The Grand Moon Palace Cancun full resort review and room tour.

There is just something about arriving at a resort and being welcomed with cold towels, refreshing drinks, and a beautiful lobby to enjoy.

Teen girl being welcomed after journey to the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

These things really were the beginning of an amazing friends vacation with our hosted stay at The Grand at Moon Palace, Cancun.

Our first impressions of The Grand were spot on. The whole resort was beautiful and even better than we imagined it would be.

Let’s get into our review of The Grand at Moon Palace, Cancun.

Let’s start with the pools and waterpark. Of course, when you stay at The Grand , you also have access to the other resorts within Moon Palace, but I will be mostly focusing on The Grand. I’ve added a couple of spots that I love outside The Grand and I will note those. You may also enjoy reading about reviews of Moon Palace Nizuc .

Teen girl sitting on the edge of a Plunge Pool at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

The Grand has a water park with a lazy river and huge slides!

We went there every single day that we were there and it was one of our favorite spots. There are also rooms with direct swim-up pool access.

Our go-to pool this stay was the one right off the beach in The Grand. It checked off all the boxes for us with the pretty view and the swim-up bar.

This pool isn’t in The Grand section, but it was a favorite of ours both times we were there so don’t forget that when you stay at The Grand, you have access to it too!

I know when going to Mexico, you are thinking beach time right? I know we do.

The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun has a gorgeous beach, but do note it is not swimmable. The water is pretty strong here so going out in their boats is okay, but you wouldn’t want to actually swim in the water. For us, this didn’t matter at all because of all the pools and other water activities. We still did hang out at the beach a bit and loved the beverage service there!

There is fun for the whole family with things to do to stay busy, or just to relax the day away.

Maybe pool and beach time isn’t your thing? You will still find plenty to do. Here are some of the other things we did.

  • Bike riding. When Ash, Maddie, and I went to lunch one day, Pete and Emmy borrowed (included in your stay) bikes and rode them throughout the resorts. They stopped for a snack and a drink a few times too.
  • The Spa. This isn’t included but we always go to the spa on our trips. This is a great way to relax and I love seeing the different treatments offered in different places.
  • Wired and Play Room. Think of huge arcades with everything included so you don’t need any coins. Wired also has video games and computers with internet access. Play Room has bumper cars, a challenge course, and more games. The kids and teens all loved this area! Play Room is inside the water park, so don’t miss it!
  • Kid’s Club. Emmy loved the kids club the last time she was here. It was one of her favorite ones from all of our travels, but this time she never even made it over. When we were leaving she started to get upset when she realized she hadn’t gone yet. There was just way too much to do this time… but we know next time we will make it a priority for her to go again. It is included and a lot of fun.

Two girls sitting in the golf cart transportation at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

I don’t want to forget to mention that the resort seemed very accessible to us. My mother-in-law recently had a knee replacement and she is doing great, but I would love for them to visit here so I keep an eye open to how mobile-friendly it was for those in wheelchairs or those that need assistance getting around in general. From golf carts to take you wherever you need to go, to elevators and more. It would be great for a multi-generational vacation too. Our friends that vacationed with us often would meet us at different parts of the resorts and they loved the extra help getting there. We would walk and they would take a golf cart and it was perfect for both styles of vacationers.

Here is a look at the fun we had in the Play Room:

Two girls enjoying the Playroom at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

Family suites

Accommodations are VERY important to us. Even if we plan to spend just a little bit of time in our room, we want them to still be awesome suites. The Grand has a family suite option that has a king room that connects to a double queen room. This is perfect for us because it offers privacy and space for all of us, but we are still there together.  I know some families of 5 are totally okay sharing a room if it is available, but we are not that family. We have 4 girls and one boy so we need at least 2 bathrooms to be able to get ready and be out of the room in a timely manner. I’ve heard that it isn’t as hard with boys, but with makeup, showers, and all that fun stuff, sharing one bathroom just doesn’t work for us. At the same time, I don’t like being split up from the kids. The teens are totally mature enough and travel savvy enough to be apart from us, but it takes away from my enjoyment of the trip having to worry about them. This setup is just awesome and the rooms are truly wonderful.

Bedroom of the Family Suite at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

I am in love with these oversized balconies. Pete and I still had work to do while we were there and this is where we got it done. Also, each night we would leave our door hanger out for breakfast to be delivered and we would enjoy it here.

The two rooms were almost exactly alike except for the beds and a couple of little touches.

In the kid’s room, the alcohol (included) was locked off and their mini-fridge had kid-friendly soda, juices, milk, etc in them while ours had beer and such. They also had added kid toiletries that we didn’t and they had some fun water toys waiting for them when we checked in as a surprise.

The kids loved having soda right there waiting for them, and I’ve been asked a bunch of times if they went crazy having everything like that available and the answer is a total no. Same with having alcohol available for the adults. I’m sure it has happened before that an adult enjoyed the included beverages a bit too much, but this is not a spring break situation…quite the opposite really. I think knowing that you have good quality alcohol and unlimited drinks available makes everyone more relaxed and less likely to go overboard. This is even true with the food. It is all high quality so you don’t feel like you need to overeat or that they will run out.

Refreshments, restaurants, and quick bites:

Lobby bar at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

How gorgeous is the lobby bar? I loved seeing this as soon as we arrived. It set the tone for how beautifully appointed the resort was.

As far as food goes, this is definitely at the higher end of all-inclusive resorts.

Nothing was mass-produced quality, not even at the buffets. We really liked how luxurious the buffet in The Grand felt. It was large and had so many options. A little secret though is that our favorite buffet was actually in Nizuc for lunch and dinner, but for breakfast on the last day, we ate at the Beach Club, at least I think that is what it was called. This is in The Grand right by the pool and the ocean and also has a breakfast buffet that we wish we had been eating at the whole time. It was a little more intimate and closer to the ocean, both of which we really liked.

Outdoor seating area for a breakfast buffet at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

One other thing I wish we had done was to pick where we were going to eat, at least for dinner beforehand. There are so many restaurants and we didn’t make it to even 25% of them. I wish I had really looked at all the options and made a list of the ones we wanted to eat at and worked our way through them. I don’t regret any of our meals, but maybe it would have been even more fun to try even more of the restaurants. Also, we *might* have had dinner at a restaurant on the early side and then stopped into the buffet later in the night for a snack and dessert.

One thing we for sure did was to have coffee multiple times during the day and a treat from the coffee shops. There is one in each of the main lobbies and they are all very similar in what they serve. If you are a coffee person like me, you will be very happy to know that they serve good coffee. None of that watered-down stuff with no flavor that is sometimes served at all-inclusive resorts or cruises. For the teens, this was something they really appreciated too. They often stopped there for drinks and as a place to hang out.

Pastries from the buffet at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

Dietary concerns were not only taken seriously, but the staff was well versed in them.

For those of us that follow a vegan diet, we were thrilled to see actual culinary delights on the menu that were noted as being vegan. We didn’t have to wonder or eat the same spaghetti with tomato sauce and mushy vegetables. Nope, we had one of the best risottos of our lives, vegan pizza, a flavorful pasta dish, and more! I couldn’t believe everything they had available for us to enjoy!

Caprese salad from a restaurant at the Grand at Moon Palace Cancun

This really was a wonderful vacation and I’m so glad we were able to enjoy The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun with our friends, Emmy, and Ellie’s Family. The resort had everything we could imagine an awesome vacation would have and it was the perfect meeting spot for two families that were flying to meet from opposite sides of the country.

One last thing, even the restrooms are gorgeous!

Oyster Hotel Review

Huge, buzzing all-inclusive property with tons of kid-centric facilities.

the grand moon palace tour

After arriving to a security checkpoint, guests take the turn leading to The Grand at Moon Palace. The lobby sets the stage for the atmosphere here: elegant, luxe, and typically bustling. Hallways off either side of the lobby are filled with shops and dining outlets, and outdoors, sidewalks meander through nine pools, water elements, garden grounds, and a water park. The whopping 1,316 rooms are spread among low-rise buildings, though some may be a bit far from the main building. Fortunately, the hotel created the property in a way that guests never have to walk far to reach one of the pools, bars, and dining options. The design throughout is classically sophisticated, done in largely neutral tones, tons of sleek marble, striking light fixtures, and some velvet touches. Numerous restaurants and bars do showcase their own color palette and decorative touches, such as distressed shutters and yellow armchairs at the Italian eatery, and patterned lancet windows at the Lebanese restaurant.

Guests here have full access to the facilities at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, with golf cart shuttles available between the two properties. Also convenient, visitors can download the hotel's app, which allows them to order room service, make reservations, and more. Although an adults' only pool and restaurant are available, tons of kid-friendly features and entertainment mean this hotel attracts lots of families with children. Couples wanting a more romantic atmosphere should look into the adult-only and luxurious Excellence Playa Mujeres , though it's an hour from the airport. Families, meanwhile, that want to be closer to the action of the Hotel Zone may prefer the Panama Jack Resorts Cancun .

Beachfront setting near the Cancun airport

The Grand at Moon Palace is within the Moon Palace complex, located a quick 12-minute drive from Cancun International Airport. There are few resorts in the immediate surrounds, giving the property a more exclusive feel, and the long stretch of white-sand beach is beautiful. Two golf courses are just a short drive away, as is the Xoximilco theme park for kid- and adult-friendly fun. Cancun's Hotel Zone, home to popular nightlife spots such as Coco Bongo and Señor Frogs, is a roughly 35-minute drive away. Playa del Carmen and Tulum are 50 and 90 minute drives, respectively.

Swish, if generic-looking, rooms with whirlpools and balconies

the grand moon palace tour

All of the rooms at The Grand at Moon Palace are done in the same elegant, classic, and understated style. Beige marble floors, walls, and leather headboards combine with dark-wood furniture and minimal neutral-tone decorations for a look that's sophisticated but a bit generic and underwhelming for a luxury property. Also on the downside, none of the rooms have ocean views here, and some past guests have complained of noise issues. Nevertheless, amenities are excellent, consisting of comfy double or king-size beds, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, minibars, free liquor bottles (guests can choose their alcohol preference), and free Wi-Fi. Sunken levels house two-person whirlpools and dining tables and chairs. These areas lead out to the furnished terraces, which are swim-out on the ground floors.

Marble bathrooms have big showers, dual sinks, Chi bath and hair products (including a straightener), and separate water closets. Family units are double and king rooms that connect and offer Xbox systems and kiddy beach toys. Meanwhile, each Presidential Suite adds a middle living room unit with an eight-person dining table and a microwave.

All-Inclusive / Food

Nearly all food, top-shelf liquor, wi-fi, and activities.

the grand moon palace tour

The all-inclusive rate here covers the 10 restaurants, various snack spots, and bars. Top-shelf liquor is included. Most activities are also covered, though bowling and some alcohol like upgraded wine cost extra, as does dining at the gourmet Chef's Kitchen. Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service are free, as are unlimited phone calls to the Continental U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Guests are given a resort credit -- amount varies by length of stay -- that they can use on bowling, spa treatments, wedding services, scuba diving, chargeable wine, golf courses, and more. However, the tax must be paid.

Plethora of water-based facilities, spa treatments, and kids' activities

the grand moon palace tour

Guests here will not get bored thanks to the numerous features on-site for both kids and adults. The long, lovely beach is lined with loungers and umbrellas, plus a section houses cozy modern wicker furniture. Non-motorized water sports are available for free, but they're at the other property. Nine pools include kiddy and adults' only options, all of which have a swim-up bar except for the adult-only Unique Day Club pool. The Wellness Pool offers aqua aerobics, while the Fun & Sports Pool has family-friendly activities such as water volleyball. All are surrounded by chic cushioned loungers and umbrellas. A highlight is the well-sized water park, which has waterslides, a lazy river, a wave pool, and various fountain features.

Next to here is the hotel's highlight, at least for kids: the state-of-the-art Playroom. The multi-story club has a neon mini-golf course, arcade games, mirror maze, video games, snack bar, and a room for little ones. It's open until late and free to use. Babysitting is available for a charge, as is the bowling alley. In addition to a variety of daytime activities, nightly entertainment is provided at the large theater. For late-night adult fun, Unique Night Club has live DJ performances, a bar, and adjacent Cigar Room that's soundproof.

Another wow factor at The Grand is the large spa, which has separate areas for men and women, an extensive array of hydrotherapy pools, relaxation areas, sensation showers, a beauty salon and barber shop, saunas, and steam rooms. Its menu offers an array of massage, body, and beauty treatments. Across the way is the decently sized gym packed with modern equipment, a cycling studio, and aerobics and yoga studio. Bikes can be rented to take around the resort for free. The 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course is popular but requires a fee, though resort credits can be used to pay for a round.

Boutique and souvenir shops, and a jewelry store are on-site, as are spaces for meetings and events.

Variety of quality restaurants and several bars

There are officially 10 restaurants at The Grand at Moon Palace, not including the various snack bars spread across the property. All dining options are free, except for the gourmet Chef's Kitchen experience. Chocolate and tequila tastings in this space also require a fee. Aside from a large all-day buffet eatery, options consist of Lebanese, Japanese, steakhouse, Peruvian, and Italian restaurants. A wine and tapas bar is located by the buffet eatery, and a 24-hour Boulangerie is popular for gelato, coffee, paninis, and crepes. For Mexican fare, La Cantina serves street food in a casual setting, while Cielito Lindo offers upscale contemporary dishes. A traditional French restaurant is the only adults-only option. Food across the board receives positive reviews.

A dozen bars can be found throughout the property, serving top-shelf liquor, soda, beer, and wine. Room service is provided 24/7.

►  Tours    ►  St Petersburg and Moscow tours   ► Two capitals of Russia

the grand moon palace tour

Moscow and St Petersburg are considered the two capitals of Russia and both cities are strikingly different from each other but amazing in their own ways. Moscow is a major metropolis which is constantly changing and whose citizens are almost always in a rush. It is the political and financial centre of the country and home to the president whose residence is located inside the Moscow Kremlin. St Petersburg is known as the Northern Capital and the Venice of the North. It is also considered the cultural capital of Russia and has a much more European feel to it than Moscow.

St Petersburg is often regarded as more beautiful than Moscow with its countless bridges and canals, stunning palaces and architectural masterpieces, all of which especially shines during the period known as the white nights when the sun does not set.

On this tour to Moscow and St Petersburg you will visit the main treasures of both capitals, including the Red Square and St Basil Cathedral , the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow and St Petersburg’s Hermitage . The tour is perfect for those coming to Russia for the first time and can be combined with visits to the Golden Ring or a trip on the Trans-Siberian. The tour is based on you arriving in Russia in one city and then leaving from the other, as this will save time and is the best option for seeing both cities. If you arrive and depart from the same city then one extra night at a hotel and an extra train (or plane) trip will need to be added.

This itinerary is best for first visits to Russia for this particular duration of stay, but as this tour is completely private you can modify it according to your preferences and special requirements.
