Best Magic Kingdom Rides

Top 8 magic kingdom rides and attractions – walt disney world.

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened in 1971 as the resort’s first theme park. Today, Magic Kingdom continues to grow in popularity. It has solidified its legendary status as the single-most visited theme park in the world (over 20 million annual visitors). So why is Magic Kingdom the go-to destination for family fun? Even though people love its  restaurants and resorts, getting to meet all of their favorite Disney characters , shopping, scenery,  character dining , and other elements of the park, most people will tell you they go for the  rides  above all else. So what are the best Magic Kingdom rides? Which attractions are best for  Disney Genie+  and  Lightning Lane passes ? Let’s take a look at the top 8 best rides at Magic Kingdom to experience on your next trip.

1. TRON Lightcycle Run

TRON Lightcycle / Run is Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction — and one of its most thrilling!

Board your Lightcycle and be instantly launched into the Grid on this roller-coaster ride through the world of Disney’s TRON movies. Along the way, race a rival (digital) team to see which of you can pass through all the energy points first. Try not to get derezzed!

The ride offers much more than typical Magic Kingdom roller coasters, thanks to high-resolution animated graphics that really make you feel like you’ve jumped straight into these popular films. In addition, part of the launch sequence is outdoors under a canopy; at night, it’s bathed in vibrant animated lights. For this reason, we suggest a nighttime ride if possible.

One thing’s for certain: you won’t have to wait in line to ride — at least not physically. Instead, Disney is implementing its virtual queue for the ride, at least during the initial period after its grand opening.

Rather than a traditional standby line in which Guests simply stand in line, you’ll need to use the MyDisneyExperience app to get a virtual spot in line. Then you can go do other things while you wait). Spaces open up daily at 7 AM and again at 1 PM. On dates when Resort Guests get Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, another round of queueing starts at 6 PM.

Available spots may fill up in literally just a few seconds , so be sure to read Disney’s  extensive instructions  ahead of time so you have the best chance at snagging a spot.

Category : Thrill Ride

Height Requirement : 48in (122cm) or taller

Good for : Tweens, Teens, Adults

Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane Pass : Individual Lightning Lane attraction

2. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train  is one of Disney World’s most thrilling and popular rides. It’s such an exhilarating and magical experience that it long held the top spot on our list, toppled only recently by the addition of Tron Lightcycle Run. Nevertheless, it’s still a fantastic ride (and the best option for smaller riders who aren’t quite tall enough to ride Tron).

Guests board a rustic diamond mine train inside an ancient mountain from the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Here you will begin your ascent to the top of the summit, where you will be greeted with an incredible view of Fantasyland. But this tranquility is fleeting because you then begin a wild ride down into the mine shaft as you swoop through hairpin turns. Hold on tight because this is a bumpy ride!

You soon encounter a merry band of Seven Dwarfs, singing and whistling as they labor. Then, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, it’s off to Seven Dwarfs Train you go on this family-friendly roller coaster ride.

This is a high-priority Magic Kingdom attraction if there ever was one.

[ Note: For those who want to skip the normal standby line – and don’t mind paying a little extra to do so – please note that this attraction is now available as a pay-per-ride Individual Lightning Lane Pass selection.]

Category : Thrill Ride, Small Drops

Height Requirement : 38in (97cm) or taller

Good for : Younger Kids, Tweens, Teens, Adults

Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane Pass : Individual Lightning Lane Pass attraction

3. Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean  a swashbuckling voyage that checks off all the boxes of a great Disney attraction. That is to say; it’s enjoyable, memorable, classic, and suitable for the entire family. Yes, the lines are long, but you can use a Genie+ or just deal with it. But whatever you do, you don’t want to skip over this iconic Magic Kingdom ride!

Step aboard a barge and get ready to journey back to a long-forgotten time when pirates ruled the high seas. The ride takes you along a treacherous voyage through ransacked seaport towns, past the haunted Dead Man’s Cove, and amidst booming cannons between a Caribbean fort and a 12-gun galleon.

Pirates recite their “Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Pirate’s Life for Me” anthem as you pass by drunken buccaneers and fiery locales. See if you can spot Captain Jack Sparrow, made famous by Johnny Depp and the Hollywood film franchise.

This is a must-do indoor boat ride attraction when you visit Magic Kingdom!

Category : Slow Boat Ride, Small Drops, Dark

Height Requirement : Any

Good for : All

Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane Pass : Disney Genie+ attraction

4. Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion  is Magic Kingdom’s spookiest attraction. Located in Liberty Square, guests will climb aboard a Doom Buggy and embark on an eerie adventure through a maze of haunted chambers.

The Ghost Host serves as your private guide throughout the tour of this haunted estate. Here you will encounter ghosts, ghouls, and supernatural phenomena as you skate by a conservatory of caskets, Madame Leota’s séance room of horrors, and a spooky graveyard of singing ghosts. There are plenty of surprises at every turn!

This is one of Magic Kingdom’s dark rides and has some scary moments, but the ghosts are friendly, and there are no violent or bloody elements. Be sure you check out the musical crypt, leaky tomb, and other creepy discoveries outside the main entrance.

Category : Slow , Dark Ride

5. Peter Pan’s Flight

Peter Pan’s Flight  is inspired by Walt Disney’s animated film  Peter Pan (1953), along with the popular book and play of the same name. The story follows a young boy who just doesn’t want to grow up.

When California’s Disneyland Resort opened in 1955,  Walt Disney Company included Peter Pan’s Flight as one of the Disney parks’ first attractions. Disney World opened its own version of the classic attraction when Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. It is located in Fantasyland, and it remains one of the resort’s most popular attractions to this day (and tops our list of the best Disney rides for toddlers and preschoolers ).

Peter Pan’s Flight takes you on a high-flying adventure above scenes from Disney’s animated film. Guests board a pirate galleon and follow Peter Pan on an exciting journey over London. As you descend into Never Land, you will fly between waterfalls and volcanos and swoop into Pirate’s Cove. Will Peter Pan defeat Captain Hook and safely return his companion to London, or will the crocodile thwart these plans?

Peter Pan’s Flight is a classic Disney attraction that’s not to be missed!

Category : Slow Ride, Small Drops

6. Splash Mountain / Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (Closed for Re-theming)

Note:  This attraction is currently closed while it is being re-themed from  Splash Mountain  into a Princess and the Frog attraction,  Tiana’s Bayou Adventure .

Splash Mountain’s last day of operation at Disney World was January 22, 2023. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens sometime in Summer 2024.

Although the theme of the attraction is being updated, no major changes are expected to the ride system itself, so much of the information below should remain the same.

Splash Mountain/Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a  Frontierland attraction for the daring. It may not be the most thrilling ride in the park, but it’s definitely the most “refreshing” — not to mention one of the most popular .

The ride gently drifts through a scenic Southern bayou and past  Audio-Animatronics  frogs, alligators, geese, raccoons, and other adorable critters as they sing.

This low-key, relaxing musical cruise concludes with an exciting surprise as you drop 5-stories down a waterfall! Be warned: riders can expect to get wet, especially those seated in the front of the ride. Lockers are available to store your personal items while you are on the ride.

The attraction has three dips, the concluding 5-story drop, and it utilizes 950,000 gallons of water.

Category : Thrill Ride, Water Ride, Big Drops

Height Requirement : 40in (102cm) or taller

Good for : Kids, Tweens, Teens, Adults

Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane Pass : Formerly Genie+ for Splash Mountain; TBD for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

7. Jungle Cruise

The Jungle Cruise is a 10-minute boat tour of scenic riverways across Africa, Asia, and South America. On the ride, you’ll encounter several dangerous beasts and laugh at the dry wit of the skipper.

Guests board a canopied steamer and set sail through some of the globe’s most treacherous waterways.

Your boat cruises through South America’s lush, tropical foliage, passing by picturesque waterfalls. Then you encounter an abandoned camp along the banks of the African Congo and bathing elephants and angry hippos along the Nile. Keep alert because there’s a tribe of headhunters on the loose!

The  Jungle Cruise  continues through Asia and down the Mekong River, where you’ll come into close contact with cobras, baboons, and other exotic creatures.

As scary as it all sounds, this relaxing ride is suitable for the whole family.

Category : Slow Ride

Height Requirement : None

8. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad  may not be the flashiest or fastest  roller coaster at Disney World . Still, this classic Frontierland attraction is one that everyone should experience.

The ride is set in the 1850s-era Gold Rush ghost town of Tumbleweed. You will enter the abandoned mine shaft and willingly step aboard a train that has lost its marbles.

The train speeds along rickety old tracks, catapults you through tunnels, swoops around turns, and drops into canyons. All the while, you will narrowly miss falling boulders and escape exploding dynamite.

Overall, the theming is fantastic, and this attraction really shines at night. It is a bumpy ride with some dark sections, but it’s one of those classic Disney World attractions that stands the test of time.

BONUS: Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

If you need a break from the thrill rides, then  Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover  may just be the ride you are looking for. The attraction takes you on a narrated 10-minute voyage through Tomorrowland.

After boarding a futuristic tram (powered by magnetized linear induction motors), guests are treated to a leisurely cruise through Tomorrowland. You experience a bird’s-eye view of the park and go behind the scenes for a close-up look at several Tomorrowland attractions, including Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and Mickey’s  Star Traders .

The TTA People Mover is probably the best Magic Kingdom ride for rest and relaxation. Not to be missed!

Best Magic Kingdom Rides and Attractions for Genie+/Lightning Lane

Peter Pan's Flight ride at Magic Kingdom

It’s far-fetched to think that you’ll be able to experience  all  of Magic Kingdom attractions in one day. Therefore, you should prioritize some of the best rides to avoid missing out.

Unfortunately, many of the most popular rides have long lines (see our  ways to avoid long lines  page for tips on how to reduce wait times). We recommend adding Disney Genie+ to your tickets to take advantage of shorter wait times via the Lightning Lane entrance. Here are some suggestions.

Best Magic Kingdom Rides for Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane Passes

  • There are two Magic Kingdom rides available for pay-per-ride Individual Lightning Lane Pass: TRON Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It may be wise to pay a little extra to get the service so you can skip the regular waits.
  • If you opt for the paid Disney Genie+ add-on, you should prioritize the following attractions: Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, Splash Mountain (currently closed), Big Thunder Railroad, Enchanted Tails with Belle, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger’s Spin.
  • On busy days, you can add the following rides to your Genie+ list: Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Tomorrowland Speedway.
  • Some of the least crowded rides include Dumbo the Flying Elephant, ” it’s a small world,” Mad Tea Party, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, The Magic Carpets of Alladin, and Under the Sea.

If you need some advice on which Genie+ selections to prioritize, we urge you to seek out the assistance of  Disney travel agencies . Their services are free!

How Many Rides Does Magic Kingdom Have?

Magic kingdom lands.

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom covers 107 acres and is divided into six themed areas called “lands.” These include  Adventureland , Fantasyland, Frontierland,  Liberty Square , Main Street, U.S.A., and  Tomorrowland . The park is laid out like a wheel, with its hub in front of  Cinderella Castle  and pathways branching out from the hub leading to each of the lands. In addition, a 1.5-mile train named Walt Disney World Railroad circles the park and stops at Fantasyland, Frontierland, and  Main Street U.S.A . Here is a map of Magic Kingdom to give you some perspective:

1-Day Magic Kingdom Itinerary: The Perfect Touring Plan for 2024!

This post may contain affiliate links, view our disclosure policy .

Are you looking for a perfect 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary to outsmart the crowds and get the most out of your Walt Disney World vacation?

Need a summary of rope drop tips and info on how to plan your day in the park to maximize efficiency and minimize time spent standing in lines?

Our 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary highlights all of these topics and offers a step-by-step touring plan for an ideal day at Magic Kingdom.

For an absolutely perfect one day at Magic Kingdom, utilize these practical tips while taking time to enjoy the Disney ambiance that makes Magic Kingdom the most popular theme park in the world!

Magic Kingdom Itinerary: Cinderella's Castle

Important Notice: This one-day Magic Kingdom itinerary has been updated many times  over the past several years to reflect the ongoing changes at the park. It represents the permanement suspension of the Disney FastPass system, Splash Mountain, and Disney Magical Express, as well as the additions of the Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Lightning Lane services. The overall layout of the park has not not changed, however. Therefore, our popular 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary continues to serve as an excellent resource for planning your upcoming Disney World vacation!

Magic Kingdom Itinerary: Important Considerations

You can’t just wing it when it comes to planning a Walt Disney World vacation.

You can try to go without a plan, but you’ll probably end up being disappointed, especially if it’s your first visit.

Our Magic Kingdom itinerary makes it easy for you to get the most out of your experience by outlining the order in which you should visit the rides and attractions.

It is the perfect strategy for those visiting Magic Kingdom for one day .

If you are visiting the park for a longer period, you may still take advantage of this plan, however.

When customizing your Magic Kingdom touring plan, stick to the general idea of having a solid rope drop strategy and overall itinerary that compliments the layout of the rides within the park.

This will maximize efficiency and decrease the amount of time spent standing in long lines.

My Quick Thoughts on Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane

Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) passes are Disney’s new ‘skip the regular’ line options that can be purchased in addition to your regular theme park entry.

Though it seems confusing at first, they’re actually quite easy to use if you do your research ahead of time .

When you only have one day at Magic Kingdom, I recommend that you purchase both Disney Genie+ and an Individual Lightning Lane pass for TRON Lightcycle/Run (Magic Kingdom’s newest ride!).

If your funds allow, also consider purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane pass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train if it is being offered on the day of your visit (otherwise the wait is LONG, and the ride is so short!)

I 100% recommend purchasing Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) passes when visiting the parks during the peak seasons of Christmas, Thanksgiving, Spring Break, and 3-day weekend holidays such as President’s Day and Memorial Day – unless, of course, you don’t mind standing in line for 2 hours!

For guests who want to get on as many rides as possible, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lighting Lane purchases tend to be well worth the added cost to avoid spending hours waiting in line.

With that said, let’s take a look at the first important steps required to plan a successful day at Magic Kingdom !

1-Day Magic Kingdom Touring Plan: The Parade

Magic Kingdom Itinerary: Initial Steps

  • Check Magic Kingdom reservation availability.
  • Purchase your theme park tickets.
  • Make Magic Kingdom theme park reservations.
  • Know Magic Kingdom’s park hours for the day of your visit.
  • Consult a Magic Kingdom crowd calendar.
  • Review the Magic Kingdom map.
  • Make a list of ‘must-do’ rides and shows.

1. Check Theme Park Reservation Availability

Along with purchasing a theme park ticket, you need to make a theme park reservation for each day you’d like to visit any of the Walt Disney World theme parks.

This includes needing to make a reservation to visit Magic Kingdom.

It’s important that you start by checking Disney’s theme park availability calendar to see if the date(s) you plan to visit have availability before purchasing your ticket, Annual Pass, or vacation package – as park reservations do run out during peak seasons.

2. Purchase Theme Park Tickets

After ensuring reservation availability, purchase your Magic Kingdom tickets.

The easiest way to purchase a ticket to Magic Kingdom (or any of the Disney World theme parks) is to buy them directly from a Disney Travel Agent or the Disney World website.

Others choose to buy them from an authorized ticket seller or discounted ticket site.

Be sure to stick with reputable third-party sellers, however, and verify that there are no hidden usage rules that apply.

Check here to read about the three different types of theme park tickets available: 1 Park Per Day, Park Hopper Option, and Park Hopper Plus Option.

3. Make Theme Park Reservations

Then, due to the limited availability of theme park reservations, make your reservation immediately after purchasing your admission ticket in order to guarantee your spot.

Theme park reservations can be made online on the Disney World website, or via the My Disney Experience mobile app.

4. Review Magic Kingdom Hours

Magic Kingdom hours vary by day, by month, and by season.

It is very important to check the Magic Kingdom hours for the day that you plan on visiting so that you can plan your Magic Kingdom itinerary accordingly.

The Magic Kingdom park hour calendar shows early entry hours and park hours, as well as the times of events, parades, fireworks, and nighttime entertainment.

You’ll also want to check this calendar for temporary ride closure information.

Additional planning tip: Early theme park entry is a benefit for registered Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and other select hotels .

It involves getting to enter Magic Kingdom and riding select rides 30 minutes before the park’s scheduled opening time.

5. Consult the Magic Kingdom Crowd Calendar

When you choose to visit Magic Kingdom will make a substantial difference in your Magic Kingdom itinerary.

It’s safe to assume that Magic Kingdom is always going to be busy, but there are times such as Christmas, Spring Break, mid-summer, and other 3-day weekend holidays when the crowds are overwhelming.

Bigger crowds mean longer attraction lines, and consequently experiencing fewer attractions – unless, of course, you’ve carefully planned your Magic Kingdom itinerary and plan to take advantage of Disney’s paid ‘skip-the-regular-line’ options.

You’ll be happy to know that this 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary assumes moderate to high crowds when lines are expected to be long.

In fact, this exact plan was utilized when crowds were rated 9/10 according to Touring Plans .

In order to accomplish this itinerary in a single day, some less popular attractions are skipped.

No matter when you visit, however, this Magic Kingdom itinerary is optimized and ordered so that walking and your waits in line are minimized.

Additional planning tip: If you are planning on visiting several Disney Parks during your Orlando itinerary , we highly recommend alternating park days with non-park days.

Disney World non-park days offset the busyness of the crowds and help keep you fully energized!

6. Review the Magic Kingdom Map

Magic Kingdom is huge – 142 acres to be exact – and it is important to have a general idea of the layout of the park before visiting.

The grounds of Magic Kingdom are organized into 6 lands that form a spoke-like pattern, with Cinderella’s Castle being in the middle ( as shown in the visual below ).

Magic Kingdom itinerary map

The 6 Magic Kingdom lands include:

  • Main Street U.S.A.
  • Tomorrowland
  • Fantasyland
  • Liberty Square
  • Frontierland
  • Adventureland

When planning your Magic Kingdom itinerary, be sure to know what ‘must-do’ rides are in which land, as the overall goal is to do as many rides as possible in each land before moving on to the next one.

This decreases the amount of time you will waste zig-zagging within the park.

It also cuts down on the amount of walking you will do throughout the course of the day.

Additional planning tip: In addition to this itinerary, don’t forget to consult our helpful know-before-you-go Disney tips to avoid preventable touring mistakes.

And last, double-check your Disney packing list to be sure that you have not left behind the top 9 most forgotten items to have with you in the park.

7. Make a List of Your ‘Must-do’ Rides

Magic Kingdom is a combination of rides, shows, character-meet-n-greets, dining experiences, and entertainment such as parades and stage shows.

It would be absolutely impossible to do everything in one day at Magic Kingdom.

For this reason, talk with your family or whoever you’re visiting with and make a list of your ‘must-do’ rides and attractions, and be sure to allow time for them in your Magic Kingdom itinerary.

The most popular rides include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Space Mountain.

Meeting Mickey at Town Square Theater, and the nighttime fireworks shows are other attractions most people typically don’t want to miss.

magic kingdom ride tour

Additional planning tip: As of January 1, 2024, TRON Lightcycle/Run can only be ridden via a virtual queue reservation or by purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane pass – both sell out seconds within being available.

There are 2 daily opportunities to request to join the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle/Run:

  • 7:00 AM (Guests do not need to be in the park when they join, but must have a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom park)
  • 1:00 PM (Guests must be in Magic Kingdom park to join the virtual queue)

Set your alarm for these times and ACT FAST, as the time slots go quickly – oftentimes within seconds.

1 Day Magic Kingdom Itinerary

Before you arrive at Magic Kingdom, be sure to download the official My Disney Experience app on the  App Store  or the  Google Play Store .

This app, which has always been helpful, is now essential .

You’ll use it to view the park map, look at wait times, order quick-service food, and make dining reservations, as well as access all Disney Genie digital services and virtual line queues.

I also highly recommend installing the free Play Disney Parks app as there are some great attraction-themed games, activities, and trivia that will keep kids busy while waiting in line.

Magic Kingdom Arrival

If you drive your personal vehicle to Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) parking lot opens 2 hours before the park’s official opening.

After paying a $25/day fee, you’re directed to a parking space.

From there, you’ll walk to the TTC and catch either the Express Monorail or a ferryboat to the Magic Kingdom entrance.

If you arrive by Uber/Lyft/taxi or by any other non-Disney transportation (like a non-Disney hotel bus) you’ll also be dropped off at TTC and, again, take either the Express Monorail or ferryboat to the park.

If you’re staying at the Contemporary, Bay Lake Tower, Polynesian Village, or Grand Floridian Resort, you can commute to the Magic Kingdom by monorail.

(Guests staying at the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower can walk to the park more quickly than taking the monorail.)

If you’re staying at Wilderness Lodge & Boulder Ridge Villas or Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, you can take a boat or bus.

All Disney resort lodging guests using Disney-provided transportation are let off directly at the park’s entrance, bypassing the TTC.

Note: Disney Skyliner is only available from various resorts to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios and does not service Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom itinerary, the park with no crowds

Magic Kingdom Park Entry

We recommend getting to the park turnstiles 45-60 minutes prior to the scheduled park opening, especially on projected busy days.

This act has long been long-known as ‘rope drop’.

Rope drop involves getting to Magic Kingdom before it begins operating for the day so that you can be among the very first guests to enter and enjoy the attractions.

In other words, the same four rides you experience in 1 hour upon rope dropping can take as long as 5 hours after 10:30 AM.

Crowds at Magic Kingdom while doing our 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary

The following tips will help you make the most of rope drop at Magic Kingdom:

  • Magic Kingdom lets guests through the turnstiles and onto Main Street U.S.A. 60 minutes before park opening. (We arrived 45 minutes prior to the official opening and found this was sufficient.)
  • After passing into the park, people are only allowed to enjoy Main Street and the central plaza in front of the castle. There will be a rope manned by cast members preventing guests from entering the five different entrances into each of the lands.
  • The Let the Magic Begin welcome show takes place 5 minutes before official park opening at the front of Cinderella’s Castle (the show lasts for 5 minutes).
  • After the show, cast members remove the ropes (hence the name “rope drop”) allowing you to walk briskly, but not run, to whatever land/attraction you desire.
  • If you truly want to ride without a wait, be as close to the front of the waiting rope drop crowd as you can. After rope drop, instant waits of up to 60 minutes for popular attractions (such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan, and Space Mountain) will form.

Magic Kingdom Rides: Morning Plan

The following 1-Day Magic Kingdom itinerary assumes a 9 AM park opening without the early entry benefit for onsite guests.

Adjust the times accordingly if you’re visiting when there’s a different park opening time.

We also do not factor in Disney Genie+ reservations as not everyone uses Genie+, and for those who do, every ride choice and return time is different making it impossible to create a universal touring plan.

7:00 AM Purchase Individual Lightning Lane Passes ( if you choose ). Set your alarm to go onto your My Disney Experience app to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane pass TRON Lightcycle/Run and/or for Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train.

8:15 AM Park arrival. Tour Main Street, take photos outside of Cinderella’s Castle and get in line for Fantasyland rope drop.

9:00 AM Offical Park Opening. Head straight for your first ride as listed below.

Morning Rides and Attractions Schedule

The first half of our Magic Kingdom touring plan includes rides in Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square.

Begin by heading straight to Fantasyland to ride:

1. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (If you’ve purchased an Individual Lightning Lane pass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, rope drop Peter Pan’s Flight or Jungle Cruise instead.)

2. Peter Pan’s Flight

Once you’re done with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan’s Flight, quickly make your way to Frontierland and ride:

3. Big Thunder Mountain

4. Splash Mountain (currently being re-made into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure)

Then, walk a short distance to Adventureland and ride:

5. Jungle Cruise

6. Pirates of the Caribbean

7. Swiss Family Tree House (explore for 10 minutes) and/or Tom Sawyer Island

Make your way up to Liberty Square and the edge of Fantasyland while stopping for lunch whenever you desire.

8. Haunted Mansion , then

9. It’s A Small World

Additional planning tip: Visiting with children ages 1 – 4 years old?

Your Magic Kingdom itinerary for toddlers will include more time spent in Fantasyland than in any other area.

In addition, be sure to include this list of the best Magic Kingdom rides for toddlers in your one-day itinerary.

You might encounter rain at Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom Rides: Afternoon Plan

Be prepared for the potential of an afternoon rain shower at Walt Disney World, as this is very common in Orlando, Florida.

…That is also why we always recommend having a Disney day bag fully stocked with touring essentials including disposable rain ponchos in order to stay dry.

Oddly enough, the afternoon hours are also when temperatures will be at their highest.

This is why we suggest saving the indoor shows at Magic Kingdom for the afternoons in order to enjoy the air conditioning!

Disney's The Hall of Presidents during our Magic Kingdom itinerary

Afternoon Rides and Attractions Schedule

The second half of our Magic Kingdom touring plan includes rides and shows in Liberty Square, Tomorrowland, and Fantasyland.

Start by hanging out in Liberty Square and watching these two shows to let your stomach rest after lunch.

1. Hall of Presidents (25-minute narration)

2. Country Bear Jamboree (16-minute narration)

Expect longer waits in the afternoon upon making your way to Tomorrowland to ride and watch:

3. Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom’s newest ride, TRON Lightcycle/Run, is located behind Space Mountain)

4. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin

5. Astro Orbiter

6. Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover

7. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor (8-minute narration)

8. Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid

9. Mad Tea Party

10. Mickey’s PhilharMagic

11. Watch Happily Ever After (Disney’s nighttime fireworks show held at Cinderall’s Castle and Main Street U.S.A.; check the Park Calendar for its daily showtime.)

Magic Kingdom touring plan: The nighttime fireworks

Magic Kingdom Dining

There are several restaurants at Magic Kingdom that provide a great time to relax and refuel.

Between sit-down restaurants and quick-service dining, the options are endless.

Our absolute favorite quick-service restaurants ( no reservations required ) are Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe in Frontierland and Cosmic Ray’s in Tomorrowland.

For a splurge, try to snag advanced reservations at Be Our Guest Restaurant – by far the most popular table-service restaurant at Magic Kingdom.

If you’re visiting Disney World on a budget , however, consider ‘snacking’ your way around the park, instead of spending big bucks on Disney dining.

Some of our favorites include giant Mickey-shaped pretzels and ice cream bars, chocolate-covered frozen bananas, Dole Whip from Aloha Aisle, and funnel cakes & a Disney fruit and Nutella waffle sandwich from Sleepy Hollow.

Best Hotels for Magic Kingdom

The proximity of onsite hotels to the theme park entrance, and the Disney theme and customer service that carries over to their hotels is a major enhancement to the overall Disney experience.

As with all major theme parks in Florida (Check out our review of on-property locations at Universal Studios ) , we strongly recommend staying at a Disney hotel or resort if you can afford the more expensive cost of their hotels.

It’s also very convenient if you have younger kids and might need to take a break in the afternoon for a nap or a swim in the pool.

For families with older children who plan for their day from rope drop to park closing, proximity to the park might not be as important.

Therefore, you might want to check out  off-site hotels  for lower nightly rates.

Hotel Types at Disney World

Hotels at Walt Disney World are broken up into three categories- Deluxe, Moderate, and Value.

This categorization is in relation to their amenities and their nightly room rates. (Deluxe being the most luxurious and expensive, Value being the most basic and affordable.)

Disney also offers onsite Deluxe Villas and campgrounds.

Most guests consider Disney’s Deluxe Hotels as being a bit more luxurious as they offer more amenities, beautiful rooms, and truly immersive experiences.

The perks of Disney’s Deluxe Resort hotels include additional Disney transportation options, location to the theme parks, and larger standard room sizes.

For instance, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Polynesian Resort are just minutes away from Magic Kingdom and Epcot by monorail.

Out of these three hotels along the monorail, only the Contemporary allows you to walk to Magic Kingdom as well.

The Wilderness Lodge, on the other hand, offers both a water taxi and a bus to Magic Kingdom.

Disney’s Deluxe Resort Hotels include:

  • Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Boardwalk Inn
  • Contemporary Resort
  • Grand Floridian Resort & Spa,
  • Polynesian Village Resort
  • Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Additionally, the new Riviera Resort is considered a Deluxe Resort.
  • Other select deluxe hotels include: Disney’s Dolphin and Swan Hotels and Swan Reserve

Disney’s Moderate Resort hotels typically include a full-service restaurant in addition to food courts, a swimming pool with a slide and hot tub, recreation options, and some forms of Disney transportation.

Specifically, at the Caribbean Beach Resort, you can take the Skyliner to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, and you can take a boat from Fort Wilderness Resort to Magic Kingdom.

The Ultimate Magic Kingdom itinerary from Top U.S. travel blog, Travel With A Plan.

Disney’s Moderate Resorts include:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Coronado Springs Resort
  • Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
  • The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Disney’s Value Resorts are known to be the most budget-friendly.

The standard rooms at the Value Resorts are typically slightly smaller in size, with fewer amenities than you’ll find at the Moderate or Deluxe Resorts.

Each Value Resort includes an onsite food court, two or more swimming pools, and Disney transportation via bus.

In addition, Disney’s Skyliner now offers aerial transportation from a shared station between Pop Century and Art of Animation to Caribbean Beach, where guests transfer to either Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney’s Value Resort Hotels include:

  • Pop Century Resort
  • All-Star Music Resort
  • All-Star Movies Resort
  • Art of Animation Resort

1 Day Magic Kingdom Itinerary: Conclusion

In conclusion, this 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary is the perfect combination of rides, attractions, and shows.

We felt like we did it all, and you will too!

We were not zig-zagging throughout the park, and we never stood in line for more than 60 minutes (on a day when every ride had a 60-120-minute wait in the afternoon).

Every parent knows their kids’ limits, as well as knows what touring plan is going to work for their family, so do adjust your personal Magic Kingdom touring plan accordingly.

If you find yourself wandering around the park and the lines are long, check the free Disney Genie app and head to the rides with the lowest advertised wait times.

Great tips. Rope drop is a must! I agree that about 45 minutes is enough time, and then we usually head to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Complete Guide to the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom

Complete Guide to the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom

All aboard! It’s time to talk about one of the best attractions at Magic Kingdom — the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Yes, we truly believe the train that travels around Magic Kingdom is not only iconic, but also worth hopping on at least once during a park visit — especially if you’ve never done so.

Because of the TRON construction, the beloved train was closed for several years, but that’s not the case anymore!

Here’s what’s new:

  • Although the path is mainly the same (with some small changes near TRON Lightcycle / Run), the entire track has been refreshed.
  • In addition, the 100-year-old trains themselves have also been refreshed.
  • One of the most noticeable changes will be what you hear when riding. The train features a new narration and voiceover. Disney says, “Walt Disney Imagineering also seized this moment to revisit the narration and introduce an all-new voice to bring guests into the beloved stories they encounter as they travel from one magical land to the next.”

It’s no secret that Walt Disney was a big lover of trains. Riding the Walt Disney World Railroad is a great way to honor the man who started it all with a mouse.

The train might not be a thrill ride or an attraction everyone runs to, but it’s special and not to be ignored.

Plus, it’s a great way to get around the park without having to walk, perfect for little ones, and offers views that you can’t see anywhere else in Magic Kingdom.

So if we could have your attention please as we present to you our guide to Walt Disney World Railroad .

Before we get too far into it, make sure you check out our guide on the Best Rides at Magic Kingdom for information on every attraction and show at Magic Kingdom.

Walt Disney World Railroad Quick Facts

  • Location: Magic Kingdom, stations at Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland
  • Height requirement : None
  • Suitable for: Everyone
  • Attraction length: 20 minutes
  • Do we recommend? Only as a time filler, not a high priority (but we think everyone should ride it at least once!)
  • When to visit: Anytime
  • Scheduled Refurbishments
  • Tip(s): This is a great attraction to ride if you have a little one who needs to rest since you can stay on it as long as you like. You can get on and off on any of its 3 stops so it is also a good way to save some steps if you need to cross the park.

Description : The Walt Disney World Railroad is a 20-minute slow-moving, 1.5-mile scenic round-trip train ride around the Magic Kingdom. You can ride on 1 of 4 restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains that were originally built between 1916 and 1928.

There are 3 different places to find the Walt Disney World Railroad, including:

The Main Street, U.S.A. station

This is the main station for the railroad and located in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A.

How to ride the Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad only has a Standby Line. There is also no Single Rider Line.

Typically, the train doesn’t have extremely long waits. A lot of people can ride at once due to plenty of seating and the number of railroad cars. And with groups of people getting off and on, the wait is never too lengthy.

A complete roundtrip is about 20 minutes, with each Walt Disney World Railroad line arriving at each station every 5 to 10 minutes.

Typically, 2 or 3 trains run each day.

Do I need to use Genie+ for the railroad?

No, you do not need to use Genie+ for the railroad, especially because there isn’t a Lightning Lane available here.

Be sure to check out our touring strategies for Magic Kingdom for more Genie+ advice.

Rider Switch/Child Swap

The Walt Disney World Railroad does not have Rider Switch, but several attractions in Magic Kingdom do .

Learn more about Rider Switch.

What to expect when you ride

The queue for the railroad doesn’t have any interactive elements or games and is pretty standard, but each one has its own theming depending on where the station is located. All of the station queues are also outdoors and mainly covered/in the shade.

Ride Vehicles

There are 4 steam locomotives:

  • Walter E. Disney
  • Lilly Belle
  • Roy O. Disney
  • Roger E. Broggie

Each locomotive has 5 passenger cars, with each train holding about 365 passengers total.

All of the trains have benches that face forward and can fit around 3 to 5 guests.

Accessibility Information

Guests in ECVs must either transfer to a manual wheelchair or onto a train seat.

ECVs must stay at the station after guests have transferred, meaning you will have to go back to that station to pick up the ECV.

Folded strollers can be brought on board, but in-park rental strollers and any other stroller that can’t be folded must be left in the nearby designated stroller parking.

Handheld captioning  is available for guests with hearing disabilities.

On the Ride

Here’s a breakdown of the ride as if you’re leaving the Main Street station and taking a roundtrip.

When you exit the Main Street station, you’ll come upon a lot of foliage, along with different themed props and a brief peek into backstage areas as you make your way through Adventureland on your way to Frontierland.

Historically, as you approached Frontierland, you traveled through a tunnel that overlooked the finale scene of Splash Mountain where the animatronics sang on the riverboat. We will have to wait to discover what we’ll see after Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens.

Once you exit the Frontierland station, you’ll come upon Thunder Mountain and see some awesome views. You might even get a glimpse of the roller coaster in action.

The train then crosses a bridge that offers views of the Rivers of America and the Liberty Square Riverboat.

Next, the train pulls into the Fantasyland station before heading through Tomorrowland, where you’ll see unique views of Space Mountain and TRON!

After you leave Fantasyland, you’ll head to Main Street. If you’re on the inside, you’ll be able to see the Contemporary and views of the Magic Kingdom park entrance.

Is the railroad kid-friendly?

Yes, the railroad is kid-friendly.

It also makes for a great attraction if you have a little one who needs to rest since you can stay on it as long as you like.

If your stroller doesn’t fold and you have to park it, be sure to take your valuables with you and cover your stroller to protect it from those almost  guaranteed Florida rainstorms .

The Walt Disney World Railroad and all 4 steam locomotives debuted on October 1, 1971 – opening day of Magic Kingdom.

walt disney train

The fleet of locomotives were manufactured by the Baldwin Automotive Works of Philadelphia between 1915-1928 for the United Railways of Yucatan. The trains transported jute and sugar through the Yucatan Peninsula.

The locomotives were then restored and repainted for the park’s opening.

The Walt Disney World Railroad fleet has 3 locomotives named after members of the Disney family – the Walter E. Disney, the Roy Disney, and the Lilly Belle (after Lillian Disney). The fourth train is named after Imagineer Roger E. Broggie.

Other fun details

  • Characters appear throughout the day at the Main Street station for distanced meet and greets. This is a fun way to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, and Chip ‘n’ Dale. They don’t appear at set times, but sporadically throughout the day.

magic kingdom main street railroad characters

  • If open and available, you can watch fireworks from the Main Street station. This makes for a great view, but know that you won’t be able to see the projections on the castle as well. This is also a popular spot, so you’ll want to plan accordingly and grab a spot a decent time ahead of fireworks showtime.

roger e broggie walt disney world railroad

  • While currently unavailable (and it also remains unclear if this is returning), there was once a behind-the-scenes train tour called – The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour. It was a 3-hour tour prior to park opening that offered a peek at the railroad’s operations, led by a tour guide who was also one of the engineers.

5 Tigger-Rific Facts About the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Ride at Disney World

Oh bother, there’s so much to learn about the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, but you’ll have to put that jar of honey down to scroll through the list.

Largely regarded as the definitive adaptation of A.A. Milne’s beloved characters, Disney’s 1977 anthology film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh has a charming ride within Fantasyland at Walt Disney World . The immersive, family-friendly attraction lets you experience memorable scenes from the movie as they come to life in the form of a larger-than-life storybook. Tour though the Hundred-Acre Wood, from Rabbit’s garden as it’s bombarded with blustery gusts to a psychedelic dream world inhabited by Heffalumps and Woozles.

5 Facts About the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Ride

Even if you’ve ridden on this dark ride through the Hundred Acre Wood with your family before, you’re sure to find some trivia you never knew in these five interesting facts about The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride at the Magic Kingdom .

1. A Long Time Coming

Even though the inhabitants of the Hundred-Acre Wood have been popular ever since their debut in A.A. Milne’s children’s stories—and even more so after Disney adapted them to the big screen—it wasn’t until 1999 that visitors saw the first Winnie the Pooh attraction at a Disney Park. An attraction dedicated to Pooh and his friends had been in the works for a while, way back to the 1970s as part of the renovations to Fantasyland at Disneyland California — but those plans didn’t work out. Another idea fell through in the late 1980s that envisioned a ride of spinning Winnie the Pooh honey pots .

Wake up! The ride is finally here! Photo By Cliff Wang

Eventually, the ongoing plans for a Winnie the Pooh ride came to fruition at Walt Disney World, where it debuted on June 5, 1999 . That’s more than three decades after the first Disney-produced adaptation of the silly old bear was released! Today, there are multiple versions of this attraction around the world, including ones at Disneyland , Hong Kong Disneyland , and Tokyo Disneyland .

2. Former Tenant of the Hundred-Acre Wood

If you visited the Magic Kingdom prior to 1999 , you’ll recall that a different attraction was located in the space where The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh now resides: Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. One of the original attractions present at the park’s opening day on October 1, 1971 , Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride had a small but dedicated following, making the decision to retire the rail ride in 1998 a controversial one.

Mr. Toad passing along the deed to Owl.

But Disney Imagineers knew what they were doing when they replaced the ride based on the animated adaptation of The Wind in the Willows with one with enduring popularity: Christopher Robin and his cavalcade of creatures. Bearing (ha) the same indoor track layout as its predecessor, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride didn’t require an extensive overhaul to construct. As a nod to the prior attraction, a picture of Mr. Toad handing a property deed to Owl hangs on the wall of the wise bird’s house. Keep your eyes open when you enter his undulating home!

3. Activities Before You Board

If you typically skip the line and use your FastPass to bounce ahead to the boarding station, you’re missing out on half of the attraction’s offerings. One of the highlights of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh isn’t the ride itself but rather the queue that precedes it. Because the target audience for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is young children, Disney Imagineers gave little attendees plenty to do while they waited to board.

Find your green thumb in Rabbit’s Garden in the queue. Photo by Cliff Wang

Added after the attraction was renovated in 2010, the interactive queue provides children with plenty of hands-on activities to enjoy as they wait for their turn to board. This area features a playground with child-friendly games such as wiping away digital honey and digging in Rabbit’s garden. The ride only lasts a brief 2 minutes, so take your time letting your child play instead of hurrying through. It’s a queue that’s definitely worth standing in line for!

4. Un-Bee-Lievable

As you approach your honey pot-shaped cart to board the tram, take a moment to look down at the edge of the platform—and not just because it’s important to mind the gap!

Say hello to Pooh near the end of the ride. Photo by Cliff Wang

The yellow-and-black striped caution tape lining the edge of the floor has a pattern of contrasting bee silhouettes dotting it. This is a clever reference to “Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree” that you may miss if you’re not looking closely.

5. Take Your Picture with the Stars

After your family disembarks from your journey through the Hundred-Acre Wood, your children will be begging for a picture with Winnie the Pooh or Tigger. Luckily, you won’t have to trek far to find a photo opportunity with these costumed characters.

Thanks to the creativity of Walt Disney Productions, A.A. Milne’s stories about Christopher Robin and his friends will be forever remembered as the animated depictions we know and love. Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!
