Here’s a scenario most golfers have gone through at least once: You come to a par-3 over water, chunk your tee shot, re-tee only to do the exact same thing. Determined to get over the water, you nearly top your third attempt, watching it skim over the water, hoping somehow it gets to the other side. It does not.

At this point, you’re not worried about your score. That was ruined with the first two balls in the water. No, you’re probably thinking you’d like to at least play out the hole. More importantly, you might be calculating the cost of a sleeve of balls. If you just lost three Titleist Pro V1s, you’re looking at about $15. But, if it’s a sleeve of Top-Flite XLs, you’re talking $4 max, which makes this disaster a lot easier to stomach. That also makes it less likely that you’re going to give up golf.  That’s when it’s great to play a cheap golf ball.

The truth of the matter, however, is that the vast majority of golfers are going to shoot the same scores with cheap golf balls as with expensive ones. Heck, they might score better with the bargains, because again, you’re not worried about the monetary hit if you lose them in the woods or the water. Maybe you swing freer with those cheap balls. (How many golfers do you know who have special scuffed-up “water” balls they like to use on shots across the water?)

But which cheap balls should you buy? And are they all created the same?

The answer to the second question is no, they are definitely not all the same. Incredibly, you can get a dozen three-piece, tour-like urethane balls for under $20 if you buy the Kirkland Signature balls from Costco.

As for which ones are right for you, it depends on what you’re looking for in your game. Some cheap balls are simply designed for durability and distance. Many of the recommended cheap balls have just enough softness to give them some feel around the greens. If you’re looking to spend as little as possible on golf balls, but still want quality worth playing, then there’s a ball on this list that’s right for you.

Here are nine recommendations for the cheapest golf balls you should actually play. The most expensive ball is about $23 a dozen, and many of these are under $20, which helps you come up with enough spare change to either pay off a bet or buy a beverage after your round.

TaylorMade Noodle Long and Soft

FIND ON AMAZON

Best for: Players looking for long and soft at a great price Construction: 2-piece ionomer

TaylorMade knew what it had when it sold Maxfli to Dick Sporting Goods but elected to retain the Noodle (perhaps Maxfli's biggest hit of all time). Simply put, the Noodle, which came out around the time of the Pro V1 almost 25 years ago, is a classic with a long following.

One comment on TaylorMade’s website read, “Please don’t ever stop making these balls...” The name alone is brilliant, referring to exactly what it is – a soft golf ball that might feel a little like a noodle, but it’s plenty long for most players. It has 342 dimples for great carry and an ultrasoft 34 compression core.  I must confess, I’ve used the ball from time to time over the years and found it more than adequate. And at a buck a ball, how can you go wrong?

Vice Drive golf ball

Vice Drive golf ball

  • SOURCE Walmart

Best for: Players who need more distance Construction: 2-piece, Surlyn cover

If you’re looking for a lot of distance for your buck, the Vice Drive is a great choice at $15 a dozen. It has a low-compression Energy Speed Core that helps players with slower speeds get the most out of their swings.

The low-compression core also gives it a relatively soft feel, which is a bonus. While it won’t spin back like a premium tour ball, of course, it will stop on the greens if you compress your shots. A high ball flight helps with that, too.

Pinnacle Rush

Pinnacle Rush golf ball

Pinnacle golf balls are made by the same parent company that's responsible for Titleist golf balls

  • DESCRIPTION Pinnacle Rush golf ball

Best for: Players seeking more distance Construction: 2-piece, ionomer cover

Any roundup of inexpensive golf balls worth buying has to include Pinnacle. In fact, two Pinnacle models made our list, and they really are decent balls for mid- to high-handicappers. Still manufactured by Acushnet, the same company that brings you Titleist, these balls aren’t afterthoughts; there is some real R&D that goes into them.

With that said, the Pinnacle Rush is a fast ball. It has a high-energy core and a very durable 332-dimple cover, so you can play these over and over again and they soar through the air as well as any ball on the market.

Pinnacle Soft

Pinnacle Soft golf balls

  • DESCRIPTION Pinnace Soft golf balls

Best for: Players wanting distance plus a little feel Construction: 2-piece, ionomer cover

What’s the difference between the Pinnacle Rush and Pinnacle Soft? Probably not much, but if you’re looking for distance with a little more feel, the Soft is the better choice.

It has the 332-dimple cover so it will spin less on drives, giving you the most distance. The core, however, is softer than in the Rush, which gives it more feel and perhaps better stopping power. In either case, the price is right at $20 for 15 balls.

Kirkland Signature Golf Ball

Kirkland Signature golf ball

You don't have to be a Costco member to take advantage of this incredibly affordable golf ball

  • DESCRIPTION Kirkland Signature golf balls

Best for: Players who want a cheap ball with premium performance Construction: 3-piece, urethane cover

Hands down, the Kirkland Signature ball from Costco is the best value in golf. We could debate its quality control a bit, but to get a ball with tour-level characteristics – high spin around the greens, urethane cover, and very good distance off the tee – for less than $35 for two dozen is ridiculous.

I’ve played the latest version of this ball, and if they were all the same price, I wouldn't choose it over a Callaway Chrome Soft or Titleist Pro V1. The performance it for my game, however, is comparable, and for the money, it hurts a lot less when I spray a Kirkland off the tee into oblivion.

By the way, you don't have to be a Costco member to purchase these since they are also available on Amazon at only a slightly higher price.

Cut Red golf ball and packaging

  • DESCRIPTION Cut Red golf ball and packaging

Best for: Players looking for more distance and value Construction: 2-piece, ionomer cover

If you haven’t heard of Cut Golf, and you’re looking for some inexpensive options, you might want to check out their golf balls. The more you order, the more you save. For this article, we chose the company’s cheapest golf ball, the Cut Red, which is $16 a dozen, but goes down to $13 a dozen when you order five dozen. At that price, fire all the mulligans you want, right?

Seriously, though, the Cut Red is a two-piece ball with a durable cover and a nice aiming line for putts. The company also offers some three-piece urethane options – the Blue and the Gray, and those are both just $25 or so a dozen.

Srixon Soft Feel

Srixon Soft Feel golf ball

Srixon Soft Feel golf ball

  • DESCRIPTION Srixon Soft Feel golf ball
  • SOURCE Golf Galaxy
  • PERMISSION Permission given by Golf Galaxy

Best for: Player with moderate swing speeds seeking feel around the greens Construction: 2-piece ionomer

You’ll find the Srixon Feel on lots of lists because of its value and all-around performance. It’s a great ball for seniors and for mid-handicappers. While it doesn’t spin like the premium Srixon Z-Star, it’s more than adequate around the greens. I’ve played this ball for years and have never had any trouble getting it to check up on the greens, whether it’s from a short pitch or an approach shot.

It has a very large responsive core and soft ionomer cover. The core accounts for the distance characteristics of the ball, which are great for players in 85 mph to 95 mph range, while both the soft core and cover account for its feel.

Top Flite XL Distance

Top Flite XL Distance golf ball

  • DESCRIPTION Top Flite XL Distance golf ball

Best for: Players seeking more distance Construction: 2-piece ionomer

Like Pinnacle, Top-Flite has to be on a list for value golf balls, and yes, the Top-Flite XL still exists. No longer a part of Spalding or Callaway, Top-Flites are made overseas like many golf ball brands, but they’re still true to their DNA as a golf ball that simply goes far, won’t bruise too easily, and is easy on the wallet.

We like the XL Distance Color Blast pack, two dozen of which go for $25. It’s fun with four different colors – red, yellow, green, and orange – like Easter eggs. And if you’re a high handicapper who has to run the ball to the green anyway, this is a great choice.

Wilson DUO SOFT

Wilson DUO SOFT golf ball

Wilson DUO SOFT golf ball

  • DESCRIPTION Wilson DUO SOFT golf ball

Best for: Players with moderate to slow swing speeds Construction: 2-piece ionomer

Wilson claims the Duo Soft is the world’s softest golf ball, so it should be great for feel and distance. The soft core helps you get the most out of a slower swing speed, and that softness also gives it feel.

Will you spin shots back on the green with these? Probably not, but it should stop if you bring it in high enough.

This is also a very straight ball, so if you tend to slice, this ball can help straighten you out. The Wilson Duo comes in white, green, yellow, orange, and red.

When Cheap is Good

There are lots of cheap golf balls on the market, but I wouldn't recommend all of them. All the balls on this list are not only a good value, but offer decent quality as well.

While some certainly have a harsher feel than others, none of them are garbage, and some are real gems. In particular, I personally love the Kirkland Signature, and the Srixon Feel, and I'm still hanging in there with a single-digit handicap.

So if you've tried one or two of these, you might want to consider trying a few more. You might find one you really like, and losing them is always less painful when you're paying less.

Is price your only priority? If that’s the case, simply grab the cheapest golf ball you can find and don’t worry about how many you lose. Take note of any performance tendencies, and as you improve, find a golf ball that addresses your changing needs.

Helpful Hack

When simply picking the cheapest golf ball you can find, avoid used golf balls, sometimes disguised to as reconditioned or recycled golf balls. Balls that were fished out of a water hazard are likely water-logged, which kills performance (including distance). Some of these balls have also been known to be stamped with a premium ball’s logo, despite being a discount ball.

The best budget drivers under $300 of 2023

The Best Budget Drivers of 2023 Under $150, $200 & $300

Swing Speed

After price, the next consideration should be your swing speed. As you’ve noticed, many of the golf balls on this list cater to slower to moderate swing speeds. That’s because they are mostly soft-feel, 2-piece golf balls. If you swing your driver less than about 95 miles per hour, any of these balls will fit you well.

However, if you have a faster swing speed, you should play a higher-compression golf ball. Otherwise, you will over-compress the ball and lose distance. There are a few options on this list designed for players with faster swing speeds, including the Maxfli Tour, Tour X and Kirkland Signature balls.

Are there certain tendencies in your golf game that you want your ball to help with? Perhaps you need a ball that helps you hold greens on approach shots, or a ball that flies as straight as possible to help reduce a slice or hook. Take note of your top one or two priorities and find a ball targeted towards those.

The 10 Straightest Golf Balls of 2024 to Fight a Slice

Talk is Cheap

Remember, no ball truly has it all, whether it’s a budget ball or a premium ball. If you want a straight-flying golf ball, you’ll likely sacrifice some feel, and if you want the most distance possible, you’ll probably sacrifice some stopping power on the greens.

Prioritize where you want your ball to perform, and what sacrifices you can live with, then find the ball for you.

As with nearly all things in life, the very best golf balls on the market come at a price that may well be too much for many to contemplate. Yes, the top of the range best golf balls may deliver the finest all-round performance when it comes to feel, spin control and distance. But the modest price tags can be a real obstacle for many, especially if you’re still losing so many balls that all the performance benefits in the world could never justify the expense!

The best premium golf balls undeniably offer the very best performance and should be considered if you have designs on improving and getting the very best out of your game. But don’t underestimate value golf balls if you can’t, or don’t want to, pay premium prices. From our testing many have improved beyond all measure and will happily provide you with all the performance you need for where your golf game or budget is at right now. Gone are the days when all lower-priced balls felt like rocks. Times have changed, and so have the performance levels on offer.

We’d recommend you try a few before settling on a particular model, taking into account whether your game might benefit more from extra yards off the tee, better distance control on your approach shots or added feel around the greens. If you are interested, feel free to take time to check out our other golf ball guides too, whether you’re looking for the best mid price golf balls , the best distance golf balls or the best cheap golf balls .

Titleist 2024 TruFeel Golf Ball Review

A dozen Titleist 2024 TruFeel Golf Balls in packaging, lying on grass

Titleist 2024 TruFeel Golf Ball

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

First up we have the TruFeel golf balls from Titleist which cost slightly more than some of the other models in this list but we think the performance on offer still makes them good value.

A two-piece golf ball, Titleist has incorporated a softer 3.0 Truflex cover to provide more greenside spin and control. In testing it was also noticeable that it has a springy feel on and around the greens which suggests it has been designed with beginner players in mind. What's more, there was a surprising amount of spin, which only aids the performance further.

Along with the cover, a new TruTouch core has also been introduced to promote longer distance and, although it produced adequate distances with driver in testing, it was always going to be shorter than the likes of the Pro V1. But the TruFeel is half the price of the Tour level golf balls and yet the performance is solid. Overall it is unquestionably one of the  best cheap golf balls  on the market.

Callaway Supersoft golf ball, callaway golf ball with putter, callaway golf ball on grass

The Callaway Supersoft golf ball next to a putter on a green

Callaway Supersoft golf ball

Callaway’s low-compression Supersoft ball, aimed at those with average swing speeds seeking a soft feel, has undergone several improvements. Principle among these is a new hybrid cover featuring what Callaway has christened a Paraloid Impact Modifier. The benefits are improved distance and durability without sacrificing feel and short-game control. Callaway’s famous HEX Aerodynamics cover pattern reduces drag and increases lift to help you launch the ball better. The Soft Compression Core then enhances energy transfer for more ball speed and a high-launch, low-spin combo in your longer clubs. In our testing we definitely felt this was the case and we also saw some receptiveness with approach shots, especially longer irons and hybrids.

Another feature of the ball that we were particularly impressed with was the black background on the Supersoft name that provided a great alignment tool. It is also available in six colors - white and yellow plus matte orange, green, pink and red whilst there are also several cool patterned designs to choose from as well.

Wilson Duo Soft 2023 Golf Ball Review

The Wilson Duo Soft golf ball in black packaging on the ground

Wilson Duo Soft 2023 Golf Ball

The latest iteration of the Duo Soft from Wilson comes with the title of the world's softest golf ball and, with a compression rating of 40, it’s hard to argue against it. To begin with, the Duo Soft is a two-piece, Ionomer covered ball and is one of the best soft feel golf balls on the market.

How is this the softest golf ball on the market you may ask? Well, it comes from a newly formulated core which has been designed to allow for maximum energy return, meaning this ball flies further and launches higher with less effort. In testing, it backed up these claims, producing a towering, high trajectory with every club in the bag. In fact this ball flight really sets this ball apart from the competition and is a model to go for if you want a high flight.

Overall, the performance certainly offers great value for money and we can confidently say it’s one of the  best golf balls for slower swing speeds  we have tested. What's more, it is available in five different colors, including fluorescent yellow and red, making it a great option for winter golf.

Piper Black Golf Ball

A teed up Piper Black golf ball with a driver behind it

Piper Black Golf Ball

Piper Golf has only been around for a little over a year, but its Piper Black golf ball is an exceptional product. A three-piece golf ball with a urethane cover, the Piper Black offers premium tee-to-green performance along with a price point that's much lower than many comparable golf balls.

In our testing, we found the Piper Black to be exceptional around the greens in terms of spin, control, and feel, and it also offered ample distance in the long game. It also feels soft off of the putter but not too soft. Now it should be noted that the Black, according to Piper, fits into the low to mid-handicapper range with a driver swing of around 100mph so that is something to be aware of.

One final aspect we loved was the durability. It proved to have one of the most durable covers of any ball we've tested, which only adds to its already immense value. After full rounds and the comprehensive testing sessions we conducted, the golf ball barely looked like it had been used. It’s as good as anything we’ve tested or played in recent years in that regard.

TaylorMade Soft Response 2022 Golf Ball Review

The TaylorMade Soft Response golf ball in packaging on the ground

TaylorMade Soft Response 2022 Golf Ball

The TaylorMade Soft Response is one of two Response models (Tour Response is the other) sitting beneath the brand's premium TP5 models. Soft Response has been designed with moderate swing speeds in mind, offering all-round performance with a softer feel, courtesy of a soft but durable ionomer cover.

When we managed to get testing done on the ball, we thought the feel off the putter face was sublime and the performance with the wedges was excellent as well. Admittedly those players with faster swing speeds may lose some distance but if your driver head speed is around the 90mph mark, you may well find the long game performance is good.

Overall the TaylorMade Soft Response is a product that promises plenty of feel and performance. Whilst faster swingers may see a drop off in distance at the top end of the bag, slower swingers will still be able to benefit from the superb short game performance without seeing the same drop off. So if you want a quality feeling golf ball from a well-respected brand, without breaking the bank, the Soft Response is definitely a model worth trying.

srixon distance ball and packaging

The Srixon Distance golf ball with red packaging lying on the ground

Srixon Distance Golf Ball

The latest Srixon Distance model boasts a softer compression than the previous version. It is designed to deliver optimum distance via greater initial velocity and a higher launch angle for a penetrating ball flight. The dimple count is down significantly too (108 fewer), which Srixon says will reduce drag and increase lift for better performance in all wind conditions. The durable cover is engineered for greater cut-proof durability. So, how did the Srixon Distance golf balls perform out on the course?

Well we did see a good increase in distance and it also penetrated the air in windy conditions a little better than other models as well, resulting in more yardage. The trade off with this ball is the lack of significant feel when compared to more premium models, although we were pleased it did not feel like a rock, which has often been an issue with golf balls designed purely for distance. Given these golf balls can come with a very low price, they really are a top choice for the golfer seeking more value.

How we test golf balls

When it comes to testing golf balls in general, as the video above shows, we use several members of the Golf Monthly team, who play at a variety of levels, to put golf balls to the test out on the golf course. At Golf Monthly we are all regular golfers and therefore seek to be as honest and insightful as possible in reviews and buyers' guides, so that you can make an informed decision.

We think golf balls have to be tested over a number of rounds because that is how you can test for things like distance, feel, durability, spin and so on. Additionally we should make very clear that no manufacturer can buy a good review because we tell it how it is.

How to choose golf balls

What factors should you consider when buying golf balls? We take a look here.

When it comes to value golf balls this is one of the most important factors. Occasionally cheaper models don't last as long because they cut up, or the cover isn't a high quality. Therefore they do not perform as well, for as long as other models. If you want durability to be a key factor, then check out balls that have firmer covers because they will be resistant to cuts and scrapes. Alternatively if feel is more important than durability, go for models with soft covers.

Long game or short game?

Linking with the above point, which aspect of the game is most important to you? Do you want to get as much distance as possible out of your golf ball or would you prefer a model that allows your short game to flourish thanks to improved feel?

For the former player, firmer and harder golf balls are better for distance, such as the Srixon Distance golf ball. Or, if you put a real premium on feel then models like the TaylorMade Soft Response or Titleist TruFeel are the way to go. Whatever you value, there is a model for you. (Also read our  best soft feel golf balls guide for more models designed for feel.

No longer do your golf balls have to be white, instead they can be different colors like yellow, red, or even green. These colors have different benefits especially in terms of being brighter and easier to see for those who may struggle with their eyesight. Additionally you can get models that have patterns or alignment aids on them as well so these days there are designs for every golfer.

In the value golf ball market there are still different levels and different price points so be aware of how much you want or are willing to spend. Importantly, pretty much all of the models above can be found at different price points depending on the retailer so we would definitely recommend checking different sites to get the best price.

Number of balls

Of course given how cheap some of the models are above, you can occasionally find deals on models that mean you can get 24 or sometimes even 36 golf balls for a cheap price. It is always worth checking this because we could always do with more golf balls in the bag right?

What is the best inexpensive golf ball?

Thankfully there are lots of brands that mae excellent inexpensive golf balls, from the well-known ones like Titleist, Callaway and TaylorMade, to ones like Inesis, Volvik and Wilson. Importantly many of them have been designed to do different things - some are built for distance, some are designed to offer as much soft-feel as possible so be aware of what you want from a golf ball and find a model that matches that.

What are good golf balls for the average golfer?

It is pretty tricky to decipher what an average golfer is but from a handicap perspective this is likely ranging between mid-handicappers to higher ones because that is where a lot of golfers currently sit. As such we have created buying guides on both of those types of player. Specifically we think models like the Titleist TruFeel, Callaway Supersoft, TaylorMade Soft Response, Wilson Triad and Srixon Q-star Tour or Soft Feel balls are good models to consider.

We hope you enjoyed this guide on the best value golf balls. For more golf ball buying advice, check out our guides on the best golf balls for high handicappers , or best golf balls for seniors .

Henry Foster Image

When you set out for a round of golf, chances are you have hundreds of dollars in equipment, golf clothes, shoes, and then you have to pay a greens fee.

This is quite a bit of expense, and it doesn’t get any better when you start losing golf balls.

For some golfers, all of these expenses are going to add up to be too much. The best way to deal with this can be to purchase some cheap golf balls .

Cheap golf balls will at least lower one of the many expenses, and some of them have plenty of performance.

Best Cheap Golf Balls: Srixon Soft Feel Golf Balls

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Great for mid to high handicap players
  • High ball speed
  • Good spin around the greens
  • Low compression core
  • Ionomer cover
  • Hard to find the yellow golf balls for the lower price

The Srixon Soft Feel golf balls have continually made their way to the top of the cheap golf balls lists. The Srixon is known for giving players an incredible feel around the greens while still providing a great value.

This is one of the best golf balls for the money.

The Srixon Soft Feel has a 344 dimple design that is used to try and get players a bit more ball speed than other golf balls on the market. This is a two piece ball that works for those that even have a low swing speed.

The Srixon has an Energetic Gradient Growth Core , which helps players get the distance they need off the tee, great ball flight, and greenside control. This is a lot of performance to pack into a golf ball that is low priced.

Runner Up 1: TaylorMade Noodle Easy Distance Golf Balls

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Straighter flight technology
  • Long distance but soft feel
  • Best cheap golf balls for many years running
  • Durable cover
  • Low greenside spin

The TaylorMade Noodle golf ball has been on the market for quite some time. The idea behind the Noodle is that it is a long golf ball that also feels soft around the greens.

The Noodle does an excellent job for a 3 piece golf ball when a player gets near the green.

The Noodle features an impact propulsion core that helps make it one of the longer golf balls with a low compression core. The Noodle is a distance golf ball , and it has a dimple pattern built for longer carry.

The Noodle has always been one of the best value golf balls that have ever hit the market. With the feel and the performance, this Noodle will likely be around for a long time to come.

Runner Up 2: Wilson Smart Core Golf Balls

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Great for slow to mid swing speed
  • Two piece construction
  • Low drag dimple design
  • Sold in a 24 ball pack
  • A little hard

The Wilson Smart Core Golf Balls come in a pack of 24, so you will have plenty of golf balls to use. The Wilson Smart Core golf balls are a great choice for distance, and they are also offered at a very fair price.

The Smart Core is technology that is going to help a golfer get some extra distance on their shots. Overall the cover is hard, and it will help your golf ball roll quite a bit down the fairway. The ionomer cover helps to add a little bit of durability and feel as well.

Overall, this will be a golf ball with low spin off the tee, plenty of distance, and offered at a fair price. The only major problem that you will get with the Wilson Smart Core is that the spin around the green is not all that great.

Pinnacle Rush Golf Balls

Best For Higher Handicappers

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Fast ball speed
  • Low spin off the tee
  • Soft Ionomer cover around the greens
  • Some golfers feel that the Pinnacle golf ball feels too hard off the tee

Higher handicappers are going to be the golfers who lose the largest amount of golf balls. The best cheap golf balls for higher handicappers will come in 15 or 24 ball packs.

Although the pricing may seem a little higher, it is worth seeing how many balls come with the box.

The Pinnacle golf balls have always been known as some of the best cheap golf balls. Pinnacles are typically quite hard off the tee and will fly a long way. However, when you get closer to the greens, the Pinnacles usually feel rather soft.

The core of the Pinnacle balls is what helps them get their distance . This is a high energy core that has really fast ball speeds.

The Ionomer cover on the Pinnacle helps to make them durable but also gives that classic soft feel around the greens.

You won’t get the spin that you would get from a three or four piece ball, but it should be just enough for the higher handicappers game.

Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls

Best for Lower Handicappers

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Long, straight, and soft
  • New cover is durable and high performing
  • Low compression
  • Fast ball speeds
  • Not as high spinning around the green as many lower handicappers would like.

Most of the golf balls built for the lower handicap players are going to be very expensive. The lower handicap golfers demand performance and low spin from the tee and great feel around the greens.

This is a lot to put into cheap golf balls, and this is why you often see that the pricing gets relatively high, and three and four piece balls are marketed towards the lower handicappers.

The Callaway Supersoft is the best cheap ball for lower handicappers because they feel like a premium ball for a very low price.

The Supersoft features the HEX aerodynamics like many of the Callaway golf balls. This Hex pattern helps the ball stay on a much straighter flight through the air, and it helps it react to spin around the greens as well.

Supersoft golf balls have a new Trigonometry cover formulation that is low compression and has very good greenside control.

Lower handicappers are going to have to pay a bit more to get everything they need in a ball; however, if budget is a concern, the Supersoft is a great choice.

TaylorMade Distance Plus Golf Balls

Best for Average Golfer

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Great for golfers with average swing speeds
  • Cheap golf balls for the distance they provide
  • Low drag pattern
  • React Core for higher ball speed
  • A little harder than something like the Srixon

The TaylorMade Distance Plus Golf Balls offer some of the best value for the average golfer that needs a cheap golf ball. Although the distance plus is cheap golf balls, they will offer a tremendous amount of performance.

The Distance Plus is made with a 342 dimple pattern that is intended to get the ball through the air and stay on a straight path.

With the low spin off the tee, this high performance pattern, and the price, you will be pleasantly surprised with the TaylorMade Distance Plus.

Although this is a ball that could work for a variety of golfers, we like it best for the average player. Most average golfers want a cheap golf ball, so they don’t add to their golf expenses, yet they also need some extra distance and forgiveness in their golf game.

Callaway Supersoft Magna Golf Balls

Best for Senior s

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Built for slower swing speeds
  • Larger than normal golf ball
  • HEX pattern for better ball flight
  • Very easy to see
  • USGA conforming
  • Low spin around the greens

One of the things that make golf difficult for some seniors is being able to see the golf ball. As we get older and eyesight starts to get less sharp, seeing the golf ball can become a concern.

Luckily the new Supersoft Magna can help this problem. The great thing about the Magna is that they are also cheap golf balls.

The Supersoft Magna is an oversized ball, but it is still considered to be a legal golf ball by the USGA. The Magma is engineered in a way that it is going to look larger than a traditional golf ball. This makes it easier to hit and better for a senior’s golf game.

The cover on the Magna is the same trigonometry cover that you will find on the traditional Supersoft. The HEX pattern is also the same to help reduce drag and get a better lift and longer distance. This is a two piece golf ball that will help to improve a senior’s golf game.

Wilson Sporting Goods Tour Velocity

Best for Women

cheapest tour golf ball

  • Good short game control
  • Wilson is a strong bad for women’s golf products
  • Long lasting golf balls
  • Comes in a 15 ball pack
  • Not high spin balls for short game performance

The most important factor for a woman when choosing golf balls is to get something that will work for a slower swing speed.

The majority of women golfers struggle to get as much swing speed as the male golfers. The best cheap golf balls for women will have lots of ball speed and a decently soft feel around the greens.

The Wilson Tour Velocity is a 15 ball pack designed specifically for a woman’s golf game. The cover on the Velocity is quite hard, which helps golfers to get a lot of distance and roll.

When it comes to greenside performance, the Wilson Tour Velocity utilizes a mid compression core . This core helps to get some spin for the golfers that want it around the greens.

However, if you are a lower handicap female golfer, you will want a ball with a bit more speed and versatility than this Tour Velocity.

One of the things we like best about this ball is that it is white. Women’s golf balls are almost always pink, and we don’t feel as though the pink color gives a golfer the best visibility when on the golf course.

Overall this is a great choice for a wide range of women golfers with moderate swing speeds.

Cheap Golf Balls Buying Guide

Now that you have a better idea of the best cheap golf balls on the market, it’s time to figure out which is the best for you.

Although we have put our top picks into different categories, it makes sense to have a little more background information before buying the best golf balls on the market.

Are 2 Piece Golf Balls The Cheapest?

The 2 piece golf ball tends to be cheaper than a three piece. The reason behind this is the materials that are needed to make the golf ball. Since the three piece uses more advanced technology than the 2 piece construction, it is more expensive golf equipment.

The majority of golfers can play with a 2 piece golf ball and have no issues. The tour level golf balls that have more than two pieces are going to usually have a softer feel and have more spin around the green.

The more pieces a golf ball has, the more layers of performance that it can have, and therefore it is something that players are comfortable using.

Golf balls tend to add up in price rather quickly. It is going to be very hard to find a three piece ball that will fit in the cheap category of balls.

Does It Affect Your Game To Play With Cheap Golf Balls?

Many lower handicap players insist on playing with something like the Pro V1x by Titleist. This is one of the higher performing balls on the market, and there is no question; it is better than some other balls out there.

However, unless your game is capable of noticing the difference between these balls, it may not matter which ball you are playing with.

For instance, a 25 handicapper may go out to play with a Pro V1x and a Pinnacle and shoot the same score on each ball. However, there are other players that will notice the Pro V1x saved them a few shots as they made their way around the course.

You will have to experiment a bit to find the best ball on the market for your game. Chances are you will end up with something in the mid price range. Having a balance between feel and price is the smartest way to go.

What Is The Best Golf Ball For An Average Golfer?

Even though the Callaway Supersoft balls showed up on our list of the best cheap balls, it is also one of the best overall golf balls. Average golfers need the ability to hit the ball a long way and make sure that they don’t get high spin off the tee .

High spin can cause a slice to get considerably worse, and it can cause a ball to back up in the fairway as opposed to rolling forward. The Supersoft is an excellent choice for a combination of low spin from the tee and soft feel around the green.

The compression rating on the Supersoft is also quite low, making it a good choice for the low to mid swing speed golfers.

Are Used Golf Balls Any Good?

When cheap balls are discussed, it makes sense to consider used balls as well. Used balls will usually come in a bulk type purchase and be a mix of a few different brand manufacturers.

In a container of used balls, you may get some Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade , and even some older Nike balls.

For new golfers or a player who tends to lose a lot of balls during the course of a round of golf, the used balls are a great choice. However, the trouble is going to be the consistency.

The game of golf has so many unknown factors. The weather changes, your swing changes, the course changes it can be hard to add in a golf ball change as well.

Keeping things consistent and playing with the same balls week in and week out could help you get more consistency in your game.

For the price, the used balls are a great deal; however, they are probably not going to provide the best consistency of performance. With a game of so many variables, it is smart to try and keep some things from changing each round.

By now, you should have a very good understanding of the best golf balls on the market for the price.

Cheap golf balls can be an excellent idea for average to high handicap golfers that tend to lose quite a few balls during the course of a round of golf. If you are looking for a tour level ball, chances are it will be a bit more expensive.

The Srixon Men’s Soft Feel stand out as the best overall cheap golf balls. They have everything from long distance off the tee to a soft feel around the greens. They offer the perfect combination for all skill levels offered at a very fair price.

10 best cheap golf balls 2024, 1. best overall –  bridgestone e12 contact.

Bridgestone Golf 2021 e12 Contact Golf Balls, White, 2021 Model, One Size, 12 count (Pack of 1)

  • Increases friction at impact
  • Boosts energy transfer on rapid ball speed
  • Lowers backspin on long shots
  • The mantle reduces side spin for straighter results
  • It provides a better greenside control
  • It is priced at the top end of the cheap golf balls market
  • The thick cover reduces feedback

Specifications

  • Price Range Per Dozen : $25-$35
  • Type: Distance
  • Construction:  3-piece
  • Cover Material:  Ionomer
  • Compression: Mid

I found the Bridgestone e12 Contact to be the best cheap golf ball overall in 2024.

The Gradational Compression Core is the engine of the e12 and encourages increased energy transfer and reduced spin at impact. As a result, you generate explosive ball speed for a high, powerful launch.

Next, I appreciated the sidespin reduction induced by the mantle, which sits between the cover and the core. The spin reduction helped me achieve straighter ball flight for improved accuracy.

Finally, the Contact Force Dimple pattern raises friction by 38% for a pure strike, leading to a better feel in your short game. This is also the best, cheapest 3-piece golf ball on the list.

Rating: 4.5

2. most affordable –  callaway warbird.

Callaway Warbird Golf Balls (2023 Version, White)

  • Affordable for all golfers
  • It generates a rampant ball pace
  • The aerodynamics fight drag
  • It prompts a high launch
  • Produces greater distance
  • Rock hard feel
  • It provides limited greenside spin
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $18-$22
  • Construction:  2-piece
  • Compression: High

The 2-piece Callaway Warbird distance ball is the lowest-priced golf ball on the list, yet it doesn’t skimp on features. It helps with high ball flight, rapid velocity, and optimal distance .

Modern technology has only improved it, and its extra-large high-energy core compresses easier.

Despite its high rating, the enlarged design promotes exceptional energy transfer from the clubface to the ball, leading to an accelerated pace. I noticed this feature paired well with the drag-resistant Hex Aerodynamics, which elevated the launch for greater carry distance.

Ultimately, it is ideal for a slower swing speed .

best cheap golf balls supersoft matt callcott stevens

  • Produces ample compression at impact
  • Launches high
  • Prompts a soft landing on approach
  • Available in 6 colors
  • Generates rampant ball pace
  • Not ideal for moderate or fast swing speeds
  • Produces limited spin
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $23-$27
  • Cover Material:  Ionomer Hybrid Paraloid
  • Compression: Low

So far, our list has centered around moderate compression golf balls better suited to medium swing speeds. The Supersoft is my pick for the best budget golf balls for slow swing speeds, thanks to its increased pace, low spin, and high flight .

The low-compression rated Supersoft helps slow swing speeds produce increased spring off the clubface for exceptional pace and an elevated launch. Also, the Soft Compression Core lowers spin for greater distance and straighter flight.

The classic Callaway Hex Aerodynamics are applied to the ionomer golf ball cover to restrict drag and elevate lift. This helped me deliver consistent carry distance and a soft landing on approach.

Find more easy striking balls in our review on the best low-compression golf balls for seniors .

best cheap golf ball srixon soft feel

  • Reduces spin
  • Boosts ball velocity
  • Produces consistent carry distance
  • Available in two colors
  • Minimal short-game spin
  • Not the most durable golf ball
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $20-$25

High handicappers will welcome the drag-resistant qualities of the Srixon Soft Feel, which ensures a frequent high launch. Added to its impressive launch capabilities, the Soft Feel provides ample compression at impact for an increased pace .

The 338 Speed Dimple layout is my favorite feature. This component fights drag for increased launch and a highball flight. While it lacks spin, the increased trajectory prompted an aggressive descent for a soft landing.

Srixon engineers concocted the Softest FastLayer Core, which helps the ball snap back off the clubface for optimal compression. This armed me with a combination of rampant velocity and low spin. This makes it one of the best amateur golf balls .

5. Best for High Handicappers –  TaylorMade Noodle Long & Soft

best cheap golf balls noodle long and soft

  • It encourages straighter ball flight
  • Suits slow swing speed
  • Produces optimal compression at impact
  • Generates rampant ball speed
  • Lowers spin
  • No greenside spin
  • They do not suit moderate or high swing speeds
  • Construction:  w-piece

The TaylorMade Noodle Long & Soft has aerodynamic dimples, which help high handicappers with slow swing speeds.

The Impact Propulsion Core promotes maximum compression at contact for enhanced ball velocity. In addition, I noticed the core paired with the durable ionomer cover to restrict spin for a high launch and consistent carry distance .

My shots with a Noodle travel relatively straight and the impact of mishits was mitigated. In my experience, the 342 aerodynamic patterns really do help cut through the air for uninterrupted flight and superior carry distance.

Rating: 3.5

TaylorMade 2021 TaylorMade Distance+ Dozen Golf Balls, White

  • Exceptional distance
  • It produces ample roll
  • Minimizes long-game spin
  • Boosts ball speed
  • Limits drag
  • Minimal greenside spin
  • Not ideal for slow swing speeds

In my experience, the TaylorMade Distance+ is awarded the longest of the best bargain golf balls.

The React Speed Core is the centerpiece, working to accelerate the ball pace and limit driver spin for greater length off the tee.

Next, I appreciated the drag-resistant work of the aerodynamic dimple pattern. The result was higher ball flight and improved carry distance. Furthermore, the lower spin rate propelled the ball to roll intentionally, giving me extra yards on the ground.

Like the other distance golf balls , the lower spin proved detrimental around the greens and on approach. Superior golfers will rue these qualities, but it works for the average golfer with a moderate swing speed.

7. Most Durable –  Titleist Velocity

Titleist Velocity Golf Balls (One Dozen), 12 Pack

  • Durable golf ball cover
  • Restricts spin on long game strikes
  • Provides a playable greenside feel
  • Best suited to moderate swing speeds
  • It is priced higher than its peers
  • Lower spin on approach and wedge shots than I like.
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $30-$35
  • Cover Material:  NAZ + Ionomer

The Titleist Velocity is a well-deserved category winner thanks to its durable LSX Core and NAZ+ cover.

This ball suits average swing speeds, seeking added ball zip and a high trajectory . The LSX Core enhanced energy transfer sped up my ball pace for a considerable long game distance.

In addition, the NAZ+ ionomer cover escalates ball speed and lowers spin on long game strikes. Conversely, it offers greater friction and a playable feel around the greens.

I enjoyed the ball’s 350 Octahedral dimple design. I noticed it fought drag on the up to reach a high apex and promote superb carry yards.

8. Straightest –  Maxfli Straightfli

Maxfli StraightFli Golf Balls

  • It flies 20% straighter than previous Maxfli golf balls
  • Promotes rampant speed on long shots
  • Lowers driver spin
  • It provides limited friction on putts and wedge shots
  • Eradicates workability
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $26-$30

You may find it tough to produce accurate shots as a high handicapper, causing you to spend time in dodgy lies on the golf course. The Maxfli Straightfli’s precise dimple pattern helps less talented players with moderate swing speeds to stay in play.

The standout feature of this two-layer golf ball is its Find The Fairway dimple pattern, which Maxfli suggests flies 20% straighter than their previous models. In my experience, the dimple pattern limited the impact of a hook or slice for greater accuracy.

The ball, one of the best value golf balls, is not the holy grail, but it does minimize the outcome of your mistakes.

9. Best Feel –  Titleist TruFeel

Titleist TruFeel Golf Balls (One Dozen)

  • Very soft feel
  • Greenside control
  • Offers great distance
  • The most expensive of the budget balls on the list
  • Price Range Per Dozen : $24-$29
  • Construction: 2-piece
  • Cover Material: Surlyn/Ionomer

This is our pick for the best-feeling ball for those on a budget. Now, it is the priceiest on the list so that it will be at the upper end of your budget. However, we judge that to be for good reason.

TruFeel technology supports this ball really well. The TruTouch low compression core offers low spin levels and lots of distance . The distance is enhanced by the TruFit aerodynamics. A symmetrically optimized pattern enhances long-game distance.

Also, with these soft golf balls, you get lots of greenside control thanks to the soft TruFlex cover.

10. Lowest Spinning –  Pinnacle Soft

Pinnacle Golf Soft 15-Ball White

  • Low spin for optimal long-game distance
  • Produces impressive ball speed
  • Generates maximum compression at impact
  • Delivers optimal distance
  • Resists drag
  • Offers limited control around the green
  • Durability is questionable

Low spin is essential to produce a consistent, long golf shot. My lowest spinning best low-cost golf balls are the Pinnacle Soft thanks to its backspin resisting ionomer cover. Besides its spin limitations, it produces rampant ball zip and drag-resistant flight for consistent carry distance.

This 2-piece Pinnacle golf ball carries a super low compression rating, a dream for slow swing speeds. I find it easy for slower-swinging golfers to generate consistent ball speed and low spin for an optimal lift.

The final puzzle piece is the 332 Icosahedral dimples scattered around the ionomer cover. In my experience, the dimple design resisted drag, improved lift, and kept the ball flying uninterrupted.

Overall, the Pinnacle Soft is an easy-launching golf ball that gives slow swing speeds the distance boost they desire.

What To Consider When Purchasing Good Cheap Golf Balls

Cheap golf balls typically include two layers, but you can find designs with a third. Two-piece golf balls deliver minimal greenside spin because the core promotes rapid ball speed and low spin.

Conversely, a 3-piece golf ball consists of a core, mantle, and cover. The mantle further reduces spin for improved distance and accuracy.

The compression score of a ball impacts your ball speed and spin capabilities. The lower the rating is, the more a ball compresses against the clubface at impact for an increased pace.

Low-compression golf balls carry a rating from 30 to 60, and mid-compression golf balls stop short of 90. Anything beyond 90 is a high compression score, and the balls are generally better for fast swing speeds. With that logic, low-compression golf balls best favor slow swing speeds.

As you inspect different cheap golf balls, you notice they are generally geared towards producing high flight for optimal carry distance. While this is a common theme, you must consider the shape that best suits you.

If you struggle with accuracy, think about a golf ball with straighter flight, like the Maxfli Straightfli , with its “Find The Fairway” dimple pattern. Alternatively, you could consider the Titleist Velocity  for a more workable ball flight.

  • Ionomer or surlyn covers
  • Often, they are low-compression golf balls
  • Little less distance than an expensive ball
  • Usually spin less than pricier balls

The overall best low-cost golf balls are the Bridgestone e12 Contact , thanks to its straight flight, explosive ball speed, and consistent spin. In addition, the TaylorMade Distance+  is the longest of the cheapest golf balls.

Yes, cheap golf balls make a difference, as most are designed for distance purposes. The best low-cost golf balls are typically 2-piece constructions with an ionomer cover that restricts spin for maximum distance.

While the spin reduction aids your long game, it leads to reduced greenside control, making it difficult to stop your ball rapidly. Conversely, expensive golf balls carry three or more layers that deliver low spin off the tee and high spin around the green.

The average golfer should spend no more than $2.50 on a golf ball, or it is a senseless purchase. At this price per unit, a box costs you $30, and that is as high as you should go.

However, if you are a low handicapper searching for precision, you could opt to spend more on premium urethane constructions.

Refurbished golf balls are okay for weekend warriors who lose countless balls every round and are unphased by imperfections. However, serious golfers should avoid refurbished balls as they do not possess the performance capabilities they once did.

The overall best cheap golf ball is the Bridgestone e12 Contact  for its direct ball flight, consistent spin rate, and accelerated ball speed.

There is your answer on how to reduce golf ball expenses during this time of rising costs. You have ten quality golf balls to choose from that deliver a high launch, accelerated ball speed, low spin, and consistent flight.

In my experience, the Overall best cheap golf balls in 2024 are the Bridgestone e12 Contact  for overall performance. This 3-piece construction prompts increased friction for a better feel on short shots and rapid ball speed off the tee. Plus, its Gradational Compression core restricts spin on long shots.

If you are on a tighter budget, the long-traveling and entry-level Callaway Warbird  golf balls are worth testing. Finally, the longest cheap good golf balls this year are the TaylorMade Distance+ .

If price is no issue for your wallet, you can choose from a heap of the best golf balls  waiting for you to learn about.

Volunteers sort thousands of golf balls by hand at Myrtle Beach Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Volunteers shared a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most tedious tasks at the Myrtle Beach Classic.

Thousands of golf balls are put into a bin each day and sorted out for players on the driving range, and it’s all done by hand.

As players start their day off at the driving range, Richard Miller hops into the “picker” collecting every golf ball.

The part-time job is more of a hobby for Miller, but just when he considered hanging up his keys, he hopped right back into the driver’s seat.

“I was thinking about slowing down and stopping my part-time job, but when they told me the PGA was coming, I said I’ll be there,” Miller said.

Once Miller finishes collecting the golf balls, the tedious work begins.

First, volunteers Mike Jenkins and Henry Morales have to wash the golf balls.

Then, they sort each and every one of them into nine different groups for the pros.

The work starts early and takes hours, but the pair said it’s all worth it.

“This seemed like an interesting area to work,” Jenkins said. “We wanted to get into it, and you get to see some of the players practice.”

“Just to meet the pros you see on TV all the time it’s exciting,” Morales said. “Being able to see them face to face, it’s a chance very few people get to experience.”

Nelly Korda

Thirteen-time LPGA Tour winner Nelly Korda attended the Met Gala on Monday evening. Korda was a guest of Casey Wasserman at the annual fashion event and was dressed by Oscar de la Renta.

This year’s Met Gala theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and Korda stepped out in a stunning ankle-length dress with red and green floral embellishments, complimented with elegant silver jewelry and a simple nude heel. It was the 25-year-old’s first time attending the Met Gala.

Nelly Korda

Korda will be working to collect her sixth straight LPGA Tour victory this week at the Cognizant Founders Cup in Clifton, N.J. She most recently won The Chevron Championship, earning her fifth consecutive win of the 2024 season and second major title in The Woodlands, Texas. The Bradenton, Fla. native is currently No. 1 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings and will be looking to win a second gold medal later this year at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) — Nelly Korda is going to have some work to do to win a record sixth straight LPGA Tour title, especially the way Rose Zhang is playing.

Korda shot a relatively mistake-free 3-under 69 early in the first round of the Cognizant Founders Cup on Thursday and then could only watch as the 20-year-old Zhang tied tghe tournament record with a 63 in the afternoon to take the lead.

In her winning streak, Korda has never trailed by more than eight strokes after the opening round. The 25-year-old was six back in this one with a slew of players ahead of her heading into the second round at the Upper Montclair Country Club.

Rain was in the forecast the next two days.

“There is still three more days,” said Korda, who had four birdies and a bogey. “You still have a lot of things that you — I know the weather is not supposed to be great and there is just different factors that go into the rest of the tournament. So it’s definitely nice to get a good round in. You know, still a long, long ways away from Sunday.”

Zhang also has to be a concern after needing only 25 putts in posting the best professional round of her career. The two-time NCAA champion from Stanford won New Jersey in her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open about a year ago. She has not won since but she played like a champion Thursday, a bogey-free round that included nine birdies.

Rory McIlroy, of Northern Ireland, holds the trophy after winning the Wells Fargo Championship golf tournament at the Quail Hollow Club Sunday, May 12, 2024, in Charlotte, N.C. (AP Photo/Chris Carlson)

Zhang had a two-shot lead over Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden, who set the tournament record in 2022. Leona Maguire of Ireland, Stephanie Kyriacou of Australia and Narin An of South Korea were three shots back and one ahead of Lindsey Weaver-Wright and Mel Reid of England.

“It was almost just auto-command kind of golf,” said Zhang, whose has missed two cuts in six starts this year. “I feel like in the last couple weeks it’s been a little bit difficult. I’ve been struggling a little bit with the golf swing and gaining confidence in my preparation.

“But going into this week I kind of let it all go; let the expectations go a little bit more,” she added. “I was able to free myself up a little bit, which was really nice to see some shots go in, especially on the greens. I was able to get some putting momentum in, so it was really nice.”

Korda, who fulfilled a childhood dream by walking on the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday, played with defending champion Jin Young Ko (72) and 2022 winner Minjee Lee (70). They were followed by about 100 fans, who politely cheered the players. Among the fans were five women wearing black T-shirts with “Everyone Watches Nelly Korda” on the front.

Sagstrom, who finished third two years ago, had six birdies, an eagle and a bogey playing in the first threesome off the back nine. She finished 10th last year.

“This golf course first of all suits my eye really well,” Sagstrom said. “I’ve been playing around with the ball flight a little bit. My coach, Hans (Larsson), is in town. This is the third year he’s here, too. We love the golf course.”

Hannah Green, who has won twice on tour this year, including the JM Eagle Los Angeles Championship in the last tour event, also was at 69 along with Lydia Ko, who needs one more win to make the LPGA Hall of Fame.
