and 850 crew members. A four-level atrium gallery sits at the heart of Aurora. Itineraries include destinations in the Mediterranean, the Baltic region, Spain and Portugal, and the U.S. and Canada, plus a world cruise. There are seven dining venues as well as 11 bars and cafes on the ship. Dine at the same time every evening at club-style restaurant Alexandria, or opt for a more flexible schedule at The Beach House or Medina. Cruisers can also sit down for a tasty meal at The Glass House, which serves casual bites paired with wines from around the world. After dinner, live entertainment and dancing await you at the show lounge Carmen's, as do larger productions at the ritzy 652-seat Curzon Theatre.

Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While many all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port not found on many other itineraries, including wine and culture itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a voyage to the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2023 and 2024, or a 12-night round-trip cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2023 and 2024 with itineraries in destinations like various European countries, South Africa, Australia and Japan.

On board you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C or, if you prefer, Italian fare at Aqualina. First offered on Azamara Onward (the newest ship) before being expanded to the whole fleet, Atlas Bar serves innovative craft cocktails like the London Fog Martini or Tuscan Delight. Discoveries Lounge is another guest favorite for mingling with fellow cruisers at the end of the day. Wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner in the evenings.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; and nonalcoholic beverages like bottled water, specialty coffees and tea. You'll also get access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. Additional amenities like a complimentary internet package, free specialty dining, butler service and other perks come with suite accommodations.

Scenic Eclipse, touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht," offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (with 172 crew). The ship's Polar Class 6 rating enables it to sail to destinations like Antarctica. On these expedition-style voyages, the ship will carry only 200 guests and a total of 192 crew. All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; Egyptian cotton linens; and an in-suite minibar stocked with Champagne, wine and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and Scenic Neptune, an underwater submarine.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including fine dining at Lumière. This elegant French restaurant seats just 35 guests and features a multicourse degustation menu and a Champagne bar. For a less formal option, check out the Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern specialties – and the intimate teppanyaki grill experience – at Night Market @ Koko's. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample one (or several) of 100-plus whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include taking a culinary class at Scenic Épicure, getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa, or just relaxing with spectacular sea views and Champagne on deck 10 at the Panorama Bar.

The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, set sail on its inaugural voyage from Lisbon, Portugal , in mid-April 2023. The new ship is 550 feet in length and nearly identical to its sister ship, Scenic Eclipse. One addition to the vessel is the new Sky Deck. This space boasts 270-degree views, a bar with indoor and outdoor seating, and six private cabanas. What's more, the oval-shaped Sky Deck pool is the perfect place to kick back – and it's the place to be during the sail-away deck party, especially as the sun sets over the ocean.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

This cruise line has five luxury vessels in its fleet – with the sixth ship, Seven Seas Grandeur, set to launch in November 2023. The all-inclusive fares on Regent Seven Seas Cruises include perks like round-trip business class or coach airfare (depending on the destination); complimentary pre-cruise hotel stays; two- or three-night land packages; all meals and beverages; free shore excursions; and more. Seven Seas Splendor , christened in February 2020, is the line's newest vessel at sea. This elegant ship boasts 373 luxurious all-balcony suites and a ratio of 548 crew members to just 746 guests.

In the evenings, diners can choose between French cuisine at Chartreuse; creative Asian fare at Pacific Rim; aged steaks at Prime 7; Italian dishes at Sette Mari at La Veranda; or design-your-own-entree options at Compass Rose. For a casual evening, plan to dine alfresco at the Pool Grill. Adults can also enjoy pre-dinner cocktails in one of the lounges and nightly entertainment at the Constellation Theater. For a nightcap, sip a fine cognac in one of the ship's favorite hideaways, Connoisseur Club. There are also plenty of options for exercise, fitness and relaxation at Serene Spa & Wellness.

If you're planning a once-in-a-lifetime adventure on the high seas, consider booking the Regent Suite. Situated on deck 14 – and boasting more than 4,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space – this luxurious accommodation features one of the largest balconies at sea with a Treesse minipool, in addition to two bedrooms and a private in-suite spa. Cruise fare for the suite also includes a long list of high-end amenities such as access to a private dining room called The Study, a personal car and driver in port, free in-suite spa services, a private butler, and more.

Silversea Cruises

Silversea's all-inclusive luxury ocean and expedition cruises offer voyages to more than 900 destinations across the seven continents. The line's 10 ultra-luxury ships and expedition vessels range in size from 51 to 364 suites and boast spacious ocean view accommodations – most with private verandas. Cruise fares cover door-to-door transfers from home to the ship, including airfare (business class in some destinations) and pre- and post-cruise hotel stays. On board, guests will have butler service, a nearly one-to-one ratio of guests to staff, 24-hour gourmet dining, premium alcoholic beverages, one complimentary shore excursion in each port, gratuities and more.

Silversea 's newest ship, Silver Nova, is set to debut in summer 2023. The luxury flagship of the line boasts an even more upscale guest experience in the suites with butler service for every accommodation, an impressive crew-to-guest ratio, more open spaces and top-notch cuisine. Silver Nova is also the first vessel in the fleet to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is billed as a more sustainable cruise ship. Silver Nova will begin sailing in the Mediterranean before repositioning to the Caribbean and South America for the winter.

The second-newest ship in the fleet, Silver Endeavour, was regarded as one of the most luxurious expedition ships at sea when it launched in July 2022. With its Polar Class 6 rating, the ship visits the far ends of the Earth in the remote polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic.

Endeavour's features include state-of-the-art technology for navigation and exploration – and what Silversea bills as industry-leading ratios of Zodiac boats and experts to guests. Passengers also enjoy luxurious amenities among the ship's eight public decks, from the various dining and drinking venues to a two-story solarium with a swimming pool and whirlpool tub; cruisers can also take advantage of indoor and outdoor observation areas and a spa. You'll receive Silversea's high level of service with just 200 guests and 200 crew, providing an immersive and personalized experience aboard.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Seabourn also features an all-inclusive adult-focused experience on its five luxury ocean vessels and two expedition ships. The line's newest ship, Seabourn Venture, is an ultra-luxury Polar Class 6 purpose-built vessel with 132 ocean-front veranda suites. Seabourn Pursuit, the second expedition vessel, is scheduled to debut in fall 2023. The ships are equipped with two submarines for underwater exploration, kayaks and 24 Zodiacs. They will also each have a 24-person expedition team to explore far-reaching destinations like Antarctica, the Arctic and the Kimberley region of Australia, as well as places closer to home such as Iceland, South America and the British Isles.

Seabourn Ovation , the line's newest luxury cruise ship, accommodates up to 600 guests and offers amenities found on most of Seabourn 's ships: well-appointed oceanfront suites, living areas with dining tables, verandas, a nearly one-to-one staff-to-guest ratio and a Personal Suite Host to cater to your every need. World-class dining options are in partnership with renowned chef Thomas Keller, such as The Grill, Seabourn's signature restaurant. You'll also find health and wellness programs curated by Dr. Andrew Weil.

The "Seabourn Conversations" program is another highlight, where accomplished experts host adventures ashore, participate in meals and chat with guests on board the ship. For a special treat during your cruise, don't miss "Caviar in the Surf" beach party. This event in select destinations includes chilled Champagne, caviar, music and a barbecue set against the backdrop of white sand beaches and turquoise waters in beautiful locales around the world.

Windstar Cruises

Windstar's six intimate ships offer two styles of yachting that accommodate between 148 and 342 guests. Passengers can choose between cruising on one of the line's three masted Wind Class vessels or one of its three Star Plus Class ships. Windstar's adult-focused and casual – but still elegant – onboard experiences feature locally inspired top-notch dining (in partnership with the James Beard Foundation), guest lecturers, a water sports platform on all the ships, an open bridge policy and an engaging social environment.

If you're looking for a romantic getaway , Windstar is also regarded as one of the most romantic cruise lines for a wedding, honeymoon , vow renewal or anniversary trip, especially in magical destinations like the South Pacific, Cinque Terre along Italy's Ligurian coast and Monte Carlo in Monaco . Windstar's smaller ships can reach small ports, coves, harbors and villages not accessible by larger vessels. They also offer more than 2,000 immersive cultural experiences in port, many with small groups. You'll find late evenings and overnights in the ports of call where you can experience the local culture and cuisine after dark.

New itineraries for 2023 and 2024 include Australia and New Zealand sailings as well as intensive voyages to the Holy Lands that explore Arabia and the Red Sea. You can also travel to the Central American coast or book a 10-day sailing from Copenhagen to Amsterdam. If the Middle East is on your must-see list, the 10-day Sparkling Sands & Cities of the Persian Gulf itinerary checks all the boxes with stops in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and other ports of call.

Other Top Adults-Only Cruise Options

While these larger ships are kid-friendly – and offer activities for families and children of all ages – adults can also find hidden retreats and dining and bar venues just for grown-ups. These spaces are typically quieter and away from the crowds. If you're traveling with (or without) children on one of these lines, you'll want to know the adults-only venues to plan your afternoon or evening out – sans kids.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises offers spaces created with adults in mind. On Celebrity Beyond and the new Celebrity Ascent (debuting in December 2023), guests can have a unique adults-only dining experience at Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud. The world-renowned Global Culinary Ambassador for the line, Daniel Boulud, created the menu at this elegant venue, incorporating dishes inspired by his travels. You'll also find an impressive wine list to accompany your dining experience at the restaurant.

When it's time to relax, The Solarium is a popular adults-only area that's found on the Resort Deck of all Celebrity ships, including Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Apex . This light-filled pool area encased by a glass dome is the perfect quiet space for reading a book or taking a nap. While there, you can also grab a light breakfast or lunch at the Spa Cafe and Juice Bar – or order your favorite adult beverage while lounging in the hot tub.

Other adult-focused venues to check out on Celebrity Beyond and Apex and are the new elevated bar spaces. The Edge series World Class Bar – a popular spot on other Celebrity ships – features craft cocktails in a beautiful setting. And don't miss the two-story Sunset Bar on Celebrity Beyond, reimagined by interior designer and TV personality Nate Berkus. The aft location of the bar offers almost twice the space as previous iterations – plus beautiful wake views.

Princess Cruises

The Sanctuary, an adults-only retreat (for ages 18 and older), offers cruisers an escape from bustling public spaces on your ship. The relaxing top-deck venue is available on all Princess Cruises ships and features plush lounge chairs, a spa-like setting and Serenity Stewards, who serve light bites, spa cuisine and other refreshments. To fully unwind, consider reserving a private cabana, where you can book an open-air massage. The child-free venue varies from ship to ship. On six ships – Sky Princess , Majestic Princess , Regal Princess , Royal Princess , Enchanted Princess and Discovery Princess – adults can also enjoy an exclusive Retreat pool, cabanas and bar area. On the newer vessels – Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess – The Sanctuary also offers an expanded space with more cabanas.

If you're heading off the ship for an excursion to Princess Cays (the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas), plan to chill out for the day in an adults-only Sanctuary Bungalow. Located just minutes from the ocean and beach, the rentals accommodate four people, and the price includes two complimentary float rentals. You can also order a gourmet picnic to enjoy while lounging on shore.

Back on the ship, adults can reserve a spot for the line's new Winemaker Dinners in partnership with Napa Valley's Caymus Vineyards. These special evenings are offered fleetwide, two to three times during each cruise, for just 12 guests in the Crown Grill specialty restaurant. Winemaker Chuck Wagner personally selected the wines from the notable Napa Valley winery to pair with the elevated five-course menu.

Carnival Cruise Line

Located on all of Carnival Cruise Line 's cruise ships , Serenity Adult-Only Retreat is a tranquil oasis hidden away from bustling venues and family-friendly areas. Access to the space is complimentary for passengers 21 and older; while there, guests can enjoy relaxing loungers, daybeds and whirlpools. Take in the warm sun and ocean breeze with a signature sangria in hand, or stop for a healthy meal at Fresh Creations Salad outlet (available on select ships) for an alfresco lunch. Passengers can make the most of some alone time with a quick nap and a good book – or simply kick back and relax before heading back into the high-energy environment elsewhere on the ship.

Disney Cruise Line

Though Disney Cruise Line tends to attract families and younger travelers, it also offers multiple spaces and activities for adults 18 and older. Disney's newest ship, Disney Wish , even boasts several adults-only luxurious venues featuring characters and scenes from "Beauty and the Beast."

For top-notch steaks, contemporary Italian cuisine and panoramic ocean views, make a reservation at the Cogsworth-inspired Palo Steakhouse. If you prefer French-style fare and world-class wines served in an elegant and shimmering setting (think Lumiere), Enchanté by three-Michelin-starred chef Arnaud Lallement is the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two. Before dinner at either venue, enjoy a signature cocktail at The Rose. After dinner, you won't want to miss the galactic libations and ever-changing views of faraway galaxies at the adults-only Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge bar.

Depending on the ship, adult travelers can also dance the night away in a trendy club, watch live entertainment or a cabaret show, catch a sports game on satellite TV, or relax with an after-dinner cocktail at a bar or lounge. Outdoors, Quiet Cove Pool is a tranquil place to relax on all the ships. For even more pampering, Senses Spa & Salon boasts treatment rooms with ocean views, luxurious spa villas and other amenities. On Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line 's private island, adults can head to Serenity Bay – a scenic, adults-only stretch of the beach.

On Norwegian 's Bliss , Joy , Escape , Getaway and Breakaway ships, the Vibe Beach Club sun deck invites guests to relax in oversized hot tubs and enjoy perks like a full-service bar and chilled towels. On Norwegian Prima and soon-to-launch Norwegian Viva, an elevated beach club experience includes the line's first infinity hot tubs. You can purchase a multiday pass in advance for Vibe Beach Club, and cabana rentals are available for more privacy.

At Norwegian Epic 's Posh Beach Club, complimentary perks include fruit skewers, cold water spritzers and a snack menu. Single- or multiday passes are available to all adult cruisers, while travelers who book a Haven suite can access Posh Beach Club for free. Spice H2O is another adults-only venue on the Norwegian Bliss, Joy, Escape, Getaway, Breakaway, Epic, Star and Spirit vessels; access is complimentary.
