THE DOOBIE BROTHERS ADD MORE CANADIAN DATES TO THE 2024 TOUR
NOW INCLUDES STOPS IN LONDON, KITCHENER, LAVAL, KINGSTON, QUEBEC CITY AND SAINT JOHN
(TORONTO, ON) May 6, 2024 – Four-time GRAMMY Award winners and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, The Doobie Brothers , have announced Canadian dates on The 2024 Tour which will touch down in 44 cities across North America, many of which the band has not played in several years. The 2024 Tour will go on to major markets like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York City at Madison Square Garden on August 7, 2024, before making its way up North hitting cities in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.
For the US dates, the Doobie Brothers will also be joined by GRAMMY Award winning artists Robert Cray and Steve Winwood on various dates. A Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Robert Cray and his band have been touring worldwide since 1974, and singer-songwriter Steve Winwood has composed countless hits over the past five decades including “Higher Love,” “Valerie,” “Back In The High Life Again,” among many others.
The 2024 Tour follows The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour which had TOM JOHNSTON, MICHAEL MCDONALD, PAT SIMMONS and JOHN MCFEE back on the road together for the first time in over 25 years. Selling nearly 50 million albums worldwide, The Doobie Brothers have had five top-10 singles, 16 top-40 hits, 3 multi-platinum albums, 7 platinum albums, 14 gold albums and own a rare diamond record for their 1976 album, Best of the Doobies .
In 2023, the band released a new single, “Lahaina” , their first release since their 2021 album Liberté. The song, which also featured Mick Fleetwood , Jake Shimabukuro , and Henry Kapono , is in support of those affected by the devastating fires in Maui last year. Along with this new music, The Doobie Brothers’ collection of timeless hits will once again be played by the artists who wrote them, providing fans the rare opportunity to see these Rock and Roll legends performing their full catalog of songs on stage.

The Doobie Brothers are a rock band from the USA. They have sold over 40 million albums worldwide throughout their career, and have been active for five decades. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
John Hartman arrived in California in 1969 with the hopes of meeting Skip Spence of Moby Grape. Spence introduced Hartman to singer-songwriter Tom Johnston and the two musicians later became the engine behind The Doobie Brothers. They began by calling their band, “Pud” and went through a few line up changes sometimes including Skip Spence. It was in 1970 when they met Dave Shogren and another singer songwriter called Patrick Simmons, who had really made a name for himself in the local scene, but he really worked well alongside the line up that was beginning to form. Playing all over Northern California earned them a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1971.
It was over the next five years that they would become an international hit, with their sophomore album “Toulouse Street” released July 1972, going Platinum in the US and charting in Australia and New Zealand as well. “The Captain and Me”, released in March 1973, followed suit but this time going 2x Multi-Platinum. A similar pattern happened over the next couple of years in the form of “What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits” and “Stampede” both being top 4 albums in the US, and then in 1976, along came soulful power house, Michael McDonald. Under a contract to release an album in 1976, the Doobies were in a difficult situation where their main songwriter was unavailable so they turned to McDonald and Porter for material. With this request came the album “Takin’ It to the Streets” which was released on March 19th 1976. With the success of this album seeing it make it to number 8 in the Pop Albums Chart, The Doobie Brothers asked McDonald if he’d like to continue working with them for their next record. Fast forward a couple of successful albums to 1979, which is when they released an album called “Minute by Minute”, and on that album featured a song called “What a Fool Believes”, written by McDonald and Kenny Loggins. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 14th 1979, and received Grammy Awards in 1980 for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Over the course of the next couple of years, The Doobies embarked on world tours but unfortunately due to many issues between band members, exhaustion and disillusion, there were no original members left. Michael McDonald was ready for a solo career, so the band elected to disband. Of course, the band briefly disbanded and effectively hibernated for the next four years before making a comeback in the form of an album called “Cycles” which was released on May 17th 1989, this time without McDonald.
Live reviews
I enjoyed the show. It was what I expected, having seen them several times. It is an emotional connection for me. It . will always be my travelling music. I was married on Valentines Day of 1973, and we drove from Vsncouver down USA 101. We had an 8 track at the time, and it was part of our driving music. It makes me very noststalgic for a happy, and innocent time. Though I lost my husbsnd it was the music of that time. We selected the Doobies, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, America, C.S N.Y. ,Steve Miller Band, Yes, E.LO. E L.P. Bob Seeger, as the core of our "tunes" We also had select Jazz tapes as my husband was a jazz musician. Those tunes always return me to a time of experiencing some of the happiest times of my life. It was a time for discovery, adventure, and being in a state of bliss. I had never travelled past Seattle, and the Oregon coast was all and more than what I had hoped for. I remember running down the beach, and the wind made my sweater into a following cape. The waves broke on the beach, and this roiled up a seafoam. I recall pictures of me standing on a rock with this foam surrounding me, and it looked like snow. When we left Vancouver there had been s a late snow on the ground, and this appeared ss dnow in the photos we had taken. (We had to get films developed in those days). It was an unexpected discovery when we eagerly looked over our photos, taken with a Kodak camera I got when I was 12. It worked very well, and I quite miss it. The best part of our trip for me was the feeling of freedom, and whole and really loved for the first time in my life, and accepted for who I was. The trip was so powerful for me, and us, as best friends and partners. It was a discovery of landscapes, beauty of nature, a security found in each other, and a liberation on many levels, and a new chapter in life, which, I have never forgotten. Those glorious songs trigger a palpable response, that has transcended time for me. It was a ticket to a show and a special time in my life. I had those photos taken ftom me, "but the song remains the same " to me, and the music holds my memories.

Absolutely awesome concert! They are tighter than ever and still play very energetically. They obviously enjoy the music very much, This is not a job... it's a joy! I'm a musician and there are times in your career that you just don't want to play another note. You don't even want to listen to music. Although the road can make you weary, the days of agony are over for the Doobs. They do it because they love it. They have big hearts. It's charity, in fact, that kept them together. May they continue to play the music that will always sell out any venue they care to play. Hot dogs, apple pie, baseball and of course, The Doobie Brothers! The Doobies have always been environmentally conscientious and patriotic. The concert was preceded by a Pledge of Allegiance, and a ceremony honoring our men and women in uniform. This included a moment of silence for all those Missing In Action or Prisoners of War, and the singing of The National Anthem. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. The musicians are still awesome and played some great music. I would go see them again anytime.
I have loved the Doobie Brothers since the 70s & they didn't disappoint in 2017!! They still look & sound as wonderful (if not better)than they did back in the day! Touring with Chicago, this concert was one of the best I have seen so far this year! The only downer for me was the crowd at the Austin 360 Amphitheater. Yes, we are all older than we were back in the 70s & 80s, but show the artist, that is performing for you, that you STILL LOVE their music! They want to see people enjoying, dancing, singing their songs. You SIT @ a symphony, NOT A ROCK N ROLL CONCERT!!!! Austin, TX is suppose to be the music capital of the world, but Saturday night I felt like I was sitting at an old folks home! Get up & enjoy the music, you never know if this will be the last time they tour & perform! If you have the opportunity to jam with The Doobie Brothers & Chicago ~ GO!!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!! FANTASTIC SHOW!!
Bluesfest Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers
The Doobie Brothers were up first. With their mix of southern rock, country, folk, R&B and soul, the current lineup rotated from three guitars and bass, to acoustic guitars, harmonica, electric violin, along with the excellent sax playing of Marc Russo, keyboards of Little Feet’s Bill Payne complementing the vocal harmonies of Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and John Mcfee that defines The Doobie Brothers music. All the classics were played. Starting with Jesus is Just Alright, Rockin’ Down the Highway, Take Me in Your Arms, Taking to the Streets, Black Water, Long Train Runnin’, China Grove and my personal favourite, Clear as the Driven Snow and finishing with Listen to The Music. By the end of the set, everyone was on there feet and dancing…Brilliant evening
When we saw Don Felder being advertised with the Doobies I misunderstood and thought he was playing in their band. Well he turned out to be the jewel of the show, not only for the quality of his work, but the audio level that he worked at. You could hear the words and the distinction in the solos. No one drowned out the other. The Doobies were garbled and played way too loud for this venue. We left early with our ears ringing. Very disappointed. The venue Austin City Limits at Moody Theatre was good with excellent visibility and good acoustics. We will go back to this venue as we had cheaper seats in the balcony, but could see and hear well.I would advise against the pricey seats in the orchestra as many fans stood up during the performance. Who wants to pay big and then be inconvenienced?
Doobie Brothers is one of my favourite all time
Bands and I have come to the conclusion that I like the music produced when Michael McDonald was part of the band. I am not a fan of the highway rock and roll, folk or country and western style music
playef in Sydney on 13 April 2017. It is what it is
Playlist. What made the experience almost intolerable was that the sound produced was awful. Either the engineer fell asleep on the controls or was hearing impaired. Wasn't the venue as Santana who followed had great sound.
Honestly one of the best nights of my life, never thought I'd ever get to see Doobie Brothers live on stage, still seems like a dream. The night was amazing, the band was electrifying, the lights and musical performance were mesmerising, the energy and charisma of the guy's had us the audience hooked from the very first note. I've always had their CD's, but to hear them singing and watch their performance on stage is truly exceptional, if they ever come back to Glasgow I would love to see them again, OUTSTANDING, X
The Doobie Brothers were in Seattle last Saturday for the Northwest Classic concert series. They opened up for the Eagles, but the Doobie's should have head lined the show. Their vocals and their musicianship were in fine form. This is the best the band has sounded in a few years.
Safeco Stadium held all 33,000+ of us safe and in a fun environment. No security issues... very peaceful crowd.
This was my 45th Doobie Brothers Concert... and it was one of their best shows! The boys know how to 'kick it'.
The band was truly excellent. The vocals were as great as they were when they started out. They have such distinctive and cool voices! The guitar playing was top notch and the sax player was excellent. Overall they were truly great. The Doovies opened for Steely Dan and the two acts together were awesome. This was a concert not to miss. I recommend this show to anyone at any age. In fact, I recommend it to a younger crowd to get a true education on two great long standing rock groups.
I have listened to the Doobie Brothers since a was in my teens. My dad was a gigantic fan and I guess it rubbed off on me also! My Dad passed on in 2007 and I inherited his automobile. While driving along one day on my commute to work, I looked in his CD compartment and found 3 Doobie Brothers CD'S! Now, whenever I drive Dad's car a part of him is sitting right next to me singing away! That is the closeness a Father & Daughter could ever hope for and it was helped along by the Doobie Brothers!

The Doobie Brothers take Pine Knob on a trip back to the 70s with Steve Winwood

It felt like 1975 all over again at Pine Knob as the reunited Doobie Brothers celebrated 50+ years since the release of their first album in 1971.
And this night was a little extra special as one of the band’s founding members, Tom Johnston, was celebrating his 76th birthday, born on August 15, 1948.
“This is a special evening because my friend here is turning 39 again, co-founding member, Patrick Simmons joked. “After 53 years of playing with this guy, I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be standing next to him once again this evening on his birthday.”
The band also featured longtime members John McFee and Michael McDonald, along with Marc Russo on sax, Ed Toth on drums and Marc Quinones on percussion.
But before The Doobies took fans on a journey back to the 70s, another living legend took the stage at 7:00 p.m. in Steve Winwood.
Steve Winwood performs at Pine Knob in Clarkston, Michigan on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Mirak Habbiyyieh / Mezgarth
The former member of Traffic and the Spencer Davis Group played 10 songs in his hour-long set, including a couple each from the bands we just mentioned like “I’m a Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin’,” along with solo hits with “Higher Love,” “Back in the High Life Again” and “Roll With It.”
Winwood’s voice was absolutely on-point and it was a treat to hear him perform.
The Doobies started performing at 8:30 p.m. and went an hour and 40 minutes and played everything fans wanted to hear and then some. And they acknowledged their long history with the amphitheatre.
“Pine Knob. We’ve played this place more than any place in the whole country,” Simmons said.
The band was energetic and sounded great with Johnston, McDonald and Simmons taking turns on lead vocals. McFee took lead one one as well.

The voices were strong, the harmonies were soothing and Russo’s sax solos were a-plenty.
There weren’t many bells and whistles. It was just straight up music with only a video screen behind the band which showed some cheesy animations and some cool videos of the band throughout the years.
Songs included: “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “You Belong to Me,” “It Keeps You Runnin’,” “Minute by Minute,” “Jesus is Alright,” “What a Fool Believes,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Groove,” “Black Water,” “Takin it to the Streets” and “Listen to the Music.”
A no frills concert, where the live music did all of the talking. Just what fans wanted and The Doobies delivered in a big way.

Doobie Brothers Celebrate Over 50 Years in Music With Special Pine Knob Concert
Chris Piner
Updated:
While started in San Jose, California during the 1970s, Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons had no idea what the future would hold for the Doobie Brothers . Loving to blend folk, country, and R&B, the group released over a dozen studio albums. Their last album to release was back in 2021. Spending over 50 years in the music industry, the band recently took over the Pine Knob Theatre for a special performance that showcased their rich history and even included other musicians like Steve Winwood.
Having played the venue numerous times over the decades, the Doobie Brothers felt right at home when they took the stage. But this time was a little more special given that Johnston celebrated his 75th birthday. Born on August 15, 1948, Simmons took some time to hurl some jokes at his friend. “This is a special evening because my friend here is turning 39 again. After 53 years of playing with this guy, I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be standing next to him once again this evening on his birthday.”

The Doobie Brothers Extend Their 2024 Tour
Walking on stage around 8:30 p.m., the Doobie Brothers took fans on a trip into the past as they played for nearly two hours. Covering some of their most popular songs, the night welcomed more than the group as Winwood kicked the evening off. A member of bands like Traffic and the Spencer Davis Group, Winwood took the stage to perform songs like “Gimme Some Lovin’” and “Higher Love.”
With the Doobie Brothers and Winwood entertaining the crowd, fans received a special treat that featured great music and a great deal of history. Among the songs the group performed throughout the night included “Minute by Minute”, “You Belong to Me”, and “Jesus is Alright.”
Currently helming their 2024 tour, the Doobie Brothers appear in high spirits as they recently extended their tour with new dates in New York. Thrilled by the reception they received on the road, Simmons told USA Today , “We’ll be playing all the iconic songs that we know you want to hear, as well a few new tunes, and deep cuts that will make this a show to remember. We…can hardly wait to rock out Doobie style!”

REVIEW: The Doobie Brothers with Steve Winwood at Riverbend Music Center
Jon calderas .
The Doobie Brothers have been around in various permutations since 1970, but this tour is a bit special because Michael McDonald is joining founding members Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons this go around. Over the course of the evening, all three members took turns doing vocals as they curated their long back catalog. Riverbend was packed on what turned out to be a terrific evening weather-wise.
The Doobies came out swinging with the one-two combo of the Motown raveup “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)” and the swampy funk of “Here to Love You”.
The raucous crowd stood and clapped as the band settled into their groove.
Throughout the night, videos of the younger band played behind them as they careened through various musical styles – the countryish “Cannonball,” the rocking “Sweet Maxine” (faster and tougher than expected), the Sam-and-Dave mojo of “Eyes of Silver,” the Cajun vibe of “World Gone Crazy." This is a tight, tight band and they’ve honed their act to razor sharpness over five decades.
It was great to see Michael McDonald back with them, playing keys and singing leads on select songs. That iconic voice has weathered like bluff granite and is still unmistakable. I’m a huge fan of his voice and it’s the soundtrack for my summer (SiriusXM Yacht Rock station bumper: “If you changed your wi-fi network name to Michael McDownloads, you’re having a yacht rock summer”). On record, “You Belong to Me” is smoky and soulful, with ample space for McDonald’s voice to linger. Live, it was overlayed with an opening sax solo, and the song was roughed up to incorporate the rest of the band. “It Keeps You Running “was funkier and had more swagger than the recorded version, which was a bit jarring. But, “Minute by Minute” was terrific and gelled well. Still great, but I would have liked to hear the songs breathe a bit more and let his iconic voice shine a bit more.
The Doobies closed out the main set a strong run: a go-to-church “Jesus is Just Alright with Me” (replete with giant projected stained-glass windows), “What a Fool Believes,” an epic “Long Train’ Runnin’” that highlighted the entire band and the FM radio staple “China Grove.”
For the encore, they dove into the folksy classic, “Black Water;” noticing the full moon above, they sang, “Ohio moon, won’t you keep on shining on me” as acoustic guitar and fiddle laced the air. The concert closed out with a soulful version of “Takin’ It to the Streets” (where McDonald’s voice matched perfectly with the band) and a rousing “Listen to the Music.”
Opener Steve Winwood has been in the biz since he broke out at fifteen with The Spencer Davis Group. Winwood can still rip through that group’s “I’m a Man” and “Gimme Some Lovin’” like a teen, but it’s a joy to see him revisit eclectic material from Blind Faith, Traffic, and his long solo career (Traffic’s “Forty Thousand Headmen” was a cool, left-field choice). Last night he joined a band appointed with sax, flute, congas, drums, piano, organ, and his daughter Lily as backup singer.
At 76, Winwood is a master musician and whether it was playing the urgent cascading piano trill opening of “Glad” or singing and playing guitar against the fingerpicking melancholy of “Can’t Find My Way Home”, he was in total control of the pulse of the set. It seemed like everyone in the band was a crack musician-trading off instruments (piano, organ, guitar, mandolin as needed). The highlight of the hour-long set was “Dear Mr. Fantasy”. The band stretched the Traffic classic out into a long jam, allowing Winwood to rip off several scorching electric guitar solos. I always think of him as a keyboard player (easy to do when you spend time in a band with Dave Mason), but Winwood is a damned fine guitar player as well. The guy can do it all.
It would have been nice to hear more of his latter-day solo career material, but with a short opening set, “Roll with It,” “Higher Love,” and “Back in the High Life Again” were all he could squeeze in. A stellar, satisfying set, nonetheless, and a great setup for The Doobies.

Your favorite blue-eyed soul Rock and Roll Hall of Famers can’t get enough of the road.
The Doobie Brothers — currently midway through their ‘The 2024 Tour’ with special guests Steve Winwood and Robert Cray — just announced they’re adding four concerts to their summer and fall run.
Michael McDonald and co. will now headline back-to-back shows at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre on Monday, Sept. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 1 .
After that, the “Takin’ It To The Street” classic rockers swoop into Atlantic City’s Borgata Event Center on Friday, Oct. 4 and Uncasville, CT’s Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Those aren’t The Doobie Brothers’ only NY/NJ gigs this year, though.
They’re also slated to headline previously announced concerts at Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Aug. 13, Syracuse, NY’s Oncenter on Friday, Sept. 27 and Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
“We’ll be playing all the iconic songs that we know you want to hear, as well a few new tunes, and deep cuts that will make this a show to remember,” guitarist Pat Simmons told USA Today when the tour was announced back in January. “We…can hardly wait to rock out Doobie style!”
If this sounds like the show for you, tickets are available for all 2024 Doobie Brothers concerts as of today.
Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming shows on sites like Vivid Seats ; the official on-sale for the four new Northeast shows is Friday, Aug. 16.
Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.
They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.
A complete calendar including tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.
When you have as many beloved hits as The Doobie Brothers — personally, we can’t get enough of the upbeat 1974 classic “Black Water” — it’s hard to construct a set list.
However, it looks like the band has settled on one they like quite a bit that pays homage to their impressive catalog.
Take a look below to see what the band played at most shows on their 2022 tour.
01.) “Nobody”
02.) “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)” (Kim Weston cover)
03.) “Here to Love You”
04.) “Dependin’ on You”
05.) “Rockin’ Down the Highway”
06.) “You Belong to Me”
07.) “Easy”
08.) “South City Midnight Lady”
09.) “Clear as the Driven Snow”
10.) “It Keeps You Runnin’”
11.) “Another Park, Another Sunday”
12.) “Eyes of Silver”
13.) “Better Days”
14.) “Don’t Ya Mess With Me”
15.) “Real Love”
16.) “World Gone Crazy”
17.) “Minute by Minute”
18.) “Without You”
19.) “Jesus Is Just Alright” (The Art Reynolds Singers cover)
20.) “What a Fool Believes” (Kenny Loggins cover)
21.) “Long Train Runnin’”
22.) “China Grove”
23.) “Black Water”
24.) “Takin’ It to the Streets”
25.) “Listen to the Music”
The above set list was courtesy of Set List FM ; their site features an archive of all Doobie Brothers concerts dating all the way back to a February 1971 gig at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, CA.
The San Jose-based band today consists of lead singer Michael McDonald and guitarists Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee.
That’s not the whole band, though.
These days, the core quartet are joined by touring musicians John Cowan (bass, vocals), Marc Russo (saxophones), Ed Toth (drums), and Marc Quiñones (percussion).
In 2023, Michael McDonald and co. collaborated with Mick Fleetwood and Jake Shimabukuro on the single “Lahaina,” a contemplative ode to the Hawaiian island.
Before that, the band delivered the rockin’ 12-track “Liberté” in October 2021.
For our money, the pulsing “Cannonball” is the standout song here; it doesn’t quite fit in with the Doobies’ greatest hits of yesteryear but introduces a new modern folk sound more in line with The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons.
The soaring “Shine Your Light” and throwbacks “Easy” and “Just Can’t Do This Alone” will surely have audiences waving their lighters high in the air at live shows, too.
Finally, “Amen Old Friend,” the album’s last song, likely won’t leave a single eye dry at concerts.
If you want to hear the exciting, sonically diverse record for yourself, you can find “Liberté” here .
At all concerts, the Doobie Brothers will welcome either Winwood or Cray to get things started.
To make sure you’re up to date on their work, we’ve listed each artist’s most streamed song on Spotify below.
Steve Winwood: “Higher Love”
Robert Cray: “Right Next Door (Because Of Me)”
Many acts that have been hoofing it for a half century are out and about this year.
Here are just five of our favorite classic rockers that may be coming to a city near you in the next few months.
• Ringo Starr
• David Gilmour
• Robert Plant
• Eric Clapton
• REO Speedwagon
