Visiting the Ark Encounter is an unforgettable experience. Nestled in northern Kentucky, this biblical theme park is one of the most unique places to visit in America, regardless of your religious beliefs or background. The Ark offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of Noah and the Great Flood. The site features a full-size replica of Noah’s Ark, interactive exhibits, restaurants, and other attractions.

I visited the Ark Encounter with a group of six other people. We had all heard about the Ark and wanted to see and experience it for ourselves. One of the group members had been to the ark several times and acted as our guide. We found the experience fascinating and it far exceeded our expectations.

In this article, we cover everything you need to know about visiting the Ark Encounter, so read on if you’re looking for tips and advice on planning your perfect trip!

What Is The Ark Encounter, Kentucky?

The Ark Encounter is a one-of-a-kind theme park attraction that showcases a life-size Noah’s Ark replica, the vessel that saved his family and all the animals during the Great Flood, according to the biblical story. The ark is an impressive sight to see. Built according to the specifications described in the Bible, it spans 510 feet in length, is 85 feet wide, and towers 51 feet high. The ark is the largest wooden timber frame structure in the World and an engineering masterpiece.

The Ark is a popular tourist attraction and a magnificent display of craftsmanship, as it was designed to be as historically accurate as possible. The inside of the Ark features multiple exhibits illustrating the story of the Great Flood and its aftermath. Visiting the Ark Encounter is a unique experience and a great way to learn about one of the most iconic stories in the Bible.

Whether you’re religious or simply curious about history, the Ark offers an unforgettable experience. Visitors can explore the impressive structure and learn how Noah and his family saved animals from the flood. There are also various theaters where you can watch movies about the ark and the Bible. It’s a fascinating piece of history and engineering that will leave you in awe of what humans can achieve.

But there is more! Besides the ark, there are several other attractions, such as the Ararat Ridge Zoo located behind the ark, a zip line, and a virtual reality experience, “The Truth Traveler’s A Flood of Reality.” I enjoyed the petting zoo and the virtual reality experience was great fun. It was like being in the ark during the flood.

If you’re into biblical sites, be sure to check out the lost city of Petra .

Where Is The Ark Encounter?

This modern engineering marvel is located in Williamstown, Kentucky , about 40 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio, and north of Lexington, right off Interstate 75. The site is easy to reach by car and ample parking is available.

The site is open year-round, but the hours vary depending on the season, so check their website before you go. Generally, the Ark Encounter opens at 9 a.m. and closes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., depending on the season.

How Long Does It Take To Tour The Ark Encounter?

A common question that many visitors ask is, “How long does it take to tour the ark?” The answer to that question is, “It depends!” You’ll want to make sure you clear your schedule for a good chunk of the day! While the exact amount of time you’ll need will depend on your pace and level of interest in biblical history, most visitors spend around 4–6 hours exploring the various exhibits, shows, and activities.

The Ark is a massive structure that’s over 500 feet long with multiple levels to explore. Many people spend the entire day there. We were there from the time it opened until evening, and we still missed a few things.

There are three decks to view. Deck 1 provides an overview of the biblical ark’s size and teaches where and how items were most likely stored on the ark and how the animals were cared for.

Deck 2 highlights the pre-flood world and focuses on Noah and how God may have prepared him for building the ark.

Deck 3 shows plausible living quarters for Noah and his family, although I doubt they were as lovely as depicted in the Ark Encounter. It also reviews flood geology, what happened after the flood, and a Museum of the Bible exhibit.

There’s just so much to see, from the exhibits and petting zoo to the zip lines and dining options. They even give camel rides. One thing’s for sure — you won’t be bored at the Ark Encounter!

Animal exhibit at the Ark Encounter

The Exhibits Inside The Ark Encounter

After you are welcomed by a thunderstorm, you enter the spectacular inside of the Ark which consists of three decks, each one stacked with exhibits. On the first deck, you can see exhibits of animal cages and how the animals were cared for.

The next two decks feature numerous exhibits of life on the Ark and also life after the Flood Decks 2 and 3 have short video presentations that you can stop and watch in the provided seating area.

Each exhibit has such detail and an enormous amount of information to read, that you could spend hours taking it all in.

Admission To The Ark Encounter

To enter the Ark Encounter, you need a ticket, which you can purchase online or at the ticket counter on arrival. We bought our tickets in advance to avoid the line waiting to purchase.

The ticket includes access to the Ark Encounter exhibits, restaurants, and other attractions.

The prices vary depending on age, with discounts available for children, seniors, and groups. Kids under 10 are free for 2023. Some attractions like “The Truth Traveler’s A Flood of Reality” have an additional fee.

Dining At The Ark Encounter

The site has several restaurants and food options, ranging from fast food to sit-down dining. You can find typical American fares, such as burgers, fries, and pizza, as well as healthier options, like salads and vegetarian dishes.

When I visited, we ate at Emzara’s Kitchen , a two-story family buffet-style restaurant. The prices were reasonable, and the food quality was excellent. There is also a snack stand near the Ark, where you can grab a quick bite.

Be aware that the restaurants at the Ark Encounter tend to get crowded during peak hours, so plan accordingly.

The Ark Encounter’s Ararat Ridge Zoo

If you grew up near a large zoo in a big city, then Ararat Ridge Zoo will come across as really tiny. Nonetheless, it is another fun option at the Ark Encounter and your family will like it.  You can walk through the area to see kangaroos and several other animals.

There’s a petting zoo, camel rides, and additional attractions. Your kids will also love the large playground area. The Ark Encounter also took the extra steps to include a fossil find and camel rides and feedings.

Let’s move on to our Ark Encounter tips for to help you make the most of your visit!

Tips For Visiting The Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky

If you’re planning a trip to the Ark Encounter, you’re in for a treat! Our Ark Encounter tips will help you prepare and best use your time.

Plan A Visit During Off-Peak Times

Try to visit the Ark Encounter during off-peak times. Mid-week and off-season will help you avoid large crowds and make your experience more enjoyable.

Visit The Ark Encounter Website

Before your trip, verify the days and hours of operation before your trip. Check for special pricing options and special events that might make the ark extra crowded on the day you plan to attend.

Plan For A 4- To 6-Hour Visit

Plan to spend at least a half-day at the Ark Encounter. There is much to see and do with various galleries and exhibits, plus an outdoor area. You don’t want to rush through and miss things. We visited for an entire day.

Purchase Tickets In Advance

Purchase tickets online to save time and money.

Wear Comfortable Shoes And Clothes

Wearing comfortable shoes is a priority. You will be doing a lot of walking both inside the ark and outside. The Ark Encounter is wheelchair accessible. There are wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers available for rent. There is a lot of movement, so comfortable clothes are essential.

Beat The Crowd

The Ark Encounter opens at 9 a.m., so arrive early to explore all the exhibits before they become crowded. We arrived around 9 a.m., and there was already a line, but we had purchased tickets in advance, so we didn’t have to wait.

Download A Map

Download the Ark Encounter map ( PDF ) or pick one up when entering the ark. It provides helpful information and provides instructions for downloading their app.

Bring A Camera

The Ark Encounter has several great photo opportunities.

Ark Encounter ziplines

Bring Sunscreen, Sunglasses, And A Hat

If you plan to be outdoors in the zoo or ziplining, be sure to bring sunscreen and remember to apply it, and wear your hat and sunglasses when heading outdoors.

Consider A Combo Ticket

Consider buying a combo ticket that includes access to the nearby sister attraction, the Creation Museum .

Pro Tip: I highly suggest the combo ticket for both the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. Go to the Creation Museum (and the Creation Museum gift shop) on the first day and then the Ark Encounter on the second. The Creation Museum lays the groundwork for the Ark information.

Most importantly, remember to have fun! You’re visiting a great place to learn about Noah’s adventure, ride the zipline, pet the animals, and spend time with family and friends.

Rainbow arch as you exit the Ark Encounter

Visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum is an educational, engaging, and awe-inspiring experience. The site has something for everyone with its stunning full-size Noah’s Ark, fascinating exhibits, and diverse attractions including the museum gift shop.

Ark Encounter is operated by Answers in Genesis, a YEC organization that also operates the Creation Museum 45 miles away in Petersburg, Kentucky. The park was founded by Australian Ken Ham, founder and CEO of AiG.

How Big Is the Ark Encounter?

At 800 acres, the Ark Encounter is bigger than Disneyland. Ark Encounter features a life-size replica of Noah’s Ark, constructed according to the dimensions specified in the Bible. The recreation of Noah’s Ark is one of the biggest tourism draws in Northern Kentucky.

Was The Ark Encounter Expensive to Build?

It was expensive, yes. For all phases, the entire Ark Encounter cost over $100 million, including $62 million from the Williamstown bond offering and $36 million from individual donations from AiG through its supporters. The average donation was $230 from 42,000 small donors and it took a little more than one year to build.

Is the Ark Encounter Close to the Creation Museum?

Yes. The two locations are just under an hour away from each other. While the Ark Encounter complements the Creation Museum, it is a special destination and both attractions could hold the interest of guests for the better part of two days.

Is the Ark Encounter Open the Year Round?

Yes. The Ark site and the Creation Museum are open year-round, with slightly reduced hours during the winter months. It is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. The attraction can be quite busy, particularly on holidays and weekends. Children 10 and under get free admission.

Ark Encounter and Creation Museum: Eye-Opening Kentucky Attractions

Have you heard about the amazing Ark Encounter and Creation Museum in Kentucky? Let me tell you, their websites don’t do them justice! I visited both attractions and was blown away by the experience. If you’re planning a visit, here’s what you need to know: these places are truly thought-provoking and incredibly well-done. You can tackle both in a day if you’re up for it, but I recommend planning for at least two days to fully immerse yourself.

Get ready for an unforgettable journey into the mysteries of creation.

Arriving at the Creation Museum

My dad (81) and I arrived at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, a few minutes before it opened. The parking lot was already getting busy, but we managed third-row parking. The parking fee is $15 per day, and the structure and organization of it and the check-in process reminded me of going to Disney .

As we strolled along a beautiful, nature-filled path, we were in awe of the grandeur of this magnificent place. The lobby, as soon as you step inside, will take your breath away. With captivating exhibits that can easily rival those at the Smithsonian Museum, you’re in for a treat.

If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, head over to the ticket counter for a seamless experience. And if you’ve already got your tickets, just proceed to the friendly ticket taker and let the adventure begin!

We picked up tickets and also a property map and Today’s Schedule showing what the changing events and live music were. Guest Services was most helpful in helping us decide what would work into our allotted time since we were doing both attractions in one day.

The Wondrous Exhibits

I’ve not toured many religious attractions, and not sure there are many. Still, the Creation Museum was as state-of-the-art as any major museum you could visit. The exhibits ranged from thought-provoking to compassionate and informative to draw your own conclusion on the creation science subject.

My dad and I roamed the floor, room to room, soaking up the gist of the materials and taking loads of pictures. Even 20 minutes after opening, the museum was bustling, but the traffic flowed.

displays-at-the-creation-museum-kentucky

Rightfully so, the beginning event in the 75,000-square-foot facility was a walk-through life-size Adam and Eve display. This area probably generated the most buzz amongst the guests during our visit to the property.

adam-and-eve-exhibit

The Flood displays dove into the science of how it affected the rocks and geography across the continents and there was an exciting dinosaur skeleton viewing of Ebenezer, the full-size Allosaurus.

We headed back to the Stargazer Planetarium (30-foot-diameter dome) for our show time and watched  Created Cosmos , which will run $9 for adults and $6 for children 5 to 10. The show runs eight times a day. I’m all about learning things that will help me answer Jeopardy questions.

This one was high up the food chain with loads of scientific information about astrology and the solar system but delivered it in a way that anyone and all ages could understand. A second show in the planetarium,  Aliens: Fact or Fiction?  was also playing three times a day.

Did You Know?  The Creation Museum dives into the holiday season with Christmas Town, a unique light display, and a living Nativity for experiencing the true meaning of Christmas.

Special Offerings and Tickets at the Creation Museum

General admission tickets are $49.95 per adult for the Creation Museum alone. Seniors save $5. Youth tickets 11 to 17 are $29.95. Right now, kids under 10 get in free; a great deal. If you choose to do both attractions in the same week, one day at each, the price is $94.95, $84.95, and $54.95, respectively.

For $15 more, you can get a 3-Day Bouncer Pass, which gives you unlimited visits to the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum for one week, plus unlimited parking at both parks.

Notable events of the day included the Creation Museum’s beloved TrueSong , an all-man band with smooth harmonies and outstanding vocals. When they sang “I’ll Fly Away,” the audience was nearly unglued.

The music programming may have been my favorite part of the whole Creation Museum experience, and these talented musicians have a way with the crowds without making it feel too powerful.

truesong-concert

Guided tours of the botanical gardens, speaking engagements on subjects such as extraterrestrials and wildlife, a keeper chat about Kunekune pigs, and powerful drama video presentations were other museum offerings.

The Creation Museum’s botanical gardens feature a stunning three-acre lake, accessible trails, enchanting waterfalls, a delightful butterfly & hummingbird garden, and a plethora of beautiful blooms.

lily-pond-kentucky

Of the many gardens on the Creation Museum property, my favorite was the Dry Creek Garden, with red maple trees and several colorful flower displays. The Koi Pond Garden offers the best photo ops.

deck-and-picnic-tables-creation-museum

Thrill seekers will appreciate the Screaming Raptor Zip Lines and the aerial adventure course.

Last but not least is the Eden Animal Experience, with wallabies, donkeys, goats, coatis, and alpacas. Don’t miss the dinosaur topiaries designed by Buddy Davis.

Making the Drive to the Ark

The Ark Encounter is roughly 40 minutes from the Creation Museum in Williamstown, Kentucky. While I would typically eat at the museum (museums have excellent food these days), I needed more content about the area, so we went to a local eatery.

I had my eye on the Tousey House Tavern’s Kentucky Hot Brown, the state’s iconic dish, in Burlington, but they were closed for a private event.

Pro Tip: Need more to do in Kentucky? I’m a big fan of the Kentucky Horse Museum and the plethora of attractions in Louisville .

replica-noahs-ark-encounter

Not to fear, next door, the Washington Square Cafe was a great second choice. We ate on the lovely outdoor patio and enjoyed the fresh country air and really good food. I had the grilled cheese with tomato basil soup while my dad feasted on a chicken bacon ranch wrap.

I might add we had excellent service, too. The Washington Square Cafe is in the Joseph Graves historic home, circa 1817, which added to its charm.

washington-square-cafe-patio

Pro Tip : Order a side of the sweet potato fries with a side of the mouthwatering maple bacon bourbon cream sauce. This sauce could win first prize in any contest!

washington-cafe-lunch-sandwiches

Looking for places to eat and shop at the Creation Museum? Look no further! At Noah’s Cafe, you can feast on delicious burgers, salads, and sandwiches. Plus, they offer gluten-free and vegetarian options.

And if you have a sweet tooth, you absolutely can’t miss Uncle Leroy’s Fudge, made right in a copper kettle. It’s a favorite among visitors and my dad still talks about how good that fudge was.

But that’s not all. In addition to great dining options, there are also three fantastic shopping spots to explore. Check out the Legacy Store, Fair Trade Marketplace, and Dragon Hall Bookstore for unique finds and souvenirs.

The Ark Encounter Tips and Beginnings

My dad and I arrived and parked at the life-size Ark Encounter, a seven-story high and 510 feet long authentic replica of Noah’s Ark , around 1 PM. We made our way to the ticket counter to pick up our tickets, though you can also get them digitally.

Once we were all checked in, we entered the queue for the shuttle bus that delivered us to the pathway leading to the Ark. The scenery through Monument Walk is beautiful, with tall ornamental grasses swaying in the breeze, butterfly-attracting plants, and perfect photo spots for remembering your Ark visit.

bus-to-the-ark-encounter

I recommend that anyone ride the elevator to the top floor and then work their way down on foot. With this enormous property, there is much to see and do, so you need a plan to keep it from being overwhelming.

well-marked-parking-lot

On Deck 3, we explored the ark’s living quarters, addressed some of the fascinating stories of the Bible, and learned about the symbolic Rainbow Covenant. The aftermath of the Great Flood was also up for discussion.

Moving down to Deck 2, we transport ourselves to the pre-flooded world, discover who Noah was, marvel at the various animals in cages, and have a chance for a kid-friendly spooky animal encounters exhibit. Plus, you can catch a show in the impressive theater.

ark-encounter-photo-op

Deck 1 is where you’ll find ark storage, gain an introductory understanding of animal kinds, and marvel at a detailed model ark. Take a moment to appreciate the donor wall, as well.

On the Ground Level, fine the pre-show and entry lines, browse an enticing gift shop, and make your exit. There are plenty of restrooms, including family restrooms and nursing rooms for your convenience on each floor.

Displays Throughout the Ark

Each floor of the replica Noah’s Ark is chock full of fabulous things to see, storyboards to read, and ideas to ponder about how Noah and his family survived the 40-day flood. I never really thought about what was at the ark property in Kentucky; I was just excited to see the beautiful structure in person. Wow, what a unique treasure!

noah-display-at-the-ark

Cages with animals are displayed to show their sheer size, and detailed information about how they were fed, managed and cared for really intrigued me. The kitchen area, where the food was prepared for everyone aboard, and the animals, too, was incredible; I could have stayed here soaking up the details and visuals for hours, but we were under a time constraint.

fairy-tale-ark-section

The “meet Noah’s family” portion of the Ark was again reminiscent of several attractions at Disney’s Epcot theme park, with animatronics used for the family members. It was eye-opening to see the size of the bedrooms and the things they might have done to keep occupied during their 40 days and 40 nights onboard the Ark.

A few questions answered in deep detail at the Ark Encounter are how the animals fit on the ship, how it stayed afloat, and whether the ark was real.

Tickets and Special Offerings at the Ark Encounter

Tickets for the Ark Encounter are $59.95 for adults, $49.95 for seniors, and $29.95 for youth aged 11 to 17. Children under 10 are free. See combo ticket prices and information above to tour both the Ark and Creation Museum.

Rentals are available for wheelchairs, strollers, and electric scooters, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Use ArkEncounter for free Wi-Fi.

Kids and families seemed to really love the children’s playground and Ararat Ridge Zoo, with ostriches, sloths, kangaroos, and lemurs. My dad and I walked through and admired many of the exotic animals.

A children’s petting zoo is also available, as are animal keeper chats and shows. Camel rides and encounters are also available for a nominal fee.

ararat-zoo-animals

Then, there is the Animal Kinds Carousel, which my granddaughter would have loved. There is also a 2500-seat Answers Center theater setting with daily programs and live speakers, films, and concerts. We did not have time to visit this area.

A second thing at the Ark Encounter we did not have time for was the Truth Traveler Virtual Reality, where guests travel back in time to witness Noah’s legacy. Guests must be 40″ or taller to enjoy this attraction. Again, nominal fees apply.

Fun Fact:  The ark is made of various kinds of wood, such as spruce, Douglas fir, bamboo, and pine.

Dining at the Ark Encounter

You’ll find food for all tastes at the Ark Encounter. They have everything from tacos and hot dogs to pizza, BBQ, and buffets. My dad and I enjoyed an early dinner at the two-story-themed Emzara’s Kitchen, an all-you-can-eat buffet experience in a lovely and spacious setting.

Just to give you an idea of what the food offerings were, we chose from about 15 sides, 25 salad items, a whole bar of desserts, baked ziti, fried chicken, and baked steak.

buffet-restaurant-the-ark-encounter

The buffet runs $16.99 for adults, $14.99 for seniors 60+, and $8.99 for kids 5 to 10. Younger children are free. Kudos to Emzara’s Kitchen for having food sensitivity options and a kid-friendly buffet area.

food-at-the-ark-encounter

Other dining options at the Ark Encounter include Zofar’s, The Village Smokehouse, Southwest Grill, and Olive Leaf Cafe. You will find a great coffee selection (Kezia’s), and more yummy Uncle Leroy’s Fudge at the gift shop, plus a host of great souvenirs and must-have items. You can grab Kettle Corn and ice cream at kiosks outside the Ark.

I loved experiencing both the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, and hope you and your family will have a blast at these unique religious attractions.

Creation Museum Indoors

The Ultimate Guide To The Creation Museum

The Indoors at the Creation Museum is home to several massive galleries, a state-of-the-art theater, eateries, cafes, and gift/bookshops. The indoor exhibits at the Creation Museum are organized in two levels – Upper Level and Lower Level. While most of the attractions at the Creation Museum are included with the admission tickets, a few of them require separate tickets. Below, I have highlighted the major attractions in the upper and lower levels and also indicated where you would need to purchase additional tickets.

Upper Level : A short trail from the Welcome Center will take you to the main Museum Entrance, which further leads to the Upper Level of the Creation Museum, where you will start your Museum exploration.

  • Guest Services : To make the most of your visit, start by checking in at the Guest Services desk located on the right-end corner of the upper level. Here, you can inquire about the 4D show timings, held in the Special Effects Theater, and purchase tickets for attractions not included with your admission. By doing this, you can efficiently plan and time your exploration of the Indoors at the Creation Museum.
  • Main Hall : Just past the Guest Services, the beautifully decorated Main Hall, featuring a waterfall and pond with fish and turtles and lined with replicas of dinosaurs, serves as the staging area for the Dragon Hall Bookstore, Stargazers Planetarium, Noah’s Cafe, Special Effects Theater, and the entrance to the main museum walk-through biblical history.
  • The Walk Through History : The centerpiece of the Creation Museum, The Walk Through History is the main exhibit where you get to witness biblical history through world-class and life-like displays based on “The 7 C’s of History” that represent the significant events that have affected or will affect the universe – Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Christ, Cross, Consummation. The Upper Level showcases the sections – Creation, Corruption, and Catastrophe and leads you to the Lower Level, which features the remaining sections – Confusion, Christ, Cross, and Consummation.
  • 4D Special Effects Theater : The state-of-the-art Special Effects Theater at the Creation Museum offers stunning 3D shows and is included with your admission tickets. I recommend checking the show schedules  online  or at the Guest Services desk and then planning the rest of the activities at the Museum.
  • Stargazers Planetarium : Although the general admission doesn’t cover the Planetarium shows, I highly recommend them to anyone interested in stargazing. The Stargazers Planetarium at Creation Museum is equipped with a 30-meter-diameter tilted dome and state-of-the-art laser projectors that offer incredible shows. The presentations feature insights from astronomers and scientists who explain how what we observe in the night sky confirms God’s Word in Genesis.
  • Dragon Hall Bookstore : The Dragon Hall Bookstore on the Upper Level offers a wide variety of books, videos, apparel, toys, and other items that could make for a great souvenir of your trip to the museum.
  • Dining Options : The Upper Level at the Creation Museum has two dining options, both accessible from the Main Hall: (1) Noah’s Cafe, which serves salads, burgers, wraps, and sandwiches, and (2) Noah’s Coffee and Ice Cream, offering freshly brewed coffees, lattes, teas, and ice cream.

Lower Level : The Walk Through History exhibit at the Creation Museum spans across the Upper and Lower Levels, with the Lower Level also featuring several other exhibitions, a bookstore, and a couple of eateries.

  • The Walk Through History : The Creation Museum’s Walk Through History exhibit is an extensive attraction that stretches across both the Upper and Lower Levels of the museum. The Walk Through History exhibit in the Lower Level continues to elaborate on Catastrophe, followed by sections with exhibits dedicated to Confusion, Christ, the Cross, and Consummation.
  • Legacy Store : The Legacy Store in the Lower Level offers a vast collection of books and videos for purchase.
  • Borderland : The Borderland exhibit is one of the newer additions to the Creation Museum, which features several artifacts, videos, paintings, and life-size models that showcase Israel as it was during the first century, the time when Jesus lived.
  • Buddy Davis’ Dino Den : The Buddy Davis’ Dino Den is a popular section among kids that showcases seven different dinosaurs and describes their designs from a biblical perspective, making it one of the most intriguing and beloved sections of the museum.
  • Dr. Crawley’s Insectorium:  In the Lower Level of Creation Museum, you can explore Dr. Crawley’s Insectorium, an interactive exhibit featuring an impressive insect collection. The exhibit owes its remarkable collection to Dr. Geoff Crawley, a renowned creation scientist who spent his lifetime collecting insects from different parts of the world.

The Outdoors at Creation Museum, encompassing a large area, features several Botanical Gardens, the Eden Animal Experience, a Children’s Playground, Zip Lines adventure, Mining Sluice – a gem mining experience for kids, and several nature trails. While access to the several Botanical Gardens, Eden Animal Experience, and the Children’s Playground at the Creation Museum is included with the admission tickets, the other outdoor activities require separate tickets. Below, I have highlighted the major outdoor attractions at the Creation Museum and also indicated where you would need to purchase additional tickets.

Botanical Gardens : Creation Museum is home to several themed gardens featuring a vast collection of flora and fauna portraying God’s magnificent creation! Each garden represents a different ecosystem and offers a unique experience. While there are twelve different gardens at the Creation Museum, here are some of the best gardens you must explore at the Creation Museum –

  • Bog Garden : Featuring a Bog Bridge atop a muddy landscape, the Bog Garden is home to several perennials at the Creation Museum.
  • Butterfly Hummingbird Garden : Home to several bright and nectar-producing flowering plants, the Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden is a must-see at the Creation Museum.
  • Koi Pond Garden : The Koi Pond Garden, a Japanese-inspired garden featuring several Japanese plants, a charming wooden bridge, and a serene Koi Pond, is one of the most popular gardens at the Creation Museum.
  • Lake Garden : One of the most beautiful and unique gardens at the Creation Museum, the Lake Garden features Water Lotuses, various shrubs and flowering plants, a picturesque arched bridge, and even a floating bridge.
  • Rainforest Garden : Featuring several tropical plants, including banana trees, Giant Reed Grasses, Weeping Alaskan Cedar, and Big Dipper Elephant Ears, the Rainforest Garden offers an authentic rainforest experience.
  • Woodland Garden : Surrounding a waterfall, the Woodland Garden is home to several native trees, including hackberry, Black walnut, Serviceberry, Cedar, and Redbud.

Eden Animal Experience : You shouldn’t leave the Creation Museum without visiting the Eden Animal Experience! The Eden Animal Experience, included with admission tickets, features a family-friendly zoo, an exciting attraction for kids and adults alike, allowing us to interact with unique animals up close and see and appreciate God’s diverse creation.

Children’s Playground : Specially built for the little guests, the Creation Museum features a state-of-the-art Children’s Playground, access to which is included with admission tickets and is a must-visit for families with kids. The Playground is situated near the Eden Animal Experience and is designed to cater to children of all abilities, making it an inclusive and welcoming space for children with diverse disabilities.

Zip Line Adventures : While it’s not included with admission tickets and requires separate tickets, the Zip Line adventure at the Creation Museum is a top-rated attraction featuring over two and a half miles of zip lines soaring above the Botanical Gardens and thrilling sky bridges.

Mining Sluice : Yet another popular attraction with kids, the Mining Sluice at the Creation Museum offers several mining adventures for the little ones who can discover and learn about rocks and minerals through the various mining experiences available for an additional cost and not included with the admission tickets.

Planning Your Trip To The Creation Museum

Planning Your Trip To The Creation Museum Kentucky

Flying into Hebron in Kentucky, staying overnight in Hebron or Cincinnati, and visiting the nearby Ark Encounter is the best way to get the most out of your trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky!

Best Time To Visit The Creation Museum : Though Kentucky has cold winters with some snow, the majority of exhibits at the Creation Museum are indoors, making it a year-round destination. However, summer is the busiest season at the Creation Museum and the best time to enjoy the several outdoor attractions, including the petting zoo, Botanical Gardens, Zip Line Adventures, Kid’s Playground, and several nature trails. If you are okay with slightly cooler temperatures, visiting in fall, winter, and spring is a great way to beat the crowds at the Creation Museum.

Time Required At   The Creation Museum : To fully experience the Creation Museum, I recommend spending a full day exploring both the Indoors and Outdoors. While the indoor exhibits can be seen in half a day, the outdoor attractions, such as multiple Botanical Gardens, Eden Animal Experience, Zip Lines, Kid’s Playground, and Mining Sluice, require additional exploration time.

Getting To The Creation Museum : The best and the most convenient way to get to the Creation Museum is by flying into Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport in Kentucky, located just 8 miles from the Creation Museum, and then renting a car and driving to the Museum. Alternatively, you could also take an Amtrak train or a Greyhound bus to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then drive to the Creation Museum.

  • Flight : The Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), Hebron, Kentucky, about 8 miles from the Creation Museum, is the closest international airport to the Park. You could also fly into Dayton International Airport (DAY), Dayton, Ohio, around 80 miles from the Creation Museum.
  • Train : The closest Amtrak station to the Creation Museum is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is approximately 25 miles from the Museum.
  • Bus : You could take a Greyhound bus to Gilbert Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is located about 26 miles from the Creation Museum, and then rent a car and drive to the Museum.

Parking & Passes At The Creation Museum : Creation Museum offers paid onsite parking to visitors, and you would need to pay for parking on your way to the parking lot or show your parking tickets if you already bought your parking tickets online while purchasing your admission passes. Once parked, you can head inside the Welcome Center, buy your entry passes, if not already bought online, and also purchase tickets for additional attractions, including the Zip Line, Mining Sluice, or a combo ticket for the sister attraction, the  Ark Encounter .

Lodging Options Near The Creation Museum : Given Creation Museum’s proximity to Cincinnati, Ohio, you could stay in one of the luxury hotels in Cincinnati or stay in one of the chain hotels or bread and breakfasts in the town of Hebron in Kentucky. Here’re my top picks for hotels near Creation Museum

  • Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter
  • Radisson Hotel Cincinnati Riverfront
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Hebron
  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Hebron

Dining Options At The Creation Museum : The Creation Museum features quite a few dining options, including the Noah’s Cafe, Noah’s Coffee and Ice Cream, Uncle Leroy’s Fudge, and Tree of Life Cafe, which are open year-round, serving comfort food, snacks, and beverages and the seasonal Palm Cafe, Grand Plaza Pizza, and Terrace Grill.

Other Attractions Near The Creation Museum : When visiting the Creation Museum, I highly recommend visiting its sister attraction, the  Ark Encounter , situated just 45 miles south of the Creation Museum. You will also find a ton of other things to see and do in Northern Kentuck, which you can find in my  Kentucky Travel Guide .

Visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum

creation museum how long to tour

This summer we took our family on a road trip! It was our first big vacation . We started off visiting a friend in West Virginia (so fun) and finished with visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum.

Tips for visiting the ark encounter and creation museum with your kids! These ideas will make your trip the best!

The Ark Museum is in Williamstown, Kentucky, halfway between Cincinnati and Lexington and right off I-75. The Creation Museum is in Petersburg, KY which is west of Cincinnati.

Our kids loved it! It was a great experience and I wanted to share a little about our trip, some tips, and what I think the ideal age(s) are to visit the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter.

On this trip our kids were: 7 1/2, 5 and 4 months, and 2 1/2.

Homeschooling perk – we planned our visiting for weekdays after the school year started. I highly recommend doing this if possible.

You won’t avoid crowds entirely (you’ll quickly discover both places bring in many, many tour buses) but they weren’t bad at all.

Tickets, Parking, Planetarium Shows, Schedule

Tickets aren’t exactly cheap – especially to the Ark. There aren’t any ways to get stellar deals. Just buy the combo ticket and enjoy your trip.

(Kids that are 4 and under are free!)

At the Creation Museum you have the opportunity to buy tickets to two different Planetarium shows (first costs $9 and the second will cost $5). We talked to the gentleman at the ticket counter and he recommended that we not buy tickets this trip. The material would be way over the kids’ heads. We decided to listen to his advice and it worked out well. On a trip when the kids are older we’d maybe get them. If you decide to purchase Planetarium ticket purchase when you first arrive or risk them being sold out!

When you purchase a ticket for The Creation Museum (individually or as a combo with the Ark Encounter) it is a two day ticket.

This is how we planned our visits:

  • Day 1: Creation Museum (open to close)
  • Day 2: Ark Encounter (open to close)
  • Day 3: Creation Museum at opening for a few hours

We were very happy with that decision and would do it again that way. I also heard from other people that planned their visit in that order and liked it as well.

Both places were less busy after lunch. The majority of the tour buses seemed to arrive at opening and left early afternoon.

You will have to pay for parking at both parks.

$5 parking at the Creation Museum $10 parking at the Ark Encounter

Both places have restaurants, cafes, food stands etc. The Ark Encounter has many more options. We heard the buffet at the Ark Encounter raved about by so many people. When you are feeding 5 people, costs of eating out quickly add up. So we chose to not purchase food on location.

We packed a cooler with our lunch and left it in the car. Around 12 -1 on both full days we took the bus or tram back to the car and ate a picnic lunch in the car before returning back inside.

I would recommend also packing some snack items and throwing them in your purse or diaper bag. The kids were thankful for them in the afternoons. They are also light enough that they aren’t bad to lug around all day.

There are drinking fountains near most of the bathrooms, but a water bottle is also nice to have.

Ideal Kids’ Ages

In case you were wondering when to take  your kids to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, especially for someone like us who doesn’t live near Cincinnati, I recommend the following.

First Visit:  I’d recommend your first visit to be when your oldest is at least 7 – probably in the 7-9 range. This trip worked out when our kids’ ages was perfect. When your oldest is old enough to read, understand, and discuss with. They are starting to think analytically. They are still young enough to be amazed and this will make a huge impression. The younger kids are still learning and in awe and you can feed them facts in bite sized chunks.

Second Visit:  I’d plan a second visit when your oldest is in high school. At this age it will be a completely different experience for them than it was 10 years ago. They will understand the information on an entirely different level and will be going through the exhibits with a different perspective. If they are questioning or doubting, this would be a great way for them to grasp Creation.

I think this is a great place to take your kids to twice. Now, for the disclaimer. There is nothing wrong with going when your kids are 4, 2, and 1 (or whatever). Especially if you are doing it for your sake – because you want to learn and experience it. I just think if this is a big trip you will likely only do once (or twice) it is better to wait until your kids are slightly older. 🙂

We did lots of hunting. Both hotels and rentals. If your family needed two hotel rooms, renting a small house might be the more economical way to go. For us, a hotel room was all we needed.

Florence is a nice city in between Petersburg (Creation Museum) and Williamstown (Ark Encounter). Lots of hotels, restaurants, stores etc.

We ended up finding a hotel on Hotwire in Erlanger, KY near the Cincinnati airport: a Holiday Inn with an indoor pool. No pool and no microwave (did have the mini fridge) but we were happy with it.

Florence was where we went to the grocery store to get stuff for breakfasts, packed lunches, and suppers.

Visiting the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum:

At the entrance to the Creation Museum

Let’s dive into the creation museum. You will purchase your tickets and receive your wristbands in the parking lot. Even your free kids 4 and under will need a wristband and ticket.

Put on your wristbands and after taking the tram or bus to the museum (so be sure you are ready to fold your stroller) you can enter without needing to do anything.

There is a nice lobby area with displays on dragons. The Planetarium is also near the entrance and a restaurant.

Inside the Creation Museum. This is where the Planetarium and 4D theater are. There is also food options.

A new 4D Theater showing the film In Six Days opened up not long before we visited. It is free and very well done. The kids loved it. You use high tech 3D glasses and the story of Creation is captivating. My older two kids loved it. They saw it both days we went to the museum. You will need to do this first thing or after you’ve gone through the museum since once you enter the exhibit area, the museum is one way. We did it right after we arrived both times.

In the new 4D theater

(If you do the shows in the Planetarium you’ll will probably want to schedule them for right after you arrive or for several hours later.)

Once you are done with the 4D show keep going down the path and you’ll enter the exhibits and traffic flow becomes one way.

Through the Garden of Eden in the Creation Museum

We went through the exhibits reading (and/or paraphrasing) the information cards to our kids. Our 7 year old read a lot of them herself. We tried to go slowly and have the kids enjoy, learn, and observe things.

Lower Level of the Creation Museum

As you go through the museum the floor actually slopes down to a lower level.

By the time we were at the lower level and the main exhibits were finished, the kids were hungry and it was time for a lunch break. (There are also food items to purchase right there.) We headed to the car for lunch.

After lunch we went to the outside petting zoo first. They were doing construction in the garden area but the zoo was still open.

We then went and started the museum exhibits at the beginning and just went through it more quickly. The kids enjoyed checking out their favorite things again.

Back at the lower level there is an Insectorium, Dino Den, and Bible Museum Exhibit. (I don’t know if the Bible Museum exhibit is permanent or temporary but it was interesting for adults to go through. The kids didn’t spend much time in there.)

In the afternoons there is a story time and Animal Encounter. Perfect for younger kids.

Check the schedule of events each day because there are also presentations and movies shown in the lecture hall throughout the day.

The Creation Museum has two book stores.  One on the lower level (where the lecture hall entrance is) with not as many things but it much more spacious and then the main, extensive book store on the upper level that you will pass through as you leave the museum. There are so many resources that it can be overwhelming. The book store manager was super helpful, though. Be sure to ask with any questions.

The museum was open from 9am-6pm. We arrived in the parking lot shortly after 9 and were there until shortly after 5.

Second Day at the Museum

The day after we did the Ark Encounter we went back to the museum for a few hours. The kids wanted to watch In Six Days again, so we did that and then they were able to go through the exhibits again and revisit all their favorites.

Ark Encounter

creation museum how long to tour

Our Ark Encounter day was a blast. You will most likely have to drive a ways from your lodging to get there (our trip was a little over 40 minutes). The museum opens at 9, so be sure to get up and going.

The Ark is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Driving up to it was exciting.

The parking lot is quite a ways from the actual Ark. Once again, you will buy tickets, or use the tickets you already bought at the creation museum, to get your wristbands. Then you will wait in line for a big bus.

Ark Encounter Parking lot

You are dropped off closer to the Ark and go by bird cages, great places for photos where you can get the entire Ark in the shot, and numerous food options.

This place is built for crowds in peak months. The queue line is such that it can wind back and forth when it’s busy. We didn’t have to wait in any lines and simply walked up the ramp to the bottom floor of the Ark.

There are bathrooms and drinking fountains on each of the three floors.

On the all the floors you make your way around the ark. Some exhibits are on the inside and some near the exterior walls.

creation museum how long to tour

The second and third floors both have their own 25 minute movie looping. They are open theaters with bench seats and no enclosure on one end of the ark. My 2 1/2 year sat through them, but they were over her head. The other two enjoyed them.

You see so many animals in their cages and learn about how Noah and his family would have lived on the ark and how the whole ark thing could have worked – how it was a feasible possibility! The ark could have actually housed and taken care of all the animals.

creation museum how long to tour

You walk past many cages like this with animals that might have been on the Ark.

It was after 1:00 by the time we made it through just the first two levels.

We took a lunch break in the car and then came back and did the petting zoo before heading back inside the Ark.

We did a faster re-walk through of the first two floors and then did a thorough visit of the third level (be sure you don’t miss the live animals that are at the back end of this level – llama and porcupine were out when we were there).

creation museum how long to tour

We finished off in the gift store. There are books but not near as many as the Creation Museum. The Ark Encounter shop is more of a gift shop and the Creation Museum more of a book store. (Though of course they both have some overlap.)

The Ark Encounter also has a huge fair trade section in their gift store.

By the time we left the gift store, it was minutes from the 6pm closing. Another full day.

creation museum how long to tour

This really was a fabulous trip! Shaun and I enjoyed it and the kids all loved it. If you are a Christian, or even just interested in learning about young earth Creation, how Noah built an ark and how caring for all of the animals might have worked, I highly recommend you put it on your travel list!

If you have any questions as you are planning your trip, be sure to ask and I can let you know what we did or thought. 🙂

Your post is really helpful! Thanks. I would like to ask for your advice as we are planning to visit the ark and creation museum next year in July .We live in the UK and I was just wondering if you could please help us plan our travel there? Which airport do you think will be best? We are coming from Manchester UK. When we get there would you recommend us renting a car or will there be a public transport available??? I look forward to hearing from you, this will be our present to our son who will turn 8 years old in April next year. I would like to plan it ahead of time.

Many thanks.

The hotel we ended up staying in Erlanger, KY was close to the Cincinnati airport so that airport might be a good option to look into. If you will be visiting any other areas you can always check prices at airports near them as well. The museums (especially the Ark) are in more suburban/rural areas, so renting a car would probably be your best option. Such a fun trip for your family. My kids talk about wanting to go back again. I’m sure you noticed from looking on the Creation Museum and Ark Encounters website that their ticketing details have change in the last year from when I went – I need to update those details in the post. I hope you all have a great visit!

what season did ya’ll visit ?

We went the Tuesday-Thursday following Labor Day! Such a fun trip. I did notice that they restructured their tickets and pricing recently.

Hi Deanna, Thanks for the helpful info. We are planning a trip soon, and I was wondering why you were able to go back to the Creation Museum again on your third day. Did you have to purchase another ticket? I understood that the combo ticket was good for one day at each museum. Thanks for your help.

Oh no! When we went, that’s how it worked. They might have updated their ticket structure in the last year. I’ll have to look into it and update the post. I hope you have a great visit.

Hotel Accommodations

Requires Extended Amounts of Walking

Today we travel to Grove City, OH for our overnight lodging at the Drury Inn & Suites. The light fare Kickback Dinner will be available at the hotel this evening from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will travel to the Ark Encounter, a one-of-a-kind historically themed attraction. In an entertaining, educational, and immersive way, it presents a number of historical events centered on a full-sized, all-wood ark, which is the largest timber frame structure in the USA. Dozens of exhibits within the ark will bring to life the biblical account of Noah's Ark. Enjoy the day learning how and why Noah built the ark from Noah himself, see what the animals in Noah's time looked like, and visit with modern day animals at the petting zoo. You've probably seen pictures of Noah's Ark in children's books, complete with giraffe heads sticking out of the top. The real Noah's Ark, the one described in the Bible, was huge. It was amazingly seaworthy - a ship that kept the occupants safe during a year-long worldwide flood. Prepare to be astonished as you explore the life-sized reconstruction of Noah's Ark! After our visit, we will depart for Dry Ridge, KY, for our overnight accommodations. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Following breakfast, we will visit the Creation Museum. This huge state-of-the-art facility brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and in familiar settings. You can also take in a theatre presentation with special effects which takes you on a fantastic quest to find the real purpose and meaning of life. Lunch is on your own and available at Noah's Cafe. You can visit the Petting Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and Bookstore. There is so much to do at the Creation Museum! Our lodging for this evening will be at the Drury Inn & Suites in Grove City, OH. The Kickback Dinner will be available 5:30 - 7:00 pm this evening.

This morning we will check-out and depart for home. With stops for rest and lunch, arrival home is scheduled for later this evening.

Please note

Our intention is to run each tour as originally planned and published. However, if deemed necessary to do so, Perkiomen Tours reserves the right to make changes to tour components, schedules or itineraries without prior notification. Tips for Perkiomen motorcoach drivers and tour escorts are not included in the price of this tour. We feel that these gratuities should be extended on an individual basis and dictated by the level of service provided. Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but cannot be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Historically, daily seat rotation was practiced on most multi-day tours. We have suspended this practice for a period of time. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort if reinstated. Perkiomen Tours recommends that you consider purchasing Travel Insurance for your tour. Travel Insurance is purchased directly by you from a third-party of your choice. One option is Travel Safe Insurance. You can purchase insurance directly from Travel Safe through our website. www.perkiomentours.com. To fully participate in this tour may require extended amounts of walking. There may be steps, inclines, uneven surfaces or extended periods of standing. Participants with physical limitation should take this into consideration.

Creation Museum Questions & Answers

creation museum how long to tour

I would say, most of the day for adults.

creation museum how long to tour

Just walking through the exhibits alone took us 4 hours. We did not do any of the other indoor action because there were no children with us. However, if I had my grandchildren with me we would have done ALL INDOOR and OUTDOOR activities. So I would say 2 days minimum with kids.

creation museum how long to tour

I really have no idea how long it would take. It was mid--day (our tour bus was asked to see everything outside first because so many tour groups were inside.) When we did go in it was so crowded with people many who had power chairs, wheel chairs, and baby strollers, that we couldn't get close enough to read the boards. Music was too loud! It made me claustrophobic and I couldn't get out fast enough. I advise if you plan to go plan to be there first thing in the morning.

creation museum how long to tour

We spent all day there. There are lots of extra activities to do there, which I would highly reccomend.Don't cut your time short!

We visited the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum on Memorial Day. We arrived at the Ark Encounter at about 10 am, and spent just about three hours making our way through the museum. Then, we arrived at the Creation Musem at about 2:30 pm, and spent about two and a half hours going through the museum. Without a doubt, we could have spent more time at each place (we didn't watch any of the movies, or take our time reading every piece of literature), but, with three kids (ages 7, 4, and 1), we feel like we maxed out our time at each place. When we were entering the Creation Museum, the gentleman taking our tickets said that we could get through in one and a half hours, or could spend three days inside if we read everything, so, as you can tell, the amount of time you spend really depends on how long you'd like to be there. But, with young kids, you can certainly get through both in one day, if that's what you're hoping to do.

We spent a whole wonderful day there. There are activities going on all day.We didn't want to miss anything.Spend a day if at all possible.

creation museum how long to tour

My husband and I went, so we were two adults without children. We spent two days there. We took our time, saw everything, and totally immersed ourselves in the experience. I saw someone else say you could see it in two hours. No way. Taking small children would mean a much shorter stay for you. It is not Disney World. I think you might want to wait until the kids are about eight years old if you really want them to appreciate this attraction. Having said that, it is perfectly okay to go as a family, but small children really won't get the main point of this museum in my opinion. I loved the fact that it was so educational, intellectual, and deep. Yes, there are areas for children, but it might not satisfy the adults if you have small children and can only stay for a few hours. Your call.

creation museum how long to tour

The actual tour will take about two hours if you read the information boards, however there is a planetarium show, live concert and other activities that are well worth the time, you could spend entire day. The gardens on the outside are are also worth seeing. A lot will depend on how crowded the museum is and how you time your visit, asking one of the guides will give you some great pointers on how to arrange your time.

creation museum how long to tour

At least a couple hours. If you can go to the Ark, it is longer but better I thought. Both are thought provoking

creation museum how long to tour

Creation Museum can be done in one day or less, taking as much time as your schedule/interest permits. Yes, as commented by others, the concert was enjoyable. Be sure to include.

creation museum how long to tour

We saw the museum exhibits in several hours. We went two days, because of the additional events, which change daily. Thoroughly enjoyed Buddy Davis concert. He is very talented and has a great testimony.

The museum itself can be done in a few hours. We spent 2 days there in order to see the extra movies and events, which change daily. Thoroughly enjoyed Buddy Davis event. He is talented and has a wonderful testimony.

creation museum how long to tour

It all depends. It's whatever speed you want. We went to the Ark and Creation museum in the same day.

But we also had littles wowithth us that caused us to speed though

I think this is probably best considered a day trip. Late morning arrival a few outside exhibits, lunch (a fairly robust buffet) and the 2-3 hrs touring the ark - if not crowded - and then ziplines for a late afternoon thrill. But pack your walking shoes and your wallet. This place is not for the faint of wallet!

creation museum how long to tour

it was not crowded when we went and we went through in about 3 hours. We did not do any shows or extras. We also didn't read every word!

  “An Adventure of Biblical Proportions!”

** THE ARK ENCOUNTER:    A full-sized replica of Noah’s Ark, this magnificent structure is 510 ft. long and more than 50 ft. tall – and that’s before the “fin” is added (dimensions as in Genesis 6)!!  Built in large part by Amish craftsmen, this massive wooden structure is the largest wooden timber structure IN THE WORLD, and considered an architectural and engineering wonder containing 3 decks of world-class exhibits!  *(Fun fact:  NASA could lay 3 space shuttles, nose to tail, on the Ark’s roof alone!)  But seeing it from the outside is just the beginning… Inside, the Ark includes hundreds of fascinating displays, Noah’s study, living quarters, cages, storage vessels, recreations of how Noah and his family may have lived, animals… and even an animatronics version of Noah that will answer questions.  Learn about such things as “How long is a cubit?” and “Was Noah’s Ark really found on Mt. Ararat?… and also visit a petting zoo, view many excellent amphitheater shows and additional educational productions throughout.  ~ Absolutely stunning!!

** THE CREATION MUSEUM :  This 70,000 sq. ft. “walk thru history” museum is an alternative to the evolutionary natural history museums.  See how its interpretation of the Bible – “the history book of the universe” – provides an account of the beginning of all things.  As you enter the Time Tunnel, be transported back 6,000 years to the dawn of time.  Encounter a realistic Garden of Eden, flood dioramas, and a multitude of stunning video displays thru-out your journey.  Exploring this world-class museum, you’ll see fossils, holograms, a full-size Allosaurus skeleton, plus lovely botanical gardens.  Relax in the 4-D Special Effects Theater as you watch Genesis 1 come to life – really neat!  SO much to see & do here.  Privately funded with over 140 state-of-the-art exhibits, this journey proves how science confirms Biblical history, no surprise to us!

** PRIVATE DINNER CRUISE & GOSPEL MUSIC :  Enjoy a 2-hr. cruise on Ohio River aboard one of the Queen City Riverboats with yummy food and feet-tappin’ music!  Did you know Gospel Music means “good news”?!  Sing along to “Go Tell It On the Mountain”, “How Great Thou Art”, “I Believe” and so many other favorites.  (* This event requires 30 to run – if less than that, there will be a substitution ).

**ERNIE HAASE & SIGNATURE SOUND: This year during our time at the Ark, they’re holding the “World’s Largest Christian Music Festival” for 40 days and 40 nights – how appropriate, You’ll have opportunity to hear one of the most popular and beloved quartets in all of Southern Gospel music.  This Grammy-nominated and GMA Dove Award-winning quartet has traveled all over the world offering energy, excitement and encouragement, and it’s your turn to be inspired! *Note: The concert is optional -if you prefer to continue perusing the Ark’s Exhibits, you are free to make that choice!

**PATRIOTS LANDING:  A new addition this year, we are very excited to support this Veterans Complex and Training Center giving our wonderful Vets a chance at a real future.  Shop in the “Products with a Purpose” store, talk to the veterans and know that 100% of any purchases go back into the program!

. ~~ Please Note:  Both Museums Require Extensive Walking ~~ You can walk at your own pace,

creation museum how long to tour

Please note: The following are TLC's general polices and procedures that cover all of our tours, so some of these may or may not be applicable to this particular tour.

On all overnight tours, we use a daily seat rotation. The first day of a trip, you choose your seat when you board, and rotate from there. We feel this is fair to all. If the coach is not full, a less formal rotation may be used at the Escort’s discretion. Persons traveling single or with uneven amounts in their group may need to sit with other like-travelers. We cannot guarantee that small groups will be seated together. We welcome single travelers, but the single rate does not include two seats on the coach. * We cannot accept doctor’s notes regarding requests to sit in the front seat/s. Please consider boarding at the first pickup location if your seat location is of concern. It is also recommended to see your doctor for motion sickness medication, if this should apply.

Smoking/Drinking:

We make regular stops for restrooms and for the convenience of smokers; however, we have a NO SMOKING (or vaping) policy aboard all coaches. If someone violates the non-smoking policies of places we are staying or visiting while on tour, it is the sole responsibility of that person should there be any penalties and/or fines for not adhering to their rules and regulations. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted at any time on the coach.

Transportation:

All of our tours use beautiful modern, deluxe wide-body motorcoaches from Campbell Bus Lines . Campbell has received the highest possible rating with the Dept. of Transportation. The motorcoaches are equipped with air-conditioning, reclining seats, public address system, DVD player, outlets for each passenger, and emergency restrooms. Our intent is for all overnight tours to be professionally escorted. Upon occasion, in order to avoid canceling a trip with a low passenger count, our Driver may serve both positions of Driver and Escort, and all are professionally trained to do so. ~ Also, on air trips with low passenger counts, we will not be able to provide an Escort from our company. However, once you arrive at your destination, a guide from our connecting company will be with you throughout the entire tour.

Lodging and Meals:

Your lodging is included on all overnight tours. All hotels are AAA rated. We never use second rate hotels, restaurants, or activities on any tour, to the best of our ability to make that determination. If you need two beds in your room, please state this when making your reservation. Generally, some meals are included on overnight trips (see individual tour inclusions); however, we cannot guarantee any special dietary requirements.

Border Crossings:

As of June 2009, a Passport or Passport Card is required for border crossings. Either of these travel documents may be obtained through your local courthouse. The Passport Card is limited but is sufficient for Canadian border crossings and is good for 10 years – it is also very easy to apply for. Your Driver and/or Escort will be asking to see one of these documents before boarding the coach for trips with this requirement. We cannot be responsible if you are unable to travel due to failure on your part to obtain the proper documentation. Please begin the process early enough to ensure that you will have it in time for your tour’s departure. Click here for for more information .

One suitcase per person is included in the price of your tour. You are also permitted a carry-on, which is your responsibility. Additional luggage may be transported at the cost of $10.00 per bag, per day. It is wise to travel light. Luggage tags are provided and required for hotel identification and are sent with the final letter and phone numbers of your hotels.

Medical Devices:

Medical devices must be handled by you, the passenger.  They are either to be stored under your seat (not protruding out into the person’s space behind or in front of you), or if too large for that accommodation, they must be placed under the coach by you, and taken off at each place it’s needed by you.  It is not safe for a medical device to ride in an overhead compartment for multiple reasons, nor are our Drivers or hotel personnel allowed to handle it for safety and liability reasons.  If it needs to ride under the coach, please have it in a quality container (as small as possible) to assure it rides safely.

Taxes and Gratuities:

All taxes and gratuities for included meals and activities are included, unless otherwise mentioned by the Escort. Driver and Escort gratuities are not included in the price of your tour. The suggested rate for a “job well done” is a minimum of $4.00-$4.50 per person/ per day for the Tour Escort, and a minimum of $4.00-$4.50per person/per day for the Driver. We request that you express this on an individual basis and let the quality of service received be your guide.

All prices listed are per/person rates. On one day tours, full payment must be made with the reservation. For overnight tours, see “How To Make A Reservation”. Balance of an overnight tour is due 45 days prior to departure (unless otherwise stated/notified). Confirmation will be sent after we receive your deposit. Please call as soon as possible if you should decide not to go.

FYI :  About a week before your overnight trip departs, you will receive from our office a letter packet with updated itinerary, passenger list, departure and return times, luggage tags, hotel phone numbers, and other pertinent information.

1 – Our intent is to have all our tours accompanied by one of our professional Escorts –  However, occasionally a low passenger count may make it necessary to send that tour out as “Driver Only” in an effort to ensure that the trip you wanted to go on does not have to be cancelled.  Please be assured our Tour Drivers are first-class professionals, capable of handling any trip we offer from beginning to end.  You will be in great hands and have a wonderful time!

2- Please Note – We’re truly sorry if we’ve canceled a trip that you wanted to go on.  Sometimes excellent trips with super itineraries are canceled when people wait ‘til the last minute to put in their reservation.  OUR monies are usually due at least 45 days ahead on regular trips, and sometimes 90 on certain ones.  If we don’t have enough signed up at that time, we have no choice but to cancel it.  Then when you call later, it’s already too late… and disappointing for us all!  Please help us and CALL EARLY – Thank you so much.

3- The information about trips on this website (funwithtlc.com) is complete.  It contains the same information that a paper flyer has.  However, if you prefer a paper flyer you can call for Fully Detailed Flyers for Most Trips of 3 Days or More. We’ll gladly send extras for you to pass along to your friends!  We will also happily send a Tour Book to anyone you feel would enjoy receiving one.

Up to 45 days prior to departure date, a full refund will be made. *Air and cruise tours, and some longer tours, may be different—be sure to ask for details when making your reservation. Tours including tickets also generally have earlier non-refundable dates. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 45 days prior to your departure date. However, we will do our best to recover as much as we can, but cannot guarantee anything including prepaid reservations and other costs that are non-refundable to us. There will be a $25.00 per/person charge for this service. There will be no refund, for any reason, for a “no-show” on the day of the tour.

Please Note: Refunds will be made by the same method you paid us, e.g., if you paid by credit card, the refund will be put back on that credit card. No exceptions.

TLC Tours offers a “Refund Protection Plan” for overnight tours that is available at our office at a minimal cost. It needs to be purchased when you book your trip. This insures you a full refund in case of:

  • A.) a death in your immediate family (requires a copy of death notice)
  • B.) personal illness (requires a doctor’s written note confirming you were too ill to travel)
  • C.) Exceptions would be made if an immediate family member’s serious illness necessitates you staying home but would still need confirmed by a doctor’s note. *Immediate family, in these situations, includes spouse, parents or children only.

Call our office for full details about TLC’s RPP. We encourage you to take advantage of the protection plan, or secure insurance on your own if you prefer “cancel for any reason” coverage. Our Refund Protection Plan is not available for Day Trips, nor are there any refunds for Day Trips, with a few exceptions.

Cancellations:

TLC Tours reserves the right to cancel any tour that has not reached a minimum number of reservations. We always avoid changes and cancellations, if at all possible, as we realize the inconvenience to you, our valued customer. We reserve the right to cancel or refuse service to anyone, in our sole discretion. Any person may be dismissed from a tour at any time by the Tour Escort or Driver should their conduct be problematic in any way. No refund will be made, nor will any further responsibility be assumed by TLC Tours or anyone in their employment.

Responsibility:

TLC Tours, LLC is insured. Campbell Bus Lines is registered and insured with the ICC. TLC Tours acts only as an agent. We are not responsible to any person for any loss of time or money due to a change or delay beyond our control. Nor are we responsible for non-performance by those we have contracted with. We reserve the right to change tour prices, inclusions, and itinerary, if so, dictated by circumstances beyond our control. We are not responsible for pricing, typographical, or other errors. Any claims against TLC Tours must be made, in writing within 30 days of the trip.

HOW TLC IS ADDRESSING COVID/VARIANTS FOR 2024

We are so thankful that much of our country has ‘opened up’ and we are back to being able to travel freely, for those who desire to get out & about again.  While rejoicing over such good news, there are still a few things we must remain aware of that are listed below.  We believe these things are a very small price to pay to be “On the Road Again’! ~ Thank you for your gracious understanding and kind cooperation as we wisely embark on wonderful memory-making journeys together this year!

A- There are a few parts of the country that are still enforcing a mask mandate in their particular area. Please tuck a mask in your pocket just in case we should arrive somewhere and find out unexpectedly that we are required to wear one for entrance.  We continue to pledge to be good neighbors and help these establishments stay open by cooperating with whatever they are required to ask of us, and to do it with a good, kind spirit.  If you’re not in agreement with this, please refrain from traveling with us at this time.

B- At this writing, all the places we plan to visit are open for business. However, as mentioned above, that can change by the time we arrive.  Should there be some place that is not able to take us, we will do our very best to substitute an activity or attraction of an equal quality.  We just have to “go with the flow” again this year somewhat – but trust me, every single place we plan to visit WANTS to be open for us and will be doing everything they can to do so.

C- We ask that you take your own temperature before leaving home on the morning of Day One, and if you show any fever at all, please stay home. If you have additional/other symptoms that suggest Covid-19 or a variant, we ask that you please stay home.  If you have been around someone with Covid-19/variant, or highly suspected Covid-19/variant, we ask that you please follow the CDC guidelines according to their timeline, and possibly stay home.  Any of these methods are somewhat dependent on the “honor system”.  We trust that our upstanding TLC customers will “do the right thing” and not put anyone else at risk for contracting Covid or a variant on a TLC tour.

D- Should someone come down with Covid during or after their tour, we assume no responsibility or liability. We cannot control every minute of everyone’s day, nor can we control how people handle themselves when off the coach. We have done our very best to secure accommodations and venues that state the highest sanitation protocols to the best of their ability. If on tour you should come down with Covid-19 or a variant, or strongly suspect it, you would be responsible to quarantine yourself and arrange for transportation home when appropriate. — By traveling with us, you are agreeing that TLC Tours, LLC will not be held responsible for contracting Covid-19 or a variant, nor liable for any expenses involved in any way.

E- If you do need to cancel at the last-minute because of having covid/variant, being exposed to covid/variant, or suspecting a possible case of covid/variant, our normal cancellation policies apply, just as they would to any other last-minute illness that prevents you from going on a tour. See General Information/Refunds in this book.  Without insurance, there is no refund except what we might be able to get back from individual vendors on your behalf.  We highly suggest taking out either our in-house Refund Protection Policy, or another more comprehensive insurance plan of your own choosing.

Overall, please lovingly respect the concerns of others if they differ from yours.

Some may have health issues that cause them to be more cautions than you may feel is necessary for yourself.

– Here’s the best plan: “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Others Do Unto You!” –

ON THE COACH

( 1) Every Campbell coach is completely disinfected before they depart for a trip. You can be assured that the bus that arrives to pick you up has been thoroughly cleaned with an environmentally friendly solution that is EPA-approved, and not diluted or mixed at our facilities.  The solution is rated on the EPA K-List that supersedes the current EPA suggestion for elimination of Corona Virus and has no harmful properties.  It has received the Green Seal certification.  The solution is applied with electrostatic sprayers to increase coverage to eliminate all pathogens on hard surfaces.

(2) We have upgraded all air filters and increased the frequency that we change the air filters on the coach to reduce contamination.  Our motor coaches refresh the air on the coach every five minutes, and combined with the upgraded filters, will reduce stale used air in the coach.

( 3) We have UV lights in our HVAC system to eliminate any airborne pathogens.

( 4) Disinfecting wipes available for the Driver & Escort, and hand sanitizer on board for your use.

( 5)  Should the situation regarding pandemic conditions rise during the year, we are prepared to increase the level of our procedures accordingly.

For TLC OVERNIGHT MOTORCOACH TOURS:

For most overnight tours, a full refund will be made up to 45 days prior to departure date. However, some of our tours, especially the longer ones, may have a 60-day cancellation date.  The specific date will be listed on your confirmation which you will receive in the mail once you make your reservation. Tours including tickets may have earlier non-refundable dates – please inquire when making a reservation for a tour that includes tickets. There are no refunds for cancellations made within the 45 (or 60) days prior to your departure date. However, we will do our best to recover as much as we can, but cannot guarantee anything including prepaid reservations and other costs that are non-refundable to us. There will be a $25.00 per/person charge for this service. There will be no refund, for any reason, for a “no-show” on the day of the tour.

** Please Note: Refunds will be made by the same method you paid us; e.g., if you paid by credit card, the refund will be put back on that credit card. No exceptions.

TLC’s REFUND PROTECTION PLAN for Overnight Motorcoach Tours :

TLC has an in-house “Refund Protection Plan” which we offer for overnight motorcoach tours through our office at a minimal cost .   It needs to be purchased when you book your trip . This insures you a full refund in case of:

  • ) A death in your immediate family (requires a copy of death notice)
  • ) Personal illness (requires a doctor’s written note confirming you were too ill to travel)
  • ) Exceptions would be made if an immediate family member’s serious illness necessitates you staying home, but would still need confirmed by a doctor’s note.  *Immediate family, in these situations, includes spouse, parents or children only.

The RPP covers you up to the morning of departure; however, you must call your Escort (number will be provided) that morning before your pick-up time in order for the RPP to be valid.  She will need to call all the places the tour is going to change the passenger counts.  Failure to call the Escort that morning cancels your RPP coverage.

Feel free to call our office for full details about TLC’s RPP. We encourage you to take advantage of the protection plan, or secure more comprehensive insurance on your own, if desired.

TLC “FLY TRIPS”:

For any of our tours that involve flying, the connecting companies we use for our air tours offer their own insurance plans and instructions.  You will find that information listed on each tour’s page and/or flyer near the respective pricing and other pertinent details.  It is up to you, of course, whether or not you choose to take insurance out, but it is highly recommended.

PLEASE NOTE: Sometimes excellent trips with super itineraries are canceled when people wait ’til the last minute to put in their reservation. OUR monies are usually due at least 90 days ahead on “fly trips” and at least 45 days ahead on regular trips. If we don’t have enough signed up at that time, we have no choice but to cancel it. Then when you call later, it’s already too late… and disappointing for us all! Please help us and CALL EARLY – Thank you so much.
