How To Do Ehteraz Pre-Travel Registration For Qatar

Doha Guides Team regularly reviews this article to ensure the content is up-to-date and accurate. The last editorial review and update were on 05 February 2024.

In July 2021, Qatar launched an online pre-travel registration service for travellers arriving in Qatar. The service, known as Ehteraz Pre-Travel Registration , was mandatory for visitors until 1 November 2022.

The Ehteraz pre-registration system for those coming to Qatar aimed to facilitate the arrival process and verify the visitor’s immunity status. Using this online platform, passengers could upload all required documents, such as vaccination certificates and other relevant data, to avoid hassle and long queues at the airport.

This article explains the step-by-step process of how to do the Ehteraz pre-registration and answers frequently asked questions.

Is Pre-Travel Registration Compulsory for All Travellers?

Advantages of ehteraz pre-travel registration, documents required for ehteraz pre-travel registration, when to do the ehteraz pre-travel registration, how to do ehteraz pre-travel registration, time required for ehteraz pre-travel approval, ehteraz pre-travel registration fees, ehteraz helpline, additional information, faq on ehteraz pre-travel registration, 2024 status.

NOTE: Ehteraz pre-travel registration should not be confused with the Ehteraz mobile app , which is a different service to be used once you are inside Qatar.

From 1 November 2022, registering on the Ehteraz website is not required for travellers (visitors and residents). Also, Ehteraz pre-registration is not needed for transit through Doha Airport .

The Ehteraz pre-travel registration had several advantages:

  • It ensured that you meet the required conditions and are authorized to enter Qatar.
  • It made your check-in and departure process smooth at the point of departure.
  • It ensured quick completion of entry procedures at Doha airport/point of entry.
  • Travellers with pre-approval were allowed to use the designated fast-track route and proceed directly to the immigration checkpoint

To apply for Ehteraz travel registration, the following documents were required:

  • Passport copy (for visitors)
  • A vaccination certificate issued by the competent authorities in the country departing from (for those who are fully vaccinated and 14 days have passed after the second dose)
  • A COVID-19 recovery certificate issued by the approved health authorities in the country departing from (for those who were recovered within a period not exceeding twelve months)
  • Two-way airline ticket if you are a visitor applying for a visa on arrival service
  • Hotel booking (for the entire duration) through the Discover Qatar website for Indian, Pakistani, and Iranian nationals applying for visas on arrival (requirement from 14 April 2022)

NOTE: All visitors aged six (6) and above should have a negative RT-PCR test result obtained no more than 48 hours before departure or a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) certificate obtained no more than 24 hours before departure.

However, as per the new rules, this need not be uploaded during Ehteraz pre-registration. Instead, the original test result should be presented during check-in at the airport or during entry at other borders. Minors aged 0-5 years are exempted from COVID testing.

Travellers must apply through the Ehteraz platform at least three (3) days before arrival to Qatar and submit the required documents.

Please note that the system will not accept your application if your travel date is after seven (7) days . However, you can start filling up the application form earlier and save it for future submission.

It is highly recommended to submit the application 6 or 7 days before travel as there can be delays in approval.

Below are the steps for travellers to do the pre-travel registration on the Ehteraz website:

Review the information and make sure it is accurate. Enter the captcha code and click “Save”.

Step 12: On the next page, agree to the terms and conditions and submit the application

After applying, the traveller may follow up and see the status of the application, whether it is approved, or whether any other procedures are required to get the approval. This can be checked on the website’s home page under the “My applications” option.

Once the pre-registration is completed, travellers will be provided with information on the procedures they will have to follow and the checkpoints they will have to stop at upon arrival in Qatar.

Since you are now required to submit the application at least three days before travel, you are supposed to receive a decision within 1-3 days. The decision is taken for each person within the application individually (in the case of the application for more than one person).

The Ehteraz pre-travel approval will be sent to the email address registered in the user account. You can take a printout to use during travel.

This approval will be automatic and can be downloaded immediately for residents and citizens vaccinated in Qatar.

This is a free service and does not require any fees.

Warning: If a traveller submits fake information or forged documents during pre-registration, the passenger’s condition will be re-evaluated upon entry to the country, and the prior decision is not considered.

You can contact the Government Contact Center at 109 (Inside the State of Qatar) or +974 4406 9999 (Outside the State of Qatar). You may also email at [email protected] .

For health or quarantine-related queries, please call the MOPH helpline on 16000 (Inside the State of Qatar) or +974 4406 9963 (Outside the State of Qatar).

  • Travellers must present their RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen Test results and the application approval to the border employee.
  • The data of citizens and residents who have completed the website pre-registration will be stored to facilitate the process of submitting new applications.
  • For Qatar residents, an exceptional entry permit will not be required if they have valid QID and have left Qatar within the last six months. If the resident has been out of Qatar for six months, they must apply for a Return Permit .

Individuals must ensure that they are updated with any changes in the Entry and Return policy of the State of Qatar through official sources before planning their trip. Please check the MOPH website for the latest Travel Policy for the State of Qatar.

Hi, I am planning to travel on 27th Oct 2022 along with my family for 2-3 days through Saudi border. Please guide me my profession is Computer Technician and in the approved profession list it is not available but Computer programmer is available but somebody told me they will give visa because these professions are almost same, so please confirm can I get the visa on arrival or not and my family is on visit visa and I already booked the hotel through booking.com so booking.com is acceptable or not or should be booked through discover Qatar. And I also heard that now a days they are not allowing because of FIFA. If anyone have recent experience or anyone knows about the Qatar process. Kindly share with me. Thanks in Advance

Hi Syed, It is better to call and confirm with the official helpline at +974-4406 9999.

HI, I am arriving into Hamad International Airport on 27 Oct and transferring to a Flydubai flight out of Doha International Airport 5 hours later. The same process again on return 31 Oct. Can you advise if all visa, PCR rules etc are in place for this transit? Is there transit transportation between the two airports?

Hi JH, Have you booked both flights using the same airline? If yes, the airline will arrange for transit. Or else you will need to get a visa on arrival (if eligible) and take a taxi or metro service to the other airport. PCR is not mandatory if you are only doing transit (unless your destination needs that). If you are using a visa on arrival, PCR within 48 hours or antigen test within 24 hours of travel is required.

Hi, I’ve booked the flight tickets to Qatar for a stay for 29th Sept to 3rd Oct 2022. I got to know that it is required to book a hotel through Discover Qatar for this duration. But the website is not accepting hotel bookings for now. So, I booked a five star hotel for this duration and applied in the Ehteraz Pre Travel Approval portal. My application number is 7248705. Kindly requesting you to approve the application soon. Attached the Passport, flight tickets, vaccine certificate and hotel bookings and sent an email to [email protected] . Can provide you further information if required.

Hi Prasanth, We are not the official authority dealing with Ehteraz approvals. It is good that you have emailed them. If needed you can also call Ehteraz helpline on +974-4406 9999.

My application number : 7185321 for Ehteraz submitted on 19th September 2022 It’s still not approved and doesn’t have any update except under process. Do let me know if you need any additional documents. I missed my flight already. Application was done on 19/09/2022 almost 6 days back. Request you to please treat it as urgent and approve so that I can travel. I’m stuck at airport as boarding is denied as Ehteraz application not approved. Really appreciate your kind support in this regard. If you can approve it now I can travel as I’m stuck at airport. Thank you for your help and understanding. Expecting approval. Thank you again.

Hi Ganesh, Sorry to hear that. We are not the official authority dealing with Ehteraz approvals. Please call Ehteraz helpline on +974-4406 9999.

Hello. I have filled EHTERAZ pre-registration and saved it as draft. I know it has to be sent 3 days before, but the COVID Test (PCR) is to be done 48 hrs before…. That means, once I upload the test (48hrs) I have to send the registration? Or I have to send it 3 days before, without de test, and upload it later… Thank you

Hi Juan, You don’t have to upload the covid test result with Ehteraz application. This rule was changed a few months back. You only need to show the result during check-in.

Hi I am holding Indian passport and residence of Saudi Arabia. I have registered on Ehteraz app for on arrival visa on 17th September and my travel date is 22nd September but still I didn’t not get any reply. So can I granted visa on arrival at the border. My parents are also with me holding saudi multiple one year visa and holding Indian passport.

Hi Falguni, If you meet the requirements for GCC Residents Visa On Arrival (profession should be on the list), Ehteraz approval is not needed for GCC residents. Please check the details here: https://www.dohaguides.com/qatar-visa-on-arrival-for-gcc-residents/ Note that your parents will only be allowed if they are under your sponsorship. Normal visa on arrival for Indians requires Discover Qatar hotel booking, which is closed now. For more details, please call the government helpline at +974-4406 9999.

Hello, Please note that i am a GCC resident holding Indian Nationality and will be travelling to Qatar by Land border will i be granted visa on arrival at the border and do i need to register in Ehteraz Pre-Travel website i would also like to know that i have taken 2 dose of vaccination so is it necessary to take booster dose to enter Qatar.

Hi Javed, Ehteraz registration is optional for GCC residents. Vaccination is not mandatory. However, a covid test is required (RT-PCR should be done within 48 hours OR Antigen Test should be done within 24 hours). For GCC visa on arrival, make sure to check if your profession is in this list: https://www.dohaguides.com/qatar-visa-on-arrival-for-gcc-residents/

Hello…I’m planing to visit Qatar this September. Is it still mandatory to provide Serology Test on Ehteraz for people who vaccinated with Sinovac? Or it is fine with just Vaccine Certificate? Thanks

Hi Ferial, Please check with [email protected]

Thanks for the reply. I just notice that I input wrong arrival time, but the arrival date is still the same. I have got the application approved. Is it ok or should I apply once more? Thanks again

How to Complete Ehteraz Registration for Qatar Travel in 5 Minutes

EHTERAZ REGISTRATION FOR QATAR TRAVEL: EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW.

By Deb Pati last updated on November 21, 2022

I did the Ehteraz registration while flying to Qatar in March 2022, along with my wife.

In this article, I would walk you through the whole process, starting from why you would need it to the step-by-step application process and the required documents.

Update: Nov 2022

Eheteraz Pre-approval is not needed since 1st Nov 2022 to enter Qatar. See the official update on the latest Qatar entry rules .

We were traveling from Colombia and did it a few days before boarding the flight. The approval definitely helped us with a smooth entry to Qatar and get to know this beautiful country.

travel registration qatar

I will also keep on updating the article based on new info that I come across.

What is Ehteraz?

So, like many other countries around the world, Qatar kicked off Ehteraz pre-travel registration system to facilitate the arrival process in Qatar and verify the vaccination status.

This has been in place since July 2021.

Using an online platform, travelers can upload the required documents and submit the application.

Why Do Enteraz Registration?

Personally speaking, we were never asked for the Ehteraz pre-approval at the time of boarding the flight. And note that, I flew with Qatar Airways.

That being said, you can certainly get asked for it when boarding your flight.

Along with that, you should do it to

  • Make sure of a smoother entry to Qatar at the immigration.
  • Use the designated fast-track routes without stopping at the Ministry of Public health’s counters
  • Use the faster routes in customs to leave the airport

Table of Contents

Who Needs Pre-Travel Registration for Qatar?

Registering on the Ehteraz website is mandatory only for travellers without a valid Qatari ID or passport, although the MOPH recommends Qatari citizens and residents to do it as well.

GCC and European Union nationals and residents who meet the criteria for immunity can use the authorized health info app from their countries when entering Qatar. They wouldn’t need to do the pre-approval registration on Ehteraz.

When to Do Ehteraz Registration?

You should submit the Ehteraz registration at least 3 days before you travel, as the approval process can sometimes take time, depending on where you are from and the number of passengers.

The Ehteraz website, however, does not accept applications if your date of arrival in Qatar is more than 7 days from the date of application submission.

So, ideally, you should submit the application for Ehteraz 6 days or so before the date of your travel.

Required Documents for Ehteraz Application

Here are the mandatory documents for Ehteraz that you need to upload.

1. Passport Copy

If you are a visitor, you need to upload a copy of your passport bio page.

If you are a Qatari/resident, you can simply provide the QID and retrieve it.

2. Vaccination Certificate for Ehteraz

A vaccination certificate issued by the competent authorities in the country departing from or any other country (for those who received the vaccine doses completely).

Vaccination is not mandatory for those under 12. So in case, you have a child who is younger than 12, you can skip.

Optionally, you would also need to upload

3.Valid negative PCR test

That being said, depending on your nationality, you might need to provide the PCR test from laboratories approved by the health authorities taken maximum of 72 hours before time of arrival.

In reality, the RT-PCR test is not mandatory for Ehterzal pre-approval. But, depending on the nationality, you still might need to provide it at the time of boarding the flights and when arriving in Qatar.

4. Hotel Booking

If you are from certain countries such as India, Pakistan, Iran etc., you would need to provide the proof of hotel booking through the Discover Qatar website.

If you are from another country, you could simply book a hotel and cancel it after you reach Qatar.

Since, 4th September 2022, there is no hotel quarantine in Qatar.

5. Certificate of recovery

A certificate of recovery from the Covid-19 issued by the approved health authorities in the country departing from for those who were affected by it and recovered within a period not exceeding twelve months.

6. Entry Exit Stamps

If you are not in your country of origin, in certain cases, you would need to provide the entry exit stamps to prove that you are not in your home country.

7. Bank Statements

Depending on your nationality, you can be asked to upload the bank statements to prove that you can sustain yourself in Qatar.

8. Visa Number

I have been getting a lot of queries on the visa number. You can skip the visa number if you are gonna apply Qatar visa on arrival like me.

However, if you already have received a visa from Qatar, you can provide it there. Sometimes, you have a visa which has 6 digits and the page throws errors like it should be of 12 digits.

In that case, you can leave it blank.

9. Travel Insurance

Here is the thing. You don’t need travel insurance for Ehterazl Pre-registration. However, I highly recommend getting SafetyWing Insurance if you are going to visit Qatar.

I have used it myself and I can vouch for it.

How to do Ehteraz Registration in 6 Steps

Step 1: registration.

Go to the Ehteraz official website: https://ehteraz.gov.qa

Apply for Ehteraz pre approval to enter Qatar

Scroll down to the section about Pre-entry registration. Click on the button that says Register new request. It will redirect you to another screen.

The process is going to be the same.

You will be redirected to another page.

travel registration qatar

Click on the New user registration.

On the next screen, choose your nationality and provide your email and password.

Click on the Signup button.

travel registration qatar

When you do that, it will send you an email with an activation link.

Sometimes, this email can take 10-20 minutes to get to your inbox. So you can go for some coffee or whatever you like to do when you need to kill time, and then come back and continue.

Step 2 : Account Activation

Go to the email and click on the activation link.

travel registration qatar

This will activate your email and ask you to log in.

Step 3 : Create a New Application

After logging in, choose New Application from the Applications menu.

You need to provide the following.

  • Country of departure
  • The date of arrival
  • Number of passengers
  • And whether you are flying or coming through a land border or sea.

If you are traveling as a family or a group, you can create one application for all travellers. The maximum number of people that can be added to one application is 15.

The advantage of doing this is that it would be easy to keep track of and take a little less time.

In my case, I was traveling from Colombia by air with my wife. I am from India and my wife is from Colombia.

Eheteraz registration application

On the next screen, I chose visitor since I was planning to visit Qatar. If you are a Qatari resident, you would need to fill in QID.

I chose my nationality and provided my name, date of birth and passport number. I provided my phone number from Colombia.

travel registration qatar

After this, I filled out the details of vaccination and chose Colombia as one of the countries that I have visited recently.

You can click on the Add Dose button to add more than one dose, once you select Yes for Vaccinated.

travel registration qatar

After this, scroll down to the section for Attachments. Click on the Add button.

You can click on the Browse button to choose a document and select the type of document from the dropdown. Provide the description of the document afterward.

travel registration qatar

In this way, you can upload a copy of your passport and any other relevant documents.

Once done, click on the Continue button.

In my case, since I was applying for both me and my wife at once, I also filled in her details and uploaded the vaccination certificate as well as a copy of the passport.

After this, I clicked on the Continue button.

The documents must be in jpg, png or pdf format for uploading. The size of the documents shouldn’t exceed 2 MBs.

Step 4 : Undertaking and Submission

You need to tick the checkbox for undertaking after this and click on submit for approval.

Step 5: Track Application & Submit Other Documents (If Asked)

Once the application is submitted, you can see the application by going to the Applications menu and clicking on Search.

You will also receive an email that your application is under process.

Email from Ehteraz

After this, they will start reviewing your documents and approve the application or send it back to you to submit any other documents.

In my case, I didn’t hear anything from them for a couple of days. Then they kept on sending the application back to me for one or the other document, and I would provide the same and send it back to them.

Email 1: Vaccine certificate couldn’t be verified

So they couldn’t verify my vaccine certificate, while they could verify it for my wife. And both of us had the vaccine certificate from India only, for the same vaccine.

travel registration qatar

So I simply re-uploaded the vaccine certificate and provided the description that it was authentic and I have taken the vaccines.

Email 2 : Entry Exit Stamp

Then they sent me an email asking me to upload the entry-exit stamps from India and Colombia. They misspelled Colombia, but I digress.

I believe this was the case to verify that I wouldn’t need to quarantine or book Discover Qatar hotel, if I would have been out of India for more than 14 days.

travel registration qatar

Email 3 : Bank statements

Then I got another email asking me to upload the bank statements for the last 3 months. I believe this is again a requirement for people from countries like India, Pakistan etc., who need to get a visa on arrival for Qatar.

travel registration qatar

By this point, I was already a little annoyed with the whole process. I also had to travel within a day of getting this email.

So along with the bank statements, I also uploaded a copy of my hotel reservation and PCR test result and asked them to approve it asap in the document description.

Step 6 : Receive Ehteraz Pre Approval

I received the Ehteraz pre approval a couple of hours before boarding my flight actually. I got an email notifying me of the same and a PDF containing the approval for both of us.

Ehteraz registration from India

If you are doing the Ehteraz registration from India, you would most probably have to submit the same documents that I did and you might need to do the quarantine depending on the rules.

In my case, since I was out of India for more than 14 days, I was exempted from quarantine. As I have mentioned earlier, quarantining is not a thing anymore.

Ehteraz Approval Time: How Long Does it Take?

Ehteraz approval can take anywhere between 2-5 days depending on the number of applicants and their nationalities.

The decision for each applicant is taken individually.

Ehteraz Application Fees

Ehteraz application is completely free of cost.

Entering Qatar with Ehteraz Pre Approval

Make sure to have the Ehteraz pre approval on your phone or tablet when you land in Qatar. They can ask for it in the immigration.

In our case, we were also asked for it at the time of leaving the airport through customs.

You can also carry a printout of the pre-approval.

Ehteraz Registration Problems

You can definitely run into some issues when doing the Ehteraz registration.

Why My Ehteraz is not Showing Vaccinated?

Ehteraz vaccine update can sometimes take time as the vaccine certificates from different countries are different. In my case, they returned my Ehteraz application with the comment that my certificate couldn’t be verified.

Then I simply resubmitted the same certificate, and it was validated.

travel registration qatar

Ehteraz App Download

Make sure to download the Ehteraz app as well. However, you don’t need to do it until you are inside Qatar. It would not work when you are outside Qatar.

You would be asked to show the status as green on the app in places like metro stations, hotels and restaurants and other places.

If for some reason, you are not able to register on the app, you can still show a copy of the vaccination certificates and/or the PCR test results for a few days.

I missed my flight on th 1st May and had to reschedule for the 11 May , but how can I submit my all paperwork in 48 hours after receiving my pcr test , what can I do to speed up the process ? And get approval ?

May 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm

Hi Dawood, You don’t need to upload the PCR test if you are fully vaccinated. Depending on your nationality, you can upload the hotel reservation and bank statements when applying.

May 13, 2022 at 8:51 am

Hi Sneh, You could do it earlier. Yes, it can get approved in 72 hours but better to apply a bit earlier.

May 12, 2022 at 10:32 am

Hi Deb Firstly, its a very informative article. Secondly, in my Family scenario, i have a valid family visit visa for family with kids. My Elder one is 13 yrs now, as a matter of fact in India only Corbevax is given for kids under 15 yrs. So my query is that if the Corbevax vaccine certificate is uploaded for Travel, will it be approved. As its the only vaccine for kids at present in India. Thank you.

May 13, 2022 at 7:37 am

Hi Hamed, I don’t think Corbevax is one of the approved vaccines in Qatar. You can apply for the Ehteraz in this case but there is a big chance that they would not approve. When you upload the vaccine certificate, mention in the description that it is the only vaccine for kids under 15 years in India. But you should be prepared to quarantine. Do have the PCR test before traveling and carry the vaccine certificate.

May 15, 2022 at 5:55 am

Thank you very much for the info. I Appreciate it.

June 5, 2022 at 12:18 pm

Hi again. Actually, i created ehteraz account, and in that there is no such area where i can put a remark of the corbevax vaccine, in the drop down list of vaccines too, covaxin is there but no corbevax. Do u think if my family travels to Dubai for few days & then from there to Doha, as Dubai is in Green List, as a visitor will it work out to enter Doha with family members especially the Son, who has corbevax vaccine. Please let me know if u can. Thanks.

June 7, 2022 at 7:17 am

Hi Hamed, No there is no specific field for remark. When you upload the document, you need to provide the description. In the description, you can write all this.

Even if you go from Dubai to Doha, you would need to fill in the Ehteraz. But if you are n Dubai for more than 14 days, your family would not need to quarantine.

June 11, 2022 at 7:32 am

Thanks Deb. I appreciate ur feedback. I shall first try to do the option 1 & see the outcome. Secondly, in any case of Dubai option, is 14 days really required or can it be 10 days or so, just to minimize the costs. If its surely 14 days then i don’t have a choice.

June 12, 2022 at 7:35 am

Hi Hamed, Yes, it needs to be 14 days outside India. It would be cheaper to quarantine in Qatar probably if push comes to shove. 🙂

June 21, 2022 at 4:01 pm

Hi again Deb, i am sorry to say that the ehteraz rejected my son’s corbevax vaccine today after uploading the necessary Doc’s & info. So, now i need to try the second option only. I hope this time it will be alright., Just a query, if in case of arriving from UAE, as its a green list country, the ehteraz upload needs to be for my wife only, do we need to upload my son’s corbevax certif again or not required, only my wife can upload the covishield certif which is approved here. will my son get entry in qatar as he will be accompanying my wife. kindly, give me ur inputs. Thanks.

June 22, 2022 at 5:06 pm

Hi Hamed, I wish I knew the answer to this, but I don’t unfortunately. I am positive that your son will be able to enter.

My flight is on 21 st Nov 22 from Bangalore to Doha , can i apply for Ehteraz registration latest by 15 th of November 22 – i am fully vaccinated and booster dose also done so do i need to go for PCR test 48 hours before boarding from Bangalore . I am extremely worried as i came to know Ehteraz approval does not come on time as a results several passenger missed their flight and had to undergo severe issues – do you think if all the papers are uploaded correctly – approval comes on time . Please advice as this is really a point of concern after booking flights , hotel and world cup match tickets . Regards Abhra

June 12, 2022 at 7:37 am

Hi Abhra, Yes, you should definitely receive the approval in a week if everything is in order. I got mine in 3 days really. And regarding the tests and all, there is still a lot of time. The requirements for PCR test can change by then.

Hi Nazish, The PCR test is not mandatory if you have both vaccines. But if you really need to, you would need to do it twice.

Hi Deb, Thanks very much for the detailed information. Could you help me with these questions please.

I will be transiting Doha twice in a gap of 3 weeks; once on way to Europe for 3 hr(waiting for next flight) and once on way back home to Australia. On the way back it will be 22 hr transit time and am keen to go out. Do I need to apply Ehteraz twice? I have taken two vaccinations and two boosters. Do I need to take PCR test?

June 22, 2022 at 4:59 pm

Hi Geetha, You don’t really need the PCR test. But the Ehteraz approval expires the day after you reach Qatar. So you would need it twice.

July 4, 2022 at 2:11 am

Thanks Deb. That helps. On their site https://covid19.moph.gov.qa/EN/travel-and-return-policy it says…..How should I interpret it? For Visitors COVID-19 Test Required Before Traveling to Qatar Optional: Pre-travel RT-PCR if traveler is a resident of a GCC country, or an EU national/resident. Mandatory: negative RT-PCR is required for other travellers

For Visitors COVID-19 Test Required On Arrival in Qatar If a resident of GCC country or an EU national/resident who does not have a pre-travel PCR, the traveler must proceed to any authorized private clinics for Rapid Antigen test within 24hrs of arrival; otherwise, not applicable.

July 7, 2022 at 5:04 pm

Hi Geetha, The interpretation would depend on your nationality and where you are flying from, but from my own experience, I would recommend doing a PCR test nevertheless. The airlines themselves can often come up with their own rules.

hi, my wife and kids (8 and 4 years old) will be coming to Qatar on a family visa by themselves soon. They are from Taiwan. I have uploaded all the necessary documents for them, but my wife’s digital vaccine certificate with QR code on it only shows 3/3 doses with the booster dose details only (moderna and administered date). The digital certificate does not show details for the first and second doses. For the sake of safety, I have also uploaded her paper certificate (all docs in PDF format) detailing all the 3 dosage specs and administration dates. Will this work for my wife’s application? by the way, i was never approved on my pre-registration process, which really freaked me out at the first place, but I still managed to enter the country end of last year. I just don’t want my wife to go through the same trauma like i did.

thank you sir

June 27, 2022 at 1:50 pm

Hi Bruce, I would surely recommend providing these details in the description box when uploading in case they send it back to you. The PDF should surely work. It worked for me.

July 20, 2022 at 5:08 am

Thanks so much for this article. I am a resident of Qatar and I want my son who is in USA but an Indian citizen to come here for a week. I have a visa for him. He filled in the Ehteraz application but they have come back twice asking him to upload the entry (USA) and exit (India) stamps. He uploaded this as well, but they came back again asking for the same. Did you upload the stamps separately i.e. one pdf of entry stamp and one for Exit stamp? It’s a bit confusing.

July 22, 2022 at 9:50 am

Hi Munira, No I uploaded the entry and exit together in one pdf. The trick is to write a detailed message in the description when he uploaded. In the description, clearly mention what you are uploading and the entry and exit dates. Would be great if they allowed people to leave a comment but they don’t. So the description is the only option.

Hello thanks for the information you shared they’re really helpful…. Please I saw somewhere on the etheraz where they are asking for Visa number, And I don’t have I only have a passport number. Is this something I should be worried about if I don’t have a Visa number but only a passport number because it’s my first time traveling?….. Please help with this question… Looking forward to hearing from you soon

August 19, 2022 at 6:32 am

Hi Joseph, You need the passport number only. You can leave the passport number blank. If you see the screenshot of my application, you can see this.

September 1, 2022 at 6:01 pm

Hi how are you? I am from Argentina and I will go to Qatar for world cup! In the middle of the world cup I want to go to visit Dubai 2 days. I have ticket flight with qatar airlines. But now I read that Etheraz app must be apply at least 3 days before the flight. So I have a problem, can I not go to dubai? When you leave Doha, the app ehteraz is finish and if you came back 2 to doha 2 days later you have to do the ehteraz again? Because I will go from doha to Dubai 5 of december and return to Doha 7 of december. So If i have to apply again for Etheraz and not get the aprove I will can not return to Qatar and loose the world cup match!!!

We are travelling from Canada and will be taking a cruise from Dubai to Qatar during World Cup. I will complete the pre-registration as we are fully vaccinated and boosted twice (4 doses). My question is how does the negative covid test get added after you have already pre-registered and submitted? We need a test 48 hours prior and pre-registration will already be submitted by then. Does immigration add it? Can you add it yourself online? And how long does it take to show green after it is added? We are arriving at 9am in Qatar and will be attending a game where we have to show the green pass later that afternoon.

September 27, 2022 at 7:24 am

Hi Laurie, It is not obligatory to upload the RTPCR test results, especially if you are fully vaccinated. You should not need to upload this. I did this since at that time Indians had to, and yes, I did it the night before my departure.

September 25, 2022 at 8:00 pm

Just curious as to how you uploaded the negative covid arrival test. Do they do it for you at immigration or can you do it after you have submitted everything else. Also, were you able to use the app with your own sim card while roaming or did you have to buy one for Qatar?

September 27, 2022 at 7:26 am

You can use your sim card while roaming. But if you are gonna be there for long, maybe it would be cheaper to get one in Qatar.

October 6, 2022 at 11:12 am

yes, if you don’t get approval in time, definitely get the RTPCR test done. Sometimes airlines might not let you onboard without Ehteraz preapproval, so you need to convince them. At the same time, keep on emailing Ehteraz support and ask them to approve.

And I also heard that now a days they are not allowing because of FIFA. If anyone have recent experience or anyone knows about the Qatar process. Kindly share with me. Thanks in Advance

I traveled to Qatar from Dubai on November 24. I sent my Etheraz pre-registration and it told me that I would receive an email 7 days before the flight. Now I try to get into the Etheraz page and it says “PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRE-REGISTRATION HAS BEEN SUSPENDED CURRENTLY” Is there a problem with the page?

Hi, looking to travel via Doha in October next year. Travelling London->Doha->Cape Town and return Cape Town->Doha->London. We won’t be leaving airport as only 3 hours between connections which means we will stay in the transit areas.

Question: Will we be required to download/install the Ehteraz App given we are only transiting?

November 18, 2022 at 9:18 am

Hi Gary, Transit passengers don’t need Ehteraz pre-registration.

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

Tourist visas:  When traveling on a U.S. tourist passport, travelers may obtain a free visa upon arrival, if they have six-months validity in their passport and a return or onward ticket. The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance and entitles the holder to spend up to 30 days in Qatar, or multiple entries during the 30-day validity. It may be extended for a further 30 days. See the Government of Qatar’s website for  visa information .

Former Residency Permit Holders:  Former resident permit holders seeking to return to Qatar should carry a “no objection letter” issued by their former sponsor.

For further information on residence permits, see the  Qatari government  or  U.S. Embassy website .

Exit Permits:

  • Exit permits are no longer required for U.S. citizens working in Qatar, with the exception of employees deemed “essential” by their employers, who must still be granted an exit permit.
  • If you owe money, you will be barred from exiting Qatar. Qatari banks place holds on accounts to ensure all debts are paid before you leave.
  • U.S. citizens with family residence visas do not need an exit permit. However, a family member who sponsors their dependents (usually the person employed in Qatar) can elect to receive instant notification if dependents attempt to depart the country.

Qatar does not recognize dual nationality.  If you hold Qatari citizenship, Qatari law requires that you enter and exit on your Qatari passport. Qatari authorities may confiscate your U.S. passport if you hold Qatari/U.S. dual nationality. Should this happen, contact the U.S. Embassy. The seizure does not constitute loss of U.S. citizenship.

Military Personnel  should consult the Department of Defense Foreign Clearance Guide before traveling, since different entry/exit requirements may apply. For further information, call the Host Nation Coordination Cell of the 379 th  Air Expeditionary Wing at 011-974-5551-0815.

Some restrictions  exist for foreign residents of Qatar who test positive for certain communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDs. Medical exams are required for individuals seeking residency in Qatar, but not for transit passengers or short-term visitors.  Qatari authorities will not bar HIV-positive temporary visitors from entry to Qatar based on their health status.  However, Qatar denies residency and employment to HIV or tuberculosis-positive applicants (among other communicable diseases).  Short-term visitors to Qatar with medications on their person are advised to carry a copy of their prescriptions. Please verify this information with the  Embassy of Qatar  before you travel.

Customs  regulations prohibit the import of alcohol over the duty-free cap, narcotics, pork products, weapons or weapons-related articles (hand cuffs, laser pointers, etc.), drones, professional photography equipment to include telescopic lenses, as well as pornographic or sexually-related materials.

See Qatar’s  website  for specific information regarding customs requirements.

  • Provide an emergency loan for repatriation to the United States and/or limited medical support in cases of destitution
  • Help you arrange flights home
  • Replace a stolen or lost passport
  • Assist in the birth or death of a U.S. Citizen

See our webpage on help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

Information on local resources and assistance can be found on the Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre website and through their hotline: 6693-3999, 6693-3108, or 6693-3919.

Tourism : The tourism industry is unevenly regulated, and safety inspections for equipment and facilities do not commonly occur. Hazardous areas/activities are not always identified with appropriate signage, and staff may not be trained or certified either by the host government or by recognized authorities in the field. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is typically available only in/near major cities. First responders are generally unable to access areas outside of major cities and to provide urgent medical treatment. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Exit bans prevent those faced with legal proceedings from leaving Qatar until their case is abandoned or resolved.  This can take months or years. The Government of Qatar does not offer any social support for individuals under exit bans.

Reasons for exit bans can include:

  • Labor or financial disputes
  • Personal debt (including bounced checks, credit card debt, and bank loans)
  • Outstanding contracts or leases
  • Traffic fines
  • Pending legal matters, including cases related to gestures or behavior reported by Qataris that are viewed as “offensive.”

U.S. citizens have been subjected to exit bans and/or placed in prison pending payment of debts.

Always carry a copy of your passport for proof of identity, or authorities may detain you for questioning.

Criminal Penalties:  You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be arrested, deported, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the U.S., regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on  crimes against minors abroad  and the  Department of Justice  website.

Criminal penalties for certain offenses are much harsher than those in the U.S.:

  • Incidents involving obscene language, gestures, or insulting comments often result in arrest, imprisonment, and/or fines.
  • Alcohol-Related Offenses, including public intoxication, can result in severe penalties such as arrest, heavy fines, imprisonment, and/or deportation.  Qatar maintains a zero-tolerance policy against drinking and driving.
  • Use of Illegal Drugs can result in long jail sentences and steep fines.

Arrest Notification:  Qatari authorities do not routinely notify the U.S. Embassy of a U.S. citizen’s arrest. If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately. If you are not allowed to do so, ask a friend or family member to contact the U.S. Embassy.  See our  webpage  for further information.

For more serious crimes, Qatari authorities may not allow U.S. Embassy officials to visit until the initial interrogation is completed.

Qatari police sometimes arrest U.S. citizens without providing access to legal counsel.  You could be arrested for being a:

  • Potential witness to a crime (including traffic accidents involving injuries; slander, traffic arguments, etc.)
  • Relative of a suspect
  • Criminal Suspect

If arrested—regardless of the charge—you may spend 1-2 nights in jail before a hearing takes place. Once arrested, only the Qatari Public Prosecution and Courts have the authority to grant a release.

See our  webpage  for further information.

Qatari law favors employers over employees.  In the event of a contract or employment dispute, Qatari authorities refer to the Arabic language of a contract. Employees have limited recourse if their employer terminates a contract early. If a sponsor files a complaint against an employee who departed Qatar, the employee may be barred from returning to Qatar, even on a tourist or airport visa. Many terminated U.S. citizens have been barred from departing Qatar because of pre-existing debt.

Despite recent legal changes, transferring employment prior to the end of a contract often requires the permission of the previous employer and is subject to approval by the Ministry of the Interior. Additional mechanisms for transferring employers exist through the Ministry of Interior in cases such as bankruptcy, abuse, or repeated failure to pay an employee on time.

Drug Use: Most drugs that are illegal in the United States are also illegal in Qatar, including marijuana/THC, CBD products, and vape products. The potential consequences for use or possession may be harsh.

Clothing : Many public areas in Qatar have dress codes that require both men and women cover shoulders, chests, stomachs, and knees, and that tight leggings be covered by a long shirt or dress. Attire standards can vary between neighborhoods and facilities.  Faith-Based Travelers:  Religion is a very sensitive issue in Qatar; treat any discussions on religion with care and caution. The law provides for a prison sentence of up to seven years for defaming, desecrating, or committing blasphemy against Islam, Christianity, or Judaism. Public worship by non-Islamic faiths and atheism are illegal and subject to prosecution.

Proselytizing is against the law.  Attempts to covert a member of another religion or even “share your faith” can be considered “proselytizing.” Penalties cancan include deportation or imprisonment.

While you may import religious material for personal use,  bringing religious materials into the country for proselytizing purposes is prohibited.

Charitable activities, both religious and non-religious, must be approved in advance by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

See our following webpages for details:

  • Faith-Based Travel Information

LGBTQI+ Travelers:  Same-sex sexual relations between men are illegal, even if consensual. Penalties include lashing, lengthy prison sentences and/or deportation.

There is no law criminalizing same-sex sexual relations between women, though cultural norms are conservative.

Businesses are prohibited from selling and individuals are prohibited from distributing rainbow colored merchandise.

See our  LGBTI Travel Information  page and section 6 of our  Human Rights report  for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities: The law in Qatar prohibits discrimination against persons with physical, sensory, intellectual, or mental disabilities, the law is not enforced.  Social acceptance of persons with disabilities in public is not as prevalent as in the in the United States.  Expect accessibility to be limited in public transportation, lodging, communication/information, and general infrastructure.

Students : See our  Students Abroad  page and  FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers:  Unaccompanied expatriate women may be verbally and/or physically harassed. In deference to Islamic culture, avoid wearing sleeveless shirts, halter-tops, or shorts. Only wear athletic clothing in public when engaged in sports activities.

See our travel tips for  Women Travelers .

Journalists : Journalists, including independent content creators and vloggers, need specific visas and permissions to use photography and videography equipment, or to conduct interviews or reporting within Qatar. There is no legal guarantee of press freedom or freedom of expression in Qatar.

Photography : Photographing local people in Qatar, particularly women, is illegal without permission.

COVID-19 Testing:  COVID-19 tests are available from many local medical providers and hospitals. Testing is paid for by the individual or, in some instances, their insurance plan or employer. Private hospitals charge QR 50 - 160 test. Test results are usually provided by email, but some clinics require you to pick up the travel certificate in person. Please refer to the Ministry of Public Health’s webpage for additional information.

COVID-19 Vaccines:   The COVID-19 vaccine is available for U.S. citizens to receive in Qatar. Please refer to the Ministry of Public Health’s webpage for additional information.

Visit the FDA's website to learn more about FDA-approved vaccines in the United States.

Modern medical facilities and Western-style pharmacies are available. Doctors and hospitals expect immediate cash payment for health services.

For information on the Qatari national healthcare system, see the  Qatar Ministry of Health website .

For emergency services in Qatar, dial 999.

Ambulance services are widely available.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See  our webpage  for more information on insurance coverage. Visit the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  for more information on the type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas.

We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Some prescription medications from the United States are unavailable or restricted in Qatar, for example, stimulants, strong pain medications, and some medications used by HIV+ patients. Check with the  Qatari customs authority  on proper travel procedures and the  Ministry of Public Health  to ensure the medication is legal in Qatar. Discuss a health care plan with your doctor before you travel.

Contraceptives, Pregnancy, and Prenatal Care:  Sexual intercourse outside of marriage is illegal in Qatar.  As such, pregnant women must present a marriage certificate to receive prenatal care at medical facilities in Qatar.  Unmarried pregnant women should consult the U.S. Embassy prior to pursuing prenatal care in Qatar. Contraceptives are available over the counter with no prescription required. Emergency contraceptives are not available. We advise all travelers to plan accordingly.

Vaccinations : Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Further Health Information:

  • World Health Organization
  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC)

Air Quality:  Air quality is poor in Qatar, with frequent dust and particle pollution. Members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects. Visit  AirNow Department of State  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

The U.S. Embassy maintains a  list of doctors and hospitals . We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety: For current traffic regulations, see the  Ministry of Interior’s Traffic Police  website.

Driving:  The legal minimum driving age is 18.  Holders of a U.S. issued driver’s license can drive in Qatar for two weeks, but most car rental agencies require an international driver’s license. Three-month Temporary Licenses are available.  International Driving Licenses are valid in Qatar for six months from the date of arrival.  Resident expatriates should apply for a full Qatari license. If you are caught operating a vehicle without a valid license, penalties can be severe.  For more information, see the Qatari Traffic Services website .

Traffic accidents  are one of the leading causes of death in Qatar. The extensive use of roundabouts, numerous road construction projects, and high-speed driving can be challenging. In rural areas, poor lighting, wandering camels, and roads without shoulders create hazards.  If you are in an accident without a license, any insurance may be held invalid, and you could be left with extensive bills and legal charges.

Avoid arguments over traffic incidents . Qatari citizens who feel insulted can file a police complaint that can result in your arrest and overnight detention. Drivers are liable for persons injured in a traffic accident. Local police have held U.S. citizens overnight while ascertaining the extent of injuries.

Traffic Fines:  Please be aware that traffic offenses are easily captured via well-placed cameras and the fines can be expensive. Unpaid traffic fines can result in an exit ban until reconciled.

Public Transportation:  Regulated and registered taxi services (Uber, Karwa, Fox Transportation, and Careem) are widely available and generally safe to use. The Embassy recommends you avoid use unlicensed taxi operators or drivers who approach you and attempt to solicit business. Do not allow the driver to pick up additional passengers along the way. To avoid cultural misunderstandings, females traveling alone should always sit in the back (never the front) seat.

Qatar Rail : The Doha Metro is safe, modern, and inexpensive.

Mowasalat Public Bus : Laborers and construction workers predominantly use this mode of public transportation. The front seats in the buses are generally reserved for women and children. The U.S. Embassy recommends the use of regulated taxi services rather than public buses.

See our  Road Safety page  for more information.

Aviation Safety Oversight:  The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has assessed the government of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority as being in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards for oversight of Qatar’s air carrier operations. Further information may be found on the  FAA’s safety assessment page .

Maritime Travel:  Mariners planning travel to Qatar should also check for  U.S. maritime advisories and alerts . Information may also be posted to the  U.S. Coast Guard homeport website , and the NGA broadcast warnings .

TESTIMONIALS

travel registration qatar

It's our first time participating in this exhibition. Visit Malta is thrilled to have connected with quality buyers, travel agents, and media influencers. The event provided an excellent platform to showcase Malta's appeal, resulting in highly productive days that effectively promoted our destination in Qatar.

travel registration qatar

In our second participation, we're delighted to return after our initial foray into this market. Having gained familiarity with the Qatari market, we're keen on continuing our promotion of the Dominican Republic Destination. Thanks to the organizers for their meticulous planning. The current days have been productive, marked by professionalism, and we look forward to a similarly successful third Edition as we work towards achieving our goals.

travel registration qatar

This marks the second participation of Mowasalat, and we're proud to serve as the transport partner this year. It has been a resounding success with significant footfall and valuable interactions with numerous companies and potential customers. We eagerly anticipate our presence here next year and in the years to come.

travel registration qatar

As our first time participating at QTM, we've been impressed by the spectacular organization. As we were seeking a Destination Management Company (DMC) to provide information about our destination in the Middle East, we found what we were looking for. Our focus is on Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. While our primary partners are based in Europe, participating in events in this region, including Qatar, has revealed significant demand for our country. This positive response encourages our commitment, and we look forward to participating in the event again next year.

travel registration qatar

This is our first time at QTM. My primary objective was to engage with GCC travel agents, particularly in Doha, Qatar. Additionally, I aimed to reconnect with existing clients. Unlike larger travel shows, one-on-one meetings were challenging due to higher traffic, but I appreciated the quality of buyers at QTM this year. My ultimate goal is to achieve a positive return on investment (ROI), and if accomplished in a timely manner, I am committed to returning to QTM next year.

travel registration qatar

QTM serves as an excellent platform for reconnecting and engaging with potential buyers. The organizing company has executed a commendable job in orchestrating this second edition. Looking ahead, I anticipate the third edition to be even better and more expansive in meeting its targets.

travel registration qatar

The Development Support Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic is participating for the first time in QTM, and we are pleased with the well-organized event. Everything has been prepared meticulously, and we are content with our experience. Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans to return for the next year, building on the success of our current participation. Regarding our targets, we have successfully achieved approximately 30 B2B business meetings. This has been a fruitful engagement for us

travel registration qatar

It was our first time visiting Doha, Qatar. RM International, serving as the exclusive Greece and Cyprus agent for QTM exhibition. We extend our gratitude to NeXTfairs for the outstanding organization, which has brought great value to our customers. The experience has been so positive that we are committed to returning next year with a larger stand, representing the real estate sector of our countries. Thank you very much for this opportunity.

travel registration qatar

Having participated in the first edition, I've observed significant improvements in the current QTM exhibition. The organizing committee has demonstrated increased efficiency and effectiveness. I am optimistic about achieving my targets. Despite the busy days, I managed to secure a handful of leads. The exhibition has proven to be quite fruitful, and as a Qatar-based company, I am committed to supporting travel events in Qatar. Therefore, I will certainly be participating again next year.

travel registration qatar

Our participation in this event has exceeded expectations, thanks to Saudi Tourism's support in enabling numerous Saudi companies, including ours, to join. The strategic decision allowing Gulf residents direct entry into Saudi Arabia opens up a significant market. With direct flights from Doha to various Saudi cities, our focus on essential services aligns well. We anticipate even greater participation next year and express gratitude to Qatari authorities for their support.

travel registration qatar

Katara Hospitality, the founding partner of the exhibition, has made this our second year participating. The exhibition has successfully helped us achieve our objectives – securing new contracts and forging new partnerships with companies we hadn't engaged with before. We have also witnessed the participation of many companies and countries from outside Doha, which is a testament to the success of the exhibition and based on this, we look forward to participating in future editions."

travel registration qatar

"This year's participation was highly beneficial for us as the number of visitors increased, and there were more participants compared to the previous edition. It was a fruitful experience as it allowed us to showcase our facilities, and services, and connect with partners in the tourism and travel industry. We are strategizing to develop the tourism sector in Qatar in alignment with the country's vision for 2030. As for future participation, we plan to be involved because, ultimately, it is an exhibition that honours Qatar, and we, as participants, take pride in contributing to showcasing the latest updates in the hospitality, tourism, and travel sectors.

travel registration qatar

We are honoured to be present in Qatar. The event organization is exceptionally well-organized. What impressed me the most was the professionalism of the hosted buyers, coming from diverse markets, and providing excellent networking opportunities beyond the Qatari market. The sessions alongside the conference were a standout feature. Honestly, we look forward to participating more. This year, we represent a hotel group from Egypt, and next year, we hope to have an even larger representation from Egypt.

travel registration qatar

This is our second participation in the exhibition, and what stands out is the continuous improvement from year to year, especially in terms of the increasing number and quality of visitors. The presence of high-quality buyers has become more prominent, with a focus on specific sectors such as hotels and tourism companies. It's notable that private companies are participating, promoting the exhibition even outside Qatar, and conducting their promotional campaigns. We've also observed increased participation from other countries, indicating a growing interest in supporting tourism in Qatar.
