Detailed Baguio travel guide with DIY Baguio itinerary with budget including places to see in Baguio.

Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines, has a timeless appeal. This bustling city on the foot of the Cordillera is geographically part of Benguet province, but now operates separately since its conversion to a chartered city. Baguio is largely known as a Tourist Town , attracting hordes of tourists due to its cool weather, pine trees,  artsy-man-made attractions, museums, street arts, and neighboring flower farms and misty mountains. Baguio is also a popular University Town due to the presence of major universities and community colleges in the city. Even Koreans flock to Baguio  to study because of its good reputation as the education capital of Northern Philippines, and cool climate. Koreans even participate in the annual Panagbenga Festival, the largest flower festival in the Philippines.

ABOUT BAGUIO

Baguio City that we see today was actually established by the Americans as a hill station, largely evident are some tourist spots here with American names like Camp John Hay and Burnham Park.   But long before the arrival of the invaders, Baguio City was already inhabited by the Kankana-ey and Ibaloi indigenous peoples of the Cordillera Region, an area known as Kafagway back then.

Today, Baguio where the old and new cultures thrive harmoniously.  Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a repeat visitor, Baguio has something to offer for you. If you plan on traveling to Baguio soon, here’s a comprehensive Baguio Travel Guide with sample Baguio Itinerary for 4 days 3 nights and 3 days 2 nights for you.

BAGUIO ITINERARY: IFUGAO WOMEN

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BAGUIO

Baguio is a year-round destination. But if you want to visit during the coldest months, try December to January. February is peak season for Baguio due to the month-long celebration of its flower festival – Panagbenga Festival. It is also a good month to visit due to the activities during this season, but hotels are usually priced higher during February.

Breathe baguio tour (join tour): reserve here, baguio historical tour: reserve here, baguio cultural tour with easter weaving: book here, baguio instagram walking tour: reserve here, northern blossoms flower farm tour: book here.

Here’s a sample Baguio Itinerary for 2 days. I included the entrance fees on the expenses. I will write a more detailed Baguio Itinerary blog soon.

BAGUIO DRONE

Be careful when flying your drone in Baguio as it is strictly prohibited in some areas, permission might be required from CEPMO. Avoid flying near Loakan Airport, PMA and other military areas, the central business district (avoid residentials buildings), avoid flying in Camp John Hay, the Mansion, and Wright Park.

BAGUIO SAFETY

Baguio is generally tourist friendly and safe even for solo travelers. I have traveled here lone many times in the past, and I’ve always felt safe even when riding taxis alone. Taxi drivers will really give you the exact change, they’re honest, unlike many taxi drivers in Manila.  But as in any other areas, be vigilant in dark places and crowded streets. There are cases of pickpocketing and robberies in Baguio already.

Baguio is a smoke-free city and is pretty strict in prohibiting smoking and vaping in all public places, including parks and other outdoor areas. Smoking is only allowed in establishments with permits to operate smoking area.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio is oozing with accomodations for all types of budget, so you won’t really run out of places to stay, even during the Panagbenga Festival season. I recommend staying near Burnham Park or Session Road as it is near many establishments.

However, most of the newer hotels in Baguio are located outside the downtown area. And they’re usually your best option for mid-range hotels. Anyway, you can easily reach downtown Baguio via taxi or Grab. Expect to pay roughly ₱65 ($1.15) for a taxi to the city center.

Here are some of the top-rated hotels in Baguio.

  • Sotogrande Hotel Baguio
  • Location: Baguio City Proper
  • CHECK RATES HERE OR RESERVE HERE

Stayed in Sotogrande Hotel last time. This is a new hotel. Room has enough space to move around. Their breakfast buffet is pretty generous. They have an in-house restaurant, and I like their crispy pata, pizza and pasta. For dessert, try their sansrival cake.

  • The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay
  • Location: Camp John Hay

Stayed here before and I really like the cozy lobby of this hotel as well as the restaurant. Rooms are spacious too. Food at the restaurant is just okay.

  • G1 Lodge Design Hotel
  • Paladin Hotel
  • Location: Baguio City Proper (near Burnham Park)
  • The Orchard Hotel Baguio

*If you are traveling on a Friday night or over the weekend via Victory Liner, make sure you buy your ticket in advance as the line can get pretty long.  It took us 2.5 hours as chance passenger to ride the bus to Baguio. Otherwise, go to the other bus companies like Genesis and Joy Bus, they also have terminals in Cubao and Pasay.

If you are traveling in group, you may want to consider renting a van to Baguio from Manila, Tagaytay, La Union, Baguio, and more.

Getting around baguio, baguio by tour package.

If you want a hassle-free tour of Baguio, there are several  DOT-accredited tour operators in Baguio. It is best to book a tour with them. If your time is limited,  you can also book a day tour from Manila to Baguio. SEE THE TOURS ABOVE THIS BLOG UNDER BAGUIO TRIP ESSENTIALS.

BAGUIO BY TAXI

Touring by taxi in Baguio is also a good option,  that’s because taxi drivers in Baguio are generally honest, they would use the meter and give you the exact exchange.  The current flag down rate is roughly ₱40 ($0.72) for the first 500 meters, with ₱2 ($0.040) per 100 meter increments thereafter.  Baguio taxi tour rate depends on how many hours you plan to tour Baguio.  Usual rate per day now for hiring a taxi in Baguio for 1 day is ₱3,500 ($62.94) to ₱4,000 ($71.93)  that’s good for 3-4 people and tour is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

BAGUIO BY JEEPNEY

It is possible to get around in Baguio by jeepney. The starting rate for the classic jeepney is ₱13 ($0.23).  This is good if you want to do a DIY Baguio Travel, but make sure you know the Baguio jeepney routes (which is quite confusing) to avoid getting lost.  There’s also the airconditioned jeep now in Baguio but I haven’t tries riding it yet.

You can also hire a jeepney in Baguio to see some of the new Baguio tourist spots, as well as the classic destinations if you are a large group, say group of 10 or more. There’s a jeepney terminal just outside Victory Liner, you may ask the drivers for per day rate.

Bus To Baguio: 2024 Schedules & Fares (JoyBus, Victory Liner, & Solid North)

Looking to ride a bus to Baguio? We’ve got you covered in this post! Here are Victory Liner and JoyBus schedules to help you plan your trip!

In the past, Baguio City was an eight-hour drive. In recent years, it was shortened to six hours, and now, with the right conditions, you can reach Baguio in as fast as three to four hours!

That’s right. You can easily reach Baguio today without any hassle.

Aside from the travel time, the quality of a bus to Baguio has improved, too. There are now new buses going to Baguio, which have a smoother ride and are more pleasant.

Depending on where you are coming from in Manila, Baguio is only four to six hours away. The travel time when it comes to regular buses going to Baguio is around 6 hours. These usually take NLEX or SCTEX and make one or two stops.

But when it comes to a bus to Baguio, there are available executive buses like the JoyBus of Genesis Transport and the First Class Deluxe service of Victory Liner. They don’t make any stops along the way and take the expressway, so the travel time is cut down from 6 hours to only 3 to 4 hours.

If you’re planning on riding a bus to Baguio, here are the fares and schedules of JoyBus and Victory Liner.

JoyBus Schedule & Fares

JoyBus of Genesis Transport is one of the buses to Baguio I usually take when going home to Baguio because the Baguio terminal is closer to the central business district. There are two types of JoyBus buses – Premier and Deluxe . Both buses have a capacity of 28 seats. Each one offers free WiFi, restrooms, water, snacks, and wide legroom.

How To Book A Bus To Baguio Online

I’ve written a step-by-step guide on how to book online for both Solid North, Victory Liner, and JoyBus. You can check them below. Do note that all these buses accept walk-ins but to avoid the hassle of spending hours at the terminal waiting for an available seat, it’s best to book in advance.

  • JoyBus Premier Class: How To Book The Genesis Bus Online
  • Victory Liner Online Booking: Step By Step Guide
  • Solid North Transit P2P Bus: How To Book Online (Manila to Baguio)

Travel Tip: You can also book Victory Liner and Solid North bus tickets online with 12Go Asia .

JoyBus vs Victory Liner First Class Deluxe vs Solid North P2P Buses

JoyBus Deluxe & Premier are mostly the same as the Victory Liner First Class Deluxe bus. But here’s a  comparison between the two to help you decide which one you’d like to ride. I’ve also included two more tables for Solid North’s Regular P2P with aircon bus and their luxury class.

According to Experience

What I like about JoyBus is that they lend their passengers blankets . Each blanket is wrapped in cellophane and washed every after use to ensure that they’re clean. Unlike JoyBus, Victory Liner buses are too cold, especially when you travel at night, so make sure to bring your own blanket if you don’t want to purchase from Victory Liner.

I’ve read comment threads online where people are saying that Victory Liner First Class buses have cleaner restrooms . During my travels, I find that the cleanliness and status of the restrooms depend on the bus unit you’re riding on and who you’re riding with. Some passengers don’t clean up after themselves. Some bus units have better restrooms than others. It all depends.

During holidays and weekends, I choose to travel with Solid North since it has several schedules in a day . This means that most often if you haven’t bought your tickets online, there’s always a seat available. We traveled back in December 30 and there were only four other passengers besides us! Plus, they’re always on time with their schedules. They don’t wait for the bus to be full before traveling.

Traveling to NAIA from Baguio?

If you’re traveling to the NAIA terminals from Baguio, travel via Joybus. They’ll bring you to all the terminals in NAIA.

Bringing Your Pet?

JoyBus allows small/medium breed pets inside the bus as long as they have a diaper and inside a cage/bag carrier. You’ll also need to pay for your pet’s fare since your pet will stay on the chair beside you.

Victory Liner has pet friendly bus schedules . Here are their guidelines when traveling with a pet.

Please be advised of the guidelines provided by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

  • If pet animals are to be loaded on mass transport without having to compromise the safety, health issues, and convenience of other passengers, said pet animals must be put in a cage or animal carrier free from the foul odor.
  • Passenger-owner must ensure that pets wear animal diapers to maintain cleanliness and sanitation at all times during the journey.
  • Dog sizes must be the range of small to medium, as large and giant dogs will not be allowed.
  • Pets placed inside carriers or cages must be beside the passenger-owner and must pay the corresponding fare the same as that of the paying passenger owner per seat occupied.

Good morning, just want to ask if sakto rin ba talaga ung time travel na 6hours from Baguio to Pasay if I will travel during morning to afternoon thru Joy Bus? I’m just worried baka di ako makahabol sa flight ko kung more than 6hours po ung byahe. Thank you for the reply po!

Usually depende po sa traffic sa EDSA. Better kung byabyahe ka po ng earlier para hindi ka maabala.

Hi Jeannie, I know this is long overdue but nonetheless to answer your Q, usually 6hrs is the standard alloted travel time if you’re thinking of riding a PUB.

Hi, I love reading your blogs its very informative! BY the way, we’ll be visiting Baguio this July and I read a lot of blogs saying that it is not advisable to go there because of the rainy season. I’m afraid bc we’ll be going there via Dau terminal and I heard as well that the buses that will arrive there are already crowded. Is that true? And I would like to know as well if how many hours would the travel time from Dau to Baguio?

Hi Paul, yes July is already the rainy season in Baguio. It usually rains every afternoon. If you’re lucky, it will be sunny in the morning and rainy in the afternoon. What’s good about that is that there are lesser crowds during this month. It’s also the best time to do a bit of staycation, and food trip.

If you’re coming from Dau terminal, you can choose to wait for a Victory bus from Manila heading to Baguio, ride the Genesis bus or a van. Travel time via bus is around 4 to 6 hours. Vans take around 4 hours.

hello ask ko lang okay lang magtake risk na magwalk in sa terminal kasi wala yung gustong oras namin sa online booking. anong terminal mas maganda mag abang as.chance passenger

Hi! your vlog is very informative! I’m planning a day tour only can you advice me on where to go best for a Baguio experience? it’s also my first time coming there, I really appreciate your opinions. Thank you more power to you!

' src=

Hi,which Schedule and bus is 3-4hrs travel?Thanx for the response.

All the first class, deluxe, luxury buses (P2P buses – no stopovers). However, the 3-4 hours travel time is usually for late night or early morning trips since there’s no traffic in Manila. 🙂 With the traffic, it usually takes 5 hours.

Baguio City: Basic Information and Brief History

Baguio is a highly urbanized city located in the province of Benguet. It is also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines due to its chilly year-round environment. The city sits 4810 feet (1466 meters) above sea level, and its location is conducive to cultivating different root crops and vegetables.

Baguio City is also abundant in history. During the American Colonial Period in the 1900s, the US Military used Baguio as a hill station. Daniel Burnham, an urban designer, plans the whole city’s distinct layout. Unfortunately, during World War II, the Japanese attacked Camp John Hay, turning the city into ruins.

Currently, Baguio City is one of the most famous tourist spots in the country. But, who could imagine this mountainous city has a lot of historical moments that shaped the Philippines today?

Photo of Microtel in Baguio City

Our Choice: Microtel by Wyndham Baguio City

This is our favorite hotel in Baguio City. Microtel is a three-star hotel that provides outstanding comfort and service to its guest. What we like the most about this place is its location. Microtel is located beside Victory Liner Bus Station and is also accessible to different tourist spots in the city. They also have a complimentary breakfast buffet included in the room package.

Microtel’s rates are slightly expensive, and their standard deluxe room costs around PHP 4,000 a night. But with Agoda, you can book a room online at discounted rates of up to 50% off.  Click this link to see the discounted rates in Microtel.

Baguio City is also best when it comes to food trips. Most restaurants here offer big servings at an affordable price. The servings are so huge that you can share them with friends and family. Here are five of our recommended restaurants and cafes that you should try:

  • Good Taste Restaurant  – Best 24-Hour Restaurant. This food place offers a variety of Filipino Cuisine with huge servings at an affordable price!
  • Oh, My Gulay!  – An artsy place and restaurant located at the heart of Session Road in Baguio.
  • 50’s Diner  – Travel back to the 50s and enjoy the food of the American Era.
  • Baguio Craft Brewery  – Chill at night and have a glass of the best-tasting crafted beers in the city.

Other Information

When is the best month to visit baguio city.

It is best to visit Baguio during December, January, and February. These periods are also the most congested since travelers all over the country want to experience a pleasant cool climate. Furthermore, Baguio City celebrates the Panagbenga Flower Festival annually in February .

Visiting Baguio City during March, April, and May is also good, but it will be slightly warmer than the previous months. Avoid visiting Baguio City from September to November due to heavy rains, and some major highways are impassable because of the increased risk of landslides.

Any additional travel tips in Baguio City?

  • One important keyword:  Follow . Follow your itinerary, the city’s safety standards, and the travel and tour agency.
  • Bring your jackets . The night is colder than you think, and wearing a jacket is an added layer of protection against the city’s cold climate.
  • Always keep yourself hydrated . Baguio City is a high-altitude city, and you might experience altitude sickness if you explore the place on foot. Always bring a water bottle with you to avoid getting altitude sickness.
  • Always bring a small bag . In traveling, you might bring a big 30L to 40L backpack full of clothes and things you need for the following days of your trip. Of course, you will not be getting your heavy bags with you during the tour. Keep your main bag in your hotel room or accommodation. Bringing a small bag helps explore the city without the excess weight.
  • Reservations are king . It’s better to reserve things in advance before any trip or activity. Many travelers visit the city daily, and full accommodation is a common problem. Always book your accommodation in advance, it’s better this way than letting yourselves stay in the street braving the cold night.
  • Have an open mind and be responsible . We are all visitors to this place; be sensitive and respect their culture, values, and norms. Avoid throwing trash and be responsible.
  • If you wish to contact any tourism officials in Baguio City, you can visit their tourism Facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/baguiotourism/ .

Hi po, thank you so much, these will surely help us on our upcoming Baguio Trip…

Just want to ask lang po, if we’re planning for a 4D3N – 4 pax trip to Baguio+Sagada, do you think its better to book for a joiners trip going to Sagada? cheaper po ba if ganun? ehehehe salamuchhhhhh.

' src=

hi. what time po open ang cafe in the sky?

' src=

The last time we visited Cafe in the Sky was in 2017. We arrived at 5 AM and the cafe was already opened. I don’t know if it’s still the same today since that area is closed to the public. Only residents of Baguio City are allowed to enter the area.

Have a safe trip!

Hi, totoo bang mahirap ang parking area sa mga tourist attraction? My friend told me na mas better iwan ang kotse sa accomodation then mag-taxi nalang?

Hi Carlo, Yes! The traffic is even worse during the holiday season. Most tourists keep their vehicles in their accommodation and ride a cab instead. Pero, it depends on the tourist attraction na pupuntahan ninyo. If you are planning to visit the most crowded places like (Wright Park, Mines View, Botanical Garden, and Session Road), I advise na mag-taxi na lang kayo. For places like BenCab and Strawberry Farm, you can bring your vehicle since medyo malayo na mga ito and baka mapa-mahal pa kayo if mag taxi kayo. Enjoy your upcoming vacation in Baguio!

Hello! True bang di na need ng QTP/Visita requirements pag nagpuntang Baguio?

Hi Key, I asked the staff from local Baguio Tourism Office and said that QTP is still required when visiting Baguio City. However, based on the experience of my fellow blogger on his recent trip, they are not implementing the QTP strictly anymore. To be safe, just apply for a QTP in case they look for it.

Strawberry ice cream is really something that no one should miss when visiting La Trinidad farms.

Di ko knows yung Cogcoga. Akala ko bundok lang nandoon.

It was an unexpected turn haha. We discovered a high-altitude community filled with joyous and enthusiastic people 🙂

Baguio will always be my second favorite city after Legazpi City, Albay where I grew up.

Nakakatuwa kasi Good Taste din ang una kong hinahanap pagbaba ko pa lang ng bus sa VLiner. Fresh and generous!

Nakacheck in na din ako sa Bed and Bath kaso I really don’t prefer dormitory styles at di ko bet CR nila. Though it’s cheap and very accessible sa down town.Pero last time we were there to ask tariffs, pogi yung front desk lols!

I went to Legazpi City last 2011, I think it’s time to revisit your home city again 🙂

VICTORY LINER Bus Schedules for Manila, Baguio, Olongapo, Cagayan, Isabela, Pangasinan

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Now that Metro Manila and many other areas in the country are under Alert Level 1, more people are planning out-of-town trips just in time for the summer season.

Some of the most popular destinations in Luzon can be found in the north. From the beaches of Zambales up to the highlands of Baguio, this huge chunk of land offers various experiences for tourists. The best part, journeys are much easier and travel times much shorter, as most key places in the region are interconnected via a network of expressways.

If you’re among the travelers who are finally ready to scratch that travel itch (after over two years of waiting), consider a trip to the North! Victory Liner is one of the biggest provincial bus companies in the country, operating several routes from Metro Manila to Northern Luzon destinations and back. Below are the schedules of its various bus routes.

Under Alert Level 1, intrazonal and internal travels are allowed without restrictions regarding age and comorbidities. Public transport are also allowed to operate with a full seating capacity as well. That said, some destinations still implement their respective safety policies, so always double check the updated guidelines and protocols of your origin and destination to be absolutely sure. Get in touch with the LGU for the latest guidelines including the travel requirements you would need to prepare prior to your trip.

Not recommended for day trippers, the schedule is not suitable still need to go to this ridiculous triage before you can on especially if there’s too many queuing up, better alternative is Tagaytay which is less tedious and you’ll have more time within the day than going to Baguio, will only go back there when things are back to normal.

South Carolina women's basketball schedule 2024-25 includes trip to UCLA for potential top-5 matchup

COLUMBIA — Just like Led Zeppelin , South Carolina women's basketball is "going to California."

UCLA women's basketball announced Monday that the Gamecocks will travel to Los Angeles on Nov. 24 for a nonconference Sunday showdown. The game time in Pauley Pavilion has not yet been announced.

In ESPN 's "way too early top-25 poll" from May, South Carolina was ranked No. 1 overall, with UCLA coming up at No. 5.

The last time these two teams met in the regular season was in 2022 also around Thanksgiving, when UCLA traveled to Columbia. The Gamecocks won 73-64. Later that season , South Carolina beat UCLA in the Sweet 16, 59-43 in March 2023.

The 2024-25 UCLA Bruins are led by spark plug Kiki Rice, a sophomore from Maryland and 6-foot-7 Lauren Betts. Rice was one of three players featured in ESPN's docuseries, " Full Court Press " that featured South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso.

The Bruins added Texas A&M transfer Janiah Barker, who averaged 12.2 games as a sophomore last season. In April, Charlisse Leger-Walker from Washington State announced she was transferring to UCLA for her fifth year. She averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last year. Timea Gardiner left Oregon State and committed to UCLA in May.

UCLA lost to LSU in the Sweet 16, finishing the year with a 27-7 record. The Bruins were a No. 2 seed in the tournament.

The Gamecocks landed Arkansas transfer Maryam Dauda a 6-foot-4 forward who averaged 10 points last season. South Carolina has three freshmen for the 2024-25 season: Joyce Edwards, Madisen McDaniel and Adhel Tac.

What you should know before you set sail

Reservations are required to board the ferry. Passengers can reserve a spot by booking online or calling customer service during normal hours.

Reservations require the length of your vehicle if it is not a standard car, truck or van; the number of passengers including the driver; and your credit card number. An email and phone number will be noted for contact in case of booking changes or other issues.

Check-in begins 45 minutes to one hour before departure, and reservations may be forfeited if check-in is not completed 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Stand-by tickets will be available at this time.

Bookings can be rescheduled free of charge, but if canceled, a nonrefundable cancelation fee of $6 per one-way and $12 per round-trip booking will be imposed. No-shows will result in the cancelation of the crossing and a non-refundable no-show fee of $26 will be charged.

Paid, unused reservations may be applied to future trips, with some restrictions. Ferry tickets are valid for two years from the date of purchase.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry restrictions

Before you board, make sure you have all needed items and none of the restricted ones.

A government-issued photo ID is required for all drivers and foot passengers over 14 years old. Foreign travelers must present a valid passport or international driver’s license.

Children under age 14 must be accompanied by someone at least 14, and that person must present a school ID, passport state ID or driver's license. A maximum of two children between the ages of 2 and 13 can travel with an unaccompanied passenger between 14 and 18 years old.

Passengers are prohibited from bringing opened alcoholic beverages on or off the ferry by Delaware and New Jersey law. Alcoholic beverages sold on each vessel and or in each terminal must be discarded before boarding or disembarking. Unopened beverages are allowed but must be kept stored.

The ferry and its terminals and surrounding areas have been tobacco-free since 2017. No smoking or other forms of tobacco are allowed. This includes vaping, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco or smoking-related products.

Pets are permitted on the ferry but must stay on outside decks or in vehicles. Passengers with pets cannot bring them inside the cabin near food areas. If restroom or food court facilities are needed, contact a crew member for assistance.

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry notes that “pets must be sociable when on passenger decks and remain on a leash or in an appropriate carrier,” or the owner will be asked to return the pet to the vehicle. All vehicles with pet passengers must have the windows open for air.

Is parking available at the terminals?

Parking is available for free at both the Cape May and Lewes terminals.

Cars can be left in the ferry parking lot overnight as long as license plate numbers are registered at the ticket counter in the terminal or with the police after hours in the police building in either city.

There is no winter shuttle to Cape May, but seasonal shuttles are available. In Lewes, the DART Route 204 bus picks up and drops off in front of the Lewes terminal.

Ferry amenities

The ferries have various amenities including internet service and food and drink options available for passengers.

The Lewes Terminal features Grain on the Rocks, a great dinner option once you complete your round trip, while the Cape May Terminal has Café 64 in colder months and more dining options from Exit 0 in season.

Ferry vessels have indoor and outdoor seating, along with elevators to help get between decks. Table, bench seating and reclining seats are available indoors. Adirondack chairs, wooden benches, Lido Bar seating and metal chairs and tables are available outdoors.

What to do in Lewes

In Lewes, there are plenty of shops, historic sites and nature views to enjoy and lots of places to eat your way through.

A bike trail is across the street from the ferry terminal and local eateries such as Grain On the Rocks and Crooked Hammock Brewery are nearby.

Local beaches are a short drive or bike ride away, and seasonal events and beer rides are always on tap.

What to do in Cape May

While in Cape May , you can visit Cape May Point State Park, the Cape May Lighthouse, Washington Street Mall, the Lobster House, Cape May Brewery, Beach Plum Farm and much more.

Cape May (and Lewes) have electric bikes available for rental during your trip that can help expand your exploration of the area and give you a workout!

More Cape May area attractions include the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation, Cape May County Park and Zoo, Willow Creek Winery and Farm, Emlen Physick Estate (a historic Victorian house and museum) and many annual events.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry upgrades

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has been running since its first voyage on July 1, 1964.

The ferry has three vessels, with a capacity of 100 vehicles and about 800 people each, each the length of a football field.

Although the ferry has been improved throughout the years, the Delaware River and Bay Authority announced in 2023 that the current vessels are set to retire as a new fleet awaits the water.

The proposed fleet will have four vessels that are smaller than the ferry’s current boats. Each new vessel will have a capacity of 75 vehicles and about 330 passengers each, according to a spokesperson for the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

Although the new boats will be smaller, a fourth vessel will allow for greater schedule flexibility. The Delaware River and Bay Authority expects the new fleet to be more environmentally friendly, meet or beat the current total trip times and improve customer and crew amenities.

The $320 million project will be completed in phases, with the first new vessel expected to arrive in late 2026. Plans have not been finalized yet, but a public information session was held last June that considered vessel profile options, discussed plans and reviewed the project timeline.

The three most recent design layouts were voted on by attendees, with profile B coming out as the winner. Profile C was a close second, followed by profile A. More information about the master plan and profile options can be found on www.cmlf.com/marine-master-plan.

Cowboys announce when team will fly to Oxnard for training camp

Josh sanchez | jun 5, 2024.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott (4) at training camp.

The Dallas Cowboys are currently holding minicamp at The Star in Frisco, Texas, but the start of training camp in Oxnard, California is just around the corner.

Training camps across the league will begin in mid-to-late-July, but exact dates have yet to be announced.

We do know, however, when the team will head out west.

RELATED :  Dallas Cowboys 2024 TV schedule: Dates, times, & channels for NFL regular season

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports that the Cowboys will fly to Oxnard on Tuesday, July 23. The tentative plan is to hold the first training camp practice on Thursday, July 25.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) signs autographs following the day of training camp.

Dallas opens its preseason just over two weeks later against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, August 11.

They will then make the short trip to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Raiders, before returning home to host the Los Angeles Chargers and presumably finish out training camp at The Star.

Of course, everyone will be watching whether the team can agree to a contract extension with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott, or both. Everyone will have their fingers crossed.

Biden honors US war dead with a cemetery visit ending a French trip that served as a rebuke to Trump

President Joe Biden has closed out his trip to France by paying his respects at an American military cemetery that Donald Trump skipped when he was president

BELLEAU, France — President Joe Biden closed out his trip to France by paying his respects at an American military cemetery that Donald Trump notably skipped when he was president, hoping his final stop Sunday helped draw the stakes of the November election in stark relief.

Before returning to the United States, Biden honored America’s war dead at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery about an hour outside Paris. He placed a wreath at the cemetery chapel before an expanse of white headstones marking the final resting place of more than 2,200 U.S. soldiers who fought in World War I.

It was a solemn end to five days in which Trump was an unspoken yet unavoidable presence. On the surface, the trip marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day and celebrated the alliance between the United States and France. But during an election year when Trump has called into question fundamental understandings about America’s global role, Biden has embraced his Republican predecessor — and would-be successor — as a latent foil.

Every ode to the transatlantic partnership was a reminder that Trump could upend those relationships. Each reference to democracy stood a counterpoint to his rival’s efforts to overturn a presidential election. The myriad exhortations to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia created a contrast with Trump’s skepticism about providing U.S. assistance.

Biden’s paeans to the struggle between democracy and autocracy drew plaudits in Europe, where the prospect of a return to Trump’s turbulent reign has sparked no shortage of anxiety. But it remains to be seen how the message will resonate with American voters, as Biden’s campaign struggles to connect the dire warnings the Democratic president so often delivers about his rival with people’s daily concerns.

The visit to the cemetery served as a moment to underscore the contrast once more.

“It’s the same story,” Biden said. “America showed up. America showed up to stop the Germans. America showed up to make sure that they did not prevail. And America shows up when we’re needed just like our allies show for us.”

During a 2018 trip to France, Trump skipped plans to go to the cemetery, a decision that the White House blamed on weather at the time. However, subsequent reports said that Trump told aides he didn’t want to go because he viewed the dead soldiers as “suckers” and “losers.” Trump has denied the comments, although they were later corroborated by his chief of staff at the time, John Kelly.

Trump’s purported insults have become a regular feature of Biden’s campaign speeches, including during an April rally in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“These soldiers were heroes, just as every American who has served this nation,” Biden said. “Believing otherwise, that alone is disqualifying for someone to seek this office.”

Biden ignored a direct question about Trump at the cemetery but said it was important to visit the hallowed ground. “The idea that I would come to Normandy and not make the short trip here to pay tribute,” he added, his voice trailing off as if to express disbelief.

Trump, at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, said Sunday after Biden had left France that the president’s performance overseas was “terrible” and embarrassing, though Trump did not cite anything in particular. “This is not a representative for what used to be the greatest country,” he told his supporters, adding that under Biden “we are a nation in major decline and we’re going to stop it immediately.”

Maura Sullivan, a former Marine officer who served on the American Battle Monuments Commission under President Barack Obama, said Biden’s visit would “set the example, and do what a president should do.” Now an official with the New Hampshire Democratic Party, Sullivan said that “voters can draw their own conclusions” from that.

Biden’s trip was full of emotional moments, and the president grew heavy-eyed after meeting with World War II veterans. A 21-gun salute cast eerie smoke over 9,388 white marble headstones at the Normandy American Cemetery.

“This has been the most remarkable trip that I’ve ever made,” Biden said on Saturday night, his last in Paris before returning to the U.S.

At Aisne-Marne, Biden said the trip “surprised me how much it awakened my sense of why it’s so valuable to have these alliances. Why it’s so critical. That’s the way you stop wars, not start wars.”

His remarks over the last few days were also freighted with political overtones.

On Thursday at Normandy anniversary ceremonies, Biden said D-Day served a reminder that alliances make the United States stronger, calling it “a lesson that I pray we Americans never forget.” He also highlighted how the war effort drew on immigrants, women and people of color who were too often overlooked by history.

Then on Friday, he went to Pointe du Hoc, a spot on the coast where Army Rangers scaled cliffs to overcome Nazi defenses on D-Day that was also the site in 1984 of one of President Ronald Reagan’s most memorable speeches about the struggles between the West and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

By following in an iconic Republican’s footsteps, Biden honed his appeal to traditional conservatives who are often frustrated by Trump’s isolationist vision. Biden issued a call for Americans to protect democracy like the Rangers who scaled the cliffs, a message that synced with campaign rhetoric that paints his election opponent as an existential threat to U.S. values.

While Biden was in France, his campaign announced that it had hired the onetime chief of staff to former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger to lead outreach to GOP voters. Kinzinger clashed with Trump’s foreign policy and efforts to overturn the last presidential election.

At Pointe du Hoc, Biden said the Army Rangers “fought to vanquish a hateful ideology in the ’30s and ’40s. Does anyone doubt they wouldn’t move heaven and earth to vanquish hateful ideologies of today?”

Trump has argued that the U.S. needs to devote more attention to its own problems and less to foreign alliances and entanglements. He has also routinely played down the importance of American partnerships, suggesting the U.S. could abandon its treaty commitments to defend European allies if they don’t pay enough for their own defenses.

Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian who wrote a book about Pointe du Hoc and Reagan’s speech, said Biden “had big shoes to step into” by choosing the same location.

Biden’s speech “didn’t equal Reagan’s in grandeur, nor could it,” Brinkley said. Still, he said Biden “said the right words about why democracy matters.”

Paul Begala, a veteran Democratic strategist, said it could help Biden politically “to stand where Reagan stood.”

He noted that Biden is struggling with younger voters but appears to be gaining strength among older ones who may be more receptive to reminders of Reagan’s speech four decades ago.

“He needs a lot of Reagan Republicans to offset his challenges with younger voters,” he said.

Biden’s trip was also punctuated by the pomp of a state visit in Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron arranged a ceremony at the Arc du Triomphe, where four fighter jets flew overhead, and hosted a banquet at the Elysee presidential palace.

“United we stand, divided we fall,” Macron said in toasting Biden. “Allied we are, and allied we will stay.”

Overall, Biden’s visit had a slower pace than other foreign trips. The 81-year-old president had no public events on his first day in Paris after arriving on an overnight flight, and didn’t hold a press conference with reporters, as is customary. John Kirby, a national security spokesman, said that was necessary to prepare “in advance of the weighty engagements” during subsequent days.

“There’s a lot on the calendar,” he said.

Still, it was a contrast to Macron’s tendency to offer prestigious guests an intense schedule with a mix of official meetings, business talks, cultural events and private dinners at fancy restaurants.

When the 46-year-old French leader hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping last month, the two-day agenda was crammed with activities including a trip to the Pyrenees Mountains near the border with Spain where Macron spent time as a child.

Associated Press writer Jonathan J. Cooper in Las Vegas and Sylvie Corbet contributed to this report.
