Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch Ethan Hunt and the rest of the IMF attempt to save the world, picking up from the cliffhanger ending of 2023’s Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning . The eighth movie in the acclaimed action franchise will be a direct sequel to the previous film for the first time in the series’ history, meaning fans of secret agents, Tom Cruise , and epic stunts will get to see how the story concludes when the as-yet-untitled film opens in the spring of next year. Before then, here’s everything you need to know about Mission: Impossible 8 . And don’t worry — this website will not self-destruct.
What Is the New Mission: Impossible Movie Called?
Originally, this upcoming film was meant to be titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 . However, that subtitle has been scrapped. Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the movies, announced the title change in October 2023 along with the news that the movie’s release date was being delayed a year. The reason for this has not been explicitly stated, but Dead Reckoning — which you can retroactively strip of its “Part 1” moniker — underperformed at the box office when it came out in July 2023, and it’s possible the eighth Mission: Impossible is getting a different title because they don’t want to scare away potential audiences by explicitly marking it as the Part 2 to a Part 1 that moviegoers largely skipped.
Presumably, the next Mission: Impossible will get a cool subtitle before it comes out, as the last movie to simply be numbered was Mission: Impossible III . What that will be remains to be seen.
When Will It Be Released?
The eighth Mission: Impossible movie was originally supposed to have been shot, edited, and released years ago, with the original premiere date being August of 2022. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both it and Dead Reckoning were significantly delayed. Mission: Impossible 8 was supposed to come out in June of 2024, but has since been delayed again to its current date of May 23, 2025.
This latest delay came as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which shut down production of the film in the summer of 2023. Filming resumed the following March.
Like all the previous Mission: Impossible entries, the eighth movie will premiere exclusively in theaters.
Who’s Directing It?
Christopher McQuarrie , the director who took Mission: Impossible to new heights starting with Rogue Nation , the fifth film in the franchise, and continued with Fallout and Dead Reckoning after that, returns for the eighth movie. As with Dead Reckoning , McQuarrie co-wrote the movie with Erik Jendresen .
Who’s in It?
Tom Cruise will, of course, return to play IMF agent extraordinaire Ethan Hunt, who he first portrayed in 1996 when the original Mission: Impossible hit theaters. He’ll be 62 when the eighth Mission: Impossible movie premieres, and it’s possible that it will be his final appearance as the character, some 30 years later.
He’ll be joined by several returning cast members, including Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames as his fellow IMF agents Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell, respectively. Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Grace, a pickpocket who becomes embroiled in the action and eventually joins the IMF at the end of Dead Reckoning . Esai Morales returns as Dead Reckoning’ s primary villain, Gabriel, a man working on behalf of the all-powerful A.I. “Entity” that could doom the world. Also returning are Vanessa Kirby as black market arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis; Frederick Schmidt as her brother Zola; Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, a US Intelligence agent who spent the last movie trying to track Ethan Hunt down; Greg Tarzan Davis as his partner Degas; and Pom Klementieff as Paris, an assassin who defected from Gabriel’s employ after Ethan spared her life. Henry Czerny once more plays CIA director Eugene Kittridge, who made his return to the franchise in Dead Reckoning decades after playing the character in the first Mission: Impossible .
Mark Gatiss and Charles Parnell are reported to reprise their small roles as the heads of the NSA and NRO, and Mariela Garriga will play a woman who appeared in mysterious flashbacks linking Ethan and Gabriel. Hopefully, this next movie will explain how they know each other.
Amusingly, Rolf Saxon , last seen in the franchise as hapless CIA agent William Donloe, who was transferred to Alaska as punishment for letting Ethan Hunt break in during the first Mission: Impossible , will make his return to the franchise.
Of course, there will be new additions to the cast, as well as returning actors from Dead Reckoning . Parks & Rec’ s Nick Offerman plays Sydney, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; The Iron Claw’ s Holt McCallany plays Bernstein, the Secretary of Defense; and Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has an as-yet unrevealed role. Katy O’Brian , Janet McTeer , Lucy Tulugarjuk , and Tramell Tillman are also slated to appear.
What Happened in the Last Mission: Impossible Film?
In Dead Reckoning , Ethan and his team were on the hunt for two high-tech keys that were the only means to control a rogue, near-omnipotent AI system known as the Entity. Every organization and nation on Earth — including the United States — wants to be able to control the Entity, prompting Ethan to go rogue in an attempt to destroy the AI rather than risk letting it fall into anybody’s hands.
Ethan’s struggle to obtain the two keys to the Entity has him cross paths with Grace, a talented thief who is tasked with stealing the keys without fully knowing the implications. Gabriel, a man who has some sort of a past with Ethan, is looking for the keys, too, and he’s working directly for the Entity on its behalf. In the struggle for the keys during a botched sale at black-market arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis’ swanky Venice Party, Ilsa Faust ( Rebecca Ferguson ), former M16 agent and Ethan’s ally and possible love interest, is killed.
In a last-ditch attempt to get both keys, Grace, now working with Ethan, impersonates Alanna on the Orient Express. Though this plan — and the train, literally — goes off the rails, Ethan is able to take possession of both keys from Gabriel, while the villain escapes. Ethan, Benji, and Luther are still going rogue, but Grace announces her intention to properly join the IMF. Meanwhile, Paris, an assassin who betrays Gabriel after Ethan saves her life, manages to tell Ethan what the keys to the Entity unlock. The AI’s intelligence is housed inside a sunken next-generation Russian submarine called the Sevastopol. Ethan’s next impossible mission? To find the Sevastopol, get inside it, and use the keys to destroy the Entity for good — unless Gabriel or anybody else stops him first.
And What Will Happen in the Next One?
There hasn’t been an official synopsis for the eighth Mission: Impossible movie, but given that it’s the first direct sequel in franchise history, we have a decent idea of the plot. Ethan Hunt and his allies will attempt to defeat Gabriel and destroy the Entity once and for all. The final showdown will likely take place aboard the sunken Sevastopol, though since Ethan has no idea where the wreck is, discovering that information should drive the early plot.
We will learn more about the plot once official images, trailers, and of course a synopsis are released.
Will There Be More Mission: Impossible Movies After This?
Dead Reckoning and this upcoming film were originally billed as a grand finale for the Ethan Hunt character. It seemed likely that the M:I franchise would continue in some form, but this could have been Cruise’s farewell. However, in June 2022, McQuarrie told Fandango that “Parts 1 & 2 are not the end of the series, and they already have ideas for what comes next.” Cruise similarly didn’t close the door during the press tour, even going so far as to say he hoped to continue making Mission: Impossible movies well into old age. Now, granted, this was before Dead Reckoning underperformed at the box office, but if the eighth Mission: Impossible is a hit, don’t be surprised if Ethan Hunt rides again.
How Long Will Mission: Impossible 8 Be?
The runtime for the eighth Mission: Impossible movie has not yet been revealed, as they have not finished making the movie. For comparison’s sake, Dead Reckoning was 163 minutes long — the longest in the franchise by a significant margin, as the rest of the movies are more or less in the 130-minute range.
Are there any trailers for it?
There are no trailers for Mission: Impossible 8 yet because they are not done making the movie.
However, it seems likely that we’ve gotten a peek at some of the action. At the 2022 CinemaCon, the premiere of the first Dead Reckoning trailer was preceded by a clip of Cruise chilling on a biplane, introducing the trailer, and then jumping off. He and director McQuarrie were filming in South Africa at the time, and since no sequence like that appeared in Dead Reckoning , consider this the closest thing we have to a sneak preview.
And Is Tom Cruise Still Doing His Own Stunts for It?
Is that a serious question? Of course Tom Cruise, who famously rode a motorcycle off a cliff for Dead Reckoning , is doing his own stunts for the sequel. Please see above.
Mission: Impossible 8 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on May 23, 2025.

Your mission — should you choose to accept it — is to head to theaters on July 14, 2023 for the long-awaited (and COVID-delayed) seventh installment of Tom Cruise ’s “Mission: Impossible” film franchise.
“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” marks Cruise’s latest outing as Ethan Hunt, an agent of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), who embarks on an operation which — as the title suggests — promises to be his most dangerous yet.

In the behind-the-scenes clip, which first debuted for theater owners at CinemaCon in 2021 , Cruise, McQuarrie and the film’s crew demonstrated how they pulled off a stunt where the actor drives a motorcycle up a ramp and off a cliff, leading into a base jump, which was a highlight of the movie’s first trailer.
So excited to share what we’ve been working on. #MissionImpossible pic.twitter.com/rIyiLzQdMG — Tom Cruise (@TomCruise) December 19, 2022
“This is far and away the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted,” Cruise said of the stunt, which is billed as the “biggest in cinema history.”
To train for the complicated sequence, Cruise skydived over 500 times and did about 13,000 motocross jumps.
“I have to get so good at this that there’s just no way I can miss my marks,” Cruise explained, reinforcing just how perilous this all is.
“Coming up with the stunt is just one of the technical challenges,” McQuarrie added. “The other is putting a camera in a place where you can see where Tom is doing it — finding the right lens, the right platform, the right medium. Even two years ago, the cameras didn’t exist that would allow us to do what we’re trying to do today.”
Here’s everything you need to know about “Dead Reckoning Part One”:
What does “Dead Reckoning” mean?
The seventh “Mission: Impossible” movie’s title was officially revealed at CinemaCon in April 2021 , and fans immediately wondered what the mysterious phrase might signal for Ethan and the IMF team. “Dead reckoning” is a navigational term, McQuarrie noted in an interview with Empire magazine , where he explained the connection between the phrase and the plot.
“There are many things emerging from Ethan’s past,” the filmmaker told the magazine. “[Dead reckoning] means you’re picking a course based solely on your last known position and that becomes quite the metaphor not only for Ethan, but several characters.”
The film’s first trailer gave a glimpse into exactly which ghosts from Ethan’s past might reappear, beginning with Henry Czerny, who reprises his role as former IMF director Eugene Kittridge for the first time in more than 25 years.
“Your days of fighting for the so-called ‘Greater Good’ are over,” Cherny’s Kittridge tells Hunt at the top of the teaser, which previews all the death-defying action sequences to come.
As the tensions builds, Kittridge continues, serving Hunt with an ultimatum: “This is our chance to control the truth. The concepts of right and wrong, for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. It never did. You need to pick a side.”
Cruise has starred in and produced all the “Mission: Impossible” movies, which are based on the 1966 television series created by Bruce Geller and have grossed over $3.5 billion at the box office. While the sequels (2000’s “Mission: Impossible II” and 2006’s “Mission: Impossible III”) used standard-fare Roman numerals to distinguish them, the Brad Bird-helmed fourth film, 2011’s “Ghost Protocol,” bucked that tradition. Then, McQuarrie took over the franchise with the fifth and sixth films, subtitled “Rogue Nation” and “Fallout,” respectively.
“M:I-7” and “M:I-8” were announced In January 2019 with plans to film the movies back-to-back, but the COVID-19 pandemic delays and Cruise’s promotional duties for “Top Gun: Maverick” ultimately scuttled those plans. “Dead Reckoning Part Two,” as it will presumably be called, is currently filming and is scheduled for release on June 28, 2024.
Who’s in the cast?
“Dead Reckoning Part One” follows the events of “Fallout,” where Hunt and his IMF crew saved the world from a nuclear apocalypse amid a series of double-crosses, including a memorable turn from Henry Cavill (as CIA assassin August Walker). The movie was the highest-grossing entry in the franchise, earning nearly $800 million at the box office.
Also returning from “Fallout” are Vanessa Kirby — Alanna Mitsopolis, a black market arms dealer also known as the White Widow — and Frederick Schmidt, as her brother Zola. The siblings are in the family business: Their mother is Max (Vanessa Redgrave), the world-class smuggler Ethan tangoed with in the 1996 original.
Among the spy thriller’s new players are Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff and Shea Whigham, who all feature prominently in the film’s first footage. Atwell plays a mysterious new character named Grace, while Morales serves as “Dead Reckoning’s” primary villain.
In March 2021, McQuarrie announced that the cast would also include Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell and Mark Gatiss. Rounding out the ensemble are Greg Tarzan Davis (who appeared with Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick”) and Mariela Garriga, both in undisclosed roles. Joining the ensemble for “Mission: Impossible 8” are Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman and Janet McTeer.
COVID Delays
“Dead Reckoning Part One” was initially scheduled to debut on July 23, 2021 before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the film almost exactly two years. Its release date has changed four times.
The production was one of the first major studio films to resume after the pandemic struck, but its globe-trotting shoot proved to be challenging as COVID cases waned and then surged in many of the half-dozen countries where the movie was set to shoot. As the production pivoted locations, it also shut down approximately seven times, and the budget ballooned to $290 million, which far surpassed the $190 million spent on “Fallout.”
While the cost-increases were unavoidable given the circumstances, Cruise also became the champion of COVID-safety on set in December 2020 after an audio clip leaked to the press of him chastising crew members on location in the U.K. for not adhering to the protocols.
As first reported by The Sun , after Cruise saw two crew members standing too close to one another in front of a computer screen, he told the crew: “We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. Because they believe in us and what we’re doing. I’m on the phone with every fucking studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherfuckers. I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!”
While the clip was controversial due to Cruise’s obvious frustration, George Clooney was among Cruise’s defenders, telling Howard Stern (via E! Online) that the actor “didn’t overreact because it is a problem.”
Does this mark the end of the line for Ethan?
When news broke that “Dead Reckoning” was planned to be an epic two-part extravaganza, audiences couldn’t help but be reminded of the end of the “Harry Potter,” “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” franchises, which all ended with two-part finales.
In February, sources told Variety that the two films were designed “as a sendoff for Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character,” but filmmakers will neither confirm nor deny that this is his swan song.
“I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is actually true,” McQuarrie said when asked directly about the future of the action franchise during an appearance on the “Light the Fuse” podcast.
He added: “You learn to ignore it and laugh at it. In today’s world, you wait 17 minutes and another news cycle will sweep it away.”
Our estimation?
As long as Cruise keeps bringing in the box office bacon, it stands to reason that the impossible missions can — and just might — continue.
… Should he choose to accept them.

It has been more than 25 years since the first Mission: Impossible film hit theaters. The spy series has only grown more popular over the years, as evidenced by the sixth installment, Mission: Impossible - Fallout , becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise. Mission: Impossible has enjoyed an incredible lead in Tom Cruise, whose hard work has gained him recognition as one of the world's greatest movie stars.
Update October 27, 2023: This article has been updated following the release of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and the recent delay and title change of Mission: Impossible 8.
The franchise originally showed no signs of stopping, but after the disappointing box office of Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One and the next entry in the franchise being delayed out of the summer movie season of 2024 into 2025, the franchise might be calling it a day soon. But with more than 25 years of Mission: Impossible films, it can be overwhelming for a newcomer to keep track of them all. Whether you're new to the franchise or have been a lifelong fan, here's a handy list of all Mission: Impossible movies in chronological and release order.

The film that started it all, Mission: Impossible , was directed by Brian De Palma , the director behind Carrie , Scarface , and The Untouchables . The film introduced Cruise as Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt, who was framed for the murder of the rest of his team. It was the first Mission: Impossible film that featured the iconic sequence of Ethan descending into a vault, just barely avoiding touching the floor that would have resulted in catastrophic failure.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
The fourth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Ghost Protocol harked back to the franchise's beginnings by having Ethan blamed for another crime he did not commit. Following a mission gone wrong, the U.S. President initiated "Ghost Protocol," which ordered the immediate shutdown of the Impossible Missions Force. Ethan formed a team with Benji and new member William Brandt ( played by Jeremy Renner ) in spite of the shutdown, desperate to clear their names and prevent a nuclear war.

Marketing for the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible series saw IMF's most dangerous mission yet as Ethan comes face to face with new enemies, and a weapon that threatens the very future of the human race. Henry Czerny has reprised his role as former IMF director Eugene Kittridge after having been absent from the franchise since the first film. Vanessa Kirby has reprised her role from Mission: Impossible - Fallout as Alanna Mitsopolis / White Widow, with new cast members including Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is available for purchase and rental on PVOD.
Mission: Impossible 8
The 8th entry in the long running Mission Impossible franchise. Starring Tom Cruise and Vanessa Kirby.
Paramount originally scheduled the release of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two for Summer 2024. However, in view of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors strike, like several other long-awaited sequels , the expected release date has been pushed back to May 23, 2025. The film also reportedly will not be called Dead Reckoning Part Two and, as of this moment, is just being referred to as Mission: Impossible 8 . Variety previously reported that the film would be a "sendoff for Cruise's Ethan Hunt character," however, in June 2023, director Christopher McQuarrie told Fandango that the series would not end with Dead Reckoning (via Games Radar ).

There is a very exciting future ahead for the Mission: Impossible franchise. While fans are used to seeing a new installment from the blockbuster series every few years, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has been cooking up an extreme treat for the next two chapters and has been filming them back-to-back. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is set to blow our minds in the year 2023, and the direct sequel, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 , will be coming out about 12 months later. Obviously there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the big sequel that is Mission: Impossible 8 , and one of them is the fantastic ensemble cast that has been put together.
Featuring a mix of actors who both are and aren’t in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 , Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 has brought together a terrific group of stars, and we’ve assembled the list of confirmed names below for your perusal.
What, did you expect that Ethan Hunt would die in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 ? While we don’t know the details of the plot of Mission: Impossible 7 , we do know that the lead character will survive and be back for the sequel. Tom Cruise is one of only two actors who have appeared in every installment of this film franchise, the other being…
Ving Rhames
While Ving Rhames ’ Luther Stickell only showed up for a cameo at the end of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol , his prominent role in the franchise has been stable ever since – with key roles to play in Rogue Nation and Fallout . We don’t know what he’ll be getting up to in Dead Reckoning – Part 1 , but we do know that Luther will be by Ethan Hunt’s side in the aftermath that is depicted in Part 2 .
Henry Czerny
Mission: Impossible fans haven’t seen Eugene Kittridge since Brian De Palma’s franchise starter back in 1996, but he’s back in a big way now, set to play a key role in both halves of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning . Henry Czerny is back in the role decades after his original appearance. Since the first film in the Tom Cruise-led series, Czerny has been a part of some notable and popular movies, with two standouts being a part of the horror genre: Scott Derrickson ’s The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Ready Or Not . He is also part of the cast of Scream 6 .
Having not been in the first two Mission: Impossible movies, Simon Pegg ’s history with the franchise doesn’t go back quite as far as Tom Cruise’s and Ving Rhames’, but he has left a major impact on the films and has made Benji Dunn a fan favorite character. The mask loving tech wiz has been a part of Ethan Hunt’s adventures since Mission: Impossible III , and he will be back by the super spy’s side for both halves of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning .
Rebecca Ferguson
It used to be the case that the Mission: Impossible movies would rotate out its female leads – with Emmanuelle Béart, Thandiwe Newton , Maggie Q, and Paula Patton each only appearing in one movie, despite their characters surviving the blockbuster action. Rebecca Ferguson finally ended that streak following her debut in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation . Following her stellar introduction, MI6 operative Ilsa Faust returned in Fallout , and there is every expectation that she will be a prominent figure in everything that plays out across both halves of the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning duology.

Vanessa Kirby
Alanna Mitsopolis a.k.a. The White Widow was introduced as a mysterious gray-area character in Mission: Impossible – Fallout – with the extra twist added that she is the daughter of Max, the arms dealer played by Vanessa Redgrave in the first movie. Vanessa Kirby, whose notable credits also include The Crown , Hobbs & Shaw , and Pieces Of A Woman , confirmed to Glamour in February 2020 that she was reprising her character in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 , and the expectation is that she will be in Part 2 as well.
Hayley Atwell
Of course, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 ’s cast isn’t wholly filled with returning stars, as there are plenty of fresh faces getting involved as well. Hayley Atwell is best known for her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – having played Peggy Carter in the Captain America movies and starred in her own show, Agent Carter – and soon fans will get to see her as part of another big action-centric franchise. Her role in Part 2 has been confirmed by Deadline , and a post on the actor’s personal Instagram page suggests that she will be playing a character named Grace.
Esai Morales
Esai Morales is best known for his work on the small screen, with small screen credits including NYPD Blue , Criminal Minds , Ozark , and Chicago P.D. , NCIS: Los Angeles , and Titans , but he’s getting some blockbuster experience on his resume as a part of both Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning movies. The role he is playing in the blockbusters originally belonged to Nicholas Hoult, but scheduling conflicts forced the Mad Max: Fury Road star to drop out of the project in May 2020, leading to Morales nabbing the role .
Shea Whigham
Shea Whigham has spent years establishing himself as one of the best characters actors in the business, and doing so has led him to be a part of some major franchises. He’s been a part of Fast & Furious , the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Trek , and the MonsterVerse, and now he is a member of the Mission: Impossible family. The actor confirmed to Digital Spy in May 2022 that he is in both halves of Dead Reckoning , and that his character is “trying to track” Ethan Hunt.
Holt McCallany
While all of the actors mentioned above are going to in both parts of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning , Holt McCallany’s situation is a bit different due to the fact that he is exclusively in the second movie. His casting was reported in July 2022 , and it’s been said that the Mindhunter star will be playing a part in a high government position. Specifically he will be playing the United States’ Secretary of Defense (a man named Bernstein).
Nick Offerman
Audiences primarily know Nick Offerman for his work in comedy – particularly for playing Ron Swanson on the hit NBC series Parks & Recreation – but he will be making a switch over to drama for the action/adventure that is featured in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 . The actor’s part in the blockbuster was confirmed by Christopher McQuarrie on an episode of the Light The Fuse podcast in August.
Pom Klementieff
Based on what we’ve seen from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 , Pom Klementieff is going to be playing a forced to be reckoned with in the film, and apparently the threat that she represents isn’t going to be limited to the action that transpires in that single movie. While the actor is also a part of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (in which she is reprising her MCU role as Mantis), it has additionally been confirmed that she will be in the ensembles of both halves of Dead Reckoning .
Mark Gatiss
Mark Gatiss is another actor who is set to appear in both parts of Mission: Impossible ’s developing epic. Gatiss’ role in Dead Reckoning Part 1 was announced at the same time that Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, and Cary Elwes joined the cast , but he is one of only two names in that group who is also going to be in Part 2 . He said as much in an interview with Radio Times in September 2022, saying that shooting the blockbusters back-to-back is an “extraordinary experience.”
Charles Parnell
Charles Parnell is the other actor from the aforementioned group that will be in both Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 and Part 2 . The character actor recently worked alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick , and it’s not hard to believe that the experience led to Parnell being cast in the upcoming Mission: Impossible movies. In a now-deleted Tweet , Christopher McQuarrie shared an image of Parnell’s character in Part 2 alongside Mark Gatiss and…
Janet McTeer
Janet McTeer’s casting in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 at the same time as Nick Offerman’s, though it is unknown at this time what kind of role she will have in the blockbuster sequel. Like some of her co-stars, McTeer is best known for her work on the small screen, with credits on shows including Damages , Jessica Jones , and Ozark .
With all of these talented stars aboard, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 will arrive in theaters a little less than a year after its predecessor – specifically on June 28, 2024. That’s a long time from now, but there is plenty of entertainment on the way between now and then and you can learn about everything that’s coming out with our 2022 Move Release Calendar and our guide to the upcoming movies in 2023 .

Meet the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast: who's who in the action blockbuster
Tom Cruise is back, but who is joining him on the latest impossible mission?
Death, taxes and Tom Cruise starring in the Mission: Impossible franchise seem like certainties these days. The movie star once again reprises his role as Ethan Hunt in the latest edition of the blockbuster movie , but he's not alone, as quite the ensemble is helping to make up the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast.
Cruise may always be the headliner, but the supporting casts for the Mission: Impossible movies have typically been pretty strong. From Jon Voight, Kristin Schott Thomas and more in the first Mission: Impossible movie to Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett appearing in Mission: Impossible — Fallout .
Which new characters are bound to make similar impressions in Dead Reckoning ? And what familiar faces are popping back up? Let's break down the major characters set to appear as part of the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast and the actors playing them.
Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt
Ethan Hunt has saved the world numerous times already, pulling off incredible, death-defying feats to do so. The IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agent has become the leader of a small team that has become his defacto family — especially since he gave up his wife to keep her safe — and there is nothing he won't do to protect them.
Hunt has become one of Tom Cruise's most iconic roles, right alongside that of hotshot pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick , and one that he says he wouldn't mind playing until he's in his 80s (for reference, he is currently 61).
Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust
Ilsa Faust is a more recent member of the IMF team, joining them to stop Solomon Lane, the villain of the last two Mission: Impossible movies. She has formed a strong, potentially romantic, bond with Ethan since they began working together.
Ferguson first joined the Mission: Impossible franchise in Rogue Nation . Outside of the action franchise, movie fans will know her from Dune ( Part One and Part Two ), Reminiscence , Doctor Sleep and The Greatest Showman , as well as her series Silo on Apple TV Plus .

The latest updates, reviews and unmissable series to watch and more!
Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell
Luther has been one of Ethan's oldest allies and closest confidants. He helps Ethan keep things in perspective, but he is always there to support his friend.
Ving Rhames has been in all of the Mission: Impossible movies, although he just had a cameo in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol . Some of his other famous roles include Pulp Fiction , Con Air , Out of Sight , Dawn of the Dead and Pirahna 3D .
Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn
The IMF's resident tech expert, Benji has been working with Ethan since the events of Mission: Impossible III . He may not be the most physical member of the team, but he has proved his worth again and again.
Simon Pegg is best known for his comedies with Nick Frost and Edgar Wright ( Shaun of the Dead , Hot Fuzz , The World's End ), but he has become a staple of the Mission: Impossible franchise, appearing in every movie since Mission: Impossible III .
Hayley Atwell as Grace
Grace is a new character in the series. She becomes involved with Ethan and the rest of the IMF team as she has critical information regarding the threat that they are dealing with in the movie.
Hayley Atwell is no stranger to big-budget action franchises, having starred as Peggy Carter in the MCU, most notably Captain America: The First Avenger , Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and her own TV series, Agent Carter . She's also starred in the likes of Blinded by the Light , The Duchess and Conviction .
Esai Morales as Gabriel
Gabriel is the main villain in Dead Reckoning . He has a past history with Ethan (though this is the first time that the character is making an appearance in the franchise), but now represents a dangerous force that threatens the status quo of the world.
Esai Morales has starred in a number of popular shows and movies over the course of his career, including How to Get Away with Murder , Ozark , NYPD Blue and La Bamba .
Vanessa Kirby as The White Widow
We learned in Mission: Impossible — Fallout that the White Widow has a connection to someone in Ethan's past, the criminal mastermind Max (Vanessa Redgrave). She's continuing her mother's legacy as a powerful arms dealer. Ethan double-crossed her in the previous movie, so where will things stand between them in Dead Reckoning ?
This is the second appearance for Vanessa Kirby in the Mission: Impossible franchise. The actress broke out with her performance as Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of Netflix 's The Crown but has since gone on to star in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw , The Son and Pieces of a Woman , receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for the latter.
Pom Klementieff as Paris
Paris is an enforcer for the Dead Reckoning villains, set to throw down against Ethan and the rest of the IMF team. Playing the new character is Pom Klementieff, who is best known for her role as Mantis in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. She has also starred in Ingrid Goes West and Spike Lee's Old Boy remake.
Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge
Eugene Kittridge is a government agent that has long been associated with Ethan. Believing Ethan was a mole, Kittridge was the one that was trying to capture Ethan in the first Mission: Impossible movie. This is the character's first appearance since the original 1996 movie.
Henry Czerny is definitely most recognized for his role as Kittridge, but the actor has also appeared in Clear and Present Danger , The Ice Storm , The A-Team , Revenge , Sharp Objects , Ready or Not and, most recently, Scream VI .
Others in the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast
Here are some other recognizable names set to appear in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One :
- Shea Whigham ( Waco: The Aftermath ) as Jasper Briggs
- Cary Elwes ( The Princess Bride ) as Denlinger
- Greg Tarzan Davis ( Top Gun: Maverick ) as Degas
Rob Delaney ( The School of Good and Evil ), Indira Varma ( Obi-Wan Kenobi ), Charles Parnell ( Top Gun: Maverick ) and Mark Gatiss ( Operation Mincemeat ) to date have unspecified roles.
Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One plays everywhere as of July 12.

Emily In Paris’ Marcello Can Finally Mark The End Of The Show’s Worst Relationship
One of tom cruise's best action movies lands on netflix's global chart 10 years later, bad monkey season 1 episode 7 ending explained.
Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow has just edged into the top 10 on Netflix, proving above all else why that movie deserves a sequel. Edge of Tomorrow was first released in 2014 and was directed by Doug Liman. The film received rave reviews, directed primarily at Edge of Tomorrow 's fantastic cast . Starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, the film subverts expectations by showing Cruise as an awkward, timid businessman who learns from Blunt's hardened, veteran soldier to fight a war against aliens called Mimics by the time of Edge of Tomorrow 's ending .
Based on the Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill , Edge of Tomorrow received rave reviews. Outside of the Mission: Impossible series and Top Gun: Maverick , Edge of Tomorrow is the best-ranked Tom Cruise-led movie since 1983's Risky Business, based on the critical approval score of Rotten Tomatoes. This initial reverence from fans and critics alike has spiraled into endless talks about Edge of Tomorrow 2 's story . Above all else, the film's enduring popularity proves a sequel should happen, typified no better than it breaking into Netflix's top 10 over a decade after release.
Edge Of Tomorrow's Netflix Success Shows Its Enduring Popularity
The film's popularity continues to show itself 10 years later.
As alluded to, Edge of Tomorrow was added to Netflix at the beginning of September 2024. Despite the film initially releasing over a decade before that, the film ranked among the top 10 on the streaming service only weeks later, proving above all else how Edge of Tomorrow 's popularity perseveres. While the film has received somewhat of a cult following since its theatrical release regarding the sect of people clamoring for a sequel, it was not the most popular film at the box office, earning $370 million worldwide against a $178 million budget.
One of Tom Cruise's best action movies of his career lands on Netflix's Global Top 10 chart 10 years after its oringal release in 2014.
However, despite the film not pulling in billions at the box office, Edge of Tomorrow 's recent Netflix feat proves how its popularity remains. More so than that, it proves that new people are experiencing the film via streaming services given its top 10 debut. Above the promising fan reviews and decent, albeit not outstanding, worldwide box office haul, the success Edge of Tomorrow is receiving on Netflix is proof that a sequel needs to be made sooner rather than later.
Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Could Be A Great Tom Cruise Sequel
Edge of tomorrow 2 could continue the first film's best aspects.
For several reasons, Edge of Tomorrow 2 would be a fantastic sequel to make. For one, it would provide a welcome element of differentiation regarding Cruise's recent career. While the recent Mission: Impossible movies are fantastic , there is no denying that they have taken up a lot of Cruise's focus outside of Top Gun: Maverick. As such, Edge of Tomorrow 2 would give Cruise the increasingly rare opportunity to focus on a different character than Ethan Hunt, all while continuing the best elements of the first film.
Besides Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, Cruise has little in the way of major projects lined up, offering the aforementioned differentiation via Edge of Tomorrow 2.
Edge of Tomorrow was not necessarily original with its time-loop story, but it certainly presented it as such. The quick, frenetic direction of Doug Liman combined with the expert editing and amazing performances from Cruise and Blunt helped Edge of Tomorrow stand apart. If a second film was made, the same would likely happen as Liman has expressed willingness to return. Also, Edge of Tomorrow 2 could delve deeper into the incredibly unique sci-fi elements like the Mimic aliens and the war against them.
Edge Of Tomorrow Has Been Discussed For Years, So Why Hasn't It Happened?
Edge of tomorrow 2 has been a victim of poor timing.
Since 2015, Liman and Cruise have insisted an idea for Edge of Tomorrow 2 has been finalized. The following years saw Liman, Cruise, and Blunt all enthusiastically claim that a sequel would happen and that it was simply a matter of fitting the film's production into their respective schedules. However, this proved more difficult than first thought with the film being stalled up until March 2018, when Liman revealed the script was being rewritten. More rewrites then took place in 2019, after which Liman announced it had been finalized once more.
Cruise's focus on the Mission: Impossible films has been a big reason for Edge of Tomorrow 2's delays in the late 2010s/early 2020s.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic added strain to the Hollywood model, with Blunt stating on The Howard Stern Show that the effects on budgeting and scheduling resulted in Edge of Tomorrow 2 being postponed indefinitely. After years of silence, a Variety report revealed that the possibility of Edge of Tomorrow 2 was raised at a meeting between Cruise and Warner Bros. Pictures regarding a contractual deal between the parties. Since then, however, little has been revealed about an Edge of Tomorrow sequel, though hopefully, the original film's Netflix success will prove it should still happen.

‘The most expensive frames of any film’: Not Even Tom Cruise Could Do a Stunt Scene That Was Impossible to Shoot Without Dying
Tom Cruise reveals his limits with an impossible stunt in one film, highlighting the extreme measures taken to film it. Read the full story.
- Tom Cruise faced an impossible stunt in The Last Samurai, leading director Edward Zwick to create an animatronic horse for safety.
- The animatronic horse took six months and a million dollars to build, resulting in some of the most expensive frames ever shot.
- In Mission: Impossible 8, Cruise is piloting a vintage WWII plane, showcasing his commitment to performing thrilling stunts despite risks.
Tom Cruise might be the king of death-defying stunts, but even he knows his limits—well, sometimes. In a career full of heart-stopping moments, from hanging off planes to scaling skyscrapers, there’s one scene that left even Cruise tapping out. Yep, this one stunt was so extreme it was deemed impossible to shoot without risking a trip to the great beyond.
And we’re not talking about some CGI extravaganza—this was supposed to be the real deal, but physics and common sense got in the way. Despite his adrenaline-junkie reputation, Cruise couldn’t pull this one off, leaving fans to wonder what could’ve been the most epic and expensive stunt sequence in cinema history. Even Ethan Hunt had to say no!
Behind the Scenes of The Last Samurai : How Tom Cruise’s Wild Stunt Almost Went Off the Rails
In The Last Samurai , things got wild when a stunt almost turned Tom Cruise ’s action hero moment into a disaster. Director Edward Zwick spills the tea in his memoir, Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions , revealing how they pulled off a jaw-dropping scene that needed some serious creativity.
Zwick, who climbed the TV ladder with hits like Thirtysomething , shifted gears to epic films like Glory and Legends of the Fall . But nothing prepared him for the rollercoaster that was The Last Samurai . Cruise stars as an American officer joining a samurai rebellion, led by the legendary Ken Watanabe .
“That’s where he pulls our heartstrings”: Tom Cruise’s Genius Acting in The Last Samurai Deserves More Love According to Stuntman That a Very Few Actors Can Pull Off
One insane stunt had Zwick and his crew in a panic. They envisioned Cruise’s character getting T-boned by another horse, knocking him to the ground. Sounds cool, right? But one wrong move could’ve ended badly. “ No stuntman was going to play his part ,” Zwick insisted. Enter Wilbur, the animatronic horse, which took six months and a cool million bucks to build. Zwick proudly claims ,
I defy anyone to identify him without going frame by frame. All I know is they’re the most expensive frames of any film I’ve ever shot.
Filming in Japan was a whole vibe. With ancient temples and monk blessings, it felt magical. Zwick found joy in the cast’s connection, especially Watanabe’s sense of humor, which totally elevated their scenes. When they moved the action to Burbank, the set morphed into a stunning replica of Tokyo in 1876.
With Hollywood heavyweights like Spielberg and Fincher hanging around, Zwick felt the pressure—but also the thrill of capturing something epic. Even stars get FOMO, as Cruise hilariously had himself photoshopped into a behind-the-scenes snap.
“It’s actually quite the opposite”: Shogun Star Believes Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai Owes a Lot to Hit HBO Series Despite Releasing 21 Years Prior
The making of The Last Samurai was a wild ride, proving that storytelling sometimes requires a bit of madness and a lot of heart.
Tom Cruise Takes to the Skies in Mission: Impossible 8 : Piloting a WWII Plane!
Mission: Impossible 8 is taking Tom Cruise to the limit, as he’s set to pilot a World War II plane . Cruise, known for his death-defying stunts, is upping the ante in the latest Mission: Impossible installment. He’ll be piloting a vintage Boeing-Stearman Model 75 biplane, a plane that’s as old as the hills and just as risky.
Months ago, we caught a glimpse of him hanging off a plane mid-flight, but this time, he’s in the cockpit, steering through perilous skies. The stakes? Sky-high. Not only is he facing the dangers of altitude, but flying an eighty-year-old aircraft adds another layer of risk.
Interestingly, it seems Cruise had to reshoot these scenes, indicating that the initial takes didn’t quite hit the mark. But if there’s one thing we know, it’s that Cruise is all about perfecting his craft—even if it means going to extremes!

Before filming his dare-devil stunts over the weekend, Cruise previously shot scenes for the long-awaited sequel at Longcross Studios.
In April, he was seen filming close to Downing Street in London.
Dramatic scenes revealed trouble for Ethan Hunt as Cruise was seen kneeling on the road in surrender.
Other scenes from the upcoming film have been shot across Derbyshire, Surrey and central London and at landmarks including the Natural History Museum in Kensington and Westminster Bridge.
The filming of the UK scenes of the movie initially took place between March and December 2022.
Ever since Cruise entered the action/adventure genre with 1986's Top Gun, he's been looking for new ways of doing his own daring stunts.

He's done everything from climbing Burj Khalifa (the tallest skyscraper in the world) to hanging off of the side of a plane even though he isn't a professional stunt man.
Production on the eighth film stopped so that the cast could promote Part One, and then the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes further delayed things.
Filming resumed in March 2024, but came to another halt in May, allegedly due to a faulty gimbal.
It was previously reported that Cruise was learning to fly a World War II plane for the action film.
A source told The Sun : "Tom had started to learn to fly a Boeing Stearman biplane earlier this year for a major stunt scene in Mission: Impossible 8.
"It’s obviously a highly skilled task but as usual he has no plans to cut any corners or bring in a stuntman."
The insider added: "Filming has only just wrapped on Mission: Impossible 7 but Tom has not given himself a break. And trying to film jaw-dropping scenes with an 80-year-old plane is particularly dangerous."
Mission Impossible 8 was originally meant to be filmed back-to-back with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which earned over half a billion at box office.
If the strikes hadn't happened, MI:8 would have premiered by the end of summer, but its new release date is now May 23, 2025.
Mission Impossible 8 will also feature Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Vanessa Kirby.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One underperformed at the box office compared to the previous films in the franchise.
The film franchise began in 1996 and is based on the 1966 television series of the same name.

Tom Cruise looks nervous filming 'jaw-dropping scenes' on WWII plane for 'Mission Impossible 8'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise is no stranger to death-defying stunts, especially when he's front and center as the fearless Ethan Hunt in the 'Mission Impossible' series. But it seems even a seasoned daredevil like Cruise gets a little spooked now and then!
Cruise was spotted on Sunday, September 15, preparing for one of his stunts for ' Mission Impossible 8' in Oxfordshire. And no, this wasn’t your typical car chase or rooftop leap - it involved him climbing into the cockpit of a World War II biplane, ready to take to the skies once more.
This time, though, the actor seemed like he had some nerves about the stunt. After all, the stakes are bound to feel a bit higher when you’re 62 years old and piloting a nearly 80-year-old plane.

Tom Cruise getting back in character as Ethan Hunt
As always, Tom Cruise was all-in when it came to embodying his iconic character Ethan Hunt. He donned the character’s signature leather jacket and jumped into the vintage aircraft. The cameras rolled, capturing him soaring through the skies for what promises to be one of the most thrilling final scenes in the eighth installment of the 'Mission Impossible' franchise, the Daily Mail reported.
Cruise has been a licensed pilot since 1994 and even owns several aircraft, so this isn’t completely out of his comfort zone. Still, learning to fly a World War II biplane? That’s next-level commitment right there.
A source told The Sun , “Tom had started to learn to fly a Boeing Stearman biplane earlier this year for a major stunt scene in 'Mission: Impossible 8'. It’s obviously a highly skilled task, but as usual, he has no plans to cut any corners or bring in a stuntman.”

The latest biplane stunt is just one of many jaw-dropping scenes being filmed for 'Mission Impossible 8'. The movie’s production has been quite the rollercoaster ride thus far.
After filming at Longcross Studios, the crew traveled across the UK - shooting in places like Derbyshire, Surrey, and even London’s iconic landmarks like the Natural History Museum and Westminster Bridge.
Back in April, Cruise was seen filming near Downing Street in London, where his character Ethan Hunt was shown kneeling on the road in an apparent moment of surrender.
Filming for 'Mission Impossible 8' originally kicked off between March and December 2022. However, production was paused so that Cruise and the cast could promote 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.' Just when things were back on track, the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes hit and brought filming to another standstill in July.
By March this year, things seemed to be rolling again. But then another hiccup: a faulty gimbal — an essential camera tool — delayed filming yet again. Despite all these setbacks, production has finally resumed and fans can rest easy knowing that the hotly-anticipated film is back in the works.

That said, it’s not just the technical delays that have made this production challenging; some of the stunts are downright dangerous.
The insider elaborated on the risks: “Filming has only just wrapped on Mission: Impossible 7, but Tom has not given himself a break. And trying to film jaw-dropping scenes with an 80-year-old plane is particularly dangerous.”
'Mission Impossible' competing with Oppenheimer
Tom Cruise and the team behind 'Mission Impossible 8' initially planned to film it back-to-back with 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One', which hit theaters in 2023 and grossed over half a billion dollars at the box office. But as luck would have it, the strikes and production delays pushed the release date of 'MI:8' to May 23, 2025.
The box office battle didn’t end there. When 'Dead Reckoning Part One' premiered, Cruise found himself up against Christopher Nolan’s 'Oppenheimer' - which dominated limited screens and overshadowed his film. Despite Cruise’s efforts to extend 'Mission Impossible’s cinema run, 'Oppenheimer' ended up earning nearly $400 million more.
It wasn’t the outcome Cruise had hoped for, especially given the success of previous 'Mission Impossible' films. However, with 'MI:8', Cruise is hoping to bounce back and deliver another blockbuster hit.
As fans eagerly await the release of 'Mission Impossible 8', they can take comfort in knowing that all the franchise’s familiar faces will be back for the ride. Simon Pegg , Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Vanessa Kirby are all reprising their roles alongside Cruise.

Tom Cruise has been upsetting locals again by performing one of his famous aerial stunts over an unsuspecting sleepy town.
The Hollywood actor, 62, was hard at work in Bicester , north Oxfordshire on Monday with footage posted online showing a plane flying manically above the town while a helicopter followed the flight path.
One disgruntled member of the public who had been affected responded: “So now I know who to complain to about flying low over my property!!! I demand an in person apology with flowers and a tux.”
Another wrote: “Saw the biplane and helicopter going back and forth this morning over Arncott.”
A third then penned: “Saw it this morning over Ambrosden ,wondered what was going on.”
Cruise appears to have even crossed counties, with another remarking: “They made it all the way to Buckingham today, two biplanes and a helicopter.”
It’s unknown which movie Cruise was filming for with production on Top Gun 3 and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2 both scheduled to begin next year.
The daredevil actor is well-known however for throwing himself into dangerous stunts to make his films appear as real as possible.
In 2022, Cruise irked the cast and crew of Call The Midwife when filming the Mission Impossible franchise at the same place as the period medical drama at Longcross Studios in Surrey.
Actress Jenny Agutter, who plays Sister Julienne, said at the time: “Tom Cruise keeps on ruining our filming by landing his helicopter right outside where we’re shooting.”
Asked whether she had personally gone over to give the four-time Oscar nominee a telling off, Agutter joked to the Mirror : “In my habit! Imagine!
″‘Excuse me Tom, but look we’re trying to film. I don’t know about you, but just get your helicopter out of here quickly’!”

- Goofs While the specifications for the bomb were being revealed, an explosive yield of five megatons was mentioned. This would be impossible since a Plutonium core alone would only be capable of a fission reaction measured in kilotons of TNT. A second or even third stage involving a fusion reaction would be necessary to achieve an explosive yield in the multi-megaton range. This would require fuels such as lithium-6 deuteride and tritium and a much more complex design than what was shown in the movie.

Tom Cruise looks bewildered as he boards airplane on Mission Impossible set
T he Hollywood actor was spotted soaring through the skies of Oxfordshire, England as he performed his latest death-defying stunt for the new Mission Impossible movie.
This week the Tom Cruise was seen filming his latest heart-pounding scenes for his upcoming film Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two . The A-list star was seen boarding a vintage plane as he was seen suited up in what appeared to be skydiving gear as he performed his latest dangerous stunt that featured two biplanes and helicopters.
This comes Tom is taking on the eighth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The upcoming spy action film is a sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and is based on a screenplay McQuarrie co-wrote. Actor Shea Whigham teased the thrilling upcoming stunts as he told Business Insider : "Tom Cruise does stuff that's gonna make number seven pale in comparison. He's unbelievable in the next one."
Whigham, who stars as the white-collar criminal Jasper Briggs in the film, went on to add: "What he's doing now, people are going to be floored. He wants to make this one like an adventure film, and he and McQuarrie have an idea of what they want to do with it. So it's going to be amazing."
Whigham went on to confirm that he finished filming his portion of the action movie back in May, but Cruise and director are still working together to perfect all of the thrilling scenes featured in the upcoming flick. This comes as Cruise is famously known for performing his own daring stunts over the years.
Throughout the popular Mission Impossible franchise Cruise has performed many jaw-dropping stunts and even drove a motorbike off a mountain in Norway during the latest installment, a moment that was famously described as “the most dangerous stunt in cinema history." During a red carpet premiere for his last action flick, Cruise told Business Insider that he is "always pushing" to entertain his fans with new never-before-seen stunts.

‘Mission: Impossible 8’ is taking Tom Cruise to the limit, as he’s set to pilot a World War 2 plane
New photos from the set of ‘mission: impossible 8′ in the uk have revealed the kind of stunts that tom cruise has chosen to attempt during filming, and it’s nuts..
Tom Cruise is, without a doubt, one of the biggest actors of our time. Not only is he a great performer, but he has also personally decided to take what it means to be an actor to the extreme, leading him to star in all kinds of dangerous scenes without the use of stunt doubles. ‘ Mission Impossible 8 ′ will not be the exception, since now it is known that Cruise will participate in a dangerous air chase in which he himself pilots an old World War II plane.
Months ago we told you about how he had been sighted in England literally hanging off of a plane in mid-flight as part of ‘Mission Impossible 8′, the next installment of the saga that will be released in 2025. In September 2024, the Daily Express reported that the actor has been seen in the same position piloting a vintage World War II plane: a Boeing-Stearman Model 75 biplane, which was an aircraft intended for training North American aviators in the 1930s and 1940s.
This sequence has an enormous double risk: on the one hand, there is the ever-present possibility of a fatal accident when taking into account the height factor, while on the other it must also be taken into account that an eighty-year-old plane is not as reliable as a more recent aircraft. The fact That Cruise has reshot these scenes may imply that those that were initially recorded did not convince the production team., so they had to come back to fix it.
This scene seems to be a high-flying chase in which Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) confronts Gabriel (Morales Essay), one of the main antagonists of the previous film: ‘ Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning ’ (2023), who could also be seen in these snapshots behind the cameras. From these behind-the-scenes images, it can be deduced that, indeed, the eighth film in the ‘Mission Impossible’ saga, which still has no title, will have epic scenes full of adrenaline that will not disappoint the most die-hard fans.
