It is an important city in India's history being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. According to mythology, the coastal city is also believed to be the birthplace of Sudama, Lord Krishna's friend and devotee. Traces of late Harappan civilization have also been found here and hence the place becomes of prime importance throwing light on the maritime activities of that time. In ancient times Porbandar was known to be Pao Bandar, due to its bread factories that used to export Pao roti to Arab countries across the Arabian Sea. Colloquial changes in language result in a name change to Pore Bandar or Porbandar. Earlier, Porbandar belonged to the Jethwa clan of Rajputs and it was a state under the Mughal Governor of Gujarat. Later it came under the rule of the Gaekwads and the Peshwas. Porbandar became the eponymous princely state in British India. Under the Mughals, Peshwas, and the British, Porbandar was an active business center with ships sailing to countries like East Africa, Arab, and the Persian Gulf. After India's independence in 1947, the state was merged with the 'United State of Kathiawar', and eventually became part of Gujarat. The last King of Porbandar was Natwarsinhji Bhavsinhji Maharaj. The city of Porbandar is dotted with numerous religious places and historical buildings which stand as a reminder of the glorious bygone era. The uniqueness of Porbandar city is that it is constructed of a special type of white soft stone hence it is popularly known as 'White City'. The most fascinating feature of Porbandar tour packages is the haveli where Gandhiji was born which has now been converted into a temple called Kirti Mandir. The people of Porbandar celebrate the festivals of Navratri, Holi, and Dussehra with great pomp and fervor. The Porbandar Mela is the biggest fair and a major event held every year in Porbandar. It falls around the months of August-September and attracts a large crowd. Like most of Gujarat, Porbandar has a hot semi-arid climate with hot summers, rainy monsoons, and chilly winters. However, October - March is the best time to visit Porbandar when the climate is cool and pleasant that is suitable for sightseeing. Better to avoid the monsoon season as the city faces heavy rains, strong winds, and occasional thunderstorms.

Water main break disrupts businesses, tourist spots in downtown Atlanta, other areas

Atlanta officials say a water main break has interrupted water service and led to low water pressure in the city’s downtown and other parts of Georgia’s capital

ATLANTA -- A water main break has interrupted water service and led to low water pressure in the city's downtown and other parts of Georgia's capital.

Crews on Friday were “working aggressively” to make emergency repairs to the 32-inch water main, the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management said in a statement.

“Water service has been temporarily interrupted, affecting residents, businesses, and hydrants in the area,” the agency said.

The Department of Watershed Management issued a boil water advisory for a large swath of metro Atlanta and asked the public to restrict water usage to allow the pressure in the system to rebuild, WXIA-TV reported. During a boil water advisory, water should be boiled for one minute past a rolling boil. The advisory is in effect until the Georgia Environmental Protection Division clears the Department of Watershed Management to lift it following sampling and testing.

Some Atlanta and Fulton County offices closed because of the issue, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Tourist attractions were also affected, including the Georgia Aquarium, which ended operations early, the newspaper reported.

Zoo Atlanta closed early, at 1 p.m. Friday, because of the water pressure issues, the zoo announced. The zoo, southeast of the downtown area, “has contingency plans in place to ensure that the animals have access to water,” it said in a statement.

Morning Bid: China PMIs, Tokyo CPI Eyed; Month-End Mood Dims

(Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets.

An Asian economic calendar on Friday overflowing with top-tier indicators awaits investors, who look set to close out the week and the month on a downbeat note as worries grow over the strength of the U.S. and global economies.

Investors often cheer 'bad news' on the U.S. economy by bidding up risk assets on the view that the Fed will be forced to ease policy. Equally, 'good news' often drags stocks and bonds lower because rates may have to stay higher for longer.

Investors' reaction to revised U.S. GDP figures on Thursday followed neither play book - bad news was bad news. Slower GDP growth in Q1 pushed stocks, the dollar and bond yields lower, and relatively dovish comments from New York Fed president John Williams failed to provide much comfort.

The MSCI World, MSCI Asia ex-Japan, MSCI emerging market and Japan's Nikkei 225 indexes are all poised for their second weekly loss in a row. Rising bond yields, and now U.S. growth concerns, are taking their toll.

And could the U.S. tech fairy tale be starting to fade too?

Financial conditions certainly seem to be biting. According to Goldman Sachs, emerging market, Chinese and global financial conditions are the tightest in a month. Little wonder, perhaps, that investors are taking some chips off the table as the month end approaches.

It may be month-end on Friday, but there will be no rest for Asian markets. Not if the economic calendar is anything to go by.

China's official purchasing managers' index reports for May, a raft of top-tier indicators from Japan including retail sales, industrial production and Tokyo inflation, and first quarter GDP from India and Taiwan are all on tap.

China's PMIs are expected to show that manufacturing activity in May grew at a similar pace to the previous month when it barely managed to stay expansionary, reinforcing the fragile nature of the recovery in the world's No.2 economy.

China's economy blew past expectations to post growth of 5.3% in the first quarter, and a string of April indicators including factory output, trade and consumer prices suggest it has successfully navigated some near-term downside risks.

But the crisis-hit property sector remains a major drag, deflationary pressures persist, and capital is just as liable to be flowing out of the country than in.

Core inflation in Japan's capital, meanwhile, is expected to have picked up in May to 1.9% from a two-year low of 1.6% in April, and India's economy likely grew at a 6.5% rate in the January-March quarter - its slowest pace in a year - due to weak demand.

Here are key developments that could provide more direction to markets on Friday:

- China official PMIs (May)

- Tokyo inflation (May)

- India GDP (Q1)
