Importance of regularly checking Dubai Visa status

After you've submitted your Dubai Visa application, you'll want to keep an eye on its progress as you make your travel plans. When checking your visa status, you may come across certain codes that indicate the current status of your application. To help you understand these codes, here's a brief rundown:

RECEIVED: Your application has been received and is now undergoing initial assessment by the relevant authorities.

UNDER PROCESSING: At this point, your application is under review. Officials are examining your documents, conducting background checks, and reaching a decision.

ISSUED: This status confirms that your visa to Dubai has been approved. You can now move forward with your travel preparations.

REJECTED: This indicates that your application wasn't successful. The exact reasons for denial may be provided in a separate notice.

For visa holders, it remains essential to regularly check your Dubai visa status. Here's why:

To stay informed about the active duration of your visa.

To anticipate when you'll need to renew or extend your visa.

To prevent potential issues, such as overstaying, which could result in penalties.

Required documents for your Dubai Visa check

The main document you'll need for your Dubai Visa check is the passport you used for your visa application . To check your UAE visa status online, you will need to provide your passport number and passport expiry date and indicate your nationality (more on this later).

Depending on the website or platform you use to check the status of your visa, you may also need to provide your visa application reference number and other personal details, such as your full name and date of birth.

Using online portals for visa status verification

The UAE government has two main portals that you can use to verify the status of your visa:

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) website .

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai website .

How to perform a Dubai Visa check using your passport number

Step 1: Visit the ICP website.

Step 2: Select “Passport Information” and choose “Visa” as the type.

Step 3: Enter your passport number, passport expiry date, and nationality.

Step 4: Complete the human verification prompt.

Step 5: Click on the “Search” button.

How to perform a Dubai Visa check using your visa application number

Step 1: Visit the GDRFAD website.

Step 2: Click on the “File” option.

Step 3: Enter your first name, file number (your visa application number), nationality, and date of birth.

Alternative ways to check your UAE Visa status

Phone: You can call the ICP customer service center at +97124955555.

Email: You can email your inquiries to [email protected] .

Online inquiry form: You can submit your inquiries through the online inquiry form on the ICP website.

Visit the ICP office: If you are in the UAE, you can visit the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs offices or the ICP Customer Happiness Centres.

Dealing with visa expiry, renewals, and overstays

It's important to keep track of your visa status so that you can renew it or leave the UAE before it expires. Staying beyond its expiry is considered as overstaying, leading to complications.

What can happen if you overstay your visa?

Fines: In the UAE, if you overstay your visa, you'll be charged AED 50 for each day. Continuous violations can lead to even higher charges.

Deportation: If your visa is over 60 days overdue, the authorities could deport you. This would mean you'd have to leave the UAE, and you might not be allowed back in for a while.

Travel ban: Being deported for visa issues can land you on a travel blacklist. This could keep you from returning to the UAE, even if you have a valid visa later on.

Criminal charges: Overstaying isn't just a simple matter; it can be considered breaking the law. If found guilty, you might face time in jail, additional fines, or both.

What to do after your UAE visa expires

If your visa expires while you're in the UAE, it's essential to act quickly.

The first step should be to try to extend or renew your visa. This is the most direct way to legally extend your stay. You can apply for an extension or renewal through the ICP website.

But, if extending or renewing isn't an option, you might have to exit the UAE and then apply for a new visa. In this case, you should contact the embassy or consulate of your home country for assistance.

For a smooth UAE visa application experience—and to get it done in less than 30 minutes—we recommend using our platform. Start your UAE Visa application with iVisa .

Renewing your UAE Visa

Renewing a visa in the UAE isn't a one-size-fits-all procedure. The process to follow depends on your visa type and the reason you're extending it. Generally, you'd need to fill out an application, attach the required documents, pay any fees, and then wait for a decision on your application.

For most visit and tourist visas, a 30-day renewal is possible once the immigration authorities have given their approval . And before this renewal period runs out, there's an option for a second renewal. However, those on a 90-day visit visa should note that they can only get a single 30-day extension .

According to the ICP, resident visas that last more than six months can't be renewed at the moment. But after the visa expires or is canceled, expats get a 6-month period to either get a new residence visa or leave the UAE. Plus, there are no fines during these 6 months .

Everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai

It’s fairly easy….

Thinking of visiting Dubai, but you’re not sure how to get a tourist visa? Perhaps you already live in this gorgeous city and want to share it with family and friends, but aren’t sure how to go about securing the ever-important visa. For some it’s as easy as showing up at the airport, for others, there is a process that needs to be followed.

Here is everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai.

No visa required

Citizens of the GCC areas do not require any sort of visa to enter Dubai. You simply need to provide your passport or your national ID at the point of entry and you will be granted entrance.

Visa on arrival

If you fall into this category, you’re in luck because there are certain countries that can simply arrive at Dubai International Airport and receive a tourist visa, on arrival.

There are a total of 50 countries that receive visas on arrival. Some include The United Kingdom (UK), The United States of America (USA), and countries that are part of the EU. For some countries you will be eligible for a 30-day visa, and for others a 90-day visa, with the possibility of extension.

Indian citizens who are holders of tourist visas from the USA, green cards, or have a residence visa in the UK or EU will also receive a visa on arrival, for 14 days, provided that the green card and residence visas have been valid for more than six months.

If you are a Mexican passport holder, you will be granted a multiple-entry visa on arrival. Your visa is valid for up to 180 days and is valid for six months from the date that the visa has been issued.

The list of countries that are able to attain a tourist visa on arrival in Dubai or the UAE may change from time to time and so you can easily see if you are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival by following the steps here .

Pre-arranged visa

When you do not fall under the above categories that means you need to apply for a tourist visa before you enter Dubai. This can be done in a number of ways.

You can easily apply directly through certain airlines including FlyDubai and Emirates . Alternatively, you can organise a tourist visa through licensed travel agents, tour operators and the hotel you will be staying at.

It is important to note that you cannot apply for a tourist visa through the UAE Embassy, one of the organisers mentioned above will apply for your visa on your behalf through the visa-issuing authorities here in Dubai.

UAE: Travelling to the US soon? Here's how to submit your US visa documents via Emirates Post

Living in uae.

Find out the Emirates Post drop-off and pick-up locations for your US Visit Visa

STOCK US VISA

Dubai: Planning a trip to the US? If you are applying for a visit visa from the UAE, you can submit your documents and pick up your passport once the visa is processed, through Emirates Post, which handles courier services for US visa applications from the UAE.

So, whether you are just starting your application or waiting to collect your visa, this guide will walk you through the steps you need to follow.

When do I need to use Emirates Post for document submission?

The method in which you submit your documents varies depending on the type of visa you are applying for: • If your visa requires an in-person interview at the Consular Section, bring all the necessary documents with you. • If no interview is needed , you will receive instructions on how to courier your documents to the Consular Section. That is when you will need to visit the Emirates Post Customer Happiness Centre. You will also need an ‘Courier-In Authorisation Certificate’, which allows an applicant to send documents using the courier, free of charge, to the Consular Section.

How to get the ‘Courier-In Authorisation Certificate’

You first need to apply for a ‘Courier-In Authorisation Certificate’ through the US visa portal - ais.usvisa-info.com. Here’s how: 1. Go to the sign-in option located on the top-right corner of the website, and login with your existing account for the US visa portal. 2. Select the option – ‘Consular Section instructed me to send more documents’. 3. Select applicants for whom you are intending to send documents or passports. Write reason to send documents or passport and click ‘Send Request’ 4. Then, click on ‘Continue’ and select ‘Send Documents’. 5. Select the Consular section where you are intending to submit documents or passports as mentioned in DS-160 form (the non-immigrant visa form) and click ‘Submit’. 6. Scroll down the page and click on ‘View Courier-in Receipt’.

Once this process is complete, take a printout of the authorisation. You will need to submit this along with the passports or the required documents by visiting one of the Emirates post drop-off and pick-up locations.

How do I collect my passport and US visa documents?

Depending on whether you are collecting your own passport, or someone else is collecting it on your behalf, there are certain IDs that need to be presented.

Applicants retrieving their personal documents must provide: • Official or State issued identification card (with photo). • Official driver’s licence (with photo). • Birth certificate.

Parents retrieving documents for their children must provide: • A copy of the child’s birth certificate or adoption decree, with at least one of the parent’s full legal name displayed on the document. • The parent must prove their identity by presenting the State issued ID card with a matching name on the child’s birth certificate or adoption decree.

If you have authorised a third-party to collect your passport, they need to present the following documents: • A letter of authorisation signed by you that contains the third party’s full legal name. • A photo copy of one of your IDs (State issued ID card). • The third party must also identify themselves with a State issued ID card. The name on the identification must match the name on the authorisation letter.

Any passports not retrieved within 30 days will be returned to the originating Consular Section.
