Schedule, venues confirmed for England WTC25 tour of New Zealand

New Zealand Cricket have announced dates and locations for the England Test series, beginning in late November.

Hagley Oval in Christchurch, the Basin Reserve in Wellington, and Seddon Park in Hamilton will host New Zealand's three Tests, all part of the ongoing 2023-2025 World Test Championship.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink says the early announcement of England's Test tour comes after a surge in popularity in the long format, where seven of the eight days of the two Tests against Australia earlier this year were sold out.

“In the past, there’s often been a lot of talk in New Zealand about the popularity of Test cricket - without that translating into ticket sales or viewership numbers,” he said.

“The difference over the past summer, and in terms of the upcoming Tests against England, is that the interest is being converted to bums on seats and is driving record viewership numbers.

“We’re looking forward to that continuing over the upcoming summer, and to welcoming the England team and their fans to the Tests, and of course all the Kiwi-based supporters as well.”

New Zealand become WTC21 Champions – Day 6 Highlights

Winners of the first World Test Championship cycle in 2021, New Zealand sit in third on the 2023-2025 table, having collected 50% of possible points in their campaign thus far. The Black Caps claimed maximum points in their home series against South Africa and collected a win in their away two-match series with Bangladesh, before falling to a 2-0 series defeat to current defending World Test Champions Australia.

Both Australia and Sri Lanka women’s teams, alongside the Sri Lanka and Pakistan men’s teams, will also be touring in the 2024/2025 summer.

The remainder of New Zealand's home international schedule will be announced later in the year.

England men will take on Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia in next year's home schedule, while England women have matches lined up against Pakistan and New Zealand in 2024.

The ECB has revealed a packed home schedule of fixtures for England next year as focus turns from regaining the Ashes this summer, to defending the ICC T20 World Cup next summer.

England men will host Pakistan in four IT20s before flying out to defend their title in the United States and Caribbean, before facing the West Indies in Sri Lanka in two three-Test series, while England women return to high-capacity venues including Edgbaston, Headingley, The Ageas Bowl, The Kia Oval and Lord's following record ticket sales this summer.

The 2024 home international season will open with England women and men hosting Pakistan in concurrent white-ball series. Heather Knight's team will get their summer under way at Edgbaston as part of a three-match women's IT20 series against Pakistan women (May 11-19), before visiting The County Ground, Northampton and Headingley.

The two sides will then contest three one-day internationals (May 23-29). The series takes place at the same time that England men make their final preparations for their ICC men's T20 World Cup title defence. After England defeated Pakistan to win the 2022 ICC men's T20 World Cup title in Melbourne last November, fans will be treated to a four-match IT20 Series (May 22-30) between the two teams before Jos Buttler's team fly out to the Caribbean and United States.

Ireland, West Indies and South Africa make up the limited-overs opponents in the summer of 2025, and there is a white-ball trip to New Zealand before the Ashes series.

England vs India, Test series and tour: Full schedule and fixtures

Tom Hartley had a Test debut to forget as England’s Bazballers got Bazballed on day one of their series opener in Hyderabad.

Hartley’s first ball was hit for six by Yashasvi Jaiswal and he want on to concede 63 runs off nine overs at an economy rate of seven.

England won the toss and elected to bat first and despite making a quick-fire start, wickets soon tumbled and it was only thanks to a captain’s knock by Ben Stokes (70) that the tourists made it to 246 all out.

Unfortunately, India’s batsmen quickly proved that it was a sub-par total as Jaiswal took the attack to England’s bowlers, in particular rookie left-arm spinner Hartley, as they finished day one on 119-1, just 127 runs behind.

What is the full fixture list and schedule?

In the UK, TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) is showing the series after reaching an agreement just nine days before the first ball was bowled. The matches are also available to view on discovery+. Commentary is being taken from the world feed, which features Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan.

The live radio coverage is on Talksport, not BBC Test Match Special. Although the BBC bid for the rights, they were beaten by the commercial broadcaster.

Who is in the England squad?

England surprised supporters by announcing Shoaib Bashir , a 20-year-old Somerset off-spinner, as one of three uncapped players in their squad.

Bashir, who has played just six games of first-class cricket for Somerset, has been picked on potential , probably based on his high action and impressive performances on an England Lions training camp in the UAE.

However, Bashir was ruled out of the first Test after being unable to fly to India in time because of a visa delay .

In a 16-player touring party, the other two men uncapped selections were Lancashire left-arm spinner Hartley and Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson. Hartley and Atkinson have both played white-ball cricket for the national team.

Rehan Ahmed, the leg-spinner, is also in the team and there is a fourth spin option in Jack Leach, who is returning from a stress fracture in his back. Liam Dawson and Will Jacks, two other spinners with international experience, have been left out.

There are four seam-bowling options: James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood and Atkinson.

Harry Brook has been ruled out of the early part of the tour while attending to an undisclosed personal matter back in England.

England vs India, Test series and tour: Full schedule and results

E ngland’s tour of India ended in abject fashion as they were hammered by an innings and 64 runs inside three days, with not even James Anderson’s 700th Test wicket masking another batting capitulation.

Anderson became the third bowler and first non-spinner to reach the milestone on the third morning of the fifth Test, dismissing Kuldeep Yadav early on, but India’s lead of 259 at the halfway stage was ominous.

While Joe Root amassed 84, Ravichandran Ashwin ran amok on his 100th Test with five for 77 as England were all out for 195 in 48.1 overs in Dharamsala for a seventh loss in their last dozen Tests.

Ashwin was disruptor-in-chief, taking five wickets as England lurched to 113 for six then 141 for eight and even though Root battled away, his efforts were in vain.

When is the next total solar eclipse in the US after 2024 and what is its path? What to know

The highly anticipated 2024 total solar eclipse will cross North America on Monday , giving millions of sky-gazers the chance to see a rare cosmic event that won't be viewable again for 20 years.

The eclipse's  path of totality  will travel over a portion of northern Mexico before entering the U.S. It then it will cross 13 states  from Texas to Maine, where the spectacle is expected to attract huge crowds.

If you aren't lucky enough to be in the path of totality this time around, you will have another chance - you'll just have to wait until the 2040s.

Here's what we know about the next total solar eclipse to cross over the U.S.

Eclipse playlist: Fans return to Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' ahead of total solar eclipse

When is the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S.?

It will be 20 years before there's a chance to  witness a total solar eclipse  in the United States again.

According to NASA, after Monday's total solar  eclipse , the next one viewable from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

2044 total solar eclipse path of totality

Unfortunately, the 2044 total  solar eclipse  won't have the broad reach across the U.S. as the 2024 eclipse.

The path of totality during the 2044 eclipse will only touch three states, according to the Planetary Society, a nonprofit involved in research, public outreach, and political space advocacy.

The eclipse will begin in Greenland, sweep through Canada and end around sunset in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Pets and the eclipse: Will my pets be safe during the April 2024 solar eclipse? What experts say.

2045 solar eclipse

While the 2044 total eclipse will only touch three states, a 2045 eclipse will have a more robust path across the U.S.

Expected to occur on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2045, this solar eclipse will trace a path of totality over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

A partial solar eclipse will also be viewable in 35 other states, according to National Eclipse.com

What is a total solar eclipse?

Any celestial object like a moon or a planet that passes between two other bodies can create  an eclipse  by obscuring the view of objects like the sun.

In the event of a solar eclipse, the moon comes in between the Earth and the sun, blocking its light from reaching a small part of our planet. Partial eclipses, when some part of the sun remains visible, are the most common, making total eclipses a rare sight to behold.

Total eclipses can lead to a period of darkness lasting for several minutes, during which time nocturnal animals stir while confused birds and insects may fall silent, NASA says.

When a solar eclipse reaches totality, people are able to see the sun’s outer atmosphere called the corona, which is usually obscured by the sun's bright surface. This offers scientists an uncommon opportunity  to study the corona .

Totality also offers spectators a chance to gaze upon the spectacular sight with the naked eye, though  proper  safety  glasses  are still required for the rest of the time.

What states are on the 2024 eclipse path of totality?

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which is expected to occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT,  according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow will northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin in Texas at 1:27 p.m. CDT. The path will then cut diagonally across the country, traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

The eclipse's path is expected to end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT before visiting the maritime provinces of Canada, according to estimates.
