We took this bus tour with YMT recently, visiting some of the famous National Parks in Nevada, California, Utah and Arizona - Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Grand Canyon and Zion. The tour is 14 days long and YMT offers this tour from May to Sept, you can get the detailed itinerary and specific dates from their website (YMT Vacations). We wanted a bus tour as we could not do that itinerary by ourselves and am posting this review here as an alternative to consider for those who would also like to leave the driving, making hotel accommodations, etc to others.

We had some misgivings about going with YMT initially as we could not find any review about this particular Tour by YMT, and we read a few negative reviews about YMT on the internet. However we liked their itinerary and choice of parks, and their price was simply unbeatable. Other Tour Companies we looked at such as Trafalgar, Globus, Cosmos, Brendan, Intrepid, Contiki ..., were much more expensive (see Vacations To Go website). Although price should not be the only consideration, it turned out that we had a very good experience with YMT on this particular tour and we can recommend it without hesitation.

The travellers were mainly Americans and Canadians, majority were retirees with a few younger travellers but everyone interacted quite well and we all had a good time. Travelling with seniors is not a disadvantage as the Tour Guide and Driver were very aware of this and treated us exceptionally well, no rush, lots of time for sightseeing, and provided multiple stops along the way for bio breaks. On the longer journeys it was nice to hear the various personal stories, where they came from, how they met their spouses, which part of the tour we liked best so far, what are our favourite world trips.

The tour begins and ends in Las Vegas, we were put up in the Golden Nugget (great downtown hotel and casino) on Fremont Street which is a fantastic tourist area by itself (Fremont Street Experience and nightly Light show), but it was very easy to hop on the local bus and get to The Strip for the full Vegas experience. A tip here - Las Vegas and surrounding areas get very hot during the summer months, if you want to see Death Valley which is mentioned in the YMT itinerary then plan your trip for the earlier or later months, we went in mid-July and did not get to see DV as the temp there was over 115F. However we saw all the other NPs and places as advertised and enjoyed the tours and visits immensely. This tour is about breadth and exposure to some of the best National Parks of the southwest, and not about any detailed depth and intensity of visit – you would need to spend several days at each park for that kind of experience. It is also a photographer’s dream as the highlights and points of visit are well chosen, you can trek some of the trails, the views are simply stunning and we had enough time and saw most of the popular and famous points in each park visited. Some faves included General Sherman redwood in Sequoia and General Grant Grove in Kings Canyon; Tunnel view, Bridal Veil, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan and half Dome in Yosemite (Ansel Adams country); Delicate Arch, Landscape Arch and the other arches, windows and formations in Arches; the sweeping views of Canyonlands; the Petroglyphs in Capitol Reef; the fairytale hoodoos in Bryce; the panoramic vistas and deeply carved stratas of Grand Canyon; and the towering formations of Zion.

Contrary to what the YMT site said, these tours do provide a full time tour guide along with the driver (their site said that the driver also does the narration). A good tour guide and driver can make or break a tour, and we had two exceptional people here who really took care of us. Brian our driver made sure that the bus was always on time, that all luggage was on and off promptly, kept a clean bus, provided cold bottled water, and knew the best supermarkets to shop in and best places for bio-breaks. Our tour guide Steve (ex-teacher) was very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and would give us the geographical facts and figures, and engage us on a variety of American history and world travel topics. As examples of great service, they organized and provided snacks and drinks for a surprise picnic lunch in Winnemucca; they got in touch with and drove back to the McDonalds near Great Salt Lake to retrieve a fellow travellers’ purse that was lost there; they took us back in the morning to see a featured view of the hoodoos (Inspiration Point) at Bryce Canyon because it was raining the evening before and not everyone was able to see it then.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of the hotels in view of the very reasonable package cost, they were mainly superior or better than average for the areas (Golden Nugget in Vegas, Best Western in Bakersfield, Fresno and Bryce Canyon, John Ascuaga Nugget in Reno, Shilo Inn in Elko, Red Lion in Salt Lake City, River Canyon Lodge in Moab, Yavapai Lodge West in the Grand Canyon). The accommodations were either centrally located or else close to food and shopping, all rooms had coffee makers, all had AC with the exception of Yavapai (AC wasn’t needed and there was a ceiling fan), the beds were comfy for a good night’s sleep and amenities were generally very good, a few had swimming pools, some have fridge and microwave making it easy to prepare snacks or breakfast, quite a few provided complimentary breakfasts, many had large screen LCD TVs, most provided free wi-fi, and a few had in-room safes.

Bus tours are not for everyone, you have to get up early and be on the road, the routes can be very long but frequent stops give you a chance to stretch and refresh (this tour covered four States and over 2,000 miles) and we definitely could not have done the driving by ourselves. Like most bus tours, YMT rotate your seating on the bus so everyone gets a front seat/view and you get to meet more fellow travellers that way. Hotel room keys are distributed on the bus so there isn’t a congregation in the hotel lobby, luggage is delivered to your rooms and picked up by hotel staff in the morning. Plus wakeup calls every morning.

Booking the land-tour with YMT was relatively easy and friendly (we made our own flight arrangements), they send you confirmations by e-mail and regular mail. Plus there is an area on their website where you can log in to see your reservations/confirmations, the list of hotels, and to pre-book optional tours. All in all I must say that I really enjoyed this particular Parks Tour by YMT, it was really excellent value for the money.

So Las Vegas-Death Valley-Bakersfield-Seki-Yosemite-Reno-Winnemucca-Salt Lake City-Moab-Bryce-Grand Canyon-Las Vegas-Zion-Las Vegas in 13 days. YIKES. Glad you've had a great trip but 4 weeks already will be short if you take your time.

Thanks for posting your trip report!! We've had people post about Tauk and Caravan tours but not YMT.

thanks for the report! Most of us drive on our own, so it's great to get a report for a bus trip. Good info for those who wish to travel that way. Glad you enjoyed it too :)

As you say you got to experience the 'breadth and exposure to some of the best National Parks of the southwest, and not about any detailed depth and intensity of visit'.

Some of my first road trips were like that, in fact the itinerary you had in Utah brought back memories : ). I don't think I'd suggest it as a self drive (despite what some of my friend on this forum might think!). but its great you enjoyed it, wouldn't want to be the coach driver though!

Thanks for taking the time to do a report. I agree with the others that it is good to see a positive report as there are always those who are looking for an escorted tour.

My experience with Bea

We made calls to YMT last week. We talked to Bea. We have had her before, so she knew us. She greeted us with "welcome back". How nice! Bea went over the information, then gave us options and allowed us to think things over before we made the decision. She sent text and followed up with calls. I am truly happy with the service I received.

Tammy is the best🤗

Tammy is the best, she helps us find what we want to do with care and kindness even though we are often undecided and a lot of trouble, we are “older” ladies trying to get our plans together and get the most out of life and the best possible deals. She calls back, checks on our trips, and is an absolute pleasure to work with.

The key to cuistomer service for me is knowing they care about my needs.

The key to customer service for me is to know that the questions I ask are just as important to the service representative as they are to me. YMT scored great in every aspect. I am looking forward to our trip.

Ridiculous cancellation policy …

We were a loyal customer & took five other trips with YMT in the past & have never been treated bad. We booked another cruise with YMT & unfortunately had to cancel due to my health. I have to undergo heart surgery & was unsure so we thought we’d cancel in plenty of time to get our money back, Cruise wasn’t scheduled to depart until 2025, & we canceled within 10 days of booking it. Nothing was done to warrant keeping our $500.00 deposit. Unfortunately YMT is keeping our deposit. Obviously money means more to the company than keeping good relationships. We won’t be using YMT services again!!

Editoral Review of YMT Vacations

Standing for “Your Man Tours” YMT Vacations, or just YMT, was founded in the late 1960s - as a pioneer guided tour company, responding to a rapidly emerging travel industry.

What Makes YMT Vacations Stand Out?

One of the main things to note about YMT is their breadth of experience in conducting guided tours. Starting in 1967, as a small local operator in the US - they have grown practically right along with the guided tour industry. This gives them the knowledge and expertise necessary for the kinds of tours they operate.

Today they offer three styles of travel: guided tours, river cruises, and ocean cruises (which include a land portion).

Who Will Enjoy Traveling With YMT?

Mature travelers in the 50+ range seeking a comfortable and easy all-inclusive travel experience will love the YMT approach. You’ll find a good balance of cultural activities, an easy going pace, and frequent breaks for photo stops and leg-stretching.

YMT tours are geared toward the budget conscious traveler.

These tours are fully escorted, and involve transportation in large coaches, or via cruise. You will be around the same people and guides for the tour’s duration. Older travelers who are concerned about the opportunities to stretch their legs needn’t worry. Coaches stop every two hours, and cruises are large with plenty of room to walk around comfortably.

YMT is about classic packaged travel - don’t expect to get too far off the beaten path during the itinerary. Additionally if having some free time to yourself to explore is important, you may want to look into other options first. The appeal of YMT is in their low prices and package deals; nearly everything is included other than meals.

If you are the kind of traveler who likes culturally immersive small group, thematic tours, you may find the YMT approach a bit underwhelming. YMT Vacations are ideal for first time travelers, or travelers for whom relaxing on a large cruise ship sailing through Europe on a sundeck with a pool is the perfect travel experience.

Top Destinations

Currently YMT offers tours around the globe. They are especially popular for Europe travel, including large cruises plus land tour portions. Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Asia, and The Americas are also offered.

They have their roots in the US however, and are well known for their Hawaii, Alaska, and California tours (some specifically dedicated to the Rose Parade).

YMT Travel Style

Tours are designed to fall into 5 broad activity levels, the lowest being “Relaxed” and the highest being “Active.” In their case “Active” refers to longer itineraries and less leisure or free time. Groups are small to large. Trips are affordable and certain customizations are available.

1. Relaxed - You’ll travel at a leisurely pace, with very little walking. You should be able to navigate stairs or gangways to board cruise ships.

2. Easy Going - These tours usually include walking tours. Be prepared for very slight gradations and some stairs. You’ll also encounter uneven surfaces, such as cobblestones, on some tours.

3. Moderate - More activities are included on these tours, and you may be standing a lot as well as walking for longer distances.

4. Active - These trips may visit more exotic destinations where you could experience dramatic changes in temperature and altitude. You’ll also be expected to be able to climb several stairs and walk long distances.Travel days may also be longer, with a lot of climbing up and down from the bus.

5. Very Active - Expect limited free time and a very busy, jam packed tour schedule.

Why Choose a Tour with YMT?

YMT has a long history in the travel industry - their guides and planners have everything down to a science. You know you’re in incredibly good hands when traveling with them. They are attractive to older travelers so you’re sure to meet good friends in the same age range. Trips are fun, easy, and all about seeing wonderful sights in comfort and ease.

If you are new to international travel and don’t want to miss the classics, this could be a great place to start. You don’t have to do any of the planning, and can enjoy many amenities available aboard large cruise ships, river cruises, and wonderful hotels. It’s a great combination of cultural and historical travel with all the best that comes from a vacation package.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
