HOVER MOUSE TO PAUSE

Four trips - all outstanding

"I've now done four hunting trips with Andrew and all have been outstanding. Three of them were with my teenage sons for their 1st hunts so safety was absolutely paramount. For the 1st timers, he will take you to the rifle range for a familiarity and safety lesson and fire a few shots at targets.

Andrew has access to a few private wilderness blocks where no one else will be hunting. These blocks have ridiculous amounts of Red and Fallow deer and we have always seen deer inside 30 minutes. Sneaking up on them will have your heart pounding out of your chest and you may spook the odd one, but that won't matter as you go over the next ridge and you'll be onto another in no time.

The last 2-day hunt we shot 5 deer( for 5 bullets, all meat animals but we have seen some awesome 12 and 14 point Stags in there too. Andrew field dresses them for you and at the end of the hunt organises the butchering as well. I can't recommend him enough."

OUR PREFERRED  PRIVATE & PUBLIC HUNTING AREAS

Total_Safari_LOGO_SECONDARY_BW_REV-remov

Single and multi-day hunting trips throughout New Zealand

Hunting in New Zealand typically falls into one of three categories: public land free range, private land free range, or safari park "fair chase" trophy hunting.

At Total Safari NZ, we predominantly focus on the first two types, but of late we now also have access to one of New Zealand's premier trophy hunting properties located in the beautiful Central North Island high country.

We are focused on providing hunts with ethical hunting practices, where a "hunt" is exactly that, animals have a fair chance of escape and the hunter's skills are put to the test. Hunting for kai (food) and enjoying the stunning locations is always our primary objective for our clients, but we also understand the thrill of chasing a large stag or boar for the ultimate  souvenir.

Our strike rate for our customers is second to none and we put that down to experience, perseverance and a range of amazing hunting locations. Our single and multi-day hunting experiences throughout New Zealand target Red, Fallow and Sika deer and we also hunt wild boar, wild goats, and a range of small game and gamebirds (in season).

Our hunting packages can be, altered, combined or fully tailored to suit you or your groups goals, timeframe and budget. So get in touch with us to start planning your hunting adventure today!

WILD BOAR “PIG HUNT”

Cost: $750 Per day (up to 4 people)

Available: March - November

Hunt type: Public and Private land free range, Forestry.

Location: Wairarapa, Central North Island.

We believe the Southern Hemisphere wild boar is possibly the most challenging animal to hunt in New Zealand.

They are a real test of a hunter's skill and toughness. Not everyone is able to get in and “mix it” in the scrub with one of these beasts! At Total Safari NZ, we hunt pigs mostly up close and personal with dogs and knives.

A day of genuine kiwi, free range hunting for hogs, is the aim of the game here. We use a trained pack of specialist dogs and we probe remote locations to try and outwit one of these exceptional animals on their home turf.

The thrill of the chase and unpredictability of the hunt is one of the best and most addictive parts of pig hunting in New Zealand.

Price includes:

A day's Pig hunting (up to 4 people).

Accommodation and meals if more than one day.

Expert hunting guides and dogs.

Any hunting equipment required.

Field dressing of animals for butchery.

Outstanding! Matt was an excellent guide with very in depth knowledge of the area and hunting in general. He was very professional and an excellent teacher when it came to showing a few of the lesser experienced lads how to stalk, dispatch and gut our kills.

Me and the boys can't stop talking about how much we enjoyed our trip and can't wait to start planning another one with the guys from Total Safaris NZ.

Our Exclusive Hunting Locations

We have exclusive access to thousands of acres of stunning native bush hunting. Your idyllic hunting grounds are set across 2-3 locations at the southern end of Lake Taupō. These various hunting grounds have good representative free range stags roaming the property and trophy stags upward of 300+ SCI within our fair chase environment.

The terrain and hunting conditions are varied with large native podocarp forests, scrub lands (reverted pasture) and open grass pastures which make for a perfect landscape for both the deer and the hunter. Access around the property is on well-formed 4 x 4 tracks but a reasonable amount of fitness will certainly improve your chances. The sheer isolation brings an added edge to this wilderness escape.

When to Visit for Deer Hunting in NZ

The best time of year for deer hunting in NZ is early spring, when the deer shed their winter coats and the days are starting to get longer.

There are also a few other factors that can make deer hunting in NZ even more enjoyable, such as the fact that the deer are more active during this time of year and they are also easier to spot as they move around in search of food.

So if you’re looking for a great opportunity to deer hunt, make sure to book your guided hunt in early spring.

Take in the scenic vistas of the central North Island while stalking your prey. Finish the day off at basecamp, beer in hand!

Our hunting and fishing guided tours have helicopter options to them, with our hunting grounds being either a 90 minute drive or a 25 minute flight from Taupo CBD.

There’s a list! Although we provide all firearms, food and transport to and from the hunting ground (on our one day tours). We do not provide a firearms licence. By NZ law, visiting hunters bringing their own firearms must obtain a firearms tourist licence from the NZ police at the International airport on their arrival. Tui, Fantail and wax eyes are amongst the beautiful birdsong that serenades lake Taupō’s verdant native bush.

Taupo can get to -1 or 2 degrees celsius in Wintertime, with icy winds coming straight off the central plateau mountains. It is best to pack woolly layers and definitely a wind/waterproof jacket.

No, Taupō, and New Zealand, in general does not have any native or imported predators. There are very small poisonous spiders called the whitetail and katipo, but a quick GP visit and some antibiotics after a bite and you’ll be right as rain.

Conditions are changeable in Taupō, so it’s best to be prepared! The locals joke that Taupō can have four seasons in a day!

North & South Island Wildside Hunting Safaris

Hunt description, north island wildside hunting safaris.

Within a short walking distance of Wildside’s homestead is some the North Island’s most outstanding trophy hunting ever to be experienced.

On Wildside’s exclusive hunting properties you will find, roaming in their natural heards and habitat:

Huge Red Stags;

Sika Stags;

Rusa Stags;

Fallow Bucks.

A habitat that is perfectly suited for the thrilling “spot and stalk” hunting for which Wildside Hunting Safaris is world renown.

Not only for some of New Zealand’s finest Red Stags and Fallow Bucks but also for trophy species found ONLY on the North Island like the seriously intelligent Sika Stag and the secretive Sambar and Rusa Stags.

North Island hunting is typically conducted on easy rolling to hilly bush country where “up close encounters” are experienced by the “spot and stalk” method of hunting. Usually offering at least one shot opportunity per day (for the bow or rifle) and is ideally for the hunter who wants to have the “thrill of the stalk” as well as taking the trophy of a lifetime.

South Island Wildside Hunting Safaris

Wildside’s South Island properties are mainly on the Eastern side of the main divide where the foothills are less steep and more manageable for foot hunting Tahr.

Along with over 1M acres of public land with exceptional numbers, on the South Island we offer hunts for:

Wildside Hunting Safaris can take you on the hunt of a lifetime for all New Zealand’s trophy animals.

Wildside’s properties are often equipped for “still hunting” with treestands, platforms and ground blinds where wild game can be observed for most of the day.

What ever your ambition or abilities are the professional team at Wildside Hunting Safaris can help make your hunting dreams become reality.

The hunting season gets underway in March and goes right through until August when the stags begin shedding their antlers.

The rut period for the Red, Fallow and Sika is in our autumn (fall) with the Red Stags starting first in early March and then the Fallow and Sika follow at late March early April. Peak of the rut is around the first to second weeks of April when the “Roar” is at fever pitch.

All three species are very vocal and often respond to imitation roars. For the Sambar and Rusa their rut is around July-August and make for a very interesting midwinter hunt. On the South Island the Tahr and Chamois rut is from May to July with the Tahr being one of the spectacular animals to hunt in New Zealand. Wildside has over 100,000 acres of freerange private land hunting for tahr that is well populated with large mobs that boast some great bulls.

Red Stag hunts start from $5,500 (each hunter) for two hunters with one guide. This includes 4 days guiding, accommodation/food and beverages and a stag up to 350SCI” for each hunter, also transport to and from the nearest airport. Up grades on stags are totally possible and will be priced according to Wildside’s list price (supplied on request) , also extra days can be added at an extra cost.

Other species that are available are as follows including time of year to hunt them:

Fallow (February to September) ,

Sika (February to September) ,

Sambar (June to October),

Rusa (June to October) ,

Elk (February to September) ,

Tahr (all year round but best from May to September) ,

Chamois (all year round but best from May to September)

Tahr hunts start from $5,500 (each hunter) for two hunters with one guide. This includes 3 days guiding, a bull tahr for each hunter (best we can find) , accommodation/food and beverages also transport from the nearest airport.

Bowhunting can obviously take a little more time than rifle hunting so consider hunting for more days when booking your hunt.

BLUE DUCK STATION HUNTING

Hunting for conservation.

New Zealand’s only native land mammals are pekapeka or the short tailed and the long tailed bat. Humans have introduced all the other land mammals that now call New Zealand home. As these mammals are introduced there are often no predators, add in mild winters and an abundance of food resulting in unsustainable high numbers. Hunting plays an important part of controlling numbers so that our native flora and fauna are not destroyed.

At Blue Duck Station we believe in utilising the whole animal that we have hunted. We feed ourselves and our dogs and service our small mammal traps with the animal. Nothing is wasted and we know our meat is free range, fresh and organic.  Our knowledgeable guides will ensure you have a fantastic learning experience in our remote NZ bush.

Uncontrolled deer numbers can be detrimental for the forest. Problems include lack of regeneration, cleared undergrowth, trampled ground cover, compacted subsoils, exposed tree roots and stripped bark.

We offer guided hunting for both red and fallow deer; the first hunt here is always guided, repeat guests to our lodges are welcome to hunt without a guide by prearrangement and provided they have a valid New Zealand firearms licence. Please ensure that you book early for the roar.

Prices: $295 for a guided hunt or $500 full day (maximum 2 people per guide). Red deer: $500 for a meat deer or spiker. 8 pointers are $800 plus $100 for every additional point. Fallow deer: $250, for a meat deer or spiker. Stags are priced from $800 depending on the head.

Goats are browsers and will eat a wide range of plant material including shrubs, trees, grasses and weeds. They are also agile and can accelerate erosion and push holes in fences. Goats are in abundance on the station and hunting them with a guide is the perfect introduction to larger game for the inexperienced hunter or young fella who wants to learn stalking and bush skills.

Prices: $175 per person for a guided hunt (minimum two people – includes the animal)

Rabbits and hares are primarily an agricultural pest, competing with livestock for pasture and causing extensive damage to erosion prone soil to the point that land can be rendered useless. They can also cause damage to vulnerable native plant communities. Small game are the ideal introduction to shooting and processing your own meat.

Price: $120 per person including all animals

small_game_hunting

Feral pigs can cause long term impacts to the ecosystem, compete for food with native animals, can cause damage to kiwi feeding areas and they also kill lambs and cast sheep. Our pig hunting  includes a guide, ATV transport and experienced pig dogs.

Prices: $595 per guided hunt for up to two people (including the animal)

At Poronui Hunting we want to make your New Zealand hunting trip as memorable and as easy as possible. And if you’re looking to hunt for a red stag trophy ,  you’ve come to the right place!

It’s important you have the right clothing and equipment for the climate and the hunting terrain in New Zealand. The weather can change suddenly, especially in the forest or at high elevation, so you need to be prepared. Four seasons in one day is a phrase that could have been coined to describe New Zealand, and, remember, the seasons are opposite those of the northern hemisphere.

New Zealand is a small mountainous country, and our climate is heavily influenced by maritime conditions. As a result, weather conditions can fluctuate significantly at any time of the year, and it pays to be prepared.

The terrain can be challenging and a good level of fitness is recommended, especially when stalking a stag over a couple of days. You’ll be traversing hillsides, dropping over mountains, and creeping through streams and gorges in search of your trophy stag.

hunting trips north island nz

Different species of deer can be found in hard antler practically all-year round in New Zealand. The main hunting season is between late February and the beginning of August when red stag, sika, and fallow deer are in hard antler. The rut commences mid-March for red stags, followed a month later for sika, fallow, and then rusa.

hunting trips north island nz

Chamois and tahr are both available in their summer coats down at Glazebrook during this time.

hunting trips north island nz

The start of the hunting season. Red and sika stags are in hard antler by the third week. A great time to look over plenty of stags in the open country and pick a really big trophy that is in good shape before the rigors of the rut.

hunting trips north island nz

Big monster. Early in the month the sika stags are in the open before they head to the bush before the rut. Mid-March it's all on for the red stags with the rut reaching its peak in late March and early April.

hunting trips north island nz

As the rut of the reds begins to tail off, the sika are really hitting their straps, usually towards the end of the second week. As if this isn't enough, fallow bucks will make themselves heard before the end of the month.

hunting trips north island nz

The red stags move away from the hinds during May in preparation for the winter. In the South Island the chamois and tahr coats are in their prime. The tahr commence their rut and bulls are generally higher in the mountains with groups of nannies.

hunting trips north island nz

In the South Island the chamois and tahr coats are still in their prime. Towards the end of June, expect to see stags out in the open in bachelor groups as they try to pile on condition.

hunting trips north island nz

July is a very good month to pick out a sika or red stag trophy. It's amazing what wanders out from the bush now that they have lost interest in females! Tahr and chamois coats are superb, though by now they will leave the nannies and start congretating in bachelor groups. In July, rusa stags will be making the odd grunt or two as they practice for the rut.

hunting trips north island nz

Last chance for a big red stag as the antlers will start dropping by the second week of the month. The smaller stags will not shed until September but the really big boys are a couple of weeks earlier. The rusa have come out of the woodwork and are grunting up a storm.

hunting trips north island nz

There are still great opportunities for chamois, tahr, and rusa.

hunting trips north island nz

Probably the last really good month for tahr and chamois, as their coats are climate-dependent and will start to change in the coming months. Rusa and sambar are still available, and, if fishing is on the program, the new season gets underway 1 October.

hunting trips north island nz

Rusa are the main trophy option in November. The spring growth drags the stags out onto the grass as they recover condition after the rut. It's also a popular time for a spring meat hunt.

hunting trips north island nz

Rusa and a spring meat hunt are the pre-Christmas highlights. It's possible to get chamois and tahr in their summer coats.

hunting trips north island nz

  • A good wind-proof, water-proof shell layer is essential at any time.
  • Layering for the conditions is preferable to wearing a heavily insulated coat, as, even in the middle of winter, a warm day would make this unbearable on the hill. This allows you to be comfortable during the chill of an early morning frost and then strip a layer or two off later as temperatures rise.
  • Camouflage-patterned clothing is an advantage but not essential, though colors need to be dull greens, browns, or olive if camouflage isn’t worn.
  • Solid footwear is important. Boots with good ankle support and a firm sole with good grip are very important, particularly in the steeper conditions found in the South Island.
  • Most New Zealand hunting is spot and stalk. Good binoculars are essential for spotting animals, with 10*40s ideal.
  • A spotting scope is ideal for judging trophies from a distance.

hunting trips north island nz

We work with some of the leading taxidermists in New Zealand, and can easily arrange to have your trophy mounted and sent to you back home. Taxidermy of a big stag usually costs around US$1,000. Subsequent animals are less.

hunting trips north island nz

If you prefer to expedite your trophy to your preferred taxidermist at home, we can help arrange this for you for an additional fee. The expediter will do the paperwork, pack the animal into the crate, and send it. Please note that meat can’t be exported to the United States.

hunting trips north island nz

We recommend flat shooting calibres, such as .300 Winchester magnum, which will cope with the range of species and terrain found in New Zealand. Visitors to New Zealand bringing firearms or ammunition must obtain a visitors firearms licence.

Licences can be obtained online. We recommend applying well in advance of your trip to ensure there are no issues. Note that if you intend to use a firearm and ammunition supplied by our lodges you will not require a visitor’s licence. In this instance you are under the active supervision of your guide and do not need an individual licence.

hunting trips north island nz

The New Zealand Government has introduced a new travel requirement for some visitors and transit passengers. It’s called the NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority), and travelers need to request theirs via the official mobile app or website. Approval can take up to 72 hours, so get yours before you go.

The NZeTA is required for travel from 1 October 2019.

About hunting in New Zealand

Beautiful vistas and a large selection of game to hunt await the hunter visiting New Zealand. Whether you are a seasoned international hunter or just looking for your first international hunting experience, this South Pacific nation is an ideal destination. A hunt in New Zealand is easy to plan, and it is a safe and welcoming country. Because it is stable and friendly, New Zealand is also a perfect place to include your spouse or family in your adventure. New Zealand offers very diverse terrain that accommodates the desires or physical limitations of all hunters. Hunts can be conducted from the comfort of a five-star lodge with a swimming pool and spa, or from a tented spike camp in the wilderness. The easily accessible lush and grassy lowlands are home to estate hunts which can be accessed via trucks or ATVs. This is often a good option if a companion chooses to stay in the lodge and enjoy the amenities or do some touring. Hunters may also choose remote wilderness hunts in the high alpine ruggedness of the Southern Alps, which are accessed mainly by hiking or helicopter. These are more physical hunts with thick brush and steeper terrain. You can also choose a combination of both. A large selection of game awaits the hunter visiting New Zealand. The majestic red stag is always a favorite for hunters and usually the focus of the hunt. The Himalayan tahr is another of the pinnacle species in New Zealand and can be very challenging to hunt in the steep, rugged terrain where they live. Other species include the handsome fallow deer, chamois, and many other varieties of deer, goats, sheep, and even water buffalo. Again, this selection offers choices to fit every hunter’s tastes and capabilities. All of New Zealand is picturesque, with many locations combining coastal beaches transitioning up to majestic rocky peaks, making this a photographer’s dream. Touring is easily incorporated with a hunt and can include historic sites, glacier hikes, scenic train rides, paragliding, hiking, and helicopter scenic trips. New Zealand makes for a complete hunting vacation adventure that will be sure to please all tastes.

What you need to know

  • 1. Planning your trip
  • 2. Upon arrival
  • 4. After the hunt

Planning your trip

Flights are readily available into New Zealand from most countries. Entry into the country is easy and the authorities are friendly and make the process very comfortable. Visitors from a long list of visa waiver countries don’t need to apply in advance for a visa for a stay of three months or less in New Zealand—a visa will be issued on arrival. Check the list of visa waiver countries at https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas .

At least one month before you leave, apply for a temporary firearms license from the New Zealand Police. This is a simple process that can be done online. Your outfitter should assist you with this and provide any pertinent information, and you can also find information here .

The other option, if you’d rather avoid this process, is to rent a gun from your outfitter, but check with your outfitter to make sure they have guns available.

Upon arrival

After clearing immigration you’ll pick up your baggage from the carousel. If you have brought your own firearm, you must declare it to Customs, who will refer you to the New Zealand police. They will check your passport and other paperwork, collect the $25 license application fee (you will have to change currency in the arrivals area since this fee must be paid in New Zealand currency), and issue your firearms permit and import license. Be sure your hunting boots are clean; as an agricultural island nation New Zealand is extremely careful not to allow the import of foreign soils or nematodes.

The most sought-after big-game species in New Zealand are red stag, fallow deer, Himalayan tahr, and Alpine chamois, but there are many other huntable species on the North and South Islands including Arapawa sheep and several types of deer. All of these species are available in both free-range situations as well as behind high fences, so be sure to find out from your outfitter what type of hunt is on offer.

Specifics of hunting

Because all of New Zealand’s big-game species were introduced at one time, they are considered pests in many areas and therefore some methods of hunting that are not legal in other areas are accepted here. That sometimes include hunting from helicopters, which is not considered fair chase by most hunters. However, because of the steep mountains, many outfitters allow clients the option of being dropped off on a mountaintop by helicopter and continuing the hunt on foot; this is a widely accepted practice in some areas of the South Island. In other areas, however, hunts are conducted entirely on foot. Hunters pursuing the mountain game species should be aware that the terrain is extremely rugged, steep, and challenging.

After the hunt

Once your hunt is completed your trophies are usually transported to a local taxidermist to prepare them for export. In some cases, if time permits, you may take your trophies home with you but in most cases they will be shipped to you for import into your country for delivery to your taxidermist of choice. Trophies may also be mounted by one of New Zealand’s expert taxidermists and then shipped to you.

A hunt like no other

Welcome to leithen valley hunts.

For three generations, the Stewart family has protected and preserved the finest habitat for world-class trophy game animals in New Zealand. Our property provides the hunter with vast terrain and the space necessary for a fair chase trophy experience. Across over 40,000 acres of private land, our professional guides go out of their way to make your hunt one you will never forget. There is nothing that gets the adrenaline pumping more than the approach of a trophy animal, as you roar or grunt to get the ideal shot!

Red Stag, Fallow Buck, Tahr and Chamois were all introduced to New Zealand in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Allowed to roam freely over the rolling hills of Leithen Valley, they hug the edge of the beech forest in which they thrive. Known for their large, dark antlers and delicious meat, our trophy animals provide the ultimate hunting prize in one of the world’s most stunning places.

The world's largest red deer stags are the prized attraction for international hunters visiting New ... [+] Zealand.

Long before Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy put New Zealand on everyone’s travel list, hunters and anglers long coveted the island nation’s riches of fish and game. It is a sportsman’s Jurassic Park, where beasts grow to near-mythic dimensions and the stunning landscape inspired the fictitious land of Middle-earth.

New Zealand’s temperate climate, rich volcanic soils, lack of apex predators, and lush pasturelands proved the perfect habitat on which to introduce all manner of the Old World’s famous game—especially red deer.

New Zealand's many mountain-framed lakes provide stunning backdrops for many adventures.

In the early 1900s, the red deer, chamois from the Alps, fallow deer, the large-bodied sambar deer, reclusive rusa stags, Himalayan tahr (a mountain goat-like animal), elk from North America, and wild boar were all brought to New Zealand, a country that originally had but one species of mammal—a bat.

Essentially, game keepers and biologists saw New Zealand as a blank canvas on which to create a wild game masterpiece, so they did. Without natural predators nor severe winters to slow the population growth of the country’s new cast of horned and antlered creatures populations of many of the introduced species exploded. So prolific were the red deer, for instance, that a few decades ago game managers were forced to conduct extensive culling operations to bring the deer numbers back to levels the habitat could support.

John Scurr poses with a pair of pukeko or swamphens, one of several indigenous game birds found in ... [+] New Zealand.

Today, these same red deer have become a popular draw for hunters from across the world—especially Americans. Thousands of U.S. hunters travel to New Zealand annually to partake in big game hunting.

“Most hunters know of New Zealand as the home of the world’s biggest stags,” says John Scurr , a Kiwi native and veteran hunting operator who specializes in arranging custom hunting and fishing experiences for all manner of the nation’s fish and game. “But we have many game species that are thriving here on both the North and South islands.”

Wine tours are just one of many diversions available to visiting sportsmen.

For Scurr, however, it’s about customizing diverse New Zealand tour packages that allow visiting hunters and anglers to immerse themselves in a wide range of attractions and activities that complement rod and gun adventures.

“New Zealand is a his and her (and family) destination, so if a hunter wants to bring a non-hunting spouse or friend here,” says Scurr, “we can arrange a wide assortment of activities from helicopter junkets to volcanos and glaciers, lake excursions, wine tours, glacier climbing, jet boating, hiking and biking, bungy jumping, parasailing, or drives through the countryside to explore any number of our inviting communities.”

New Zealand's wealth of breathtaking scenery is reason enough to visit.

Sportsmen’s dollars, then, are helping support the entire tourism economy, the nation’s second largest industry behind agriculture. In addition, hunting provides the financial incentive to keep lands wild, supporting myriad non-game species that depend on the same cover as deer and other game.

“Rather than sitting in a lodge for a week and then returning home,” says Scurr, “many of our sporting clients want to experience more of New Zealand before they go. And most of our hunting areas are conveniently located near other great attractions.”

The bustling and beautiful town of Wanaka with a population of some 12,000 is located on the shores of stunning Lake Wanaka, a 74-square-mile body of water, and is home base for Scurr’s South Island adventures.

Scurr poses with accomplished Oklahoma hunter Suzie Brewster and her giant stag.

“We put some of our hunters up in well-appointed lakeside condos,” he says, “and we dine in restaurants that are all within easy walking distance. And our hunting areas are located just a ten-minute drive from town. This has been a very popular package for us as non-hunting spouses can enjoy a wide range of amenities offered in Wanaka (spas, shops, restaurants, tours, art, and cultural opportunities) and then come together with their husbands after the hunt to share an evening on the town.”

Nearly as famous as its stag hunting, New Zealand is a celebrated fly-fishing destination for outsized rainbow and brown trout. The plethora of gin-clear rivers and lakes along with a handful of famous lodges, put the country high on most trout anglers’ must-visit list.

The inviting and bustling community of Wanaka is home base for Scurr's South Island offerings.

Adding some bird hunting to the menu is a simple proposition as well, for New Zealand has a mix of endemic and introduced game bird species including the highly prized (and striking) paradise duck.

For hunters who don’t want the hassle of flying with their own firearms, Scurr has a wide assortment of rifles and shotguns for rent. “We find that most hunters choose to use our guns because it saves a lot of headaches dealing with gun licensing and customs. But if a hunter would rather bring his favorite rifle, we’ll assist with the permit process as well.”

For Scurr, sharing the best of New Zealand is his life's passion.

For Scurr, it’s about sharing the wealth of sporting and recreational opportunities that his native New Zealand has to offer. “We have a unique landscape and with that comes special opportunities for visiting sportsmen and others,” he says. “And when someone books with us we want them to go home and share the experience with their friends as they plan their next adventure to New Zealand.”
