In addition to snorkeling equipment, tourgoers also have access to boogie boards, pool noodles and a slide on the boat. The trip also includes breakfast and a deli-style lunch with beer, wine and mai tais, as well as nonalcoholic beverages. Travelers report seeing lots of wildlife and praise the friendly crew.
Tours are generally available Tuesday, Friday and Sunday with a 6 a.m. check-in time. You may receive a slight discount by booking online ahead of time. Kauai Sea Tours – Na Pali Raft Tour
Price: Adults from $190; kids from $180 Duration: 5 to 5.5 hours

Thanks to the boat's design, it can access sea caves, go beneath waterfalls and hug the coast, allowing passengers an up-close look at nature. Participants have the opportunity to snorkel and enjoy a packed lunch and nonalcoholic drinks while on the excursion. Tour-takers praise the crew and say they enjoy the views and the plentiful wildlife, ranging from dolphins to monk seals to turtles. Others caution the ride can get choppy.
Trips depart at 7 a.m. year-round, and additional tours at 1:30 p.m. are offered from June through August. Kids must be 7 or older to participate. The company also offers whale watching tours and sunset cruises on traditional boats.
Na Pali Coast Tours – Na Pali Sight See Adventure

Calling all thrill-seekers! This catamaran tour departing from Hanalei Bay promises lots of adventure, jaw-dropping views and plenty of speed. As you travel along the coast, keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, sea turtles, humpback whales (in winter), waterfalls and rainbows. Travelers rave about the stunning views and appreciate the captain and crew's knowledge of the island's history and wildlife. Reviewers also appreciate the ability to access multiple sea caves thanks to the boat's easy maneuverability. Though the boat affords up-close views of the coast, it doesn't protect against sea spray and is not equipped with a restroom, so keep that in mind when booking.
Tours typically depart Monday through Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (though offerings may vary by season). A maximum of 18 passengers are permitted on board. Due to the more adventurous nature of this tour, it's not recommended for children younger than 4 years old, pregnant people or those with back or neck issues. If you're hoping to explore in the water, consider the company's four-hour snorkeling tour.

Top-rated kauai boat tours ★★★★★.
"First: Since the have a small nice boat it is good space. We were a couple and it was 3 others in the boat. Many other companies have a crowded boats (50 plus people). After a short drive we got to see a bunch of dolphins. Great experience!! Drive up the coast with nice stories and scenery was perfect. Only to stop and swim with some turtles. A perfect day!"
"This was absolutely the highlight of our time in Hawaii! If you are on the fence about doing a boat tour, then stop looking now and book with Na Pali Experience. Captain Jon was fantastic, knowledgeable and a wonderful guide throughout the tour. We did the afternoon tour and lucked into amazing weather that allowed us to visit all the sea caves. Snorkeling with sea turtles, incredible views, and coming back with the sunset light hitting the mountains... nothing comes close! We would highly recommend this tour to anyone!"
"My Na Pali Pirates experience was amazing! Fun, fast raft rides on exciting water? Check! Epic views of the Na Pali coast? Check! Sea caves? Check! Snorkeling with sea turtles? Check! But most importantly, Jake and Jacob were incredible incredible guides! Fun and knowledgeable with the perfect amount of dad jokes and great tunes! This is seriously a MUST DO, and I will continue to do this raft tour any time I am back in Kauai! Stop looking at other boat tours of the Na Pali coast and book this one! It's fun and exciting and you will be supporting a LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS! Thank you to "The Jakes" for an epic time!
"The 35’ Deluxe Catamaran “Cadillac of the Caves” was AMAZING! Do not miss this when you’re in Kauai. Brian and Capt. Nate were fun, kind, knowledgeable, patient…all the things. They personally made sure every single person was comfortable and having fun the whole time. They shared tons of knowledge about Kauai and the Napali coast, played music, made us laugh, and were obviously capable and at ease on the ocean. The deluxe catamaran was big enough to be comfortable, but small enough to fit in caves and be an exciting ride. My husband and 7 year old sat in bench seats in the middle of the boat, while my 10 year old and I rode up front for a more exciting ride. We stopped to snorkel and they provided good equipment. They also put out snacks and drinks while we were in the water. They made sure everyone had enough time in the water and didn’t feel rushed back. Our family all took Dramamine the night before and again about an hour before we got on the boat, and we all felt fine the whole time. Do take similar precautions if you’re at all worried about sea sickness. I cannot recommend this company and experience highly enough. It was one of my favorite days ever! It was the experience of a lifetime to take in the gorgeous scenery in such a fun and exciting way. The experience and memories are worth the price. Book it!
"A beautiful small boat tour for 6 cruising the Na Pali coast. The boat is small enough to go into the caves. JD was a great captain! He was very friendly, knowledgeable and experienced which was very reassuring when it came to the big waves since it was a very windy day."

Check out what our adventurers say about us! ★★★★★
Captain Brandon and Michaela are so fun, genuine and friendly! They assured we had a fast-paced, fun-filled and informative adventure…thank you! And Cpt. Brandon’s play list was perfect for the ride! Great music to match a great ride. Sadly, we could not enter and explore the cave (due to high surf), but we still enjoyed a great day with them. I’d recommend this tour and Na Pali Riders 100%!
Amazing day!!! High seas closed part of Nā Pali coast at the last minute but these guys got up early and scouted out an alternate and probably even more amazing trip for us. I cannot say it strongly enough that they saved our day and we’ll never forget the adventure. Their good nature with us and all of our kids made us all instantly comfortable. We felt like old friends getting together the see a once in a lifetime event. Giant glassy waves, dolphins, a seal and a turtle, I’d give them 20 stars out of five if I could.
Our best excursion yet! Capt. Brandon and Sawyer did a wonderful job keeping us safe and entertained. It was reassuring to know Brandon was In the coast guard and Sawyer constantly checking in on every person on the boat! Very informative history of the Napali coast as well. Can’t say enough about this company, worth every penny!
Captain Brandon and macayla were awesome!! Super knowledgeable and just a pleasure to be around. Macayla goes out of her way to check in frequently with every passenger! Will be recommending to everyone I know
Looking for a Great & Exciting time? This trip was awesome super friendly staff! Made the trip very fun. Fresh fruit, chips, water, soda, gatorade was all offered made for a great snack after our swim. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting the island.

The captain and crew will shed interesting insights into the lives of ancient Hawaiians who called this mythical place home and prepared for battle in its valleys.
Some snacks, including Kauai Kookies, will be provided to help you keep your energy levels up and make the most of the adventure, which also entails watching marine wildlife.
14. Kauai: Full-Day Waimea Canyon & Wailua River Tour
Mark Twain referred to the striking Waimea Canyon as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” and you’ll have the opportunity to see why.
This is a tour that does a good job of unlocking the splendor of this unique place, combining the grandeur of the land with the fabulous beauty of the waters.
There will be a visit to the Waimea Canyon State Park where the canyon itself sits.
As you make your way there, you will spot the island of Niihau, Nawiliwili Harbor, Queen Victoria’s profile and the Poipu Resorts.
You will also get to marvel at the Fern Grotto, a natural fern-covered lava rock cave, and see Opaeka’a Falls, a site that has served as a filming location for many movies.
This tour is chockfull of attractions, and of course, is not complete with a cruise on the Wailua River.
15. Kauai: Full-Day Tour with Fern Grotto River Cruise
This is one of the most complete tours of Kauai, combining a ground tour with a river cruise and airplane trip, although the latter is optional.
The seven-hour experience will take you to more attractions than you can keep track of, from beaches and mountains to ancient Hawaiian sites and waterfalls.
One of the notable excursions includes a visit to popular North Shore destinations, including Kilauea Wildlife Refuge and Bird Sanctuary and the Kilauea Lighthouse.
Other beautiful sights include Anini Beach, Hanalei Bay, Hanalei taro fields, Sleeping Giant and more.
Enjoy a boat cruise along the Wailua River aboard a spacious open-air riverboat, which smacks of that trademark laidback tropical vibe synonymous with Hawaii.

Why Choose Us?
Our Na Pali Coast tour begins on the north shore, for a much shorter ride , going in multiple sea caves and under waterfalls .
The North Shore coastline from Anini to the Na Pali coast is far more dramatic than from Port Allan or Kikiaola harbor.
The Sea Breeze power catamaran is large enough to provide a smooth ride , and small enough to enter the sea caves .
Our seasoned captains provide safe tours while navigating to the most interesting destinations .
Captain Bob Kutkowski has had many years of traveling along the Northwest waters of Kauai so he’s extremely proud of helping to design and build the Sea Breeze, a 34 ft. Power Catamaran. It offers a bathroom, plenty of seating, shaded areas, room to walk around and passengers can ride on the bow for an amazing view. This boat takes a maximum of 18 passengers along the Na Pali Coast so you can view the stupendous cliffs close-up.
The designer of his boat is award winning designer Kurt Hughes , who brought Bob’s dream of a powerful boat into a vessel that can withstand the strong trade winds and make the passengers feel safe while traveling up and down the spectacular Na Pali Coast.
Captain Bob and his wife Janet continue to try to improve the tour and manage the cost of the tour by keeping the tour family owned and operated although we have 3 Captains who have been helping us all along, Captain Chris , Captain Ryan and Captain Pepe who are joined by a trained crew to insure our passengers safety.

One of the most popular sights on Kauai is the stunning Napali Coast. Located on the north west side of Kauai, the 17 miles of coastline is absolutely spectacular. But it’s inaccessible by car, so if you’re hoping to see it (which you definitely should) you’ll need to go by boat, helicopter/plane, or by foot.
There are a lot of different tours to choose from. We’ve listed our top five picks below to help you find the best option for your trip. Read on to learn more about the best Napali Coast boat tours and book your trip.
Learn more about our favorite Napali Coast Boat Tours here! – Are you staying near the North Shore? Check out the tours that leave from Hanalei Bay . – Napali Coast snorkel and sailing tour with a water slide! – Visit the forbidden island of Ni’ihau , snorkel in a crater, and see the Napali Coast. – Our favorite 4.5-hour su nset dinner cruise of the Napali Coast . – Small group, power raft tour of the Napali with snorkeling. – Hawaiian-owned catamaran tour, choose from 4 types of catamarans .
Napali Coast Boat Tour FAQs
The ride to the Napali Coast can be rough. We have yet to go on a tour where someone doesn’t get seasick. So if you are prone to seasickness (or even if you’re not!) you might want to consider taking seasickness medication to help.
What are the different boat options for the Napali Coast boat tours?
Choosing the right type of boat for your adventure is important. The two main options are rafts (including Zodiac rafts) and catamarans (both power and sailing).
Rafts are easily maneuverable and fast, but you’re in for a less leisurely ride. Think of it as an adventure! An adventure where you’ll likely get wet and there’s a chance there won’t be shade. This is something Jordan and I would do but we wouldn’t bring our five-year-old son or our parents on a trip like this.
A catamaran is a more comfortable ride but you do miss some of the pep you get with a raft. It’s not quite as easy to zip in and out of sea caves (conditions permitting). But you’ll have shade and you likely won’t get wet if you don’t want to.
Where do Napali Coast Boat Tours depart from?
There are three main locations that you’ll find as departure points for Napali Coast Boat Tours:
Port Allen: Located just 15-20 minutes from Poipu on the south shore of Kauai, this is the most popular departure point for Napali Coast tours. Click for directions to Port Allen .
Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor: 30 minutes from Poipu, this is the closest departure point to the Napali Coast from the south side. Click for directions to Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor .
Hanalei Bay: On the north shore there are a handful of tour operators that leave from Hanalei Bay. This is the closest point of departure to the Napali Coast but the seas do get rough. Tours depart here March/April through October as the winter brings in large swells.
Where should you stay on Kauai? That’s a tough decision.
What’s the best time to visit the Napali coast?
You can visit the Napali Coast any time of year, but if you’re aiming for the calmest seas, your best bet is in the summer. During the winter months (October through March) waves can get large and the surf can get rough. The trip to and from the Napali Coast is rarely super smooth, but it’s usually better in the summer than in the winter.
That said, we’ve done the trip in mid-November and had an absolute blast.
Not sure when to plan your trip? We have you covered with our best time to visit Kauai article .
What’s included on a Napali Coast Boat tour?
There are two ways to see the Napali Coast: on a snorkeling tour or a sightseeing tour. We include options for both below.
On snorkeling tours, you can expect a meal (or two!), drinks (water, juice, soda, and occasionally alcoholic beverages), as well as snorkeling gear and a knowledgeable guide.
On dinner cruises, drinks and food are included as well as a knowledgeable guide.
Is a trip to the Napali Coast worth it?
If you’re coming to Kauai, I think a trip to see the stunning Napali coast is worth it. The stunning mountains and coastline are not accessible by car, so seeing it by boat, helicopter, plane, or hiking is the only way to experience it. The beauty is extraordinary and by taking a boat you also get to enjoy the wildlife that you meet along the way (often dolphins).
It’s one of our favorite things to do on Kauai ! If you have young kids who can’t go on a Napali Coast boat tour, check out our 24 Things to Do on Kauai with Kids .
A Napali Coast boat tour can be a rough ride for those with children or prone to seasickness. We recommend taking motion sickness medicine the night before your boat tour.
If seasickness or the chance of rough seas (winter months) doesn’t sound good to you, consider these other ways to see the Napali Coast of Kauai or go snorkeling on Kauai.
- Napali Coast Helicopter or Airplane Tour (best safety record on the island)
- Napali Coast Hiking Tours
- Snorkeling with Sea Turtles from South Shore (Poipu)
The 5 Best Napali Coast Boat Tours
There are a lot of excellent tours on the island, but we’ve narrowed it down to share with you what we think are the best Napali Coast boat tours around.
Napali Coast Tours from Hanalei Town (North Shore)
If you’re staying on the north shore in the summer, you are close to the Napali coast! So close in fact, that it’s only a 15-minute ride from Hanalei to the start of the Napali coast. But we warned — a trip from Hanalei is an adventure.
The tours run from March through October only (the north shore experiences huge surf in the winter). The catamaran holds 18 passengers and is available for both a morning and afternoon snorkeling tour (4 hours) as well as a 2-hour sightseeing tour (no snorkeling included).
There is no bathroom aboard the boat, so plan accordingly!

The rest of the best Napali Coast boat tours depart from Port Allen and Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor.
Custom-Built Boats for the Napali Coast
Explore the Napali Coast on Kauai-built boats — both a sailing catamaran and a power catamaran that take a max of 41 and 49 passengers, respectively. The owner Kevin is a boat builder. He designs and builds all the boats for Holo Holo Charters.
We’ve gone out with Holo Holo several times and we’ve always enjoyed our trip! We have a video at the end of the article of one of our experiences.
Holo Holo Charters offers four different tour options that all leave from Port Allen:
- Ni’ihau and Napali Super Tour: 7 hours
- Na Pali Snorkel Sail: 7 hours
- Na Pali Sunset Dinner Sail: 4.5 hours
- Na Pali Sunset Dinner Tour: 3.5 hours
We’ve done both the Ni’ihau and Napali Super Tour and the Napali Snorkel Sail and both were excellent.
Boats are shaded in the cabin area and tours are available to children ages 5 and over.
Snorkeling tours include snorkel gear, breakfast, and lunch, as well as beverages. Sunset cruises include dinner and drinks.
Napali Coast Sailing Tour
Blue Ocean Adventure Tours (Napali Explorer) offers twice-daily power catamaran tours. On each catamaran, you’ll have a max of 40 passengers. The tours leave from the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor, so it’s the closest spot on the west side of the island to the Napali Coast.
The morning and afternoon tours offer 45 minutes of snorkeling and snorkeling gear is included. On the 4.5-hour tour, you’ll also have a Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with water, juice, and soda.
And for the kids (and really adults too), there is an inflatable water slide on the boat.

Napali Coast Adventure on a Power Raft (small group tour)
Head out to the Napali coast on a zodiac with Kauai Z Tours. This tour includes snorkeling, but like most of the tours offered, the emphasis is on the scenery and less on the time in the water.
Kauai Z Tours operates their tours on a 25’ rigid hull zodiac boat, which is coast guard approved for a maximum of 14 passengers. Zodiacs or rafts are known for their speed and maneuverability, so this is more of an adventurous ride. There is no shade or covering on the boat, so hats, sun-protective clothing, and reef-safe sunscreen are a must.
During this five-hour tour, you’ll get to cruise up the west side of the island to the Napali coast in a zodiac raft that seats 14. Included in your tour is a dry bag, snorkeling gear, juice and water, as well as a deli-style lunch.
The tour departs from Kekaha (the Kikiaola small boat harbor), which is approximately a 32-minute drive from Poipu. This is approximately 17 minutes up the road from Port Allen (closer to the Napali Coast), where some other tours leave from.
Learn more about the Napali Coast Zodiac rafting tour.
Kauai Z Tours doesn’t just specialize in Napali coast tours — you can book south shore snorkeling tours as well as whale-watching tours .
Hawaiian-Owned Napali Coast Boat Tours
Makana Charters is a native Hawaiian-owned business with ancient roots on the island. They have 15 years of experience running tours on the Napali coast.
Makana Charters offers the same Napali coast tour but on four different catamarans.
Learn more about Makana’s tour and pick the catamaran that’s right for you.
All tours depart from the Kikiaola small boat harbor, approximately 32 minutes from Poipu, a close departure point for the Napali Coast. That means more time is spent seeing the coast and snorkeling, and less time is spent getting there.
Included in the tour is the use of snorkeling gear, juice and water, as well as a deli-style lunch and snacks.
They can accommodate children 3 and up and pregnant women (weather-dependent and with a doctor’s note). They offer morning and afternoon tours as well as private tours.

Niihau island & napali coast boat tour.
Treat yourself and your loved ones to the most ambitious and rewarding boat tour offered on Kauai—the Niihau & Napali Coast Super Tour. First, explore the extraordinary Napali Coast, and then cross the 17-mile Kaulakahi Channel to tour Lehua Crater and the “Forbidden Island” of Niihau. See and snorkel with ocean wildlife that’s only observed in these deep, remote waters.
The morning begins with a continental-style breakfast (including coffee, juices, pastries, scrambled eggs, seasonal tropical fruits, etc.) and a sightseeing trip up the world-famous Napali Coast. With her 4,000 foot cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and secluded, pristine beaches, experiencing Napali is an absolute must-do on any Kauai vacation, and that’s why there are so many different Napali Coast boat tours to choose from. But why limit your adventure to Napali when you can go offshore and see even more?
The biggest advantage of crossing the Kaulakahi Channel and visiting Lehua Crater and Niihau Island is wildlife, wildlife, wildlife. Spinner dolphins, turtles, and (seasonally) humpback whales abound on Kauai’s coastal waters but other species such as manta rays, striped dolphins, pilot whales, and pelagic seabirds prefer more remote conditions.
Encompassing more than 580,000 square miles, the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument is one of the world’s largest protected areas and includes ten islands and atolls of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Naturally, the closer we get to these protected waters, the more likely we are to see unique species that are rarely observed closer to Kauai.
If snorkeling is great off of Kauai, it’s fabulous off of Niihau! With just a tiny fraction of the human activity and very little rainfall (and thus runoff to cloud the water), the snorkeling locations around Niihau Island and Lehua Crater are simply superior to those around Kauai.
Once your captain has chosen the best snorkeling spot for the day’s specific conditions and Holoholo is tied securely to the mooring, our crew members will set you up with properly fitting masks, snorkels, fins and if you’d like, flotation devices. They’ll give a brief talk going over basic snorkeling practices and safety precautions and then get in the water with you (on paddleboards) to be your lifeguards and help you with anything you might need to have the most comfortable and amazing snorkeling experience possible.
Once everyone’s all snorkeled out and safely back on board, it’s lunchtime– which includes a delicious spread made fresh from our caterers. And since nobody is going back in the water, your crew will also begin offering beer, wine, and seltzers to our guests of age. Hey, it’s 5:00 somewhere, and the bar will remain open for the duration of our trip back to Port Allen.
In 1997, Holo Holo Charters became the first company to offer Niihau boat tours. We’ve been doing it longer than any other company and to this day, we do it better than any other company. The difference is the boat. Holoholo was built here on Kauai, with power and design features specific to the unique waters of the Kaulakahi Channel. Holoholo is the vessel you can trust for safety and comfort on this ambitious 7-hour, 90-mile journey up the Napali Coast, around Lehua Crater, out to Niihau Island and back.

We pride ourselves on creating fun and memorable ocean adventures for our guests. Your safety is our top priority; therefore, all tour routes, destinations, and snorkeling activities are dependent on ocean and weather conditions. If you are joining us during our winter season November – March, tours can be more often impacted by weather. Conditions around Kauai can change quickly, so our expert captains are constantly analyzing and may wait until check-in time to determine the best route for the day. If that occurs you will have the opportunity to go on the altered tour, reschedule to another day (availability permitting), or cancel your tour at no charge if it is weather-related. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 808-335-0815 so we can help create the best experience for you and your family!
We took the super tour to Niihau and along the Napali coast with our kids, youngest 8 yrs old. It was beautiful and amazing snorkeling, pristine water, got to see the exquisite Napali coast, plus a bunch of cool marine life. Captain Drew and crew of Jess, David, and Ahren took fabulous care of us, were quick, helpful, and attentive. I especially liked Drew’s music picks. We all really enjoyed the super fun day!!
This was our second time doing this tour and we loved it just as much this time as the first. This time around we took our 16 year old son and he LOVED it! The Captain and Crew were fantastic. They were all so personable and went out of their way to make sure everyone on the boat was taken care of and having fun. They took the time to talk to my son and get to know him on a personal level making the trip even more memorable. We had lots of laughs, saw amazing scenery, ocean life and ate delicious local food. I would recommend this to anyone!
We took the sunset boat tour. Everything was perfect heading out to see the winds were rough and the captain handled it perfect. The crew was phenomenal and fun!!!! They made everyone feel like we were all one big family, it was quite enjoyable. The captain was very educating on history of the island, respectful and got us up close and personal safely. On the way back to shore my daughter didn't handle the rough seas so well and the crew took such care of her it was reassuring. I highly recommend this by all means. It was a truly and extraordinary experience!!!!!

10 Best Boat Tours In Kauai (2024)
Posted on Last updated: December 27, 2023
Home » Activities » 10 Best Boat Tours In Kauai (2024)
Consider booking a boat tour in Kauai for a truly unforgettable experience on your vacation. Whether you’re out for sightseeing or the action and adventure on the water, catch views of the Garden Isle from a different perspective you won’t get on land.
Check out the many sea caves, rock formations, and picturesque mountainous coastlines. Get on the water around sunset and gaze upon one of the most spectacular sights in the world as the sun meanders over the horizon of Kauai’s Na Pali Coast.
Here are the best boat tours available for your trip to Kauai in no particular order.
1. Na Pali Sunset Sailing Tour
The Na Pali Coast is one of the most prominent features of Kauai, and this 3.5-hour tour takes you there at sunset. Hop aboard a power catamaran and sail along the 17-mile stretch of postcard-worthy coastline, admiring the hidden caves and sea arches. They’ve got you covered with any drinks you may need.
Although this catamaran tour doesn’t include any time in the water, you can still spot sea life around the coast. Depending on the season, you can see some of the local dolphins, humpback whales, and sea turtles. We’ve done it before, and seeing these magical creatures swimming in their natural habitat is a one of a kind experience.
The day culminates in a sunset that will borderline on magical as the sun slowly descends to the west, bathing the entire coastline in mesmerizing light. Toast this unbelievable beauty with that special someone before you head back to Port Allen and get started on the evening. However, we think it’s also a suitable activity to do with kids.
2. Na Pali Half-Day Snorkeling Cruise
Rise and shine, then make your way to the Port Allen Marina Center and hop on the Lucky Lady, a luxurious catamaran, for a half day of snorkeling.
An experienced Coast Guard Licensed captain with Kauai Sea Tours serves as your guide of the Na Pali coast as you sail from point to point for over 5 hours. Adventurers will have several opportunities to jump in and explore the water as well as see dolphins.
Travelers brand new to snorkeling or completely comfortable with it get access to expert instruction either way. While aboard the Lucky Lady, they treat you to a lunch of make-your-own sandwiches, chips, pasta salad, and cookies.
Wash all that down with complimentary sodas, water, and island-style drinks. If you’re feeling like kicking back with a cold one, try a beer, wine, or Mai Tais.
3. Holo Holo Boat Tours
Holo Holo Boat Tours has been taking guests on spectacular half and full-day boat tours of the Na Pali Coast and the island of Niihau since 1997. This eco-friendly tour company hails from Ele’ele and brings decades of experience to each and every guest aboard their boats. We got some amazing landscape views when we tried their tour a couple years back.
Take a ride over to a well-kept secret in Hawaii, the island of Niihau, and check out the untouched natural beauty of the Pacific. On this tour, you get to see Lehua Crater, an uninhabited, crescent-shaped island home to a bird sanctuary.
Between Niihau and Lehua, you can snorkel in transparent waters and swim alongside the local sea life, including fish, monk seals, and manta rays. You really can’t beat the Super Tour, which provides over 7 hours of time spent on the water starting at only $310 per person. You can also choose shorter tours from 3.5 hours and in between.
It’s certainly one of the highlights of any traveler’s Kauai vacation.
4. Na Pali Pirates
Na Pali Pirates offers Kauai boat tours on three different types of vessels depending on the sort of adventure you’re looking for. For the thrill seekers and pirates at heart, take a power raft tour, speeding through sea caves and waterfalls. It can get quite dark when you’re inside a sea cave as shown below but it’s a surreal experience:
If you want to avoid a bumpy ride and prefer a smooth ride full of comforts, tour on a 35-foot power catamaran which allows for up to 18 passengers to enjoy. There is also a 6-person power catamaran excursion that gives a feeling of exclusivity.
Those who travel to Kauai during the whale-watching season between mid-December and the end of March can charter a whale-watching expedition. This tour guarantees that you will see humpback whales during their annual migration when they swim in the waters of Kauai.
Prices with Na Pali Pirates start at only $189 per person, and if you’re looking to take a large group, you can even book an entire vessel for a large discount.
5. Captain Andy’s
Captain Andy’s has been around since 1980 with their famous tours of the Na Pali Coast. Choose from a high-speed rafting adventure, sailing on a star-class catamaran, or split the difference and enjoy the classic excursion aboard a 55-foot Gold Coast yacht.
You can read more about them with our recent Capt Andy’s tour review and the dolphins that we’re seen jumping out of the water along the way (see below).
Their offerings range from just a couple hours with activities like whale watching or watching the sunset all the way up to an entire day on the water, including lunch on board. For shorter trips, there are snacks and complimentary beverages included for convenience.
If you’d like the chance to see the migrating humpback whales during the winter months, Captain Andy’s has one of the best deals in the business at only $79 per person for a 2-hour raft ride to witness these gentle giants.
Captain Andy’s trips are competitively priced, starting at only $189 per person for a raft tour. An entire day of adventure begins at only $215, with kid’s seats clocking in at only $195.
6. South Side Snorkel Adventure with Zodiac Tours
While most expeditions take place around the north side of Kauai, this snorkel tour by Kauai Zodiac Tourz puts you on the south side away from all the crowds, but right in the middle of a different kind of adventure.
Over the course of three hours, you pass by the famed Spouting Horn blowhole on your way to at least two prime snorkeling spots. Spouting Horn is known for blowing water in the air sometimes up to 50 feet.
It’s beginner and kid-friendly, and you can enjoy the calm waters off the south shore near Koloa. Here visitors can find loads of colorful fish and should even be able to spot some of the local green sea turtles. Poipu Beach in Koloa is one of our favorite beaches , and it’s filled with sea turtles and seals, so it’s not surprising that this side of Kauai has an abundance of them.
The tour keeps groups small with less than 14 total on every trip, providing an intimate excursion at an affordable price. Snacks and beverages come as part of the deal, as well as the use of snorkeling equipment.
7. Makana Charters
Makana Charters has won loads of awards, and it’s clear to see why with their exceptional fleet of vessels for every style of traveler. The boats at Makana Charters can comfortably hold anywhere between 12 to 36 passengers with 360-degree views.
All tours offer the same duration of around 5 hours starting at $169 per person. For a slight bump in price, you can set sail on one of the larger, more comfortable ships. This is a great option for folks looking for a smoother ride.
Every boat ride includes complimentary beverages, snacks, and lunch, as well as the use of gear and guaranteed wildlife viewing. The boats depart from the Waimea area on the southwest side of Kauai and hug the western shore to provide stunning sightseeing and photography opportunities.
8. NaPaliCoastTours.com
Travelers near the Hanalei Bay area can check out Na Pali Coast Tours, which launch directly from this famous spot on Kauai. You’re just a short ride to the world-renowned area.
Miles of emerald green mountains, ancient sea caves, waterfalls, and chances to see the iconic rainbows of Hawaii await. Along the way, there is a lot of local wildlife to see, including Hawaiian spinner dolphins, monk seals, green sea turtles, and whales. We suggest you have a good camera ready during the first leg of the tour.
You can choose from a short, 2-hour sightseeing tour for $199 per person or a 4-hour snorkeling journey for just $289 per person. The 2-hour tour is an entertaining way to fill a morning or an afternoon and get sights along one of the most stunning places of Hawaii.
9. Blue Dolphin Charters
Blue Dolphin Charters offers everything from 2-hour whale-watching excursions to 5-hour snorkeling journeys along the south coast. They even have a full-day 7-hour adventure that takes you to explore the Forbidden Island of Niihau, situated just southwest of the island.
As with many of the entries, Blue Dolphin Charters includes several offerings that take you to points all along the Na Pali Coast aboard one of their luxurious power catamarans. The aloha spirit will be all around you as you sail through crystal clear blue waters and cool ocean breezes.
The sunset cruises offer a terrific value at only $115 per person, but we also recommend you consider the longer snorkel experience. You get 7 hours packed full of stunning natural backdrops, snorkeling in friendly waters, and the chance to see the untouched natural beauty of Niihau.
Not many people who visit Hawaii can say that they’ve seen Niihau, and the only way to see it is through a guided tour. The company lives up to its name by guaranteeing you to see dolphins on the trip, or you can book again at no charge.
10. Blue Ocean Adventure
Blue Ocean Adventure Tours embark from the southwest near Waimea and encompass the entirety of the famed coastline. Choose from a high-speed ride aboard a Zodiac raft or the smooth sailing of a 48-foot catamaran.
One of the unique features of Blue Ocean is that they stop at one of the Na Pali Coast beaches, Nualolo Kai Beach. As a part of this expedition, you can hike along the shore and visit an ancient fishing village.
There will be breathtaking views, dark sea caves, and ample wildlife. Visitors can spend between 4.5 to 6 hours, depending on your preferences and prices range from $175 per person to $235 per person.

Napali Sunset Dinner Tour - 3.5hr
Napali coast sunset dinner boat tour.
If you’re on a mission to witness the awesomeness of the Napali Coast, and you want to be on a comfortable boat, enjoying quality food and beverages while you do so, come aboard our spacious & sporty catamaran Holoholo for the Napali Sunset Cruise. Whether you’ve been a dozen times, or this is your first, the Sunset Cruise is an excellent way to level-up your evening plans and turn dinner, drinks, and sunset into a beautiful adventure!
We’ll be riding in comfort and style on Holoholo , our company’s namesake vessel that was designed and built here on Kauai, by our company’s founder and crew. She’s a boss boat– stable, powerful, and meticulously maintained for efficiency, safety, and comfort. Holoholo has a low center of gravity, so there’s less rocking and rolling than on more top-heavy, double decker tour boats– a feature our guests appreciate!
They say it’s the journey and not the destination, but Napali might be the exception to the rule—Kauai’s northwest coast is truly something to behold. We always find ourselves saying, “It never gets old,” because the Napali Coast has a way of humbling us with her magnificence, every single day. It’s the rainbows and the dolphins and the way the Cathedrals break through low-lying clouds. It’s the waterfalls, and the birds flying through Honopu Arch. Even when conditions aren’t “perfect”, Napali always seems to have a way of showing the love and making the trip special.
Indeed, in this case, it’s hard to beat the destination. That said, we’ll do our best to make the journey unforgettable too!
When it comes to service, we go for food and beverage menus that are refreshing, Hawaii-inspired, delicious, satisfying, and easy-to-eat. We’ve got juices, sodas, domestic & Hawaii craft beers, hard seltzers, red & white wine, sparkling wine, and our signature Koloa Rum Mai Tai. We serve meats & cheeses, crackers, and fresh veggies with dips to start, and for the main course—fresh pineapple, garden salad, somen noodle salad, rice, teriyaki chicken, and roasted veggies with tofu. Our balanced, colorful meals are prepared every day by our local caterers, using whole ingredients. We use reusable linens and service ware, and Holo Holo Charters is the only Kauai tour boat company to be certified an Ocean Friendly Restaurant by the Surfrider Foundation.
Chances are we’ll see some ocean wildlife while we’re out there; Hawaiian spinner dolphins, flying fish, green sea turtles, and pelagic sea birds are commonly seen on our Kauai sunset tours, year-round! And from December through April– it’s whale season, when thousands of North Pacific Humpback Whales migrate over 3,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii, to mate and calve. As part of their mating rituals, curiosity, and propensity to “show off” to humans, we’re often treated to dramatic breaches, tail slapping, and other fascinating behaviors, such as spy hopping.
On the way to and from the majestic Napali Coast, we’ll pass the towns of Waimea and Kekaha, the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands Beach, and Hawaii’s longest beach– Polihale Beach. Your captain will provide narration– history, interesting facts, information, and legends about the island—and our crew members will be at your service at all times, answering questions, taking pictures, refilling drinks, bringing you a plate, walking you to the bathroom, etc.
We have our Kauai Coffee Coconut Caramel Crunch Brownies for dessert and offer a sparkling wine toast at sunset—we’re fully treating ourselves today!
Bring layers on this tour—you might want to soak up some sun at the start, but it will be getting dark by the time we return to the dock in Port Allen. As a rule of thumb, bring a jacket with you on all of your Kauai activities and adventures. The weather here is notoriously variable!
The Napali Sunset Cruise is a terrific choice for both Kauai locals and visitors that want to elevate their happy hour/dinner/sunset plans by getting out on a nice boat and enjoying an evening in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. With dinner, dessert, and drinks included, the Napali Sunset Cruise offers a lot of value and will leave you smiling and satisfied.
If you have any questions at all about the Napali Sunset Cruise or any of our Kauai and Niihau sailing and snorkeling tours, please call our reservations desk at 808-335-0815. We’re happy to help you select the most suitable Kauai boat tour for everyone in your group.

See Turtles on our Top-Rated Kauai Snorkeling Tours
We got up close and personal - but not too close - to about 5 green sea turtles. The two spots we visited were great, the 1st was a hangout for turtles and the 2nd a reef closer to shore schooling with fish... We really loved this trip and the great sea life we saw, and enjoyed Davey and Dave as our guides.
So nice to get up close and personal...none of this 50 people to a boat business. Very knowledgeable staff. JC and Jon were amazing! Found the whales right away and shared some very interesting facts on the trip. Highly recommend!
We saw a ton of turtles & even a small shark. They went out of their way to make sure the experience was amazing & it was! Would definitely recommend booking thru Zodiac! The picnic lunch at the harbor was a nice ending to a wonderful morning!
First time going on a rafted boat tour. I enjoyed the fantastic captain (JC and her crew). They made the trip so much fun. I enjoyed the opportunity to snorkel in some amazing places that I would never had known about. I highly recommend booking your next trip with Z tours.
My 8yr old and I absolutely loved this experience! The crew is so friendly and fun to be around as well as knowledgeable of the area and helpful going out of their way to ensure each guest has what they need. We saw so many sea turtles and beautiful fish! This was our best adventure of the vacation I would go again over and over!

Is a Helicopter Ride in Kauai Worth It? Your Top Questions Answered
A re you thinking about booking a kauai helicopter tour but still have a lot of questions keep scrolling to find out whether or not it’s worth booking a helicopter ride in kauai..
Guest post by Dani of Diapers in Paradise
If you have ever considered splurging on a helicopter tour, you are not going to find a better place in the world to do it than Kauai .
Kauai is known for the lush, verdant jungle that covers most of the island, but it is largely inaccessible to vehicles.
In fact, some of the most iconic landmarks of the Garden Island are only visible from the water… or the air.
There are many helicopter tour companies set up on the island, ready to show you around the side of Kauai that you will not be able to experience any other way.
If you are wondering whether a Kauai helicopter tour is a worthwhile part of your trip, read on to learn more and to hear about my experience with it.

What is it like to take a helicopter tour of Kauai?
Do you remember that iconic moment in the original Jurassic Park movie when they are approaching the island in a helicopter, and the dramatic theme music plays as they fly along the prehistoric-looking coast?
That’s exactly what it feels like during helicopter tours of Kauai.
Because that is exactly what you are doing!
That scene from Jurassic Park was actually filmed on the approach to the Na Pali coast, on Kauai’s North Shore, which is one of the two main reasons to take Kauai helicopter tours.
Na Pali is only viewable by boat or by Kauai helicopter rides, and if you want the most epic view of the landscape, a helicopter is the way to go.
The other reason to take a helicopter tour? Waimea Canyon. The “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.”
It is possible to see parts of Waimea Canyon by a combination of driving and hiking, but you will only get a hint of the wonder of this ten-mile-long canyon.
But flying through the canyon, past countless waterfalls, and seeing the jungle sprawled out below you – that is how you truly come to appreciate the sheer size and grandeur of Waimea Canyon.
Taking a tour of Kauai by air is an experience that you will not forget.
What is the process for taking a Kauai helicopter tour?
First, you will want to book it ahead of time for your Kauai vacation.
Yes, there are plenty of tour operators that you can find around the cruise ship terminal in Lihue that are happy to take same-day bookings.
But you will really want to do your research ahead of time and choose a reputable operator.
We went with Mauna Loa Helicopter Tours for their vast experience and impeccable safety record and because they are one of the very best helicopter tours for private tours.
When you arrive, you’ll go through a safety briefing, and then you’ll head out to meet your pilot at the airfield.
They will get you all buckled up, go over any last-minute safety reminders, and then you’re off! The vertical take-off is thrilling and nerve-wracking, but within minutes you are out over the jungles of the island.
Most Mauna Loa helicopter tours are in the 45-60 minute range, although you can find longer ones.
While some of the sites that they visit may vary, you can bet that every tour is going to show you Waimea Canyon, the rugged Na Pali Coast, and Manawaiopuna Falls .
There are even tours available that stop midway through for a picnic and photo op!
What are the types of Kauai helicopter tours available?
When you are looking to book a helicopter tour, you will have a few options. You’ll first need to choose if you want to share the helicopter with other people or book a private tour.
Shared tours usually have 6 passengers. And while this doesn’t seem like much, it is possible that you will have your view impaired by another passenger.
If you are hoping to get good photographs of this for your Kauai vacation, this is particularly worrisome.
Some of the best Kauai helicopter tours are better than others for visibility, so read about the particular helicopter for any flight you are considering booking.
You also might not get seated next to your travel partner. They balance the helicopter for weight, so you will not have any say in where you sit.
The next thing you’ll need to choose is whether or not you want doors on your helicopter.
Opting for a Kauai doors-off helicopter tour gives you the advantage of having a better view and not getting any glare on your photos. It’s windier and sometimes a bit wet!
But Kauai doors off helicopter tours give you an unparalleled view of the scenery and make you feel much closer to the landscape.
If having the doors off seems inherently scarier, remember – it is not the doors that are keeping you safe. It is your seat harness and the skills of your pilot.
It will be imperative that you do not have any loose items on you when you fly. Cameras will need to be strapped to your body.
We opted for the private, doors-off tour.
While this was a splurge for us, we figured it was probably the only time we would ever do a helicopter tour, and we wanted to do it the best way we could.
We have not regretted this decision once! The best Kauai helicopter tours are pricey either way. May as well make the most of it on this stunning Hawaiian island!
Can you bring kids on a Kauai helicopter tour?
Yes, although the age requirements will vary by the tour operator.
Some operators have a minimum age of around 7, while others will allow children of any age, including lap infants (under 2), for free. Lap infants will not have a seat belt, however.
If you are traveling with young children, you will really want to think about if they will be able to handle sitting buckled into an adult-sized harness for an hour, especially considering they might not even be able to see past other passengers.
You also might not get seated next to your child, depending on the weight distribution, although most operators will try to seat families together when possible.
When we visited, we were traveling with a baby and a toddler. We ended up using a local babysitter agency and turned it into a wonderfully memorable half-day date.
Are Kauai helicopter tours safe?
This is undoubtedly a question that has crossed your mind if you are considering helicopter rides in Kauai.
And given a few high-profile helicopter crashes in the last few years – including one on Kauai – it is only natural to be nervous.
Of course, there is always risk in something like a helicopter flight. They are statistically more dangerous than a commercial airplane flight, although they are less dangerous than flying in a private plane.
Tour-operated helicopters are significantly safer than private helicopters, as well.
Helicopter flight has become much less risky over the past few decades, but there are occasional incidents.
Of the Hawaiian islands, Kauai has seen the highest number of helicopter crashes, although they are still incredibly rare.
Ensure that you choose a reputable tour operator that adheres to the highest level of safety standards. Expect that if there is adverse weather, your tour will be canceled.
For this reason, it is a good idea to book your helicopter flight early in your trip so that you can reschedule if needed!
We never felt unsafe during our helicopter tour. The flight was smooth, and we were impressed with our pilot’s level of experience.
Is a Kauai helicopter tour worth the money?
Without a doubt, yes!
The breathtaking scenery of the NaPali Coast and Waimea Canyon are best viewed from the air, especially a bird’s eye view!
There is no better way to experience the natural wonder of the Garden Isle than by flying above the jungle in a Kauai island helicopter.
It is a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience that you will treasure, along with incredible photos, especially if you choose a doors-off tour.
If you are coming to Kauai, I highly recommend taking a few hours out to see the beauty that this island has to offer!
