Medjugorje, located in Bosnia & Herzegovina, is the site of the 1981 Marian Apparitions. On June 24th 1981 six children witnessed the Blessed Virgin Mary on what is now known as Apparition Hill. The apparition of Our Lady had a message of peace for the world, as well as a call to conversion, prayer and fasting. She appeared to them with an infant in their arms and confided several secrets to the children. Some of the children, now adults, continue to witness Our Lady’s apparitions.

Depart Manchester, fly to Split or Dubrovnik. Upon arrival you will be met by our representative and transferred by private coach to Medjugorje, evening meal provided on arrival.

Morning Mass is followed by an introductory talk and tour of the Shrine. Evening Rosary in the Parish Church followed by parish Mass in Croatian, blessings, prayers for healing and the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. Simultaneous translation is provided by the Parish Office. Please bring a small radio and headphones.

We have a morning meeting with one of the Visionaries, followed by Mass and a talk from one of the local Franciscan priests. Climb the hill of the Apparitions (Podbrdo) for a time of prayer in the afternoon. After dinner the evening programme begins as the night before with the Rosary.

Today we will take part in a climb of Mt. Krizevac (Cross Mountain) to follow the ‘Way of the Cross’. Evening programme continues as before.

Morning Mass followed by meeting with one of the Visionaries. There is an afternoon visit to Cenacolo, a community for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts. Evening programme continues as before.

Morning meeting in the Community of the Oasis of Peace followed by Mass. Optional afternoon trip to a Franciscan Monastery in Humac or to Studenci, the Shrine of the Sacred Heart (extra charge). Evening programme continues as before.

Early morning meeting with one of the Visionaries followed by an afternoon walk through the vineyards to the Blue Cross, a place of many Apparitions of Our Lady. Evening programme as continues before.

Depart Medjugorje for the transfer to Dubrovnik or Split for the flight back to Manchester.

The Church of St. James is located in the heart of the Sanctuary (Holy Mass, Adoration, Veneration). Within the grounds of the church you will find the following buildings and services.

Information Centre – providing information on the daily programme and all aspects of Medjugorje.

Outside Altar/White Dome – used in the summer for Holy Mass and church ceremonies.

Queen of Peace Statue – a white marble statue in front of the church.

Conference Hall – used for meetings with the visionaries and local Franciscans.

Confessionals – on the left of the church, confessions heard daily from 18.00hrs.

Statue of St Leopold Mandič, patron saint of confession, located beside the confessionals.

Adoration Chapel – silent exposition of the Blessed Sacrament daily from 13.00 hrs till 18.00hrs.

Prayer Park, beside the church on the right. Candles may only be lit here and nowhere else in Medjugorje.

Mysteries of Light, located behind the church, mosaics line the pathway leading to Statue of Risen Jesus.

Statue of Risen Jesus, located behind the church with the Stations of the Cross, a place for silent prayer.

Cemetery and Fr. Slavko’s grave – a place of quiet prayer, located just beyond Statue of Risen Jesus.

The ethereal story began on Wednesday, June 24, 1981, the feast of St. John the Baptist, when five children and one adult claimed to have encountered the Blessed Mother. They were:

They observe an ethereal figure in the heavens—a radiant and lovely young woman cradling a child. Instantly recognizing the apparition as the Virgin Mary, they comprehend, even though she remains silent and only signals them to approach.

Gripped by fear, they hastily flee. Upon returning home, they share the encounter with family members but they are apprehensive of potential repercussions (considering the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia’s official atheistic stance), and instruct them to remain silent.

Second Apparition

On the following day, Thursday, June 25, 1981, four of the youngsters felt a compelling inner calling to return to the same location where they had encountered the radiant presence. By then, word had spread through half the village about the events of the previous day, prompting many villagers to gather and observe.

This time, the four members* along with Marija Pavlović, 16, Milka’s older sister, and the 10-year-old Jakov Čolo bravely confronted the beautiful lady in the sky. This time, however, she was not holding a child.

Responding to Our Lady’s signal, the six young visionaries swiftly ascend Podbrdo (Apparition Hill) amid rocks and brambles, unharmed and feeling mysteriously transported. Once again, six children witnessed the luminosity and approached the figure in a radiant silver-gray gown, a white veil, and a crown of twelve stars. Strangely, the village residents couldn’t perceive the apparition.

It was on that second day that the woman spoke to them for the first time. She said to the children:

“Be not afraid. I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is the fullness of life, and to enjoy this fullness and peace, you must return to God.” – Our Lady

After engaging briefly in gentle conversation, Our Lady promised to return after praying with them.

Third Apparition

On the evening of Friday, June 26, 1981, over 1,000 people assembled, drawn by a radiant glow. Acting on the counsel of some elders, Vicka decided to test the apparition by throwing a bottle of holy water, expressing, “If you are the Madonna, stay with us; if not, go away!” with conviction. In response to Mirjana’s direct inquiry, “What’s your name?” Our Lady, for the first time, gently smiled and uttered the words:

I am the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace. – Our Lady

Following the first three apparitions, the six Medjugorje visionaries faced police interrogations, medical exams, and skepticism from authorities and the local priest. Despite attempts to limit access, a crowd of 15,000 witnessed an Apparition on June 28.

On June 29, the visionaries underwent psychiatric examinations but were declared sane. The Virgin Mary continued to appear, emphasizing prayer and faith.

Authorities tried to disrupt the visionaries’ routine on June 30, but an inner urgency led them back to the Apparition site. Despite police restrictions, divine phenomena persisted.

July 1 brought threats to the visionaries’ parents, and three girls faced a deceptive abduction. The divine events attracted increasing attention and sparked miraculous healing.

Medjugorje Visionaries

The Medjugorje visionaries experienced daily apparitions of the Virgin Mary beginning in 1981. Despite skepticism and challenges, they conveyed messages and secrets, drawing global attention to the Bosnian town.

Visionaries described the apparitions as regular, occurring at a set time each day or on specific dates—they continued for many years and continue to this day for some of them. In short, the messages conveyed are centered around faith, prayer, peace, and conversion.

• Ivan Dragičević : He continues to receive daily apparitions, with Our Lady confiding nine secrets to him.
• Vicka Ivanković: She continues to experience daily apparitions, with Our Lady entrusting her with nine secrets.
• Mirjana Dragičević : Experiencing daily apparitions until December 25, 1982, Our Lady entrusted Mirjana with the 10th secret, specifying that henceforth, she would have an annual apparition on March 18. Starting from August 2, 1987, every second day of the month, Mirjana hears Our Lady’s voice inwardly and engages in prayer for nonbelievers.
• Ivanka Ivanković : As the initial witness to Our Lady, she encountered daily apparitions until May 7, 1985. On that significant day, Our Lady entrusted to her the 10th secret and revealed that she would have an annual apparition on June 25, marking the anniversary of the apparitions, for the remainder of her life.
• Marija Pavlović : She continues to have daily apparitions, serving as the conduit for Our Lady’s messages to the parish and the world. Initially, from March 1, 1984, to January 8, 1987, the message was conveyed every Thursday, and since January 1987, it occurs on every 25th of the month. Our Lady has entrusted her with nine secrets.
• Jakov Colo : Experiencing daily apparitions from June 25, 1981, to September 12, 1998, on the latter date, Our Lady entrusted to him the 10th secret. She conveyed that for the remainder of his life, he would have an annual apparition on Christmas Day.

What Do They See and Hear?

Typically, Our Lady manifests her daily apparitions in Medjugorje around 6:40 p.m. or at 5:40 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time. However, there may be variations in the timing for specific visionaries due to travel or particular circumstances. For instance, during Ivan’s prayer groups on Monday and Friday nights, Our Lady reveals herself to him at 10:00 p.m.

During one unique experience, Vicka and Jakov had Our Lady physically transport them to heaven, hell, and purgatory at Jakov’s house, lasting around 20 minutes. Unlike them, the remaining visionaries witnessed visions of these realms, similar to watching a movie or peering out a window, with Mirjana and Ivanka opting not to witness hell.

The 10 Secrets

Through the apparitions, the six visionaries were informed by Our Lady of Medjugorje that she would reveal to them the 10 secrets. While the 10 Secrets are often discussed, there remains limited information about their details. Mirjana, one of the six visionaries, has been selected by Our Lady to bear the responsibility of assisting in the disclosure of the secrets.

The 10 secrets of Medjugorje refer to a series of future events that were reportedly revealed by the Virgin Mary to the visionaries in Medjugorje. Overall, there is limited public knowledge about the secrets of Medjugorje.

The details of these secrets have not been disclosed publicly, as they are meant to unfold at appointed times in the future. The secrecy surrounding the 10 secrets adds an element of mystery and anticipation among believers, and their content remains unknown until the events themselves transpire or are revealed by the visionaries at the appropriate time.

What Do We Know About the 10 Secrets

Our Lady has specifically instructed the Medjugorje visionaries to maintain secrecy, even amongst themselves, regarding the 10 Secrets. Rather than dwelling on the secrets, the visionaries advocate for immediate conversion. Mirjana was entrusted by the Blessed Mother to reveal the secrets to the world through Fr. Petar Ljubicic .

Secrets entrusted by Our Lady, once unveiled, are anticipated to spark widespread conversions globally. Also, the secrets, including chastisements, are foretold to unfold during the visionaries’ lifetimes. Among the visionaries, three possess all ten secrets, while the remaining three are privy to nine.

Mirjana, Ivanka, and Jakov, three of the visionaries, hold all 10 secrets. For this reason, they no longer receive daily apparitions from Our Lady. Mirjana got the 10th secret in 1982, Ivanka in 1985, and Jakov in 1998. On the other hand, Ivan, Marija, and Vicka each possess nine secrets. Consequently, they continue to have daily apparitions from Our Lady, as of January 2024.

Third Secret Revealed

Released by the Vatican on June 26, 2000, the third secret of Medjugorje is linked to the events of Fatima. Our Lady conveyed that a lasting, indestructible, supernatural sign would appear on Apparition Hill. This manifestation will mark the conclusion of her apparitions at that location. The specifics of this sign were disclosed by the Blessed Virgin during the revelation of the third secret.

Furthermore, the indestructible sign on Apparition Hill is intended for atheists. Our Lady emphasizes the urgency of conversion, cautioning that waiting for the sign is too late.

Seventh Secret

Our Lady revealed the seventh secret to Mirjana in Sarajevo. Disturbed by its content, Mirjana implored Our Lady for a way to alleviate the secret’s impact. Our Lady responded with a simple directive: “Pray.”

Troubled by it, Mirjana prayed intensely, rallying others to join. After eight months, Our Lady informed Mirjana that the seventh secret had been mitigated. This highlights the power of prayer and collective devotion in influencing the revealed secrets.

Ninth and 10th Secrets

The ninth and 10th secrets carry significant gravity, addressing chastisement for the world’s sins. Inevitably, punishment awaits, as the complete conversion of the entire world is not anticipated. While prayer and penance can mitigate the severity of the punishment, its complete elimination is not possible.

Undisclosed Secrets

Other undisclosed secrets, unique to each visionary, may involve both blessings and chastisements. Despite efforts, some events may be unavoidable.

Mirjana plays a role in revealing imminent events to Father Petar Ljubicic. Most importantly, she emphasizes urgent prayer, especially for non-believers and the youth. Once all six visionaries have received the complete set of 10 secrets, Our Lady will cease her daily appearances.

The Three Warnings

Once Our Lady ceases her apparitions, three warnings will be issued to the world through earthly events. Mirjana, a witness to these warnings within her lifetime, will collaborate with the chosen priest. In this case, it’s Father Petar Ljubicic, who will pray and fast for seven days before each event.

Three days before each warning, Father Petar will publicly disclose the details. Following the first warning, the subsequent two will swiftly ensue, fostering a period of significant grace and conversion.

Due to the speed at which the secrets unfold, urgent conversion is necessary. Following the manifestation of the permanent supernatural sign on Apparition Hill, those who remain unconverted will find themselves defenseless.

Mirjana, bearing witness to the imminent fulfillment of the Virgin’s predictions, passionately urges the world to expedite their conversion. She implores everyone to embrace God with open hearts and prepare for the events foretold. The urgency of this message underscores the significance of spiritual transformation in the face of anticipated events.

Following the realization of the 10 Secrets, humanity is said to transform. It will transition from a period of conflict and rebellion to an era characterized by peace and spirituality.

Five Stones – Weapons to Fight Off Evil

Our Lady aims to reveal, through her messages, the true essence of Christianity and the route to peace. She emphasizes the reality of Satan and how he manipulates us for his destructive purposes. For instance, Satan targets love, peace, faith, family, and life. Similar to how God equipped David with five stones to conquer Goliath, Our Lady provides us with five stones or instruments to overcome Satan, they are:

• Daily Prayer (specifically the Rosary)
• Fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays
• Holy Mass (Eucharist)
• Daily Reading of the Bible
• Monthly Confession

Walking Up Apparition Hill

Apparition Hill, where Our Lady first appeared in June 1981, is a sacred path leading from Bijakovići houses in Medjugorje. Along the rocky journey, bronze reliefs depict Rosary mysteries, with pilgrims often praying as they ascend. The hill, adorned with a large wooden cross, marks where visionary Marija Pavlović received the first apparition on June 26, 1981. Our Lady’s call for peace resounded here: “Peace, peace, peace!” A marble Queen of Peace statue stands at the original site, promising a future sign as part of the secrets. Placed in 2001, it mirrors the church’s statue.

For us, walking up Apparition Hill was a significant part of the pilgrimage experience. The hill is not particularly steep, but the terrain can be uneven, with rocky paths and dirt trails. Pilgrims often engage in prayer, reflection, and recitation of the Rosary while ascending.

The duration of the walk depends on various factors, including the starting point and the pilgrim’s pace. For instance, from St. James the Greater Church it’s 1.5 miles to the base of the hill. Unless you have a rental car or enjoy hiking, it’s advisable to opt for a taxi, especially in the summer heat.

On average, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the apparition site from the bottom of the hill. Some pilgrims find the journey spiritually enriching, considering it a time for personal reflection and connection with their faith, and for this reason, take their time going up and down.

Going Barefoot

Walking barefoot up Apparition Hill is a practice rooted in religious and spiritual traditions. Pilgrims believe that by walking barefoot, they are offering a physical sacrifice as a symbol of humility and penance. It is considered a way to unite with the suffering of Christ and to express devotion and sincerity in prayer.

The practice is not obligatory, but many pilgrims choose to walk barefoot voluntarily. The journey up the hill is often accompanied by prayers, reflections, and a sense of solidarity with other pilgrims. Also, the act of walking barefoot is believed to enhance the spiritual experience and bring a deeper connection to the sacred site.

Krizevac – Cross Mountain

Cross Mountain, standing tall in Medjugorje, is approximately 1,706 feet (520 meters) high and is adorned with a 27-foot (8.5 meter) cross erected in 1934. Positioned at a distance of 1.2 miles from Apparition Hill and 1.0 miles from the Church of St. James the Greater, this sacred site offers pilgrims a penitential climb, often taken barefoot, symbolizing sacrifice and devotion.

Pilgrims ascend seeking reflection, healing, and peace, guided by Our Lady’s messages emphasizing its significance. The climb becomes a transformative journey, drawing pilgrims closer to Christ in the spiritually rich landscape of Medjugorje.

Located at the base of Apparition Mountain, the Blue Cross marks where Our Lady appeared to visionaries seeking refuge from Communist authorities. Initially, Ivan’s prayer group gathered here during the early 1990s, drawing immense crowds. Due to the surging pilgrims, a second Blue Cross was added, designating the actual apparition site.

Amid tranquil surroundings, pilgrims experience Our Lady’s peace. Apparitions, held when Ivan visits from April to September on Monday and Friday evenings, foster spiritual moments. Additionally, Mirjana’s monthly apparitions for non-believers unfold at the Blue Cross.

This serene locale, adorned with two blue crosses, embodies the enduring essence of Medjugorje’s spiritual encounters. In the end, the question on everyone’s mind is, why blue? The choice of blue was purely accidental—Ivan stumbled upon leftover blue paint in his father’s shed, giving the cross its distinctive blue hue.

Finally, consider watching “ Gospa ” before your Medjugorje pilgrimage. It’s a film that tells the story of the events in Medjugorje, focusing on the experiences of the local Franciscan priest, Father Jozo Zovko.

The movie explores the challenges faced by the community during the reported apparitions. Martin Sheen portrays Father Jozo Zovko, highlighting the spiritual and political complexities of the time. The film delves into the impact of the apparitions on the local people and the Catholic Church.

Catholic Church’s Official Position

It’s important to note that the Catholic Church has not officially authenticated these events. For example, in a meeting in Zadar on April 10, 1991, the Bishops’ Conference of Yugoslavia made it clear that, based on their studies, they couldn’t confirm the occurrence of supernatural apparitions and revelations.

On March 26, 2010, a formal commission led by Cardinal Camillo Ruini began investigating Medjugorje. In late summer 2016, the Ruini report’s recommendations were sent to Pope Francis by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), formerly the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The report suggested placing Medjugorje under Vatican control, allowing organized pilgrimages, declaring it a pontifical shrine, and authenticating the first apparitions.

In May 2018, Archbishop Henryk Hoser was assigned to oversee Medjugorje, placing it under Vatican control. In May 2019, gained recognition as a sanctioned pilgrimage site, awaiting Vatican certification of the 1981 apparitions’ authenticity. Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Msgr. Aldo Cavalli in November 2021 to continue the special role for Medjugorje after Archbishop Hoser’s death.

Currently, the Yugoslav Bishops Conference in 1991 determined that it’s unclear if the events are of supernatural origin. This decision remains in effect until the DDF finalizes its findings. The Holy See still acknowledges and respects this judgment.

While the Catholic Church hasn’t authenticated the apparitions, it doesn’t lessen the importance of the Medjugorje pilgrimage or the events that unfolded there. The recounting of events involving the six children attests to their truthfulness and challenges any skepticism about their accounts.

Day 1  - Airport pick up from Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, or Split, Croatia Have dinner and overnight in Medjugorje.

Day 2  -  Medjugorje Saint James church & Tihaljina visit

Breakfast at the hotel.  

Join the daily English Mass at 10 am 

After English mass meet your guide at the front of St. James church who will take you for an orientation tour of St. James church and its surroundings (Adoration chapel, the Exterior altar, Statue of the Queen of Peace, and St. Leopold, Risen Savior statue and its prayer area etc..) 

Visit to Tihaljina, the church of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary  A day trip to the monastery and church in Tihaljina is also a popular pleasure trip.

Return to Medjugorje.

Day 3  -  Medjugorje Cross Mountain & Siroki Brijeg

After early breakfast morning meets your guide who will accompany you to Cross Mountain. As you climb, you can see the inspired artistry of the bronze plaques depicting each mystery of the Way of the cross.

Cross Mountain (Krizevac)

 “Krizevac” means “Mount of the Cross.” It is the highest mountain in the area. In 1933, the parish of St. James erected a large concrete cross to commemorate the 1900th Anniversary of Jesus’ passion and death on the Cross. Cross Mountain is central to one’s pilgrimage to Medjugorje. It is a penitential climb that leads pilgrims to reflect upon their relationship with God and what they need to change in their lives to draw closer to Him. Often deep healing, cleansing, and peace are experienced at the summit of the mountain, at the foot of the cross, after pilgrims arrive at the top. Our Lady has made it clear in Her messages that she desires to see pilgrims climbing both Cross Mountain and Apparition Mountain.

Free time for lunch

Departure to Siroki Brijeg,  Franciscan Monastery with the Church dedicated to the Blessed Mother’s Assumption in Heaven (34 Franciscan priests were killed on 7 February 1945)

The Monastery was built in the late Roman style. The Monastery also hosts a gallery with over 1.500 artworks. The Thirty Franciscan Martyrs of Široki Brijeg were visited by thousands of pilgrims

18-21h Free to join the evening Prayer program and Confession

Day 4 Sarajevo Secret Heart of Jesus Cathedral  After breakfast at the hotel, visit the oldest museum in the country, established in 1884, the Humac Franciscan Monastery (built-in 1869) with its museum and beautiful parish of St. Anthony just outside the town of Ljubuški (15 minutes drive from Medjugorje). The Humac Museum hosts one of the finest collections of ancient relics, all found in the vicinity of the monastery.

Depart to Sarajevo and join us for a 2 hours drive through picturesque mountains.

On your arrival in Sarajevo, you will have a guided tour of Sarajevo by a professional local guide. The tour's city sights include The Turkish old town, known as Bascarsija, Tiny Ottoman quarters lined with sweet shops, cafes, and handicraft workshops, and the Cultural Center of Austro-Hungarian times. An Orthodox and a Catholic church, a mosque, and a synagogue are within easy walking distance of each other.

Free time for lunch and to enjoy moving around on foot. Ferhadija is a famous pedestrian alley that goes through the heart of town and is always filled, day or night, with pedestrians of all ages.

Day 5  -  Apparition hill, Blue Cross and Cenacolo comunity

With your guide follow the same path up Apparition Hill where the young visionaries first encountered Our Lady. As you climb, you can see the inspired artistry of the bronze plaques depicting each mystery of the rosary.

Apparition Hill (Mount Podbrdo)

This mountainous hill is where the visionaries first encountered Our Lady on 25 June 1981. Also, at the base of this hill a Wooden Cross “Marija, walking down the hill, mysteriously was physically pushed to the side and shown by Our Lady a cross, pointing to it saying, ‘Peace, peace, peace.’ It is interesting to note that Our Lady said these words on the third day, June 26, 1981, of the apparitions. Is it not strange that the violence of the Cross, blood, torn flesh, and a terrible atrocity are shown by Our Lady to represent peace? This important lesson teaches many things. When we struggle and are in the midst of turmoil, it is then that we turn to prayer the most, seeking peace. More

When climbing, your group is invited to recite the Rosary, pausing five times for each decade of the Rosary. At the top of the hill, you will witness the exact location of the first alleged apparition of Our Lady to the visionaries and enjoy private time in prayer. It was from Apparition Hill where Our Lady first began inviting the world, through the visionaries and the village of Medjugorje, to respond to Her call. There have been thousands of apparitions of Our Lady to the visionaries’ quarter to 6 pm, where ever they are —apparitions that continue even to this day.

The Blue Cross is located on the left side of the base of Apparition Mountain. It is on this site that Our Lady appeared to the visionaries when they were hiding from the Communist police in the beginning days of the apparitions. A blue cross was erected to mark the spot of the apparitions, which led to the naming of the site, “Blue Cross”, where visionary Mirjana had an Apparition every 2nd of the month at 9 am

Afternoon visit to the “Cenacolo” Community which was founded in Saluzzo (Italy) by Sr. Elvira Petrozzi in 1983, in order to help drug addicts. The main goal of the community is to discover and live the true values of the Christian life.

Day 6 Mostar St Peter & Paul church within Franciscan Monastery  & National Park Kravice Waterfalls

The tour's city sights of the Old town include:

- The Old Bridge the UNESCO heritage is famous and appreciated for its uniqueness in terms of its age, architecture, and beauty.

- Old city, Kujundziluk - English "coppersmiths “area.

After the guided Mostar tour, we will stop at Šadrvan Restaurant for lunch and some rest. The food at Šadrvan is made using age-old local recipes, which you can savor with some of their local wine..

Continue to the Kravica Waterfalls.  Kravica is one of the largest waterfalls in Herzegovina and certainly the most impressive one. The waterfalls have a natural pool dug out at the base of the falls by the constant rush of water. Great place for lunch by the falls.

Day 7   Divine Mercy church with Miraculous Icon as well as  Saint Faustina and Saint Paul John 2nd relics

Depart and visit the Church of Devine Mercy in Surmanci, There is a miraculous icon of Jesus of Mercy. In this church, besides the icon of Jesus of Mercy, there is also a relic of St. Faustina  Saint Paul John II.

In 1990, this icon was in the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Trento. 

This is where Ugo Festa was cured miraculously. In this church, besides the icon of Jesus of Mercy, there is also a relic of St. Faustina.

Medjugorje spiritual getaway Zana was very helpful and offered great ideas for it was my first visit. Emails were usually responded to within the day. I asked for a 5 day 4 night itinerary comprising of what I thought I needed after researching the website. Arrived Sarajevo on the 5th Nov and Filip, Zana's son in law met us, drove us to Medjugorje safely stopping by at a local restaurant for dinner. Excellent food. Finally arrived at the hotel Stana 25 hours after we left Singapore. Zana also runs a gift shop and I found the perfect religious souvenir, an image of Christ that I have been looking for a year. Rest of the trip was awesome. Crowds were thinning approaching the year end. Stefica the guide was both knowledgeable about spiritual and secular insights. Great for pilgrims like us. Would I come again. Certainly.

The tour package was great and enough to see and do for the days . My roommate was very noisy and hardly speak English. Me and 1 other were the only people in the group of 26 + people that speak fluent English. We were separated from the group many time alone with an English guide which I was very angry because I did not asked for a private tour. I should have been in an English speaking group not bilingual. The tour guide gave their best to speak English in many areas to us as you know Spanish description take forever to end.

Overall, this tour was a very good experience. Liviu the tour guide and driver was excellent in terms of sharing his knowledge about the Balkan countries. He is well versed in history. I learned a lot from him. He also took the extra mile in making sure we were happy with the tour. The hotels were generally fine, except a few where the rooms were small and sometimes with no elevator. Getting AC was oftentimes difficult, but it was not too warm outside yet.

Best Tour Ever!!! That is saying something since we travel by tour annually. We're already planning our next tour with Balkland!!! Mike treated us to an exceptional tour!!! It was the perfect balance of tour with plenty of personal time to steep ourselves in the peaceful serenity of Medjugorje and all the services available for visiting pilgrims. We were so grateful for the local guide Blazenka who Mike introduced us to. She shared the incredible history and spirituality of Medjugorje with heart felt joy and her own personal experiences. She also let Mike know that Ivan would be having an extraordinary apparition at the Blue Cross on our last night in Medjugorje so we were able to attend that incredible event. After saying good bye to Medjugorje, Mike took us to the Unesco heritage site Pocitelj, a 15th century village. Then we had a wonderful tour at the impressive Andrija Winery. On the drive back to Sarajevo we visited the gorgeous Kravica Waterfalls and the lovely Bona Spring recreational park!!! Our tour ended with an evening stroll thru historic downtown Sarajevo and a delicious final dinner together!!! It was perfect!!! We are so looking forward to returning for another memorable tour with Balkland!!!

It was good. I didn’t rate it excellent because it was too many people (over 40) and because the majority was Spanish speaking, the guide always spoke in Spanish first and us English speaking have to wait for our English translation before we can see the places. By that time, we have wasted a lot of time waiting and we only had limited time to see the places.The guides should be taking turns on explaining in Spanish and English. In the bus, that would be okay but in the places we were visiting, they should have taken turns. Otherwise, our guide was good and knowledgeable.

We also saw an early church funded by the Sultan many centuries ago that until recently was operating a massive vineyard, Roman ruins in Caplinja and the 15th century town of Pocitelj built into a hillside with the most splendid view of the Neretva River valley. Also the natural wildlife refuge of Park Prirode Hutova Blato. These little known gems of Herzegovina were worth going with Sasa to get a feel for the cultural history of this region…as well as experiencing Mostar with him on another day. Our guide was very timely in picking us up, spoke both English and Bosnian fluently so was able to translate any information we saw and asked about. Had small snack packs ready for us with water, chips & a pastry. The park is absolutely breath taking and contains so many historical stories that are incredible to hear from the locals who work there. There’s many options on what you can do but we choose to walk around a lot to get the most of the scenery. The Medjugorje Pilgrimage 2024 or 2025 tour spends one week in the peaceful mountain hamlet in Bosnia Herzegovina where the Virgin Mary has been appearing since June 25, 1981. Itinerary for Medjugorje Pilgrimage Tour 2024 & 2025

Day 1 depart usa.

Board your overnight transatlantic flights from the USA to begin your pilgrimage to Medjugorje.  Meals are served on board.

Day 2 Arrive Medjugorje

Arrive in Dubrovnik (Split or Sarajevo) where you will be greeted by your tour guide who will then escort you to the private motorcoach which will then take you on the 2 1/2-hour drive to the village of Medjugorje. Once there you will meet your fellow pilgrims and your priest spiritual director.  Dinner and overnight in Medjugorje. 

Day 3 to 8 Medjugorje

During your stay, you will experience the beauty and peace of this simple village, and have the opportunity to share your faith with pilgrims from all over the world. Here are some of the activities planned for the week:

Daily Mass : Each mor ning, at 10:00 am (noon on Sunday), the group will assemble at St. James Church for Mass and the blessing of religious articles immediately following. Climb Apparition Hill : Recite the Rosary while climbing the hill to the place where the visionaries first encountered Our Lady.

Climb Mt. Kri zevac (Cross Mountain) :  In 1933, the villagers b uilt a 30′ high cross atop a mountain to commemorate Jesus’ passion and death on the cross. Climb to the top, stopping 14 times along the way to rest and Pray the Stations of the Cross.

Apparitions : Join  the villagers and fellow pilgrims in praying the Rosary in St. James Church at 5:00 pm (6:00 pm Daylight Savings Time), and stay for the apparition of Our Lady to the visionaries at 5:40 pm (6:40 pm  Daylight Savings Time) . Stay for the Croatian Mass the Blessing of the Sick immediately following.

Adoration of the Blessed Sa crament : Our Lady has always called us to be close to Her Son. Join fellow pilgrims for Adoration on Tuesday and Saturday at the outside altar of St.  James Church, and for Veneration of the C ross on Friday inside the church. Adoration is also available in the Chapel every afternoon.

Meetings  wit h the Visionaries : Pending their availability, the guide will arrange meetings with the Vi sionaries.

Visit to the Community of Cenacolo : Founded by the Sisters of Charity, Cenacolo is a community for young men and women who have lost their way in life and are on the road to recovery. We will hear their inspirational words about their journeys back to Jesus Christ.  Prayer at the Statue of the Risen Christ : Pray at the bronze statue located on the grounds of St. James Church, and witness the droplets of water that miraculously seep out of Christ’s right knee.

Day 9 Medjugorje - Home

  After an early breakfast, you will leave by motorcoach for Dubrovnik Airport (Spilt or Sarajevo) for your return flights home.

How much experience do you have with Medjugorje pilgrimages?

Jimmy’s father organized the very first Medjugorje pilgrimage from the United States.  Jimmy first went to Medjugorje in the very early 1980s.  We have sent very many groups to Medjugorje.

How do I meet up with the group if I make my own flight arrangements? 

If you make your own flight arrangements, we cannot advise you in advance which airport we will be using or the arrival time.  We will make flight arrangements approximately 60 days in advance of the pilgrimage tour start date.  Consequently, make your own flight arrangements well in advance to obtain a good rate or to use airline points.  

Also, arrival times vary between dates and within pilgrimages.  If you make your own flight arrangements, we can arrange a private transfer from Mostar, Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, or Split Airports to the group hotel for $129 per person with a minimum of 2 persons.  We can also arrange a return transfer to the airport at the end of your pilgrimage for $129 per person.  We recommend using our transfer service because they are known and trusted drivers.  As soon as you have your flight information, email Marcelle .

This pilgrimage to Medjugorje was one of my greatest experiences. Everyone got along greatly. Our guide was excellent as usual, Terri Smith was fantastic sharing her experience and the group itself shares stories and makes comment on WhatsApp. I was able to celebrate Mass with my group and con-celebrate daily. I really enjoyed myself as I think I will have new friends for life. I highly recommend this Medjugorje pilgrimage tour and hope to go back one day.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1, tuesday 7th may.

UK - Medjugorje

We fly from London to Split/Dubrovnik. Upon arrival your guide and driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Medjugorje. The journey takes approximately two and a half hours, so sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the countryside and the Adriatic Sea. If time permits, we celebrate Mass in Vepric Holy Shrine - a small Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, or St Peter’s church in Slano (depending on which airport we are arriving at). Continue our journey to Medjugorje and then dinner at the hotel.

Day 2, Wednesday 8th May

Medjugorje - Apparition Hill

After breakfast, we meet with our guide and walk to St James Church where we will have our concelebrated Mass in English. Afterwards, we will have a guided walking tour of the Sanctuary and the surrounding area. We will have lunch and afterwards we go to the Apparition Hill where our guide will explain all the information you long to hear on Our Blessed Mother’s Apparitions. On our way down, we visit Vicka‘s old family house. She is one of the 6 visionaries and received many apparitions during her years here. Evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 3, Thursday 9th May

We will attend concelebrated Mass in English at St James church at 10am. Special Note: Please note that there are many Spiritual activities in Medjugorje and around the Sanctuary you can attend daily. Confessions are conducted throughout the day in many languages (Medjugorje is well known for this). Talks from one of the visionaries could be arranged if they are available, Divine Mercy Prayer at 3pm will be in St James church, visit Risen Christ located at the back of the church and pray the Stations of the Cross here if you wish. We can also revisit the Apparition Hill and the Blue Cross where many of Our Lady’s apparitions and healings have taken place. Daily Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held at the open altar at the back of the church (we can attend this daily). There are many restaurants to choose from, all very reasonably priced as well as shops to browse through. Evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 4, Friday 10th May

Medjugorje - Mt Krizevac

After breakfast, we meet with our guide at the hotel and we walk to the foot of Mount Krizevac or take a taxi (Cross Mountain), a kilometre away from the church and 520 metres above sea level. We pray the Stations of the Cross on the way up to the mountain. Please note that to go up the mountain you must be reasonably fit and be very careful as the mountain has rough rocks and stones to tackle. The Gigantic Cross you see up here was erected by local people in 1933 to commemorate the 1900th anniversary of our Jesus’ Crucifixion. Enjoy the view at the summit and relax before the descent. You can choose to walk or take a taxi back to the hotel. To participate in daily activities in the Sanctuary please read Day 3. Evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 5, Saturday 11th May

Medjugorje - Mostar

Today we explore outside Medjugorje and visit the Old City of Mostar, a Medieval City. The highlight is the famous Old Bridge of Mostar built in the 17th century and sadly destroyed during the Bosnia and Herzegovina war between 1992 and 1995. It is now being restored to is its former glory. We celebrate Mass in St Paul/Peter church here. We stay here for the rest of the day we have lunch and do some shopping here (there are plenty of things you can buy here). Evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 6, Sunday 12th May

Medjugorje - Cenacolo

Mass will be at 10am in St James Church. Free time for the rest of morning and after lunch visit the community of Cenacolo. This was founded by Sister Elvera Petrozzi in 1991 to support young people recovering from addictions and to teach them the simple way of life, with faith in Jesus, and to straighten their paths in life. Taxi to Cenacolo not included approximately £2 each way (4 people sharing). Return to the hotel and evening dinner.

Day 7, Monday 13th May

Medjugorje - Surmanci

After breakfast, we leave Medjugorje and drive to the village of Surmanci where we celebrate Mass in the Church of the Merciful Jesus. In the church there is a miraculous icon of Jesus of Mercy. This icon was in the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Trento where Ugo Festa was miraculously healed when he prayed before it. It also has a small relic of St Faustina. We return to Medjugorje and have lunch here. Free for the remainder of the day. Evening dinner at the hotel.

Day 8, Tuesday 14th May

Medjugorje - UK

After breakfast, we leave Medjugorje for our flight back to London. Depending on the flight time, we may be able to celebrate Mass in Slano or at Vepric Shrine. Proceed to the airport for our flight back to the UK. Note: evening dinner is your first meal on the day we arrive, breakfast is your last meal on the day we leave. Itinerary is subject to change. We’ll begin our full day experience discovering the pure nature of the Neretva Valley. We board on traditionally boat called Ladja – small wooden boats from which are some even 120 years old. They were used for transport of people and goods, but today they have a touristic purpose. You will have your appetizer served in the boat while strolling down little channels on Norin river and enjoying the nature. After photo safari you will visit Narona Archeological Museum is the first in-the-site museum in Croatia and one of the only ones in the world. The museum is built directly on the ancient temple dedicated to Augustus, the first Roman emperor in the modern city of Vid.  After that enjoy in traditionally lunch in local restaurant! Overnight at the hotel.
