Tour Information

Frequently asked questions:

  • Adventure Rentals is approachable for all skill levels of drivers and riders. Some trails and terrains may be more challenging, but we help make you comfortable with being educated on how the machine works and letting you know what to expect. Giving you helpful hints along the way and letting you know what trails maybe a little more on the challenging side.
  • Each year we run the newest model of machines. In our 2020 season we will be carrying – 2 seat models: RZR 1000 XP and the RZR XP Pro, 4-seat models: RZR 1000 XP, RZR XP Pro and The General, 6- seat models: Ranger 1000 XP. We will also be carrying slingshots- those models include the Slingshot GT and the Slingshot SL.
  • When you are riding in the Black Hills National Forest, you should always keep in mind that the weather can change. It can be sunny and beautiful in the morning and get a rain shower in the afternoon. While storms don’t stick around very long (most of the time)- it is always better to be prepared. Please make sure you check the forecast for your riding day to be prepared.
  • Drivers license- you’ll need your drivers license for our rentals
  • Helmet- we always recommend a helmet for all drivers and riders! 18 years and younger are required by South Dakota State Law to have a helmet on their head at all times while in the machine. Helmets are provided with the rental fee- but we do always recommend bringing your own if you have one for your own comfort!
  • Sunglasses or Goggles: We do keep a limited supply of goggles on hand to use during your rental- our machines do have full windshields- but it is always smart to have eye protection. So bring a pair of goggles or sunglasses. We do have sunglasses for purchase in-store as well.
  • If the forecast calls for rain – please bring waterproof and breathable rain gear with you!
  • Clothing – be prepared to get dusty and dirty out there! So we always advise you to bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and it is always smart to dress in layers (on those colder days). You are more than welcome to bring a change of clothes to change into using our facilities after your adventure.
  • Sunscreen is always a good idea to have with you.
  • Closed-toe shoes- shoes should have closed toes- sandals are not recommended.
  • Water and Food – our machines have room for coolers – so we always recommend having plenty of water with you and also bringing food with. There are beautiful places to stop for a picnic or you are able to stop in Custer or Hill City for lunch.
  • First Aid Kit – A first aid kit is essential! We want all of our customers to be safe – all of our retrieval vehicles have first aid kits in them – its always best to be prepared with your own first aid kit as well.
  • Nope! All you need is a valid driver’s license. The Slingshot is classified as an Auto-Cycle, so in the State of South Dakota you do not need a motorcycle license.
  • Yes, all Slingshots are 5-speed clutch manuals from the factory. As for why no automatic transmissions offered from the factory, that is a good question for Polaris!
  • Each machine is sent out with a full tank of fuel and we request you return it the same way, the associate will let you know how much fuel you have to a tank of gas and what type of fuel and where to fill it up at. Filling up fuel when returning the machine ensures that the next rider can enjoy the same experience as you. We want you to spend your time riding and enjoying the sights and not worrying about where the nearest gas station is.
  • We accept cash (but will need a credit card on file). VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We do not accept checks.
  • BUY GIFT CARD NOW
  • All rentals include safety equipment with the rental fee – we do always recommend bringing your own helmet if you have one – for your own comfort! Rentals also include a comprehensive orientation at check-out.
  • All side by side machines come equipped with a tablet with the Avenza Map APP pre-downloaded on it. This App is great for off-roading- it shows you where you are at, at all times. We drop pins on the maps to give you helpful little hints on what you might want to explore on your adventure. The machines also come with an “onstar” feature but for the off-road, safety is our number one priority for our customers and if something were to happen and you don’t have a cell phone signal, with this feature you are able to contact emergency personnel immediately and they are given your exact location- all fees with this feature are charged to the customer.
  • GAS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RENTAL PRICE – your machine will have a full tank of gas prior to you leaving – please make sure you refuel your machine before you return it. If the machine is not refilled there will be a charge of $35.00 to your card on file. The renter is liable for any damages to the machine – we do offer additional insurance to cover you during your rental.
  • We always recommend arriving at least 20-mins early for your rental. This allows you time to get your waiver filled out and for us to go over the map and/or route with you. Please note EVERYONE WHO WILL BE RIDING IN THE MACHINE WILL NEED TO BE PRESENT TO SIGN THE WAIVER!!! This is very important – so anyone who will be riding in the machine will need to be on the waiver! Children under the age of 18 do not have to sign for themselves – but a parent or guardian will need to sign for them. If you are a large group – we recommend coming in the day before to do paperwork – this helps speed up your release time.
  • We will get everyone sized for a helmet – this can take some time – so if you have your own DOT certified helmets – you are more than welcome to bring them for your own comfort.
  • We will go over the already downloaded map that is on the tablet in each machine with you. Give you helpful hints along the way!!! Our side by sides will be directed to the off-road trails and our Slingshots will be directed to on-road tour ideas.
  • We will also go over the machine – if you are not familiar with how to drive these machines – no worries we help you with this!! Adventure Rentals also supports Tread Lightly! principles – so we will go over these principles with you as well!
  • We are here to help and happy to answer any questions you have!!! If you think of anything before the day of your rental – please feel free to call us (605-673-4540) or email us ( [email protected] ) anytime!
  • We require a 7-day cancellation for a full refund of your rental. If something happens within the 7 days (whatever the case may be) we will issue you a Rain Check that never expires that you can use at any other time. If you paid for our services – you will receive our services – even if it is a year later! If for some reason the day you chose no longer works for you – we are happy to move you to another day within your vacation – if inventory allows – at no additional fee!
  • Yes we do deliver…. quotes of fees are upon request. Please call us for more information!
  • All of our ATVs are fully licensed
  • ATVs are street and highway legal
  • All we ask is that you are safe, on time, and have a blast!
