When to travel to Vietnam

Good time to Travel in Vietnam is from September to June. However, Vietnam has three different regions – the North, the Central and the South – each with different weather patterns and different rainy seasons. This means that there is neither a best time nor a worst time to visit Vietnam. Hot summer or Cold winter is not that a big deal. Nice beaches such as Halong bay, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Mui Ne - Phan Thiet or Phu Quoc Island are always available; Sapa and Dalat highlands offer great places for cool temperature. We had an exceptional trip to Vietnam organized by Zicasso’s travel agent. He was a pleasure to work with. He was super-reactive in updating the itinerary each time we asked for a small change. I have never seen such attention to detail to make sure our family was 100% happy. When our daughter fell and had to go to a hospital in the Ha Long Bay area, the itinerary was rearranged. The guide organized the hospital visit and waited in the van with the driver to make things as smooth as possible. When we asked to change our lunches from restaurants with a lot of tourists to more street food, it was done immediately, allowing us to have exceptionally flavorful and authentic dishes. Our travel agent even organized a birthday cake for me, which was a total surprise. Our three guides (in north, central, and south Vietnam) were very knowledgeable and always on time with a smile to make sure we were all happy. The vans were large, very comfortable, and the drivers professional.

Although frequent travelers, this was our first trip to Asia. We greatly wanted to visit Thailand, but were uncertain how to proceed in planning our trip. Through Zicasso, we came into contact with our travel agent. We had great conversations with him about our interests, what we were hoping to experience in Thailand, and our travel style. He put together an initial travel itinerary, which we subsequently modified in follow-up conversations. Our agent was great to work with and we felt very involved in the process of setting up our trip. We have now returned from the trip and it was wonderful, or as my wife keeps telling people, magical. The attention to detail was impressive. The accommodations were first-rate. Travel occurred as planned, with air and land travel within Thailand going without a hitch. My wife has food allergies and was very concerned about how she would manage in Thailand. Our agent made sure our hotels and excursion providers were well informed of her dietary restrictions ahead of time and she was able to relax and enjoy herself without worry. As an example, when we went to the breakfast buffet at our hotel in Bangkok, a staff member approached us and went over their buffet, telling my wife which dishes to avoid. The best part of our trip was our guide. He was a wonderful person who took great joy in sharing his vast knowledge of Thailand with us. The excursions we took were enriched by his presence. Our agent was readily available to answer any questions we had as our travels progressed. We felt that his company’s resources were available to us throughout our travels and that he had our backs. I would like to emphasize that we were extremely pleased with the company and are highly recommending them as we recount our trip with friends and family. I would not hesitate to work with them again in planning future travels.

After returning home from a month-long trip to Asia, I am still wowed by the service provided by the travel agency and our guides in Vietnam. Since this was our first visit to the country, I reached out to the agency for itinerary recommendations, and thankfully, I was connected with Albee. She was incredibly responsive before and during our trip, and she paired us with such knowledgeable and hospitable guides. Our first guide during the trip hosted us in Hanoi and SaPa. We opted to stay a bit more off the beaten path at an ecolodge which we can highly recommend, which is about 30 minutes away from the SaPa village center. We let our guide know we were interested in learning more about the local culture and exploring the countryside, and wow, he delivered!  We went on the most memorable hike through the rice terraces and stopped to chat with several villagers along the way. He knew everyone. On top of that, he taught us about local flora and customs while on the hike and then the bike ride. We are already looking forward to returning to the North and further exploring the Vietnam/China border, but only if we can do it with him! The mountains were truly the highlight of our trip, and it wouldn't have been possible without him as our guide. If you are lucky enough to add SaPa to your itinerary, do yourself a favor and request him. Our guide in Saigon, which was the last leg of our Vietnam trip, was so accommodating to our changing needs. After a couple of weeks of travel, we arrived in Saigon wanting a more relaxing pace. She seamlessly made alternate arrangements for us that were a perfect end to the trip. The most hospitable moment from our entire trip to Asia came when we expressed an interest in visiting a local family. She immediately suggested that she and her family host us for lunch at their home in the Mekong Delta the next afternoon. This was such an unexpected yet memorable end to our time in Vietnam. Our guide’s and her family's hospitality were unmatched, and we were so fortunate to have her as our guide.

We really enjoyed working with Zicasso’s tour company to plan the trip. Our agent took into account our research and made suggestions/recommendations that enhanced the itinerary. We spent 11 days visiting Vietnam (HCMC, Hi An, Hanoi, Pù Luông, Ninh Bình, and Lan Ha Bay). It was an ambitious agenda that was executed without a hitch. The internal flights were arranged so we did not feel rushed (our guides walked us into the airport, helped us check in our bags, and stayed until we made it to security). Our driver during the latter half of the trip was extremely professional and kept an immaculate car, making sure we had water and whatever we needed during the multi-hour drives. Some of our guides could have been more knowledgeable, but my husband is a history buff and we tend to like a lot of in-depth information. The exception was our guide in Hanoi (and for the rest of the trip). He was fantastic and we were delighted that we had such a high-quality guide during the parts of our trip we had to rely on a guide the most. We were a bit taken aback that we had two guides for certain activities, but at the end of the day, we did not feel it was extraneous. The hotel selection was up to our standards. It was a mix of standard rooms in five-star luxury hotels and spectacular rooms in Pù Luông and on our Ha Long Bay cruise.

I would give the trip and company 4.5 stars, but that is not an option. Overall, the trip was interesting, and we felt the program allowed us to get a good overview of both Vietnam and Cambodia. Ms. Ha at the travel agency was excellent to work with. She was very prompt in responding to our queries, helped us plan a great itinerary, and attended to glitches right away. The arrangements, especially in Vietnam, were very good, our guides were always punctual, knowledgeable about their cities, and keen to share that knowledge with enthusiasm. We appreciated the fact that in Hanoi, our guide went out of his way to help us with money exchange and pharmacy purchases and also allowed us to fit in an unscheduled visit to the Hanoi Hilton (at our expense, of course). It was also very nice to have dinner with Ha on our final day in Vietnam. The cruise on Halong Bay was a bit disappointing. For people who do not want to kayak or swim, there were very few activities, and the ship spent a lot of time anchored rather than cruising. The rooms on board, however, were very good. All hotel choices were very good, and we would like to give a shout out to the hotel in Hoi An, which was a charming place to stay at. We enjoyed Cambodia, but the 95+ degree heat detracted somewhat from our enjoyment and exploration of the temples in Siem Reap. Due to a mix-up with the operator in Cambodia, and despite our mentioning this to the guide, we went to all the temples in a single day, which was somewhat exhausting. Our guide was knowledgeable but seemed to go strictly by the book. Unfortunately parts of Angkor Wat were closed to tourists the first day because of the king's visit. The next day's excursion to Tonle Sap Lake and Banteay Srei temple was slower-paced and more enjoyable, and on our free third day, we rented a tuktuk and enjoyed a trip through the countryside to the Landmines Museum. Our guide in Phnom Penh was great and made recent history come alive.

Our family of four traveled to Japan, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and the Hakone area. The Zicasso travel agency put together great properties. We loved the locations of each and their amenities. We had excellent seats on the bullet train. Our driver and tour guide in Kyoto were outstanding! We felt there was definitely a communication misstep with our plans for Tokyo however. Our driver/guide was very lovely, but not very definitive on what we were doing each day. We felt we had communicated with the driver and the travel company as to what we wanted to do, but for example, when we went to do our food tour of Tokyo, it was paired with a visit to the fish market. We asked if the food tour was after the market, to which our guide said yes. However, about two hours into the fish market we realized that was his idea of the food tour. There was no specific plan of what we were to try and no explanation of the items. Instead, we walked around and bought a few things we wanted to try. We shared everything as we were saving room for the food tour that really never happened. It was frustrating as we felt our guide was more of a driver and less of a guide. Communication was definitely a factor, which is why we hired the travel agency.

It was hot when we were there, but they always provide coconut juice to cooling us down wherever we arrived. Some locals may have whole families working for coconuts.

We visited the houses of the locals and took a boat. The river was quiet and comfortable.

The food at the B&B was delicious and the host was very friendly.

My three friends and I recently went on a long tour and we were highly satisfied with how the tour was handled. There were no glitches or problems throughout the entire trip. Upon arriving at each destination, our guide and driver were already waiting for us outside the arrival area. The hotel choices were excellent and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable about the places we visited. Additionally, most of our lunches were included, allowing us to savor the cuisine of each country.
