View of Eiffel Tower from Louvre Museum

Eiffel Tower is 3.5 Kms (2.1 Miles) from Louvre Museum, on the other side of the River Seine.

A taxi can cover this distance in ten minutes.

If you decide to walk, you will need around 45 minutes. It is a nice walk, with the river crossing at Pont Royal (Royal bridge).

From Louvre Museum to Eiffel Tower

To get to Eiffel Tower from the Louvre Museum, you have four options: the Metro, the bus, the taxi, and a nice leisurely walk.

Paris has an evolved Metro service, and almost every place has a metro station within 500 meters (1/3 of a mile).

To get to the Eiffel Tower by Metro, you must board Line 1 train from Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre station and first reach Franklin D. Roosevelt station.

From Franklin D. Roosevelt, you must board a Line 9 train to Alma-Marceau Station, from where the Eiffel Tower is approximately 15 minutes by walk.

The whole journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

Louvre to Eiffel Tower by Metro - via Franklin D. Roosevelt

The other option is to get down at Charles de Gaulle–Étoile , the next station.

From Charles de Gaulle–Étoile, you can board a Line 6 train to Bir-Hakeim Station, from where the Eiffel Tower is approximately ten minutes by walk.

The whole journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

Louvre to Eiffel Tower by Metro - via Charles de Gaulle–Étoile

Because of the change in trains, we don’t recommend you take a Metro.

If you are short on time and money isn’t an issue, we recommend taking a taxi.

It is the fastest way to go from the Louvre Museum to the Eiffel Tower.

It isn’t easy to hail a taxi in Paris, but you can look for the  nearby taxi stand . There are approximately 750 taxi stands in Paris, so one is always nearby.

Taxi companies such as  Centrale Taxi Paris ,  Les Taxis G7 , etc., offer online booking.

Taxi fare - Louvre to Eiffel Tower

However, we recommend Uber. Compared to the local Parisian taxis, most tourists find Uber drivers more polite, on time, and more reliable.

For approximately €13, an Uber can drop you at Eiffel Tower.

To get to the Eiffel Tower, bus No 72 is highly recommended by both the locals and the tourists.

This bus runs along the river Seine, and you get to see its numerous bridges and the city’s monuments along the route.

Route of bus No 72 in Paris

It is best to board the bus from the  Palais Royal Musée du Louvre bus stop , and after nine stops, get down at  Pont d’Iena bus stop .

From Pont d’Iena stop, Eiffel Tower is 11 minutes walk across the river Seine.

For the latest bus routes and timings, check out RATP , the state-owned public transport operator.

If you have lots of time on hand, the weather is good, and you are healthy, walking to Eiffel Tower isn’t a bad idea.

But remember, you may have just walked a lot exploring the various galleries of The Louvre.

The 45-minute walk is right along the Seine, and hence beautiful.

Walking from Louvre to Eiffel Tower

Louvre and Eiffel Tower combo tours

If you don’t mind an additional activity, there are a few combo tickets, which include access to both the Louvre Museum and Eiffel Tower.

This tour starts in the morning with a visit to the Eiffel Tower.

Before parting, the guide also hands over your tickets to the Louvre Museum and the 1-hour Seine River Cruise.

After you have seen the city’s stunning views from the top of the Eiffel Tower, you get down to board the cruise.

The boarding dock is just below the Tower.

After seeing the sights of Paris, head to the Louvre Museum for a dose of the world’s most magnificent art.

Visit Paris by taking metro line 9

Porte de Saint Cloud station is located across from the giant Parc des Princes and Jean Bouin stadium . It’s the easiest and fastest way to get there, especially on nights where there are events and PSG matches.

Recently renovated, the wonderful Molitor pool can be reached by getting off at the station Michel-Ange Molitor .

The next station, Michel-Ange – Auteuil , takes you to the Bois de Boulogne . Given the park’s large size, you may want to transfer depending on where you want to go.

This will take you to the park’s north side much faster.

Heading north along the banks of the Seine, Paris metro line 9 stops as Trocadero station . If you want to get to the Eiffel Tower , it’s the perfect stop to enjoy an unbeatable view. Once you exit the metro, cross the Jardins du Trocadéro then the Seine to get to the tower.

Continuing along the Seine, the stop Alma Marceau is a few steps from the Palais de Tokyo . Get off at this station to go to the wide avenues, the Champs Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe. It’s an excellent way to go for a walk in the capital. However, if you want to get there faster, you can get off at Franklin D. Roosevelt station located on the Champs Élysées at the corner of the Jardin de la Nouvelle France. This stop is also the one if you want to visit the Grand Palais or Petit Palais.

Continuing to the south of the city, the line 9 runs along the Boulevard Haussmann, stopping at five stations: Saint-Augustin, Havre – Caumartin, Chaussée d’Antin – La Fayette, Richelieu – Drouot and, finally, Grands Boulevards. Along two and a half kilometers, the line 9 will take you to the part of the boulevard that you want to get to quickly.

The line then continues to the north of the Paris region. Its last stop, Mairie de Montreuil, is located next to the Grand Angle shopping center.

The remarkable stations of the line 9

Since the metro’s centenary, Bonne Nouvelle station has been an homage to cinema . Here you will find information on cinema displayed as if you were in a museum. The “Bonne Nouvelle” typeface channels the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.

The ceiling of Chaussee d'Antin La Fayette station is decorated with a huge 470m2 fresco featuring La Fayette and Washington signing their cooperation treaty . The New World is represented by a child, and Liberty is shown in the shape of a woman.

While getting off at Richelieu Drouot, you can contemplate the war memorial of the Compagnie du Chemin de Fer Métropolitain. This memorial pays homage to the victims of the First World. The monument was designed by Carlo Sarrabezoles in black marble. Inaugurated in 1931, the inscription "Libération" was added after the Second World War to remember employees’ participation in the resistance.

Waiters take part in the Course des Cafés in Paris

Garçons! Paris’s waiters battle it out in revived Course des Cafés

Waiters carried in one hand a tray holding a coffee, croissant and glass of water during the 2km race

Ever complained about the slow service in a Paris cafe or restaurant? Your server may be able to get to your table quicker than they are letting on.

On Sunday, about 200 of the city’s serving staff donned traditional aprons and white shirts to take part in the revived Course des Cafés (cafe race).

Holding a round tray on which sat a typical French breakfast of a croissant, coffee and a glass of water, they set off at a brisk pace for 2km (1.24 miles) through the streets of the historic Marais district around City Hall.

The rules were simple: tray in one hand only; no running; and not a crumb or drop to be spilled. It was open to professionals, apprentices and part-time trainee servers and at the finishing line judges examined the trays to establish if everything had arrived intact.

The prize: the glory of being the fastest server in town, as well as a medal and a night’s stay in a swanky hotel. Samy Lamrous won the men’s race with a time of 13 minutes 30 seconds and Pauline Van Wymeersch was the top waitress with 14 minutes 12 seconds.

Waiters walk down a street with their trays

The race was first held in 1914 and known as “la course de garçons de caf e”, the then “ garçons ” being almost exclusively male. Waiters who took part were expected to carry a tray bearing a bottle and three glasses for 8km.

Similar events have taken place in Marseille, Trouville, Limoges and other towns and cities but the traditional race had not been held in Paris since 2011 because of a lack of sponsors. This year, City Hall stepped in and the city’s water authority Eau de Paris provided €100,000 for the trays, aprons, coffee and croissants.

Before Sunday’s event, Thibault Poullot, 26, the head waiter at Procope, known as the oldest café-restaurant in Paris, told France TV he would be taking part because “it’s a bit of fun and it’s a chance to represent our job”.

after newsletter promotion

A waiter raises his arms as he carries his tray

The event was also used to highlight a lack of staff in the capital’s hotel-restaurant sector. Stéphane Counelakis, a director at the LIPP brasserie, said the race was a way of promoting a profession “that for me is extraordinary”.

Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, a deputy city mayor in charge of trade, said: “The relaunch of this race … is aimed at promoting the excellence of French-style service in Parisian bistros and cafes, which is part of our capital’s intangible cultural heritage.”

He added: “The city is delighted to welcome back this race, which will remain a legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympics, as the start will be given on the square in front of the Hôtel de Ville, from where the Olympic marathon will start.”

Where to stay during the Paris Olympics 2024

F or the first time in a century, Paris is gearing up to host the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games . It’s been a marathon rather than a sprint, and preparations have been under way for years. Now, France approaches the final hurdles before the Olympic torch begins its journey from Marseille on 8 May.

The Olympic Games will run from 26 July to 11 August 2024, with the Paralympics starting on 28 August and running until 8 September. And while Olympic fever is spreading across the country, with events scheduled not just across metropolitan France but in overseas territories too (as far away as Teahupo’o, Tahiti, where the surfing competition will take place), the bulk of the action is happening in Paris itself.

Already the city that sees the most footfall from foreign tourists, during the Olympics, Paris looks set to be bursting from the seams of its handsome Haussmann buildings. Plan your trip like an Olympic athlete, with careful preparation and training. If you haven’t yet secured tickets to one of the events, read The Independent ’s handy guide here .

Already the proud owner of a golden ticket? To avoid spending the Olympics sharing a bed with three of your mates, like Charlie Bucket’s grandparents, book your accommodation early. Here are 12 fantastic places to stay, hand-picked for their proximity to the venues.

Just 23 minutes by Metro from the Stade de France – a walk in the park by Parisian standards – is the four-star MOB House. Urban chic, in an old warehouse with a generous terrasse and a swimming pool, it serves up vibes with regular DJ sets and an organic on-site bar-restaurant. The 100 rooms, minimalist with beige furnishings and light wood, are like visiting a friend with excellent taste – a far cry from the colour and chaos of Paris’s largest flea market, Saint Ouen, which is on your doorstep.

Hotel Cabane

An oasis in central Paris, Hotel Cabane is at odds with the highrise buildings of Montparnasse. With a generous garden and rooms with wooden panelling on the walls, it feels more like an Alpine chalet than the heart of the capital. The slap-up breakfast includes almost entirely local produce, and there’s a bar for unwinding after shouting yourself hoarse watching the sport. It’s half an hour on foot to the Paris Expo (which will be showing handball, volleyball, table tennis and weightlifting), or just one minute from Pernety Metro station on line 13.

Plaza Tour Eiffel

Recently renovated and newly reopened, the Plaza Tour Eiffel is just the other side of the Jardins du Trocadero, across the river from the Eiffel Tower. With soft gold and blue furnishings, the 41 rooms feel regal – even more so if you nab one with a view of the tower itself. Watching the world’s biggest sporting competition while looking over France’s most famous monument might sound like too many cliches, but it’s possible. The Champ de Mars Arena and the Eiffel Tower Stadium are hosting beach volleyball, judo and wrestling.

Hotel des Grands Voyageurs

The Olympic torch isn’t the only new thing coming to Paris. Hotel des Grands Voyageurs opened its doors last year – a timely opening as it’s less than half an hour on foot from the Esplanade des Invalides, where the archery events will be held. Designed in a vintage style, it looks like the sort of place where Hemingway and his pals would have hobnobbed over one of the cocktails on the extremely extensive bar menu.

A futuristic design in a glass tower in Paris’s 13th arrondissement, TOO Hotel is all about the views. From the restaurant (100 metres high) you’ve Paris at your feet – panoramas over the Eiffel Tower, Sacre-Coeur and Notre-Dame. It’s worth coming back down to earth though, particularly if you’ve got tickets for one of the events at Bercy Arena, which will be hosting the basketball, trampolining and artistic gymnastics. It takes under half an hour to reach on foot.

Generator Hostel

Blown your budget on tickets? That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the Olympics in style. Generator Paris, just minutes from Canal St Martin in edgy east Paris, is a hostel with a rooftop bar to die for and a club in the basement. Choose from dorm rooms that sleep between four and eight people (female only available) and private rooms. It’s just 15 minutes on foot from Gare du Nord, or 30 minutes from the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, where badminton and rhythmic gymnastics will be taking place.

OKKO Hotel, La Defense

Character hotels are few and far between in Paris’s most modern quartier , La Defense, but the OKKO brand does a great job of combining charm with luxury. The 184 rooms, spread over nine floors, are light and airy – and for budding Olympians who don’t want to miss out on training, there’s a small gym and a sauna. Getting to La Defense Arena, where the water polo and swimming are due to take place, is no sweat. It’s just across the road.

Hotel Jeu de Paume

It seems fitting that equestrian disciplines will be held at Versailles, and anyone watching will likely feel as though they’ve fallen into a period drama. Modern pentathlon is also taking place here, and by staying in Versailles you’ll avoid much of the crush of central Paris (at least in the evenings). Hotel Jeu de Paume has just 16 rooms, including family rooms, and walking to the Chateau de Versailles is no pentathlon – it takes under 10 minutes.

Hotel Dame des Arts

Perfumed by its own signature scent, Hotel Dame des Arts appeals to all the senses. The rooftop and many of the private balconies enjoy panoramic views over the Eiffel Tower, Saint-Sulpice and Notre Dame. Better still, there’s a bar on the roof – cheering on athletes all day is thirsty work. Just steps from Saint-Michel Notre-Dame Metro, it’s easy to get anywhere in the city, but Olympic venues Hotel de Ville, Place de la Concorde and l’Esplanade des Invalides are all under 20 minutes’ walk away.

La Villa Escudier

Finding accommodation close to Roland Garros that isn’t a) eye-wateringly expensive or b) completely lacking in soul has always been a challenge. La Villa Escudier, with its garden filled with rose trellises, blue shutters and opulent soft furnishings, is a welcome exception. There are just 18 rooms, all beautifully decorated. It’s not just Roland Garros that’s a tennis-ball throw away: Parc des Princes, the football arena, is just a 10-minute walk.

L’Escale Royale

Does the idea of winning an Olympic gold in wrestling through the Parisian crowds fill you with horror? Stay outside the city and dip in only when the starting gun sounds. L’Escale Royale is just 45 minutes by train from the city centre, in Yvelines, Seine et Marne, but it could be a thousand miles away. A beautifully redecorated peniche , with hanging egg chairs on the deck and a freestanding bathtub that looks out over the Seine through glass doors, it’s so peaceful that you’ll be asking: “What Games?”
